2006 Corvette convertible. Has a strong gas smell after filling up. I understand this is a common problem, but Chevrolet will not acknowledge it. The gas can drip down on the hot exhaust system, and start a fire, burning down our house, or out on the road with us in it! Strong fuel smell coming from the vehicle after fueling filling.

Vehicle is leaving a strong gas order inside and around the vehicle. This issue is currently awaiting to be inspected but for the meantime, it’s parked inside a garage where it completely fills the area with said odor. This is particularly unsafe due to our water heater also being located in this section of the house. Gas smell first appeared about a month ago and had consistently releasing these vapors. I’ve seen that GM has released a service bulletin for a short period of time but hasn’t officially recalled the fuel issue (faulty fuel system).

Fuel leaks from drivers side fuel tank. I see fuel tracks down side of tank, so conclude fuel is leaking from top of tank or from fuel pump. Fuel components are plastic, and now 17 years old, so they are probably cracked from age. I have strong smell of fuel in my garage, and puddle of fuel under drivers side tank. This is a safety hazard and must be fixed. I am aware of a number of other C6 Corvette owners with identical problems. GM must fix!

THE HEADLIGHT COVERS ARE CRAZING OVER WHICH IS MATERIALLY REDUCING THE LIGHT OUTPUT. 1. THE COVERS CANNOT BE POLISHED. NOT ONLY DOES THAT DESTROY THE OUTER COATING, THE CRAZING IS THROUGH-AND-THROUGH. 2. THE COVERS ARE GLUED ON AND CANNOT BE REPLACED BY ANY OFFICIAL MEANS, ALTHOUGH SOME INVENTIVE PEOPLE HAVE MANAGED TO SUCCEED (USUALLY AFTER MULTIPLE FAILED ATTEMPTS) BY STICKING THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY IN THEIR KITCHEN OVEN. HOWEVER, [SEE NEXT POINT] 3. THE COVERS THEMSELVES ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE. 4. THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES THEMSELVES, WHICH COST AROUND $1,000 PER SIDE, ARE SPECIFIC TO THE COLOR OF THE CAR, AND ARE NOW DISCONTINUED. IN OTHER WORDS, THERE IS NO LEGIT PATHWAY TO FIXING THIS PROBLEM. GM MADE A THROWAWAY HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY THAT COST A FORTUNE TO REPLACE WHEN IT WAS PRODUCED, AND NOW IT'S NOT AVAILABLE AT ALL. THIS IS NOT AN OLD CAR. THESE CARS WERE PRODUCED UNTIL 2013. THREE AND A HALF YEARS LATER, YOU CAN'T GET ESSENTIAL PARTS TO MAKE THE HEADLIGHTS SAFE. THOUSANDS OF C6 HEADLAMP COVERS ARE STARTING TO FAIL NOW. THE NHTSA DID A RECALL FOR THE LOW-BEAM WIRING MALFUNCTION ON THIS CAR. THIS IS A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN ITS EFFECT.

I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60MPH WHEN MY LIGHTS WENT OUT. I HAD TO PULL OVER, AND THEIR WAS A GOOD DEAL OF TRAFFIC. I DISCOVERED THAT MY BRIGHT LIGHTS WERE WORKING. I HAD THIS PROBLEM OFF AND ON FOR AWHILE. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I GOT IT BACK AND CONTINUED HAVING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE AVOIDED DRIVING AT NIGHT WHICH LIMITS THE USE OF YOUR CAR. I GOT A SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT THAT CAME ON THE DASH TWO DAYS AGO, AND WENT AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR A FEW TIMES. WHILE I WAS DRIVE YESTERDAY AND DOING ABOUT 70 MPH, THE CAR PULLED VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT AND I HAD TO MAKE A RAPID CORRECTION TO AVOID HITTING THE TRUCK NEXT TO ME. AS THAT HAPPENED I INSTINCTIVELY GLANCED AT MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING, SEEMS TO HAVE LIT UP THE INSTANCE THE CAR MADE TO SUDDEN LEFT SWING. I'VE READ ON THE CORVETTE FORUMS, THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN PLAGUING THE C6 Z06. THIS ALSO HAPPENED A COUPLE OF YEARS WHILE I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND WAS GOING ABOUT 25 TO 30 MPH. I DON'T USE THE CAR THAT OFTEN, ONLY WHILE I'M ON VACATION, WHICH IS ABOUT 3 TO 4 TIMES PER YEAR. THE LIGHT WILL COME ON FROM TIME TO TIME BUT THE SUDDEN LEFT SWING ONLY HAPPENED TWICE.

