I purchases a set of new Michelin Defender LTX M/S LT265/75R16 (123/120R) tires for my 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K2500 in June 2023 and I am attempting to register the tires with Michelin. None of the tires have a date code on them. The DOT code of these tires is 1M3 4N 00KX, there is NO date code on any of the four (4) tires.

WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK SEVERELY, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRAVELING UP TO 65 MPH. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TWO FRONT WHEELS WOBBLED, WHICH WERE MOVED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AFTER A TIRE ROTATION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRE SIDEWALLS WERE WORN. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE DUE TO THE COMPOUND OR THE BELT RUBBER AND REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17T019000 (TIRES). DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS IN RAINY WEATHER, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER MOTOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED OF THIS INCIDENT.

DT: WHILE TRAVELING IN A SEVERE RAINSTORM THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING INTERMITTENT AND SUBSEQUENTLY THEY STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT WIGGLED THE WIRES WHERE THE WIRES PLUG INTO THE WIPER MOTOR. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BEGAN TO WORK BUT LATER ON THEY QUIT AGAIN. THE CONTACT FOUND A PLASTIC TIE TO PLACE ON THE WIRING HARNESS TO HOLD TIGHT AGAINST THE MOTOR WHICH ALLOWED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO WORK. THIS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON A SEPARATE VEHICLE, BUT NOT ON THE OTHER VEHICLE WHICH HAS THIS PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED DUE TO THE VIN AND THE MODEL, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL INVOLVED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. NO FURTHER CORRECTIONS OR REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. *AK

DT: CONSUMER OWENS A 1999, CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR MODULE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL WORK OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING. WHEN TURNING THEM IN THE ON POSITION WHILE GOING 60 MPH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT ON 7-10-2005. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER PULSE MODULE AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE BECAUSE IT WAS BAD. CONSUMER KNEW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON ALL MODELS FROM THE MID 1990S THROUGH 1997. THERE WERE NO OTHER KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. AS OF NOW THE CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALERSHIP THAT WORKED ON THE VEHICLE WAS NOT THE SAME AS THE ONE WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. *AK *NM

DT: 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN, THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE. WHILE DRIVING IN A RAIN STORM THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. PULLED OVER, PLAYED AROUND WITH THE SWITCH, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS OPERATED. THE CAR WAS IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR GENERAL SERVICE WORK AND WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DIDN'T WORK. CONSUMER TOLD THE MECHANIC, AND HE OPENED THE HOOD, AND HIT THE MODULE AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED TO WORK. ALSO MECHANIC TOLD CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 98043 ON THIS VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CHEVROLET DEALER, AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. AFTER PRESSING THE DEALER HE ADMITTED THERE WAS A RECALLS ON OTHER VIN. MECHANIC AND SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THEY HAD DONE MANY OF THESE RECALL REPAIRS. *AK

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled and lost power steering and power braking functionality. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the security system that controlled the fuel pump and fuel injectors had been activated. The contact pulled off the highway and could not restart the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to a service station where he inspected the vehicle and became aware that the distributor had disintegrated causing the vehicle to lose motive power and stall. The vehicle had not been taken to a dealer or to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact recently had a mobile mechanic install an aftermarket distributor cap and rotor from an auto parts dealer. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 183,613.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WHENEVER THE ANTI-THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PASS LOCK MODULE, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE SECURITY LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 126,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

