TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE REAR BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE BRAKES WOULD BE CLEANED AND ADJUSTED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIRS AND THE ELECTRONIC TRACKING SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR AND THE COMPUTER. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 213,000.

I BROUGHT A 1999 CHEVY CAVALIER IN DEC 08'. SINCE JAN 09' I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERE LOCKING OF THE REAR BRAKES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS SO FAR AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSIST. CURRENTLY I AM UNABLE TO PASS A MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. AT ALL THREE FACILITIES I USED TO TRY AND REPAIR THIS PROBLEM I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON AMONG GM VEHICLES. I HAVE SPENT AT LEAST APPROXIMATELY $600 DOLLARS ON THIS PROBLEM AND IT STILL PERSIST. THE MECHANICS THAT I HAVE TAKEN IT TO HAVE ADJUSTED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE REAR BRAKES ARE STILL LOCKING FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE NO APPARENT REASON ALL THREE MECHANICS SAY THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY LOOKS GOOD BUT I AM STILL NOT ABLE TO PASS INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD AT THE MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION STATION THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL CAUSE ME TO FISH TAIL EITHER CAUSING INJURY TO PASSENGERS IN MY CAR OR POSSIBLY OTHERS. *TR

THE ANTILOCK BRAKES IN THE CONSUMER'S 1999 CAVALIER ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS. *TS THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS PULLING IN AND OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, WHILE DRIVING IN PARKING LOTS AND WHILE PARKING. BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHTS ARE ON. THE ABS MOTOR PACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM. BAD MOTOR PACK DUE TO CORROSION IN GEARS IN MOTOR PACK. THIS CAUSES ABS TO "SHUT OFF" BUT ALSO FOR BRAKES TO DRAG, STICK, PREMATURE BREAK WEAR, AND WARPED ROTORS. MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE. NEWER DESIGN OF MOTOR PACK CONSISTS OF ELECTRONIC SOLENOID. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SERVICE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF. WHEN THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION FOR ONE HALF MILE UNTIL THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING. ENGINE WILL START IF TRANSMISSION IS PUT INTO NEUTRAL. THE EVENT HAPPENS WITH AND WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL ON. WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE STALLED. *AK WATER DRIPPED FROM THE VEHICLE WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO ADD ANTIFREEZE. THIS COOLED THE ENGINE. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THERE HE FOUND OUT THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS BAD AND THE ENGINE ROCKED BACK AND FORTH. THIS CAUSED THE BOLT ON THE COMPRESSOR TO PENETRATE A HOLE IN THE HOSE. THE MOTOR MOUNT AND HOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED. *PH *JB

TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, MY CAR STARTED SMOKING THROUGH THE AC VENTS ONE DAY AND I DESCRIBED THIS TO A CHEVY 800 # REP AND HE SAID THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER RECALL # 04002 IGNITION CIRCUIT THERMAL EVENTS. I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. I GO TO PICK IT UP AND THE BURNED WIRES UNDER THE DASH WERE NOT REPLACED, THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT SHUT OFF EVEN WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I CALLED THE 800# BACK AND TOLD HIM I WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND AND NOW THIS GUY CLAIMS THAT HE NEVER TOLD ME THAT THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL FITS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY CAR AND NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH NOT FIXING MY CAR. I WANT IT FIXED! THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNING INDICATORS BEFORE THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM FAILED. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V036000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) WAS REFERENCED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH FIRST AND THEN THE DEALER WOULD COMPLETE THE REST OF THE SAFETY RECALL REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,319 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,019.

