The transmission shifter lock starts to sporadically not release keeping transmission in park (online many say this is a very common problem for 2005-08s, maybe more years), this could strand someone.

I LOST THE DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT ON MY 2005 CORVETTE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS PROBLEM CREATED THE UNSAFE CONDITION AND TRIGGERED THE HIGH BEAM WHICH OBSCURE INCOMING VEHICLE AND WAS A SAFETY RISK.

WHEN THE CAR IS COMPLETELY WARMED UP AND I'M DRIVING ABOUT 10 MINUTES FURTHER. FIRST THE DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS GO OUT. THEN THE TURN SIGNALS IN FRONT DON'T WORK. THEN THE HIGH BEAMS DON'T WORK. ALL WORK WHILE THE CAR IS COLD. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY THE HIGH BEAMS WENT OUT. I WAS IN A PANIC AND QUICKLY SWITCHED ON THE FOG LIGHTS. I COULD NOT GET THE HEADLIGHT TO TURN BACK ON. ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY LOW BEAMS. AFTER THE CAR WARMED UP THE LOW BEAMS WOULD SUDDENLY TURN OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A SAFETY RECALL ITEM AND THEY FIXED IT WITH A JUMPER CABLE.

Vehicle has open recall 09v491 for roof panel separation. The roof on the vehicle has separated and come apart in pieces leaving the front seal exposed. Gengras Chevrolet in Ct has ordered and received the replacement panel which has now been sitting at their dealership for approximately 2.5 weeks because they refuse to send it to paint until they rectify the outdated paint supply reimbursement cost with GM. In the meantime I have not had a spot for the vehicle inside and if I dont know its going to rain or dont get the car inside somewhere in time the water leaks down the windshield post and into the body control module. Currently the car drains the battery, gauges intermittently do not work as well as the power windows, starter button etc. from a recent pop up storm. Ive been back and forth with the dealer and spoke to a GM rep, niehter of which have proven useful in the situation. I just keep getting pushed off and told that I have to wait for them to figure it out with GM, even though it could potentially take 2 or more weeks to paint the top once the body shop actually gets it. This whole process has started approximately August 1st.

ON-GOING ISSUE WITH THE CORVETTE'S AND GM'S ACTIVE HANDLING. THIS CAR HAS HAD THE PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE. WHILE STEERING AND MAKING A LANE CHANGE ON A CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE'S ACTIVE HANDLING KICKED IN LOCKING UP MY FRONT BRAKES. IT VEERED ME TO THE LEFT AND IN TO THE OTHER LANE. ESPECIALLY HAZARDOUS IF YOU'RE NOT EXPECTING IT AND DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT, AS THIS TIME I WAS NOT EXPECTING IT TO HAPPEN. TYPICALLY TENDS TO HAPPEN AT LOWER SPEEDS AROUND 35 MPH WHILE MAKING SOME STEERING MOVEMENT LIKE LANE CHANGES.

THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR WILL IMMEDIATELY LOCK AND RELEASE THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. ITS SPOOKY BECAUSE IF YOU'RE NOT HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTLY THE CAR WILL PULL SHARPLY TO THAT DIRECTION.

THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRIC STABILITY CONTROL. AT SPEED ON THE FREEWAY A WARNING SOUND OCCURS AND THE CAR SWERVES AND SOME OF THE BRAKES COME ON AND NO BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. GM ISSUED A TECH BULLETIN 06-02-35-002B. CURRENT INVESTIGATION #EA09-002. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE HERE CAUSE AS THESE CARS AGE THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE TO GROW

2005 Corvette coupe, manual trans, Z51. Intermittent problem: Electronic steering column will not unlock when attempting to start or will not lock on shutdown. Vehicle inoperable, sometimes in potentially hazardous situations e.g., late night in parking lot, and compromised anti-theft feature. Possibly relevant: When parked but steering failed to lock, continuous battery draw is 4 amps, which might contribute to the "dead battery syndrome" that 2005 M6 Corvettes are known for. Hard to separate the two issues since either way the starter will not engage. Problem has existed since new (2005) but has gotten progressively worse. GM nonresponsive to multiple owner complaints. Aftermarket "Column Lock Bypass" work-arounds have been sold for this problem, but they are potentially dangerous since they simply spoof the BCM into thinking that the lock is fully released when it is simply unpowered and can easily move into a partially locked position with vibration and time. This is what I recently observed that motivated this safety complaint. GM finally issued a recall in 2018 (13 years after MY) for this problem, but for some reason did not include manual transmission cars in the recall, possible because production was small compared with automatics. But from internet forums, it is clear that this problem affects all 2005 M6 Corvettes.

THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 26000 MILES. THE LIGHT IS ON BOTH WHEN THE CAR IS SITTING STILL IN PARK AND WHEN IT IS BEING DRIVEN. DO I HAVE AIRBAG PROTECTION WHEN THIS OCCURS ? THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT IF THE LIGHT IS ON THE AIRBAGS MAY DEPLOY FOR NO REASON. VERY UNSAFE IF CAR IS BEING DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CORVETTE OWNERS NEED TO BE MADE AWARE OF THE RISKS INVOLVED IN DRIVING THIS CAR.

VEHICLE OFTEN STUCK IN PARK ( AUTOMATIC ), WILL NOT MOVE TO OTHER GEARS. KNOWN ISSUE WITH BRAKE SOLENOID ( PART OF SHIFTER IN 2005 MODEL ). IT IS UNRELIABLE AND ALLOWS FOR DANGEROUS SITUATIONS - WOULD NOT MOVE DESPITE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS AFTER SITTING ON A HIGHWAY DUE TO AN ACCIDENT TRAFFIC JAM. The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the headlights were flickering and then became inoperable. The fuse box was melted. There was smoke detected from underneath the hood. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V251000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting). The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and informed the contact that the part was no longer produced. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

MAY OF 2014, A GM RECALL # 13146 WAS ASSIGNED TO THE PROBLEM WITH A COMMITMENT FROM GM THAT THE UNDERHOOD BUSSING ELECTRIC CENTER (UBEC) WOULD BE MODIFIED FOR VEHICLE OWNERS AT NO COST (SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V251000). I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET A FEW TIMES SINCE THEN, THE LAST CONTACT BEING YESTERDAY (10/29/14). I WAS ISSUED A CASE NUMBER BY CHEVROLET/GM (NOT INCLUDED IN THIS DESCRIPTION AS IT COULD LEAD TO PERSONAL INFORMATION). DESPITE BEING AWARE OF THE NEED TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, I WAS INFORMED 10/29/14 THAT CHEVROLET/GM STILL HAS NOT PROVIDED THE RE-WORKED UBEC FOR REPLACEMENT. LACK OF LOW-BEAMS IS A REAL PROBLEM AS I AM UNABLE TO KNOWINGLY DRIVE AT NIGHT DUE TO LACK OF SUFFICIENT ILLUMINATION WHEN USING ONLY THE FOG LIGHTS, OR OVER-ILLUMINATION USING JUST THE HIGH BEAMS (THIS CAUSES OTHER VEHICLES TO "FLASH" ME TO LET ME KNOW MY BRIGHTS ARE ON). OCCASIONALLY, I WILL BE CAUGHT AFTER SUNDOWN AND FORCED TO DRIVE WITH EITHER ONLY FOG LIGHTS OR HIGH BEAMS. I bought this2005 corvette 3months and when i park it in the garage it fills up with gas fumes and could spark a fire.I have investigated this problem and its related to the gas tanks plastic parts.

Fuel tank has a leak and the unburned fuel sits on top of the tank. The whole inside of the cabin smells strong of fuel and goes away about five minutes after driving. The unburned fuel and the smell only happen when the vehicle is parked and turned off. I have called the dealership about this issue multiple times and am still waiting for a call back to see what can be done. It has been about one month and still haven't received anything back. With the unburned fuel sitting on the top of the tank, while driving it could spill onto the exhaust pipes and cause a fire. There has been no warning lights of any kind that would have told me that something was wrong.

WHEN ADDING MORE THAN HALF A TANK OF GAS, THE CAR WILL HAVE GAS FUMES COMING OUT FROM THE DRIVER SIDE, SOMETIMES I CAN SEE GAS DROPLETS COMING DOWN FROM THE BOLT HOLDING ON THE DRIVER SIDE GAS TANK COVER. VEHICLE HAS A VERY STRONG GASOLINE SMELL FOLLOWING REFUELING. THE GASOLINE VAPORS INVADE THE PASSENGER CABIN TO THE EXTENT THE WINDOWS HAVE TO BE DOWN FOR VENTILATION. IT REMAINS THAT WAY UNTIL THE FUEL TANK REACHES HALF FULL, AND DISAPPEARS AS THE TANK REACHES 1/4 FULL. NOW I ONLY FIL THE TANK TO 1/2 FULL TO MINIMIZE THE VAPOR. I AM CONCERNED THAT A SPARK MAY IGNITE THE VAPOR IF THE TANK WERE FILLED . I HAVE HEARD THIS CONDITION EXISTS ON THIS MODEL AND AM WONDERING WHY IT HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED, OR IF IS HAS PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION CONCERNING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM.

