The contact stated that while her mother was starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal plastic burning odor and smoke entering the vehicle through the air vents on the center console. The contact stated that a neighbor assisted and became aware that the sun visor vanity mirror on the driver's side was melted off the visor. There was no fire. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,733.

It is readily visible and accessible for inspection upon request. A mechanic or technician can visually inspect the sunshade to assess the extent of the damage. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Excessive sunlight in the car causes discomfort or visibility issues to the driver and passengers. Glare from the sun impairs vision causing distraction, and compromising safety, especially during bright and sunny days making it challenging to see the road, traffic signals, and other vehicles clearly. Excessive heat makes the interior uncomfortable and hot. Sunburn. Reduced visibility and distraction can increase the likelihood of accidents affecting the safety of not only the occupants of the car with the torn sunshade but also other drivers and pedestrians on the road. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? .Yes 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Routine inspections are not conducted by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives for issues like a torn sunshade. However, an insurance representative might assess the damage if I file a claim related to the sunshade issue. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Warning lamps or messages related to the sunroof sunshade are not present in most vehicles.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH with the cruise control activated, the cruise control feature inadvertently deactivated, and the vehicle decelerated. An unknown warning light was then illuminated. The contact was able to accelerate, and the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, and the contact was informed that the side detect module (B1010-00) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, but an appointment was scheduled. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 30,000.

The mechanic recommended that the module and both batteries be replaced. The dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had been repaired. BLIND SPOT DETECTION SYSTEM WARNING SENSOR (OBJECT SENSOR/ CONTROL MODULE) ON MY VEHICLE HAS GONE OUT. I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY DASH GOES BLACK. THEN IT CUTS BACK ON GOING HAYWIRE, ALL SORTS OF LIGHTS AND WARNINGS CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE CAR OUT, TURNING IT OFF TO SEE IF A RESTART WOULD FIX THE ISSUE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. SO I HAD TO TOW TO THE DEALER WHICH IN THIS PANDEMIC WAS CLOSED. WHEN THE GUY AT THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS BAD HE SAID IT GOES BAD FROM GETTING WET. CARS ARE SUPPOSED TO GET WET NO? AFTER LOOKING ONLINE SOMEONE SAID THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND REDESIGNED THE PART TO WORK BETTER, YET THEY WANT ME TO PAY ALMOST $1000 TO FIX A PROBLEM THEY FIXED FOR THE SAME REASON. The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the steering wheel started to feel loose. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving and the steering wheel tightened with the "Service Power Steering - Drive with Care," message displayed. Due to the failure, excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact called her husband to meet her for assistance. The contact's husband arrived and was able to drive the vehicle to a dealer. While at the dealer, the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective power steering gear module. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle remained with the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

I was driving my 2015 Chevy Impala on the highway and my steering gave out into a curve. I got deeply afraid when the steering froze up on me, specially at 50 into a 40 mile rated speed. I say this because I wasn't aware that GM vehicles stop putting power steering pumps in their cars nice the late 2000's. I called onstar and inform them to the problem I was having with the car. I was able to get it to a safe spot. And the vehicle towed a dealership for servicing. I was told it was software malfunction that needed to be updated. Costing me $775, which my insurance company under CarCare wouldn't cover. I canceled them quickly. The car steered fine after getting it back. Then the same issue happened again a day later I call the dealership again close to my home, they told me the motor on the steering rack and pinion gave out. And was going to cost, 4100 dollars. I had another insurance company Endurance. They said they'll cover the rack but not the motor to the service department and denied the claim. Out of anger of payments to both insurance companies. The vehicle was traded in for a newer car. Value at 2000 dollars for trade. I'm bringing this to attention because GM is aware of this issue and don't want yo acknowledge this safety issue. Thank God I'm able to stronghold the car and bring it to safe spot. But for others with the Chevy Impala's not so lucky! These vehicles are scary and a dangerous for highway running, after the warning light appears on the dash!

