MY MOM WAS DRIVING THE CAR AS NORMAL DOWN THE ROAD ONE DAY AND ALL THE GUAGES IN THE ENTIRE DASH SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. SOME CAME BACK ON AND OFF A COUPLE WEEKS. SOME NEVER DID. BUT AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS ALL STOPPED WORKING AND NOW NOTHING WORKS. NO HEAT GUAGE, NO FUEL GUAGE, NO TEMP GUAGE, NO SPEEDOMETER, AND NO FUEL GUAGE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE, ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE, AND TACHOMETER WERE INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

AT OTHER TIMES, IT SEEMS TO BE RUNNING ABOUT THE SPEED LIMIT, WHEN COMPARED WITH OTHER TRAFFIC, THEN RECORD 100+MPH.AT OTHER TIMES, WHEN GOING WITH TRAFFIC, THE GAUGE READS 0MPH THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW IF THE CAR IS OVERHEATING, OR WHAT SPEED THE CAR IS GOING. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS, AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE 'SETTER', AND WOULD COST ME $900. WHICH I DID NOT HAVE. IT IS VERY UPSETTING .

THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE GAUGES IN THE 2005 CHEVROLET CAVALIER CAUSING THEM TO MALFUNCTION OR NOT FUNCTION AT ALL INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE, THE TEMPERATURE OF YOUR ENGINE, OR YOUR SPEED WHEN THE GAUGES FAIL.

