TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE 1500. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED FOR THIS FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CALIPERS WERE CORRODED. I WAS DRIVING HOME AROUND 9:30 PM. AS I WAS GOING DOWN A HILL I STEPPED ON MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES AT ALL, NO SAFTEY FEATURES KICKED IN, NO WARNING LIGHTS. JUST A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE. LUCKILY FOR ME IT WAS A SMALL HILL AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY GOING INTO LOW GEAR AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I TURNS OUT THAT THE BRAKELINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROL BOX WERE ROTTED AND FINALLY GAVE OUT. THIS IS A 2002 TRUCK WITH 62,000 MILES ON IT. I KNOW FROM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH OLDER CARS THAT IF A BRAKE LINE FAILS, THERE IS A VALVE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO CUT OFF THE OPEN LINE SO THERE IS SOME BRAKES LEFT. I REPEAT, NO SAFTEY FEATURES WORKED, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO VALVE KICKING IN,NOTHING. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH GM. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE WEB BROUGHT UP THOUSANDS OF HITS ON THIS PROBLEM. JUST 20 MINUTES EARLIER I WAS ON THE NYS THRUWAY DOING 65 MPH. IF I LOST BRAKES AT THAT SPEED AND WITH THE OTHER TRAFFIC, THERE MOST CERTAINLY WOOD HAVE BEEN A CRASH AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF LIFE.

ALL BRAKE HARD-LINES ON MY 2002 CHEVY AVALANCHE 1500 4WD ARE EXTREMELY CORRODED AND HAVE BEGUN TO FAIL. THIS WAS DISCOVERED AFTER HAVING ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES BLOW-OUT DURING AN EMERGENCY STOP, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AN EMPTY TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME HAD BRAKED SUDDENLY DUE TO A MISSED EXIT, REQUIRING THAT I APPLY FULL BRAKING INSTANTLY. I WOULD HAVE COLLIDED WITH THE TRUCK AFTER MY BRAKE LINES BLEW, EXCEPT THAT I WAS ABLE TO SWERVE INTO ANOTHER LANE TO AVOID THE VEHICLE. HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER VEHICLE NEXT TO ME, I WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO THE DECELERATING VEHICLE. ALL OF MY BRAKE TUBING IS CORRODED, AS WELL AS PORTIONS OF THE FRAME, BRAKE CALIPERS AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS AND DUST SHIELDS. THIS EXCESSIVE CORROSION APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT OF SUBSTANDARD COMPONENTS WITH INADEQUATE CORROSION PROTECTION. I AM CURRENTLY REPLACING ALL CORRODED BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS (QUOTED $3,100). *TR

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was firm, and vehicle kept accelerating unintendedly. Several warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a faulty ABS module. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the vehicle was not included in a recall because he was not located in a salt State. The failure mileage was unknown.

I went to stop my 2002 Chevy Avalanche 1500 and the pedal started to pulsate like my brake assist was gone as I nearly rear end a vehicle and had to swerve out of the way do to the brakes not wanting to stop the vehicle as there supposed to normally. The truck has a p0265 code which is a fault in the ECBM do to the solder joint on the relay in the board. I'm a mechanic for a living and i cant believe this recall still hasn't been addressed a long time ago! This needs to be looked into ASAP and its not just the 2002 avalanche. Stopping, from between 5 and 10 mph, after a small drive - like a few yards.. the anti-lock brake engaged, made a pulsing / ratcheting noise and the brake pedal vibrated -- but the truck did not stop. I could not press down on the pedal any harder, and the truck took SUBSTANTIAL distance to come to a stop. --Dry road. -- I also have an ABS light on the dash from time to time.

