My Cobalt 2009 has gas leaking in front of the back driver's side wheel. This has been report it seems by several people online that I have found. Why can not GM cover this repair in a recall? I've tried to call around for pricing but most garage's won't give me a quote over the phone. The best I got was that this would cost around 2000-3000 for replacement. But it seemed like a shot in the dark on the pricing. I called the local dealership near me in Darian Connecticut, and was told that this was not covered under any recall. Corrosion protection coverage expired in 2019 from GMs site. But why would a fuel line be made of a metal that rust and is near the hot exhaust requiring a heatshield on the pipes? Aftermarket repairs seems to be either Braided Stainless Steel around Nylon, or Some Nickel/Copper Piping using compression fittings that plumbers use.

There is a gas leak an after reviewing online there are several complaints of chevy colbalt 09 owners whos car forms a gas leak on the driver side of the car near back seat. There is a very strong smell of gasoline and seems to be a repeated issue

I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 25 - 30 MPH WHEN WITH OUT WARNING MY 2009 CHEVY COBALT BEGAN TO SPIN IN THE MOST VIOLENT SPIN I HAVE EVER BEEN IN A VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WERE NOT STOPPING ME THE REAR OF THE CAR THEN SLID AROUND AND SLAMMED MY CAR INTO A POST OR CHAIN LINK FENCE HITTING IT HARD.THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WAS CREASED DOWN THE WHOLE SIDE, THE FRONT QUARTER PANEL WAS ALL RIPPED UP AND THE FRONT PASSENGER HEADLIGHT WAS COMPLETELY SMASHED AND BROKEN. WHEN THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED MY HAND WAS TWISTED IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE CAR WAS SPINNING AND THE FORCE OF THE CAR HITTING SPRAINED MY BACK. NO AIR BAGS WERE SET OFF AND I WAS BROUGHT TO THE ER BY AMBULANCE. I HAVE BEGUN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY IGNITION SINCE THIS ACCIDENT. HELLO, I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY COBALT. IT WAS RUNNING OKAY. I WENT TO THE STORE FOR SOME DOG FOOD. PARKED THE CAR, CAME BACK TO GO BACK HOME AND THE KEY 🔑 IN THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN. IT WAS LOCKED OR JAMMED, DON'T KNOW. KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION SWITCH TO TURN THE CAR ON!!! I WENT TO THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FROM GENERAL MOTORS ON MY 2009 CHEVY COBALT. I FOUND A NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID# 14V171000 THAT SHOWS THE RECALL FOR MY CAR. IT DESCRIBES AN IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. I CALLED THE CHUCK NASH CHEVROLET WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD REPAIRED THE RECALL. APPARENTLY THEY REPAIRED IT WITH A DEFECTIVE IGNITION-SWITCH OR NOT AT ALL. THE RECALL STATES THAT SOME VEHICLES WERE REPAIRED WITH DEFECTIVE OR USED PARTS. MARY BARRA, GENERAL MOTORS CEO STATED THAT ALL AFFECTED RECALL VEHICLES WOULD BE REPAIRED UP TO CUSTOMER SAFETY STANDARDS. I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER. CONNECTOR FEEDING POWER TO THE A/C-HEATER BLOWER MELTED; CAUSED A CRACKLING SOUND, A SMELL, AND THE FAN TO STOP WORKING. THE CONNECTOR MELTED TOGETHER. TO GET A PICTURE OF THE PIN THAT FAILED REQUIRED ME TO BREAK THE CONNECTOR. POWER WAS PRESENT ON THE BROWN WIRE AS SOON AS THE IGNITION IS ON - THE BLOWER DID NOT NEED TO BE OPERATING TO GENERATE HEAT AT THE CONNECTOR. THE WIRE LEADING TO THE CONNECTOR WAS DISCOLORED FROM THE HEAT.