GM SIDE TERMINAL BATTERIES HAVE DESIGN FLAW THAT ALLOWS BATTERY ACID TO LEAK OUT OF THE TERMINALS WHEN STRESSES FROM HEAVY CABLES CAUSE SEAL TO FAIL. BATTERY ACID LEAKS ON VEHICLE COMPONENTS BELOW AND HAS BEEN KNOWN TO RUIN BRAKE LINES AND OTHER IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENTS. IN ADDITION, THE BATTERY ACID IS HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT. I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD THESE BATTERIES FAIL SEVERAL TIMES IN MY 99 CHEVY. SUBURBAN K2500 DIESEL. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, A SMALL AMOUNT OF BLACK SMOKE EMANATED FROM UNDER THE HOOD, ACCOMPANIED BY THE SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING THROUGH THE AIR VENTS INSIDE THE CAB. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, AND NOTICED THAT THERE WERE FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORT WERE TAKEN. I WAS UNLOADING ITEMS AND PUSHED THE HAZARD LIGHT BUTTON ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THAT'S WHEN THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE WENT HAYWIRE. THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A LOUD CLICKING SOUND, THE GAUGES WENT OUT OF CONTROL, THE STEREO READ OUT BEGAN FLIPPING THROUGH NUMBERS AND SINCE THIS INCIDENT THE DRIVING LIGHTS THAT SHOULD COME ON WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED THEY FLICKER AND AT TIMES GO OUT. THE ENTIRE SITUATION HAS OCCURRED NOW FOUR TIMES SINCE 09/10/05. I JUST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE 07/01/05 AND FROM WHAT THE RECORDS SHOW ON THE VEHICLE I AM THE SECOND OWNER. THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED TWICE WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC TO WHERE THE ENTIRE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN. SO FAR I HAVE AVOIDED A SERIOUS COLLISION FROM THE DEFECTS OF YOUR VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THIS COULD BE THE RESULT OF A VERY SERIOUS INJURY ACCIDENT OR EVEN A FATAL ACCIDENT. I SEE WHERE YOU HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME DEFECT AND CHEVROLET HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO CORRECT THE SITUATION. IT IS TIME FOR CHEVROLET TO TAKE ACTION ON THIS DEFECT INSTEAD OF TELLING THE CUSTOMERS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THE GAS GAUGE HAS BEEN EFFECTED AND NO LONGER SHOWS ACCURATE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON DRY CONCRETE LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY ON INTERSTATE I-820 SOUTHBOUND, APPROACHING I-30 WESTBOUND AT INTERSTATE INTERCHANGE, SLOWED TO 50 MPH AS TURNING TO RIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 30-45 DEGREES OF STEERING WHEEL INPUT WERE APPLIED TO START RIGHT SWEEPING TURN FROM TANGENT DIRECTION. ) AS DESIRED STEERING ANGLE WAS REACHED, STEERING ANGLE WAS UNINTENTIONALLY INCREASED BY THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. VEHICLE TURN RATE TO THE RIGHT EXCEEDED THE NECESSARY AMOUNT AND VEHICLE INITIATED A TURN-IN OVERSTEER. STEERING ANGLE WAS REDUCED, BUT WHEN RE-INITIATED, THE TURN-IN OVERSTEER RECURRED. WHEN MAKING ANY SLIGHT TURN, STEERING WILL SEEM TO LOOSE PRESSURE WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL WILL JERK 2-3 INCHES. THE DRIVER MUST PAY CLOSE ATTENTION AT ALL TIMES TO CORRECT THIS OVERSTEER OR THE VEHICLE WILL END UP IN ANOTHER LANE OR OFF THE ROAD. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ALL OF THE EVIDENCE AND COMPLAINTS EXIST FOR A SAFETY RECALL BUT 7 YEARS LATER....NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY SPORADIC AND MAY NOT OCCUR FOR WEEKS AT A TIME AND THEN SUDDENLY IT WILL OCCUR CONSTANTLY FOR HUNDREDS OF MILES. I RAN INTO AN INTERSTATE MEDIAN ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO, WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH, TRYING TO CORRECT A STEERING "JERK." THE VARIABLE EFFORT STEERING ON MY 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN C1500 IS FAILING TO ATTENUATE DURING ALMOST ALL TURNS FROM TANGENT. I GET ALMOST FULL POWER ASSIST AT ROAD SPEEDS FROM 45 TO 70 MPH; THIS CAN BE QUITE UNNERVING EVEN AT SLIGHT STEERING WHEEL INPUTS. USUALLY THERE IS A "BREAK POINT" AT WHICH THE ATTENUATION IS NORMAL UP TO THAT POINT, BUT BEYOND THE BREAK POINT, THE WHEEL BECOMES QUITE "LIGHT". WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE STEERING INPUT TORQUE AT THE WHEEL IS DECIDEDLY "TOO MUCH" AND MORE STEERING THAN NECESSARY ENUSES. ON DRY PAVEMENT, I HAVE ACTUALLY HEARD THE REAR TIRES SLIDING DURING INTERSTATE INTERCHANGE DRIVING. ON WET PAVEMENT, EVEN WITH NEW TIRES AND PROPER INFLATION, THIS IS GETTING QUITE SCARY. *NM