I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DEC. 1998, AND A LITTLE OVER A YEAR LATER, THE ODOMETER STOPPED WORKING. HALF OF THE NUMBERS SHOW, AND IT IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME I START THE ENGINE. DT: THE CONSUMER WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FOR 3 YEARS. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ONCE AND TO A REPAIR SHOP 4 OR 5 TIMES FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED A WIRING HARNESS KIT, AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY WOULD NOT REFUND HER ANY MONEY. I PURCHASED A NEW 1999 CHEVY CAVALIER IN MARCH 1999 AND BEGAN HEARING CREAKING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. SINCE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY I TOOK IT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT FOR REPAIR. THEY GREASED SOME PARTS TO DIMINISH THE NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR IN 2 OTHER TIMES TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THE SAME ACTION WAS TAKEN, NO PARTS WERE EVER REPLACED. RECENTLY I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $2300. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS AND WARNINGS TO MECHANICS THAT CONSUMERS MAY COME TO THEM WITH THESE ISSUES LISTED OVER THE LAST 9 YEARS. THEREFORE, THIS IS A FLAW WITH THE VEHICLE THAT UNTIL NOW CHEVROLET HAS NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND WAS HEARING THIS WHINING NOISE. THE NEXT DAY I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT AT WORK AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL. I CALLED THE SHOP I TAKE MY CAR TO, AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT TO THEM AND THEY SAID A METAL PIECE UNDERNEATH THE CAR HAD RUBBED AGAINST THE TUBE THAT CARRIES THE POWER STEERING FLUID. DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT THE STEERING WHEEL SPUN AROUND FREELY WITHOUT THE VEHICLE MOVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE COUPLING WHERE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT MEETS THE STEERING WHEEL SLID OUT, LEAVING THE BOLT IN THE STEERING COMPLETELY INTACT. WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY STATED THAT THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN TO OTHER SIMILAR CARS. I TALKED WITH AN INDIVIDUAL THAT HAS BEEN SERVICING CHEVY CARS FOR 22 YEARS. HE STATED THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS THAT THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS WHICH CAUSES THE CLUTCH TO NOT DISENGAGE AND BURNS UP THE CLUTCH AND RUINS THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE CAR STOPPED WITH NO WARNING ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER THEY FIXED THE CAR TWO DAYS LATER I WAS ON THE SAME HIGHWAY AND THE CLUTCH BURNED UP AGAIN. MY 1999 CHEVY CAVALIER'S FUEL GAUGE JUST STOPPED WORKING OUT OF THE BLUE. IT READS THAT THE FUEL TANK IS FULL AND DOESN'T DROP. WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT THIS HAD OCCURRED UNTIL MY CAR RAN OUT OF FUEL ON A 4-LANE HIGHWAY WHILE SITTING AT STOP LIGHT. WE WERE ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY APPROACHING HIGH-SPEED TRAFFIC MULTIPLE TIMES, AND WE WERE FORCED TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TO GET TO SAFETY. LUCKILY MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE DANGED CAR OFF OF THE ROADWAY/INTERSECTION ONCE A PASSERBY STOPPED BEHIND US AND TURNED HIS HAZARD FLASHERS ON. THE NICE GENTLEMAN ALSO GOT OUT OF HIS VEHICLE AND HELPED MY HUSBAND PUSH THE CAR OFF OF THE ROADWAY. THANK GOD FOR GOOD SAMARITANS! THE FUEL GAUGE NEVER LEAVES "FULL". AFTER TALKING TO A DEALER AND SEVERAL AUTO SHOPS, WE DECIDED IT MADE MORE SENSE TO GO BY THE ODOMETER FROM NOW ON, WHICH IS A GIGANTIC INCONVENIENCE. THE SUB-FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH ALONG WITH THE BRAKE LINE ON THAT SIDE. THE AIR CONDITIONING OVERFLOW TUBE WAS RELEASING WATER ONTO THAT PIECE OF METAL. ALTHOUGH WE DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE IF THIS WAS THE CAUSE THE DRIVERS SIDE IS NOT LIKE THAT. COULD HAVE JUST BEEN CHEAP METAL. ON NOV 30 OF 07 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK AND IT JUST DID NOT FEEL RIGHT. WHEN YOU DRIVE A CAR EVERYDAY YOU NOTICE THESE THINGS BUT CANNOT PUT YOUR FINGER ON IT. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE AND THE SUSPENSION FELT VERY LOOSE THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT FELT LIKE IT WAS NOT TURNING CORRECTLY. THE MORE I DROVE THE WORSE IT GOT. ON THE WAY HOME I DROVE ONLY 20 MILES AN HOUR WITH MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON PRAYING I WOULD GET HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT OR ACCIDENT. IT FELT LIKE THE WHOLE FRONT END WAS GOING TO FALL OFF. MY '99 CHEVROLET CAVALIER (Z24) SUFFERED BRAKE FAILURE IN DEC. OF 2003. THE ROADS WERE ICY--HAD BEEN SNOWING ALL DAY, AND IT WAS STILL SNOWING AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH. I APPLIED THE BRAKES IN AN EASY MANNER, BUT THERE WAS NO BRAKING ACTION. THE CAR CONTINUED AT THE SAME RATE OF SPEED. YOU CAN NOT CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BECAUSE THERE IS NO DIP STICK YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A PROFESSIONAL TO HAVE THAT DONE. THE AIR CONDITIONER COMES ON OFF WHENEVER, WHEN YOU PUT GAS IN THE CAR YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT GAS BEFORE IT WILL STAY RUNNING. I HAVE HAD BEARINGS REPLACED IN BOTH FRONT WHEELS, TIRES KEEP GOING BAD AS DO THE THE BRAKES. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE VERY SAME COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE CARS AND NOT ONE RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. I WILL NEVER NEVER BUY A CHEVROLET AGAIN LET ALONE A MALIBU. MY NEXT CAR WILL BE A HONDA. I AM STILL TAKING THE CAR BACK FOR THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THIS WILL BE THE 4TH TIME IN LESS THAN A WEEK. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN 2005 WHEN SHE MADE A RIGHT TURN AT 15 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A CLICKING NOISE AND BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT WOULD ALLUDE TO THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. WELL, I HAVE A 1999 CHEVROLET CAVALIER, THE BASIC MODEL, NOTHING FANCY. THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF. I WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST THE LIGHT AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. I PURCHASE A USED 1999 CHEVROLET CAVALIER FROM A CHEVROLET DEALER IN HAMILTON NJ. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD A NEW REGULATOR WAS PUT IN. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE QUALITY OF THE REGULATORS, THE DEALER TOLD ME MY COMPLAINT WAS WITH GM AND NOT THEM BECAUSE THEY GET THEIR PARTS FROM GM. HOW CAN THE WINDOW REGULATORS BE "BAD" THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR? BESIDES THE WINDOWS, I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH AUTOMATIC LOCKS NOT WORKING AND THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR NOT CLOSING. #1. AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT INTERMITTENTLY FLASH APPROX ONCE A SECOND, FOR 10 TO 15 SECONDS WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED OR MOVING. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE. THEY DID A SCAN WITH TECH 2 AND FOUND NO CODES SET. THEY SAID THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT GIVEN OTHER REPORTS OF NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT LISTED ON YOUR WEB SITE. #2 IF TURN SIGNAL LEVER IS NOT MOVED TO THE PHYSICAL STOP FOR A FLASH TO PASS, ONLY THE REAR TURN SIGNALS WILL FLASH. THEY FLASH FAST JUST LIKE WHEN ONE BULB IS BURNED OUT. DEALER SAID THIS IS NORMAL. #3 THIS IS THE 2.4L ENGINE. UPON DECCELARATING FROM AT LEAST 2ND GEAR ALMOST TO A STOP AND THEN ACCELERATING, THE TRANS HESITATES SLIGHTLY AND THUMPS INTO GEAR. THEN THE UPSHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR IS NOT A SMOOTH SHIFT BUT VERY HARD. EVEN THOUGH MECHANIC ACKNOWLEDGED EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM DURING A TEST DRIVE WE BOTH MADE TOGETHER, HE STATES HE COULD NOT DUPLICATE COMPLAINT ON THE PAPERWORK. SCAN TEST OK, NO CODES, OK AT THIS TIME. IT SEEMS TO ME, IF THERE IS NO CODES SET IN THE CONTROL MODULE THEN THERE CAN NOT BE A PROBLEM. WHAT DID MECHANICS DO BEFORE CARS HAD COMPUTER CONTROL MODULES? DID THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TO DO SOME WORK TO IDENTIFY WHAT WAS WRONG? BY THE WAY, I AM A COMPUTER ENGINEER AND HAVE BEEN ONE FOR 35 YEARS. I PLAN TO CONTINUE PERSUING THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO OWN A 1998 CAVALIER WITH THE 2.2L ENGINE AND A 1999 BUICK CENTURY WITH THE 3.1L ENGINE. THE 1998 CAVAILER HAS THE SAME TURN SIGNAL PROBLEM BUT NOT THE OTHER 2 PROBLEMS. THE CENTURY HAS NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS.
