Power steering went out while I was driving and it put me in danger and other drivers because it was hard to control the vehicle, the steering wheel was really tough to turn. The vehicle wasn't inspected by a professional because the problem just occurred.

Power steering lights up and I am unable to turn the steering wheel. When I shut the motor down and start back up, the steering starts working again. This has been doing this for about 4 years now. I took it to White Allen Chevrolet when it first started happening and they told me that they drove it around and that it did not happen while they test drove the car. It happens intermittingly. I never know when it is going to happen. When it first started, it only happened about once every six months or so. Now it is happening every time I am in the car. Sometimes when I pull out onto a street and into traffic the power steering light comes on and I have to find a spot to get off the street so that I can turn the motor off and restart the engine. Today 09/18/2025, it cut off 3 times. I am checking to see if there is a recall on this model for the power steering. I have found out that it does not use power steering fluid but that it has a motor under the steering wheel that controls the power steering.

My power steering keeps going out. It randomly makes it hard to turn which could cause a crash. It's common in other hhr models, mine has not been inspected personally yet. It has a chime and then the console says "power steering". There were no signs before it started. It goes away when you restart the car but will come back randomly. I was advised by an auto repair place to replace the battery, but it didn't help.

Power steering motor went out. Went to the dealer to get special coverage 14119 ( I was aware of the issue ). Dealership refused to do work for free as stated in service bulletin. Called GM Corporate and they also said work would would not be done for free. 14119 specifically stated that power steering motor would be changed and I quote " at no cost to the customer " unquote. They want $175 just to look at my vehicle. When does the " at no cost to the customer " come in, apparently we seem to have forgotten that. I would like some legal clarification to this from the nhtsa.

The power steering keeps going out. This caused my 15 year old daughter to nearly run into a concrete barrier wall on her way to school. It sent her into a panic and scared the life out of her.

Car has developed a fuel leak once again in the rear of the vehicle. this is the second time a fuel leak has been noted. the first time the mechanic replaced a portion of the line that had corroded and was leaking fuel near the driver rear tire. now the leak is in another section of the original pipe near the fuel tank. this is poor quality and engineering.

The fuel line on the left back side of the car (back drivers side) was leaking fuel when it was in parking or sitting and idling. Noted fuel smell when car started up and was idling, car was taken to independent mechanic, fuel line was broke in 2 places. It was broke close by the wheel are and the other spot was back by the exhaust

Fuel leak coming from the Left (Drivers Side) of the vehicle in the area of the rear wheel. There was a strong odor of fuel, Fuel was observed dripping to the ground under the vehicle in front of the Left rear wheel. This condition was observed only when the vehicle was running and in park. The condition does not seem to happen when the vehicle is off and not running. No repair has been made yet , vehicle can be inspected in its current condition. This is a severe safety concern of ignition/explosion due to a fuel leak; risk of property damage or even death. This problem has not been addressed yet to a dealer or local mechanic as of yet . Failed component has not yet been inspected by GM, Police or insurance. No warning lamps or messages were illuminated on dashboard, prior to failure, vehicle did have some difficulty starting, possibly due to this problem, but it did start.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet HHR. The contact stated while driving at various speeds between 30-65 MPH, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to steer and the vehicle lost electrical power. The contact stated that she would veer to the side of the road or park the vehicle whenever the failure occurred. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that upon attempting to restart the vehicle and inserting the key in the ignition switch, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that she continually turned the key in the ignition switch until the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly and the vehicle failed to restart after several attempts. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under an NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V171000 (Electrical System) however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

