THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER JEFF DRENNEN CHEVROLET BUICK GMC CADILLAC OF ZANESVILLE (3625 MAPLE AVE, ZANESVILLE, OH 43701 (740) 630-0548) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH AND TUMBLER NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000. *TT CONSUMER COULD NOT START THE CAR.*JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OR DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE KEY COULD BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. IN ADDITION, AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND REMOVING THE KEY, THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE COMPUTER IN THE VEHICLE MADE A "HUMMING NOISE" WHEN THE IGNITION KEY WAS REMOVED AND WAS STILL ACTIVELY CONSUMING POWER IN THE VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, REPLACED THE BATTERY, THE ALTERNATOR, AND THE STARTER; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES PERSISTED. THE DEALER (F.H. DAILEY CHEVROLET, 800 DAVIS ST, SAN LEANDRO, CA 94577, (510) 394-3783) WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that her husband had entered the vehicle and while the key was in the ignition, the vehicle exploded in the engine compartment. There were no warning indicator lights illuminated. There were no reported injuries, air bag deployment, or police report filed. There were fire and flames approximately six feet high. The contact and her husband were able to extinguish the fire. The contact called the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer (Sunset Chevrolet 910 Traffic Ave, Sumner, WA 98390(253) 656-0459) but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who referred her to the local dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000.

PARKING LIGHTS STAY ON, TURN SIGNALS, AND 4 WAY FLASHERS STILL WORK, PULL SWITCH LEVER BACK FOR BRIGHT LIGHTS AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS WORK IN BRIGHT MODE AS LONG AS YOU KEEP HOLDING BACK ON THE LEVER. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT. HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT SEVERAL TIMES AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. REPLACED HAZARD FLASHERS SWITHC, REPLACED MUTLIFUNCTION SWITCH, REPLACED HEADLIGHTS SWITCH. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. NOW LIGHTS ARE OFF AND WON'T COME BACK ON NO MATTER WHAT WE TRY.....LOOKING ON THE INTERNET THIS IS HUGE PROBLEM FOR IMPALA'S COVERING ALOT OF YEARS, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE WHEN YOU LOOSE YOUR HEADLIGHTS TOTALLY AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING.......ONCE THEY GO OUT/OFF IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU STOP, PARK, MOVE, BANG ON THEM, WIGGLE WIRES AND CONNECTORS, THEY MAY OR MAY NOT COME BACK ON. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS I'VE BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WHEN I GO FROM BRIGHT TO DIM MY HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF. THEY COME BACK ON SHORTLY AFTER, IT'S ONLY MY HEADLIGHTS AS I CAN SEE MY SIDE LAMPS ILLUMINATED. QUICKLY GOING BACK TO BRIGHT SEEMED TO BRING THEM ON QUICKER THE SECOND TIME THEY WENT OUT. THESE TWO ISSUES BOTH OCCURRED AS I WAS MEETING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND WENT FROM BRIGHT TO DIM. THEY OCCURRED OVER THE TIME PERIOD OF TWO MONTHS.

THE TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING AND COULD POSE A SAFETY HAZARD AS TO NOT BEING ABLE TO SIGNAL WHICH DIRECTION YOU TRAVELING TO. SO OTHER DRIVERS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO KNOW THAT YOUR ARE MAKING A TURN AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON MANY GM VEHICLES NOT JUST THE IMPALA, SUCH AS GRAND AM, MONTE CARLO, OLDSMOBILE ALERO, AND MORE. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE HAZARD SWITCH RELAY WHICH ALSO CONTROLS THE TURN SIGNALS WHICH IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND PREMATURELY FAILS. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD MAKE A RECALL WITH HOW MANY VEHICLES HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND IS A KNOW ISSUE ON MANY OF THERE CARS.

THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT INTERFERES WITH BOTH STOPPING AND ACCERATING BECAUSE IT MAKES THE CAR STALL . I HAVE TO KIDS AND THIS ACTION TERRIFIES THEM WHENEVER IT HAPPENS. I 'VE SEEN ALOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS FROM COMSUMERS AND I THINK TIMES TIME FOR GMC TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE IT CAUSES A FATAL ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE ENGINE SIMPLY SHUTS OFF WHETHER ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, ON CITY STREETS AT 40 MPH OR BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. USUALLY AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES IT WILL RESTART. THE PROBLEM BEGAN IN FEBRUARY 2019 AND HAS BEEN ONGOING. MY MECHANIC HAS HAD THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES AND I HAVE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC 3 TIMES MAKING SURE NOT TO START THE CAR. IT HAS NO CODES STORED TO HELP MY MECHANIC FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS BUT AS USUALLY EVEN WHEN THEY KEPT IT 2 WEEKS THE CAR FAILED TO STALL ON THEM WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT. I HAVE SEEN ARTICLES AND EVEN COMPLAINTS ON YOUR WEBSITE OF THIS ISSUE. THIS IS SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS AND I CANNOT BELIEVE A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED.

I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY IMPALA WITH A 3.8L V6. TODAY AROUND 3:30 CENTRAL TIME I WENT OUTSIDE TO START MY VEHICLE AND I SAW THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD SO I GOT ANOTHER VEHICLE OF MINE AND PUT ON MY JUMPER CABLES AND ALLOWED THE BATTERY TO CHARGE, AFTER WAITING FOR IT TO CHARGE, I TURNED THE KEY. WHEN I TURNED THE KEY I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION, AND THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLODED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE MECHANIC ALSO SAID THIS WAS VERY COMMON WITH THE RECENT IMPALA'S AND AFTER MANY SUB FRAMES WERE REPLACED DUE TO MISSING VERTICLE WELDS AND FAULTY SUB FRAME WELDS, THE MANUFACTURER{ GENERAL MOTORS} BEGAN USING A LESS EXPENSIVE SUPER GLUE TYPE LOCKING MATERIAL KIT OVER THE FAULTY WELDS, WITH AT LEAST THE LAST 5 REPAIRS AT THIS SHOP COMPLETED AS SUCH. I HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS OF POLICE VEHICLES {IMPALA'S} INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS AFTER CONTROL LOSS, WHICH MAY BE RELATED TO THE MISSING AND FAULTY WELDS. THE LOUD BANGING NOISE IS METAL TO METAL CAUSED BY FLEXING OF THE ALUMINUM SUB FRAME AT THE MISSING/ FAULTY WELDS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROGRESSING FAILURE IN WHICH THE RADIO STAYED ON WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. MY CAR WILL NOT START DUE TO AN ISSUE WITH THE PASSKEY/PASSLOCK SYSTEM. IT IS A ANTI THEFT FUNCTION INSTALLED ON SEVERAL OF THE GM MODELS THAT WHEN IT FAILS TO WORK IT ACTUALLY KEEPS THE OWNER FROM USING THE VEHICLE. AFTER GOING ON LINE TO RESEARCH THIS ISSUE I NOTICED THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM TO HAVE. IN ADDITION TO GETTING THE SYSTEM FIXED MANY OWNERS SAY THAT AFTER ABOUT 3 OR 4 MONTHS THE PROBLEM COMES BACK AND HAVE EVEN DIED ON THEM AS THEY WERE DRIVING. HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ALL FLASHING. THE CAR ALSO WOULD HAVE INCIDENTS WHERE IT WOULDN'T START AND I'D HAVE TO WAIT FOR 10 MINUTES TO RESTART. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THESE PROBLEMS WERE WELL KNOWN IN GM CARS AND WERE CAUSED BY THE BCM AND PASSLOCK SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD THAT INSTALLING A NEW BCM FOR $400 WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IMMEDIATELY, I NOTICED THAT THE FLASHING LIGHTS HAD STOPPED. A MONTH LATER, I WAS LEAVING A GROCERY STORE WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START. I HAD TO WAIT 10 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM IS RESETTING ITSELF AND THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE BCM AGAIN. I HAD A 1 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BCM, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. THE CAR WOULDN'T DO IT WHEN THEY HAD IT, SO THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE BCM WAS THE PROBLEM. I WAS NEVER ABLE TO GET IT REPLACED BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP. I WAITED FOR RECALL PARTS (IGNITION AND OIL LEAK) AND HAD THEM COMPLETED 4/13/16. ON 4/22/16 MY CAR STARTED SMOKING COMING OFF THE FREEWAY, I PULLED OVER AND THE ENGINE STALLED, PEOPLE YELLED TO GET OUT IT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE STARTED IN FRONT OF ENGINE AND PROCEEDED THOUGH ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURNING ALL PLASTICS AND WIRING. DEALERSHIP SAYS I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE FULL INSURANCE COVERAGE. HOW CAN THAT BE, MY CAR WAS FINE UNTIL THEY WORKED ON IT. DEALERSHIP WAS ALSO VERY RUDE AND CONDESCENDING. COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. RECENTLY A COIN FROM THE ASHTRAY ENDED UP IN THE LIGHTER SOCKET. THE LIGHTER AND THE POWER SEATS STOPPED WORKING. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE POWER SEAT CIRCUIT BREAKER. HOWEVER, THE FUSE TO THE LIGHTER HAD NOT SHORTED OUT. INSTEAD, HE SAID, IT MELTED A WIRE UNDERNEATH THE CARPET. THE COST TO REPAIR IT WAS ABOUT $200.00. THE 2004 MODEL HAS A SEPARATE SECTION IN THE ASHTRAY BLOCKED FROM THE SOCKET SO THAT IT COULD NOT HAPPEN ON THE NEWER MODEL. I ASSUME THE ENGINEERING CHANGE WAS MADE BECAUSE MY PROBLEM HAPPENED BEFORE, AND THAT CHANGE WAS MADE TO REDUCE THOSE INSTANCES. I WOULD HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM IF THE FUSE HAD BLOWN WHICH IT DID NOT. I ASKED MY MECHANIC TO REMOVE THE FUSE BECAUSE HE SAID THAT THE MELTED WIRE MIGHT CAUSE A FIRE. I PAID FOR A NEW CIRCUIT BREAKER, AND I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD PAY FOR THE LIGHTER BECAUSE OF THE ENGINEERING OMISSION ON THE EARLIER MODEL. *AK

I HAVE A 2001 IMPALA WE BOUGHT NEW. IT HAS 62,379 MILES. I TOOK IT IN FOR A BRAKE JOB LAST MONTH FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE COMPANY I USE HAS A GOOD REPUTATION IN TOWN. THEY TOLD ME AFTER THE FIRST TURNING OF THE ROTOR WHICH THEY DID THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH METAL LEFT TO TURN AGAIN. THAT SEEMS RIDICULOUS. ALSO, THE CAR AT TIMES WONT START AND HAVE TO LET IT SIT FOR 10-15 MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL START. I HAVE READ A LOT OF REVIEWS ON VARIOUS SITES AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT. I CAN'T AFFORD TO THROW OUT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS JUT HOPING THAT IT WILL BE FIXED. THE ANTILOCKING BRAKES SYSTEM OF MY 2001 IMPALA CAR CORRODED WITH ONLY 5264 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAD TO PAY $760.49 TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. I DROVE THE CAR ONE DAY AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE, THEN THE NEXT WEEK WHEN I DROVE THE CAR, EVERYTIME THAT