THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE KEY DISLODGED FROM THE IGNITION. ADDITIONALLY, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER DUE TO THE KEY NOT REMAINING IN THE RUN POSITION. THE CONTACT WOULD MANUALLY REMOVE AND REPLACE THE KEY FOR NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO O'RIELLY CHEVROLET LOCATED AT 6160 E BROADWAY BLVD, TUCSON, AZ 85711, WHERE IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE REPAIR WAS STILL PENDING. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. WHILE DRIVING ON A SMOOTH DARK COUNTRY ROAD AT A SPEED OF 50 MPH TIME 10:35PM I HAD ACTIVATED THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS AND APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS LATER THE HEADLAMPS WENT OFF LEAVING ONLY THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON. VISIBILITY WAS INSTANTLY DECREASED TO AN UNSAFE LEVEL WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. I HAD IMMEDIATELY REACTIVATED THE LOW BEAMS WITH THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH AND THE HEADLAMPS (LOW BEAM) RESUMED OPERATION. PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE THE HIGH BEAM HEADLAMPS WERE NOT IN OPERATION FOR ANY LONG PERIODS OF TIME. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING COULD LEAD TO THE PROBABILITY OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS ELECTRICAL HEADLAMP PROBLEM SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS A VEHICLE SAFETY RECALL. I HAVE CHECKED ON-LINE RESOURCES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUES WITH CHEVROLET IMPALAS FROM THE 2000-2005 MODEL YEARS.

DRIVING AT NIGHT, I TURNED ON MY HIGH BEAMS AND MY HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO DEVELOP A SHUDDER AT 140000 MILES. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET LOOKED AT. THE LAS RESORT WOULD BE TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS ISSUE CAUSES THE CAR TO NOT TAKE OFF RIGHT AWAY OR SHAKE PRETTY BAD MAKING IT SEEM OR FEEL THAT IT WILL STOP, SHUT DOWN, OR JAM UP EVEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE MODEL. IT HAPPENS AT STOP LIGHTS, WHILE RUNNING, AND WHILE TURNING. A SUDDEN LOUD NOISE BEGAN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 65-70. THE NOISE LASTED A FEW SECONDS FOLLOWED BY A LOUDER LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE VEHICLE. I ACTIVATED MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULLED INTO THE MEDIAN TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. AFTER OPENING THE SLIDING COVER FOR MY VEHICLE'S SUNROOF, I DISCOVERED THE SUNROOF WAS MISSING AND HAD FLOWN OFF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. I DO NOT BELIEVE ANY VEHICLES WERE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR I NOTICED THAT WHILE DRIVING IT WOULD SOUND LIKE IT WANTED TO CUT OFF AND EVENTUALLY IT DID EVERY TIME I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. EVENTUALLY IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. BUT MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS READING OUT OF WHACK SAYING MY CAR IS OVERHEATING WHEN ITS NOT. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER MY SPEEDOMETER JUST STARTED ACTING UP AS WELL . IT KEEP MOVING UP ALL AROUND AND SOMETIMES MAY STAY ON ZERO. YESTERDAY IT MADE A COMPLETE 360 AND IS STUCK IT AT THE BOTTOM. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2006. ONE YEAR LATER I NOTICED MY SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. I SEARCHED ON LINE AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILING TO WORK. RIGHT AFTER THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND THE FUEL INDICATOR STOPPED WORKING. I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND THAT CHEVY TRUCKS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR CLUSTER FAILURES. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO A CHEVY DEALER AND WAS TOLD I'D HAVE TO PAY $700+ FOR THE REPAIR. THE CLUSTER HASN'T WORKED ALL THESE YEARS AND I'VE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THE CAR ALMOST OVERHEATING, THE CAR RUNNING OUT OF GAS, AND BEING PULLED OVER FOR EXCEEDING THE SPEED LIMIT BECAUSE THE CLUSTER DIDN'T WORK. HOW CAN GM & CHEVY SAY THEY STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS AND NOT RECOGNIZE DEFICIENCIES IN THEIR OWN PRODUCTS UNLESS IT MAKES NATIONAL NEWS. I'VE HELD ONTO THIS CAR AND HAVE MAINTAINED WELL SO I CAN BRAG ABOUT LONGEVITY BECAUSE OF THE CARE I TAKE. I CANNOT BRAG ABOUT GM/CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE OR RESPONSIVENESS, OR CUSTOMER LOYALTY. THE HI BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED, WHICH MADE THE LO BEAM HEADLIGHTS GO OUT WHEN THE HI BEAM WAS ENGAGED. REPAIR SERVICE FOUND A CORRODED "PIN" IN A MULTI-PIN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION.THIS IS A "PROTECTED" CONNECTION, IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, IT HAS BEEN CORRODED FOR A VERY LONG TIME ACCORDING TO THE ELECTRIC SERVICEMAN. HE INFORMED ME THE OTHER "PINS" WILL FAIL ALSO EFFECTING THE WIPERS AND OTHER "NECESSARY" SAFETY COMPONENTS, BECAUSE OF THE CONDITION OF THIS CONNECTOR.

