My Power Steering failed. I was trying to turn into my drive way and I couldn’t turn my steering wheel. Mine and my children's safety were at risk because It could have caused an accident. There are other Chevy cobalts that are recalled for the same problem as mine but for some reason my VIN is showing that my cobalt isn’t recalled for it. There were no warnings other than the dash saying “POWER STEERING” as my steering wheel stopped turning.

The gas lines rusted out and the fuel pump is pooring gas out of it. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago smelled gas hit u set the car it was pouring out. I was going to fix it my self then while looking up the parts I ran across the fact they recalled both parts but not for my vin . What can I do. I'm gonna catch on fire

Gas Line corroded near Driver rear wheel due to design of gas line bracket/shield. A bit of research finds that this is not an uncommon occurence and is solely based on the poor design of the shield. Gas leaks on driveway and smell of raw gasoline promoted the finding of this issue. It required complete replacement of gasl line and a total of over $1,000 in total cost.

The accelerator pedal constantly fails to activate immediately after turning it on. it used to happen on cold or rainy days. It now fails to activate all the time. Took it to an independent service center and they said it could be the wiring due to water getting in the car. My car did have a leak and it was fixed but many months after these issues started occurring. I get a check engine light with a service traction control, service esc, and code p2138 is shown.

The receptacle that holds the brake light gets so hot that it melts and has melted the plastic around it as well. The bulb won’t stay lit because of this therefore the brake and turn signal lights constantly burn out and it could cause an accident due to lack of signaling and could also very easily start a fire. It started about 2-3 years after we bought the car new with just having to just replace the bulbs much too often, yearly, then a couple of times a year, and now the bulbs are not even lasting a month and the components are actually melting.

CAR WOULD NOT TURN KEY OR SOME TIMES START OR GO INTO GEAR. IT IS ALWAYS HIT AND MISS. WITH THIS CAR CAR STILL HAS ONLY 40 SOME THOUSAND MILES ON ENGINE. ALWAYS BROKE DOWN IN DRIVE WAY OR ANY WHERE EVER PARKED. WHEN DRIVING SOMETIMES SEVERAL DIFFERENT LIGHTS ON DASH COMES ON ALL AT ONCE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A REAL PROBLEM FROM 2010.

THE REAR BRAKES CLUNKED AND SQUEAKED. TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN NOVEMBER 2011. THEY REPLACED THE PADS AND TURNED THE ROTORS. SINCE THE CAR WAS TWO MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY THE CHARGE WAS 307.40. WITHIN 30 DAYS THE BRAKES STARTED MAKING THE NOISE AGAIN BUT NOT AS OFTEN OR AS LOUD. THE SOUND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND MORE OFTEN. INSTEAD OF A SQUEAK THERE IS NOW AN EXTREMELY LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN STOPPING, PARTICULARLY WHEN THERE IS MOISTURE PRESENT. THE BRAKE PADS STILL HAVE PLENTY OF MATERIAL ON THEM AND THE ROTORS ARE SMOOTH. THE NOISE IS DEAFENING IN PARKING GARAGES AND CAN EASILY BE HEARD 1/8TH OF A MILE AWAY. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES 4 TIMES AND STILL HAVEN'T REPLACED THE FRONT I GET STOCK PADS AND ROTORS FROM CHEVY DEALER! AND WITHIN 500 MILES THE ROTORS ARE ALL SCORED UP AND LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE 20K ON THEM. I SEE THIS BEING A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT REALIZE IT BECAUSE THEY JUST REPLACED THEM! FIX THIS ISSUE PLEASE! I NOTICED THIS FOR THE 4TH TIME ON DECEMBER 1ST. I WAS BACKING UP AND IT MADE A HORRIBLE SOUND I GOT OUT TO CHECK AND THE REAR PADS ARE ALMOST GONE! When the driver's side window on my 2008 Chevy Cobalt is fully open/down, the "Service air bag" warning light comes on. This seems to be the exact same issue that resulted in a recall on the 2010 model (NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V500000). When I called Chevrolet corporate customer service regarding this, they explained the model years were manufactured the same, and the reason my year did not have a recall could be that there were not enough reported complaints on it. It is very concerning, since as my dealer indicated, the airbag system seems to be disabled when in this condition. I put today's date as the when the incident occurred, but it's been a condition for the last few years.