About two years ago I parked in front of a business in Sun City West Arizona. When i came out to leave, my steering wheel would hardly turn. I went home and when I came back with a neighbor, the steering wheel was working as it should. About three weeks ago, I was turning onto a major street in Sun City West, Arizona. I got a notice on the info screen that the power steering was disabled. I had to force the steering just to get around the corner. I drove to a nearby parking lot. The steering took a tremendous amount of effort to turn the steering wheel. I almost hit a semi truck trying to go around a corner. It was very dangerous. After parking and leaving it for a short while, steering returned to normal. On a major highway a serious accident could have happened. I read online that in 2015 General Motors recalled roughly 1.2 million model year 2015 trucks and SUVs globally for a problem with the electric power steering system. GM previously recalled nearly 700,000 model year 2014 pickups for the same problem. My car with the electric power steering problem is a 2015 Chevrolet Impala. I am afraid to drive the car now. It could happen anytime again and cause a wreck.

My son (a brand new driver) was driving to school with me in the passenger seat on surface streets at approximately 45 mph at 0600 and an error message came on the console about “Service Power Steering - Drive With Care” or something akin to that and my son was unable to steer the car. He was able to slightly steer it into a turn lane (right hand turn into a neighborhood) and almost struck an oncoming car. He was able to stop and switch seats with me. Thankfully traffic was light enough and no one was behind us for me to back up about 10 feet to enable me to muscle the car into the neighborhood side street to pull over. I immediately turned the car off, waited ~30 seconds and restarted the engine…still couldn’t drive and error message came up again. Waited another 5-10 minutes and turned the ignition and was able to turn the wheel with ease, so I drove the car the ~5 miles home with no issue, but immediately called a service repair shop; they told me that this was a known issue. (WHAT THE WHAT?!?! Losing the ability to steer while careening down the road is a FLIPPING KNOWN ISSUE AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SAFETY RECALL?!? WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND KILLED OTHERS!). I immediately took it to the repair shop as I refused to drive it as it was unnecessarily unsafe! The repair was quoted as $5,200 (brand new GM part replacement) or $3,800 (reconditioned part - which ironically had a better warranty on it than the genuine GM part!)…I needed my car so I authorized the repair. Not happy! (A side note and a huge slap in the face is that my father did and my husband actually still works for GM…I’ve seen all the near-misses reported here and NO ONE KNEW THIS WAS AN ISSUE UNTIL DRIVING AND THE ABILITY TO STEER WAS LOST! Thank goodness we were on a surface street and not interstate! My novice driver could have EASILY been killed if he was in a different driving situation. GM NEEDS TO ORDER A RECALL!!

Evaporator core is leaking r134a freon i called gm they theres nothing they can do there is a recall on tge 2016 thru 2018 for the same .you can smell the freon inside the car a recharge ladt only 15 minutes i was told its about $2000.00 to fix it gm knew about the problem but only recalled 2016 to 2018

The stabilitrak notification appeared on my dashboard while driving on the highway, which immediately caused the car to slow down. It was a hazard as I had to maneuver over 4 lanes on a highway at high speed to move to safety. This issue has occurred three times and is currently on the fourth as the vehicle is at the Chevrolet dealer. It is going on three weeks on my fourth return in 6 months with no current feedback. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer each time for this exact issue which has occurred every 6 months after the initial repair, my vehicle was there for approximately three months as they stated I needed to replace the transmission. Six months from that date the issue occurred again and it was replaced as it was under warrant. The third time I had to pay for the repair as the dealer stated some sensors needed to be replaced. Now six months later again, it is at the dealer and I am waiting for the response. Each time this issue occurred, I was traveling at high speeds which almost resulted in accidents that I somehow managed to avoid. There were no other warning signs that this issue was going to occur. It just happens spontaneously. I have seen several complaints about this issue with Chevrolet made by mother customers going back as far as 2012 to no resolution but thousands of dollars spent with no real solution/answers.

THE BACK UP IS VERY DIM AND WHEN BACKING UP YOU CAN BARELY SEE WHERE YOU ARE BACK UP AND IF ANYONE ONE OR ANYTHING IS BEHIND ME. I AM NOT SURE IF ITS THE CAMERA OR THE SCREEN. THE SCREEN LOOKS FINE WHEN LISTENING TO MUSIC OR USING IT FOR CALLS.

The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic, but the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic suggested that the failure might be with the passenger occupant detection system. The vehicle was not repaired. Service airbag light repeatedly activates and goes off with passenger in vehicle. There was a previous recall Chevy #15400. NHTSA campaign #15V465000. Upon contacting the dealership about the issue. Claim was made that they didn't have a recall matching that number. My vehicle is within the production dates and has the heated and vented seats.