2007 CHEVY HHR WITH MILEAGE 63,223. NO PROBLEMS UNTIL 11/05/14 RECALL 14063 IGNITION SWITCH AND 14113 LOCK CYLINDER WERE REPLACED. 20 DAYS LATER AFTER FIGHTING WITH GM AND DEALERSHIP FOR 3 WEEKS IT WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. TESTED CHARGING SYSTEM AND FOUND BATTERY TO FAIL. REPLACED BATTERY, VEHICLE STARTED AND KEY RELEASED UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I WENT TO START IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION AGAIN. 01/30/15 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP CAME TO MY HOUSE PICKED UP THE HHR AND TOOK IT IN FOR RECALL SPECIAL COVERAGE 14632 FLOOR SHIFTER REPLACED. BEFORE I COULD GET THE VEHICLE BACK THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND INFORMED ME THE NEW BATTERY HAD FROZEN AND WOULD NOT ACCEPT A CHARGE. I REPLACED THAT BATTERY WITH ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS I NEEDED A NEW BODY CONTROL MODULE ESTIMATED PARTS AND LABOR $600 BEFORE I WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT. I HAVE NOT DROVE THE VEHICLE IN OVER A YEAR. KEY FOB WOULDN'T EVEN UNLOCK THE DOORS. UPDATE....7/13 ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. STARTED 7/13 - 7/22. 7/23 KEY FOB WOUDLN'T EVEN OPEN DOORS. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND KEY LOCKED IN THE IGNITION AGAIN. DEALERSHIP FAILED TO DISCONNECT BATTERY WHILE WAITING FOR REPAIR PARTS AND KILLED A BRAND NEW BATTERY. BATTERY REPLACED 7/13 STILL STARTING 7/18

THIS COMPLAINT CONCERNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR LT WHICH WAS PURCHASED AS A NEW VEHICLE. IT IS 'ALWAYS GARAGED'. IT HAS 36,1XX ORIGINAL MILES. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO WE BEGAN TO NOTICE 'CHUNKS' OF RUST GATHERING UNDER THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AN INSPECTION MADE BY SELF REVEALED EXTENSIVE RUST-OUT TO THE "REAR REINFORCEMENT BAR" (PART #10 IN THE ENCLOSED DIAGRAM). I CONTACTED "GM" VIA THEIR 'SOCIAL MEDIA CUSTOMER CARE CENTER', THOROUGHLY EXPLAINED THE ISSUE, AND WAS DIRECTED TO A LOCAL BUICK/GMC DEALERSHIP FOR AN EVALUATION, WITHIN HOURS I HEARD A NEGATIVE RESPONSE TO MY REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE. SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTS BY SELF HAVE NOT GIVEN ME A SATISFACTORY EXPLANATION AS TO THE "WHY" OF THIS RUSTED PART. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED TO A HIGH DEGREE. THE EXAMINER TOLD ME HE DID NOT OBSERVE ANY OTHER RUST ISSUES ON OR UNDER THIS VEHICLE. KEEP IN MIND THAT I AM NOT AN 'AUTOMOTIVE' ENGINEER; BUT- TO MY 'UNTRAINED EYE' PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PART IS DEEPLY HIDDEN WITHIN THE REAR BUMPER COVER; AND THE DESIGN OF THE REAR BUMPER COVER IS SUCH THAT IT FOSTERS THE COLLECTION OF DEBRIS FROM THE ROAD ON IT'S HORIZONTAL SURFACES. THIS DEBRIS THEN IS IN SITU WITH THE METAL PARTS OF THE ACTUAL 'REAR BUMPER'. GIVEN TIME THE DEBRIS RETAINS MOISTURE WHICH 'APPARENTLY' THEN COVERS THE METAL PARTS. ...AND ONE GETS THE RESULTS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS. NONE OF THIS WOULD BE VISIBLE UNLESS A PERIODIC, CAREFUL EXAMINATION OF THE HIDDEN PARTS WERE TO BE MADE BY THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE. A "POSSIBLE" MEASURE TO BE TAKEN WOULD BE FOR GENERAL MOTORS TO EDUCATE/INFORM OWNER/OPERATORS AS TO THE POTENTIAL FOR A PROBLEM. ANOTHER "POSSIBLE" SOLUTION, WERE THIS A VEHICLE STILL IN PRODUCTION (AND NOT YET ANOTHER GM 'ORPHAN' CAR) WOULD BE, OF COURSE, TO CORRECT THE APPARENT, ORIGINAL 'DESIGN DEFICIENCY'.