I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE FROM GM, BUT I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER'S ATTENTION WHILE I WAS IN FOR A RECALL REPAIR IN 2008. I TOLD THE TECH THAT MY TRACTION CONTROL, ACTIVE STABILITY CONTROL, WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK THE TECH SAID THE TRACTION CONTROL IS FIXED AND WORKING FINE. I DIDN'T SEE HOW HE COULD HAVE SAID THAT WHEN THE CAR NEVER LEFT THE SHOP. I REALIZE NOW THAT HE WAS AWARE OF SOMETHING THAT I WASN'T. THE TRACTION WASN'T FIXED, BUT I FELT THAT I CAN'T BRING IT BACK DUE TO INCOMPETENCE. I WENT TO FORUMS AND FOUND PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS. THEN I NOTICED THAT 2005-2006 CORVETTES WITH THE RPON37 STEERING COLUMN BUILT IN 2005 WERE RECALLED FOR THIS. NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS 10V172000 AND GM'S CAMPAIGN # WAS N100118. I CALLED GM THEY SAID I AM MISTAKEN MY CAR IS NOT AFFECTED WHICH IS [XXX]. I THEN FOUND FROM THE INTERNET THAT PART #19179794, CLIP, WAS USED TO FIX THE ISSUE. I THEN ORDERED ONE OF THESE AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO REPAIR IT AND FOUND THIS CLIP WAS INSTALLED, BUT IMPROPERLY HENCE THE REASON IT WASN'T FIXED BY THE TECH, BUT HE WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION IT WAS SOLVED. I THEN REPLACED THE CLIP PROPERLY AND NOW IT'S OK. GM WAS VERY DIFFICULT AND DISMISSIVE DURING THE ENTIRE ORDEAL. LOOKING ON YOUR WEB SITE IT SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT MY VIN # DOES IN FACT FALL INTO THE SPECS OF YOUR RECALL. I AM GOING TO ENCLOSE A PHOTO OF THE BENT, IMPROPERLY, INSTALLED CLIP AND A PROPER PICTURE OF THE CLIP. ALSO THE HARNESS THAT NEEDS THE CLIP TO SHOW THAT THE BENT PRONG IS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE HARNESS. I HAVE OWNED A 2006 CORVETTE FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS NOW. THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DIC. IT USED TO COME ON ONCE IN A WHILE. IT NOW OCCURS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. ABOUT 10% OF THE TIME ONE OF THE BRAKES WILL INSTANTANEOUSLY COME ON HARD THEN RELEASES IN ADDITION TO THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" LIGHT COMING ON. I LIVE IN WISCONSIN SO I DON'T DRIVE IT ALL YEAR, BUT IN THE SUMMER I DRIVE IT EVERY DAY (ITS MY PRIMARY SUMMER VEHICLE). I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON CORPORATE TYPE AIRCRAFT FOR 37+ YEARS SO I AM ACCUSTOMED TO INSPECTING COMPLEX SYSTEMS. I CHECKED UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AND FOUND AN ORANGE "WEDGE" INSTALLED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR AND NOTICED THE ELECTRICAL LEAD GOING TO THE SENSOR APPEARS TO BE TOO SHORT WITH THE TILT / TELESCOPIC COLUMN ADJUSTED FULL AFT AND UP. I CALLED A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO "FIX THE FIX" BUT THEY TOLD ME MY CAR ISN'T COVERED BY RECALL "N100118" BY VIN #. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY SHOW A RECORD OF A DEALERSHIP WORKING ON THIS SYSTEM BACK IN 2012? I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED THE ORANGE WEDGE (RECALL # N100118) AT THAT TIME. I CONTACTED THE CHEVROLET OWNERS CENTER AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING, NO COVERAGE DUE TO VIN #. THEY DID DOCUMENT MY COMPLAINT WITH CASE # [XXX]. AT THE END OF LAST SEASON I WAS DRIVING WITH MY WIFE IN THE CAR AT NIGHT, ON A BUSY INTERSTATE, IN A POURING RAIN. I WAS IN THE CENTER LANE WHEN THE STABILITY SYSTEM SLAMMED ON MY LEFT FRONT BRAKE. IT HAPPENED FOR JUST AN INSTANT BUT THAT WAS LONG ENOUGH TO SEND ME PARTIALLY INTO THE LANE TO LEFT OF ME. BECAUSE OF THE RAIN THE CAR LOST TRACTION AND GOT A LITTLE "SQUIRRELLY" DURING RECOVERY. IT WAS A VERY SCARY RIDE THAT COULD EASILY HAVE ENDED UP AS A MULTI-CAR CRASH. I COULD USE SOME ASSISTANCE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE RIGHT AS THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING) WHICH THE CONTACT LINKED WITH THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND PELTIER CHEVROLET (2700 W. SW LOOP 323, TYLER, TX 75701) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

