BACKGROUND: PURCHASED USED BLAZER APPROX 2 YEARS AGO. "ANTI-LOCK BRAKES" DASH LIGHT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON. I AM GOOD DIY AND VERY EXPERIENCED MECHANIC WITH APPROPRIATE TOOLS. I HAVE TRIED OFF AND ON SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE. I EVEN HAVE REPLACED ALL BRAKES AND MASTER CYLINDER. PROBLEM: I CAME UPON SAFECAR.GOV LAST NIGHT AND FOUND SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES ON MY TYPE OF VEHICLE, TO INCLUDE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. I CALLED THE CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER FOR RECALLS AND EXPLAINED THE ABOVE PARAGRAPH. AFTER I STATED I FOUND THE RECALLS ON SAFECAR.GOV AND WANTED TO CHECK IF MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE HAD ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS, I WAS PROMPTLY TOLD THAT SAFECAR.GOV IS NOT AN AUTHORIZED OR APPROVED CHEVY WEBSITE. IT WAS INFERRED TO ME BY THE OPERATOR BY HER TONE (THOUGH VERY POLITE) AND LANGUAGE THAT SAFECAR.GOV IS SOME ROGUE WEBSITE THAT SHOULD BE PAID NO MIND. THIS HAD ME CONCERNED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY SAFECAR.GOV IS A NHTSA WEBSITE AND I AM SURE THE RECALLS LISTED ARE ACCURATE. THE OPERATOR THEN LOOKED UP MY VIN AND STATED THERE WERE NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THIS TRUCK ME AS ODD BECAUSE THE RECALLS ON BRAKES I FOUND DESCRIBED HOW MY VEHICLE REACTS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I AM NOT TRYING TO GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. IF THERE WERE/ARE REALLY NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE.THAN SO BE IT, NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, WITH THE WAY SAFECAR.GOV WAS BRUSHED ASIDE BY THE OPERATOR, IT MAKES ME WONDER IF IN FACT THERE WERE RECALLS AND CHEVY IS JUST TRYING TO SAVE FROM REPAIRING OLDER MODEL VEHICLES THAT WERE NOT BROUGHT IN BY PREVIOUS OWNERS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET BLAZER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN DID NOT QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 99V193000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI-LOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,800. UPDATED 12/16/11 *BF THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHERE THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS FLUSHED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET BLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS LEAKING FLUIDS. THE CONTACT HAD THE FRONT ROTOR AND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS REPLACED HOWEVER THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD NOT OPERATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 144,300.

I HAVE HAD EXTREME BRAKING PROBLEMS THAT ARE STILL NOT FIXED. UNDER NORMAL CITY DRIVING CONDITIONS, BRAKES ARE VERY SLOW TO STOP REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH PRESSURE I PUT ON THEM AND OCCASIONALLY LOCK UP. I MUST RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUMP IT TO CATCH SO THE CAR WILL COME TO A STOP. 2 MONTHS AGO, A WOMAN STOPPED AT THE LAST MINUTE IN FRONT OF ME. I HIT MY BRAKES WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM TO STOP (2-3 CAR LENGTHS). THEY LOCKED UP AND MADE THEIR NORMAL GRINDING NOISE. I HIT HER CAR CAUSING DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES. LAST MONTH, WHILE TRYING TO SLOW DOWN TO PAY AT A TOLL BOOTH, I HAD TO LITERALLY STAND ON MY BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE TRUCK. THE TOLL BOOTH ATTENDANT JUMPED OUT OF THE BOOTH IN FEAR THAT I WAS GOING TO CRASH. THE SAME THING HAPPENS COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY AT 45 MILES PER HOUR. I CAN'T GET ANOTHER VEHICLE, BUT THIS ONE IS GOING TO KILL MY CHILDREN AND I. I HAVE REPLACED THE BOOSTER, PADS TWICE, ROTORS, AND THE THING ATTACHED TO THE BOOSTER. HAVE I MISSED A RECALL? I ALSO HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL BLAZERS IN MY AREA WITH NO MIRROR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND HAVE EVEN SEEN BOTH MIRRORS GONE. IT WAS REPLACED FREE BECAUSE THERE WAS A BULLETIN, I REALLY WONDER IF IT WAS REPLACED ON 10/01 BECAUSE ALMOST 1 YEAR LATER 9/02 I STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN AND IT COST ME $272 TO HAVE IT FIXED AND ONCE AGAIN AS OF 10/11/05 COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC REVEALS THAT THE EGR IS STICKING AGAIN AND IT'S GOING TO COST $375,COULD I HAVE POSSIBLE GOTTEN A DEFECTIVE EGR ON 