COASTING DOWN HILL ON A DIRT ROAD, GOT TO THE BOTTOM AND ENGINE HAD DIED. ROLLED TO A STOP AND WOULD NOT RESTART. TOWED TO A MECHANIC, REPLACED FUEL PUMP. THIS HAPPENED TWICE MORE AND EACH TIME THE FUEL PUMP WAS BAD. THE LAST FUEL PUMP ONLY LASTED 3 MONTHS AND LIKE THE TWO PREVIOUS PUMPS, IT WAS BRAND NEW!! OWNER OBJECTS TO GM'S ASSERTION THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT. VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT NOTICE AND LEFT AUTO OCCUPANTS IN A DANGEROUS POSITION. ENGINE STUMBLED ONCE AND THEN STALLED WHILE DRIVING DOWN SNOW- COVERED ROAD. HAD TO BE PUSHED OUT OF TRAFFIC. ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART. WAS TOWED TO REPAIR FACILITY AND IN-TANK FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK OIL AND BATTERY WARNING LAMPS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE TO TEH CONTACT WITH REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 123,769. AT APPROX. 67K MY FUEL PUMP FAILED. I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A NEW FUEL PUMP, ADHERING TO THE MANUFACTURERS INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS LATER THE NEW PUMP FAILED. THE HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM NOW FOR AT LEAST 10 FUEL PUMPS. THIS INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE NOT CHANGED AND I HAVE HAD THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT POWERS THE PUMP CHECKED OUT AS WELL. IN EACH CONDITION IT WAS A NO START "FAILURE", LEAVING ME STRANDED IN EACH CASE AND COSTING ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN TOWING FEES THAT ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. EVEN THOUGH THE AUTO PARTS STORES HAVE BEEN KIND ENOUGH TO HONOR THE WARRANTY MOST TIMES I HAVE STILL HAD TO PAY FOR AT LEAST 5 OF THE 10 FUEL PUMPS. THAT'S A 1 TO 1 RATIO. I HAVE ALSO READ ABOUT THE CONDITION WITH BRUSHES IN THE MOTOR WEARING OUT. SOME OF THESE PUMPS HAVE PROVIDED 30K MILES OR MORE AND OTHERS NOT 3K MI. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND I FOR ONE WILL NOT BE SHOPPING FOR ANOTHER CHEVY UNTIL THIS PROBLEM ACKNOWLEDGED AND RESOLVED. I AM RESEARCHING MY PURCHASES/EXCHANGES TO VERIFY THE DATES AND WILL REGISTER EACH ONE OF THEM INDIVIDUALLY. *KB

I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 6 AM ON A DECEMBER MORNING IN 2010 WHEN THE 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER I WAS DRIVING CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT TO BE TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD WENT OUT AND IT WOULD COST ROUGHLY $450 TO FIX. CLUSTER OF DASHBOARD INDICATORS (SPEEDOMETER, GAS GUAGE , ENGINE TEMP, RPM) ALL ARE NOT WORKING NOW. THEY WERE GOING OFF AND ON AT TIMES WHEN DRIVING BUT NOW NOTHING WORKS...MY MECHANIC INFORMS ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. NO RECALL FOUND. JULY 2009 IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS STUCK. I HAD IT REPLACED FOR $362.75 AT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. AUGUST 2014 IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS STUCK. I HAD IT REPLACED FOR $488.83 AT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. SEPTEMBER 2015 IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS STUCK, MY KEY CAME OUT OF LOCK AND THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I HAD TO COME OFF OF THE CLUTCH TO PURPOSELY MAKE THE CAR CUT OFF AND HAD TO UNPLUG THE BATTERY. THE 2003 CHEVROLET IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT IT NEEDS TO BE. MY IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER HAS FAILED ME 3 TIMES IN THE PAST 6 YEARS. THANKFULLY, I'M ALIVE AND ABLE TO TELL YOU ALL ABOUT THIS. CHEVROLET & GM KNEW ABOUT THE LOCK CYLINDER RECALL WHEN I HAD MINE REPLACED LAST YEAR.