THE POWER STEERING HIGH PRESSURE LINE LEAKS IN MULTIPLE PLACES THROUGH A SHORT CANVAS REINFORCED RUBBER SEGMENT ON MY 2006 CORVETTE, NOT THROUGH ANY CRIMPED FITTINGS, O-RINGS, ETC. THE HIGHER THE RPM, THE FASTER IT LEAKS. IT SPRAYS ON THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST. THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK WAS DIFFICULT TO FIND SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE (USED), BEING THE HOSE ITSELF IS HARD TO SEE, THE LEAK WAS SMALLER THEN, AND IT HAD A CORRUGATED PLASTIC TUBING WRAPPED AROUND IT FOR ABRASION PROTECTION, DIVERTING THE LEAKS. NOW IT'S LEAKING BADLY. THE HOSE IS BENT IN A CURVE, AND THE LEAKS ARE ALL ALONG THE OUTER PERIMETER (STRETCHED) SIDE OF THE HOSE. I DISCOVERED THE REPLACEMENT STEEL LINE HAS BEEN REDESIGNED TO A LONGER UNIT WITH TWO STRAIGHT RUBBER SECTIONS THAT MUST BE REROUTED, WHICH TOLD ME THE ORIGINAL HAD A DESIGN FLAW THAT LED TO FAILURES. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS, AND THERE IS, BUT ODDLY MY VIN SEEMS TO 'NOT BE INCLUDED'. RECALL #05V455000 IS DATED 10/5/2005, AND THE DATE MY CAR WAS BUILT IS 09/05 ACCORDING TO THE DOOR DECAL. THE RECALL STATES: 'CONSEQUENCE: IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, POWER STEERING ASSIST WOULD BE LOST AND INCREASED STEERING EFFORT WOULD BE REQUIRED. ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HYDRO-BOOST POWER BRAKES, IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER BRAKE ASSIST AND INCREASED BRAKING EFFORT WOULD BE REQUIRED. IF THE POWER STEERING FLUID SPRAY WERE TO SPRAY ONTO HOT ENGINE PARTS, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR.' THE DEALERSHIP INSISTS MY VIN IS NOT EFFECTED, BUT YET I CLEARLY HAVE THIS PROBLEM NOW ON A HOSE THAT IS NOTHING LIKE THE NEWLY-DESIGNED ONES. I THINK GM MUST INCLUDE MY VIN AND ALL ADDITIONAL ONES WITH THIS OLD STYLE HOSE INSTALLED, I THINK IT 'SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACKS'. IT'S SPRAYING FLUID ON HOT EXHAUST BENEATH, AND IT LOSES LOTS OF FLUID QUICKLY WHICH CAN LEAD TO STEERING/BRAKE FAILURE. I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR IN THE STATE IT'S IN.