I LOST MY BRAKES TOTALLY NOT JUST HALF OF THEM PULLING A SMALL TRAILER WITH IRON GOING DOWN A LONG HILL IN MANKATO, MN. ON MADISON AVE. I REAR ENDED A PICK UP WHICH PULLED OVER AND I CONTINUED ROLLING DOWN THE HILL BUILDING SPEED SO I HAD TO DRIVE MY TRUCK INTO A WALL WITH MY DAUGHTER INSTEAD OF REACHING THE NEXT INTERSECTION. GM HAS NOW CHANGED THEIR BRAKE LINES IN TO STAINLESS STEAL SINCE 2003 BECAUSE THEY KNEW THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR BRAKE LINES. MY BRAKE LINES ARE ON TOP OF FRAME RUNNING BACK TO THE REAR AXLE WITH THE GAS TANK BLOCKING MOST OF THE LINES. THERE IS ONLY 1.5 INCHES BETWEEN THE FRAME AND BODY. ALONG SIDE IS THE WIRING HARNESS GOING BACK TO THE REAR, NO ROOM TO INSPECT OR SEE YOUR BRAKE LINES. THIS COULD OF BEEN SO WORSE BECAUSE OF ALL THE TRAFFIC AND OUR LIVES. DO SOMETHING PLS... THE HANDLES TO THE BED COVERS HAVE DETERIORATED COMPLETELY OFF. NOT ALL OF THEM AS OF THIS WRITING BUT SOON THEY ALL WILL FALL OFF AT THE CONNECTION AT THE SIDE OF THE BED. THE CORROSION IS HAPPENING RAPIDLY. I RARELY TAKE THEM OFF, SO IT IS NOT FROM WEAR AND TEAR. I DO NOT HAUL THINGS IN THE BED THAT WOULD BEND, LEAK, OR CRACK THEM. I LIVE IN NORTH EAST TEXAS APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR EAST OF DALLAS. THERE IS A WHITE CORROSION THAT IS EATING THE METAL. SINCE THIS IS A NON SALT AIR STATE AND A NON ROAD SALT MIXTURE STATE (MAYBE 1X A YEAR WHICH I DO NOT DRIVE IF ROAD CONDITIONS CALL FOR STREET TREATMENT) IT IS NOT THAT. I RARELY DRIVE THE TRUCK, FOR I DO NOT WORK, I TAKE IT TO THE STORE, ABOUT 4 MILES AWAY AND I TAKE IT TO DALLAS EVERY NOW AND THEN. THE SAFETY CONCERN IS MY HANDLE FAILING AND ONE OF MY BED COVERS COMES OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. THE COVERS ARE HEAVY AND FAIRLY LARGE. I DON'T THINK THEY WOULD FLY FAR BUT I WOULDN'T WANT TO RUN OVER ONE OF THEM. I HAVE THE COVERS OFF AT THIS POINT FOR OBVIOUS REASONS BUT THE TRUCK WAS NOT DESIGNED FOR THEM TO BE OFF. THE WIND WHIPS THE TRUCK UNEXPECTEDLY AND YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE LITTLE CONTROL AND I ASSOCIATE THIS WITH THE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT THAT IS GONE OFF THE TRUCK THAT WAS DESIGNED TO KEEP THE TRUCK WEIGHTED APPROPRIATELY FOR SAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT IS NOT THE BLOWING WIND BUT THE WIND CREATED AS THE TRUCK PICKS UP SPEED, THE MULTI AXLE TRUCKS ALSO CAUSE IT TO ACTUALLY MOVE UP AND OVER WHEN THEY PASS MY TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY. IT IS AN INSECURE FEELING AND IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO CONFIDENT DRIVING. WHEN THE WIND IS BLOWING IT IS HARD TO KEEP THE TRUCK ON THE ROAD ALONG WITH THE OTHER FACTORS IT FEELS LIKE IT WILL TAKE FLIGHT. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE WEB SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK. 3200 DOLLARS TO FIX A PART THAT SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST LASTED 100000 MILES.