OUR 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN HAD AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT BEGAN SLIPPING FROM 800 MILES. EVERY TIME MY WIFE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, NOR COULD THEY DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE SLIPPING ONLY HAPPENED PERIODICALLY AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN SURPRISED IF THEY COULD HAVE DUPLICATED IT. SHE WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS MAY BE SOMETHING THAT IS NORMAL WITH A COMPUTERIZED TRANSMISSION. MAYBE IT WAS JUST A DELAY. WELL, ON DEC 27, 2004 OUR TRANSMISSION DECIDED TO ACT VERY STRANGE AND WOULD NOT SHIFT BEYOND 3RD GEAR. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS LOCKED UP IN 3RD GEAR. AT THIS POINT THE CAR WAS A YEAR AND A HALF AND APPROX 33,000 MILES PAST WARRANTY. THE DEALER NEEDED TO SPEAK TO GM ABOUT ANY WARRANTY COVERAGE SINCE IT WAS BEYOND THE WARRANTY. GM SAID THEY WOULD ONLY COVER HALF OF IT SINCE IT HAD NOT BEEN BROUGHT IN REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION IN APPROX 26,000 MILES. WHILE STILL ACCELERATING AFTER ENTERING FREEWAY TRAFFIC FROM A GENTLY ASCENDING FREEWAY ON RAMP, THIS 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN (100K MILES) VERY SUDDENLY BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER AND SHAKE (NOT VIBRATE) VIOLENTLY. ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE DID NOT COMPLETELY STALL, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED VERY QUICKLY, AND THERE WAS A CLEAR SENSATION THAT POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES WERE BECOMING INOPERABLE. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS, AS THIS FREEWAY ON RAMP LEADS DIRECTLY ONTO THE #1 LANE OF THE FREEWAY, AND THERE WAS NO SHOULDER. AN ODBII CODE SCANNER INDICATED CODE P0300 (MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE). WE HAVE A 1999 CHEVY SUBURBAN. IT NOW HAS 80K MILES ON IT. WE ARE ON WATER PUMP #5. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD COOLANT LEAK PROBLEMS. IT WAS ALWAYS BLAMED ON THE WATER PUMP. I CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THAT THE SYSTEM IS UNREPAIRABLE, THE ONLY THING THEY CAN RECOMMEND IS TO PULL THE FUSE AND DISABLE THE ABS SYSTEM ENTIRELY. I CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL PARTS STORE, AND THEY TELL ME THAT THE EBCM- ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE- WAS THE MODEL KH310, MANUFACTURED BY KELSEY-HAYES, AND IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. FURTHER, THAT THERE ARE NO USED, REPAIRED OR REMANUFACTURED UNITS AVAILABLE. I CHECKED THE INTERNET, AGAIN, THERE ARE NO UNITS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE, NO ONE MANUFACTURES A REPLACEMENT, IN FACT THAT MODEL, THE KH 310, IS "UNREPAIRABLE." VEHICLE HAS JUST OVER 200,000 MILES. AT ABOUT 150,000 MILES HAD DRIVERS SIDE DOOR UNABLE TO OPEN FROM INSIDE, HAD TO ROLL DOWN WINDOW TO OPEN FROM EXT'R HANDLE. AT SAME TIME BACK PASSENGER DOOR AND WINDOW WOULD NOT OPEN. SPENT WAY TOO MUCH $ WITH CHEV DEALER TO FIX, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NOW AT 200K MILES SAME THING AGAIN WITH DRIVER SIDE DOOR, WON'T OPEN FROM INSIDE, AND DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT GO DOWN (FAILED AT SAME TIME). AM WRITING THIS ON BEHALF OF MY 89 Y/O MOTHER AND 93 Y/O FATHER WHO OWN THE VEHICLE IN AURORA, MO. MOM GOT TRAPPED IN THE CAR AND HAD TO HAVE HELP GETTING OUT THROUGH PASSENGER SIDE - WHEN YOU ARE 89 YEARS OLD IT IS DIFFICULT TO CRAWL OVER A CONSOLE. WILL BE CONTACTING GM TO SEE IF THEY WILL OFFER TO HELP OR BLOW US OFF. IF LATTER CAN GUARANTEE I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT; HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH 1995 GMC 4WD PICKUP I HAD OWNED, DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FAILED, INSIDE AND OUT, AND COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPAIR. NO RELIEF FROM GM EITHER.

THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK FAILED IN THE LOCKED POSITION. THE AUTO LOCKS DO NOT AFFECT IT NOR CAN THE LOCK BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED FROM THE INSIDE. THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED AT ALL FROM INSIDE OR OUT. NO INDICATION OF BREAKAGE OCCURRED, IT JUST FROZE UP ONE DAY WITH NORMAL USE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR DOORS FAILED TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCHES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

THE MOISTURE CAUSED THE HALOGEN BULB TO BLOW OUT WHICH EXPOSED THE ELECTRODES AND SHORTED OUT THE LIGHTING CIRCUIT. WHILE STOPPED AT LIGHT A MOTORIST INFORMED ME THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKE LITES. AFTER ARRIVING HOME I HAD MY WIFE APPLY THE BRAKES AND ONLY THE THIRD BRAKE LITE CAME ON. I HAD MY WIFE TAKE OUR SURBURBAN IN TO THE DEALER, HAD IT CHECKED OUT, AND WAS INFORMED THAT WE HAD A SHORT IN THE REAR LITE HARNESS. IT WAS REPARED FOR $118. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE DROVE THE SURBURBAN UP TO IOWA OVER THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. AFTER RETURNING I WAS AGAIN INFORMED BY A MOTORIST THAT I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKE LITES. ARRIVING HOME I CHECKED THE BRAKE LITES AGAIN,AND AGAIN ONLY THE THIRD BRAKE LITE CAME ON. I HAD MY WIFE TAKE THE SURBURBAN BACK TO THE DEALER, HAD IT CHECKED OUT, AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR THE MULTIFUNTION SWITCH. MY SURBURBAN IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP HAVING THE SWTCH REPLACED FOR $637.00.

IN 2000 OR 2001 WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN WARRENTY, I HAD TRAVELED TO KENTUCKY FOR A VISIT WITH FAMILY. MY FATHER-IN-LAW NOTICED THAT I HAD NO TAIL LIGHTS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH AT THE PEDAL (STOPLIGHT SWITCH). IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR MY WIFE WAS FOLLOWING ME IN OUR OTHER VEHICLE WHEN SHE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR TAIL LIGHTS COMING ON AGAIN. I THOUGHT THAT THE SWITCH HAD WORKED LOOSE. WHEN I PUSHED IN ON THE SWITCH THE BRAKE LIGHTS STARTED WORKING AGAIN. THEN LAST WEEK MY WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND NOTICED IN THE STORE WINDOWS BEHIND HER THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING AGAIN. SHE DROVE TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND PURCHASED A STOPLIGHT SWITCH. I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE SWITCH. THANKFULLY OF THE 3 INCIDENTS WITH BEING UNAWARE OF HAVING NO BRAKE LIGHTS THERE WAS NEVER AN ACCIDENT. HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE MAY HAVE BEEN UNFORTUNATE AND THIS SWITCH HAS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT?

I have contacted 2 dealers in the San Diego area, Bob Sall Chevrolet and Courtesy Chevrolet. Both refuse to fix the recall issue. SEABELTS ON THIS MODEL SEEM TO NOT WORK AS THEY SHOULD. IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, OR A QUICK STOP SEATBELTS DON'T STOP THE PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE UNTIL SEAT BELT IS FULLY EXTENDED. ALL OTHER VEHICLES THAT I OWN WORK FINE AND LOCKING MECHANISM FOR SEATBELTS WORK AS DESIGNED. THESE SEABELTS ON THIS CHEVROLET SUBURBAN ARE NOT PERFORMING AS REQUIRED AND THE LOCKING MECHANISM SEEMS TO BE FAULTY. CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL/VIN # VEHICLE BUT IT ONLY CONVERS THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM IN REGARDS TO THE NECK EXTENSION. MY CONCERN IS THAT ALL SEATBELTS ON THIS VEHICLE COULD BE FAULTY TOO AND COULD INJURE ALL PASSANGERS IN A COLLISION. REQUEST TO HAVE MANUFACTURE DO A ONE TIME INSPECTION ON SEATBELTS TO DETERMINE IF INDEED LOCKING MECHANISMS ON THESE MODELS ARE FAULTY AT NOT COST TO THE COMSUMER.