THE INCREASE OF ELECTRICAL POWER SEEMS TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE METER INCREASING. THERE ARE MANY WIRES THAT WERE UNDER THE SEAT THAT ARE SETTING OFF THE METER WHEN HELD WITHIN 12 INCHES OF IT (IN THE AREA THE DRIVER & PASSENGER WOULD SIT - ON THE SEAT). PERHAPS, A RECALL AND ELECTROMAGNETIC SHIELDING NEEDS TO BE ADDED IN THE AREA WHERE THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVERS SIT.

COMING OUT OF A ROUNDABOUT IN RUSH HOUR WHEN A CAR AHEAD OF HER SUDDENLY STOPPED. SHE HAD ABOUT ONE AND HALF TO TWO CAR LENGTHS AND HER SPEED WAS ABOUT 35 MPH. SHE APPLIED HER BRAKES AND THEY DID NOT RESPOND. HER CAR REAR ENDED ANOTHER CAR. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. SHE HAS A SPRAINED NECK AND BACK. SHE HAS BEEN OFF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS PER DOCTOR'S REQUEST. MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR.

ABOUT THE THIRD TIME THAT I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES WITH IN LESS THAN 30000 MILES. THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD THE CAR. THE PADS WEAR UNEVEN, ONLY THE INTERIOR PAD IS BEING WORN. GM DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO STATE THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR, WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE. AND BRAKING PERFORMANCE IS COMPROMISED BY THIS UNEVEN AND PREMATURE WEAR OF THE REAR BRAKES.

DROVE THE VEHICLE A SHORT DISTANCE APPROX 15 MILES, PARKED AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT. SPENT APPROX 15 MINUTES TRYING TO GET KEY OUT, FINALLY AFTER MUCH WIGGLING AND JIGGLING IT CAME OUT.