In April 2019, the side detection module was replaced under warranty, at 21,500 miles. The same ‘issues’ are reappearing, where a warning is illuminated on the side mirror when no cars are present. If the dealer/ mfr replaced the original modules and wiring harness with the same items, this would only delay a reoccurrence. I called Chevy Cust. Sec for assistance, and they said their ‘recall’ program expired in 2019. The car currently has just 47,000 miles and the the modules should not have failed a second time. There is obviously a design flaw, allowing water penetration, and Chevy did nothing to prevent it.

My side detection system has failed and not working on my 2015 ltz. Blind spot light stays on even when car is off. It’s causing other lights going crazy on and off. No check engine light on just the side blind spot indicator lights stay on. My car only has 70k miles it’s been happening for 1 wk I’m afraid to drive it after reading online that a clients impala nearly caught on fire. I’m reading that there is a recall with 2015 impala # n172097060 side blind zone alert module water intrusion. Please advise if there is anything Chevy/GM can do for me. I’m afraid to drive car and feel it’s a hazard driving around with faulty blind spots light.

We are having issues with our bling spot warning system not working warning light stays on in mirror and not going off its seams GM mounted sensor module behind rear wheel which gets exposed to water and then corrodes and malfunctions this also leads to many others safety issues including shutting vehicle down while driving because other systems are connected to it cannot isolate There should be a recall thankyou

The blind spot warning system stopped working, and yes it is available for inspection upon request. I have heard this leads to further electrical problems and am worried this may compromise my safety if not dealt with. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer. The component has not been inspected. There was a warning that popped up stating “service side detection system” that appeared randomly on my drive home the other day. I had not hit anything or done anything to the car that might have caused this.

The Side Detection System failed. Both rare modules are shorted. The defective module drain out the battery, causing engine start failure. And the defective module may cause fire. I have one side of the modules repaired in three years ago. Now both sides are failed. I had two jump start in the recent month. Every time I start the engine, warning for service of Side Detection System shows up.

My dealer is charging me $1606 for 2 sidevew detection modules caused by water damage and corrosion and that’s not covered under my extended warranty for my 2015 Chevy impala ltz 108k miles my cars has trouble starting and I have no working dash indicators no speed no gas no temp no rpm’s air bag light on and trac control on light . No turn indicators and no heat or ac and key fob don’t work unless I insert key fob arm rest slot all because of the sideveiw modules wow that is mind blowing $453 to diagnose and $1606 to fix

System failed suddenly stabilitrac , abs power steering, side detection all flashed on dash . Had to replace computer to restore power steering and stabilitrac and abs . Side detection a safety item still inoperative.

Service side detection notice came on, after replacing twice. While driving on the highway my speedometer dropped to zero. My odometer stopped advancing. My blinkers stopped working, as did my radio. Speedometer went to 12 (while driving at highway speeds) stayed at 12.

The contact stated that on various occasions while driving at night, the headlights failed to illuminate properly, and the roadway was not adequately illuminated. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated, and no repairs were completed. The vehicle was then taken to Columbia Chevrolet (9750 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242) where it was diagnosed that the headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000. The consumer stated he replaced both headlights assemblies.

BRAKE LIGHTS GASKETS ARE FAULTY FROM THE FACTORY AND ALLOW WATER TO FILL THE TRUNK WHEN IT RAINS. WHICH LEADS TO MOLD AND MILDEW SMELL THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. GM HAS PRODUCED A GASKET THAT IS "THICKER" AND CORRECTS THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL AND DEALER SAYS ITS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I'VE SPENT HUNDREDS AT DEALERSHIPS TRYING TO FIND FIND CAUSE OF THE WATER.

THE SENSORS FOR THE BLIND SPOT INDICATORS ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO EROSION AND GUNK-INVASION, CAUSING THE BLIND SPOT INDICATORS TO QUIT WORKING. PRESENTLY, THE DRIVERS SIDE INDICATOR DOESN'T WORK AT ALL, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE INDICATOR STAYS ON ALL THE TIME, EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. MY CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TELLS ME TO REPLACE THE BOX CONTAINING THE WIRES FOR THE SENSORS IS $500 PER SIDE, AND BOTH HAVE QUIT WORKING, AND THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART IS THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL, WHICH MEANS THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM TOLD THE BOX CONTAINING THE ELECTRONICS FOR THE SENSORS IS NOT SEALED PROPERLY, AND THAT MY DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED A LARGE NUMBER OF THEM ON THESE VEHICLES.