THIS IS MY SECOND REPORT ABOUT THE SEAT BELTS IN MY SUBURBAN. THE DRIVERS SEAT BELTS AND FRONT PASSENGER WORK FINE. THE ONES INSTALLED IN THE SECOND AND THIRD ROW SEATING ARE DEFECTIVE. IN OUR VEHICLE THIS IS MAINLY THE SHOULDER BELTS. THEY WILL NOT RELEASE FROM THE CASING SO THAT THE CHILDREN CAN BUCKLE UP. THEY ARE ALWAYS JAMMED. I HAVE CHECKED THEM ON MANY OCCASIONS. I DO NOT FIND THEM TWISTED, THEY LOOK NORMAL BUT WILL NOT OPERATE. *JB

WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MARCH OF 2001. THE SEAT LATCH THAT SLIDES THE SEAT FORWARD BEGAN TO GIVE US PROBLEMS. WE TOOK THE CASING OFF OF THE BASE OF THE SEAT AND FOUND THAT THE RELEASE LEVER HAD BEEN WORN TO THE POINT THAT IT NO LONGER RELEASES THE SEAT TO SLIDE FORWARD. IN THE EVENT OF A EMERGENCY I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE REAR SEAT OF THE CAR QUICKLY. CAR EASILY.*AK

SEAT FAILURE-THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT SUPPORT BROKE CAUSING THE SEAT TO LURCH FORWARD AND BACKWARD UPON STOPPING AND STARTING OF THE VEHICLE ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD POPPING NOISE. DEALER IS REPLACING SUPPORTS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT SINCE THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS ALSO LOOSE OR CRACKING. ENGINE-THE ORIGINAL ENGINE IN THE TRUCK FAILED. THE CRANKSHAFT ROD BEARINGS WERE BADLY WORN. THE TROUBLE WAS DETECTED BY A SLIGHT KNOCK IN THE LOWER PART OF THE ENGINE. THE NEW ENGINE STARTED TO PRODUCE A "TAPPING NOISE" UPON COLD START UP. THE DEALER SAID THIS WAS A NORMAL NOISE DUE TO LOOSE PISTONS (SLAP). THE NOISE SUBSIDES AFTER ABOUT 4 MINUTES OF WARM-UP. IF THIS IS PISTON SLAP, THE ENGINE WILL WEAR FASTER CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE. I CALLED GM AND THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN THE DISCUSSING OR HELPING WITH LATTER PROBLEM.

I SEE ONLINE THAT THE 1999 SUBURBAN'S ANTI LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE UNEXPECTEDLY AND ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION. I ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE REPAIRED IT IN ACCORDANCE WITH GM'S TECHNINCAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE SUBJECT. I REMOVED THE ANTILOCK SENSORS AND CLEANED THE RUST OFF OF MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE FRONT BRAKES AND THE PROBLEM SUBSIDED. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN UNDER 10 MPH AND WAS FREQUENT AND UNEXPECTED. ON ONE OCCASION I NEARLY HIT THE FIRE STATION I WORK IN'S APPARATUS DOOR AND ON ANOTHER OCCASION I NEARLY HIT A FENCE ON THE BACKSIDE OF MY DRIVEWAY.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT A LOW SPEEDS THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM CAME ON AND CAUSED THE BRAKES TO FAIL. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THERE WAS A PLASTIC ELECTRONIC VARIABLE ORIFICE RING WITH WIRES ATTACHED TO THE STEERING SENSOR WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING TO BE UNCONTROLLABLE WHEN DRIVING. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR HIS VIN ON ANY OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 197,000.

THIS IS A DESIGN AND A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IT'S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE FAILING IN LARGE NUMBERS AND IT'S A DESIGN DEFECT BECAUSE THE DOORS CAN'T BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY WHEN THE POWER LOCKS FAIL. THE DEALER SAID THE DOOR ACTUATORS AND LATCH ASSEMBLIES MUST BE REPLACED. WHAT HAPPENS IS RIVETS ON THE LOCK ASSEMBLY ARE COMING LOOSE AND WHEN THE WINDOW IS HALF WAY DOWN IT HITS THE RIVETS CAUSING THE LOCK TO JAM AND THE DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED. IN A PANIC SITUATION, COLLISION OR CAR FIRE THE PASSENGERS NOT KNOWING WHY THEY CAN NOT OPEN THE DOOR WOULD HAVE TO CLIMB OVER THE SEATS TO GET OUT WHICH MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE IF THERE IS A FRONT END COLLISION OR FIRE.