THE TAIL LIGHT/TURN SIGNAL BURNED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO I REPLACED THE BULB 2 DAYS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT I REPLACED THAT BULB AND SINCE THAT ABOUT EVERY 2 DAYS I BURN ANOTHER BULB I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THINKING IT WAS THE RECALL THEY HAVE ON THE TAIL LIGHT/TURN SIGNAL AND THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED IT THE FIRST TIME AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG THE SECOND TIME THIS WEEK I TOOK IT BACK WITH THE BULB BURNED OUT AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS FOUND I CAN'T GET THEM TO DO THE RECALL WORK BECAUSE THEY SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS BUT I AM PAYING 4.00 A BULB EVERYTIME IT BURNS OUT AND I HAVE DONE THIS FOR 2 MONTHS NOW AND I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO KEEP DOING THIS I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. *TR

THE CAMPAIGN 04083 WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE, BUT IT DIDN'T FIX MY PROBLEM. THE CHEVROLET SERVICE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THEY CHECKED THE SOCKETS, FOUND THAT THEY DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND GREASED ACCORDINGLY, BUT THAT THE TURN SIGNALS ARE INOPERATIVE AT TIMES DUE TO THE FACT THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS BAD & NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO GET THEM TO WORK ALL OF THE TIME. I HAVE ALL OF THE SAME ISSUES THAT THIS CAMPAIGN INDICATED IT WOULD RESOLVE, BUT MY TURN SIGNALS ARE STILL GOING OUT SPORADICALLY, AND IT OCCURS MORE OFTEN IF MY LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON AND IF I PRESS DOWN THE BREAK. I'VE BEEN HAVING TO REPLACE MY BREAK LIGHTS OFTEN AND THIS STARTED OCCURRING THE LAST TIME I HAD MY LEFT BREAK LIGHT REPLACED A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE TURN SIGNAL WORKS AT LEAST THE FIRST TIME I PUT IT ON, BUT THEN WILL NOT FLASHING & STOP MAKING NOISE SHORTLY AFTER BEFORE I'VE EVEN MADE MY TURN. MY DAUGHTERS 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER SUDDENLY DIED ON THE INTERSTATE WITH NO WARNING. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. THE FUEL PUMP IS BAD. IT ONLY HAS 63,000 MILES ON IT. IN RESPONSE TO PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE07033 I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 CHEVY CAVALIER ON 95 SOUTH BOUND, WHEN THE TRAC OFF LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE JERKED AND STALLED A LITTLE BIT. I ATTEMPTED TO CONTINUE DRIVING, HOWEVER NOTICED THE VEHICLE STALLING EVEN MORE. I WAS IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PLACE IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, AND KNEW I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY. MY CAR SHUT OFF AS I WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY VEHICLES GOING 60-70 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD - IN A POSITION WHERE I WAS NOT EVEN ABLE TO EXIT MY VEHICLE FROM THE DRIVER SIDE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS GOING TO COST ME APPROXIMATELY $417. I PURCHASED MY 2003 CAVALIER BRAND NEW WITH 106 MILES ON IT (IT HAD TO BE DRIVEN FROM PITTSBURGH TO HARRISBURG). IN LATE SEPT. OR EARLY OCT. MY CAR BEGAN RATTLING AT STOP LIGHTS. THE DAY AFTER THE RATTLING STARTED, MY CAR STALLED AT MY PLACE OF BUSINESS AND WOULDN'T START AGAIN. A TRIPLE A MECHANIC WAS CALLED AND COULDN'T DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS EXCEPT HE THOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A GARAGE, I WAS TOLD THAT OIL WAS NOT MAKING ITS WAY THROUGH MY ENGINE CAUSING FRICTION AND IN TURN CAUSING MY ENGINE TO EXPAND BREAKING MY TIMING CHAIN AND BASICALLY RENDERING THE ENTIRE ENGINE USELESS. THE MECHANIC ASKED ME IF MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OIL