THE SHIFTER IS CONNECTED TO THE TRANSMISSION WITH A 4 FOOT CABLE, THIS CABLE IS HOUSED IN THE DRIVE SHAFT TUNNEL, THE CABLE HAS A PLASTIC BUSHING ON BOTH ENDS, THE HEAT IN THE TUNNEL BAKES THE PLASTIC BUSHING THAT CONNECTS THE SHIFTER TO THE TRANSMISSION CABLE, MY BUSHING BROKE INTO PIECES AND THE CAR COULD NOT SHIFT INTO OR OUT OF GEAR. MANY CORVETTES IN THE C5,C6 & C7 MODES HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE AND ARE FAILING EVERYDAY. MY CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE IN PARK, I HAD DRIVEN IT EARLIER IN THE DAY, I STARED THE CAR AND THE SHIFTER WOULD MOVE, BUT THE PLASTIC BUSHING HAD BROKEN INTO PIECES DUE TO THE HEAT FAILURE. MY LOW BEAM LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. GOT HAD DRIVEN TO A LOCATION IN DAYLIGHT. 2 HOURS LATER (DARK) I STARTED THE CAR AND THE LOW-BEAMS DIDN'T COME ON. I GOT HOME (ON FOG LAMPS) AND INSPECTS THE FUSE BOX. THOUGHT THE LOW BEAM RELAY WAS FAULTY SO WENT IN ANOTHER VEHICLE TO PURCHASE ONE. REPLACING THE RELAY, THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED UNTIL THE NEXT DAY, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I HAVE A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE AND IT HAS A PART THAT IS IN THE PROCESS OF FAILING. THE DASH CONTROL UNIT (PART # 25938052) IS FLASHING, WHICH MY CHEVROLET DEALER TELLS ME IT IS GOING TO FAIL. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE, AS I COULD LOOSE MY DEFROSTER CAPABILITY, FRONT AND BACK WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE VISITED 5 DIFFERENT GM DEALERS AND THEY ALL SAY THE PART IS EITHER BACK ORDERED OR DISCONTINUED. I CAN'T GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER. SINCE THIS PART WAS INSTALLED IN CORVETTES UP TO 2012 MODEL YEAR, I FIND CHEVROLETS INDIFFERENCE TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE DISTURBING. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT CHEVROLET ONLINE SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY RECENTLY CUT ME OFF AND HAVE FAILED TO RESPOND TO E-MAILS. I HAVE HEARD ANECDOTALLY, THAT CHEVROLET HAS MANY PARTS "BACK-ORDERED" WINK, WINK. THEY KEEP TRYING TO SELL ME A NEW CAR, BUT WHY WOULD I BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM THEM WITH THIS BEHAVIOR? MY AUTOMATIC SHIFTER GETS STUCK IN PARK. I ALREADY HAD THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE SHIFTER A FEW YEARS AGO BUT THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. ONCE I START THE CAR, THE SYSTEM DOES NOT TELL THE SHIFTER TO UNLOCK AND THEREFORE I CAN NOT GET IT IN GEAR. I HAVE TO PLAY WITH IT SEVERAL TIME. IT MAY TAKE LESS THAN 1 MINUTE TO ENGAGE WHILE AT OTHER TIMES IT MAY TAKE 5 MINUTES. I HAVE READ IN THE CORVETTE FORUM THAT IT IS HAPPENING TO QUITE A FEW CORVETTE OWNERS. THIS IS HAPPENING MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY THAN BEFORE.

4/2015 CAR WAS AT DEALERSHIP FOR BODY WORK, WHILE IT WAS THERE, RECALL WORK WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE, GM RECALL 123146, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS DONE AND IT WAS REPORTED TO GM AS "WORK DONE" FAST FORWARD TO 8/2018 CAR WAS DRIVEN AT NIGHT AND LOSS OF LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WAS EXPERIENCED, SAME THING HAPPENED NEXT DAY. THESE ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL BEFORE "THE FIX" UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT DONE. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE FUSE BOX AND I HAVE PICTURES OF WHAT ITS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE WHEN THE FIX IS DONE.

WHILE DRIVING, THE CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT COME ON, VOLTAGE ON THE GAGE WENT TO 11.5 VOLT. I CHANGE THE ALTERNATOR, AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW REBUILD ON THE GAGE WHEN UP TO 14.5. I TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE. THAT ONLY LASTED 20 MINUTES. WITHIN 2 SATURDAY, I HAVE ADDED 6 ALTERNATOR TO THIS CAR, THEY ONLY LAST 20 MINUTE AFTER IN STALLING. HAD THE CAR CHECK OUT. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A BAD ALTERNATOR. I HAVE NEVER CHANGED SO MANY ALTERNATOR IN MY LIFE ON ONE CAR. TAKING IT INTO A SHOP THIS WEEKEND AGAIN AND LET THEM INSTALL THERE $800.00 ALTERNATOR AND SEE WHAT HAPPEN.