1999 CHEVY TAHOE WITH VERY BAD BRAKES. PURCHASED VEHICLE 1/6/08. 1 PRIOR OWNER WHICH LIVED IN TEXAS. WHEN PURCHASED VEH. HAD A HISTORY RPT THAT SHOWED ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WAS DONE. I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN INFORMATION I HAVE REGARDING THE INSTALLATION OF A FORWARD-FACING CAR SEAT IN A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE SUBURBAN COMES WITH TETHER ANCHORS INSTALLED FOR THE TWO OUTBOARD SEATS IN THE THIRD ROW, BUT NO ANCHORS FOR THE CENTER SEAT IN THE THIRD ROW AND NO ANCHORS FOR ANY SEATS IN THE SECOND ROW. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SAYS THE DEALER CAN INSTALL ANCHORS FOR YOU. NOT TRUE! ACCORDING TO THE REPRESENTATIVES AT THE 800-NUMBER PROVIDED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL, CHEVROLET DOES NOT HAVE PERMANENT ANCHORS FOR THE SECOND ROW. INSTEAD, THEY HAVE A LITTLE METAL PLATE (IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE LATCH PLATE PART OF THE REGULAR SEAT BELT) THAT HOOKS INTO THE BUCKLE FOR THE THIRD ROW. WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THREE SYSTEMS. AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES, A FRONT AND REAR BRAKE REPAIR WAS DONE WHICH COST OVER 600.00, CLAIMED TO BE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND NOT WARRANTY. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TAIL LIGHT CIRCUIT BOARDS TWICE. WE ARE ON OUR THIRD BATTERY. THE INITIAL BATTERY LEAKED ACID ON ITSELF AND OTHER CAR PARTS AND MY GARAGE FLOOR. THE SECOND BATTERY WOULD NOT STAY HOOKED UP TO THE WIRING HARNESS AND CAUSED NUMEROUS FAILURE TO START PROBLEMS(WHEN THE CAR WAS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD). THE MOST DISTRESSING PROBLEM WAS THE RECENT REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION AT ONLY 70,000 MILES. THE CAR JERKED BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD GEARS, MADE NOISES AND RATTLES. RED LIQUID WAS LEAKING ONTO MY GARAGE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO CAPITOL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN AUSTIN. I REVIEWED MY PROBLEM AND TOLD THEM I THOUGHT I HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THEY DECIDED IT WAS AN ENGINE COOLANT SEAL PROBLEM AND PERFORMED A 600.00 REPAIR. I PICKED THE CAR UP AND DROVE ONE BLOCK AND THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WE WERE THEN TOLD OUR TRANSMISSION WAS "BURNED UP". I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT A CAR WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AFTER 70,000 MILES. THE CAR IS IN TOP CONDITION, STORED IN A GARAGE AND SERVICED AS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE GAS GAUGE READ ERRATICALLY AND INCORRECTLY FOR A NUMBER OF MONTHS. THEN THE ENGINE DIED IMMEDIATELY AFTER I PARKED THE VEHICLE ONE DAY AND FAILED TO RESTART. I DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE HAD BLOWN. A NEW FUSE LASTED 30 SECONDS BEFORE BLOWING IN ITS TURN. ON REMOVING THE GAS GAUGE SENDER/FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY FROM THE GASOLINE TANK, I NOTICED THAT TWO OF THE WIRES WERE FUSED TOGETHER. SEPARATING THE WIRES TOOK SOME EFFORT AND REVEALED THAT THE INSULATION ON BOTH WIRES HAD COMPLETELY ABRADED WHERE THEY CONTACTED EACH OTHER SUCH THAT THE BARE WIRES INSIDE TOUCHED EACH OTHER AND SHORTED OUT THE CIRCUIT. THE INSULATION ON ONE OF THE WIRES HAD OVERHEATED AND PARTIALLY MELTED OFF THE WIRE FOR A SHORT DISTANCE (1/2 INCH) FROM THE POINT OF CONTACT. REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP/GAS GAUGE SENDER SOLVED THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE ENTIRE UNIT IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GASOLINE TANK OF THE VEHICLE, I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS SHORT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED A SPARK THAT WOULD IGNITE THE GASOLINE IN THE GASOLINE TANK. IN THE PURPLE WIRE PHOTO, ONE CAN SEE HOW THE POINT OF CONTACT WITH THE GREY WIRE ABRADED THE INSULATION DOWN TO THE BARE WIRE INSIDE. IN THE GREY WIRE PHOTO, ONE CAN SEE BOTH A COMPARABLE ABRASION DOWN TO THE BARE WIRE AND ALSO PARTIAL MELTING OF THE WIRE INSULATION, TO THE POINT THAT ADDITIONAL BARE WIRE SHOWED. BUT THE INSULATION MELTING