Additionally, there was an abnormal gasoline odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by the contact who became aware of a gasoline leak coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the pressure pump needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with catalytic converter failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

My left hand (front bank) catalytic converter near the cylinder head fell off yesterday at the mounting flange. It landed in/on my fan. I went online to find a replacement part and found GM service bulletin PIP5419a & b first issued in 2016.. That bulletin explains a known "defect" with the weld. The catalytic converter pipe cracks at the mounting weld. the TSB was issued for all Impalas from 2014-2016, all VINS all transmissions, all 3.6l RPO LFX engines. It says that GM is working on a solution for this concern. Why isn't there a recall on this defect? The file I've attached is not from my car but from the TSB. It's very similar to what my cars catalytic converter looks like.

WHEN ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE REVS TO HIGH RPMS AND A LOSS OF POWER TO THE WHEELS OCCURS. THIS HAPPENS MOST NOTABLY WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS WHILE CRUISING AT SPEEDS OF 50MPH AND UP. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED AND CODE P16CF WAS GIVEN AND TRACKED DIRECTLY TO THE VARIABLE TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE.

The contact stated that the vehicle violently shuddered. The contact stated that the check engine and stability control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stopped the vehicle due to the shaking and shuddering and had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the Transmission Control Module and a wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred two more times. The contact had taken the vehicle to the same dealer, and the TCM was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

The "service stabilitrak" light and engine light has returned making the vehicle non-operational once again. I have spent over $2500 in the past 12 months at an authorized Chervrolet dealership attempting to repair this exclusive, patented General Motors safety system, however, the system continues to malfunction. I cannot be the only owner of a GM vehicle with this frustrating, expensive issue. Please assist with a recall and/or inquiry to GM/Chevrolet. Previous NHTSA tracking number 11444992.

MOST RECENTLY, 'SIDE DETECTION' IS DISPLAYING ON DASH PANEL AND BLIND SPOT LIGHTS ARE NOT LIGHTING UP ON MIRRORS. I'VE READ A NUMBER OF SIMILAR ISSUES ONLINE WITH THE SAME YEAR. I HAD THIS CAR BACK 7X FOR WATER GETTING IN THE TRUNK. IT LAYS WHERE THE SPARE TIRE IS AND THE CARPET ABOVE IS NEVER WET. EVERY-TIME THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THE PASSENGER, REAR SEATBELT LOCKED AND WILL NOT RELEASE. DEALERSHIP STATED THE SEATBELT FAILED BUT DID NOT KNOW WHY, BUT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE WERE PLACING GRANDSON INTO SAFETY SEAT AND WENT TO PULL THE SEATBELT (OVER SHOULDER) AND IT WOULD NOT RELEASE. DRIVER SIDE REAR WORKS PROPERLY AS WELL AS THE LAP BELT IN CENTER. THE CAR HAS APPROX. 70600 MILES. THE REAR SEATS ARE RARELY USED. COST OF REPAIR, (WITHOUT DISMANTLING IT) IS $385. THIS FAILURE CAUSED NO INJURIES, HOWEVER IF IT FAILS LOCKING UP IS IT POSSIBLE TO FAIL COMPLETELY AND NOT SERVE IT'S SAFETY COMPONENT REQUIREMENT.

Side Blind Zone Alert (SZBA) system continues to be an issue with this vehicle. Sensing module(s) on inner left or right side of bumper cover fail due to water intrusion. When sensing module fails, "Service Side Detection System" message will appear on driver information center on instrument cluster. General Motors has previously issued a special coverage "N172097060", which is available on NHTSA website. As indicated in the special coverage document, if the issue is ignored, "the condition could result in the corruption of LS GMLAN that may result in the loss of some driver interface functions such as cluster, infotainment, displays, chime, and passenger presence detection (passenger airbag could be suppressed). Within approximately 30 days of the "Service Side Detection System" message, while driving, instrument cluster speedometer and tachometer went dead, and airbag warning system notification, anti-theft system, tire pressure monitoring system all illuminated. In addition to no speedometer reading, vehicle ignition/security interlock was causing vehicle to run rough. Vehicle would not immediately restart after shutting vehicle off. This is the 4th time a SBZA sensing module has failed on this vehicle. First failure was replaced under factory warranty, second failure was replaced under special coverage N172097060, third failure was replaced out-of-pocket. Contacted General Motors/Chevrolet, and they are not interested in providing continued coverage of the issue, which is a known issue, and likely a design defect, as the design was changed for later model years.