I BROUGHT MY 2009 COBALT SS INTO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, 20K MILEAGE CHECK. IT HAS A 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY REAR ROTORS WERE SCORED BADLY POSSIBLY FROM THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BEING ON WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THE SURFACE WAS TOO FAR GONE TO TURN THEM. I'M THE ONLY PERSON THAT DRIVES THE CAR AND I KNOW I DON'T DRIVE WITH THE E-BRAKE ON, NOT EVEN ONCE. HOWEVER, I DO PULL THE E-BRAKE WHEN I PARK MY CAR WITH THE TRANS IN GEAR. LET ME SAY ALSO I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR HARD LIKE RACING OR DRIFTING. I DID PULL THE TIRE AND ROTOR FROM THE LEFT REAR TO FIND THAT THE INNER ROTOR SURFACE WAS INDEED SCORED BADLY WITHIN 3/4-INCH OF THE OUTER ROTOR DIAMETER. THE OUTER ROTOR SURFACE WAS CLEAN AND SMOOTH. THE OUTER BRAKE PAD LOOKED LIKE IT HAD 2X THE MATERIAL LEFT VERSUS THE INNER PAD. I DID NOT PULL THE RIGHT SIDE ROTOR YET. I LAST CHECKED MY BRAKES WHEN I TOOK OFF MY SNOW TIRES IN MARCH WITH 18,000 MILES ON MY CAR. EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE, FRONT AND REAR PADS LOOKED ALMOST NEW WITH PLENTY OF MEAT ON THEM. IN JULY, I NOTICED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE STARTING TO GROOVE, SO I MENTIONED THIS TO THE DEALER WHEN I WENT IN FOR A RECALL AND THEY RESURFACED THEM FOR ME (22,885 MILES). I ASKED ABOUT THE PADS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD LOOKED AT THEM AND THEY WERE FINE AND EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL. IN OCTOBER, I NOTICED THE GROOVING COMING BACK. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY CHARGED ME TO REPLACE THE REAR DISKS AND PADS AT 29,170 MILES (THEY DID THROW IN THE ROTORS FOR FREE DUE TO THE ABNORMAL WEAR). AFTER THE SERVICE, THEY GAVE ME THE OLD REAR PADS AS PER MY REQUEST. UPON RECEIVING THEM, I COULDN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT THE INNER REAR PAD, WHICH HAD BEEN WEARING IDENTICALLY TO THE OUTER REAR PADS WHEN I CHECKED AT 18,000 MILES, WERE WORN ALMOST TO THE BACKING PLATE! THE OUTER PADS STILL HAD 1/4" MATERIAL LEFT, SO IT SEEMED CLEAR THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT. THE DEALER COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THIS WEAR AND STATED THAT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL BESIDES THE BRAKE WEAR. IT SEEMS INCREDIBLE THAT A FRONT-HEAVY, FRONT-DRIVE CAR WOULD WEAR THROUGH ITS INNER REAR BRAKE PADS WHILE ITS FRONT PADS (WHICH DO MOST OF THE BRAKING) AND OUTER REAR PADS STILL HAVE PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT WITHOUT THERE BEING SOME KIND OF PROBLEM. I STILL HAVE THE PADS AND ALSO HAVE PICTURES. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THESE PADS WEAR DOWN SO QUICKLY, I COULD BE PUT IN A SITUATION WHERE I UNEXPECTEDLY HAVE NO E-BRAKE AND COMPROMISED BRAKING ABILITY DESPITE FREQUENT INSPECTIONS. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT GM IS MORE INTERESTED IN SELLING ME PARTS THAN IN DIAGNOSING AND CORRECTING THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN ACCELERATING HARD TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY FROM EXIT OR GOING UP A HILL THE ACCELERATOR GETS SUCK. THE CAR WILL NOT SLOW DOWN WITH OUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. WE JUST PRAY WE CAN GET OVER TO BREAK DOWN LANE WITHOUT HITTING ANYONE. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP CAR IS TO PUT IN NEUTRAL, KEEPING YOUR FOOT ON BRAKE AND PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. ONCE THE CARE IS IN PARK YOU MUST SHUT OFF CAR AND RESTART. IT YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE WITHOUT SHUTTING CAR OFF IT WILLL START RUNNING BY ITSELF AGAIN GOING 65MP IN THE BREAK DOWN LANE. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED IT WAS IN 2009 WITH ONLY 700 MILES ON THE CAR. THE SECOND TIME WAS IN 2014 AND AGAIN SEPTEMBER 2018. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE IT DIDN'T HAPPENED. TOLD ME IT WAS A FREAK OCCURRENCE.PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THE CAR IS A 2009 MODEL WITH ONLY 23,000 MILES ON IT BECAUSE, I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. MY HUSBAND DROVE MY CAR THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. HE WAS ON THE MASS PIKE AND ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK BEFORE I COULD GET THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. WE CALLED GM HEADQUARTERS BECAUSE WE GOT NO WHERE WITH OUR DEALERSHIP IN THE PAST. WATER FROM HVAC SYSTEM LEAKS TO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING. I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE SINCE PURCHASED IN 2009. Wiring harness is located too close to the human under the driver's seat. Exposes the driver to electrical frequencies that could be avoided if the wire harness was a further distance away from the human. Also, the the fuel line rusted through after 9 years about 9 inches away from the rear axle where the metal tape ends around the fuel line. The metal tape seems to allow more moisture to become trapped around the fuel line; which promotes rust and a leak where the metal tap ends. After the metal tape, the fuel line is in good condition on this specific vehicle. The fuel leak is about 0.5 inches wide and a lot of gasoline drips / leaks after the car is started. The rust particles are located after the fuel filter; which may promote the rust particles to reach the engine via the rusted fuel line. The car has trouble starting (a delay) and needs to have the key turned twice due to the leak. The leak is very close to the muffler, so it seems like it would be at risk of catching on fire if the muffler was hot enough or if it were traveling on a long trip or going up or down a steep hill. The vehicle has been inspected by police. There were no warning lamps or lights.

MICHELIN PILOT SPORT A/S PLUS TIRES ARE "CHUNKING" AND HAVE DRY ROT/CRACKING ON THE TREAD. THE TIRES ARE 3 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 20K MILES. THEY HAVE BEEN PROPERLY ROTATED EVERY 6K MILES. MICHELIN WILL NOT ACCEPT A WARRANTY CLAIM, AS THE TIRES WERE INSTALLED BY THE VEHICLE'S PREVIOUS OWNER.

