FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
11 complaints
On June 7, 2025 at 5:00pm while driving on the expressway, my car suddenly braked, jolted and skidded and I pulled over. My granddaughter was in the back seat and I thought either a tire blew or I got hit. I called my son and he did some research and found articles of this happening to Chevy Bolts euv's. They call it phantom braking. It happened 2 times before in the city and I thought I drove over something on the road. I took it into the dealer and they could not determine the problem. They said they opened a case with GM and gave me a Customer Concern Verification form to fill out if it happens again. They said if it happens again, then they will replace the forward collision module. I am terrified to drive on an expressway in fear this will happen again. I could have gotten hit if a car was too close behind me when my car broke suddenly. I nervously drive home after this event, while my son stayed on the phone with me.
Jul 15, 2025
On several occasions, the car has locked the breaks, causing the car behind me to almost rear end me. The forward collision camera thinks it sees an object or another's vehicle in front when there is nothing on the road and activates the breaks for no reason. This has happened approximately 6 times while traveling anywhere between 20mph to 55mph on the freeway. I called chevy dealer and said there are no recalls or any updates that they can perform on the camera as of now. This is a huge safety issue and chevy should be issuing recalls for issue.
Dec 16, 2024
This vehicle has now suffered 5 instances of phantom braking, clear road and clear weather in 10,000 miles of use. Two occurrences within the last week despite carefully cleaning the car and sensors/camera. Twice I have nearly been rear-ended. The dealer found no issues when this was initially reported.
Sep 11, 2024
Forward collision warning / automatic emergency braking engaged with no hazard in front of the car. Occurred in slow, heavy traffic at approximately 20 mph. Lanes were straight (not on a curve). Vehicle in front of mine was at least four vehicle lengths ahead. Lanes to the left and right were occupied by large box trucks - I suspect they confused the system. Car has just over 10,000 miles. Vehicle briefly braked hard, which if the vehicle behind me had been following too close could have run into mine. Have not yet contacted a dealer or service center. Not inspected as no actual collision occurred. System once gave an erroneous warning of forward collision with no other vehicles on the road in the first month of service.
Aug 15, 2024
While using adaptive cruise control, the vehicle braked suddenly with no other cars or obstacles in view. If a vehicle was behind us, we would have been hit at 70 mph.

STEERING
8 complaints
I am experiencing a well known flaw in the Chevy Bolt steering rack. The rack loses grease over time and eventually begins making clunking sounds, does not return the steering wheel to center, and makes steering less precise. This is a very common issue within Chevy Bolt forums and should be addressed by Chevy as a safety issue.
Nov 03, 2025
2023 Bolt's steering wheel doesn't return to center position while driving making it dangerous to drive.
Oct 30, 2025
Steering system not behaving as expected. Very stiff when making left and right turns at slow and moderate speeds, with a failure of the steering wheel to return to center.
Oct 26, 2025
Steering wheel will not return to center after turning. This is a known issue with other model year bolts. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL!
Jul 21, 2025
Steering wheel will not return to center after making turns in any direction. Steering has gradually stiffened, but is immediately noticeable. This car is driven daily by my spouse. Our child with his new learner's permit noted how he had to turn the wheel back and it didn't happen automatically like the car he took driving lessons in. I drove the car and it was plainly obvious that the steering wheel was stiff and nearly frozen. Car has 42,000 miles and is no longer covered by GM's warranty. I am bringing it to an independent mechanic for repair, immediately.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
8 complaints
This model has a dangerous driving problem that is difficult to reproduce; however, it points to a flaw in a coupled design that causes simple infotainment system failures to negatively impact both on-star help system and critical driving system. This problem recurred on [XXX] in suburban area of Buena Park CA; previous occurrence in 2024 had purported possible resolution through software download. It begins with simple problem of inability to change FM channel; checking other controls on infotainment screen showed all displays responding correctly, including commands to change station; yet it does not. Only after car has been parked and EV motor turned off for awhile, did this problem reset. This is an indication that previous problem remains unresolved. Previously, on an isolated section of AZ highway without cell service, what began with radio control malfunction ended with this model turning off all speakers and all displays. Once speakers were turned off, on-star interaction can not be heard in the car. I expected separate speakers for on-star emergencies; however, to my surprise it seems to be routed through or related to infotainment system. Then possible stops and attempts to reset the infotainment system through turning off the car, caused all lights to go off on the dash. I had to drive many miles through isolated desert and mountains to reach a safe offramp with no instrumentation. This makes suspect what else could go wrong when in isolated regions. So far the danger seems to be related to driving in no cell service area; however, without further investigation, this design of coupling infotainment system with both critical driving and emergency systems makes this model unreliable and dangerous to everyone in this car. Please investigate and decouple these systems. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV. The contact stated that since purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle had experienced several battery drainage failures, and the battery was drained within 2 to 3 days of being parked. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that occasionally the service engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that there no fault was found with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

