SINCE NEW BRAKES WORK INCONSISTENTLY. TAKEN TO 2 DEALERS AND INDEPENDENT GARAGE SEVERAL TIMES. THE ONLY ANSWER THEY FOUND WAS TO ADJUST REAR SHOES. HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT FIX PROBLEM. SOMETIMES YOU STEP ON THE BRAKES AND THE CAR JUST WON'T SLOW DOWN. USUALLY RIGHT BEFORE YOU RUN INTO SOMETHING THE BRAKES SEEM TO GRAB. WHENEVER I HAVE A FRIEND DRIVE MY CAR THEY COMMENT ON HOW SCARY THE BRAKES ARE. THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF BASIC FLAWS I CAN LIVE WITH BUT I WOULD LIKE BRAKES. THANK YOU.

I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL CAR. IF THIS IS SUCH A BIG ISSUE WITH THIS PART WHY HAS GM NOT MADE A RECALL? THIS IS A BAD DESIGN BY MANUFACTURES ENGINEERING. TRANSMISSION BLEW WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. METAL PIECES FLEW EVERYWHERE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING. VEHICLE STOPPED IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HAD MANAGED TO GET VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WAS NOT REPAIRABLE.*AK

GOT IN THE VEHICLE ONE MORNING AND IT WOULDN'T GO OVER 25 MPH. VEHICLE HAD NO WARRANTY AND WAS NOT YET PAID FOR. DEALER WANTED AN EXTREME AMOUNT TO FIX TRANSMISSION. TOOK CAR TO AAMCO, TECHNICIAN SAID THEY FOUND A BUNCH OF METAL SHAVINGS AND EVERYTHING HAD TO BE REBUILT. MY FRIEND AND I BOUGHT THE SAME VEHICLE FROM THE SAME DEALER AT THE SAME TIME. A MONTH AFTER I HAD MY TRANSMISSION FIXED, HE WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND LOST SPEED. FOUND HE COULD NOT GO OVER 25MPH. HE DROVE STRAIGHT TO JOHNNY LONDOFF AND TRADED IT IN ON A BLAZER. MY NEIGHBOR STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH HIS 95 MONTE CARLO LATER THAT SAME YEAR. NONE OF US HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE YET ALL THREE TRANSMISSIONS WENT OUT. NO EXPLANATION FOR THE METAL SHAVING EXCEPT FOR SIMILAR INSTANCES I'VE READ ON THE INTERNET FROM CHEVROLET'S SURVEY RESULTS. I RECENTLY BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND WAS COMPLAINING TO THE MECHANIC ABOUT THE PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH THE CAR, MAINLY THE TRANSMISSION, HE SAID HE HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME THING AND THOUGHT IT WAS RECALLED. HE PULLED UP A RECALL CAMPAIGN # 94068 FOR THE HYDRA-MATIC 4T60-E TRANSAXLE FOR 1995 CHEVY LUMINAS AND MONTE CARLOS. THE RECALL CAME OUT IN OCTOBER OF 1994. HE ALSO GAVE ME A LIST OF TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS THAT DESCRIBE THE SAME BEHAVIOR WITH METAL SHAVINGS. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY FOUND THE CAMPAIGN BUT TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO CALL THE DEALER TO SEE IF MY VIN# QUALIFIED FOR THE RECALL. I GOT HOME THAT EVENING AND HAD A MESSAGE ON THE MACHINE TO CALL GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REGARDING MY EARLIER CALL. I RETURNED THEIR CALL AND THEY CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR ME. THE DEALER RAN MY VIN# ON THE VISS SYSTEM AND SAID MY VEHICLE HAD NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON IT. SO MY VEHICLE WASN'T MANUFACTURED AT THE SAME PLACE THAT THE OTHERS THAT WERE RECALLED WERE, BUT TWO OTHER PEOPLE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM AS I HAD WITHOUT BEING PART OF THE RECALL. I DON'T KNOW WHERE MY VIN SAYS MY TRANSMISSION WAS MADE BUT I THINK THEY ALL SHOULD BE CHECKED OUT

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WHEN MAKING A RIGHT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT BALL JOINTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE WERE FAILING. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $250. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 94V230000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN; THEREFORE, NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000.