I DID MAKE IT HOME TO CHICAGO, SMELLING GAS THE WHOLEWAY, BUT NOT SEEING A SIGNIFICANT LEAK (PROBABLY DUE TO THE CONSTANT DRIVING, I DID KEEP CHECKING) UNTIL I WAS ALMOST HOME. I MADE IT HOME, AND TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL SHOP. THE DIAGNOSED IT AS FUEL LINES, WHICH HAD RUSTED AND CORRODED. STEERING: I stopped in my daughter yard and was unloading a 16ft trailer of hay and everything was working normally. When I got back in cranked the engine I started pulling forward, I did not have any power steering at all. I first thought the steering wheel had locked but I really had to power down on the steering to get it to turn. No noise, no indication, no problems of any kind with the steering or anything wrong while driving just a few minutes before. The power steering just stopped working period. I told my daughter we were lucky this hadn't happened on the road while pulling the loaded trailer. This could have been very dangerous or deadly if it had gone out while we were pulling the loaded trailer while on the road. If we had been going around a curve or making a turn and it had happened like it did in the yard while parked with NO indication of a problem it would have been very, very bad especially again with NO indications of a problem with the steering and pulling a trailer loaded with hay. I shudder to think what could have happened if we had been going around a curve at 55mph on the highway and this had happened. Power steering fluid pump up to the full line on the check stick when I pulled it out of the power steering pump. I have had the Avalanche for 3 years and have never had to add fluid nor does it have leak anywhere. Again, NO steering problems whatsoever before this.

I HAVE A CHEVROLET 2002 AVALANCHE. THERE WAS A LOT OF CLICKING AND CLACKING IN MY STEERING. I HAD THE FRONT END CHECKED AND REALIGNED SEVERAL TIMES. FINALLY A CHEVY SERVICE MANAGER IDENTIFIED A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVROLET. THERE IS A LINKAGE IN THE STEERING THAT IS CATEGORIZED AS A SHAFT #19153614 THAT WAS NOT CORRECTLY DESIGNED WHEN MANUFACTURED. ACCORDING TO THE CHEVY SERVICE MANAGER CHEVY HAD TO REDESIGN THE SHAFT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE PART WAS NOT DESIGNED PROPERLY ORIGINALLY I REQUESTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TO COVER THE COST OF $201.95 COST. THEY HAD SOME FOREIGNER FROM THE PHILLIPINES CALL ME TO TELL ME THEY WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THIS MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP FAILURE. DEALER PLAYS IT OFF THAT THEY HAVE TO CHARGE FOR INSPECTION BY MECHANIC AND THEY WON'T REPLACE IT BECAUSE ITS PAST WARRANTY. (BILL HEARD CHEVROLET). DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 AVALANCHE SPECIAL EDITION. AT 37,000 MILES HE HEARD THE BRAKES RUBBING. HE NOTICED THE INSIDE OF THE REAR BRAKES WORE OUT, NOT ON THE OUTSIDE. THE CONTACT STATED ABOUT ONE YEAR AGO HE HAD THE REAR BRAKES PADS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WORE A GROOVE INSIDE THE REAR ROTORS. HE CALLED A DEALER, AND THE DEALER TOLD HIM TO BRING THE CAR IN SO THEY COULD LOOK AT IT. THE CONTACT DID NOT WANT TO TAKE THE CAR TO DEALER. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE PARKING BRAKE ON 2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE WAS BAD. THE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT .THE BRAKE WAS NONFUNCTIONAL. FOG LAMP CONDENSATION --- I DID NOT NOTICE THAT MY 2002 AVALANCHE WAS SUBJECT TO WATER BUILD UP IN THE FOG LAMPS UNTIL IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I DRILLED A 1/8" HOLE WITH A HIGH SPEED BIT IN THE LOWEST PART OF THE PLASTIC LENSE. NOW, ALTHOUGH CONDENSATION STILL ACCUMULATES ON THE LENSE IT WILL EVENTUALLY RUN DOWN THE LENSE AND OUT THE BOTTOM HOLE. I WAS ALWAYS AFRAID TO TURN THEM ON WITH THE BULBS BEING SUBMERGED IN WATER.