It appears that my vehicle had a special coverage bulletin titled “N172097060 - Special Coverage Side Blind Zone Alert Module Water Intrusion” This special coverage only covered vehicles for 6 years or 80,000 miles. This week I started experiencing problems with my vehicles side blind zone alert system. From everything that I have read it appears to be the same issue that led to the special coverage mentioned above being issued. However, my vehicle is now outside of the specified coverage limitations. I believe that it should still be covered as it still remains a safety issue. Regardless of how many years or miles have passed. Thank you.

GM has a know issue with the side detection system and refuses to do anything about it even after there service bulletin expired. When this fail it can cause other issues with the dashboard system failure and more. In this case the system would never shutdown draining the battery.

Taillight gasket failed and leaks water resulting in water leaking into trunk anytime it rains or go through car wash. This caused corrosion to the amplifier shorting it out, there is now no sound or on star available. It also caused the blind spot detection monitor to have issues and no longer work. Upon inspection when the vehicle is running the wires sometimes start smoking white. Dealer said there was no issue, obviously the radio doesn’t work, the screen doesn’t even light up, no backup camera, no sound warning if the forward collision system is engaged, no seatbelt ding, no blinker sounds, no rear detection system or cross traffic warning system.

Upon opening the sunroof while driving, the sunshade track bunched up and got stuck while opening. I was able to unbunch the track the get the sunshade to close, however, the fabric ripped away from the track on both sides. When the sunroof is opened, the fabric falls down into the car and completely blocks the view out of the back window. I tired putting the fabric up in the space it should roll into, but it will not stay and falls down while driving. I stopped using the sunroof for this reason. Now the fabric hangs down into the car. This happened almost a year ago. The fabric has continued to hang down further and further into the car. It is beginning to fall into the line of vision of the rear window. I used safety pins to hold it up, but it continues to hang down further. I have decided to get it fixed for this reason. It will cost almost $800 to have it repaired. This is clearly a safety hazard. I have read several forums on other owners with the same safety issue. A service repair bulletin has been issued for this problem, but it should be a safety recall.

SUNROOF EXPLODED! FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE CAR AS THE PASSENGER SEAT AND REAR SEATS WERE COVERED WITH SHARDS OF GLASS. THE REMAINING GLASS IN THE FRAME WAS ALL BENT OUTWARD WHICH MADE IT APPEAR THAT THERE WAS AN INTERNAL EXPLOSION TO PUSH MOST OF THE GLASS UP AND OUT OF THE CAR. SO RESEARCHED ONLINE LINE, WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAS HAPPENED, WELL THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. INSTEAD THE WAY ME TO PAY THEM THIS RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY TO DIAGNOSE IT. SO I CALL CHEVROLET TO EXLLAIN WHAT WAS GOINGG ON, THE REPRESENTATIVE WORDS WERE WELL MAAM THERE ISNT A RECALL FOR YOUR YEAR. Earlier this year driving to work 70 mph steering goes out I almost hit car next to me had to muscle the car to side of road then warning light popped up to service power steering!! Very dangerous for me and any cars on the road with this car! Had mechanic do diagnostic it had 20 error codes he reset them car worked 1 day same thing over again. We paid the car off but still can't drive it and can't afford wheel bearing a new rack etc this car has now been parked in garage for fear of driving with no steering or info center and the wheel was mounted with tire backwards from dealership when we bought the car! Front Right lower control arm w/o police right front wheel. Tpms system. This will be the second time I’ve had to replace the front lower control arm the tea PMS system does not work ABS traction control are off totally the same year of car make model everything was recalled to have this fixed but it was only with the police cars what makes you think that the ones that weren’t police cars didn’t have the same issue it cost $427.20 to fix. I also understand that my vehicle you’re making model it’s not the only one having this issue of having to replace it over and over as far as electrical something keeps moving or coming on or off in the car it’s worn down to batteries it happens at any time I can walk by the car and making the noise. I have to keep replacing the tires due to this all I know is that when you’re driving it more getting ready to turn it makes a loud crunching grinding noise it can happen at any time it’s getting harder to control the steering wheel. The cost of replacing the tires is ridiculous 2xs in a year or less. Gas let’s not even go there. Traction and stabilization always on along with brake assist and tpms front two tires stopped working. And once again it’s doing it. Not sure of exact date but before 2020