I was driving alone paying attention in daylight and suddenly I was knocked/startled and vision blocked and I was saying out loud oh God what is going on-what is happeningy/I was trying to figure out where I was - next I heard my car crunching-and still going to where I exited right side of road and turned on drivers side and slid across 2 lane road-hitting a raiseded bed of 2b 3b gravel and turned back up on 4 wheels. The slanted hill next to a small ditch-about5 ft approximately off road. This all happened very quickly. There was no crash until after I was hit by airbag. Severely crashed passenger side windshield shattered/no airbag went off. Police and by standers assuming zi lost control and could see where I was headed. I never mentioned to police how I felt airbag went off. I knew their theory didn't match what I felt happened but after going back to scene my scenario from my memory is the only one I can verify. Not sure now what happens to vehicle now after I get my check today. I wasn't sure where to report. I did mention in text to adjuster but it is my understanding adjuster didn't get text ?? This just needed to be noted.

THE VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AFTER PURCHASE IN 2008. THE POWER WINDOWS BECAME NON OPERABLE, RADIO SPEAKERS STOPPED WORKING, DOOR LOCKS DON'T UNLOCK VIA POWER SWITCH, AC/ HEAT ISSUES (DOESN'T FUNCTION PROPERLY), AND WIRE HARNESSES NEAR SEAT BELT COLUMN (WHERE BELT MEETS FLOOR) BECAME SEVERED FROM SEAT BELT COLUMN MOVEMENT.... THE GAUGES ON THE DASH GO HAYWIRE. A SUBTLE 'DING DING' SOUND IS MADE. THE ENGINE HAS DIFFICULTY ACCELERATING AND WILL ONLY DO SO IN SPURTS. A POWER STEERING WARNING IS DISPLAYED ON THE DASH AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES VERY TIGHT AND IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. CAR WILL GIVE YOU ABOUT A MINUTE, TOPS, TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY. ISSUE HAPPENS RANDOMLY BUT SEEMS TO BE TRIGGERED BY THE CAR DECELERATING INTO FIRST GEAR, AT A STOPLIGHT FOR EXAMPLE. HOWEVER, THIS PAST INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE AND NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION WITH A SEMI. IGNITION 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. DECEMBER 21,2008 CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER. DRIVER WAS KILLED IN A ONE CAR CRASH, WHERE HER AND HER CAR WERE THRU TO THE STREET BELOW ON 6-35 AND HIGH DR. THE CAR WENT AIRBORNE SHE WAS THROWN OUT THE CAR BUT WAS SAVED ENOUGH TO BE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE LATER DIED. THE CAR WAS NOT SO LUCKY IT LANDED AND ROLLED TO A STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BRIDGE, IN WHICH THE CAR WAS SCATTER IN MANY PIECES. THERE WAS PHYSICAL NOT MUCH LEFT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING THE SPEED LIMIT IT WOULD HAVE BY PASSED THE OPENING AND LANDED ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT BECAUSE IT WAS SLOW GOING IT RESULTED IN HER DEATH. THERE WAS A REENACTMENT DONE BUT THE FINDING WERE IN CONCLUSIVE ON HOW SHE DIED. SHE LOST CONTROL AFTER GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY. I CHECKED FOR RECALL ON HER 2008 COBALT AND THERE WERE NONE AT THE TIME OF HER DEATH. HER OLDER SISTER WANT TO KNOW IF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IS NEED TO BE DONE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. WE HAVE SUFFERED A GREAT LOSS. SHE WAS A GOOD DRIVE AND THE CONCLUSION THAT HAS BEEN MADE HAS BEEN NONE. I STARTED MY CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY, IT STARTED AND THEN STALLED IMMEDIATELY AND WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I DIAGNOSED IT ALONG WITH MY FRIEND WHO IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE CAM CHAIN GUIDES BROKE AT LESS THAN 79000 MILES, CAUSING SLACK IN THE CAM CHAIN WHICH CAUSED IT TO JUMP TEETH ON THE INTAKE CAM, THROWING IT OUT OF SYNCHRONIZATION. THIS CAUSED THE INTAKE VALVES TO BE OPEN WHEN THE PISTON REACHED THE TOP OF ITS TRAVEL, WHICH BENT THE VALVES. THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THE 2.2 ENGINES, BUT VERY UNUSUAL FOR SUCH A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE HAS A 100,000 MILE WARRANTY BUT ONLY FOR 5 YEARS. I ONLY DRIVE ON AVERAGE 10,000 MILES A YEAR. THE ENGINE IS WELL BELOW 100,000 MILES AND GM WILL NOT ADMIT THAT THEY HAVE A DESIGN FLAW ON THESE ENGINES AND WILL NOT MAKE THIS REPAIR FOR ME UNDER WARRANTY.

