THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF, A PUMP OR SOMETHING KEPT RUNNING AND THE SOUND SEEMED TO BE COMING FORM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE SOUND DID NOT CEASE EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY REMOVED. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL I CHECKED THE FUSES AND TRIED DISCONNECTING THE ABS 60-AMP FUSE FROM THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. THE FUSE WAS FINE, HOWEVER WHEN I DISCONNECTED THE FUSE, THE SOUND IMMEDIATELY STOPPED. I RECONNECTED THE FUSE BRIEFLY AND THE SOUND RESUMED, SO I LEFT THE FUSE DISCONNECTED UNTIL A REPAIR CAN BE MAID. *TR

BEGAN EMERGENCY BREAKING AND EVASIVE MANEUVERS. SHORTLY AFTER BEGINNING TO TURN, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND ALL 4 WHEELS LOCKED. THE RESULT WAS A 180 DEGREE SPIN ACROSS 5 LANES OF I30 JUST SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN DALLAS. WE ALMOST AVOIDED ANY COLLISION, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE AS WE WERE CLOSE TO HITTING AT LEAST 7 TO 10 VEHICLES WITH SPEED DIFFERENTIALS OF ABOUT 50MPH WHILE OUT OF CONTROL. THE FAILURE CODE WAS THE EBCM RELAY, AND THE SYSTEM WORKS IF THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS COLD ENOUGH, THOUGH IT FAILS ON BUMPS SOMETIME. TYPICAL BAD SOLDER JOINT BEHAVIOR. MANY PEOPLE ARE REPAIRING THESE MODULES BY RE-SOLDERING THE RELAY CONNECTIONS. *JS

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500 4WD WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK INTO A PARKING LOT WITHOUT INCIDENT. WHEN I GOT THERE TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM, I NOTICED THE STEEL BRAKE LINE SUPPLYING THE RIGHT FRONT CALIPER WAS SEVERELY CORRODED, WHERE IT RUNS ATOP THE FRAME IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, TO THE POINT WHERE IT DEVELOPED A PINHOLE TO ALLOW A LOSS OF PRESSURE(PEDDLE). THE LINE IS SO CORRODED THAT I CAN'T EVEN CUT OUT A SECTION AND FLARE THE OLD LINE TO INSTALL A REPAIR SECTION OF LINE. I BELIEVE THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE HAS TO BE REPLACED. AT THIS TIME I HAVEN'T INSPECTED THE REST OF THE LINES, BUT WHEN I CAN I WILL!!!!! I'M READING ABOUT NUMEROUS BRAKE LINE AND OTHER SEVERE CORROSION ISSUES ON THESE MODELS. ANTI LOCK BRAKES ARE ACTIVATING ON THERE OWN WHEN TRYING TO STOP AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH 4 TIMES. I FINALLY PULLED THE ABS FUSE OUT THIS STOPPED IT BUT NOW I HAVE NO ABS IAM IN SOAP LAKE WASHINGTON IT SHOWS A RECALL BUT ONLY FOR A FEW STATES I BOUGHT MY SUBURBAN NEW IN BOISE IDAHO AND NOW RESIDE IN WASHINGTON STATE MY VEHACLE IS EFFECTED EXTREMELY BAD WITH THIS PROBLEM

PASSENGER FRONT BRAKE IS LOCKING UP WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENTS AND CALIPER AND ROTOR REPLACEMENT. HAS CAUSE SMALL FIRE.

NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH, BUT UPON BREAKING AT SLOW SPEED THE PEDAL EITHER PUSHES BACK OR THE BRAKES SLOW THE VEHICLE AT A FRIGHTENINGLY SLOW PACE, ALL WHILE THE ABS SYSTEM IS ON AS IF SLIDING ON ICE, BUT IT WAS AND IS DRY PAVEMENT. THIS HAPPENS 95 -100% OF EVERY BRAKING ATTEMPT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC HE COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT TO FIX SINCE THE COMPUTER CODES WERE BOUNCING ALL OVER THE PLACE. I SEE THIS IS A PROBLEM AFTER I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE WEB. I PULLED THE MAIN ABS 60 FUSE UNDER THE HOOD TO TURN OFF THE SYSTEM. THIS CAUSES THE BREAK WARNING FAILURE LIGHT TO COME ON BUT I CAN AT LEAST STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A FAILURE ON A SAFETY SYSTEM (ABS) THAT ACTUALLY CAUSES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE...AS EACH STOP IS A POTENTIAL CRASH.