2005 CORVETTE, 45,224 MILES. SQUEAKING NOISE FROM ENGINE ACCESSORY DRIVE BELTS, CLUNKING/ KNOCKING NOISE AT LOWER FRONT OF ENGINE. FOUND CRANKSHAFT BALANCER RETAINING BOLT BACKED OUT, CRANKSHAFT BALANCER MOVING FORWARD. HAD THIS BOLT COME OUT FURTHER, IT WOULD HAVE DAMAGED THE STEERING RACK, ACCESSORY BELTS COMING OFF, LOSS OF POWER STEERING, ELECTRICAL, BRAKING. THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN BY GM/CHEVROLET, TSB 05-06-01-001D. VEHICLE WAS FLAT BED TOWED TO DEALER, THEY DENIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BOLT, IT JUST NEEDED NEW BELTS. AFTER THREATENING THE DEALER & GM WITH A LAWSUIT IF THE PULLEY CAME OFF AND RESULTED IN PROPERTY DAMAGE OR BODILY INJURY, THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PULLEY WITH THE UPGRADED ONE & A NEW BOLT PER THE TSB, BUT AT CUSTOMER EXPENSE. REPAIRS COMPLETED 2/10/2010. Sometimes (intermittently), when I push the start button to start the car, it just makes a "click" sound, the car does not start and the steering wheel will lock and all other functions of the car will be disabled. "CHECK COLUM LOCK" will be displayed on the screen. I have to take a battery cable off to reset the software before I can once again start and drive the car.

INTERMITTENTLY, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE HUNDREDS (THOUSANDS?) OF PEOPLE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE ON CORVETTE FORUMS. VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. MANY PEOPLE REPORT PAYING OVER $700 TO REPLACE THE IGNITION LOCK SOLENOID SWITCH. APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY DESIGN IN THE PART TO HAVE THIS MANY PEOPLE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT ROUGHLY 10MPH, MY CAR JAMMED ON THE FRONT LEFT, THEN BOTH FRONT BRAKES, BRINGING ME TO A SUDDEN STOP. ACTIVE HANDLING WAS SHOWING IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CLUSTER JUST LIKE WHEN YOUR CAR LOSES TRACTION FOR ANY REASON... I THOUGHT THIS WAS VERY ODD AS IT WASN'T RAINING, NO SAND OR FLUIDS WERE PRESENT ON THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME, AND I WAS BARELY TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I THEN CHECKED TO SEE IF I HAD RUN SOMETHING OVER OR IF ANYTHING WAS JAMMED IN THE WHEELS/BRAKES.... NOTHING VISIBLE. I GET BACK IN, REVERSE JUST FINE, BUT AS SOON AS I SHIFT BACK TO FIRST AND ATTEMPT FORWARD MOTION BOOM IT JAMS THE BRAKES ON AGAIN. I THEN RE-CLUTCHED, TRIED AGAIN WITH A LITTLE MORE GAS, THINKING MAYBE I DO HAVE SOMETHING STUCK UNDER THE CAR.... NOPE, IT STILL BRINGS ME TO A STOP IMMEDIATELY. I THEN FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL AND CALLED THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS RECALL FOR ACTIVE HANDLING HAD BEEN COMPLETED IN 2010. I ASKED THEM TO PLEASE VERIFY THIS AS I HAD A HEADLIGHT RECALL TO DO ANYWAYS AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. LONG STORY SHORT... THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME THAT THE PREVIOUS REPAIR HAD FAILED AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE DONE AGAIN. HE THEN TELLS ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO FIX MY CAR BECAUSE THEY ALREADY REPAIRED IT BACK IN 2010 AND THAT IT WOULD BE UP TO ME TO COVER THE COST. FIRST OCCURRANCE WAS A MONTH OR TWO AGO. WE WERE EXITING A PARKING LOTAT ABOUT 5MPH WHEN THE CAR'S ACTIVE HANDLING LOCKED THE RIGHT SIDE BRAKES TO WHERE I COULD NOT KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WITHOUT A HEAVY THROTTLE TO OVERCOME THE BRAKES. SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING ICON LIT. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR DOWN FOR A MINUTE THEN RESTART TO CLEAR THE BRAKES. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, ALMOST IDENTICALLY. THE CAR WAS CHECKED BY THE DEALER BUT THERE WERE NO STORED CODES FOR THEM TO FOLLOW UP ON. APPARENTLY THE "MECHANICS" CANNOT PHYSICALLY INSPECT CARS ANYMORE. RECENTLY AND AFTER THE DEALER SERVICED THE CAR, IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WITH MY WIFE DRIVING. IT IS BACK AT THE DEALER AS WE SPEAK. WE ARE BOTH BEGINNING TO BE WORRIED ABOUT OUR SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHER MOTORISTS.