I GOT INTO MY CAR WITH NO PROBLEM, WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR I COULD NOT BECAUSE THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. I HAD TO LET THE WINDOW DOWN TO GET OUT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES DETACHED FROM THE DOORS. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES TO OPEN THE CAR DOORS FROM INSIDE CAR BROKE OFF ON BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SIDES. THE ONLY WAY NOW TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IS TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WE COULD NOT EASILY GET OUT, POSING A LIFE THREATENING DANGER. VEHICLE STATIONARY.

EXCESSIVE RUST ON INTERNAL REAR BUMPER SUPPORT. IT'S TO THE POINT OF FLAKING. THIS METAL SUPPORT IS MOUNTED TO THE BODY, BETWEEN THE VEHICLE BODY AND PLASTIC COVER. THIS IS ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 31,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE SINCE TRIED TO COVER THE EXPOSED AREAS WITH A INDUSTRIAL RUST CONVERTER CHASSIS SAVER TYPE OF PAINT.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet HHR. The contact stated while exiting the driveway of a restaurant, the steering wheel failed to respond as needed. The contact turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. There were unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to a second independent mechanic who informed the contact that the key was stuck in the ignition switch and the electrical system was burned. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

While driving, more specific while turning the powersteering goes out at any given time. It has also done this while switching lanes on the freeway.

While driving the vehicle approximately 45mph, the power steering light came on the dash. While driving straight was not an issue, attempting to pull off the road was difficult. I checked owners manual which told me to take it to a dealer. This in itself was bothersome. I opened the hood and called my mechanic, who told me to check fuses. I replaced the fuse and the vehicle was fine for about 4 weeks, but once again driving 30-35 mph, the light came on the dashboard. I have saved both replaced fuses, I’m wondering after reading other reports whether the fuses are even blown? Either way, this is not a safe situation to be driving any speed without power steering. Mine is a 2007 Chevrolet HHR with approximately 163 k miles

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT AND ALARM WOULD FLASH AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE POWER STEERING TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

OWNERS HAVE BEEN BRINGING THEIR HHR'S TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS WITH THIS PROBLEM SINCE 02/06/07. OUT OF 73 COMPLAINTS ON THE 2007 CHEVROLET HHR 19 COMPLAINTS, OR 26% OF THE COMPLAINTS ARE RELATED TO THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE ROTORS THAT CHEVROLET IS USING ON THE VEHICLES, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. MOST COMPLAINTS ARE AT LOW MILEAGE, AND ARE NEW VEHICLES. SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS SOME KIND OF DEFECT IN THE METAL THAT IS BEING USED TO MAKE THE ROTORS. DRIVING AND PUSHED ON CLUTCH TO CHANGE GEARS , I HEARD A SNAP AND THE CLUTCH LOST ALL PRESSURE AND WENT TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION BY A MECHANIC , IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CLUTCH CYLINDER HAD PUNCHED THROUGH THE FIREWALL. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AND IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE POWER STEERING TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT MAKES THE CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND MANEUVER. TURNING THE ENGINE OFF, RESETS THE MODULE AND IT WILL WORK FOR A BIT. THERE IS A CLICK JUST BEFORE IT GOES OUT. TWICE THE CLICK OCCUR HAS OCCURRED WHILE TURNING A CORNER. IN BOTH INSTANCES THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. NO WARNING, EXCEPT A CLICK, AND THEN NO ABILITY TO DRIVE THE CAR, BECAUSE IT HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM MY HOUSE, SO I CONTINUED HOME---MANHANDLING THE STEERING WHEEL THROUGH EACH TURN UNTIL I ARRIVED IN MY DRIVEWAY. IT HAS HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES SINCE THEN, AND I CONTINUE TO DRIVE UNTIL I GET TO A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL, TURN THE CAR OFF, AND RESTART IT. I SCHEDULED A REPAIR AND HEARD NOTHING ELSE. I HAVE BEEN CALLING FOR MONTHS AND LEAVING MESSAGES WITH NO RETURN CALLS, OR THEY WOULD TELL ME THEY WERE GOING TO CHECK ON THIS AND CALL ME BACK NEVER TO BE HEARD FROM AGAIN. MY RIGHT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE FAILED AND BLEW OUT IN 3 PLACES CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO SLAM INTO CONCRETE GUARDRAILS WHILE I WAS ON THE INSIDE CORNER OF THE HIGHWAY AND RAINING. THE TIRE HAD WHAT WAS TOLD AS AN EGG DEVELOP INSIDE THE TIRE BURSTING OUT. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH SUBJUGATION TOWARDS GM TO FIND OUT WHY THE TIRED FAILED; JUST THAT THEY REPLACED THE TIRE AND STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RECEIVE PICTURES OF THE TIRE NOR HOW THE TIRE WAS DISPOSED. The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet HHR. The contact stated while her aunt was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal gasoline odor inside the vehicle. After a visual inspection, it was discovered that there was fuel leaking from the rear of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to a past NHTSA investigation but was unable to provide specific information. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.