AND FUSION, AS WELL AS THE TWO SAFETY FUSES THAT BLEW, ARGUE THAT THE ABRASION OF THE INSULATION CONTINUED UNTIL THE WIRES INSIDE CAME INTO CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER. THE ENTIRE UNIT IS SPRING LOADED SUCH THAT IT IS IN CONTACT WITH BOTH THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM OF THE GASOLINE TANK. THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FOR MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH POWER DOOR LOCKS AND 4 OF THE 5 DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO OPERATE AUTOMATICALLY OVER A 3 WEEK TIME SPAN. THE PART THAT FAILED IS CALLED AN ACTUATOR, WHICH MOVES THE DOOR LOCKS UP AND DOWN. MY TOTAL BILL WAS $900 AND EACH PART COSTS $100. THE LOCAL PARTS DEALERS AND AUTO DEALERS HAVE SAID THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND THE NEW ACTUATORS ARE BEING SOLD AS FAST AS THEY ARRIVE. THE TRUCK HAS HAD A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END SINCE IT WAS DELIVERED I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DELIVERING DEALER WITH 845 MILES ON IT FOR SERVICE. THE VEHICLE STAYED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 11 DAYS THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS REMOVED AND SENT TO BE TRUED IT WAS THEN REINSTALLED. THE ORIGINAL FACTORY TIRES WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED THE FRONT END WAS ALIGNED. THIS SAME PROCEDURE HAS BEEN REPEATED A 2 OTHER DEALERS TRYING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. LATE IN 1999 THE TRUCK WAS AT DAY'S CHEVROLET AND THE SERVICE MANAGER BEN LARUE SHOWED MY HUSBAND A SIMILAR 1999 UP ON A LIFT THAT THE TORISON BAR SUPPORT AND ASSEMBLY COULD BE BENT WITH A PAIR OF VICE GRIPS THE METAL IS INFERIOR. THE FRONT END OF THE THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN BRAISED AT THE TORISION BAR ASSEMBLY IT HAS HAD THE ENDS OF THE TORISON BARS GROUNDED DOWN AND RETURNED TO US AS FIXED. CHEVORLET HAS JUST HAD THEIR LAST REPAIR ATTEMPT AND THEY TOOK THE FRONT END APART AND PACKED WITH GREASE TO CORRECT THE NOISE AND VIBRATION IT DID NOT WORK. WE STILL HERE THE NOISE IN THE FRONT END IT STILL VIBRATES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND IS VERY ANNOYING. The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with the assistance of Police Officers. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that fuel was leaking onto the ground and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred two more times while driving. The vehicle was then towed to the independent mechanic, who replaced the fuel pump two more times. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 06E043000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was bouncing while sitting in the seats and while driving. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the tires and aligned the vehicle several times; however, the failure had been reoccurring. The contact also stated that the dashboard was fractured. The contact also stated that water was leaking through the top of the windshield whenever it rained. The windshield was replaced twice. The contact stated that the rear driver’s side seat belt and passenger’s seat belt failed to operate as needed. MY SPEED WAS UNDER 25 MPH AND WHEN I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES MY 1999 SUBURBAN 2WD WOULD NOT STOP. I APPLIED MY BRAKES WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE STOPPED VEHICLES, BUT MY SUBURBAN CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH LITTLE OR NOT STOPPAGE. I TRIED TO DITCH THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT BUT COULD NOT DUE TO A TELEPHONE POLE, ROAD SIDE CEMETERY AND TREES. AT THE TIME I SAW THE ON COMING LEFT LANE DID NOT HAVE VEHICLES COMING SO I PULLED OUT INTO THAT LANE. I PASSED 2 OR 3 OF THE VEHICLE IN MY LANE BEFORE A VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE TOWARDS ME CAME. I TRIED TO STEER THE SUBURBAN TO THE LEFT INTO THE DITCH. I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND COLLIDED HEAD ON WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THE USED VEHICLE FROM GLENDALE CAR CONNECTION AT ON 8/28/03. I DROVE THE VECHICLE HOME THAT NIGHT I BEGIN TO NOTICE A HARD TURN MADE THE VEHICLE