The manufacturer patented Stabilitrak system continues to fail on my vehicle. Initial ODI 114406439. Dealership charged $1,7832.15 to replace transmission control module (TMC) on 11/5/21. On 12/22/21 vehicle indicated the exact issue (Service Stabilitrak), took vehicle to same dealership, awaiting response. The car is not drivable when "Service Stabilitrak" is indicated as engine power is substantially reduced. GM technical service bulletin PIC5992A seems to apply to my issue. However, Chevrolet and the dealership says it does not apply, but continue to charge for engine light analysis and unnecessary, expensive repairs. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Vehicle is once again inoperable (3/4/22) due to this issue (service stabilitrak). Consumer stated almost $3,000 was spent with no resolution. Consumer stated vehicle fixed with used parts from a junk yard— new parts were not available.

I ASKED ABOUT THE BRAKES, I WAS TOLD IT COULD NOT BE FIXED BECAUSE GM HAS NOT RELEASED THE SOFTWARE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE SOUND THE BRAKES MAKE, HE STATED HE PROBABLY COULDN'T FIX THE SOUND. THE ROAD NOISE IN THIS CAR IS REALLY LOUD NOW. IT WASN'T LOUD LIKE THIS WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. MY 83 YR OLD MOTHER MENTIONED THE NOISE AND SHE'S HARD OF HEARING. A LOCAL MECHANIC TOLD ME BALL BEARINGS WILL MAKE THAT TYPE OF NOISE. I KNOW GM INSTALLED BAD SWITCHES, I HOPE THEY DIDN'T INSTALL BAD BRAKES AND BALL BEARINGS. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE SOUND AND I WAS TOLD ITS JUST LOUISIANA HIGHWAYS. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO ABOUT THE BRAKE ISSUE? I WOULD LIKE A NEW CAR THAT IS SAFER TO DRIVE. Complete loss of power assist steering resulting in difficulty in steering the vehicle at any speed. DIC messages indicate: loss of power steering, drive with caution, service traction control, and service ABS. ABS and traction control warning lights remain on and illuminated while driving. These indicators occur each time the vehicle is restarted. This problem originally started about two and a half months ago, and the power steering loss, for a while, was intermittent until recently. The vehicle has not been inspected been inspected by mechanics to date. I have researched hundreds of Impalas online with the same problem with a majority of them remaining unresolved and no manufacturer recall being issued. The vehicle mileage is currently 31, 104 miles and is not driven often because of the problem and the fact that I own two other vehicles.

The stabiltrac light comes on,sometimes I lose power. Sometimes the back up camera doesn’t work. Sometimes the parking brake light comes on the dash. Then ieverything will suddenly go away and everything is fine,only to have the same problems. This has been happening for months. I took it to the dealer multiple times and they are unable to fix it.

I have had the blind spot modules replaced two times already and they are out for the third time. I have had to replace them like just over every 2 years. This time I had loan my car to my daughter, due to any accident she had with a deer, and had her four kids in the car when multiple modules started shutting down and nearly leaving her stranded. When I was able to inspect the car i found the the blind spot modules where extremally corroded and showed signs of melting to almost catching fire. I believe that these are a safety issue, and need to be recalled and problem fixed with a reliably solution. I am a ASE Certified Master Technician and have been for well over 38 years. and have seen many of these GM modules go bad multicable times.