LUCKILY, MY BRAKES WERE STRONG ENOUGH TO OVERPOWER THE ACCELERATOR. I STOPPED THE CAR AND SHUT IT OFF. I WAS STRANDED. MY MOM CAME DOWN AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND IT WAS FINE. I HAD HER DRIVE ME HOME SINCE I AM EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT. THIS WAS A REALLY SCARY OCCURANCE AND I AM WORRIED IT MAY HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO GET IT FIXED BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. SO HERE I AM WITH A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS VEHICLE WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT MAY BE WRONG. IN ADDITION, AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME HAVE BEEN IN ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF IT. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE BEFORE THIS IS RECALLED? A DEATH? OUT OF NO WHERE, SPEED ODOMETER WENT TO FLASHING AND CAR WOULD NOT SPEED UP EVEN WHEN PUSHING THE GAS... THESE VEHICLES ARE DANGEROUS! THE PROBLEMS WITH MINE ARE ON-GOING DESPITE SEVERAL REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT ATTEMPTS. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED FIVE TIMES SINCE PURCHASING IT NEW. BRAKING AT HIGHER SPEEDS IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. THE VEHICLE SHAKES, LURCHES SHIMMIES AND FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES HAVE LOCKED UP. STOPPING ON A HILL IS A SCARY EXPERIENCE. THE ONLY REASON GM HAS NOT BEEN FORCED TO RECALL THESE CARS IS BECAUSE NO ONE HAS DIED YET. IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR ME TO DETAIL WHAT IS RIGHT WITH THE CAR THAN TRY TO EXPLAIN ALL OF ITS PROBLEMS. WHEN PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, THE KEY WOULD NOT REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION. ALSO, THE CAR COULD BE SHIFTED THROUGH THE GEARS WITHOUT PRESSING THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER. THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CAN BE BUMPED INTO AND OUT OF VARIOUS GEARS. AFTER OPENING THE CENTER CONSOLE, I DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC PLUNGER THAT GOES DOWN THROUGH THE SHIFTER HAD BROKEN, AND IN THE PROCESS ALLOWED THE METAL PIN THAT CLOSES THE CONTACT WITH THE IGNITION TO COME LOOSE. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 - 10 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS, WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. WE HAVE TWO ISSUES ELECTRICAL, WHY DID HIS CAR TURN OFF WHEN IT WAS HIT FROM THE REAR? DID THE IMPACT KNOCK THE IGNITION SWITCH OUT OF PLACE? ALSO WHY DIDN'T THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY? NOW I KNOW IF THE CAR IS OFF THE AIRBAGS ARE OFF BUT WHY DID THE CAR GO FROM ON TO COMPLETELY OFF UNLESS IT WAS A FAULTY NEW PART THAT WE RECEIVED IN OUR CAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON AN ICY AND SNOWY ROAD SURFACE, THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AS THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO A PARKING LOT WHERE THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT DRIVE TRAIN AND BOTH FRONT INNER CHROME WHEELS WERE COMPLETELY IMPACTED WITH SNOW. THE CONTACT CLEARED OFF THE SNOW FROM THE AFFECTED AREAS AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING ON A ROAD WITH SNOW OF SIX INCHES OR MORE. MY CLUTCH WENT OUT AND THE CAR STOPPED WORKING GAS I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS NOT DURING A SHIFT, JUST ACCELERATION. THE CLUTCH DID THE EXACT SAME THING ON DECEMBER 23, 2013 (MILEAGE ABOUT 115,000). I HAVE DRIVEN MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS PREVIOUSLY AND HAVE GONE WELL OVER 100K MILES WITHOUT REPLACING THE CLUTCH AND I AM NOW ON MY 3RD CLUTCH. THE POWER STEERING HAS BEEN GOING OUT PERIODICALLY...LAST TIME WAS ON A EXIT RAMP ON THE CURVE. I ALMOST PUT IT IN THE DITCH. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE COBALT HAD RECALLS ON THESE ITEMS BUT NOT THE HHR. WHICH MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE OF THE SAME CHASSIS AND ALL. ON AUGUST 28, 2012, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR WENT OUT ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WE WENT ACROSS THE ONCOMING LANE AND IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD FOR MY HUSBAND TO GET IT BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE. ON 8/30/2012, WE TOOK IT TO A GM GARAGE AND THEY REPLACED IT WITH A REMAN. POWERING STEERING MOTOR, GIVING US A ONE YEAR/12,000 MILE WARRANTY.. ON JULY 9, 2013, I WAS DRIVING THE HHR OUT OF STATE AND WAS COMING OUT OF A SLIGHT LEFT HAND CURVE WHEN THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WENT OUT AGAIN, WHICH I WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER THE CAR AND IT ENDED UP IN THE RIGHT HAND BANK/DITCH. LESS THAN ONE YEAR AND LESS THAN 12,000 MILES LATER, THE GM GARAGE SAID THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP IF WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THEM. MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD. I WAS FORCED TO JERK MY WHEEL VERY SUDDENLY AND STRAINED MY WRIST. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT OPENED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND OPENED THE DOOR FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OF THE STEERING FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE IS A MASSIVE BLIND SPOT TO THE DRIVERS FRONT LEFT SIDE. THIS PREVENTS BEING ABLE TO SEE MEDIANS GOING INTO A LEFT HAND TURN. I WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE I HAVE COME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING THEM 5 TIMES OR SO BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF VISIBILITY. THIS MOST RECENT TIME, I TRIED MY BEST TO JUDGE THE MEDIANS LOCATION, BUT WHEN IT ENTERED INTO THE BLIND SPOT, I JUDGED THE BEST I COULD AND STILL HIT THE CURB. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT IN ALL MY DRIVING YEARS (7 YEARS!).. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD HIT ANYTHING. WHEN IT IS COLD THE SUSPENSION SEEMS LIKE THE CAR IS GOING TO FALL APART. THE POWER STEERING COMES AND GOES. I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY HHR PURCHASED NEW AND THE WHOLE CAR SHIMMIES AND SHAKES WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, WORSE WHEN GOING DOWN HILL OR WHEN YOU NEED THEM MOST EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS OF 20 OR 30 MPH. MY MECHANICS HAVE NEVER SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM AS LONG AS I HAVE OWNED THEM, NOR SAID BRAKES OR ROTORS NEEDED REPAIR OR REPLACED. IT WOULD BE EASIER TO LIST THE THINGS THAT ARE OK WITH THIS CAR. I'VE RESURFACED OR REPLACED THE ROTORS SEVERAL TIMES (FOUR TIMES IN ONE YEAR) AFTER CONSISTENTLY COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THINGS WERE FALLING OFF THE CAR. THE CAR'S BRAKING AND STEERING CAPACITY IS EXTREMELY DIMINISHED. I'VE REPLACED A BROKEN STABILIZER CONTROL ARM AND NOW I'M TOLD THE FRONT END NEEDS TO BE REBUILT. THIS DAMAGE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH THE ROTOR WARPING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON MORE THAN OFF AND ITS BEEN IN AT LEAST 10 