Air bag warning light comes on intermittently...goes away when I move the seat back and forth indicating there is faulty wiring with this vehicle. Apparently according to a corvette forum, this is a common problem, which tells me there is a chance that the problem possibly came from the factory.

I have a potential AH/TC (Active Handling) system problem. Today the “Service Active Handling System” light came on and upon search of the fix within my Corvette community I discovered that it is potentially a DEADLY issue where brakes may lock up on the freeway! PLEASE send me information on a fix with GM or where this is at in the process in regards to a recall. Thank you for your attention to this apparently deadly issue.

HELLO MY NAME IS [XXX] I AM 64 YEARS OLD. ON SUNDAY 9/18/2016 WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 CORVETTE WITH MY WIFE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WE NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT. I WAS GOING AROUND 70 WHEN THE CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN BRAKE AND PULLED TO THE LEFT. WE WERE BOTH SHOOK UP BY THIS. WE RIGHT AWAY PRESSED OUR ON-STAR BUTTON. WE HAD THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. ON-STAR WAS UNABLE TO GET A READING ON THE CAR. WE TOLD ON-STAR THAT THE DASH BOARD DISPLAYED THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM". AS SOON AS WE GOT HOME MY WIFE LOOKED UP THIS ISSUES AND NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 2010 #[XXX]. MY CAR IS A 2006 CORVETTE VIN# [XXX]. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT MONDAY 9/19. THE DEALERSHIP IS ANCIRA WINTON 6111 BANDERA RD SAT 78238. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS RECALL FIXED. SO BASICALLY I WAS OUT OF LUCKY BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN FIXED. WELL I SAY NO IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED I HAVE A PICTURE OF WHAT APPEARED ON MY DASH BOARD WHICH I HAVE ATTACHED. IN 2010, THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE FOR "STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR." THE ISSUE WAS THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" WARNING NOTICE WAS INTERMITTENTLY APPEARING IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. THE REMEDY WAS TO INSTALL A PLASTIC CLIP. THIS REMEDY DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW "STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR" AND THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL AND IT WOULD BE AT MY EXPENSE. I DID NOT HAVE THE REPAIR DONE AT THAT TIME BECAUSE I RARELY DRIVE THE CAR, AND THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME TO HAVE A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND THAT SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR AWHILE. THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" WARNING HAS RETURNED, AND I'M SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED FOR ABOUT $800. THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE 2005-2006 CORVETTES, AND THE PLASTIC CLIP DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. RARELY, DURING LOW SPEEDS (UNDER 15 MPH), WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WILL LOCK UP, INDUCING A HARSH LEFT TURN, UNSTABLE MANEUVERING, AND CAUSING THE MOTOR TO ATTEMPT TO STALL. STEERING IS EXTREMELY UNSTABLE AND VIOLENT AND OPERATOR HAS TO FIGHT AGAINST THE CAR WANTING TO TURN LEFT BY APPLYING EXTREME RIGHT TO THE STEERING WHEEL. I purchased this car from a dealer in Sarasota Florida. Driving it home from the dealer, I was driving approximately 70 mph on [XXX] near Sarasota. The vehicle suddenly braked and pulled to the left simultaneously. I have taken it to a repair shop that specializes in Corvettes, and trying to ID the problem. In doing research, evidently it is related to the active handling system. There is a recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 10V172000 Manufacturer GENERAL MOTORS CORP. my service active handling and traction control light will come on randomly and disappear, when it does come on usually my car will brake on one side of the car and skip and skid over to one side. when it happens I have zero control of the braking and steering and it has taken my car into another lane completely. it is terrifying and I've had the whole brake system replaced, along with ecm, ebcm, rack and pinion all suspension and steering components, wiring harness and just about everything I could think of that may cause it. I have a tilting telescope steering wheel and I've heard that they can cause this

On numerous occasions the past two years the active handling system in the vehicle will take control for no reason and brake on one side causing the car to swerve out of its lane and other times applies the brakes on its own. Very dangerous.

This is a safety concern when I start my car and can not put it in reverse. This in todays world of violence and crime everywhere is truly a safety concern for women stuck in a car that you can not get out of park. The shift is stuck in park and will not move in any other position. Looking on the web this is a known problem on many 2005 and 2006 Corvette's for years. This has happened to many times to count.