I HAVE HAD 3 INCIDENTS THAT I BELIEVE ARE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FUZION TOURING TIRES ON MY 2009 CHEVY COBALT. THE FIRST WAS A REAR END COLLISION IN EARLY JULY, APPROXIMATELY 5 DAYS AFTER I HAD THE TIRES INSTALLED ON MY CAR. WHEN I NEEDED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP THE FRONT WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE CAR SKIDDED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF MINE, THAT HAD MANAGED TO STOP BEFORE HITTING A CAR THAT HAD SWERVED IN FRONT OF HIM. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON OCT 14, 2011. I WAS GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION DURING A RAINSTORM. THE INTERSECTION HAS A SLIGHT LEFT BEND TO IT. I WAS TRAVELING AT 35-40 MPH WHEN A VAN TRIED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ME. HE WAS WAY TOO CLOSE AND I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD. THE FRONT WHEELS IMMEDIATELY LOCKED UP AND MY CAR ROTATED 90 DEGREES COUNTERCLOCKWISE WITHOUT SLOWING DOWN AT ALL. FORTUNATELY, THE DRIVER OF THE VAN REALIZED THAT HE HAD SCREWED UP AND GOT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION RAPIDLY AND A COLLISION WAS AVOIDED. THEN LAST NIGHT, OCT. 16TH, AGAIN IN THE RAIN, I TRIED TO STOP AT A YELLOW LIGHT ON A SLIGHT DOWNHILL GRADE FROM ABOUT 45 MPH. AGAIN THE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE CAR SKIDDED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 40 MPH. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING SINCE 1973 AND HAVE LOGGED OVER A MILLION MILES. THESE FUZION TOURING TIRES ARE THE MOST DANGEROUS TIRES I HAVE EVER DRIVEN ON, ESPECIALLY ON WET PAVEMENT. I HAVE HAD OTHER TIRES ON MY COBALT AND NEVER HAD ANY SIMILAR INCIDENTS. I AM REPLACING THEM TOMORROW BECAUSE MY LIFE IS WORTH MORE TO ME THAN THE $400 THAT A SET OF TIRES COSTS. DRIVING IN THE RAIN WITH THOSE TIRES IS LIKE DRIVING ON ICE WITH NORMAL TIRES. THESE TIRES ARE POTENTIALLY DEADLY AND I THINK THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY AND THEN SHREDDED. THE MORNING AFTER COMING BACK FROM A TRIP I WENT DOWN TO GET IN MY COLBALT AND FOUND MY LEFT FRONT TIRE FLAT. I GOT MY MANUAL OUT TO READ HOW TO CHANGE THE TIRE AND CHANGED IT. WE NOTICED THE SIZE DIFFERENCE IN THE TIRES RIGHT AWAY, REGULAR TIRE IS P205/55R16 H, THE SPARE IS A T115/70D15 M. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL TIRES THAT CHEVROLET PUT ON THE CAR. THE MANUAL SAID WE COULD GO NORMAL SPEED. I DROVE A BLOCK TO GET THE TIRE FIXED AND TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK HOME. THE CAR DIPPED HORRIBLE AND DRAGGED WHEN I PULLED BACK INTO MY DRIVE WAY. THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT IT IS THE RIGHT SPARE, ALTHOUGH A COUPLE OF THE PEOPLE THAT I HAVE TALKED TO THOUGHT IT WAS BAD TO HAVE A 15 INCH SPARE WITH 16 INCH TIRES. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT WHAT I NEED TO DO IS IF THE FLAT IS ON THE FRONT I'M SUPPOSE TO CHANGE TWO TIRES. THEY TOLD ME TO PUT A BACK TIRE ON THE FRONT AND THE SPARE ON THE BACK, WHICH IS NOT THE DIRECTION IN THE MANUAL. THEY TOLD ME I CAN GO 50 MPH AND GET THE TIRE FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. SO NOW OUT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY THEY WANT ME TO CHANGE TWO TIRES AND HAVE THE BACK OF MY CAR DIP HORRIBLY. I FEEL THIS SPARE IS UNSAFE BECAUSE IT IS SMALLER THEN THE TIRES IT IS REPLACING. IT MAKES THE CAR TILT SO YOU CAN'T DRIVE AT SAFE SPEEDS NOT TO SAY THE DAMAGE YOU CAN DO TO YOUR CAR. The air bag never deployed I bought car in 2018 from original owner with car only having 33,000 miles on it and still under warranty til car had 100,000 miles and I hit a deer head on 2 months after getting car which bought in may of 2018 hit the deer in July 2018 . The deer was hit with the front passenger side it broke my headlight n messed my hood up and smashed in the grill little and my air bags never deployed I hit deer at 50 mph , after that had happened I took it in to Chevy dealership and had them look at car cause I told them I hit that deer and air bag never deployed and that my air bag light came on once in awhile and said service air bag . The dealership said they do that sometimes and did something to make light go off that was it my air vag light still comes on and says service air bag . Also ignition switch and fuel smell foul coming from car a lot and is as I speak . My reduce engine power light comes on a lot and have no power to gas pedal n car won’t stay running . I have try to get two recalls fixed back in 2-21 I was having problems with my car back then too special reach called me in Jan of 2021 and told me that there were two recalls on my car ignition switch and fuel module so I informed dealership when I took my car in That next month in feb 21 told them I was informed on 2 active recalls on my car . When they were done with my car later that day I asked them if they fixed the recalls they said no cause it was map sensor so I then made an appt to get recalls fixed when I got there for the recalls to be fixed one of the technicians told me it shows that they were done . I called Chevy and complained about the issue I just had and never had recalls fixed but they must of put it in computer they fixed them So I’ve been really upset that I been trying to get past recalls fixed that are on my car and I get run around and told there isn’t any I know about a past recall on shift selnoid low circuit too that was a past recal