10/01. ALSO, I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH MY BLAZER SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED IT . WHEN DRIVING ON UNEVEN SURFACE IT SOUNDS AS IF SOMETHING IS CRACKING AND TRYING TO FALL TO PIECES IN THE FRONT AND THE STEERING IS LOOSE AND PULLS TO ONE SIDE, EVEN AFTER A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND ROTATION AND BALANCE, THE PROBLEM IS NOT CORRECTED. ONE OF THE OIL COOLER HOSES CAME OFF THE CRIMP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ALL OIL AND PRESSURE. VEHICLE SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A CURVE, CAUSING OWNER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE (BUT LUCKILY REGAIN IT). ENGINE IS A COMPLETE LOSS AND WILL BE COSTING US THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE. THIS REALLY SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURER ISSUE, AS THE CRIMP METHOD USED FOR THIS HIGH PRESSURE (AND HIGHLY IMPORTANT) HOSE IS OF A TYPE THAT DOES NOT SEEM RELIABLE. THE SHOP THAT IS HOLDING OUR CAR, PENDING OUR DECISION ON WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, HAS INDICATED THEY HAVE HAD ONE OR TWO OTHER BLAZERS IN THEIR SHOP IN THE LAST YEAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING - AND THAT THEY NOTED AT THE TIME THAT THE CRIMP METHOD, WITHOUT BARBS TO GIVE EXTRA GRAB TO THE HOSE - SEEMS TO BE THE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE CHEVROLET TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT - IF THE HOSE HAD BEEN ATTACHED IN A RELIABLE METHOD, THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET BLAZER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25-35 MPH, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A RELATIVE, WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED TO REMOVE THE FUEL PUMP FROM THE VEHICLE AND TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY INOPERABLE UNTIL THE COMPONENT IS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 142,303.

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTION VALVE FAILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH THE NEW PARTS. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED AN INVOICE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW IN 95, WITHIN THE FIRST TWO YEARS THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ON A CROSS COUNTRY TRIP IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE OVER A WEEKEND NO LESS. I HAD TO WAIT TILL MONDAY FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO OPEN. I WAS TOLD THAT THE VACUUM SEAL FOR THE REVERSE CASING WAS THROWN INTO THE OTHER GEARS LEAVING ME ONLY WITH 1ST & I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TUNNEL UNDER THE BAY WHEN IT WENT OUT, NOT A GOOD PLACE TO BE. I HAVE SINCE REBUILT THE TRANMISSION AGAIN. YES 2 TRANSMISSONS. I HAVE HAD 2 EGR VALVES GO OUT A FEW HUNDRED $ EACH TIME. THE TRANSMISSON MOUNTS AND MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE BUSTED (MAYBE DUE TO A CAR WRECK BUT NOT SURE). I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE COMBO SWITCH (FOR HAZARDS, GEAR SHIFT, BLINKERS AND WIPERS) TWICE AND NOW HAVE TO DUE IT FOR A THIRD TIME. THE PART ALONE IS $250-$300. THE FIRST TWO TIMES I HAD TO REPLACE IT WAS FOR THE HAZARD LIGHT BUTTON BRAKING. THE 3RD TIME THE BUTTON BROKE AGAIN (JUST BY TURNING ON THE HAZARDS) AND I HAVE BEEN GETTING BY WITHOUT REPLACING IT BY TAPING IT DOWN (OTHERWISE THE HAZARDS ARE ON 24/7) BUT KNOW I HAVE TO REPLACE IT BECAUSE THERE WAS A SHORT IN IT THAT MAKE MY BRAKE LIGHTS STOP WORKING WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I ALSO CAN'T COUNT HOW MANY TIMES THE ABS HAVE LOCKED ON ME. IT SEEMS THAT ANY TIME I TURN THE WHEEL OR HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD WHILE BRAKING THE ABS LOCKS. I HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO HAVE AVOIDED COLLISIONS ON THESE CASES BUT NOT BY MUCH. WHILE LOOKING ON THIS SITE I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE ABS BRAKES AND A FEW OTHER THINGS, YET I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED BY GMC FOR ANY OF THE RECALLS LISTED HERE. THE ONLY THING I EVER RECEIVED WAS A RECALL ON THE BACK SEAT BELT WHICH I DON'T EVEN SEE LISTED HERE. I HAVE FOUND THAT WHEN EVER SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH MY CAR THAT IT IS NEVER A SIMPLE THING TO FIX, IT IS ALWAYS A MAJOR THING. I THINK THAT GMC REALLY NEEDS TO TAKE MORE TIME IN EFFORT TO TEST THERE VEHICLES. THERE'S A LOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ALONE.