I ENDED UP SPENDING $1334.21 FOR A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND TWO GASKETS. I WAS ALSO OUT $111.26 FOR A RENTAL AS I WAS GOING TO DISNEYLAND AND KNOTT'S BERRY FARM AFTER A STOP TO SAN DIEGO. I HAD TO HAVE THE RENTAL FROM THURSDAY TO SATURDAY OR I WOULD HAVE MISSED TIME AT DISNEYLAND. I PICKED THE DAY FOR KNOTT'S BERRY FARM. ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET, THE 2005-2007 COBALTS IN NEVADA (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND LIVE) ARE AFFECTED BY A CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUE; HOWEVER AFTER CONTACTING CHEVROLET AND ADVISING THEM OF MY ISSUE -- THEY TELL ME (DESPITE THE IDENTICAL ISSUE) -- MY MODEL IS NOT AFFECTED. I AM LOOKING FOR $1445.47 IN COMPENSATION FOR ACTUAL LOSSES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROUTE 20 AT ABOUT 50MPH IT STARTED TO RAIN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" LIGHT WENT ON. I have 2 recalls with the ignition and switch. I went to Regal chevrolet in Lakeland Florida and was told essentially there's nothing they could do and if they did look at it I'd be charged $200 to have it looked at plus $219 a hour based on what needed to be done. I then called Stingray Chevrolet in Plant City Florida and was told that there was no listed recall or it had already been serviced, which on the national website clearly states the opposite, and they refused to even look at it or attempt to fix it, recall or not. My key snapped in the ignition so after being told by 2 chevrolet dealerships essentially "sorry about my luck" I called out a locksmith who extracted the piece of key in ignition and attempted to code several new cut keys. Everything failed. I'm now out almost $500 based off 2 dealerships refusing to assist with a clear recall. I need this fixed and have been without a vehicle for 3 weeks. If somebody could please assist me I'd greatly appreciate it. I feel like it is wrong and somewhat cruel for Chevrolet dealerships to be as they were based off a clearly stated and documented issue.

THEY STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND CAUSING THE "SERVICE AIRBAG" INDICATOR. THEY STATED THE SEAT BELT MY NOT ENGAGE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND SERVICE BULLETIN #270624, ACTION # 10032334 DESCRIBING THE EXACT SYMPTOMS AND ERROR CODES THAT MY VEHICLE HAD. I ADVISED THE DEALERSHIP OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN, THEY STATED THAT SINCE IT WAS NOT A RECALL, THE COST TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR WAS NOT COVERED BY CHEVY. I HAD THE RETRACTOR REPAIRED ON 08-09-2016. I FEEL THAT SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH, CHEVY SHOULD MAKE THIS A RECALL AND REPAIR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES.

ON THE COBALT COUPE THERE IS A SEAT BELT GUIDE ATTACHED TO THE FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSEMBLIES. FOR A TALLER DRIVER THAT SITS WITH THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN A REARWARD POSITION, WHEN LEANING FORWARD THE SEAT BELT CAN BECOME PINCHED BETWEEN THE GUIDE'S OPENING DUE TO THE SLOT BEING ALONG THE HORIZONTAL (SIDE) EDGE OF THE GUIDE. WHEN LEANING FORWARD THIS CAUSES THE BELT TO GET CAUGHT, THEN IF THE DRIVER LEANS BACK INTO THE SEAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE INCHES OF SLACK IN THE UPPER SEAT BELT AND IT WILL NOT PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE DRIVER. A 2008 CHEVY COBALT WAS DRIVEN ABOUT 10 MILES, PARKED, SHUT OFF, THE KEY REMOVED & LOCKED WITH REMOTE. A FEW HOURS LATER THE CAR WAS UNLOCKED WITH REMOTE, THE KEY WAS INSERTED IN THE IGNITION BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN NOR COULD THE GEAR SHIFTER BE MOVED OUT OF PARK. THE CAR WAS STARTED USING THE REMOTE BUT SHUT OFF AFTER THE 10 MINUTE TIME-OUT. TRIED TO CALL ON-STAR BUT NOTICED THE GREEN LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT WORK. HAD TO USE HOME PHONE TO CONTACT THEM. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER THE NEXT DAY. DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED IT. DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR IT W/O COST EVEN THOUGH THERE APPEARS TO BE A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM. AS I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH AND I NOTICED THE ODOR OF GASOLINE. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK FOR THE SOURCE OF THE ODOR AND FOUND FUEL LEAKING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR AND ONTO THE ROAD. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION, AS I COULD NOT STOP THE FUEL FROM CONTINUING TO LEAK. I FOUND THAT THE FUEL SUPPLY LINE BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND ENGINE RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH NEAR THE DRIVER SIDE REAR FENDER WELL, CAUSING THE LEAK. THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION VAPOR LINE WAS RUSTED AND LEAKING AS WELL, RESULTING IN FLAMMABLE FUEL VAPORS ESCAPING.