Shifter assembly does not operate properly. The shifter locks and will not move from park to reverse or neutral or drive. Therefore, the car is inoperable. Many suggestions are to override such lockout mechanism however this creates a major safety issue. The car was at dealership, and they could not resolve problem, nor could they locate a replacement shifter assembly. I believe GM’s lack of providing parts, TSB or other remediations for this well-known issue will result in owners creating an unsafe vehicle and overriding the safety lockout that is not working. Therefore, I strongly would like NHTSA to launch an investigation.

I WAS DRIVING IN S 35 MPH ZONE AND IT CHANGED TO 45 MPH. I WAS IN 2 OR 3RD GEAR AND HAS JUST STARTED UP A SLIGHT INCLINE AND I WAS INCREASING SPEED WHEN THE CAR MADE A SUDDEN JERK AND LOUD ALMOST A BANG. I DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH AND IT STAYED ON THE FLOOR. I THOUGH THAT THE CLUTCH HAD CAME APART AND I PULLED THE PEDAL UP TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE ENGINE AT THAT POINT WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND WOULD NOT HOLD SPEED OR ACCELERATE. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND GOT MY WIFE TO PICK ME UP. I THEN GOT MY PICKUP AND TRAILER AND TOOK THE CAR TO CLASSIC CHEVROLET. THEY FOUND WHERE THE VALVE HAD DROPPED INTO THE CYLINDER AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE PISTON AND ROD. I LOOKED AT THE ENGINE WHILE TORE DOWN AND NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO ME TO BE A CRACK IN THE CYLINDER WALL AND POINTED IT OUT, THE FORMAN SAID THE HAD CHECKED IT AND DIDN'T FEEL THAT IT WAS A CRACK. THEY ADVISED ME TO GET A NEW HEAD AND HAVE THE OTHER HEAD WORKED ON AS WELL AS A PISTON, ETC. I DID THAT AND HAD THE CAR REPAIRED. WHEN THE CAR JERKED IT ALSO AFFECTED THE PRESSURE PLATE SO I HAD THAT REPLACED. AFTER I GOT THE CAR BACK I NOTICED IT WAS SMOKING WHITE VAPOR WHENEVER I STARTED IT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE TESTED IT AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS A CRACK IN THE CYLINDER. I THEN HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY FAIR AND CREDITED THE EARLIER WORK AGAINST THE MOTOR. WHEN THE MOTOR LET LOOSE, THE CAR LOCKED THE BACK WHEELS AND THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO MAKE A RATHER QUICK STOP AND DODGE ME SO AS NOT TO HAVE A WRECK.