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHEN WE WERE COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT ---- AS WE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO APPROXIMATELY 2500 RPM. THIS MADE STOPPING THE VEHICLE A LOT MORE DIFFICULT & COULD FEEL THE ANTI-LOCK BREAKS WORKING TO STOP THE CAR. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NEVER A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US IN EACH OF THE INSTANCES ---- BUT WE'RE NOT SURE IF THIS COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A FUTURE ACCIDENT. MY CONFIDENCE WITH THE DEALERSHIPS IS NOT VERY HIGH IN DIAGNOSING THIS PROBLEM IF THEY CAN'T RE-CREATE IT OR IF IT DIDN'T SENT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE. THEY WOULD JUST CHARGE ME FOR THEIR DIAGNOSTIC EFFORTS. NOTE: I ALSO RECENTLY HAS HIGH REVVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE WITHIN THE LAST FEW MONTHS, BUT THEY WERE AT START-UP & IT SENT A TROUBLE CODE. AFTER THREE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH A IAC VALVE AND PCM REPLACEMENT BILL --- THEY ALLEVIATED THE PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING ELSE & MUCH MORE DANGEROUS. *NLM

PROBLEM CAME BACK THE NEXT DAY AFTER I PICKED IT UP.WENT BACK HAD ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK.THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING COUPLE DAYS LATER PROBLEM CROPPED UP AGAIN DECIDED TO MAKE A APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER WITH RESERVATION BECAUSE I'VE TAKEN IT THERE FOR VARIOS DIFFERENT PROBLEMS, BUT BEFORE I MADE APPOINTMENT HAD ACCIDENT. GOING DOWN A CITY STREET WITH A SLIGHT HILL APPROX THIRTY DEGREE TILT ENGINE STALLED,WHEN THIS HAPPENED BRAKES HAD VERY LITTLE OR NO RESPONSE, STEERING BECAME STIFF . PROBLEM IS WITH BRAKING SYSTEM. INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE WHICH HAS TURNED IN TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. GM IS NOT COOPERATING STATING THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, ACCEPT THAT THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY FAILED TO HAVE A SENSOR ON THE VEHICLE WHEN DUPLICATED AND TOLD US THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. WE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT USE OF THE VEHICLE FOR TWO MONTHS SINCE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WE'VE BEEN ADVISED TO WAIT FOR A POTENTIAL RECALL BUT HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD WHEN THAT MIGHT BE. IN THE MEAN TIME GM IS BEING HIGHLY UNCOOPERATIVE AND FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY PENDING RECALL. WHEN TAKING A GENTLE AND OPEN CURVE, I LOST CONTROL OF THE WHEEL, AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS FLOATING. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPIN LIKE A TOP, CLOCKWISE, AND WENT OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. IT TURNED OVER ON ITS RIGHT SIDE AND SLID FOR 10 METERS IN THIS POSITION. I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY WIFE, AN EMPLOYEE, AND MY THREE CHILDREN (8 YEARS, 4 YEARS, AND 9 MONTHS). FORTUNATELY, WE ONLY SUFFERED BRUISES AND NECK PAINS. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN AWARE THAT THE BLAZER IS AN EXTREMELY UNSTABLE VEHICLE; I'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE BRAKE PEDAL INEXPLICABLY GOING TO THE FLOOR; AND THAT THE ALTERNATOR OF THESE VEHICLES GOES OUT BEFORE 40,000 KILOMETERS. MY THEORY OF THE ACCIDENT: A DANGEROUS AND UNSTABLE VEHICLE ENCOUNTERS ALL OF THE NECESSARY ELEMENTS: WATER ON THE PAVEMENT, AND SMALL CURVE, AND A SPEED THAT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT TOLERATE, PRECISELY BECAUSE OF THE VEHICLE'S INSTABILITY.