MAKE A NOISE I TOO THE VEHICLE BACK TO GLENDALE CAR CONNECTION WERE THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS GOING OUT AND HE CHANGE IT I ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE BRAKES SQUEALING AND HE SAID THE VEHICLE NEEDED BRAKE FLUID WHICH HE PUT IN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME AND BEGIN TO DRIVE IT I NOTICED IT WAS GETTING HARD TO TURN AND IT WOULD SWERVE WHILE DRIVING IT, I CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN. THE OFFICE MANAGER KATHY BAGGETT TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY AND THE COMPANY WOULD NOT FIX IT SO I HAD TO PAY TO GET IT FIX, AT THIS TIME THE BRAKES STILL SQUEAL AND I HAVE USED TIRES ON THE VEHICLE THAT ARE DIFFERENT SIZES. VEHICLE IS A 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN K2500 WITH GM 6.5 LITER TURBO-DIESEL ENGINE. THE VEHICLE STALLED IN INTERSTATE TRAFFIC (I-270) MULTIPLE TIMES ON OCTOBER 21, 2003. I CALLED THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIKELY CAUSE WAS THE ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION PUMP, WHICH GM HAS WARRANTED FOR 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. THE DEALER THEREAFTER REPLACED THE INJECTION PUMP UNDER WARRANTY. WHILE I AM PLEASED THAT THE PART WAS REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME, I BELIEVE THAT THIS REPRESENTS AN UNACCEPTABLE DEFECT. GM IS OBVIOUSLY AWARE THAT THE PART IS DEFECTIVE, OR IT WOULD NOT HAVE AGREED TO REPLACE IT FOR FREE AFTER THE REST OF THE VEHICLE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. IN THIS CASE, THERE WAS NO HARM, BUT THESE ENGINE ARE OFTEN USED IN TRUCKS AND LARGE SUVS THAT ARE DESIGNED FOR TOWING AND HAULING. I TALKED TO GM MANAGER JACK CUNNINGHAM ON 082903 AND HE SAID THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR FAULTY WIPERS ON YEARS 1994-1997. HE DID NOT ADDRESS THE BRAKE PROBLEM. JACK SAID THAT UNDER THE SPECIAL POLICY THAT IF MY VEHICLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL, GM WOULD HONOR THE RECALL. I CALLED ED BOZARTH SERVICE AND CHRIS NEEDED TO VERIFY FROM JACK THAT THIS REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED. CHRIS AS WELL AS MYSELF HAS NOT YET RECEIVED A CALL BACK FROM JACK AT 866 942 4368 X 48470. I CALLED THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE 800# AND THEY SAID THIS YEAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I TALKED TO JACK AND WHAT HE SAID. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND THIS TIME I HAD TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT ROTOR DUE TO WARPING. THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE ARE GROSSLY UNDERSIZED AND CHEVROLET KNOWS THIS. THAT IS WHY THE BRAKES ON THE NEW 2003 SUBURBAN ARE LARGER EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS SEVERAL HUNDRED POUNDS LIGHTER THAN THIS MODEL. VEHICLE PULLS DRASTICALLY TO THE LEFT WHILE BRAKING, DEALER HAS REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND REAR SHOES AND HAS REFACED ROTORS AND DRUMS, PULLING STILL EXISTS, DEALER ALSO REPLACED THE PROPORTIONING VALVE. TRANSMISSION MAKES A TICKING NOISE. A SPECIALIST LOOKED AT VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THAT WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED, IT CHARGES AT 15.1 VOLTS DIRECT CURRENT WHICH IS OVERHCARGING THE BATTER, EVEN AFTER VEHICLE RAN FOR 15 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL CHARGING AT 14.71 VOLTS, THE BATTERY HAS FAILED 4 TIMES, IT HAS LEAKED AND CORRODED, CHECK GAUGES LIGHT CAME ON AND ALL GAUGES WENT CRAZY. IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY A SHORT IN THE WIRING. APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AFTER THE LIGHTER WAS USED, THIS WILL BE THE SECOND ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *AK

FRONT BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES, EACH TIME ONE OF THE CALIPERS WAS REPORTED TO HAVE FROZEN OR STUCK, SO THAT ONLY ONE FRONT BRAKE WAS WORKING. THE REAR BRAKES WERE FIRST REPORTED TO HAVE A REARMAIN SEAL LEAK, BUT LATER FOUND TO NEVER WORK. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER ONLY 29000 MILES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TEST DRIVEN BY THE MECHANIC CHECKING THE BRAKES.