STILL SHOWING THE SAME MESSAGE AND STILL NOT DRIVING CORRECTLY. I THEN SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED. BACK TO NORMAL DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 68 MPH IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND COLD. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AND DID NOT HIT ANY BUMPS IN THE ROAD WHEN SUDDENLY I FELT THE STEERING PULLING MY CAR ABOUT 1/4 TURN TO THE LEFT AND ABOUT A 1/2 TURN TO THE RIGHT AND BRAKES WERE APPLIED, NOT BY ME. I THEN HEARD A CHIMING NOISE AND SAW AN ERROR CODE ON MY DASH SAYING "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM". I GAINED CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND EXITED THE HIGHWAY. I READ ON MANY FORUMS THAT OTHER C6 OWNERS, ESPECIALLY YEARS '05-'06 HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AND THAT THE DEFECT MAY LIE IN THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR CONNECTOR. INITIALLY CAR WAS INTERMITTENTLY NOT STARTING. DIC INDICATOR STATED STEERING WHEEL WAS "LOCKED". ON MARCH 11, 2011, I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. UPON MY RESEARCH 1997-2004 MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. MODELS 2006-2010 THE FEATURE - "STEERING COLUMN LOCK" WAS NOT INSTALLED ON THE CARS. WHEN I MOVED FROM CENTER TO LEFT I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 45 AND 50 MPH WHEN THE REAR OF THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIDE OUT OF CONTROL. WHEN I BUT DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY AS THE ROADS WHERE DRY AND CLEAR. AS I TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND AND CONTINUED TO SLIDE COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL 180 DEGREE AND SLID SIDEWAYS INTO A WALL OF PLOWED ICE AND SNOW IN THE LEFT SHOULDER AND FLIP ON ITS ROOF. I left my driveway and got two miles up the road and with no warning lights or anything dashboard went dark and suddenly car put itself into assesory mode and car just stopped while driving. I was probably going 15 mph and luckily no one was behind me. The dash said to "shift into park" so I did then I started by pushing start button and it started right up with no problem. I can't get anyone to service vehicle because they said it is not reading any code from check engine light ect. So all I can do is hope it doesn't do this again. Scary.

UPON TAKING MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE IT WAS DISCOVERED BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE BOLT HOLDING THE HARMONIC BALANCER IN PLACE HAD BACKED ITSELF OUT. I FEEL IT IS A QUALITY/SAFETY CONCERN ON GENERAL MOTORS' PART AS THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STOP ABRUPT AT TIMES AT ANY SPEED. CAR SPUN THE BACK TIRES WHEN MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN IN FRONT OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WAS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND CORRECTED THE CAR AT THE SAME TIME THE ACTIVE HANDING APPLIED THE FRONT BRAKES TO LOCKUP AND WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. I MESSED WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS & THEY DISENGAGES & I WENT ABOUT 200 FEET GOING STRAIGHT & THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE APPLIED TO LOCKUP & THE SAME THING I HAD TO MESS WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL & IT RELEASED. I NEVER SHUT THE CAR OFF & AS I RESUMED DRIVING I COULD FEEL THE STEERING WAS NOT RIGHT IT FELT LIKE THE VARIABLE ASSIST STEERING THOUGH THE CAR WAS GOING WAY FAST (THE STEERING WAS WAY TO HEAVY). This lead to an injury accident which totaled the car. I have documentation stating that the recall was fixed, but after I moved to Germany with the Army, the recall regularly activated the active handling when not needed (e.g parking) but then when we started slipping, the active handling did not engage and we crashed, totaling the car. The airbags did not engage even though the car played pinball on both sides of the autobahn. If we were going any faster, we would have died.