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. DRIVER WAS LEAVING PARKING LOT WHEN PASSENGER SIDE (RIGHT FRONT) CV SHAFT BROKE COMPLETELY IN HALF AT 35,440 MILES WITHOUT WARNING. CV SHAFT COULD BE HEARD SLAPPING AROUND UNDER CAR WHILE MOTOR RUNNING IN GEAR, PROBABLY TEARING UP OTHER COMPONENTS UNDER THE HOOD AND SUSPENSION. THE CV SHAFT BREAKAGE LEFT THE VEHICLE UNDER NO POWER BECAUSE PASSENGER WHEEL IS THE DRIVE WHEEL....VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS INTO TRAFFIC. OWNER HAD TO PUSH CAR BACKWARDS OUT OF TRAFFIC AND INTO PARKING LOT. VEHICLE WOULD STILL ROLLED WHILE IN PARK, HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE TO MAKE VEHICLE STATIONARY. I WAITED 2.5HRS FOR GM ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET TOW TRUCK TO MY VEHICLE. 1ST TOW TRUCK DIDN'T COME DUE TO GM NOT CHECKING TO SEE HOW FAR THEY WERE FROM VEHICLE LOCATION. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JBA CHEVROLET (GLEN BURNIE, MD) ON JUNE 25TH, 09 (NEXT DAY). I WENT TO DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ON CAR AND GET LOANER. JBA OFFERED NO LOANER STATING THAT SERVICE DEPT NOT OPEN AND THEY MUST DIAGNOSE FIRST AND WAIT UNTIL MONDAY AND THEN MAYBE I GET A LOANER. ALSO GM CUST ASST 1-800 NUMBER STATED I COULD RENT AND GET REIMBURSE BUT I DON'T TRUST GM AND MONEY AT ALL AFTER SEEING HOW OTHERS TREATED ABOUT AND HOW POORLY THEY MANAGE THEIR OWN MONEY. THIS CV SHAFT INCIDENT HAPPENED 1 WEEK AFTER GETTING CAR BACK FROM DEALERSHIP FOR BRAKE OVERHEATING/WARPING AND HEAT SHIELD GRINDING PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC THEN STATED HE KNEW BRAKES WERE CHEAPLY MADE AND PROBLEM BUT NO RECALL AND IF OVER 36,000 MILES...THEY WON'T BE FREE ANYMORE.... CV SHAFT LOOKED TO BE MADE OF CHEAP ALUMINUM CAST AND I BELIEVE SAME HEAT PROBLEM THAT MADE CAUSED ROTOR TO WARP, CAUSED CV SHAFT TO BECOME BRITTLE. MY 2007 HHR HAS MADE NOISE WHILE DRIVING SINCE I PURCHASE THE CAR. EVERY 6-12 MONTHS IT SEEMS THAT THIS CAR NEEDS NEW BRAKES I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE 2008 AND HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES TWICE DUE TO BAD TRACTION. RECENTLY I HAD TO REPLACE THE STABILIZER BAR WHICH WAS THE REASON THE CAR MADE NOISE WHILE DRIVING, I KNOW THAT CHEVY IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT TO CONTINUE TO TELL CUSTOMERS THAT IT IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE BRAKES STARTED SHUTTERING AFTER 20000 MILES, THE DEALER FOUND THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND TURNED THE ROTORS. AT 55000 MILES THE TROUBLE HAS RETURNED AND SINCE THE CAR IS OUT OF THE 3 YRS 36000 MILE WARRANTY WILL NOT FIX. THE BRAKES PULSATE BADLY AT THIS POINT AND 2 SERVICE MANAGERS CLAIM IS THE RESULT OF THE ROTORS BEING TOO LIGHT FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR AND IT IS HAPPENING TO MANY CHEVY HHR OWNERS. THE 2ND PROBLEM IS THE ELECTRONIC STEERING. THE STEERING SHAKES WHEN THE WARPED BRAKES ARE APPLIED DUE TO THE PLASTIC GEARS WEARING AND WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING OVER A ROUGH SURFACE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAS SUDDENLY SHUT OFF OVER 20 TIMES, USUALLY WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH. SHE CALLED THE DEALER FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK. WHEN SHE WENT TO TURN IN THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO SELL HER ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THEN REFUSED TO TAKE THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLE BACK. THEY STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO CORROSION OF