OEM headlights had become dim and one could no longer be aimed, so I ordered these replacements through Amazon. I paid $92 to have them installed, and the mechanic let me know that the high beams could not be activated, except by holding the turn signal, making it dangerous to steer. In addition, when the headlights are on they create so much RF, the radio no longer gets most AM or FM stations. The mechanic confirmed, they are wired incorrectly, but did not wish to attempt to rewire them.

Additionally, while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact restarted the vehicle. There was an abnormal sulfur and fuel odor detected. The air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the MAP sensor needed to be reset. The mechanic reset the air bag light. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the air bag failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

AS I WAS PULLING INTO THE GARAGE I ALWAYS LOOK TO SEE EXACTLY WHERE I SHOULD STOP. AS I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO PULL UP A LITTLE BIT MORE THE CAR ACCELERATED AND WOULD NOT STOP WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND WENT INTO MY SON'S TOOL BOX AND IF IT WASN'T THERE WOULD OF GONE THROUGH THE DINING ROOM WALL OUT THE OTHER SIDE. My car turned off while I was driving and almost caused me to crash into an 18 wheeler. Thank God I turned on my emergency signal and the truck swerved!. I would of died. I was stuck in the middle of the road and luckily some passersby helped me push it into a commercial parking area. I tried to start it again and it wouldn't start. But, when I turn my key into the off position, my car tried starting by itself. It was scary. It was checked by a mechanic, prior to this happening, because the car was hard to start. The mechanic told me to find out if there is a recall. However, I did some research and there was a recall on the ignition switch and fuel pump. The ignition switch was faulty causing the car to turn off while moving and two people died as a result. I entered the VIN # and it didn't show any recalls.

THE VEHICLE ANTI THEFT LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE VEHICLE JERKS IN DRIVE, HARD TO STOP, WHEEL WILL LOSE POWER STEERING IN DRIVE, AND ALL NEEDLES WILL MOVE. THE RPM, MPH, AND GAS NEEDLE CONTINUES TO FLUCTUATE. THE GAS NEEDLE WILL INDICATE LOW FUEL WHEN FUEL IS PRESENT. I CAN NEVER KNOW WHAT SPEED I'M DOING. THE VEHICLE FLASHES POWER STEERING DIGITALLY. THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF IN MID DRIVE! TAKEN TO MANY MECHANICS INCLUDING DAVE GILL CHEVROLET AND NO ONE FULLY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE!