LIGHT WAS LIT ON MY DASHBOARD BECAUSE WITH A PROBLEM WITH THE OIL PUMP, ONE OF THOSE LIGHTS WOULD HAVE LIT UP, WHICH I RESPONDED NO. HE THEN THOUGHT THAT THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING WHICH WAS NOT TRUE BECAUSE WHEN HE TURNED THE KEY, ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIT UP. HE THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT MY OIL LEVELS WERE NORMAL AND THAT MY TIMING CHAIN SHOULD LAST FOR 25+ YEARS. THE MECHANIC WENT ON TO EXPLAIN THAT I SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET BECAUSE HE BELIEVE THAT WITH THE LOW MILEAGE OF MY VEHICLE AND THE RELATIVE NEW-NESS OF THE VEHICLE, THE ONLY CAUSE FOR THIS ISSUE WOULD BE A DEFECT. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET VIA EMAIL AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A RESPONSE IN NO MORE THAN 48 HOURS. MY DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW WILL INITIALLY GO DOWN. WHEN I ATTEMPT TO POWER THE WINDOW UP, IT GOES APPROXIMATELY ONE TO TWO INCHES THEN STOPS. I HAVE TO CONTINUE DRIVING OR LEAVE MY CAR RUNNING UNTIL THE WINDOW IS UP. IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO LEAVE MY CAR IN ANY LOT OR PARKING SPACE WITH THE WINDOW DOWN. GOT NEW TIRES ON CAR AND ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER THE VIBRATION PROBLEM SURFACED AGAIN. SO I TOOK CAR TO A REGULAR BRAKE REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ROTORS WERE INDEED WARPED. SO HAD THE WORK DONE FOR ABOUT 350.00 THIS LASTED FOR AWHILE TILL WARRANTY IS OUT NOW PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN. TO ME IT SEEMS LIKE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT/ OR IT COULD BE THE CHEAP FACTORY WHEELS. ALL OF THESE AUTOS HAS THE CABLE WIRED TO THE SHIFT LEVER. SOME USED A WIRE TIE TO SECURE THE LEVER TO CABLE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WHO RESPONDED TO TOW MY VEHICLE SAID HE SEES THIS PROBLEM "ALL THE TIME". TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER HAD A FLAT TIRE AND WENT TO A TIRE SHOP. BOTH REAR TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE WORN DOWN TO THE METAL. THE AUTO SHOP COULD NOT ALIGN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE REAR AXLE WAS BENT. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF 2007, BOTH REAR TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE REAR AXLE WAS BENT BEYOND THE POINT WHERE IT COULD BE ADJUSTED; THEREFORE, IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE AXLE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE REAR TIRE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,238.

I CALLED CHEVROLET TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THAT I WAS 99% SURE THAT IT HAD FAILED AGAIN (FOR THE 4TH TIME), AND WAS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT (FOR THE 4TH TIME). BECAUSE I HAD THE 'RIGHT UPPER STRUT MOUNT & BEARING' REPLACED 3 PREVIOUS TIMES, I FELT THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF A DEFECTIVE PART AND ALSO HOPED THAT CHEVROLET WOULD PAY FOR THIS REPLACEMENT. IT IS MY OPINION (AND HAVE NOT BEEN PROVEN OTHERWISE BY CHEVROLET OR ANYBODY AT CHEVROLET), THAT THE UPPER STRUT MOUNT IS AN AUTOMOTIVE PART THAT SHOULD AT LEAST LAST 100,000 MILES IF NOT LONGER. THE FUEL GAUGE BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION ABOUT A YEAR AGO. ASSUMING IT WAS JUST THE FLOAT, I DECIDED I WOULD IGNORE IT AND USE THE TRIP ODOMETER TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH GAS I HAD LEFT. UNFORTUNATELY, BECAUSE THE GAS GAUGE WENT WELL PAST FULL, INTO THE REALM OF WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED TWO TANKS OF FULL, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEEDLE COULD NOT MOVE. EVENTUALLY, THE GAS GAUGE NEEDLE WENT PAST THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE (NOW AT WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED TWO AND A HALF TANKS) WHICH FREED THE TEMPERATURE NEEDLE TO ACTUALLY REGISTER. NOW, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS MALFUNCTIONING, RESTING AT THE HALF WAY POINT EVEN AFTER THE CAR SAT ALL NIGHT IN OUR RECENT FRIGID TEMPERATURES. IT NOW RUNS IN THE RED EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE. NOW, THE SPEEDOMETER IS SHOWING SIGNS OF MALFUNCTIONING, AS IT READS 5 MPH THOUGH I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP. DRIVER WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD POP. SUDDENLY THE CAR STARTED SHAKING BACK AND FORTH. DRIVER LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A JERSEY BARRIER WHICH TOTALED THE CAR AND CAUSED INJURIES. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION REVEALED THAT SOMETHING SEEMED TO LET GO IN THE STEERING RACK. COMING HOME FROM MILWAUKEE AT 12:30 AM WITH SON AFTER SEEING RACE IN SLINGER, WI. ON INTERSTATE, CAR LOST COMPLETE ENGINE POWER AND BECAME DEAD. CLOSEST GM DEALERSHIP IN WATERTOWN, WI WENT OUT OF BUSINESS LAST YEAR (PER TOW TRUCK DRIVER). HAD TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A BAD FUEL PUMP AND A PRICE OF OVER $800. ON SEPT 23, 2003 I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT SHOWCASE CHEVROLET WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAVALIER. TALKED TO A SERVICE ADVISOR ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO HANDLE ON GROOVE ROADS. IT FELT LIKE THE BACK-END WAS GOING ONE WAY AND THE FRONT THE OTHER. HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK AT IT, HE STATED THAT THEY PUT MORE AIR IN THE TIRES AND THAT SHOULD DO IT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED AND ASK TO SPEAK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AS THE VEHICLE WAS WORSE. TROY (SVC. MGR.) SAID HE WOULD DRIVE WITH ME. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD AND IT SWERVED AND TROY STATED TO ME HE FELT THE PROBLEM AND WAS HOLDING ON. HE TOLD ME TO TAKE IT BACK AS HE IS NOT SAFE IN IT. I ASKED HIM WHAT HE COULD DO ABOUT THIS AND HE STATED THAT THE VEHICLES WITH 15 INCH TIRES DIDN'T DO THAT AND WE COULD BUY RIMS AND TIRES AND HE FEELS THAT SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ON THE THIRD TRIP TO THE SERVICE DEPT. HE SAID HE COULDN'T HELP WITH THE TIRES AS THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY 15 INCH RIMS AROUND AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM. HE STATED HE COULD NOT WARRANTY THEM OUT AS IT IS AN UPGRADE IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT PUTTING 15 INCH TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I WAS LOOKING AT MY LOCAL NEWS STATION AND A MAN HAD CALLED THE INVESTIGATION TEAM ABOUT CRACKS IN HIS DASHBOARD SO THEY COULD GET IN TOUCH WITH GM ABOUT IT BECAUSE NOTHING WAS BEING DONE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE CRACKS IN MY DASHBOARD AND PART OF IT WAS CRACKED SO BAD IT CAME OUT AND IT IS BIG ENOUGH FOR ME TO SIT AN APPLE IN. THE MAN WHO BROUGHT THE STORY TO ATTENTION WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE CRACKS OVER THE AIRBAG THAT IF IT EVER CAME OUT THAT DEBRIS FROM THE DASHBOARD WOULD FLY EVERYWHERE AND THAT WOULD BE HAZARDOUS TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR. THIS IS A CONCERN TO ME NOW BECAUSE THE CRACKS STARTED OUT SMALL BUT GOT BIGGER OVER TIME. MY CAR HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT WAS RECALLED FOR OTHER GM VEHICLES. THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE, RPM, SPEEDOMETER.... NONE OF MY GAUGES WORK. THEY GAVE THE WRONG READINGS, THE HAND WOULDN'T RETURN TO THEIR STARTING POSITIONS, THEN THE HANDS WENT LOWER THAN THEIR STARTING POSITIONS TO THE POINT THEY ALL DIDN'T WORK ANYMORE. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE GM RECALL LIST FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.