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE. ON NOVEMBER 27 2004 THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT LET THEM GET INTO THE CAR AND THE ALARM WOULD NOT GO OFF. ALSO, THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR WOULD TELL THEM THAT THERE WAS NO TIRE PRESSURE AND THE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE AND THE COMPUTER STATED THERE WAS NO PSI. THEY HAD TO CLIMB INTO THE HATCH TO OPEN THE DOOR BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN WITH THE KEY. ON APRIL 5, 2005 THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY AND IT DID CORRECT THE PROBLEM UNTIL APRIL 12,2005 AT THAT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED BASICALLY IT WAS THE BATTERY AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM AGAIN THIS TIME. AROUND JULY 3RD OR 4TH WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY AND IT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY STOP BECAUSE IT WOULD COME OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL, THE COMPUTER WOULD GIVE THEM STRANGE ERROR MESSAGES. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2005 CORVETTE ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AT ABOUT 50 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SHOT OFF TO THE LEFT LANE TOWARDS ANOTHER VEHICLE. SHE LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND RETURNED ACROSS THE TWO LANE ROAD HITTING THE CURB, WHICH WAS ABOUT 6" TALL, THE CAR THEN LEFT THE GROUND AND MADE CONTACT WITH A GUARD RAIL THAT WAS TWO RAILS HIGH. THE IMPACT ON THE GUARD RAIL WAS AT THE TOP ABOUT 3' FROM THE GROUND. BEHIND THE GUARD RAIL IS A 75' DROP TO A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. THE CAR THEN CAME BACK ACROSS THE ROAD AND STOPPED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TRAFFIC. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE NOW STANDS AT $20,000.00. I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20MPH LEAVING MY HOUSE WHEN THE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH ABS LIGHTS. MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS AND IN FIRST GEAR. PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT I EXPERIENCED THE SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT WOULD COME ON MAYBE A HANDFUL OF TIMES A MONTH. MY SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT CAME ON 11/13/09.ON 11/14/09 I WAS TRAVELING ACROSS A BRIDGE AT 55 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY BRAKES AND STEERING LOCKED UP. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I EVENTUALLY SLID TO A STOP CAUSING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME TO SWERVE INTO THE NEXT LANE. I COULD BARELY GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RELEASE. THIS IS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE WITH 33,000 MILES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING SENSOR INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE WIRES NEEDED TO BE CHECKED AND RE TIGHTENED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SEVERE OR EVEN FATAL IF NOT FOR THE TIME OF DAY AND THE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC. I COULD NOT BELIEVE SOMETHING SO DANGEROUS WAS NOT RECALLED. FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE MONTHS, MY 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE DECIDED TO LOCK ME OUT AGAIN ON ITS OWN. THE "SMART KEY" SYSTEM, WHICH IS SUPPOSE TO LOCK THE DOORS WHEN THE KEYS ARE OUT OF THE CAR AND UNLOCKS WHEN THE KEYS ARE IN THE CAR. WELL IT FREAKS OUT WHEN THERE ARE TWO KEYS IN THERE. ON JUNE 22, 2005 WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED MY '05 COVETTE LOST ITS SERPENTINE BELT CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE PWER STEERING, ENGINE OIL AND COOLENT. WITH THE LOSS OR STEERING THE CAR BECAME HARD TO STEER AND MANUVER. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN KNOW BY CHEVROLET THAT A SPECIFIC BOLT WAS NOT PLACED CORRECTLY DURING MANUFACTURING AND CAUSES THE LOSS OF THE SERPENTINE BELT. THIS WAS A SCARY EVENT TO LOSE STEERING AT 60MPH WITH A PASSENGER DURING THE ENDING OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON HWY114 AT 6PM. THE REPAIR IS TAKING PLACE NOW INVOLVING A NEW DIAMOND WASHER AND PROPER TORQUING OF THE BOLT. POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE MAY HAVE OCCURED AND THE RELIABILITY OF THE VEHICLE IS NOW IN QUESTION. WHEN THAT HAPPENS THE CAR LOOSES POWER STEERING AND THE REST OF THE FUNCTIONS RUN OFF THE BELTS. THE BELT AND PULLEY CAN ALSO CAUSE OTHER DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD. PRODUCTION NUBER CORVETTES FROM OVER THREE THOUSAND TO OVER ELEVEN THOUSAND ARE IN THE GROUP IDENTIFIED AS PROBLEMATIC. CHEVROLET HAS REALEASE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, TSB NUMBER (05-06-01-001A), BUT SAYS IT CAN NOT HELP BUYERS UNTIL AFTER A FAILURE. I OWN A CORVETTE IN THAT GROUP, AND I FEAR THAT I CAN'T TRUST THE CAR TO PERFORM SAFELY. I BELONG TO SEVERAL CORVETTE RELATED INTERNET FORUMS, AND I GET REPORTS OF NEW FAILURES EVERY DAY. THERE ARE DOZENS OF FAILURES REPORTED BY MEMBERS OF JUST ONE FORUM. THE FAILURES HAVE BEEN OCCURRING SINCE NOVEMBER, 2004. The active handling applies itself with normal non aggressive driving. When activated the brakes apply and lock up, this has happened in low speed turns at intersections and even when driving straight. I have had the vehicle to the dealership to resolve as this is a major safety concern leaving the car locked up in the middle of an intersection. They stated it was the sensor behind the steering wheel and they fixed it but the problem still persists. Secondly the driver seat has begun moving on its own and inching me closer to the steering wheel with no interference with the button while driving. I have since disconnected the seat fuse to prevent collision from improper driver positioning.