My speedometer jumps and shows a message of POWER STEERING. It makes my fuel line jump as well. I've recently gotten my starter fixed because my car wouldn't start. My tire warning stays on and my tires are new and set at the right PSI. My ABS comes and goes ALL THE TIME and nothing needs to be fixed. My car jerks really hard when all of this is going on.

I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS RECALL IS A SITUATION TO MAKE LIGHT OF. PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM THIS DEFICIENCY IN THE VEHICLE, AND I WAS NEVER EVEN INFORMED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF MY AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR AND I DO NOT FEEL SECURE KNOWING THAT WITHOUT MY TAKING THE INITIATIVE TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN THAT MY CAR HAD BEEN RECALLED. I ALSO AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THE LISTING ON THE OFFICIAL GM LETTER ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT ALL IGNITION SWITCHES WILL BE REPLACED, WHEN THE POSTED RECALL ON CARS.COM FROM GM STATES A PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION CYLINDER AS WELL. I ALSO FEEL THAT MY AIR BAGS, STEERING AND ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHOULD BE TESTED AND REPLACED IF THERE IS EVEN THE SLIGHTEST CHANCE THAT THEY HAVE BE INEFFECTIVE. I LOSE POWER STEERING IF MY IGNITION SWITCH FAILS, IN ADDITION TO MY AIR BAGS FAILING, FURTHER COMPROMISING MY SAFETY. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THESE DEFECTS ON MY VEHICLE, AS I HAVE NO OTHER FORM OF TRANSPORTATION BACK AND FORTH TO WORK ETC., AND THE LENGTH OF TIME IT IS TAKING FOR IT TO BE REPAIRED. I HAVE A FUEL LEAK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE, IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE. THIS LEAK IS FROM THE FUEL LINES AROUND THE HEAT SHIELD. IT APPEARS THE FUEL LINES ARE CORRODED. I TRIED TO GET A PRICE QUOTE ON PARTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY REQUIRED ME TO TAKE IN IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS, BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL. AFTER $100 THEY TOLD ME IT WASN'T COVERED AND FINALLY QUOTED ME ON THE REPAIR, OVER $1,000. NOT ONLY DO I FEEL THE PARTS WERE FAULTY, I FEEL LIKE I WAS SCAMMED OUT OF AN ADDITIONAL $100 TO CONFIRM WHAT I ALREADY KNEW. THE VEHICLE LEAKS WHEN STATIONARY, IF YOU TURN THE KEY OFF THE FUEL LINES WILL DRAIN ONTO THE GROUND UNTIL THE LINES EMPTY. STARTING THE VEHICLE TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE PUMP TO GET NEW FUEL TO THE ENGINE. WHEN THE ENGINE IS ON THE FUEL WILL CONTINUALLY DRIZZLE OUT. THE LEAK WAS NOT NOTICED UNTIL A MECHANIC POINTED IT OUT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018, BUT HAS NOW GROWN TO A BIG ISSUE. GIVEN THE PROXIMITY OF THE LEAK TO THE EXHAUST I AM CONCERNED THIS COULD BE A MAJOR ISSUE FOR SOMEONE DRIVING IN THE SOUTH, IN THE SUMMER.