I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, THERE WAS THIS TERRRIBLE SCRAPING, NOISE, EVEN AFTER THE CAR HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT WAS SO LOUD THAT EVERYONE ON THE STREET AND IN CARS NEXT TO ME WAS TURINING TO LOOK AT MY CAR TO SEE WHERE THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM. I FEARED STEPING ON THE BRAKE AND WAS NOT SURE THAT I COULD GET THE CAR AND MYSELF HOME SAFELY. ON 8/30.05, LIZ CRENSHAW, THE CONSUMER REPORTER FOR CHANNEL 4, NBC NEWS REPORTED AND IT WAS ALSO IN THE WASHINGTON POST NEWSPAPER ON 8/31/05 THAT GM HAD RECALLED PICKUP TRUCKS AND SUV, 1999-2002, BECAUSE OF CORROSION OF THE BRAKES. IT STATED THAT THE NHTSA HAD OPENED THE INVESTIGATION IN APRIL OF MORE THAN 1.2 GM PICKUPS AND SUV'S IN 20 STATES BECAUSE OF QUESTIONS OVER THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR. I E-MAILED CHEVROLET AND A DUSTOMER RELATIONS MANAGER CALLED ME AND DENIED EVEN KNOWING THAT THERE WAS SUCH A STUDY AND RECALL. SHE (HEATHER VOLTZ) SAID THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL WITH REGARD TO SENSORS BUT NOT CORROSION OF THE ABS. SHE WASNTED ME TO SEND HER ALL THE INFORMATION AND I SUGGESTED SHE COULD GO TO YOUR WEBSITE AND READ IT THE SAME AS I DID. SHE IS NOW WAITING FOR ME TO SEND HER THE COPY OF THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE FROM THE WASHINGTON POST, WHICH SHE COULD ALSO LOOK UP ON THEIR WEBSITE. I AM GOING TO SEND THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE. THE IGNITION KEEPS LOCKING OUT THE CARS ABILITY TO START. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND WHEN THE KEY IS ROTATED TO THE START POSITION NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. UPON WAITING FOR 10 TO 20 MINUTES THIS VEHICLE WILL THEN RESTART. WHEN TAKEN TO THE GARAGE TO HAVE MAINTENANCE DONE THIS VEHICLE NEVER FAILED FOR THEM ON TWENTY TIMES OF STARTING IN A ROW. TOOK THE CAR HOME AND IT SAT AND NOW IT FAILED AGAIN. MY DAUGHTER IS ABOUT TO BE DISMISSED FROM HER CURRENT JOB BECAUSE OF THIS CONSTANT FAILURE TO START. LATELY, THE TIME HAS GROWN. MY DAUGHTER TOOK A VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT AND HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ON DEC, 12, OUR 2001 IMPALA WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY. IT HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS AND SINCE THE WEATHER WAS COLD, MY HUSBAND WANTED TO MAKE SURE IT WOULD START. WHEN HE TURNED THE KEY, THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION IN THE INJECTOR SYSTEM. FLAMES SHOT OUT AND THE SYSTEM WAS BLOWN APART. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR WAS NOT IN OUR GARAGE AT THE TIME AND HE WAS NOT INJURED. WE CALLED VERMILION CHEVROLET IN DANVILLE, ILLINOIS AND THE PERSON WHO ANSWERED SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE FUEL REGULATOR THAT HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HE SEEMED TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. WE HAD RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL FOR POSSIBLE UNDER THE HOOD FIRES, BUT HE TOLD US THAT WAS FOR A LEAKY VALVE COVER GASKET, NOT THE FUEL REGULATOR. WE HAVE COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE, BUT THEY ARE BALKING AT COVERING THE DAMAGE. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY ESTIMATES ON GETTING IT REPAIRED YET. WE ARE STILL WAITING ON THE INSURANCE. AFTER THE FIRE WAS OUT I NOTED THE ENTIRE ENGINE COVER AND THE TOP OF THE ENGINE UNDER THE COVER WAS IN PIECES ALL OVER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND IT APPEARED THE EXPLOSION WAS INSIDE THE AIR PLENUM/ INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM STARTED MALFUNCTIONING AT ABOUT 89000 MILES. IT APPEARED TO BE A FAULTY WHEEL HUB. AFTER REPLACING THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT, IT WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS. AFTER INSPECTING EVERYTHING WITHIN ABOUT 2 FEET OF THE WHEELS, IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S FARTHER UP THE LINE. THE ABS UNIT WILL CYCLE A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE ABS LIGHT KICKS ON TO SAY THERE'S A PROBLEM. UNTIL THIS HAPPENS (ONCE THE LIGHT IS ON, THE ABS SYSTEM STOPS KICKING IN) BRAKING IS ALMOST UNRESPONSIVE, AND AT BEST, INTERMITTENT. FROM EVERYTHING WE CAN TELL, THIS IS A SERIOUS AND ALL TOO COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. INTAKE GASKET FAILURE. I NOTICED THAT THE ANTIFREEZE IN MY VEHICLE WAS OFTEN LOW, SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GET DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO GET THE INTAKE GASKET REPLACED AND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON IMPALA'S. HE STATED THAT ALL OF THESE VEHICLES WILL NEED TO HAVE THE GASKET REPLACED AND THAT GM IS AWARE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, BUT SINCE THEY HAVEN'T BEEN FORCED TO RECALL THE VEHICLES, THEN THEY'RE GOING TO REPLACE THE GASKETS. THIS IS QUITE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO COSTS AT THIS TIME. I CONTACTED GM FOR ASSISTANCE AND THEY STATED THAT THE MILEAGE ON MY CAR PREVENTS ME FROM BEING ABLE TO BE ASSISTED. AS ANY SERIOUS CAR OWNER, I TRIED TO ADDRESS THE CHEAPER ITEMS SUCH AS BATTERY REPLACEMENT AND SPARK PLUGS, ALL HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. SLOWLY ALL THE ELECTRICAL APPLICATIONS IN MY CAR BEGAN TO STOP WORKING FROM THE BLINKERS, RADIO, HAZARDS, CRUISE CONTROL, CAR WINDOWS, AND FINALLY THE CAR STOPPED STARTING. I WAS TOO BROKE TO ADDRESS IT THEN, SO EVERY EARLY MORNING MY CAR WOULD REQUIRE A NICE JUMP START TO BEGIN THE DAY. THIS IMPALA WOULD NOT START SO OFTEN THAT I PURCHASED A PORTABLE BATTERY TO JUMP IT EVERYWHERE, EVEN AS SIMPLE AS THE GAS STATION. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE PARASITIC DRAIN (DRAIN ON THE CAR BATTERY) WAS COMING FROM THE DASH CLUSTER/INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH WAS IN LINE WITH THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE DISCOVERED ON GOOGLE THAT THE BCM WAS CAUSING NON-STARTER ISSUES FOR OTHER IMPALAS. HOWEVER, ONCE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS REPLACED MY RADIO WAS STILL NOT WORKING AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR BECAME A NON-STARTER AGAIN; THEREFORE, I SUSPECTED THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE STILL HAND NOT BEEN DISCOVERED. I EXPLAINED THIS TO MR. MCGHEE, THE OWNER OF MCGHEES AUTO SHOP, HE DID A THOROUGH JOB OF COMBING ALL THE INTRICATE WIRES TO DETERMINE FINALLY AN INTERMITTENT DRAW OCCURRING FROM THE AMPLIFIER IN THE TRUNK OF THE CAR. THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, FIXING THE AMPLIFIER, COST A GRAND TOTAL OF 220$ TO HAVE THE ACTUAL PART FIXED; I DID NOT WANT TO RISK PLACING A NON-STOCK AMPLIFIER, MY SPECIFIC AMPLIFIER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, IN THE CAR. HOWEVER, I LIKE OTHER CONSUMERS CONTINUALLY PAID TO REPLACE PARTS THAT FAILED AS IT WAS NOT OBVIOUS THERE WAS AN UNDERLYING MALFUNCTIONING IN A PARTICULAR APPLICATION THAT MADE THE ESSENTIAL PRODUCT USELESS.