I TOOK MY 02 AVALANCHE IN FOR WARRANTY SERVICE WORK FOR SERVERAL ITEMS. ONE ITEM WAS NOT FIXED TO MY SATISFACTION. I REPORTED CONDENSATION IN MY DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS/FOG LIGHT HOUSING. NOT ONLY WAS THERE CONDENSATION, THERE WAS STANDING WATER. WHEN I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE I LOOKED AND THE LIGHTS SEEMED TO BE OK, BUT BY THE TIME I ARRIVED HOME 15 MINUTES LATER, THERE WAS CONDENSATION IN THEM AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THEY DIDN'T REPLACE THEM, THEY ONLY "CLEANED THEM OUT AND RESEALED THEM". UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED THAT THEY SEPARATED THE HOUSING FROM THE LENS AND THEN USED SILICONE SEALANT TO PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER. THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO STATED THERE WAS A BULLETIN FROM GM STATING THAT SOME CONDENSATION IS NORMAL AND THE FIX THEY PERFORMED WAS ALL THEY WERE ALLOWED TO DO. I CONTACTED GM AND RECEIVED THE SAME INFORMATION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN AGAIN FOR THE CONDENSATION, THEY HAVE NOW PERFORMED THE SAME FIX. I TOLD THEM AND THE GM REP ON THE PHONE THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, THAT NO AMOUNT OF CONDENSATION IN MY LIGHT HOUSING IS ACCEPTABLE. NOW I AM UNWILLING TO USE MY FOG LIGHTS DUE TO THE FACT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE LENS AND THE CONDENSATION AS WELL AS THE NOW SILICONE BEING SO CLOSE TO THE HEAT OF THE FOG LIGHTS. I RELEASED THE TAILGATE TO REMOVE AN EMPTY BOX FROM THE BED OF MY 2002 CHEVY AVALANCHE. I JUMPED UP IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK AND RETRIEVED THE BOX. WHEN I REACHED THE BACK OF THE TRUCK (TAILGATE), THE TAILGATE GAVE WAY LIKE A TRAP DOOR AND I WENT DOWN WITH IT. I HIT BOTH MY KNEE AND HEAD ON THE TAILGATE AS THE TAILGATE HIT THE GROUND. BOTH CABLES (2) BROKE ABOUT 2 INCHES BELOW THE CONNECTOR. I CUT MY KNEE AND HAD A KNOT ON THE SIDE OF MY HEAD. ASPRIN SEEMED HELP, BUT THERE IS STILL PAIN IN THE OUTSIDE KNEE AREA (LEFT). ‘’’’’’FRAME’’’’’’I was heading to work and and something snapped while driving. I then brought vehicle to fire stone in Kingsport tn. I was told it tie rod end had it replaced well the sound was still thier. Then I returned with vehicle pitman arm and bracket replaced nope banging noise was still there. I then called corporate up spoke Mike I was told to return the vehicle bake to fire stone on a weds all day long they were looking over the vehicle come to find out frame snapped where cross member is on drivers side of vehicle. While the passenger side was still solid. I am not the only one dealing with issue as of now I am finding out more vehicles 2002 to the the 2005 chevy avalanches 5.3 4x4’s have this problem. Why hasn’t there been a recall on this issue like Toyota has done. I have 276,000 miles on this truck would like to have it fixed.

I BROUGHT IT TO MY DEALER''S ATTENTION ON 01/23/03 AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AND THAT NEW PANELS WOULD ONLY WEAR OUT AGAIN DUE TO CONSTANT SEAT BELT USAGE AND THAT ONLY A RE-DESIGNED OR MODIFIED PART WOULD PERMANENTLY CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED DURING OR AFTER THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE STORE SUSTAINED $1,900 WORTH OF DAMAGE. MY BRAKE LINES ARE SO BADLY CORRODED AND RUSTED AS WELL AS MY FUEL LINE. TOTAL COST TO FIX EVERYTHING IS $1500, WHICH WITH THE VALUE OF THE TRUCK SEEMS ABSURD TO FIX, BUT WITH THE ECONOMY I CAN'T AFFORD TO TRADE IN AND HAVE CAR PAYMENTS. I FEEL THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING MULTIPLE TIMES AS IT IS COSTLY AND DANGEROUS, I WAS FORTUNATE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT BOTH TIMES. While driving I suddenly experienced a loss of power. Immediately the truck sputtered to a rolling stop. I was unable to use power steering or power brakes due to the loss of fuel. I later discovered that the fuel line from the tank to the fuel filter was not properly connected. Upon attempting to reconnect, it was noticed that it had broken. The male nipple which goes from the fuel tank, outward about 1 inch, had broken off and was inside of the quick release connection for said fuel line.