TRANSMISSION MODULE FAILURE LEADS TO TEMPORARY POWER STEERING FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 CHEVY COBALT, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STARTED MALFUNCTIONING. THE SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, AND FUEL GAUGE ALL STARTED BOUNCING AROUND ERRATICALLY. THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER STARTED FLASHING "POWER STEERING". THIS ALL TOOK PLACE WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY AY ABOUT 60 MPH. AS I WAS TRYING TO PULL TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE THE POWER STEERING FAILED. I THOUGHT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WENT OUT. AFTER GETTING THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNING IT OFF I CALLED MY MECHANIC. HE TOLD ME HE HEARD OF THIS BEFORE AND TOLD ME TO RESTART THE CAR. I DID AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I DROVE STRAIGHT TO HIS SHOP WHERE HE PLUGGED IN HIS DIAGNOSTIC CHECK COMPUTER. HE TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE TRANSMISSION MODULE AND IS A WELL KNOW PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVY COBALT. I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW AND CLOSED THE DOOR, I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE, I HAVE TO WORK. ANYWAY, I HAD TO CLIMB IN THROUGH EITHER THE OPEN WINDOW OR THE PASSENGER SIDE. I CALLED REEDER CHEVROLET IN KNOXVILLE AND THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD BE SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX POTENTIALLY ONE OF TWO PARTS IN THE VEHICLE. WE LEFT THE YARD AND GOT A QUARTER MILE SOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT WHACKY AND THEN IMMEDIATELY LOST THE POWER STEERING. I HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED BACK IN 2012 AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING AGAIN. I AM SO WORRIED I'M GOING TO GET HURT OR HURT SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE I AM UNABLE TO STEER. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING ON AND NOTICED MY CAR 'STUTTERING' AS FEW MOMENTS AT A TIME. AFTER I PROCEEDED FROM A STOP POSITION AND CONTINUED OFF THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR DASHBOARD BEGAN TO LIGHT UP, ALMOST AS IF IT WAS SHORTENING OUT. START OF THE PROBLEM THE GAUGES WILL GO ERATIC, MY CAR CHIMES A FEW DINGS THEN THEFT LIGHT COMES ON. I DON'T HAVE A THEFT SYSTEM. LS MODEL. ALSO EFFECTS THE TRANSMISSION(AUTOMATIC) CAUSE IT WILL SHIFT HARD AND JERK THE CAR. THE AC ALSO SHUTS OFF DURING THIS ISSUE, IT WILL BLOW AIR BUT IT WON'T BE COLD. EAST BOUND TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND CHP OFFICER HAD TO PARK BEHIND ME WITH HIS LIGHTS TO AVOID ME GETTING HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES, SINCE THERE WAS NO SAFETY LANE TO PULL OVER FOR BROKEN DOWN CARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ONE OTHER PLACE BEFORE BEING TOWED TO PENSKE CHEVROLET, 18605 S STUDEBAKER RD., CERRITOS, CA 90703 THE FOLLOWING DAY. IN SHORT, I TOOK MY CAR BACK 3 DIFFERENT TIMES FROM THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TOWED THERE. THEY WOULD FIX ONE PART AND I WOULD LEAVE AND SHORTLY AFTER THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON AND I WOULD RETURN. THEN THEY STATED IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE AND THEY WOULD "FIX IT". THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON ONCE AGAIN. THE LAST AND FINAL TIME I TOOK MY CAR IN THEY REPLACED YET ANOTHER CAR PART AND IN TOTAL I PAID $500.00 DOLLARS IN FEES, NOT TO MENTION TIME LOSS AT WORK AND GAS THEY USE TO DO "LONG TEST DRIVES". PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE OFF A USED CAR LOT FEB/2015 WITHIN A MONTH OF USE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LINES BROKE. GOT BACK ON THE ROAD, SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE POWER STEERING SENSOR AS WELL. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO BECOME HARDER TO HANDLE. THE DASH MESSAGE SAYS POWER STEERING. AS I WAS EXCELLERATING IN THE ON RAMP OF THE HIGHWAY, THE RPM JUMPED UP TO 6,000 ALL ON ITS OWN AND NOW IT WILL NOT SHIFT GEARS, DOES NOT READ ANY MPH, AND CAN BARELY GO MORE THAN 20MPH. THIS WAS UNEXPECTED AND HAD NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO. ALTHOUGH IT STILL FUNCTIONS (TURNS ON, RUNS, HAS ALL POWER AVAILABLE, HAS REVERSE) IT IS ULTIMATELY DISABLED. ALSO, THE FUEL LINES/ FUEL PUMP FAILED CAUSING A GAS LEAK, MAKING IT A CHALLENGE TO START THE VEHICLE. I HAVE PATCHED THE FUEL LINE AS A TEMPORARY FIX. i own a 5-speed manual transmission which should roll freely while in neutral. after starting engine while on a slight incline in a parking lot, the vehicle would not roll in neutral, as if all brakes were being applied. i thought that by driving the vehicle on the road the brakes would free up, but they did not. i shut the engine off and on a few times but that did not make a difference. i could only move forward at 5-10 mph in first gear to get the vehicle home, which fortunately was just 5 blocks away. something smelled terrible like burning wires or brake pads. even after letting the vehicle sit in my driveway for a few hours it would not free up the brakes which were being applied. then i read a tip on an internet users forum: remove a fuse labeled "ABS2" and voila! it freed up the brakes! i can drive the vehicle normally but obviously without ABS capability. now my 19 yr old grandson, who turned the vehicle over to me because of this issue, states this happened to him on two different occasions *while driving on the road!* imagine having your brakes applied while at full speed: THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH

THE BATTERY OF THIS VEHICLE, AND EVEN NEW ONES FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER, HAVE THE BATTERY INSTALLED IN THE TRUNK FROM THE FACTORY. THERE'S A BRITTLE PLASTIC TUBE THAT VENTS THE TOXIC FUMES GENERATED BY AN OPERATING BATTERY TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. IF THIS TUBE IS DAMAGED/BROKEN, IT ALLOWS FUMES TO ENTER THE TRUNK, AND SEEP INTO THE CABIN. THE FUMES CORRODE YOUR LUNGS, WHICH IN SOME CASES, SUCH AS MINE, LEADS TO HYPOXIA, MEANING THAT THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE IS DIZZY & CONFUSED. MULTIPLE TIMES (NOT ONLY TODAY) MY VEHICLE DID NOT LET ME OPEN THE DOORS, THE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE HAD TOO MUCH GIVE AND DID NOT ALLOW MY PASSENGER TO OPEN THEIR (PASSENGER) DOOR. I HAD TO WALK AROUND THE CAR AND TRY TO OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE, WHICH DID NOT WORK, EITHER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF TRYING I BANGED MY FIST NEXT TO THE LOCK, WHICH ALLOWED THE CAR TO OPEN. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY, BUT IF THERE WERE, IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT OR THE CAR WAS ON FIRE, WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. ANOTHER ISSUE THE CAR IS HAVING IS STEREO PROBLEMS AND SPEAKER MALFUNCTION. DIGITAL DISPLAY WARNING: LOW FUEL (OVER 1/2 TANK OF GAS) POWER STEERING (WHICH STOPPED OPERATING) AND TRANSMISSION SERVICE (TRANSMISSION STOPPED SHIFTING SMOOTHLY). GAUGES (SPEED, FUEL AND TACH) OPERATED ERRATICALLY, NOT AT ALL OR COMBINATION OF THE TWO CONDITIONS. THIS CONDITION STARTED WITH A FEW OF THE LISTED SYMPTOMS WHICH INITIALLY CLEARED THEM SELVES. LATER AS MORE SHOWED AT SAME TIME, I WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THEM OR SOMETIME THEY CLEARED THEMSELVES . THIS HAPPENED OVER A YEARS TIME. WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THE FAULT CODES BUT SYMPTOMS RETURNED WITHIN THE DAY AND WON'T CLEAR. A CHECK OF RECALLS FOUND THAT A RECALL FOR POWER STEERING LOSS AS DESCRIBED WAS ISSUED AND DONE AT APPROX. 49,000 MILES. SEVERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CHECKS WERE FOUND IN MAINTENANCE HISTORY (DONE AFTER POWER STEERING RECALL) AND PREFORMED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE ISSUE DESCRIBE HAS BECOME WORSE OVER TIME AND HAS EFFECTED THE SAFETY OF NOT ONLY THOSE OPERATING THE VEHICLE BUT ANY ONE ELSE ON THE ROAD WHEN THIS PROBLEM MANIFEST ITSELF. I AM THE VERY UNHAPPY DRIVER OF A 2008 CHEVY COBALT WITH 4 RECALL REPAIRS TO DATE. I REPORTED NOTICING PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING, STRUTS AND INTERIOR DASHBOARD LIGHTS AS EARLY AS SEPT 2010, WHILE HAVING ROUTINE SERVICE DONE TO MY COBALT. (THE INTERIOR DASH DIGITAL READ OUT LIGHTS HAVE ALWAYS GIVEN MISINFORMATION AND WOULD DIM ON A REGULAR BASIS.) I'VE RECENTLY BEEN EXPERIENCING THE POWER STEERING TOTALLY GOING OUT ON MY CAR (ONCE ON JUNE 25, 2014 AND AGAIN ON SEPT 4, 2014) WHICH MAKES IT PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER MY CAR. THIS IS A 3 YEAR OLD 2008 GM COBALT WITH LESS THAN 35,000 MILE. I WAS OUT RUNNING ERRANDS 7/18/11. I DROVE IN TO PARKING SPOT AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN MY CAR OFF. THE KEY DID NOT TURN TO TURN THE CAR OFF NOR COULD I REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I DROVE MY CAR TO GM DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE IGNITION CYLINDER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE THE CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND I HAD NO OTHER PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED TWO OTHER CARS, ONE FOR 10 YRS AND ONE FOR 11 YRS NEVER AT ANY TIME DID I HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH GETTING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION OR PROBLEMS TURNING MY CAR OFF. I BOUGHT A NEW 08 COBALT IN SEPT 08. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE TWO STEERING COLUMNS PUT IN, A POWER STEERING PUMP, STABILIZER BARS, FRONT END BUSHINGS AND BEARINGS, AND NOW A RACK PINION (ALONG WITH MULTIPLE OTHER UNRELATED REPAIRS). I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER (RON MARHOFFER STOW OH) AFTER EACH REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING OR SUSPENSION OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD PULL OUT OF MY LANE TO THE LEFT AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I ACTUALLY LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND WENT INTO A DITCH ON ONE OCCASION. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE DEALER KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEREFOR JUST KEEPS THROWING PARTS IN IT. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE STEERING IN MY CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN BECAME HARD TO CONTROL, HARD TO TURN AND YOU HAVE TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AFTER A TURN AND THEN THE CAR JERKS. THIS HAPPENED AFTER MY CAR WAS RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING DEFECTS, AND AFTER THE APPROPRIATE WORK WAS DONE TO REPLACE THE RECALLED PART. I NOW HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY POWER STEERING ( EVEN THOUGH I HAD NO PREVIOUS STEERING DIFFICULTIES PRIOR T RECALL ). 1. BEFORE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2008, I WAS MADE AWARE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR BRAKE WEARING ABNORMALLY. I HAD MADE AT LEAST TWO INQUIRIES TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) BEING RELEASED ON THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME THERE HAD NOT BEEN, BUT I HAD NEITHER EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM UP UNTIL THEN. 2. THE FAILURE OCCURS WITH THE PARKING BRAKE MECHANISM. THE PARKING BRAKE FUNCTIONS BY ENGAGING THE INSIDE BRAKE PAD ON THE REAR BRAKES. THERE IS A RETURN SPRING THAT IS SUPPOSE TO DISENGAGE THE BRAKE PAD WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS RELEASED. THIS SPRING IS FAILING TO DISENGAGE THE INSIDE PAD CAUSING THE PAD TO WEAR ABNORMALLY. THE RESULT IS THAT THE INSIDE PAD WILL WEAR THIN VERY QUICKLY AND EVENTUALLY BEGIN TO DAMAGE THE BRAKE ROTOR. 3. I HAVE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND I WAS DEFERRED TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THERE TO BE A DEFECT AND WILL NOT PERFORM THE REPLACEMENT WORK UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, I WILL BE REPLACING ALL OF THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND INSTALLING A HIGHER TENSION SPRING ON THE PARKING BRAKE RETURN. *TR