2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INCIDENTS, WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH STICKING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN THE KEY, INCLUDING THE FIRST DAY SHE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME. OVER THE YEARS, THE SWITCH HAS FAILED, WHICH LEFT HER STRANDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES, BUT THEY NEVER REPLACED ANY COMPONENTS REGARDING THE LOCK CYLINDER OR SWITCH. *JB UPDATED 05/14/14. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO RESPOND. THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUNCTURE THE AIR BAG TO AVOID SUFFOCATION, WHICH CAUSED THE AIR BAG TO EXPLODE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK, NECK, AND EAR INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING YARD AND WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. MY CAR WENT STRAIGHT IN FRONT OF A CAR AND SHE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO STOP SO SHE HIT ME AND WE BOTH WENT ONTO THE ISLAND. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF A NOISE ON DRIVER SIDE NEAR TIRE DURING LOW SPEED WHILE GOING OVER A BUMP. DEALER STATED THE STEERING COLUMN WAS BAD. REPLACED THE PART AT A TOTAL COST OF $874.62. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE STEERING COLUMN LOWER BEARING THAT IS FAILING ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE, WITH SOME INDICATING THEY HAD TO REPLACE THIS PART MULTIPLE TIMES. I FEEL THE PART IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE THE STEERING TO SEIZE AND THE OPERATOR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY TOOK MY COMPLIANT OVER THE PHONE, BUT THEY MOST LIKELY WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIRS UNLESS THEY DETERMINE THE PART IS DEFECTIVE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH APPROX. 43,000 MILES IN 2010, AND PAID FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT DIDN'T TEST ALL FUNCTIONS OF POWER WINDOWS, ONLY THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WORKED . I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS FOR MONTHS BECAUSE I SELDOM HAVE OTHERS IN MY CAR. ON JULY 18TH 2014,THE DRIVERS WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK. The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start and was jumpstarted; however, the auto theft warning light illuminated, and the key could not be removed from the ignition. The contact was able to drive the vehicle however, the locks failed to lock the doors, and there was a clicking sound when the windows failed to roll up or down. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of fuel. The contact stated that the tank was full however, the next day the fuel tank was empty. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 161,595.

The contact stated that after driving to a local store and turning off the vehicle, the contact then returned to the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated while operating the vehicle the check engine light would remain illuminated and the odor of fuel was present inside the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the fuel had leaked from near the rear passenger-side wheel area. The contact discovered that the leak was due to a corroded and damaged fuel line. In addition, it was discovered that the fuel line connecting to the fuel filter was corroded and damaged. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 97,600.