I BOUGHT THIS CORVETTE Z06 USED FROM A PRIVATE PARTY. THE ENGINE HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE DUE TO A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE VALVE GUIDES AND VALVES IN THE LS7 MOTOR FROM THE FACTORY. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE MOTOR FAILED. I WAS LUCKY TO BE ONLY A MILE FROM HOME WHEN IT FAILED AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO MY GARAGE. THE EXHAUST VALVE DROPPED AND DESTROYED THE #1 PISTON ALONG WITH THAT CYLINDER, AND THE ENGINE BLOCK. NOTHING IN THE MOTOR IS SALVAGEABLE AS IT BENT OR SENT METAL SHARDS INTO EVERY PART OF THE MOTOR. MASSIVE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A FAILED EXHAUST VALVE AFTER INSPECTION, CAR LOST ALL POWER AND WAS IMMOBILE AFTER ROLLING TO A STOP. THE 7 AND 8 CYLINDER ON THE BLOCK WERE COMPLETELY VENTILATED. This is a 2006 Corvette with roughly 82,000 miles. The driver's seat will intermittently collapse on the recline function, resulting in a seat that is reclined all the way back. When this occurs, I need to pull myself up by the steering wheel while the vehicle is going down the road.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE METAL SEAT FRAME WAS SHATTERED INTO 3 PLACES. THE SEAT WOULD NOT RECLINE PROPERLY, AND AS I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO BE FIXED: THE SEAT WAS FLOATING LOOSELY IN THE CAR WHEN IT ARRIVED AT HIS SHOP. THE CORVETTE HAD ONLY 29,900 MILES ON IT, WAS NOT A DAILY DRIVER, AND HAD ONLY SEEN RECREATIONAL WEEKEND USE. THE CORVETTE WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT, ALWAYS GARAGED, AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF. AS AN AEROSPACE ENGINEER, I STRONGLY BELIEVE THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE SEAT FRAME THAT LED TO THIS FAILURE. THE SEAT HAD ONLY SEEN 29,900 MILES OR LESS OF REGULAR, EVERY DAY USE BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THAT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE WERE HAIRLINE FRACTURES IN THE METAL SEAT FRAME BEFORE IT WAS INSTALLED IN MY CORVETTE AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT. FAILURES IN BOTH THE SUPPLIER'S MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND CHEVROLET'S QUALITY INSPECTION PROCESS OCCURRED IN THIS INSTANCE. HAD I BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WITH A SEAT THAT WAS NOT SECURED TO THE CORVETTE, THE INJURIES I WOULD HAVE SUSTAINED WOULD HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHEVROLET ABOUT THIS, AND BELIEVE THE COMPLAINT DID NOT RECEIVE THE ATTENTION THAT IT SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED. THERE WAS NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FAILED PART, AND I WAS ONLY PARTIALLY REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. AS A RESULT, I AM FILING A SEPARATE COMPLAINT WITH THE GOVERNMENT SO THEY CAN PROVIDE THE PROPER OVERSIGHT IN THIS MATTER. ON AUGUST 13, 2015, MY 2006 CORVETTE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF REVERSE. THE CAR WAS STUCK IN THAT REVERSE GEAR AND THE SHIFT LEVER WAS NOT ENABLING THE SELECTION OF ANOTHER GEAR. THE SHIFTER MECHANISM ON THIS AUTOMATIC EQUIPPED VEHICLE WAS OPERATIONAL, BUT THE LINKAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION WAS NO LONGER ENGAGED. THE CAR WAS BEING PULLED INTO THE GARAGE WHEN THIS HAPPENED, SO FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT IN A BUSY INTERSECTION, IN A PARKING LOT, OR IN SOME OTHER LOCATION WHERE I, OR SOMEONE ELSE, MIGHT HAVE BEEN IN HARM'S WAY DUE TO A VEHICLE THAT I COULD NO LONGER CONTROL. SINCE THE CAR COULD NOT BE PUT IN NEUTRAL OR PARK, I HAD TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WITH IT IN REVERSE AND USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO KEEP THE CAR FROM MOVING. SINCE THE SHIFTER MECHANISM COULD STILL MOVE, THE SWITCH ACTIVATING THE "OK TO START" WOULD HAVE ALLOWED THE CAR TO START WHEN PUT IN THE PARK OR NEUTRAL POSITIONS - WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WAS STILL STUCK IN REVERSE; A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS A 50 CENT BUSHING THAT ATTACHES TO THE SHIFT LEVER. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HIT A SMALL POT HOLE. THE ALLOY RIM OF MY NEW C6 CORVETTE SPLIT IN HALF AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE CAUSING PARTIAL LOSS OF CONTROL IN TRAFFIC. The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while driving at speeds above 25 MPH, the ABS system failed, causing the front brakes to activate without the driver depressing the brake pedal. During the failure the active handling warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the active handling control module wiring harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. Additionally, while operating the vehicle the low beam headlights inadvertently turned off. The mechanic diagnosed that the wiring harness for the exterior lighting needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V251000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 50,000. The contact stated that he pulled the fuse box and wiring from the car. In the photos, we can see a damaged wire around a tight bend that has created tension and caused a faulty connection.

Happened twice within a day. The main electric fan on the radiator stopped working and the car overheated. Once at idle, was able to shut the car off safely. The second time, there was traffic on the highway, and the fan stopped working and the car started to overheat. Had to shut the car off and wait for it to cool down on the side of the road. When I got the car home, I found the electrical connector of the fan to be melted and fused together. There was no indicator that the fan would stop running prior to the engine overheating.

The service active handling and the traction control error is appearing on my cars instrument panel. Causing the cars ABS system to activate the front brakes while driving.This reaction causes the car to pull to the left, nearly causing an accident. It has random affected my car here recently. In that years that I have owned the car I have not had an issue. However, I see that this issue has been widely reported on this generation. Although I don’t see a recall for this issue. I do see that this is very dangerous. I feel lucky that this did not happen as I was traveling at a higher rate of speed or I probably would have wrecked the car.