The contact's son owns a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact's son stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH, he could smell gasoline inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact’s son stated that once he had parked the vehicle, he saw fuel leaking from underneath the rear driver’s side wheel well. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel line was corroded and needed to be replaced. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE20011 (Fuel System, Other). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, she smelled a fuel odor. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated she veered to the side of the road and exited the vehicle to determine the origin of the odor. The contact stated the odor was coming from outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact stated the failure had been reoccurring and the fuel was leaking underneath the vehicle while the vehicle was running. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V459000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

I HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING PUMP RECALL FIXED TWICE NOW ON MY CAR. LAST TIME WAS OCTOBER OF 2020, AND FINALLY IN JANUARY OF 2021 IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. NORMALLY I CAN DRIVE IT TO WHEREVER WITHOUT TOO MUCH ISSUE, BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE YESTERDAY. I STARTED MY CAR BEFORE LEAVING FOR WORK, GOT IN TO LEAVE AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS ON. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT, AS IT IS MY ONLY FORM OF TRANSPORTATION, AND DID NOT GET FAR. IT JERKED AROUND VIOLENTLY, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THEN BECAME HARD TO STEER. AFTER I LET IT SIT ALL DAY AND TRIED AGAIN, IT STILL WAS ACTING UP AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE WITHOUT EXCESSIVE PRESSURE, EVENTUALLY WOULD NOT EVEN START AFTER THAT TRY. I AM AT A LOSS AND AM FURIOUS AS THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE AFTER BEING FIXED TWICE.

WHEN DRIVING AT A CONSTANT RATE, WITH CONSTANT ACCELERATOR PRESSURE, BETWEEN APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 50 MPH, THE RPMS JUMP/FLUCTUATE CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH AND HESITATE. THIS CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD, PARTICULARLY IN ICY CONDITIONS. THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID THE HESITATION IS TO ACTIVELY ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OWNERS THAT HAVE POSTED AN IDENTICAL ISSUE ON MESSAGE BOARDS AND HAVE STATED THAT THEIR VEHICLES HAD SIMILAR ISSUES THAT WERE REMEDIED BY SIMILAR REPAIR PROCESSES AND THAT CHEVROLET HAS ALTERED THE PROCESS USED TO MAKE REPLACEMENT PARTS AS THE INITIAL PARTS WERE DEFECTIVE. IN ADDITION TO BEING A SAFETY HAZARD, IT IS ALSO AN EXCESSIVE AND COSTLY BURDEN ON VEHICLE OWNERS. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE UNDER 35,000 MILES. IT CANNOT BE DOCUMENTED WITHOUT A VIDEO. THE RPMS JUMPING IS A CONSTANT AND UNRELENTING ISSUE WHEN DRIVING AT A CONSTANT RATE OF SPEED BETWEEN APPROXIMATELY 25-50 MPH.