Dashboard went blank for a second and reset itself twice while driving at 65 mph in the mountains of AZ, near sunset. This happened once in 18k of driving, right after infotainment system partially failed: audio failed and parts of touch screen failed to respond. Danger is in the unsuspecting driver's reaction in poor driving conditions. Call to On Star was initiated but it uses the same audio system the infotainment system uses. So On Star failed. Pulled over; restarted car several times, infotainment system was silent. 2 hours of driving in silence; parked for 2 hours; restarted car and everything was back to normal. Took it to dealer. Unable to recreate this problem. Updated software downloaded to infotainment system. No information if this fixes problems. Until we understand why infotainment problems may cause dashboard to go dark, this car is unsafe for unsuspecting drivers. My wife was driving; I in passenger seat, she won't be driving this car again until this is understood better and fixed. Thank you for your help

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - I believe it is the electrical component, or wiring component that is under the hood. It spontaneously caught on fire in the middle of the night with no indication of arson or outside source. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Definitely a safety concern since how would anyone know if their car will not spontaneously catch on fire while driving, parked, inside a garage? Not only my own safety concern, but for my family and neighboring houses/cars' safety as well. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? GM Claims department only stated that they went by NFPA921-2021. However, no detailed report was produced, or at least they say it never did, even though we requested more than two dozen times. And evidently, just closed the case without giving us a valid reasoning or evidence of anything. And as for the NFPA921-2021, it is two years old already. Please keep in mind that GM had this car for almost 3 months for investigation but no report, reasoning, or any valid understanding for a consumer's point of view. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? GM said they did but no investigation report or work report or anything related to that has been provided. NO EVIDENCE, NO TRAIL, NO INVESTIGATION REPORT. Only denial letter. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear None of the warnings were shown prior to this. 3 months of investigation from GM, but no reports, no investigation report was produced or provided. How can we as a consumer, believe what they are doing is valid and fair?

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Brake light problems, i.e., the brake and turn signal lights are mounted on the bumper. TOO low and dangerous. Trucks and pickups especially DO NOT see these low mounted lights. I've been almost rear-ended when stopping on numerous occasions. Drivers expect to see lights at line of sight NOT at the bottom of a vehicle. The earlier versions of the Boldt had the lights higher, why this poor design? It may be legal but certainly not acceptable in today's world. This is a SAFETY issue and unacceptable. Owners are rewiring their cars (see Chevy Boldt Forum or YouTube videos) which should not have to be done on a new 2023 vehicle.
Jan 12, 2024
Brake lights are too low on vehicle - middle lights are only running lights. Drivers behind vehicle in stop and go traffic must rely on high mounted third brake light mounted at peak of vehicle roof line, especially difficult for larger vehicles (SUVs, Trucks) to see low mounted brakes, with expectation that the middle lights will indicate braking. Multiple reports and complains regarding this issue are posted online and also in this database.
Aug 15, 2023
We were pulled over because a police officer could not see our brake lights. We told him that the lights are at the bottom of the vehicle and not in the logical spot. I exited the vehicle and showed him that the brake lights were located at the bottom of the vehicle and not where you would expect the brake lights to be. My husband was driving and he tapped the brakes so we could see that they were working properly. He issued us a warning. As a sidenote, the officer really was looking out for our safety and not trying to trap. He said that he had to document the traffic stop. This really isn't a issue of a faulty product but there should be a recall where the brakes are connected to the running lights in an area which is where you would expect the brake lights to be.
Jun 20, 2023
Got rear ended. I learned that the brake lights on the Bolt EUV are mounted low and are small. The large rear lights that people would normally assume as brake lights do not light up when braking. This could increase the chances of rear end collisions.