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER IN LIVERMORE, CA FIVE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE (JAN 09, MAR 09, MAR 09, DEC 09, JAN 10) THE DEALER TRIED A NUMBER OF REPAIRS BUT THE WARNING CONTINUED. THE DEALER AND GM ARE NOW STATING THAT THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO DEFECTIVE BPMV AND EBCM UNITS WHICH CONTROL THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM AND THE STABILITRACK SYSTEM. THEY ARE REFUSING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS APPARENTLY A CHRONIC PROBLEM FOR THESE VEHICLES WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IF THE BRAKES WERE TO LOCK UP AT THE WRONG TIME. *TR

ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO MY 2006 CORVETTE'S DIC SAID PLEASE SERVICE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF INDICATION LIGHT CAME ON. LATER THAT DAY I WENT TO TAKE THE CAR TO BE SERVICED. ON THE WAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT THE OTHER LIGHTS HAD GONE AWAY. AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS PLUGGED UP TO A COMPUTER I WAS TOLD IT SAID THERE WAS A LEAK FROM THE GAS CAP, WHICH DOESN'T CLOSE PROPERLY AT TIMES. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE COMPUTER SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND JUST TO WATCH IT AND COME BACK ANOTHER TIME IF I KEPT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE WARNING MESSAGE OR LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON AGAIN FOR ABOUT 4-5 WEEKS. WHEN IT DID I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND AFTER HITTING A BUMP THE LIGHT AND WARNING CAME ON. WHEN THE CAR WAS TURN OFF AND RESTARTED IT WOULD GO AWAY. I HAD NOT BEEN DRIVING IT OFTEN BECAUSE I HAD ANOTHER CAR. THE PAST WEEK I HAD TO DRIVE IT EVERY DAY TO WORK DUE TO IT NOW BEING MY ONLY CAR. THE LIGHT AND WARNING NOW COMES ON ALMOST EVERY TIME IT IS DRIVEN. THE CAR IS TELLING ME THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS OFF, BUT WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT SOMETIMES PULLS THE CAR TO THE LEFT WITHOUT ME MOVING THE WHEEL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE BREAK MAKES A GRINDING NOISE AND IF YOU PLACE YOUR FOOT ON TOP OF THE BREAK IT FEELS AS THOUGH IT IS BEING PUMPING UP AND DOWN. TWO TIMES NOW WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE TO WORK THE CAR HAS PULLED ITSELF OFF THE ROAD CAUSING ME TO ALMOST WRECK AND CAUSING OTHERS WRECK BEHIND ME. I HAVE SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR TOMORROW 11/17/2009 BEFORE GOING TO WORK BUT WAS TOLD THEY ARE UNSURE (EVEN THOUGH THIS IS MAJOR AND I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY) IF THEY WILL HAVE A RENTAL CAR SO I CAN GO TO WORK. IF THEY DON'T I WILL BE FORCE TO DRIVE MY CAR UNTIL THEY DO AND I CAN GET OFF WORK. I CAN'T LOSE MY PROFESSIONAL JOB OVER TRANSPORTATION. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ROOF PANEL FLEW OFF AGAIN AND PUSHED THE HEADLINER DOWN. THE VEHICLE SWERVED INTO A CURB AND ALL FOUR RIMS WERE DAMAGED. TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE, AND STATED THAT THE SEAT BELTS WERE RETRACTING WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKES. ON ONE OCCASION, THE SEAT BELTS RETRACTED UNTIL THE SHOULDER PART OF THE BELT WAS ON THE CONTACT'S NECK AND HE FELT AS IF HE WAS BEING CHOKED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEAT BELTS, AND ADDED A SEAT BELT EXTENDER, BUT THE DRIVER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THIS IS NOT ABOUT A SPECIFIC CAR, RATHER THERE HAVE BEEN SIX REPORTS THIS WEEK IN THE CORVETTE FORUM OF OWNERS WHO HAD THEIR ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM LOCK UP ALL FOUR WHEELS, PULSING VIOLENTLY AND MAKING THEIR CAR UNCONTROLLABLE. TWO OF THESE OWNERS REPORTED THIS HAPPENING AT ABOUT 40+ MPH AND HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AS IT ENTERED ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THIS IS A VERY, VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD VERY EASILY TAKE THE LIVES OF DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS. *JB