ISSUE #1) FUEL LEAK FROM TOP OF FUEL TANK. THIS CREATES A STRONG FUEL SMELL IN CABIN DURING ANY OPERATION, AND FUEL LEAKING ON DRIVEWAY AFTER OPERATION. FUMES ARE STRONG ENOUGH THAT ANY OPEN FLAME IN CABIN WOULD DETONATE CREATING DEATH AND/OR CRITICAL INJURY. THE FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE IN AUG 2017 COSTING OVER $600 DOLLARS. ISSUE #2) BOTH INTERIOR FRONT DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN RESULTING IN DOORS BEING UNABLE TO OPEN DOORS NORMALLY. TO OPEN DOORS, WINDOWS MUST BE CRANKED DOWN OPENING DOORS USING THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. THE FAILURE AREA IS WHERE DOOR LATCH CABLE CONNECTS TO REAR OF DOOR HANDLES. BOTH DOOR HANDLES HAVE BEEN REPLACED, BUT REPLACED SERVICE HANDLES HAVE SHARP EDGES FROM PLASTIC FLASH. BOTH ISSUES ARE CRITICAL TO SAFE VEHICLE OPERATION. THIS COULD RESULT IN DEATH AND/OR CRITICAL INJURY IF EITHER ISSUE FAILS DURING ANY VEHICLE OPERATION. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT OF MY JOB AND THE DOORS LOCKS STARTED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING RAPIDLY BY THEMSELVES. AND NOW THEY RARELY EVER DO EITHER WHEN I TRY AND PUSH THE LOCK BUTTONS. SO THEY EITHER HAVE TO STAY LOCKED OR UNLOCKED DEPENDING THE MOOD OF THE CAR. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I HAD A GAS LEAK AND HAD TO HAVE IT SERVICED BECAUSE THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I ASKED TO INSPECT MY VEHICLE TWICE (3/25/11 AND 4/9/11), BUT INSPECTORS SAID THAT MY CAR WAS OK. ON DECEMBER 12, 2011 I PRESENTED A COMPLAINT TO F. H.S. M. V. D. M. S. I NOTICED A SLIGHT TAPPING/RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. THE NOISE ONLY OCCURS BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 50-60 MPH AND ONLY WHEN LETTING OFF THE GAS COMPLETELY. THEN I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL AN IGNITION CYLINDER RECALL. MY CAR HAD PROBLEMS WITH LOCKING UP AND DIFFICULTIES TURNING THE KEY. DROPPED THE CAR BACK OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP MONDAY. A TEST DRIVE AND A LOOK UNDER THE CAR AND THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM, NOISE COMING FROM RACK AND PINION WHILE HITTING BUMPS RACK WORN AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT STEERING COLUMN MAKING NOISE AS WELL RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT WITH OUT REPLACEMENT THE CAR WOULD EVENTUALLY HAVE NO STEERING ABILITY AT ALL: COST $1524 NO WARRANTY. THIS CAR HAS HAD THE POWER STEERING RECALL REPLACEMENT (THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE IN A PARKING LOT DUE TO BROKEN PINION) IN 2010 AND A TRANSMISSION ISSUE (RPM REV WHEN THE CAR HIT 40 WHEN THE GAS WAS NOT BEING APPLIED) THAT WAS A WORN SEAL IT WAS FIXED AND COVERED BY WARRANTY IN 2011. MY 2008 CHEVY COBALT JUST STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS APRIL 2, 2011. I PURCHASED IT ON MARCH 15, 2011. I WENT TO LEAVE WORK AND MY CAR WOULDN'T START. ALL MY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SHUT DOWN ON ME AND MY KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT THE IGNITION. WHEN I TURNED THE SWITCH IT JUST MADE A CLICKING NOISE. IN THE BEGINNING, THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, NOW IT IS NOT, BUT THE PROBLEMS KEEP HAPPENING AND I HAVE HAD IT BACK IN FOR SERVICE MANY, MANY TIMES! ALWAYS FOR THE SAME ISSUES, FRONT END AND BRAKES! YOU WILL SEE WHEN YOU PULL THE SERVICE REPORTS! I CONTACTED GM AND I HAD A WONDERFUL LADY WORKING WITH ME AND SHE SAID SHE WAS PUTTING SOMEONE ON MY ACCT, A GUY CALLED ME SAID THEY ACCEPTED MY ACCT, NOW TODAY HE CALLED AND SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DO THE BUY BACK PROGRAM WITH THE CAR AND JUST TO KEEP SERVICING THE CAR! IM TELLING YOU THEY SERVICE IT AND THEN IN A MATTER OF A SHORT PERIOD, ITS BACK IN THE SERVICE DEPT. IN JULY 2008 WE PURCHASED A NEW CHEVY COBALT SS FROM C.WEAVER CHEVROLET IN YORKVILLE, NY. WE WERE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH A NOISE IN THE REAR AND BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AT 12,400 MILES. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS IN NEED OF REAR BRAKES AND ALSO THAT THE FRONT TIRES WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT.