THIS REPORT IS ABOUT SUDDEN AND REPEATED HEADLIGHT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE IN A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA SEDAN, AND A REQUEST FOR A NATIONWIDE SAFETY RECALL AND REPAIR AT GM EXPENSE FOR THIS ISSUE. AFTER GETTING IN MY 2005 IMPALA SEDAN AT APPROXIMATELY 4:55 PM ON 16 FEBRUARY 2012, I STARTED UP AND DROVE OUT ON THE ROAD THEN I SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC AND NOTICED THE HEADLIGHTS (LOW BEAM) WERE OUT. I TRIED THE HIGH BEAMS AND THEY WORKED AS DID THE LEFT AND RIGHT TURN SIGNALS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER CONTROLS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTIONED. AS DARKNESS INCREASED I HAD TO HOLD THE SWITCH IN THE HIGH BEAM POSITION SO I COULD SEE TO DRIVE SO I COULD GET HOME. FROM WHAT I COULD DETERMINE THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE IN THE WIRING TO/FROM THE MULTIFUNCTION LIGHT CONTROL SWITCH OR MAYBE IT IS THE SWITCH ITSELF ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FUSES AND RELAYS AND THE ALL SEEMED TO BE IN WORKING ORDER BUT THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS STILL DID NOT WORK. THIS FAILURE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME NOW. WITH DEALER PARTS COST FOR A REPLACEMENT MULTIFUNCTION LIGHT SWITCH AT $350.00 ALONE, NOT TO MENTION LABOR COSTS AND THE CRITICALITY OF LIGHTS WHILE DRIVING MEANS THIS SHOULD BE A REQUIRED SAFETY RECALL ITEM. I HAVE SEARCHED MECHANICAL FORUMS ON THIS SUBJECT AND THERE ARE MANY SUCH OCCURRENCES DOCUMENTED, BUT GM DOES NOT SEEM TO THINK THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM OR A REASON TO INVESTIGATE AND FIX THE MALFUNCTION. WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE INTERMITTENTLY STARTS, RUNS ROUGH/SUB IDLE THEN STALLS. WHEN THE ENGINE STARTS IT SEEMS TO RUN NORMALLY, BUT ON AT LEAST THREE OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE WOULD STALL AND I WOULD LOOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO JEFF WYLER CHEVROLET FOR REPAIRS. THEY HAD THIS VEHICLE FROM JAN 21 - FEB 11, AND REPLACED THE BODY CONTROL MODULE AT A COST OF APPROX $435 DOLLARS. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE THE CONDITIONS REMAINED THE SAME. I SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP (KT AUTOMOTIVE LLC). THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND CONDITION WAS CORRECTED (APPROX COST $180 DOLLARS). NOTE; THIS CONDITION EXISTED WITH MULTIPLE OR NO ADDITIONAL KEYS ON MY KEY RING. SEEMS A LOT OF 2000-2005 IMPALAS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AS I AM WITH THE DASH INSTRUMENT PANEL AND POSSIBLE ISSUES WITH THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. RECENTLY, I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY 2005 IMPALA AND THE ABS/TRACTION SYSTEM. AT THE BEGINNING, THE "ABS, TRACTION OFF AND SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM" LIGHTS WOULD COME ON. THE ABS AND TRACTION LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON AND THE SERVICE TRACTION WAS INTERMITTENT. THE CAR ALSO MAKES A LOUD "DINGING" SOUND WHEN THE LIGHTS COME ON. WHEN I WOULD MAKE A TURN, THE CAR WOULD ALSO MAKE A GRINDING SOUND AND THE SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON. EVENTUALLY, THE TRACTION BEGAN KICKING IN WHEN IT WAS NOT SUPPOSE TO AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP PROPERLY. THIS OF COURSE WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND COMPLAINTS UPON COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY TOLD ME THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH I FIND HARD TO BELIEVE. I HAVE SPENT AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF TIME AND MONEY TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WANTED ALMOST $4,000 FOR REPAIRS. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A VERY REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY, LIKE TWO OTHER SHOPS I CHECKED WITH, TOLD ME THEY HAVE SEEN THIS NUMEROUS TIMES IN THESE CARS. THEY ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I SPENT $2,000 HAVING THE WHEEL HUBS, ABS HARNESSES AND BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATOR VALVE REPLACED. THE LIGHTS, ALTHOUGH INTERMITTENT, ARE STILL COMING ON! SOMETIMES IT IS WHEN I TURN THE CAR ON, BACK UP OR EVEN JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. FIRST... MY CAR ALL OF THE SUDDEN STARTED LEAKING LIKE AN OIL TANKER LAST JANUARY 2012, AND THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP, AND HAD MAJOR REPAIR WORK DONE ON TRANSMISSION, AND ENGINE FOR LEAKS. SPENT $2100 AND WAS QUOTE $2600 TO REPLACE THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL MODULATOR FOR MY ABS/TRACTION CONTROL TO WORK AGAIN. THE CODE THEY PULLED WAS C1218. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. A MONTH AFTER SPENDING THIS MONEY, I HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP, AND ALMOST A YEAR LATER I HAD TO REPLACE A PLASTIC ELBOW FROM THE WATER PUMP TO MY RADIATOR WHICH WAS ANOTHER $300. THEN THIS PAST DECEMBER 2012, MY TRANSMISSION ALL OF THE SUDDEN JERKED HARD FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND SO ON DURING LOCAL DRIVING. MAX SPEED LIMIT IS 40MPH LOCALLY. TOOK IT TO CHEVY AND WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, SO I TOOK IT FOR A SECOND OPINION AND WAS TOLD CODE P1811 WAS CODED FOR A LONG SHIFT, BUT THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS A 1/2 QUART LOW SO THEY FILLED IT WITH TRANS ADDITIVE. THEY SUGGESTED I TRY A "TRANSMISSION SHOP" FOR THEM TO CHECK BECAUSE MAYBE MY TRANS SOLENOID WAS BAD, WHICH WOULD STILL COST QUITE A BIT FOR REPAIR, BUT NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS A NEW TRANSMISSION. MY CAR HAS 122,000 LONG HIGHWAY MILES, NOT LOCAL; STOP & GO. I DO NOT FEEL MY ABS/TRACTION CONTROL, NOR MY TRANS SHOULD BE BAD. I MAINTAIN MY CAR, AND BASED ON MY INTERNET SEARCHES MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH THESE CARS. INDEPENDENCE BLVD. MATTHEWS NC THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND CONVERTER ON 11/4/11. I PICKED THE CAR UP DROVE FOR A WEEK OR TWO AND THE CAR WAS STILL STALLING AND JERKING. I CALLED CARSON AUTOMOTIVE AND TOOK THE CAR BACK.. I ALSO HEARD A NOISE IN THE ENGINE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO CARSON AUTOMOTIVE THEY COULD NOT FIND WHY THE CAR WAS STALLING AND JERKING BUT THE SAID THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A ROD THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED ON 12/27/11. THAT IS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE 90 DAY WARRANTY WAS 50/50 WHERE IF ANYTHING MAJOR HAPPEN TO THE CAR THE WARRANTY COMPANY WOULD PAY HAVE AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY HALF. THE REAR WINDOW REPLACED BECAUSE THE DEFROST WAS NOT ATTACHED AND SPARKED WHEN YOU TOUCHED IT. THERE WAS ALSO A LEAK IN THE TRUNK THAT HAD TO BE REPAIRED. AFTER THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE STARTED TO MOVE UP I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC FOR HIM TO CHECK IT OUT ON 2/25/12. THE PROBLEM WAS POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET DAMAGE. DEALERS CHARGE EXCESSIVE PROCES FOR REPAIRS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE A BAD DESIGN ISSUE, AND IS RELATED TO THE DEFECTIVE IGNITION RECALLS. THERE IS A FAIRLY EXTENSIVE COMPLAINT LIST, AND THE MFR CERTAINLY HAS DATA REFLECTING THAT THE PROBLEM COVERS MULTI MODEL AND YEARS OF GM CARS AND TRUCKS.