2005 CHEVROLET CAVALIER - (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) WHEN CLUTCH PEDAL WAS PRESSED TO CHANGE GEARS WHILE DRIVING, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND STAYED THERE. COULD NO LONGER USE CLUTCH TO CHANGE GEARS. CAR STAYED IN GEAR. PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER HYDRAULIC LINE (HOSE) FAILING DUE TO RUBBING AGAINST A SHARP METAL ELECTRICAL CASE. GM DEALER REPLACED THE PART (#24233064), BUT HAS NOT MODIFIED THE ROUTING OF THE PART. SINCE THE NEW PART IS ROUTED AGAINST THE SAME SHARP METAL PART AND IS RUBBING AGAINST IT, THE FAILURE WILL OCCUR AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. SINCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, THERE FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT UNDER DIFFERENT TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. (IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE LESSENED, IF THE HYDRAULIC HOSE ROUTING WAS ROUTED DIFFERENTLY, OR THE SHARP METAL EDGE WAS SLIGHTLY MODIFIED.) CLUTCH PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THAT DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THE CAR THE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH LINE WAS SEVERED BY A SHARP PIECE OF METAL THAT HOLDS AN ELECTRICAL HOUSING. THE LINE RUNS RIGHT A LONG THE SHARP EDGE OF THE METAL AND RUBS AGAINST IT UNTIL EVENTUALLY IT GETS CUT AND ALL THE FLUID LEAKS OUT AND THE PEDAL HAS NO PRESSURE TO ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE THE CLUTCH, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STAY IN GEAR AND MAKE IT VERY HARD TO CONTROL. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY CAVALIER. IT HAD 49,000 MILES. I NOTICED A SQUEALING SOUND FROM BY BRAKES. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT IN THINKING IT WAS THE BRAKE PADS. WELL, MY WHOLE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS LEAKING. MY BRAKES SYSTEM WAS ALSO WEARING UNEVENLY CAUSING HALF OF THE PARTS TO BE DESTROYED. ONE SIDE OF THE BRAKE PAD WAS NORMAL AND THE OTHER SIDE WAS THIN AS A WIRE. THE GUY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND PROBABLY A RESULT OF A DEFECT IN MY BRAKE SYSTEM. I KNEW OF A FRIEND OF MINE THAT HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM AT 20,000 MILES. I CONTACTED CHEVY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING BUT I TRADED IT IN. THE CAR IS NOW LEAKING AGAIN FOR THE FORTH TIME AND THE CARPETING IS SATURATED UNDER THE FRONT SEATS. IT'S BEEN LEAKING SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. I WANTED TO RETURN THE CAR THE FIRST TIME BUT THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T TAKE IT BACK, SAYING THEY COULD REPAIR IT. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS MODEL BECAUSE OF LEAKING PROBLEMS. SHE PANICKED I THINK AND HIT CLUTCH INSTEAD OF BRAKE. SHE ROLLED INTO THE BACK OF THE SUV AHEAD OF HER AND THE AIRBAGS EXPLODED IN THE CAR. SHE WAS ONLY GOING 4 MILES AN HOUR. NO DAMAGE TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER NO FRONT DAMAGE TO OUR CAR EXCEPT THE AIR BAGS AND BREAKAGE OF FRONT WINDOW. DAUGHTER WAS HIT IN FACE BY AIRBAG AND THE FINGERS CUT WITH WITH THE WINDOW BREAKING. SHE HAS RECEIVED 2 BLACK EYES AND SAID SHE WAS VERY DISORIENTED WHEN THE AIRBAG HIT HER. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS. LAST DECEMBER MY 2005 CAVALIER EXPERIENCED A SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTION WHILE I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS IN AN AREA WHERE THE SPEED ZONE CHANGED FROM 50 MPH TO 65 MPH. THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED MY INCREASE IN SPEED FINE. WHEN I SLOWED DOWN, THE SPEEDOMETER STAYED IN PLACE. OVER THE PAST 7 MONTHS MY DASHBOARD GAUGES (FUEL, TEMP, SPEED, RPM) ALL MALFUNCTION. SOMETIMES THEY RESET THEMSELVES. MOST OF THE TIME I'M NEVER SURE HOW FAST I'M GOING OR HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. MY ENGINE TEMP WILL READ OFF THE CHARTS EVEN ON A COOL MORNING AFTER IT HAS SAT STILL ALL NIGHT. ALTHOUGH THIS STARTED LAST DECEMBER, THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE TO THIS DAY. I SAW THAT MY REVERSE TAIL LIGHTS WERE NOT LIGHTING UP WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS IN A MINOR FENDER BENDER. I TOLD THEM IT WAS NOT EVEN REAR-ENDED AND IT COULD NOT BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY INSISTED IT MIGHT BE AND TO PAY THEM. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT ELECTRICAL SHOP AND THEY CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS A SWITCH BOARD UNDER THE DASH AND IN NO WAY COULD HAVE BEEN HURT DUE TO A MINOR WRECK. I TOLD THE DEALER THIS AND HE STILL REFUSE TO FIX IT UNDER MY WARRANTY. I HAD THE REPAIR DONE AT AN INDEPENDENT SHOP, AND NOW CHEV. I JUST BOUGHT A 2005 CAVALIER FROM A PRIVATE PARTY AND A COUPLE DAYS AFTER I HAD IT I NOTICED THAT MY SPEEDOMETER SAID I WAS GOING 110 MPH WHILE I WAS ON FREEWAY MY HEART DROPPED I IMMEDIATELY LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO REDUCE SPEED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT HOPING THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT DIDN'T. SINCE THEN MY GAS GAUGE AND TEMP GAUGE HAS BEEN READING IMPROPERLY. I HAVE TWO PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE SAFETY RELATED. ONE MORE SO THAN THE OTHER. THE INSTRUMENTS, NONE OF THEM WORK, BUT MOST IMPORTANT IS THE SPEEDOMETER. IT STARTED HANGING UP, THEN FINALLY HUNG ALL THE WAY AT 120 MPH. I HAVE TO USE A GPS TO MAKE SURE OF MY SPEED. GM IS REPLACING OTHER VEHICLES CLUSTERS FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT I HAVE AN IDEA THEY'RE SKIPPING THE CAVALIER FOR THE OTHER REASON OF MY COMPLAINT. THE DASHBOARD IS LITERALLY FALLING APART. DT: 1997 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. SOMETIMES THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT ALLOW THE CONSUMER TO TURN IT TOWARD THE LEFT. THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED AT AN INTERSECTION, WHICH CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO STEER VEHICLE SAFELY TO THE CURB. SHE WAS DRIVING AROUND 20-30 MPH. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN MY CAR UNEXPECTEDLY INCREASED IT'S SPEED TO ABOUT 80-90 MPH. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THE CAR ACCIDENTALLY SOME KIND OF WAY MADE CRUISE CONTROL COME ON. I AM NOT A FAN OF CRUISE CONTROL SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TURNED IT ON. AFTER THE ACCELERATION, I QUICKLY ATTEMPTED TO GET MY CAR BACK DOWN TO NORMAL DRIVING SPEED BECAUSE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND DID NOT WANT TO CRASH WITH ANYONE BY ACCIDENT. TL*THE DRIVER RENTED A 2005 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. THE DRIVER WAS HIT HEAD ON BY AN OUT OF CONTROL 2002 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. BOTH VEHICLES WERE DESTROYED. THERE WERE FOUR FATALITIES AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE HIGHLANDER SPEED INCREASED UP TO 85 MILES PER HOUR AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 TO 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THERE WAS AN UNINTENDED INCREASE IN THE ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE REVVED EXTREMELY HIGH WHICH CAUSED THE ABS, ENGINE, AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. IMMEDIATELY AFTER APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIVING NORMALLY. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER POWER WINDOW MECHANISM ALSO FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE WINDOW MOTOR WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, WHEN THE WINDOW WAS ACTIVATED THE RESPONSE TIME WAS SLOW WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED THE WINDOW SHIELD WIPERS TO MALFUNCTION. THE SPEED ODOMETER AND RPM GAUGES DISPLAYED INACCURATE READINGS WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY EXHIBITING REDUCE ENGINE POWER. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,400.

THE SPEEDOMETER HAS GONE HAYWIRE. IT GETS STUCK AT THE FAR RIGHT END SHOWING OVER 110 MPH WHEN I'M DRIVING ONLY 20 MPH. WHEN COMPLETELY STOPPED, IT WILL SHOW 60 TO 70 MPH AS THE SPEED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED SINCE PURCHASE THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWO TIMES DUE TO THE ROTORS WARPING AND A NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. THE FIRST BRAKE REPLACEMENT WAS AT 3,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. ON MAY 23, 2006 WHILE MAKING TURNS AT 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE. IN AN ATTEMPT TO FREE THE STEERING, THE CONTACT PULLED THE WHEEL SO HARD THAT SOMETHING BROKE WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP THEREFORE, IT IS UNCERTAIN AS TO WHAT REPAIRS ARE NECESSARY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE.