2001 CHEVY IMPALA I WENT OUTSIDE TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD, IT HAD ENOUGH POWER TO POWER UP THE LIGHTS ETC. HOWEVER, IT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO START THE ENGINE. I THAN MOVED ANOTHER VEHICLE UP NEXT TO IT AND CONNECTED JUMPER CABLES. I WAITED FOR IT TO CHARGE AND TURNED THE KEY. WHEN I TURNED THE KEY OVER, THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD VIOLENTLY EXPLODED. I HAD A HUGE FIRE UNDER MY HOOD. THE EXPLOSION SHOT PARTS ACROSS MY YARD. I HAD TO USE THE WATER HOSE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT, THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 10 FEET FROM MY HOME. I LEFT IT ALONE AND CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP MECHANIC THE VERY NEXT DAY. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD RECENTLY HAD 2 OF THE SAME VEHICLES COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THAT IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR AND THE FACT THAT THE MANIFOLD IS MADE OF PLASTIC. THIS EXPLOSION COULD HAVE VERY WELL KILLED SOMEONE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE, AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON OVER 900,000 OF THESE VEHICLES, HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL LIST ACCORDING TO GENERAL MOTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!! *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHEN THE CONTACT'S WIFE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BEFORE JUMPING THE DEAD BATTERY, THE FUEL SYSTEM BYPASSED THROUGH A REGULATOR AND CREATED AN EXPLOSION. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE, IT WAS NOT DESTROYED AND WAS CAPABLE OF BEING REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE PURCHASE DATE AND RECALL NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 131,000.

THIS CAR HAS BEEN A ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL NIGHTMARE AND I'M FINDING MANY, MANY, REPORTS ON THE INTERNET OF OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM(S). 1) INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAKS CAUSING CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND EGR VALVE TO CLOG. THE RESULT OF THIS IS EXHAUST GASES CAN'T ESCAPE , BACKING UP AND BURNING/BLOWING A HOLE IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ITSELF. ALL ABOVE ITEMS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A VERY SUBSTANTIAL COST. 2) BLINKERS INTERMITTENTLY WORK. MOSTLY THEY DON'T WORK. THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE (FLASHER) MODULE LOCATED IN THE DASH BEHIND THE 'FLASHER" BUTTON. THIS IA VERY,VERY COMMON. 3) A/C HEATER BLOWER FAN STOPS WORKING ON SPEEDS 1,2 THEN 3 RESULTING. THIS IS DUE TO RESISTORS BURNING UP ON A MODULE MOUNTED BEHIND THE DASH AND IN FRONT OF THE BLOWER MOTOR. MY QUESTION HERE IS, AT WHAT POINT DOES SOMEONE HOLD THE MANUFACTURER RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE OBVIOUS FACTORY DEFECTS. NUMEROUS THINGS HAVE GONE WRONG WITH MY 2001 MONTE CARLO. 5 OR 6 TIMES THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPAIRED THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WHERE IT CONTINUALLY POPS OUT. I AM REALLY CONCERNED WHEN IT MIGHT EXPLODE W/O A CRASH OR IF THERE IS A DRIVER SIDE CRASH IF IT WILL COME OUT TO PROTECT ME. STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION POPS. THE TRACTION SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATING FOR NO REASON. SERVICE ABS LIGHT CAME ON IN VEHICLE. DEALER REPLACED LEFT WHEEL HUB, INCLUDING SENSOR. PROBLEM RECURRED THE DAY AFTER AND THE WRONG ASSEMBLY WAS INSTALLED, THE CORRECT ASSEMBLY WAS INSTALLED. ONE MONTH LATER PROBLEM RECURRED. DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION ON WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY. SEVEN MONTHS LATER PROBLEM RECURRED. DEALER NOW SAYS THE RIGHT HUB ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACING, AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING ANY SPEED THERE WAS A BANGING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN ACCOMPANIED BY A VIBRATION. THE BANGING AND THE VIBRATION BECAME GRADUALLY WORSE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO EITHER SIDE. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE WHEEL SENSORS STOPPED WORKING, CAUSING ABS FAILURE. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WHEEL SENSORS, RESET THE CODES, REPLACED THE RIGHT AND LEFT REAR WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY, AND RESURFACED ALL FOUR ROTORS ON THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR SEEMED TO HAVE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL THERE IS A CLANKING NOISE. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 04-02-35-0048 DEALT WITH THE STEERING PROBLEM. I TOOK MY 2001 IMPALA TO THE GM DEALER AT 23K MILES FOR A NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN, AT THAT TIME THEY SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE AN INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT PLUS OTHER ISSUES NON RELATED. AT 73K THEY REMOVED THE SHAFT AND LUBED IT AND REPLACED LEFT OUTER TIE ROD FOR $510+. AT 98K MY FRONT WHEEL HUBS WERE REPLACED AND THEY REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AGAIN AND CHARGED ME $125 FOR THE SHAFT AND ANOTHER $975+ FOR THE REST. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR BACK TWO WEEKS LATER FOR YET ANOTHER STEERING PROBLEM THEY SAID IT WAS MY RACK AND PINION THIS TIME AND CHARGED ME $1083. THAT WAS TODAY, TONIGHT ON MY WAY HOME WITH MY WIFE, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING WHILE TURNING RIGHT ON AN EXIT RAMP. I CALLED 1-800-GM AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME EXCEPT OFFER ME A GM LOYALTY CERT GOOD FOR SOME $ OFF A PURCHASE OF A NEW GM PRODUCT. OUR 2001 CHEVY IMPALA HAS HAD BRAKE AND ROTOR PROBLEMS SINCE THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES. THE ROTORS WERE CUT TWICE AND REPLACED ONCE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THE CAR PULSATES WHEN REDUCING SPEED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN BRAKING. WE JUST SPENT $1,449 AT THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE THE ROTORS ONCE AGAIN REPLACED AND BRAKES REPLACED ALONG WITH THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM. IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AS THE VEHICLE HAS 65,000 MILES. THERE IS NO REASON BRAKE ROTORS SHOULD HAVE TO BE CUT OR REPLACED EVERY 6,000 MILES. WE OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA , VIN # [XXX], THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW. WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS CLUNK NOISE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE REPAIR CALLED FOR IN THE TSB, LUBRICATION OF THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT USING LUBRICATION KIT # [XXX]. THIS REPAIR LASTED ABOUT 30 DAYS. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND SINCE I HAVE 38000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE NO COVERAGE FROM CHEVROLET IS AVAILABLE. *AK THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CHEVROLET SINCE BEFORE JULY OF 2002 WHEN THE TSB WAS ISSUED. 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA HAS A RECURRING INCIDENT OF CLICKING NOISES AT RIGHT FRONT STEERING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS IS SUPPLEMENTAL TO THE VEHICLE DEVELOPING A UNEVEN WEAR AT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT ROTATING THE TIRES WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS THE PROBLEM GREW WORSE (INCLUDING A BADLY SHIMMYING FRONT END AT HIGH SPEEDS),I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACKED WELD ON IT CHASIS AND REPAIRED IT. WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE TIRES, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE NEW ONES AT MY OWN EXPENSE. A SMOOTH RIDE WITH NEW TIRES WAS SHORT LIVED, AS A BADLY SHIMMYING FRONT END HAD DEVELOPED AGAIN (WITHIN 24 HOURS). TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SECOND DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS A WORN TIE ROD. ONCE THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED, I PERIODICALLY HEARD LIGHT CLICKING NOISED FROM THE STEERING WHEN MAKING TURNS (RIGHT & LEFT). TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SECOND DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF LUBRICATION. ONCE LUBRICATED, THE VEHICLE STOPPED MAKING CLICKING NOISES FOR ABOUT 30 T0 40 DAYS. I NOTICED THAT THE CLICKING NOISES BEGAN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN OVER UNEVEN AREAS OF A ROAD OR PARKING LOT, OR WHEN THE VEHICLE NEGOTIATES TIGHT LEFT TURNS (LOW SPEEDS) AND WIDE/SWEEPING LEFT CURVES AT HIGH SPEEDS. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER, AND THEY SAID THAT WIRES UNDER THE DASH HAD BEEN CUT.*AK ALSO THE REAR DEFROGGER WAS INOPERATIVE, THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE WAS INACCURATE, AND THE DOORS THAT MOVE THE AIRFLOW FROM THE WINDSHILED TO THE FLOOR DID NOT MOVE THE AIR TO THE SPECIFIED AREA, THE DEALER ORDERED AN ACTUATOR FOR THE DOORS AND FOR THE AIRFLOW, AN AFTERMARKET DEVICE THAT WAS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY STALL WHILE DRIVING. *JB