AFTER GETTING THE TICKET ON 12 MARCH THE SPEEDOMETER AFTER EITHER 20 MINUTES OF SITTING OR DRIVING DOES NOT READ RIGHT SAYS BELOW ZERO, THEN I TURN CAR OFF AND ON TO TRY AND RESET THE GUAGES WORK ON AND OFF.

WE PURCHASED A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA FROM A DEALER ON MARCH 16, 2006. ON MARCH 21, 2006, WE WERE TRAVELING DOWN A 2 LANE HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH. THE TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF US STOPPED SUDDENLY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND HEARD A LOUD POP. THE BRAKE PEDDLE THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HIT THE VAN IN FRONT OF ME TWICE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TURN DOWN A SIDE STREET AND LET THE CAR COAST TO A STOP. OUR INSURANCE ADJUSTER CAME OUT THE NEXT MORNING AND TOOK PICTURES. THE CAR WAS SENT TO A BODY SHOP TO BE TORN DOWN. GM WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE BODY SHOP WAS TOLD NOT TO TOUCH THE CAR UNTIL GM COULD SEND AN INSPECTOR TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THE INSPECTOR FINALLY CAME OUT AND RETRIEVED THE INFORMATION FROM THE BLACK BOX AND TOOK PICTURES OF THE BRAKE LINKAGE SYSTEM. HE ASKED IF WE HAD FOUND ANY PARTS IN THE FLOOR UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AFTER THE ACCIDENT. WE TOLD HIM NO. GM THEN TOOK 5 MONTHS TO FINISH THEIR INVESTIGATION. WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO ALLOW ANYONE TO TOUCH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY WERE DONE. THEY CAME BACK TO US AND TOLD US THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND THAT THE BRAKES HAD BEEN TAMPERED WITH. WE WERE ALL SET TO GO AFTER THE DEALER WHEN MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO LOOK AT THE BRAKES HIMSELF. WHEN HE DID, HE FOUND THE "MISSING" PART THE INSPECTOR HAD ASKED ABOUT. THE PART WAS VISIBLY BROKEN. I WAS ACCELERATING AND MERGING ONTO A ROAD AND JUST GOT INTO THE MIDDLE LANE. SUDDENLY THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING EVEN THOUGH I HAD STOPPED PRESSING THE PEDAL. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING AND THE CAR GOT UP TO 70 MPH IN A 55 ZONE. THE BRAKES DID NOT SEEM TO HELP SLOW THE CAR. IN A PANIC I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER AND STOP THE CAR. EVEN WHEN I WAS IN PARK, THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTED IT ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. IT DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY PROBLEMS ON THE WAY HOME AFTER THAT. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THERE WERE CARS VERY CLOSE TO ME. I NOTICED THAT MY FLOOR MAT WAS MUCH HIGHER THAN USUAL AND WAS UNDER THE ACCELERATOR. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT COULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROBLEM. I DO OFTEN USE CRUISE CONTROL. I CANNOT REMEMBER IF IT WAS ON AT THE TIME AND I CANNOT REMEMBER IF I WAS ACCELERATING USING THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTON. I DO NOT BELIEVE I WAS AT THE TIME BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL LIKELY WAS ON. FIRST, I HAD TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION STEERING. COULD HAVE BEEN THE STEERING KNUCKLE, DON'T KNOW. THEN, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT DUSK AND THE LOW BEAMS WENT DARK. THE CAR HAS AN AUTOMATIC SWITCH THAT MOVES THE HEADLIGHTS FROM DAYTIME MODE TO NIGHTTIME. LOCAL MECHANIC CALLED THE GM DEALER AND SPOKE WITH A GM MECHANIC. THE GM MECHANIC TOLD HIM THE TURNSTALK ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND THAT THEY FREQUENTLY REPLACED THEM ON IMPALAS. I PAID FOR BOTH REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET. THEN, THE HEATER WOULD ONLY