Crash: 1
The brake & turn signal lights are located at the bottom of the bumper, however the vehicle has additional taillights midway up the back of the vehicle, these are in the traditional area of the car, however these taillights in the traditional place do not indicate a stop or turn. This is where most people’s eyes are focused when they are following you, not at the bottom of the bumper. This creates a situation where it’s possible the vehicle following you will have at least a delayed reaction in stopping when you do. Upgrading the mid level lights to indicate stop and turn would eliminate this unsafe situation.

Rear backup camera feed fails to display on infotainment screen. The issue appeared about a month ago and persisted until I took it into the dealership. The service center updated the software, and the camera initially worked properly again, but within 2 weeks of the repair, the issue recurred and persisted. Federal safety standards require all vehicles made after May 2018 to have functioning backup cameras. I live in a neighborhood that has a lot of small children, and their safety is at risk when any vehicle’s back up camera is not working.

I have a chevrolet bolt for which I have a mychevrolet app link to control the vehicle remotely. For some reason I just noticed my mychevrolet app also is linked to a second chevy Bolt (the vehicle I am noting the VIN of in this complaint) for which I have no ownership of. This is a massive security lapse by chevrolet and they need to be investigated thoroughly as to why this occurred.

Excessive glare on dash and especially side mirrors reflecting from chrome colored vents. This makes it distracting when trying to distinguish when cars/pedestrians are reflected in the mirrors.
Apr 16, 2025
Intermittently, the car's cameras will be unavailable for the duration of a drive. Backup camera does not show a feed when the car is in Reverse. Simply turning the car off and back on again does not resolve the issue. Issues goes away by itself, and reappears some amount of time later. No consistent location, temperature, time of day, or other condition has been observed.

Incident #23E065 Has a recall on the CHARGER and NOT the car itself. The car is not impacted but my ability to sell the car is. This needs to be changed so that I am able to sell the car, which has no defects, and is perfectly safe and drivable.

SERVICE BRAKES
5 complaints
I was driving down the street when I suddenly got the following warning lights: red BRAKE, traction control, and a generic warning light. I got the following messages: Service ESC, steering assist is reduced. As soon as I got the warnings, I pressed on the brake pedal to slow done, but it wouldn't move. I was instead able to use the one-pedal driving/regenerative braking to slow down. Without the one-pedal driving, I believe I would've crashed. The problem was confirmed and repaired by the dealer. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealer, no one else.

1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - When a car stopped in front of us suddenly, the brakes on the car did not fully stop the car and continued to skid even when the break was pushed all the way down. I believe there is an issue with the EV braking system or software associated with the braking system. While this occurs rarely, this has occurred a handful of times in the last year that we have owned this car. The first time resulted in damage to my front bumper which had to be repaired. 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - Nobody has been hurt yet. But this is absolutely a safety concern for us. 3) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - We brought the car into the dealership in mid June 2024 and they said they found no issues with the braking system. They told me to contact Chevy's main phone number to complain. I tried calling but have not had any luck reaching a person, as I was simply put on hold for about an hour. 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - This was only inspected by the dealership during a routine service check in June 2024. No issues were found by them. 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - None that I remember.

Crash: 1
I noticed on the steering column and "one pedal" (bumper to bumper speed) brakes, both do not activate the brake lights -- a concern for vehicles from behind to be warned of my pending slowing down speed. The potential of being hit from behind is far greater without any indication of slowing down without brake lights activated using the steering column and "one pedal" breaking.

UNKNOWN Recall issue: there is a safety issue regarding the inconsistent Regen braking. Does not brake the same (or at all) when car is charged. Making it unsafe to rely on EV in braking scenarios. Braking should be the same (e.g., expected distance, hardness) whether fully charged or not. I know it is based on Regen requirements, but you can not rely on it to brake you (per expected distance) if just charged, as opposed to harder/shorter braking if battery is low, a.k.a. needing more Regen. Regen is a neat feature, but associated with inconsistent braking is not.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I was driving in my neighborhood a few miles from home on a state road going about 45/50 mph. The car suddenly slowed to 30 mph without warning, an alert said there was a problem with the propulsion system and speed was limited to 30mph. There was no prior warning or indication of a problem. The sudden deceleration almost caused the car behind me to hit me.