The stabilitrak system GM installed on my vehicle repeatedly indicates a "service" notification. Once this occurs, my vehicle loses power and the ability to shift into any driving mode. This issue began around 60,000, I currently have 77,500+ on my vehicle. GM issued a technical service bulletin (PIC5992A) for my vehicle, however, denies it's the issue and will only attempt a repair from a computer code, which they continue to fail to replicate. THE SIDE DETECTION MODULES IN MY 2015 IMPALA HAVE GONE BAD FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THEY WERE REPLACED IN FEBRUARY OF 2019. THIS WAS MOSTLY COVERED THROUGH A SPECIAL "RECALL" TO REPAIR AND PREVENT A REOCCURRENCE OF THE FAILURE. NOW, IN DECEMBER ON 2020, I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME CONDITION. THEY DID NOT REPAIR THE MODULES TO PREVENT THE SAME CONDITION FROM ARISING AGAIN. THEY GET WET BECAUSE OF A BAD DESIGN AND FAULT OUT, LEADING TO CAR SHUTTING DOWN OR EVEN FIRE FROM HARNESS TO MODULES CONNECTION. GENERAL MOTORS AND/OR THE DEALERSHIP (SUBURBAN CADILLAC, NOW SHAHEEN CADILLAC OF LANSING MI) SIMPLY REPLACED DISFUNCTIONAL PARTS WITH THE EXACT SAME DISFUNCTIONAL PARTS. A CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO CONTINUOUSLY REPAY FOR A POSSIBLY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION THAT THE COMPANY IS QUITE AWARE OF. I TRULY HOPE THAT THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CONTINUE THIS IN THE FUTURE. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS BEHIND ME. REVIEWING THE CHEVROLET FORUMS AND IMPALA FORUMS, THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE AND GM IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. READING SOME OF THE STORIES, I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY. AIRBAG THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE CAR ISN'T RECOGNIZING SOMEONE IS IN THE SEAT. THEY SAID TO ME THAT GM ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM; HOWEVER, MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. I SPOKE WITH A GM REPRESENTATIVE WHO CONFIRMED THE RECALL. THE GM REPRESENTATIVE SAID ALTHOUGH THE CODE IS SHOWN ON THE DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED AT THE CERTIFIED DEALER MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED; HOWEVER, THEY OFFERED TO COVER HALF OF MY COST. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR SUDDENLY THE INFORMATION AREA ON THE DASH BOARD SAID "SERVICE STABIL A TRACK " "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" AND "POWER TO ENGINE REDUCED" THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND THE FUEL FEED PIPE. HE ASKED IF I WAS USING E85. I TOLD HIM I WAS AND HE TOLD ME THAT E85 CAUSES THAT DAMAGES IN THE CHEVROLET VEHICLES AND IS WHY HE WON'T USE IT IN HIS OWN VEHICLE. THE OWNER'S MANUAL ENCOURAGES USEING E85. THE DESIGN OF THE HEADLIGHTS IS FAULTY. THE REFLECTORS BEHIND THE BULBS DO NOT PROJECT SUFFICIENT ILLUMINATION OF THE ROAD AHEAD, NOR DOES IT ILLUMINATE THE LEFT AND RIGHT CORNERS. I ESTIMATE THAT THE VERY DIM LIGHTS ARE GOOD FOR 30-FT AHEAD AT MOST, AND THEY ARE SO DIM THAT THEY ARE ALMOST USELESS WHEN DRIVING IN AM AND PM HOURS. SWITCHING TO HIGH-BEAMS BARELY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. IN FACT, I ALWAYS DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON WHEN DRIVING IN THE DARK, AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ONCOMING VEHICLE FLASH ITS LIGHTS AT ME IN ATTEMPT TO GET ME TO SWIYCH TO THE LOW-BEAMS. FURTHER, TURNING CORNERS IN THE DARK IS DANGEROUS, AS THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO ILLUMINATION OF THE CORNERS BY THE HEADLIGHTS. ALL OF THIS IS EXACERBATED SIGNIFICANTLY WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET AND WHEN IT'S RAINING. I SUGGEST THAT YOU TAKE A TEST DRIVE IN ONE OF THESE VEHICLES, IN " COUNTRY" ENVIRONMENTS THAT ARE NOT LIT BY STREET LIGHTS. DO IT AGAIN ON SIMILAR ROADS WHEN IT'S RAINING. SEARCH GOOGLE "IMPALA POOR HEADLIGHT DESIGN" AND YOU WILL FIND THAT THIS HAZARD IS DISCUSSED IN SEVERAL FORUMS AND REVIEWS FOR 2015 THROUGH 2018 IMPALAS. IT BOGGLES THE MIND TO KNOW THAT GENERAL MOTORS HAS ALLOWED THIS SAFETY ISSUE TO BE PERPETUATED THROUGH 4 IMPALA MODEL YEARS.