I ENDED UP IN THE DITCH TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, AND HAVE CONTINUED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH NO RESISTANCE ON THE BRAKES. The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS and oil warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the speedometer, the 4-wheel drive function, parking brake, and headlights failed to operate as needed. The instrument panel light failed to illuminate, the gear shifter did not display the selected gear, the sub-frame was corroded, and the wheel hub bearing assembly was fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

THE AVALANCHE IS OUR TOW VEHICLE (ONLY) WHICH IS WHY IT HAS SO FEW MILES FOR A 2002 MODEL YEAR VEHICLE. NORMALLY IT IS TOWING A 9000 POUND 28 FOOT TOY HAULER, BUT JUST BY PURE LUCK IT WAS TOWING A SINGLE AXLE FLAT BED TRAILER WITH THE CAB FOR A 1935 CHEVROLET PICKUP ON IT BACK FROM THE BODY SHOP. I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND TRIED TO STOP AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. TRIED TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKES AND THE CABLE SNAPPED. STOPPED BY DRIVING UP A HILL INTO THE GRASS. TOOK THE AVALANCHE TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINES ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THEY WERE NO LONGER AVAILABLE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. IN THE COURSE OF GETTING THE BRAKE LINES OUT THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TOTAL BILL FOR REPAIR WAS $2900.00, PLUS THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF SERVICE FOR 6 WEEKS. GRANTED THE VEHICLE IS 12 YEARS OLD, BUT I HAVE A 1963 STUDEBAKER THAT STILL HAS SOLID BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. IT IS ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT THE AVALANCHE WASN'T TOWING A 9000 POUND 28 FOOT LONG TRAILER AT 70 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. RECENTLY MY 2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE HAS BEGUN TO SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER. ON AUGUST 3, 2011 WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, HE PRESSED THE BRAKES WHICH WENT TO THE FLOOR AND REAR ENDED VEHICLE IN FRONT THAT WAS MAKING A TURN. THE FRONT BUMPER IS NOW DAMAGED ( T-BONED) AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I'M NOT VERY PLEASED THAT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICES ABOUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MECHANIC SAYS IT IS THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ON THE 8.1 L 8100 SERIES MOTOR, THE SAME MOTOR THAT IS IN THE 2001 MODEL SILVERADO, SIERRA, AND SUBURBANS THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL. LOCATION IS IN THE BACK OF THE MOTOR MAKING IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE OUT WITHOUT MAJOR ENGINE REPAIR WORK, REMOVING INTAKE MANIFOLD AND OTHER COMPLEX THINGS, TO REPAIR AN APPARENT $60 PART. DANGEROUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION THAT THIS IS HAPPENING AND HAPPENED ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN CARED FOR COMPLETELY. ALSO, DANGEROUS DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TASK OF STEERING IT TO A SAFE PLACE WITH NO POWER BRAKES OR STEERING, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MECHANIC SAYS PART IT ALMOST 100% PLASTIC AND CAN SUCCUMB TO HIGH AND LOW VARIATIONS IN TEMPERATURE AND BREAK DOWN IN COMPOSITION. WHICH, IT HAS DONE IN THIS TRUCK, AGAIN WITHOUT NO WARNING, AND NO APPARENT COST EFFECTIVE REPAIR. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE 2002 MODEL YEAR AS WELL AS THE SAME 8.1 L MOTOR WAS INSTALLED IN THE CHEVROLET AVALANCHE 2500 TRUCK (BY THE WAY, THE VEHICLE WAS BUILT IN 2001), WHICH, OTHER THAT THE DIFFERENT BODY STYLE HAS THE SAME CHASSIS AND MOTOR AS THE SUBURBAN. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE ROTORS HOWEVER; DUE TO THE CORROSION THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO SO, THEREFORE THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED. IN A SEPARATE INCIDENT, WHILE USING THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HEATER FAN, SMOKE CAME FROM THE VENTS. THE FAN WAS TURNED OFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. IN THE PAST YEAR, WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE PADS OF VEHICLE AND HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CALIPER AS IT EXPLODED. THE BRAKE PADS WERE CHANGED FOR THE 3RD TIME ON 05/23/05. LUCKILY, THE CALIPER HAS NOT EXPLODED AGAIN. THE REMAINING BRAKE PADS ON THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE ARE FINE.