While slowing down to park, just before stopping, my husband took his foot off the pedal and the car accelerated. This happened twice in the past week. He had the “break assist” feature engaged, which automatically breaks the car when you remove your foot from the accelerator. The car should have slowed then stopped but it accelerated. He did not touch the accelerator. I have not yet contacted the dealer, but see numerous complaints like this in chat forums online. No warning lights came on either.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION
2 complaints
I’ve experienced multiple instances where the Rear Cross Traffic Alert system on my 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV fails to function properly when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Specifically, there are times when the system does not emit any audible warning despite approaching cross traffic, and in other cases, the alert system appears to be completely unresponsive, no visual indicators or chimes occur at all. This happens intermittently and unpredictably, regardless of weather conditions or terrain. The issue is concerning because the system is a critical safety feature intended to warn of vehicles or objects approaching from the side while reversing, particularly in parking lots or driveways. The lack of warning increases the risk of a collision, especially in areas with obstructed views or high pedestrian activity. This appears to be a defect in the sensor system or software that controls cross traffic detection. I believe this poses a significant safety concern and may affect other Bolt EV vehicles.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV. The contact stated that while in reverse(R), the infotainment screen displayed a red, triangular warning symbol, rendering the back-up camera inoperable. The contact also stated that an alert feature warning the driver of incoming objects also failed to operate as needed. In addition, the contact stated that the infotainment system intermittently failed to return to normal operation while shifted out of reverse(R). The vehicle had been taken to the dealer on numerous occasions where the wiring harness, back-up camera, head unit, infotainment screen, and other parts related to the defect had been replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had been notified on numerous occasions about the failure but offered no solutions. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,506.

While car was on a warning popped up saying "Service Transmission" and then another warning popped up saying "Propulsion Power is Reduced". This then limited the speed of the car and the acceleration significantly making it extremely unsafe to drive. Thankfully I was not on the interstate, but I certainly would have been hit if I was. This car is less than 2 years old, has under 10,000 miles, and his had all recommended maintenance done.

One pedal speed control was used to slow down and stop the car approaching a busy intersection. The car came to a complete stop and was idle at the intersection. While stopped at the red light, the car suddenly accelerated into oncoming traffic and was directly heading towards a head-on collision. The driver turned the car to the left, avoiding injury, however, a party in the other vehicle was injured. The Chevy Bolt received extensive damage and was totaled. The police filed a report and the insurance company inspected the vehicle and has taken possession of the vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Software in the EV system created to protect the battery pack has instead placed my life in jeopardy in response to known false sensor event. During 110 degree heat in isolated desert in southern California, the software detected a false error in high voltage comparisons between battery banks. In response, it disabled climate control, reduced propulsion, and placed an upper limit of 40% on battery recharge system. Without any warning nor noticeable malfunction during the drive out to the desert truck stop, 1 hour of fast charging at 50 kWH resulted in the charger being turned off by the car after reaching only 40%. With no info, I just assumed that this was a failure of the charger; however, I had used this specific charger 1 month prior without any problems. Only after I left this truck stop and headed to the next electric charger, some 50 miles away, did I notice the lack of A/C and warnings on the dash. At this time I called Chevrolet Roadside Service(CRS) and received advice to proceed to the charger then if charging attempt fails, call them back. I drove in 118 degree with open windows behind the slowest moving semi I could find. Within minutes my connected phone for map guidance, started overheating from both the environment and the car charging my phone. I realized I could die out here without car nor phone. Upon arrival, my attempts produced only 4 kWH charging speed at a 50 kWH station. After many false guidances and about 6 calls to CRS and 1 day, I was able to get my car towed to nearby Chevrolet dealer who was too busy to look at the car for 2-3 days. Next day I picked up my car and drove in 102 degree heat to where I purchased this car 2 years ago. 2 days later I picked it up; a known problem solved by a software download fixed it.

I was driving on a highway at approximately 68 MPH. There were no cars in front of me and none beside. The adaptive cruise control system was engaged. The car applied the brakes without warning, as if I was a going to collide with another vehicle. I depressed the brake to turn off the system and hit the gas pedal.

I was driving on CT Route 2 using super cruise. We came upon a construction zone and the bar on the steering wheel changed from green to red. The car came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway and didn't respond to the accelerator pedal. This is a frightening situation on a super highway. I tried pressing the buttons that turn on and off the cruise control, super cruise, etc. with no effect. Cars behind me passed on the left and right. I finally tried putting the car in Park and back into Drive. From that point on it worked normally. This is the second time this happened. The first time I had only had the car for a week, so I thought it was just a mistake on my part. I did have a dash cam running, but the files are too large. I will keep them on my computer should you wish to have them. The consumer stated that during this incident, they could not take over control from the Super Cruise.