I HAD BEEN READING ABOUT RECENT RECALLS WITH GM, ESPECIALLY IGNITION SWITCHES. I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY CAVALIER AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BAD IGNITION SWITCH. I FIRST NOTICED WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR IN THE MORNING, A DAY AFTER COMING HOME FROM WORK. GOOD THING IT HAPPENED THEN BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED OFF SITE. I WENT TO START THE CAR, NOTHING HAPPENED EXCEPT WIPERS AND RADIO DID NOT WORK AS WELL WHICH I THOUGHT WAS STRANGE. FINALLY THE RADIO AT LEAST CAME ON AT SOME POINT, BUT CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. AFTER IT WAS FIXED THEY SAID THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS BAD AND THE MECHANIC ASKED IF I HAD LOOKED FOR THE RECALL ON IT. I SEARCHED ONLINE BUT DID NOT FIND IT. I KNOW MY CAR IS OLDER, HOWEVER OF ALL THE CARS I EVER OWNED AND I HAD MANY, I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH IGNITION SWITCHES! I THINK I HAD ONE OF THE DEFECTIVE SWITCHES AND WOULD LIKE TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. UNFORTUNATELY I PROBABLY CAN'T GO BACK TO GET THE PHYSICAL IGNITION SWITCH AT THIS POINT, TOO LATE. SPEEDOMETER STICKING AT 80 TO 160 MPH, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR HAS NEVER EVER BEEN DRIVEN AT THOSE SPEEDS, SPEEDOMETER REGISTARS ANWHERE FROM 10MPH TO OVER THE LIMIT OF THE SPEEDOMETER (180MPH) WHEN THE CAR IS SHUT OFF OR STOPPED. THIS STARTED AT 25,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE STARTED REGISTERING OVER THE RED (AND HAS ACTUALLY TOUCHED THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE NEEDLE) APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR LATER STARTED AT 32,000 MILES. AT 39,000 THE GAS GAUGE STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH A PORTABLE GARMIN NUVI GPS SINCE 2008, JUST TO USE THE ESTIMATED SPEED IN THE HOPES I WILL NOT GET A SPEEDING TICKET. THE FIRST TIME I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW MY SPEEDOMETER AT 85 MPH, I INSTINCTIVELY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, AND WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. I WAS ONLY GOING 50 MPH AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED. I NOW HAVE A TEEN DRIVER, AND I CANNOT ALLOW HER TO DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE SHE IS NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO ESTIMATE HER SPEEDS. THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS THAT I AM GOING 60 OR 70 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I AM SITTING AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I AM GOING DOWN THE ROAD IT REGISTERS THAT I AM GOING OVER 120 MILES PER HOUR. THIS IS ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST I AM GOING. NOT TO MENTION THE POTENTIAL FOR SPEEDING TICKETS. I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT GENERAL MOTORS CARES ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY MILES THEY HAVE DRIVEN. THESE GAUGES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE REPLACED AND THEY ARE A SAFETY HAZARD. I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET CAVALIER LS AND ON DEC. 25 WHEN I TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROST BUTTON SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT FROM INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. I COULD NOT GET THE REAR DEFROST TO TURN OFF SO I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND REMOVE THE FUSE TO IT. SHORTLY AFTER THIS INCIDENT THE POWER WINDOWS HAVE STOPPED WORKING AND THE FUSE TO THEM IS STILL GOOD, I REPLACED IT JUST IN CASE BUT THE WINDOWS STILL DO NOT WORK. THE ODOMETER HAS ALSO STOPPED WORKING SO I HAVE HAD TO GUESS MY SPEED. INSTRUMET CLUSTER PROBLEMS FOR A FEW YEARS. FUEL