THE CAR WAS SENT TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND THE DEFECT WAS FOUND. THE SERIAL # OF THE CAR IS [XXX]IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE SAME MODEL CAR HAD UNDER RECALL#94V23000 BALL JOINT MOUNT DEFECT. CHEVROLET SAYS THEY WILL NOT FIX THE CAR. THIS WAS FOUND BEFORE ANY ACCIDENTS OR FAILURE HAPPENED. 1995 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO Z34 WITH 3.4 LITER ENGINE. HAS SIGNIFICANT ISSUE WITH OIL LEAKAGE DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE ENGINE BLOCK CONTAINS A HOLE WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO UTILIZE A DISTRIBUTOR CAP. THIS MODEL DOES NOT USE A DISTRIBUTOR CAP. THE HOLE WAS PLUGGED BY GM AND IS INACCESSIBLE FOR REPAIR WITHOUT REMOVING BOTH TIMING CHAINS, THE ENTIRE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND CYCLINDERS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM TO REQUEST ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIRS WHICH HAVE BEEN ESTIMATED AT $1500- 2000. THEIR ONLY RESPONSE IS TO OFFER A CERTIFICATE WHICH COULD BE USED TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF A NEW GM PRODUCT. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL REPAIR OUTLETS AND WAS INFORMED THIS IS A RELATIVELY COMMON PROBLEM BUT THE ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE MAKES IT MUCH MORE DIFFICULT AND COSTLY TO REPAIR. MY 1995 MONTE CARLO WITH THE 3100 V6 HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. WE HAVE REPLACED THE EGR VALVE TWICE IN A YEAR, THE WATER PUMP, THE THERMOSTAT, THE RADIATOR, THE RADIATOR CAP, AND IT STILL OVER HEATS TO THE POINT THAT THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND THE HOT LIGHT COMES ON IN THE CAR. I AM AT MY WITS END AND I HAVE PAID SO MUCH MONEY TO GET THIS FIGURED OUT AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY. I HAVE HAD IT TESTED FOR A HEAD GASKET LEAK AND IT SHOWS NOTHING. THERE IS AIR GETTING INTO THE SYSTEM FROM SOMEWHERE BECAUSE IT CAN BE BLED OFF. I REALLY LIKE THE WAY THIS CAR DRIVES AND I DO NOT WANT TO GET RID OF IT. I JUST WANT IT TO BE FIXED AND I HAVE HAD 7 DIFFERENT MECHANICS TO WORK ON IT AND THEY ARE STUMPED! *JB