Automatic braking system works when unnecessary. No one and nothing in front of car when driving and auto braking stops vehicle. Multiple incidents. My children and I suffered seatbelt, neck, and back pain when stopped without warning. Also, scared. No, problem cannot be reproduced. No, vehicle has not been inspected. No prior warning before incident.

I was driving normally at low-to-moderate speed when the brake -- or emergency brake, I'm not sure -- engaged for a moment all by itself, thrusting me forward unexpectedly. There was no "beeping" to indicate that there was any car, object or person in my way. It was temporary but terrifying. Fortunately, I was not rear-ended. This is the second time this has happened. I didn't report it at the time, but today, it happened again (I will report it under a separate incident) so this is clearly an ongoing issue.

The Telematics Module failed at 43,000 miles, 2 years. This shut down everything having to do with GPS, Communications, Super Cruise. I got into an accident, which I feel the car would have responded to, before the accident, if this system was working. The warning was the on star, super cruise, communications, warnings didn't work. On the dash a symbol GPS with red circle and line through it was visible. The Chevrolet Dealership diagnosed the problem and is replacing the module, at my expense. If you do a google search on Telematics Module you will find that this issue applies to all GM vehicles and failure rate is right when the manufacturers warranty runs out, 36,000 miles.

This car is equipped with Super Cruise an automated driving feature that I believe had a huge part in my inability to avoid hitting a deer. There should be many more considerations and warnings to consumers to protect them. In my situation I kept driving for much longer than I should have because the strain was not so bad. But the feature does not have a feature to pull over. I had to manually pull over and it was in this short period of time where I was clearly too impaired to drive without super cruise but with it I was still fine I could keep my eyes open and on the road which was the only requirement. I was really not prepared and should have been told to make sure you get off the road sooner than you think because once you’re off the highway if you don’t have enough alertness to even pull over or in my case avoid a deer running straight toward my car. The steering feature steered me back toward the deer as I tried to steer away from it. It was running toward me so I tried to steer away to brake. In order to overpower these safety systems I needed to be more alert. Nobody talks about this and I’m normally a really alert driver that’s never been in an accident before I’ve avoided many without these safety features. I know it was my fault for being too tired, but again people shouldn’t be learning that in a life or death situation that should be explained to them. Obviously I would never use that feature until the point I was too tired like I normally do when I’m driving because like I said there is no safe way to pull over if you don’t have the alertness. I mean imagine it was a child and not a deer and I hit a child. That would be a mistake you can’t come back from and I don’t want that to happen to me or anybody else. I’m really second guessing all of this automatic driving because us as consumers have not been properly educated on how to use them safely cause I don’t think these automakers know they are in such a rush to beat each order to market it’s dangerou

Last month I ran out of battery before getting home when the weather was 15 degrees and windy. Without my knowledge the vehicle was heating the battery significantly reducing the remaining range, no vehicle indicator warning that the vehicle was conditioning the battery. I realized what was happening when I turned on outside venting without using heat to defrost the window and the air was hot, if I was new to the vehicle or on my first trip I would have been stranded in an area where there may not have been a place to pull off the highway. I decided to report this in case it can save even one person’s life, there is an increased danger and liability not knowing this information. As most people, I set the cruise and pay attention to the road so majority of the time you don’t see the unknown increases in the kW usage, an update should be required to show an alarm of some sort and the additional active kW consumption and expected range deduction when the vehicle is doing any kind of conditioning (heating, cooling, or maintenance). There is a battery maintenance % view that should be modified to accommodate this.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
2 complaints
The situation occurs when using supercruise (GM’s lane centering and adaptive cruise control system). Under certain conditions with super cruise engaged and one pedal drive mode active, pressing the cancel cruise button (example: taking manual control briefly in order to allow a merging car into your lane) causes the vehicle to abruptly decelerate without the ability to override with the pedal. This uncontrollable abrupt deceleration poses a hazard to vehicles behind me. This deceleration can only really be overridden by proactively pressing on the accelerator prior to disengaging the super cruise system. I suspect this problem is caused by logic in the super cruise system which does not allow the vehicle to accelerate while the steering wheel is flashing red (such as during disengagement). Generally, removing the flashing red condition from the steering wheel requires applying torque to the steering wheel. However, this is not practical when driving straight and needing to disengage the system. The supercruise system needs to be able to safely and properly disengage at the press of a button without needing to step on the accelerator. I believe that disengaging supercruise without pressure on the accelerator pedal should lead to the car defaulting to going into maximum one pedal braking yet still being able to accelerate on command if needed. The current state of the system requires torque on the steering wheel in order to be able to accelerate out of such a situation.