ON THURSDAY OCTOBER 9TH, 2014 I WAS DRIVING EAST ON RT 70. IT BEGAN TO RAIN HEAVILY AT APPROXIMATELY 4:50PM AND I ATTEMPTED TO USE THE BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WERE SUDDENLY VERY STIFF. I DIDN'T THINK THEY WERE WORKING. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND IMMEDIATELY PUT ON MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND TRIED TO MOVE TO THE MIDDLE LANE, TO THE RIGHT LANE SO I COULD GO TO THE SHOULDER. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SWITCH THE LANES, THE POWER STEERING WASN'T WORKING. I MANAGED TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY SO THAT I COULD SWITCH LANES. I WAS TRYING TO TURN MY CAR ON AND I KEPT HEARING A CLICKING NOISE. THE CAR WOULD NOT START NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TRIED TO RESTART IT. SO AS I TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN I WENT FORWARDS TO TURN OUTWARD FROM THE PARKING STALL AROUND THE CEMENT BLOCK BUT THEN THE CAR SHUT OFF AGAIN AND I HIT THE CEMENT BLOCK WHICH LEFT A DENT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR. DRIVING AT ABOUT 35-45 MP, DOWNHILL, I HIT A PARKED CAR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD (NARROW ROAD, CARS PARKED ON BOTH SIDES, 2-WAY STREET). I THOUGHT, "I'M GOING TO DIE". THIS IMPACT MADE THE CAR CONTINUE ON, FASTER AND MORE OUT OF CONTROL, HITTING ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET AND I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY HITTING THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL/BUMPER OF THE COBALT AGAINST THE A PARKED TRUCK TO AVOID DRIVING INTO AN INTERSECTION OR ANY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. NO AIRBAGS EVER DEPLOYED. THE CAR THEN FLIPPED OVER, AND THAT'S HOW THEY FOUND AND RECOVERED ME. I AWOKE HOURS LATER IN SHOCK TRAUMA AT WASHINGTON HOSPITAL CENTER IN DC (WHERE I WORKED AT THE TIME), WITH THE CAR TOTALED AND JUST A SCRATCH ON MY HAND. I JUST HAD ACHES/PAINS, NO BROKEN BONES, BUT HAD TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF WORK. I HAD NO HEALTH INSURANCE AS I WAS A CONTRACTED EMPLOYEE. CAR INSURANCE PAID OFF THE EXPENSE OF VEHICLE. CHEVY COBALT 2009. TWO INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE SAME MODEL BUT DIFFERENT CARS. BOTH RENTED FROM ENTERPRISE. DON'T KNOW WHAT CATEGORY TO PUT THE COMPLAINT IN. STEERING? BRAKING? OR SOMETHING ELSE? THIS MODEL HANDLES TERRIBLY ON WET PAVEMENT. DOESN'T BRAKE WELL ON WET PAVEMENT, AND TIRES SPIN WHEN STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. INCIDENT 1. CHANGING LANES ON I270 MD. GOING ABOUT 50 MPH. AND SLOWED DOWN TO MOVE ONE LANE TO THE RIGHT. GOING FROM A LESS USED WETTER LANE TO LANE TO THE RIGHT, WHICH WASN'T QUITE AS WET. CAR SPUN OUT TWICE AND HIT THE JERSEY WALL TWICE. THEN I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. FAIRLY HEAVY TRAFFIC, AND NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED, THANK GOD. STATE POLICE WERE ON THE SHOULDER FOR TRAFFIC GOING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION ACROSS FROM ME BUT DID NOT COME TO THE CAR. INCIDENT 2. RENTED ANOTHER OF THE SAME MODEL. WHENEVER THE STREET WAS WET, THE CAR DID NOT BRAKE WELL. SEEMED TO BE VERY SHORT PERIODS OF NOT BRAKING. WHEN SLOWLY STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE WHEELS SPUN AND THEN TOOK HOLD. COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN ANOTHER SITUATION FOR SPINNING OUT. ENTERPRISE SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS. INSURANCE COMPANY RAISED MY RATES FROM $103 TO $167 PER MONTH! *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATES THAT THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE. THE MUFFLER FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE GEAR SHIFT WAS BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE GEAR SHIFT WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO FIFTH GEAR. THE WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. ON FEBRUARY 17, 2010, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN PULLING TO THE LEFT WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR THE DRIVER TO MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER OFFERED THE CONTACT $13,500 FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALER FOR ONE MONTH AND ONE WEEK. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 7000.

BRAKE PADS WEAR AT AN EXTRAORDINARY RATE. THEY HAVE ALSO GOUGED THE ROTORS. THIS IS ON A BRAND NEW 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS, LESS THAN 9000 MILES ON THE CAR (PURCHASED IN APRIL). THE BRAKES CONTINUALLY SQUEAK, AND HAVE DONE SO SINCE I PICKED UP THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED IT WAS A "BREAK-IN" PERIOD, BUT CLEARLY IT SHOULDN'T LAST THIS LONG. THE SQUEALING, IN ADDITION TO BEING ANNOYING, MAY POSE A SAFETY RISK DUE TO THE ACCELERATED PACE AT WHICH THEY BRAKE SYSTEM WEARS.