WHILE CHANGING THE OIL IN MY CAR, MY HUSBAND NOTICED AN OIL LEAK. TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP, MORRIS PONTIAC, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOT SPECIFIC AREA OF LEAK, THEY STATED THAT THE ENGINE ITSELF IS LEAKING AND THE ENGINE WILL NEED TO BE SEALED. THEY STATED THAT TO DO THAT, THEY WOULD HAVE TO TOTALLY TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE AND SEAL IT COMPLETELY. I FEEL WITH THE SMALL AMOUNT OF MILES ON MY CAR/ENGINE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD NOT BE. IT SEEMS SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE I HAVE HAD MANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR, INCLUDING REPLACING A TRANSMISSION. ON APRIL 10, 1999 I WAS DRIVING ON SUNRISE HIGHWAY WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING. TRYING TO CENTER MY CAR IN THE LEFT LANE WHERE I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR WOULD SWING TO THE LEFT AT A SUBTLE TILT OF THE STEERING WHEEL IN THAT DIRECTION; AND WOULD LIKEWISE, SWING TO THE RIGHT WITH A TILT OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. BREAKING DID NOT SEEM TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN AT THIS POINT. I CONTINUED TO SUCCESSIVELY ATTEMPT TO CONTROL THE CAR, SWINGING TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE LEFT UNTIL I ROAD ALONG THE GUARDRAIL IN THE RIGHT LANE, AT WHICH POINT THE REAR END OF THE CAR SWUNG AROUND TO HIT THE RAIL, BRINGING ME TO A COMPLETE STOP. A WITNESS WHO CAME TO MY AID AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT INDICATED THAT THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS SEEMED TO COME OUT OF NOWHERE, AND RECOMMENDED THAT I INVESTIGATE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. BOTH MY INSURANCE COMPANY, PROGRESSIVE, AND MY AUTO BODY REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT THESE THINGS ARE DIFFICULT TO PROVE AND THAT I SHOULD JUST REPAIR IT. I DID. HOWEVER, $8,000 AND A ONE NYS INSURANCE CLAIM LATER, I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO THE BODY SHOP (5/14/99)BECAUSE MY STEERING FEELS VERY 'LOOSY-GOOSY'. THERE SEEMS TO BE A DELAY BETWEEN MY INSTRUCTION WITH THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE RESPONSE OF THE ACTUAL TIRES OF THE CAR. WHEN I DESCRIBED THIS TO THE AUTO BODY REPRESENTATIVES THEY INVESTIGATED TELLING ME THAT IT'S PROBABLY THE RACK AND PINION AND THAT THEY WOULD ORDER ME A NEW PART, AND "EAT" THE COST OF THE ADDITIONAL REPAIR WHICH WOULD TAKE SEVERAL ADDITIONAL DAYS. TO MY SURPRISE THEY CALLED ME BACK THE SAME DAY TO SAY THAT THE RACK AND PINION REPAIR WAS COMPLETE. THE FIRST TWO DAYS AFTER THIS ADDITIONAL "REPAIR" SEEMED TO PROVIDE ME WITH A HEALTHY FEELING ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR, HOWEVER IT HAS SINCE BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY LOOSER IN THE CONTROL OF THE STEERING AGAIN. I AM SUSPECT ABOUT THIS MOST RECENT REPAIR, AND HAVE SINCERE FEELINGS THAT THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS A STRUCTURAL FAILURE.YOUR INVESTIGATIVE SUPPORT. *AK

I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE MASTER CLYNINDAL, ROTOR AND BRAKES 4 TIMES SINCE PURCHASE. THE MOST RECENT, 12/30/98, WAS 1 MONTH AFTER THE 3RD TIME. THE BRAKES FADE, GRIND AND DISAPPEAR ALTOGETHER. I HAVE JUST MISSED MANY ACCIDENTS. THE CAR IS CURRANTLY IN THE SHOP AFTER LOOSING THE BRAKES COMPLETELY. THE REPAIR MANAGER HAS TOLD ME IT IS NOW THE AIR HOSE FOR THE ANTILOCK BRAKES AND THAT MY REAR BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY GONE. I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR 3 OF THESE BRAKES JOBS FOR A TOTAL OF $900. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I SEEN ON THE COMPLAINT LISTING FOR MY CAR NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, SOME WITH INJURIES. THE PARTS USED TO REPAIR MUST ALSO BE DEFECTIVE. CHEVY MUST BE WAITING FOR PEOPLE TO DIE BEFORE THERE IS ACTION TAKEN. THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP IS ALSO IS STUMPED. THEY HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. THEY APPEAR TO BE SINCERE AND HELPFUL. I AM AT WITS END. I CAN NOT CONTINUE TO PAY FOR WHAT MUST BE A DEFECT IN THE CAR DESIGN. I MUST WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE MAY HAVE DIED FROM THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT BEEN RECONIZED? INTERNAL LOSS OF COOLANT STARTED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE. WHEN I DETERMINED THAT IT WAS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT, THE WARRANTY WAS DONE. CAR IS PRESENTLY DOWN UNTIL I CAN AFFORD THE HEAD GASKETS REPLACEMENT AND POSSIBLY REPLACEMENT OF A CRACKED HEAD. UPON STATE INSPECTION, LEAKING REAR WHEEL CYLINDERS WERE DISCOVERED ON BOTH WHEELS. ALSO, BOTH REAR STRUTS WERE DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY. WHENEVER IT IS VERY COLD, THE ACCELERATOR LINKAGE STICKS AND I MUST SHIFT TO NEUTRAL TO STOP WITHOUT SLIDING. OCCASIONALLY THE ENGINE HAS RACED AT OVER 3000 RPM FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAS BEEN RELEASED. THE HEAD GASKET PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER PERSONS I KNOW WITH THE 3.1 ENGINE. FOUR DIFFERENT MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES AFTER 30000 MILES. *AK