VEHICLE HAS PROBLEM WITH FUEL SYSTEM. EITHER THE FUEL GAUGE GOES OUT INDICATING THAT YOU HAVE MORE GAS THAN YOU REALLY DO. THE FUEL PUMP GOES OUT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. FOR EXAMPLE, I WAS DRIVING UP A WINDING HILL WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY TRUCK STOPPED WITH NO WARNING ON A BLIND CURVE. THE FIRST TIME WAS FEBRUARY 2003. THE SECOND TIME WAS APRIL 2003. THE THIRD TIME WAS JUNE 2003 AND THE FOURTH TIME WAS JANUARY 21, 2005. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLES FUEL SYSTEM. WE WERE GIVEN AN EXPLANATION THAT THE MOTOR WAS NEW, THE RINGS HAVEN'T SEATED YET AND 3 DIFFERENT TYPES OF OIL HAVE BEEN PLACED IN OUR VEHICLE -- ONE OF SUCH (STRAIGHT 30W) IS SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL NOT TO ADD. NOW OUR VEHICLE IS STILL BURNING OIL AND HAS BEGUN TO BLOW BLUE SMOKE OUT THE TAIL PIPE. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER, THE MANUFACTURER, THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, THE STATES ATTORNEY'S OFFICE. CURRENTLY THE MANUFACTURER HAS US UNDERTAKING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I HAVE NOT GIVEN PERMISSION TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO START REPAIRS. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE REAR AXLE OR REAR END THAT WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR AND MUST BE REPLACED. I WAS QUOTED A REPAIR COST OF $2,400 FOR A USED PART AND $3,000 FOR A NEW PART. THIS TRUCK HAS AROUND 42,000 MILES AND WAS PURCHASED JUNE 1, 2003. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS RANGING FROM REPLACEMENT OF CD'S TO A DOOR WINDOW MOTOR PROBLEM. I INQUIRED/COMPLAINED ABOUT A NOISE IN THE REAR END AT AROUND 25,000 MILES PRIOR TO THE BREAKDOWN. HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE TAILGATE WOULD FALL OPEN WHEN LOCKED OCCASIONALLY, BUT THIS WAS ADJUSTED AFTER TAKING IT BACK FOR REPAIR. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED ONE HUB ASSEMBLY ON THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK AT A COST OF $250.00. THERE IS AN OIL USAGE PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES AN ADDITIONAL QUART TO BE ADDED BETWEEN CHANGES. I PERSONALLY THINK THAT THIS TRUCK IS A LEMON AND NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED TO DISCERN IF IT HAS HAD SOME PREVIOUS MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. ALTHOUGH IT WAS PURCHASED NEW THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT COULD HAVE HAD SOME MALFUNCTIONS BEFORE IT WAS DELIVERED. I MISPLACED MY RECEIPTS, AND I'M NOT SURE THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WILL GIVE ME ANOTHER COPY. THE DEALER SPENT THE DAY CHECKING OVER THE COMPUTER AND STARTING SYSTEM AND COULD FIND NO FAULT. THE DEALER CONTACTED CHEVROLET TECH ASSIST DAVE JOHNSON AND HE TOLD THE DEALER TO DO NOTHING UNTIL IT FAILS. THE DEALER WAS BEING TOLD TO GIVE ME BACK THE TRUCK UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I FELT THAT THE TRUCK WAS IN AN UNSAFE DRIVABLE CONDITION FOR ANY TRIPS ON THE HIGHWAY. I REFUSED TO TAKE THE TRUCK BACK AND TOLD THE DEALER TO KEEP THE TRUCK UNTIL THEY COULD FIND THE TROUBLE. 4 DAYS LATER THEY FOUND A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH FOUND REAR GLASS FRAME CRACKED AT TOP OF WINDOW. WHEN TRUCK WAS PURCHASED A BUMP WAS NOTICED AT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR BUMPER STEP ABOUT 2 FEET FROM CENTER OF TRUCK. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED. THEY SAID TO COME BACK TO REPAIR IT. WHEN WE WENT BACK THE SERVICE DEPT SAID THAT IT WAS A FLAW IN THE BUMPER AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE.