EGR VALVE REPLACED. COST OVER $400. CHEVY ONLY RECALLED 96 OR NEWER AND THERE HAS BEEN OVER 60 COMPLAINTS LOGGED ABOUT THIS. WHEN IS THERE GOING TO BE A RECALL ON THE EGR VALVE. I NOW NEED TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. I HAVE ALSO COMPLAINED TO CHEVY REGARDING MY BRAKES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY BRAKES EVERY 6 MONTHS SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR. INITIALLY REPLACED EGR VALVE IN 1998, HAVE REPLACED IT 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES (BY CHEVY DEALER) WITHIN TWO YEARS. BUILD-UP OF CARBON IN THE ENGINE CAUSING STALLING, SHAKING AND FAILURE OF ENGINE IN TRAFFIC. BRAKES TEND TO STICK AS WELL. ERRONEOUSLY CHARGED FOR TWO FUEL INJECTORS THAT WERE NOT NEEDED DUE TO MISDIAGNOSIS OF PROBLEM. CAR HAS SAT FOR LAST 3 WEEKS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CONTACT CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AT HQ, WAS GIVEN PROMISES OF REFUNDS, CALL BACKS AND HAVE NOT HEARD FROM ANYONE. LOOKED AT THIS SITE AND SAW OTHER OWNERS WITH SAME PROBLEM, POSSIBLE RECALL BUT WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED BY THE DEALER OR CHEVROLET. GURGLING NOISE DETECTED BEHIND CENTER CONSOLE OF VEHICLE AT APPROX 60K MILES. DEALER DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. NOW AT 84K MILES, DEALER TELLING ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE HEATER CORE, RADIATOR, AND ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS DUE TO DEFECTIVE COOLANT (DEX-COOL). THIS COOLANT WAS ORIGINALLY USED BY CHEVROLET IN 95 AND 96 BLAZERS AND IS NOW KNOWN TO BREAK DOWN AND RESULT IN "MUD-LIKE" SUBSTANCE. RISK OF OVER-HEATING IS PRIMARY CONCERN. I HAVE FOUND AT LEAST 10 OTHER INDIVIDUALS ON THE INTERNET WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED COMPLAINT. MY MAIN ISSUE - CHEVY DID NOT DETECT THE PROBLEM EARLY ENOUGH EVEN THOUGH GIVEN OPPORTUNITY AND NOW I AM FACED WITH A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD AND $1200 REPAIR. ALSO, THEIR COOLANT IS KNOW TO BE DEFECTIVE AS PER MY CONVERSATION WITH 2 OF THEIR REPRESENTATIVES. AS A CONSUMER, I DO NOT FEEL AS IF I SHOULD PAY FOR CHEVY'S MISTAKES. I HAVE BEEN PLAGUED WITH CONSTANT BRAKE PROBLEMS ON MY '95 BLAZER. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE I PURCHASED IT OVER 10 TIMES FOR THE BRAKES ALONE. I RECENTLY HEARD ABOUT THE BRAKE RECALL WARNING ISSUED BY YOU (NHTSA) AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED ED MORSE CHEVROLET AND SPOKE WITH A SERVICE MANAGER. HE ADVISED ME YOUR REPORT WAS FALSE AND YOU ARE RE-ISSUING A STATEMENT TO THE CONTRARY. HE TOLD ME THE WARNING HAD "NOTHING TO DO WITH MY PARTICULAR BLAZER" AND THAT I WOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL OR WARNING PRESENTLY. MY BRAKES HAVE BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR ME, I AM AFRAID OF BRAKING SYSTEM, BUT HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I HAD MY ATTORNEY WRITE A LETTER TO ED MORSE, TO NO AVAIL. ABS FAILURE. ALL THREE ABS ISOLATION VALVES CLOSED EITHER AT START OF BREAKING OR PRIOR TO