WORK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE; HEATER BLEND DOOR ON DRIVER'S SIDE WAS DEFECTIVE. RECENTLY, I HAD THE HEATER BLEND DOOR REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE. THEN, I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT MY EXPENSE. GM WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH ANY OF THESE REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH SERVICE BULLETINS EXISTED ON ALL OF THESE ISSUES. THE PARKING LIGHTS REMAINED ON. PULLING THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON THE LEFT SIDE OF DASH TO THE "MANUAL ON" POSITION DID NOT HELP. I TURNED ON THE FOG LIGHTS AND RETURNED HOME USING THE FOG LIGHTS ONLY. TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, ALL OF THE VEHICLE LIGHTS (INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR) FAILED TO TURN ON WHEN THE SUN WENT DOWN AND IT BECAME DARK. HE TRIED TO USE THE HIGH BEAM AND LOW BEAM LIGHTS TO TURN THEM ON MANUALLY. HE PULLED OVER AND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE LIGHTS TURNED ON. IN APRIL 2010, WHILE DRIVING, THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF AGAIN. HE TRIED THE HIGH BEAM SWITCH AND THE LIGHTS TURNED BACK ON. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT WAS TOLD UNLESS HE COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY COULD DO NOTHING TO ASSIST HIM. I DID FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE THEY DISCOVERED I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME EXACT PART ON MARCH 12 OF 2007. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE FOLLOWING DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. A CLUSTER WAS REPAIRED AND A NEW STEERING COLUMN WAS INSTALLED AT THE COST OF $465. AFTER THE CLUSTER WAS REPLACED, THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO WORK. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 55-70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A WHINING SOUND. THE WHINING SOUND COULD ALSO BE HEARD WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 35-45 MPH. ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DEFROST AND HEAT UP AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 45-59 DEGREES. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. WHILE PARKED AT A GAS STATION AND TWICE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT EVENTUALLY RESTARTED. THE DEALER INITIALLY STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE DUE TO THE IGNITION OR THE STARTER. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA, CURRENTLY WITH 22,320 MILES. AT MY OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION, (~20,500) I WAS INFORMED BY REPAIR PLACE THAT THEY WOULD NOT PERFORM THE TIRE ROTATION AS I WOULD BE NEEDING TO REPLACE THE TIRES SOON. I ASKED WHY THEY WERE WEARING SO FAST- I WAS TOLD, THEY NOTICED IT ON MANY IMPALAS- PREMATURE TIRE WEAR BETWEEN 18,000-25,000 MILES. ~ 15 MONTHS AGO, WITH ONLY ABOUT 13,000 MILES, WHEN I HAD AN OIL CHANGE DONE I WAS INFORMED ME THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL FROM THE REAR OF THE ENGINE, I SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE (UNDER WARRANTY) SEVERAL SEALS/GASKETS- OIL PAN, DRAIN PLUG, OIL FILTER, PLUS REPLACE THE DRAIN PLUG. THE CAR IS SOMETIMES HARD TO START AND HAVE TO HOLD THE KEY IN THE START POSITION, AND/OR LIGHTLY PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO START IT. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, I GRINDED THE STARTER. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL START ROUGHLY AND IMMEDIATELY STALL, OR WILL STALL THE FIRST FEW SECONDS AS I AM BACKING OUT THE DRIVE WAY. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED A "CLUNKING/BUMPING/BANGING" NOISE WHEN TURNING, ESPECIALLY HARD TURNS.