ONE OF THE PLUGS. THEY REPAIRED THE PLUG CORROSION AND SOME BRAKE ISSUES. THE REPAIR LASTED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH BEFORE RECURRING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,666 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000. PURCHASED 2007 HHR NEW IN OCTOBER 2006. WITH ONLY 249 MILES ON THE CAR, I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED A LOUD BANGING NOISE FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT END. THE COULD NOT VERIFY THE NOISE. SINCE THEN THEY REPLACED TWO SHIFT ASSEMBLIES, ONE STEERING COLUMN AND IN NOVEMBER 2007 THEY REPLACED THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT STRUT. THE BANGING NOISE WAS STILL THERE. NOW THEY THINK IT MAY BE THE CHASSIS TWEAKING ,BUT STILL CANNOT FIND OR FIX THE THE RATTLING NOISE. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE AND THE CAR SURGES WHEN STARTING IT WHILE STILL IN PARK. THE SAY THIS IS NORMAL. GOT THE CAR BACK FROM A REPAIR TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, AND DROVE IT ABOUT TWO DAYS AND THE AC WENT OUT AND STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR, ON A 108 DEGREE TEXAS DAY! THE NEXT MORNING STARTED THE CAR TO GO TO THE DEALER AND THE AIR WAS COLD, BUT ABOUT A HALF HOUR INTO THE TRIP THE AIR WENT OUT AGAIN. SO WE TOOK CAR TO DEALER WHO SAID THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT MAYBE THEY KNOCKED SOMETHING OFF WHEN THEY FIXED THE SENSORS. POOR DESIGN OF THE FRONT BUMPER. THE HOLE ON THE BOTTOM WAS TOO BIG, ALLOWING DEBRIS TO HIT THE AIR CONDITIONER (A/C) CONDENSER AND RADIATOR. THIS WAS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME BUT THE FUNNY THING WA S THAT I WASN'T EVEN DRIVING THE CAR. I TURNED IT ON AND GOT THE AIR CONDITIONER GOING, WHICH WAS COLD AT FIRST. THE CAR SAT FOR A WEEK WHILE I WAS ON VACATION, SO I FOUND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THEY WON'T COVER IT AS A EQUIPMENT FAILURE. INSTEAD THEY CLAIMED SOMETHING FLEW THROUGH IT. CHEVROLET DIDN'T PUT A GRILL IN IT FROM THE FACTORY, WHICH WOULD HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. WARRANTY WON'T COVER IT BECAUSE IT WAS CONSIDERED A ROAD HAZARD, AND WANTED ME TO CLAIM IT ON MY INSURANCE WHICH I THOUGHT WAS INSURANCE FRAUD. I THOUGHT THEY WANTED TO PASS THE BUCK TO SOMEONE ELSE RATHER THAN RECALL ALL THE VEHICLES TO PUT A GRILL ON IT TO PROTECT IT FROM THE ELEMENTS. I OWN A 2007 HHR WITH 6000 MILES ON IT. I DIDN'T HAVE AIR CONDITIONING BECAUSE THEY WON'T WARRANTY IT, AND I DIDN'T HAVE $800 TO FIX IT. THE GM REPRESENTATIVE CAME TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WHILE MY WIFE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP SO SHE GOT TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT IT. HE SAID WELL IT WAS NO DIFFERENT THAN A ROCK HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE LAZY WAY OUT, SAYING THEY DIDN'T WANT TO PROTECT VITAL PARTS OF THE CAR, (RADIATOR,CONDENSER,ETC. BY PUTTING A SIMPLE PIECE OF MESH OR GRILL IN PLACE. THIS SHOULDN'T BE OUR JOB TO MAKE SURE IT WA S PROTECTED. ALSO, THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED WELL,IF WE GET A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT THEN MAYBE THE DESIGNER WILL RECALL IT AND FIX IT. I COULD NOT WAIT FOR THEM TO GET OFF THE LAZY BOY AND FIX A FLAW THEY OVERLOOKED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CAR, BUT CHEVROLET HAD TO GET THEIR HEAD OUT OF THEIR OWN BUTTS AND REALIZE THESE WERE THE REASONS WHY THEY WERE LOSING JOBS, AND STOCKS WERE FALLING, CAR SALES WERE DOWN, AND COMPETITION WA S GETTING STRONGER.