I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT LANE AND ACCESS AND EXIT RAMP. ONCE THAT HAPPENED YOU CAN'T GET VEHICLE TO MOVE WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I PUT IT IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I WAITED FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN TURNED ON THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I BOUGHT MY CAR WITH 11K ON IT. IT WAS A DEALER USED CAR THAT HAD NEVER BEEN REGISTERED FOR THE ROAD. I HAD A 2009 CADILLAC, SO THIS IS WHAT I COMPARED THIS CAR TOO THEN. THE PASSENGER WIPER BLADE HAS "SCRATCHED" THE WINDSHIELD WHERE IT STOPS TO RETURN BACK DOWN. THIS HAS CAUSED A PERMANENT MARK IN THE WINDSHIELD, THE LENGTH OF THE BLADE. THIS BLOCKS YOUR VISION AT THE WORST TIME; WHEN IT IS RAINING OR SNOWING. NEXT UP ARE THE SAFETY FEATURE CONTROL LOCATIONS WHICH WERE VERY POORLY DESIGNED. THERE ARE 5? DIFFERENT ONES. TWO ARE ON THE LEFT DASH AREA, BUT OBSTRUCTED BY THE STEERING WHEEL. ANOTHER ONE IS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, NEXT TO OTHER CONTROLS AND I'VE TURNED IT OFF BY ACCIDENT. THERE ARE OTHERS, NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE, BUT YOU HAVE TO OPERATE THE DRIVER INFO CENTER BY SEVERAL CLICKS TO ACCESS THEM. NOT VERY CONSISTENT. THE HORN IS MORE DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THAN ANY OTHER CAR IN MY LIFE! IN THE PAST, IF YOU PUSH THE LITTLE HORN ICON, IT BLOWS. WITH THIS CAR, YOU MUST PUSH AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WHEEL; I FOUND THIS OUT BY TESTING IT OVER AND OVER. THE HORN WILL NOT WORK IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION BY MOST PEOPLE. SPEAKING OF COVERED CONTROLS BY THE STEERING WHEEL, THE START/STOP BUTTON IS OBSCURED UNLESS YOU TURN THE WHEEL OR LEAN SIDEWAYS. IF YOU JUST PULL INTO YOUR DRIVEWAY NORMAL, YOU CAN'T SEE IT. THE EMERGENCY 4-WAY FLASHER BUTTON IS NEXT TO THE START BUTTON, AND IS ALSO OBSCURED BY THE STEERING WHEEL. ELECTRICAL, MINOR BUT ANNOYING ISSUES INCLUDE THE HVAC SYSTEM AND MUSIC STORAGE. THIS THE THE WORST SYSTEM I HAVE EVER SEEN. IN ALMOST ANY CLIMATE (40'S DOWN TO BELOW ZERO), I HAVE TO TURN THE TEMP FROM 90, DOWN TO 66 TO STAY COMFORTABLE. ON JULY 17, 2015 THE ENTIRE MY LINK SYSTEM WHICH INCLUDES, ONSTAR, GPS, CD PLAYER AND SIRIUS XM RADIO QUIT WORKING. ONSTAR COULD NOT LOCATE MY VEHICLE. ON JULY 27, 2015 I TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE GPS/MY LINK FIXED. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE MODULE. BEFORE THE MY LINK FAILURE I KEPT HEARING A ROARING NOISE ON THE CAR AND SOMETIMES SMELLING A BURNING ODOR. I ASKED A LOCAL MECHANIC WHAT THAT COULD BE AND HE GAVE ME THE OPTION OF BALL BEARINGS, TIRES COULD MAKE THE NOISE AND CHECK THE BRAKES. I LOOKED ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR ANY RECALLS ON THE IMPALA AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS STICKING TO THE TIRE THAT COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO FIX THE BRAKES RECALL. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE BRAKES, BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED THE SOFTWARE. I ASKED THE OWNER TO REFUND MY MONEY, BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. HE DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT AND TOLD ME IT WAS A USED CAR. I COULD TRADE THE CAR FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE AS A USED CAR TRADE IN. THIS DEALERSHIP KNEW THERE WAS A SAFETY RISK WITH THE BRAKES AND NO REPAIR FOR THE POSSIBLE FAILURE AND STILL SOLD ME THIS VEHICLE. THEY FAILED TO DISCLOSE THIS INFORMATION TO ME.