BRAKING CYCLE, RESULTING IN NO POSSIBLE DEPRESSION OF THE BRAKE PETAL AND ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKING WHAT SO EVER, LITERALLY NONE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES AT WHATEVER SPEED THE VEHICLE WAS AT BEFORE INITIATION OF BRAKING. THIS NO BRAKE CONDITION HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY AS SPEEDS FROM 15MPH TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. UPON RELEASING BREAK PRESSURE (TAKING ONE'S FOOT OF THE PETAL) AND REAPPLYING THE BREAKS THE LEFT FRONT ABS ISOLATION VALVE WOULD DE-ENERGIZE AND GIVE THE DRIVER THE LEFT FRONT BREAK ONLY. THIS FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT OVER THE LAST YEAR AND NOT WITNESSED BY ME UNTIL 1/13/2018. THE ABS FUSE WAS REMOVED AND THE BRAKES REMAIN WITHOUT ABS FUNCTION. THIS IS A MAJOR FAILURE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A DEADLY ACCIDENT AND MOST PROBABLY HAS. BUT, SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT AND DEAD PEOPLE CAN'T TESTIFY YOU PROBABLY DO NOT HAVE MUCH OF A DATA BASE. ALSO, AS AN ENGINEER MYSELF, THIS IS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THAT SHOULD PRECIPITATE THE COMPLETE DEACTIVATION OF AUTOMATED FUNCTIONS OF ALL VEHICLES WORLDWIDE UNTIL SUCH TIME AS ALL AUTOMATED FUNCTIONS CAN BE OVERRIDDEN BY MANUAL INPUTS WITHOUT FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH MANUAL INPUTS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET BLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE VEHICLE BEGAN SLIDING. NONE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE SPEED CONTROL MODULE TURNED ON BY ITSELF, AND THE THROTTLE OPENED WIDE. PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE DID NOT RELEASE THE SPEED CONTROL. I WAS FORCED TO THROW THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL (WHICH RED-LINED THE MOTOR AT ABOUT 4,500 RPM) AND SHUT IT OFF. ONLY ON THE THIRD RESTART OF THE MOTOR DID THE MODULE RELEASE. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 50 MPH, AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO GO UP A SMALL HILL. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURED. THE OTHER PROBLEM CONCERNS THE EGR VALVE. IN LATE 1999, I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS RUNNING ROUGH. THEY ANALYZED IT AS A STUCK EGR VALVE, AND CLEANED IT. TWO MONTHS LATER, I GET A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET (NOT A RECALL NOTICE) STATING THAT MY CAR MAY HAVE AN EGR PROBLEM. I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR BACK A FEW MONTHS LATER, AND ASKED FOR A NEW VALVE TO BE INSTALLED. THEY REFUSED, AS THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT BE REIMBURSED BY GM ANYMORE. SINCE THAT TIME, THE SAME PROBLEM HAS MANIFESTED ITSELF 4 TIMES, AND EACH TIME, THE DEALER MAINTAINS IT ISN'T THE EGR VALVE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS PURE DECEPTION ON THE PART OF THE DEALER, AND THE NTSA SHOULD FORCE GM TO REPLACE THE EGR VALVES ASAP. THE CAR WANTS TO DIE IN TRAFFIC WHEN THIS PROBLEM APPEARS, WHICH IS SPORADIC AND UNPREDICATABLE.

CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE EGR VALVE FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKES TO FAIL. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK THE MIXING WITH THE FUEL WAS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM. (WHEN THERE WAS CARBON BUILD UP IN THE EGR VALVE, IT WOULD LEAVE IT OPEN AND CAUSED NO VACUUM HARD PEDAL AND BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN IT RAINED OR WAS COLD THE TRUCK RAN ROUGH. THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD RUN ROUGH MORE THAN ONCE, NOISE WAS PRESENT AND THERE WAS A SMELL OF BURNT WIRES AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED, THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED SOFT ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION AND THE MASTER CYLINDER AND OTHER BRAKE COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED TO TRY AND SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE CD PLAYER HAD NOT WORKED SINCE THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS CHANGED, THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS HAD BECOME INOPERATIVE, A NOISE WOULD OCCUR WHEN TURNING BUT WAS NOT DUPLICATED, AND THE MUFFLER TAIL PIPE HAD FALLEN OFF AND RUSTED DUE TO CARBON BUILD-UP. THE EGR VALVE WAS CLEANED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IN ORDER TO PERFORM A PROPER JOB, THE EXCESSIVE CARBON BUILD UP IN THE UPPER AND LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD WHICH EFFECTED THE EGR PENDEL, AND THE 02 SENSOR COULD CAUSE A PROBLEM WITH THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, CATALYTIC CONVERTER, FUEL PUMP, THE BRAKES, ETC. THE BRAKES SQUEAKED, THERE WERE NO DASH LIGHTS, NO AIR CONDITIONING, AND NO 4-WHEEL DRIVE. WE HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE FROM APPROXIMATELY 4000 AND GOING FORWARD. THE FIRST INDICATION OF PROBLEMS WITH ELECTRICAL WAS WHEN THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS WERE USED THE FIRST TIME AND IT BLEW THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AT APPROXIMATELY 4000 MILES WE HAD OWNED THE BLAZER LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AT THIS TIME. WE HAVE HAD SERVICE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT INDICATOR PROBLEMS REPEATEDLY AND WAS TOLD EVERY TIME BUT 1 THAT IT WAS "NOTHING" AND LATER WE HAVE PROBLEMS THAT ARE CONVENIENTLY NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY ANY MORE. THE SOFT PLUGS BLEW IN THE ENGINE IN 9-1999 AND WE WERE TOLD BY THE GARAGE THAT REPAIRED THIS THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE ... THE ANTIFREEZE USED DETERIORATES THE PLUGS AND THEY EVENTUALLY LEAK AND THE ENGINE OVERHEATS. THE GM DEALER THAT WE TOOK THE BLAZER TO ON THIS OCCASIONS FOR A SECOND OPINION 11-2000 --THIS DEALER HAD ANOTHER 1995 BLAZER IN THE SHOP AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I THOUGHT THIS WAS ODD FOR A TOWN OF 25,000 PEOPLE AND OF COURSE THE 800 LINE TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICES ADVISED ME THAT IT WAN'T ANYTHING THAT COULD BE COVERED. THE ENGINE LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING. I ALMOST HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. THE VACUUM TO THE BRAKES IS LOST. THE RPM CHANGES RAPIDLY AND THE ENGINE SPUTTERS. I CALLED CHEVROLET'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AND THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER JUST BRINGING IN THE REPAIR FOR A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM TRANSFER CASE SWITCH AND VACUUM SWITCH REPAIR AND THEY HOOKED UP A COMPUTER TO THE CODE READER SLOT AND SAW THAT THERE WAS PROBLEMS WITH THE EGR VALVE. THE TECHNICIAN GUNNED THE ENGINE A FEW TO TIMES CLAIMING THAT HE WAS CLEARING THE VALVE OF A PIECE OF STUCK CARBON. IT WENT AWAY AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP ON THE ROAD 5 MINUTES LATER. THEY CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM IN NUMEROUS S10 CHEVROLET BLAZERS AND THEY RECOMMEND REPLACING THE PART. I CLAIM THAT THIS IS A DANGER TO ALL 1995 S10 BLAZER OWNERS AND THE PART SHOULD BE RE-DESIGNED TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING IF THEY HAVE SO MANY ISSUES WITH IT. BRAKE LININGS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 30,000 MILES AND JUST ABOUT EVERY 30,000 MILES AFTER THAT. THE REAR END WENT OUT AT ABOUT 72,000 MILES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $1800. WE WERE ON A TRIP FROM KENTUCKY TO ALABAMA ON JUNE 23,2000, AND THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER WENT OUT. WE WERE FORCED TO TRAVEL WITH BRAKES THAT SOUNDED LIKE THERE WAS A HORRIBLE AIR LEAK EVERY TIME YOU APPLIED THEM, AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE ABS LIGHT HAD COME ON IN JUNE, 1999, BUT WE HAD RECENTLY PAID $1800 FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR END, AND WERE TOLD THAT OUR REGULAR BRAKES WOULD DO FINE, SO WE WAITED. WHEN WE HEARD THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN CALLED ON THAT ABS SYSTEM WE CALLED THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT THEY ALWAYS SAID THAT THEY HADN'T RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION FROM GM ABOUT IT YET. WE FINALLY GOT A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO, ALMOST A YEAR AFTER IT WAS ANNOUNCED. WHEN THE REAR END WENT OUT, WE HAD BEEN HEARING A STRANGE RUMBLING NOISE THAT GOT PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER. WE TOOK THE CAR TO SEVERRAL LOCAL MECHANICS, BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER A FEW WEEKS WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR END. NOW IT IS BEGINNING TO MAKE THE SAME SOUND, AND THEY WILL CHECK THAT TOMORROW. THEY TOOK MY CAR TODAY TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND SAID THAT THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER WAS BAD AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS BAD. THAT ALONE WILL COST OVER $700. THEY SAID THAT THE WHOLE ABS MODULE WAS BAD, AND IF WE WANT THAT FIXED IT WILL BE ABOUT $1000 DOLLARS MORE. IF THEY DECIDE THAT THE REAR END IS BAD AGAIN, THAT WILL ADD ANOTHER $1800 DOLLARS AGAIN, I GUESS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN MAINLY BY ME AND MY HUSBAND (51 & 52 YRS OLD)-- AROUND TOWN AND ON THE HIGHWAY TO VISIT OUR KIDS AND PICK UP GRANDKIDS. IT HAS NOT BEEN MISUSED, AND HAS HAD ALL MAINTENANCE WORK DONE. *AK

I HAVE REPORTED THIS VEHICLE IN THE PAST TO CHEVROLET AND NHTSA. SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM, ABS ARE THE MAJOR COMPLAINTS AND ALSO THE POWER LOCKING SYSTEM FOR THE DOORS. AFTER AN ACCIDENT IN DECEMBER 1997, DUE TO FAULTY BRAKES AND ABS NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THEN HE MADE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM WHERE THE DEALER SAID HE REPLACED THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKES IN JANUARY OF 1998. EVEN AFTER HE MADE THESE REPAIRS THE BRAKES AND THE ABS WAS STILL NOT WORKING I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID THERE STILL WAS NOTHING WRONG UNTIL IT HAPPENED WHEN I HAD THE REPAIR MANAGER IN THE TRUCK WITH ME. MR. WALLACE OF WARNOCK CHEVROLET OF MORRISTOWN NEW JERSEY SIAD THEN THAT HE WAS 110 PERCENT SURE THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. THIS IS AFTER THE FACT OF THE MANY ATTEMPTS PRIOR TO TRYING TO GET THEM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THE ACCIDENT OF DECEMBER 1997 OCCURRED. IN JULY OF 1998 AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF HAVING PROBLEMS I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THE SAME REPAIRS HAD TO BE DONE. HE ALSO SAID I NEEDED A TUNE UP, WHICH I ONLY HAD IN MAY OF 1997 BY WARNOCK. THIS TRUCK HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE THE ABS AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM, AND POWER DOOR LOCKS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY. I THINK IT IS ABOUT TIME THE GOVERNMENT DID SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. I ALSO BELIEVE WARNOCK CHEVROLET IS A DISREPUTABLE DEALERSHIP. I DEMAND AN INVESTIGATION. WORK ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE BRAKES HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN ITS VEHICLE HISTORY.