Adaptive cruise failed just over 2k miles following another vehicle under 60mph and sped up to set cruise of 75 and would have hit the truck if I didn’t stop it, I took video of failure directly after the incident. First bolt EUV camera failed more than once even after it was replaced, that car was bought back under battery recall. My point is, it’s a continued issue. With lane keep assist you must always be prepared for it not to function, it doesn’t always work and have to cycle the on/off button (same with previous EUV too). While in super cruise in my current vehicle it tried to locate the left lane but a big rig was on the line and my car appeared it was going to hit the truck multiple times within a few seconds as each time I had to bring the car back to the center until I turned it off. I have parts on order but I personally don’t believe that will be the end of based upon my two vehicles.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SERVICE BRAKES
2 complaints
I purchased a used 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV one week ago today and was shocked to learn of a known issue with the rear brake lights many claim is a very serious and hazardous design flaw. Undoubtedly, you have received complaints from fellow 2022 & 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV owners who have advised the car's rear brake lights are dangerously located down below in the bumper section. The mid-section of the back (hatch area) lights are "running lights" only. During daylight, the mid-section rear lights are not illuminated at any time per design (neither turn signal nor brake lights); yet, this creates a confusing (at minimum) situation for fellow drivers who are following the car. Although placement of the brake lights down below in the bumper section meets safety guidelines, the typical driver (myself included) is trained to watch for brake lights and turn signals in tail-light mid-section on the back of the vehicle. In addition to this, owners of bigger / taller trucks and SUVs who may be following a bit too closely may not see the bumper brake lights at all. Today, the theory was tested in real life, as I was nearly "rear-ended" by another vehicle in moderate city traffic while stopped at a stop light. The driver coming up behind me slammed on his brakes and screeched to a stop while I moved forward slightly to avoid the crash. Naturally, the other driver thought my brake lights were non-functioning as he passed me yelling through his rolled down window I needed to "fix (my) fu*king brakes lights". THIS HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR A MERE 200 MILES AFTER I PURCHASED LAST WEEK. If I extrapolate, this means my life will potentially be in danger from a rear end collision *50 TIMES* over the next year assuming I conservatively drive 10,000 miles. This is incredibly unacceptable and is shameful. GM needs to recall these vehicles immediately and install appropriate brake and turn signal lights. How many injuries and deaths will it take I wonder. Please act now. Thank you.

Iv'e owned the Bolt EUV for a few months and I was almost rear ended at least 4 times. One time the person tapped my rear bumper with their license plate and left a very light mark. There wasn't enough damage to make a report and the driver stated that they didnt notice me braking. The brake lights are too low and not very noticable( see attached photo with arrows). This issue can easily be corrected. The Bolt EUV has a light in the middle right above the rear window that only operates at night when you turn on the lights. They should have it act as a break light also.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

While merging onto a highway with a 60 mph speed limit, we got an error message that there was a propulsion system error and our speed was limited to 30 mph. Our car slowed down and could not accelerate. There was no warning before the speed was limited and no way to change course. It was Saturday night Nov. 25th and we had our one and half year old daughter in the backseat. Thank god my husband was able to react quickly and that there was shoulder for us to pull over on. Honestly we could have been killed or seriously injured. It’s a huge safety issue that the car will suddenly, without any warning, prevent you from going above a certain speed. The purpose is to protect the car, as I understand it, but there should at the very least be a countdown. I’m incredibly grateful I can report this to and that there wasn’t a tragic accident, but if this how this feature operates, it only a matter of time before there is one. Also there is less than 1000 miles on our car.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Transmission Fluid Pump failed, and is needing to be replaced. The car only had 200 miles on it and was bought 5 days prior before the issue began. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The car immediatley reduced my speed to 30mph. I was driving on an expressway, and caused me to slow traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yea, I have the error code given to me by OnStar: P2797 Auxilliary Transmission Fluid Pump error Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been brought into a Chevrolet service center and awaiting for a replacement part from GM. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The check engine light came on and then the car immediately slowed my speed.