I purchased my 2005 Corvette C6 from a used car dealership on 4/30/2023. The car was fine for the first week. The second week I began getting a lot of error codes specifically: Service Active Handling System Service Traction Control Service ABS Shocks Inoperative Service Fuel System. At times it would go into limp mode. I would find a safe place to pull off. I would shut the car off and it would not restart. I would check the relays under the hood and the passenger floorboard. Eventually it would restart and drive again until the next time. I have replaced the following components: Battery cables with factory replacement New Battery, twice New high output alternator and a new belt. These items solved the many codes. Now I get Service Traction System, and the traction control shuts off. When this happened last, I got a P0101 MAF sensor error. Replaced the MAF Sensor 8/13. Has not happened as of yesterday. I have checked all of the grounds, added a new ground system called the Big Three. I should not have to put all this work into a well documented issue not only in the C6 but other models.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 MPH down a steep hill, he depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to stop as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brakes failed. The contact stated that brake fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The contact then saw thick smoke coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall and that the report would not be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

My car has been broken for over a year now. It has been to the dealership for the main engine wiring harness part number 19115750 which is unique to the 2005 and 2006 corvette. The failure causes several different problem. It keeps the TCM from which is the traction control module which adjust speed and traction to the wheels which is design to help drivers keep their cars under control. Without this system the car will loose traction and can cause it to go off the road. The second issue with the harness is it can put the car limp mode which restricts the speed to under 40mph which if you are driving and trying to excel into traffic this system will come in without notice and put you into a situation where if you are trying to merge or just go when the light changes it will only go like 5 mph causes the cars behind you to run into the rear of your vehicle and when if fail and you are pulling into traffic it causes your car to be in a direct line of impact with oncoming vehicle. The engine harness also provides power to the transmission via the ECM which keeps it from providing enough power to run the transmission control computer. This will make your car not go into gear or make it go completely out so without a transmission your car won’t move at all. This happens without notice. Now GM doesn’t make a replacement harness anymore making your vehicle unusable. GM also wants between 7k and 10k to make a harness for the vehicle. This doesn’t include installation. This makes the owners like myself have to seek other means to repair the vehicle. Like having a custom harness made for vehicle. Since GM only made this harness for 2 years it has been impossible for me to get my vehicle repaired at any cost. Making owner to make decisions that are unfair to owners. Like sell the car for scrap Paid the expensive repair which is like half the value of the car. Trade the car and lose thousands of dollars if you can find a dealership willing to take it