SENDING UNIT HAS BEEN REPLACED AT ABOUT 52,000 MILES AFTER QUITING TWICE WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED OF 55 MPH. DEALER CLAIMED THE CAR QUIT BECAUSE OF A BAD BATTERY THE FIRST TIME AND DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY. IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY. THE FUEL SENDING UNIT INTERMITTENTLY READS WELL BEYOND FULL AND INTERFEARS WITH THE TEMPERATURE GAGE FUNCTION. NOW SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK AT 85 MPH WHILE TURNED OFF. I WAS DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE DOING 67 MPH, I SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AT AN AT GRADE INSECTION TO A ROAD POSTED AT 55 MPH. I COMPLETED THE TURN AND SPED UP. THE SPEEDOMETER READ 58 MPH BUT IT FELT LLIKE I WAS GONG ABOUT 30 MPH. I STOPPED AT ANOTHER INTERSECTION AND THE SPEED DROPPED TO 40 MPH. I MADE THE TURN AND ACELERATED AND THE SPEED WENT TO 110 MPH BUT I WAS NOT GOING NEAR THAT FAST. THE CAR IS IN DRIVEWAY TURNED OFF BUT THE SPEEDOMETER READS 85 MPH. MOST RECENT ISSUE IS STEERING RACK AND K-FRAME RUSTED OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MECHANIC STATED HE NEVER SAW A STEERING RACK RUST OUT OR A K FRAME RUSTED AS BAD AS THE ONE ON THIS VEHICLE. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON, ABS AND TRACK OFF LIGHTS BEGAN TURNING OFF AND ON PERIODICALLY IN MID MAY 2005. THIS DEALER'S TECHINCIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS BAD, AND PROBABLY WAS ON THE 20TH, WHEN THE OTHER DEALER SERVICED IT. AND MORE UPSETTING TO ME, I WAS FURTHER INFORMED THAT THE WHEEL SENSOR DEALER #1 HAD REPLACED WAS STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I NOW HAVE PAID NEARLY $1200.00 IN REPAIR COSTS, AND MY CAR IS STILL MISS FIRING, THE THREE LIGHTS I LISTED ABOVE ARE STILL ON, AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON TOO. I OWN A NEW 2003 CHEVY CAVALIER WITH SEVERAL PROBLEMS. HAD TO REPLACED 2 SPACERS, A STRUT MOUNT, SEVERAL STEERING PARTS AND PART OF THE REAR LIGHT. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT SHE CAN SLIGHTLY ROCK THE STEERING WHEEL FROM SIDE TO SIDE. CHEVROLET REPAIRED THAT. THEN THE KEYLESS ENTRY RANDOMLY STOPPED WORKING, CHEVROLET TOLD ME THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG THE KEYLESS ENTRY STILL DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. THEN THE CAR STARTED TURNING OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. CHEVROLET AGAIN TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM DUE TO NOTHING REGISTERING ON THE COMPUTER. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN AUGUST OF20 03. I IMMEDIATLY HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS REDONE. WITHIN TWO MONTHS I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO HAVE THEM FIXED, THIS TIME AT THE CHEVERLOT DEALER IN PENSACOLA. I'VE OWNED MY 2003 CAVALIER FOR 1 YR. 3 MONTHS. I'M VERY IRRITATED WITH HAVING TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY OTHER MONTH FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I'VE HAD MY CAR IN 7 TIMES TO GET THE TAILLIGHT FIXED. THE FIRST 2 TIMES THE LIGHT BLEW OUT, MY RADIO COMPLETELY WIPED OUT MY PRESET STATIONS. I ALSO HAD MY CAR IN 2 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE THERE WAS A BAD SNOW AND AS I WAS DRIVING 5 MPH I BUMPED OVER A POT HOLE WHICH ENDED UP CRACKING MY SPRING AND STRUT ON THE FRONT PASS. SIDE. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE THE REPAIR WAS $100 LESS THAN MY DEDUCTIBLE. AND I WAS IN THE SERVICE DEPT. A WEEK BEFORE COMPLAINING OF A SQUEAK COMING FROM MY FRONT TIRE THAT THEY PUT OFF AS THE WHEEL COVER.COINCIDENCE?THERE WAS NO REASON THAT THE SPRING AND STRUT SHOULD HAVE CRACKED LIKE THAT! WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS DIM TO A SOFTER SHADE OF LIGHT. I HAVE ALSO CHANGED THE REAR SINGLE LIGHTS IN MY CAR THREE TIMES IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. THIS CAR HAS A BAD BRAKE PROBLEM. THE FRONT OF THE CAR SHAKES VERY BAD WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES WHILE EXITING A HIGHWAY. CITY DRIVING IS NOT AS BAD, BUT WHEN THE BRAKES GET WARMED UP THEY PULSATE WHEN I COME TO A STOP. AT THE END OF THE DAY, I PULL MY CAR INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND THE FIRST THING I SMELL WHEN I GET OUT IS A BURNING SMELL FROM THE BACK BRAKES. NOW THE ROADS ARE DRY AND MY BRAKES ARE STILL PULSATING. I COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING IN MY ORIGINAL PAPERWORK ON MY CAR SHOWING THAT IT HAS THE ABS SYSTEM. NOW MY BRAKES ARE SHOT. THE CAR HAD ONLY 6500 HUNDRED MILES ON IT WHEN I FIRST CALLED IN DECEMBER OF 2003. IN JUNE OF 2003, I BOUGHT THIS CAR AND TEST DROVE IT. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE A GOOD CAR, EXCEPT FOR THE NOISE THAT I HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT LEFT TIRE AREA. IT SOUNDED LIKE A RUBBER BAND WHEN IT SNAPS. THE TIRES SHAKE AND VIBRATE AROUND SIXTY MILES/HR. SO I TOOK THEM TO SAM'S CLUB TO THEIR TIRE CENTER IN DECEMBER OF 2003. THEY ROTATED AND BALANCED THE TIRES. I DROVE THE CAR FOR ONE MONTH, THEN THE TIRES STARTED DOING THE SAME THING OVER AGAIN. ABOUT ONE MONTH LATER, I WENT BACK TO SAM'S CLUB AND THEY BALANCED MY TIRES AGAIN. SO HERE IT IS MARCH OF 2004, THE TIRES ARE DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN SHAKING AND VIBRATING AROUND SIXTY MILES/HR. I CALLED GOODYEAR , THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN. THEY LOOKED AT THE TIRES, AND SAID THAT THE REAR TIRES WERE WORN ON THE INSIDE, AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE TIRES FIXED. THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE SPECIFIC ORIGIN OF THE VIBRATION. BASICALLY, FOR A BRAND NEW CAR, WE SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS AT 24,000 MILES (AS STATED BY MECHANICS FROM GOODYEAR, SAM'S CLUB AND FIRESTONE). 5. CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH- IF RIGHT TURN SIGNAL IS USED WHEN CRUISE CONTROL IS ACTIVATED, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL AUTOMATICALLY DEACTIVATE ITSELF. 6. 1. BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT W/IN MONTH OF EACH OTHER. IN THE MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST. 2. BRAKES NOISY, SEPTEMBER 3. TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN, OCTOBER 4. BRAKES NOISY, AGAIN, NOVEMBER 5. CAR TURNS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AFTER MAKING A COMPLETE STOP AND TRYING TO SPEED UP. FREAKING OUT, I PRESSED THE GAS AND MOVED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THEN PUT CAR IN PARK AND GOT IT TO START, NOVEMBER. I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLE THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED. I BOUGHT A 2003 CAVALIER AND THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH IT LAST WEEK. I NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHO TO TALK TO BEFORE I TAKE ANY FURTHER ACTIONS. MY CAR IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON IT AND I KNOW THAT I'M SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO GET A RENTAL CAR. WELL, HERE'S THE SITUATION LAST WEEK, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND WENT TO MAKE A TURN AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS ON THE WAY TO TAKE IT TO BE LOOKED AT AND IT HAPPPENED AGAIN, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO STOP, THE CAR JUST KEPT GOING AND CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE, THEY OFFERED NO HELP AS FAR AS MY RENTAL AND WARRANTY. I AM ANGRY BECAUSE THIS FLAW WITH THE CAR COULD'VE RESULTED IN MY DEATH.