AIR BAGS
2 complaints
At less than 300 miles on odometer and while charging at a level 2 charger I checked my Chevy app and saw a warning for service airbag system. I had just checked it 15 mins prior and it was not on. Now it has an airbag light on…at 291 miles on the car. In car it says service safety restraint system. Still have to make a 200 mile trip back to my town in a couple days. Definitely frustrating for a car I have only had a week.
Oct 27, 2023
The service safety restraint system light intermittently comes on. This has occurred multiple times over a one month period. I have seen this happen two different ways: 1) after turning on the vehicle, the message appears in the instrument cluster and the airbag light illuminates. The message can be dismissed and does not reappear while driving although the airbag light remains on. 2) Same as (1) with the exception that the vehicle will “chime” and display the message several times during a trip with the message reappearing each time. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for repair. They stated that there were two stored codes that could be related. Since they were unable to reproduce the issue, they asked that I take the vehicle back without any repair made.

Started the vehicle then attempted to shift into reverse, got "Conditions not correct for shift" error displayed on dashboard. Could also not shift into drive. I was able to shift into neutral and have it towed. I tried powering down and back on. Powered off, locked the car and walked out of keyfob range for 10min then returned and tried again. Nothing worked. Eventually the problem cleared up on it's own by the time the tow truck arrived (45min later)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE
1 complaint
The lane departure warning goes on and off randomly. The heating stopped working. There are glitches on the screen interface. And yesterday a red light with a car and exclamation mark through it came on. I took it to the dealer and they only had time to check the code which came up as "hybrid/ev powertrain control module requested MIL illumination" The advisor who is not an ev technician told me not to worry about it because the light went off. Everything i am reading online says this could be a huge safety issue. When I reported it to the manufacturer, they told me to listen to the dealer without getting more information and would not transfer me to a manager. I am concerned for my safety and the safety of others. And I am finding Chevrolet to be negligent on what could be a huge hazard.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
1 complaint
The adaptive cruise control as well as regular cruise control limits the electronic braking to 10 kW. After that the friction brakes take over. There is little indication of it, and I think it's a safety risk because in hilly areas, as well as mountainous roads, the friction brakes activate risking overheating the brakes and a brake failure. I believe the earlier model years would not limit the electronic braking and would maintain the speed down hills using regenerative braking exclusively.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
1 complaint
While turning into a parking space, my car unexpectedly accelerated rapidly. My car crashed into a concrete barrier damaging the front end and tossing items around the car. Additional details: I was driving my car in single-pedal mode. In this mode, when you lift your foot from the accelerator, the car automatically brakes. I have a lot of experience in single-pedal mode, and I am very familiar and comfortable with how it works. On the morning in question, I was coming around a corner in an underground parking garage, and pulling into a parking space immediately around the corner. To do this, I was making a hair pin turn, moving at very slow speed. I was pulling in alongside a car that was already parked there. When the front of my car was in the space and I was completing my turn, I lifted my foot from the accelerator, and the car suddenly lurched forward at high speed. Before I could recover, the car crashed into a high concrete curb that marked the end of the parking space. The front bumper of my car was damaged and items flew off the seats of my car onto the floor. I was shaken up, but the air bags did not deploy. I was able to back out, complete parking, and proceed with my day. If this had happened in other circumstances, it could have led to loss of life. If I was on a street, and pedestrians were walking, for example. If the concrete curb had not been there to stop me, I don't know what would have happened. If another car had been where the curb was, it would have been damaged. This has only happened once. We haven't tried to reproduce it. I have continued to drive the car, and it has been fine. There were no indications (warning lights, etc) that this was going to happen. No warning lights have gone on since it happened. The car has not yet been inspected, but I plan on bringing it to the dealership to have it checked out. I did not file a police or insurance report.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiper had failed and needed to be replaced. The wiper was replaced but not repaired due to the one ordered not being suitable for the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact that the arm used for the blade associated with the vehicle was on backorder. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.

I drove the vehicle roughly 5 miles on city streets then parked and walked away for roughly 15 minutes. I came back, got in the car, powered it on and attempted to shift but was presented an error message stating “Conditions not correct for shift”. The car seemed to be ‘running’, but the AC did not turn on despite the settings displaying that it was operating. Thankfully I was able to shut down the car after a few minutes and, after waiting a few minutes further, power it back up. This is the first time this has happened to me. Additional details: Mileage: <900 Age: ~2 months At first I thought this could be due to my own behavior. I live in the Southwest (desert). This is possibly the first time I haven’t remotely started the car and let it precondition, but that seems slightly irrelevant given that this happened at night (not baking in the sun) and, before the 10 minutes of rest, the vehicle should have theoretically been ‘conditioning’ during the previous drive.