SO UPSET WITH THE BEARING NOISE, I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD (PICKING UP RPMS) HEADED BACK TO DEALER IN A LIMP MODE (35 MPH) EVEN WHEN THE POSTED SPEED WENT DOWN TO 25 MPH, THE CAR DID NOT LOWER RPS AS I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKES. ACCELERATED QUICKLY TO 35 MPH AND WHEN I REACHED THE END OF THE BLOCK I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW AND MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN. AT THAT TIME I GOT A WARNING TO CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM AND NOTICED I HAD NO POWER STEERING. MANAGED TO MUSCLE THE WHEEL TO COMPLETE THE TURN (HAD IT BEEN MY WIFE THERE IS NO WAY SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL) AND CONTINUE SLOWLY DOWN THE STREET TO MY DRIVEWAY WHERE I AGAIN MUSCLED THE CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY. DISCOVERED THAT THE MOTOR WAS RUNNING BUT THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS NOT MOVING. THUS NO ALTERNATOR, POWER STEERING ETC. I HAD MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT, DISCOVERED THAT THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE HARMONIC BALANCER PULLEY ON THE CRANK SHAFT STRIPPED AND THE CRANK SHAFT WAS TURNING AND NOT MOVING THE PULLEY. HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE PARTS AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE PLENTY IN STOCK. HE THOUGHT THIS WAS SURPRISING AND THAT IT WAS NOT A SPECIAL ORDER PART. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD HIM THAT THEY HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS. BOTH MY MECHANIC AND I THINK THIS SHOULD QUALIFY FOR SOME TYPE OF RECALL IF IT IS HAPPENING WITH FREQUENCY. OBVIOUSLY SOME KIND OF DESIGN FLAW AND/OR MATERIAL FLAW, PLUS THEY DIDN'T KEY THE PULLEY SO IF THE BOLT STRIPS YOU WOULD NOT LOOSE THE POWER STEERING, ETC. THIS IS A RECURRING BUT INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AS DESCRIBED FOR NON-CORVETTE GM MODELS IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 "THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PUSHED; THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUSHED; DIFFICULTY DISENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL; MOVING THE GEAR SHIFTER OUT OF THE 'PARK' POSITION WITHOUT PUSHING THE BRAKE; AND DISABLEMENT OF CRASH AVOIDANCE FEATURES SUCH AS TRACTION CONTROL, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, AND PANIC BRAKING ASSIST FEATURES." I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM OFTEN INITIATES WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP, SUGGESTING AN INTERMITTENT OPEN OR SHORT WIRING ISSUE. THEN LATER THINGS WILL RETURN TO NORMAL FOR DAYS OR WEEKS. ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE LAST TWO WEEKS THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO START AFTER BEING TURNED OFF FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME (WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, ETC.). ON 2 OF THOSE 4 OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS REQUIRED TOWING TO A DEALERSHIP'S REPAIR FACILITY. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD TURN OVER BUT FAILED TO START. IT THEN MYSTERIOUSLY STARTED AGAIN AFTER SITTING AT THE GAS PUMPS OF THE GAS STATION FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES WHILE WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START BUT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER PULLING AND REINSERTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY LOCATED IN THE UNDER HOOD UBEC. ON THE THIRD OCCASION, PULLING AND REINSERTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY HAD NO AFFECT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE VEHICLE REQUIRED TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP NOTED LOOSE CONNECTIONS ON THE UBEC AND ALSO REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. ONE DAY LATER, THE VEHICLE AGAIN FAILED TO START AND REQUIRED TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY. UPON WRITING-UP THE SERVICE TICKET, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CIRCUITS WITHIN THE UBEC ON THIS VINTAGE CORVETTE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMATIC AND THAT THE UBEC WOULD MOST LIKELY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. ON VISUAL INSPECTION, THE UBEC APPEARS TO BE LOCATED VERY CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ON THE VEHICLE WHICH WOULD MAKE IT VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO INTERMITTENT FAILURES OF VARIOUS UBEC COMPONENTS CAUSED BY HEAT (HEADLIGHTS, FUEL PUMP, ETC.). WATER LEAK IN 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CAUSED VERY STRONG MOLD/MILDEW ODOR IN THE CAR AND DESTROYED THE PASSENGER CARPET AND INSULATION, WHICH WERE REMOVED BY TECHNICIAN 122 AT SUN CHEVROLET IN MCMURRAY, PA ON 1/25/2012. SINCE DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT CARPET OR INSULATION, THE METAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOES GET EXTREMELY HOT AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS BURNS. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE REMEDIED IMMEDIATELY. RECENTLY A RAIN STORM CAUSED MORE WATER TO LEAK INSIDE AND COLLECT UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND ALMOST DAMAGED THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER FLOOR WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY I HAD A TOWEL WITH ME AND QUICKLY ABSORBED ALL OF THE WATER AND RETURNED BACK HOME TO VACUUM THE REMAINING WATER BEFORE ANYTHING ELECTRIC WAS DAMAGED. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING AND HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THAT IT MAY BE A FAULTY WEATHER STRIP CAUSING THE WATER LEAK. IF I HAD BEEN GOING FASTER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE CARS ELECTRONICS AND MAY HAVE EVEN CAUSED THE CAR TO SHUT OFF WHICH CAN LEAD TO A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AND CAUSE MAJOR INJURIES OR DEATH. THE WEATHER STRIP SHOULD BE RECALLED AND/OR REPLACED AND THE LEAK REPAIRED BY GENERAL MOTORS LLC AT NO COST BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A FACTORY DEFECT. I SPENT A LOT OF HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS CAR AND DID NOT EXPECT ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. THIS ISSUE ALONE HAS ALREADY COST ME $235.85 AND HOURS OF MY LIFE THAT I WILL NO'T GET BACK. THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER RESOLVED IN 2012 AND ONLY GOT WORSE. THE COST OF THE CARPET AND INSULATION, THAT WERE DAMAGED AND REMOVED, IS ALMOST $1,000 FOR REPLACEMENTS AND LABOR. WHILE TURNING IN A CORNER ON THE HIGHWAY, I LOST POWER STEERING AND I HAD SMOKE AND DEBRIS FLYING OUT OF THE BACK OF THE CAR. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOBODY NEAR ME, AND I MANAGED TO STEER OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. LOOKED IN THE ENGINE AND THE ACCESSORY BELT WAS SHREDDED, WHICH ALSO DESTROYED THE HEAT SHIELD MATERIAL ON THE INSIDE OF THE HOOD. GOT A FRIEND TO PICK ME UP AND WE INSTALLED A NEW BELT. DROVE 0.5 MILES AND THE BELT FLEW COMPLETELY OFF THIS TIME. POWER STEERING COMPLETELY DIED, AND I COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL WHILE BEING TAILGATED BY CARS. COOLING SYSTEM FAILED, COOLANT FLYING ALL OVER THE ENGINE BAY, UNDER THE CAR, AND ON THE HIGHWAY. I'M GLAD I WASN'T KILLED. CHECKED ALL THE PULLEYS AND FOUND THAT THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT HAD BACKED OUT, WHICH I LATER FOUND OUT CAUSED WOBBLE ON THE BELT AND LED THE ENGINE/CAR TO FAIL. GOT A TOW TO THE NEAREST GM DEALER. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). WHILE MAKING A TIGHT U-TURN TO THE LEFT IN MY 2005 CORVETTE THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKES LOCKED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. AT THE SAME TIME THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DIC (DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER). THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO PULL HARD AND MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT I BLEW OUT A TIRE. THOUGH DIFFICULT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I TURNED OFF THE CAR. I THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN WHEN THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THERE WAS ONE TIME A COUPLE OF DAYS PRIOR THAT THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" MESSAGE SHOWED OF THE DIC BUT NO NOTICEABLE PROBLEMS CAME ABOUT. I TALKED TO MY LOCAL DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS AN ERROR FROM DRIVING ON WET ROADS SINCE THE LIGHT DIDN'T APPEAR AGAIN AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR. I BELIEVED THIS AND RETURNED TO DRIVING UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION TO THIS MATTER IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF GM WILL ISSUE A PROPER FIX. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE TODAY AND HAVE FOUND A TSB ABOUT INSTALLING A CLIP IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHERE THE WIRES PLUG INTO THE STEERING SENSOR BUT THAT THIS MAY NOT BE THE FIX FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. ON 01/07/2010, THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING MESSAGE CAME ON CROSSING OVER A RAILROAD TRACK AT AROUND FIVE MPH. THE MESSAGE STAYED ON UNTIL RESTARTING THE CAR. ON 01/08/2010, WHILE SLOWING THE CAR THROUGH 55 MPH TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY, THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE APPLIED FOR APPROXIMATELY HALF OF A SECOND PULLING ME INTO THE RIGHT EXIT LANE. "ACTIVE HANDLING-ON" MESSAGE DISPLAYED AND STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS. LUCKILY, NO OTHER CARS WERE NEAR AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT I WAS DRIVING STRAIT. HOWEVER, I DO REMEMBER HITTING A ROUGH PATCH OF HIGHWAY RIGHT BEFORE THE BRAKE APPLIED. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED AT THE CHEVROLET DEALER. THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. AFTER ABOUT 2.5 YEARS THE CONVERTIBLE TOP MECHANISM STARTED GETTING NOISY AND THEN REFUSED TO CLOSE ALL THE WAY. THE DEALER REPAIRED IT UNDER WARRANTY WITH A NEW ELECTRIC MOTOR AND A PUMP REPAIR KIT. THERE IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH MY CORVETTE THAT I BELIEVE IS TIED TO FAULTS IN THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM. I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY FOLLOWING A LEFT CURVE WHEN I FELT THE BRAKES GRAB. I SAW "ACTIVE HANDLING" DISPLAYED; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO REASON FOR ACTIVE HANDLING TO OCCUR (ROADWAY WAS DRY, WAS DRIVING AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT, WAS NOT MAKING A SUDDEN TURNING MANEUVER). LATER I SAW THAT THE CAR WAS DISPLAYING A FRONT RIGHT TIRE PRESSURE OF 0 PSI, BUT NO OTHER WARNINGS OCCURRED (TYPICALLY, A YELLOW WARNING LIGHT GOES ON AN CAR DISPLAYS A LOW TIRE PRESSURE OR RIGHT FRONT TIRE FLAT WARNING WHEN THIS OCCURS). I'VE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM AND CHEVY HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR ONCE. USUALLY ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES WILL READ ZERO PSI AND THE AFOREMENTIONED WARNINGS WILL APPEAR, AND THE CAR'S ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WILL ENGAGE MORE EASILY, THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER, THE CAR WILL DISPLAY NORMAL TIRE PRESSURES AGAIN. IN THE INCIDENT I'M DESCRIBING HERE, THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS BEING READ AT ZERO, AND NO INDICATION THAT ACTIVE HANDLING WOULD ENGAGE SO EASILY. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OR A CRASH. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE CAR SERVICED IN TWO DAYS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHENEVER THERE IS ANY TORQUE PRESENT, THE CONTACT HEARS A CRUNCHING AND POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE ROOF PANEL. THE FAILURE OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY BECAUSE THE LAMINATED PART OF THE ROOF IS SEPARATING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER SIX TIMES FOR THIS FAILURE, WITH THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE ON JANUARY 17, 2008. THE FAILURE HAS SINCE WORSENED. THE CONTACT DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A REPAIR AVAILABLE FOR THIS FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,900 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLSTER IN THE VEHICLE WAS BUILT TOO HIGH AND IT WAS WEARING OUT. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CORVETTE, AND THEY MODIFIED THE BOLSTER FOR HIM IN THAT CAR BY LOWERING IT. THEY CANNOT MODIFY THE BOLSTER IN THE 2005 MODEL BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAGS. THE VINYL ON THE BOLSTER IS PAPER THIN, AND WHEN HE GETS IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE IT IS WEARING THE VINYL OUT.