Frightening SAFETY Problem: Sudden Power loss on Los Angeles freeway. About 6/21/2023 began repeated episodes where my Chevy 2023 Bolt EUV hesitated for a few seconds before responding when I pushed on the accelerator pedal. Full power and acceleration resumed right after the initial hesitation and were sustained until I had to stop the car. A dashboard warning light appeared. I called for an On-Demand Diagnostic evaluation, spoke by phone with Chevrolet support who assisted with the evaluation and emailed me the results (screenshot) indicating an issue with the HCP - Hybrid Control Processor Module and a Diagnostic Code P2797. The Diagnostic Information read: "The Electric Drive Unit is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the Auxiliary Transmission Pump System..." The “Recommended Action” was to “Service within 7 days.” (Screenshot) I contacted the dealership where I purchased the car and was told that I would have to leave it for several days before evaluation/servicing could be done. However the next morning (before I could take the car to the dealership) the instrument panel alert had disappeared. So I considered it all a temporary "glitch". Then on 8/27, driving about 60MPH on very busy 405 Freeway in Los Angeles, the car suddenly lost most of its power and slowed down…with an orange dashboard warning icon “Propulsion Power is Reduced” and another message that speed limited to 30 MPH. Alarmed and fearful, I turned on emergency blinker lights, moved to right lane and exited freeway at next off-ramp. The problem persisted as I slowly drove surface streets to destination and parked. Several hours later I started car; alert message came on but car accelerated normally. I slowly drove home on surface streets. On 8/29 another Chevy dealership identified "Scanning Code P2797" and "Replaced Transmission Fluid Pump” by warranty coverage. No problem since. Service manager said she has seen 3 similar problems. I see similar reports online.

POWER TRAIN,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
1 complaint
I, and many other owners of Chevy Bolts are having our speed suddenly reduced without warning. The vehicle immediately drops to a max speed of 30 mph and gives an error message "Propulsion Power is Reduced". One common cause seems to be defective transmission fluid pumps, although other electrical and mechanical components also seem to cause this problem. One common error code seems to be P2797, along with the "Propulsion Power is Reduced" message. This dangerous speed reduction is sometimes happening in dangerous situations, while driving in heavy traffic and at high speeds on highways. This is an incredibly dangerous defect and could easily cause car accidents, injuries or death. People are also being stranded without warning. There are many posts (dozens+) about this on various owners groups, including Reddit, Facebook groups and others. The Bolt brake lights and turn signals are also placed in very bad locations which are not obvious or visible, which is also incredibly dangerous.

I just bought a new chevy bolt euv from a dealership here in Michigan. No sooner than me driving off their lot, a pickup truck damn near ram into me. I was in thick traffic following slow vehicles and the only damage cause was a skid mark on the road he cause. No damages to my bolt. He roll down and said fix your brake lights. I yell back, it's factory! I'm scared to hold onto this vehicle when it comes to winter time. Most vehicle's license plate get obscured by snow. These brake lights and turn signals are even below the license plate. A recall and a redesign needs to happen. Too many people expressing negative opinion on this issue on the forums. Thank you for reading this. Have a great day.

LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
1 complaint
First off the Forward Collision Alert doesn't work until your about 1 to 2 feet from impact, no matter which of the 3 settings it's put on. We were so close to impact to the rear of a semi when the service tech was testing it that I was very uncomfortable. The lane assist doesn't work until you're left of center or it bounces you back and forth like a drunk drive, plus it doesn't always reconize the yellow or white dotted line. On occasion it will completely go over left of center and put you in the left lane. (It will not maintain the car in the center of the lane.) Today after service the appointment on the these problems, 7 March 2023 both the service Tech and Service manger told me they're just warnings nothing they can do about it. The manufacture sells sheet clearly states Foward Crash Alert. What good is it if your crashing when the alert goes off. It aloso clearly states on the sheet Lane keep assist w/lane departure alert. Again if your already left of center before you're alerted or corrected what good is. The Tech didn't even enter anything about the Anti collision not working but he did joke with the service manager about making me uncomfortable when we were about to collide with the semi.