AFTER SO LONG IGNORING THE SMELL IN MY CAB, I DECIDED TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AT BENNY'S EXHAUST IN BRISTOL, TN, AND FOUND THAT EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAD BOLTS BROKE OFF ON BOTH SIDES OF ENGINE. 1ST BOLT INITIALLY THEN SECOND BOLT NEXT TO IT BROKE AS WELL. NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE TO MOTOR OR AFTERMARKET PARTS ADDED THAT WOULD AFFECT THIS PART AND CREATE FAILURE. EXHAUST GAS ENTERS THE UNDERHOOD AREA SOMETIME CAN BE SMELLED INSIDE PASSENGER CAB AREA. THE EXHAUST MAKES A BLACK PLUME UP SIDE OF MOTOR ON BOTH SIDES. THIS VEHICLE CAN NOT BE REGISTERED IN ANY STATE THAT HAS EMISSIONS TESTING, BECAUSE IT WILL NOT PASS. LEFT-SIDE ENGINE MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE OFF, CAUSING EXHAUST GAS TO ESCAPE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE FIREWALL FROM THE DRIVER. THE ESCAPING EXHAUST CAUSES A 'TICKING' NOISE, WHICH IS WHAT BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE OWNER (ME). THE VEHICLE IS WELL-MAINTAINED AND IS NEVER USED IN HARSH OR DEMANDING CONDITIONS. 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN PARKING BRAKE FAILED DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW THAT AFFECTS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS 1999 THROUGH 2003 GM VEHICLES. MOST OWNERS ARE PROBABLY UNAWARE THEIR VEHICLE HAS THIS DEFECT, SINCE THE TRANSMISSION PREVENTS VEHICLE MOVEMENT WHEN IN PARK. THE PARKING BRAKE ON THESE GM VEHICLES IS A DRUM BRAKE ON THE REAR WHEELS. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DRUM, AND DISC BRAKE ROTOR IS COMBINED INTO A SINGLE UNIT ON THESE VEHICLES. PARKING BRAKE PADS ARE MOUNTED ON A CIRCULAR METAL RING, WHICH HAS ABOUT A 2 INCH GAP AT THE TOP. THE RING EXPANDS WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS APPLIED. UNLIKE TYPICAL DRUM BRAKE PADS, THE CIRCULAR RING IS NOT WELL SECURED TO PREVENT UNDESIRABLE MOVEMENT WITHIN THE DRUM. USUALLY, DRUM BRAKE PADS ARE SECURED BY HEAVY SPRINGS TO KEEP THEM CENTERED WITHIN THE DRUM. ON THESE GM VEHICLES, HOWEVER, THERE IS JUST A SLIDE-IN CLIP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CIRCULAR METAL RING TO WHICH THE PADS ARE ATTACHED. THIS ALLOWS THE BRAKE PADS TO MOVE WITHIN THE DRUM WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT IN USE. ON MY VEHICLE, THE CIRCULAR RING WAS PULLED DOWN BE GRAVITY, RESULTING IN IT CONTINUALLY RIDING AGAINST THE DRUM. THIS WORE OUT THE PADS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CIRCULAR RING TO THE POINT WHERE METAL WAS CONTACTING METAL. THIS CAUSED EXTENSIVE WEAR TO THE DRUM, REMOVING OVER 1/16 INCH OF METAL. IN FEBRUARY 2003, GM RELEASED SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 92-05-26-002A, WHICH CALLS FOR INSTALLATION OF A SPRING CLIP RETAINER TO PREVENT PARKING BRAKE FAILURE ON THE FOLLOWING MODELS: 2002-2003 CADILLAC ESCALADE 1999-2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 2000-2003 CHEVY SUBURBAN, TAHOE 1500 2002-2003 CHEVY AVALANCHE 1999-2003 GMC SIERRA 1500 2000-2003 GMC YUKON 1500 GM SHOULD HAVE DONE A RECALL. THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD AND THE TRANSMISSION MAY NOT BE SUFFICIENT TO HOLD WHEN PARKED ON A STEEP SLOPE. SAT. 2/16/13 I STARTED MY 02 SUBURBAN UP BY TURNING THE KEY THROUGH AN OPEN DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW. THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD ABOUT 6 INCHES. THIS HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY FOR YEARS, BUT REALLY NOTICED IT THIS TIME BECAUSE MY ARM GET HIT BY STEERING WHEEL SINCE I WAS OUTSIDE VEHICLE. NORMALLY WHEN IT HAPPENS I AM SEATED IN CAR AND NOTICE IT SEEMS TO JUMP FORWARD. IT HAPPENS PROBABLY ONCE EVERY 100-150 STARTS. ANY IDEA WHY AND WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT IT. 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 2500 4WD TRANSFER CASE FAILURE *GR THE CONSUMER NOTICEABLE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM BEHIND THE VEHICLE. HE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED OIL DRIPPING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSFER CASE HOUSING HAD A HOLE IN IT. THE CONSUMER DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED IT WAS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSFER CASE OIL PUMP RETAINING METHOD, CAUSING THE PUMP TO MOVE AROUND IN THE HOUSING, EVENTUALLY WEARING A HOLE IN THE REAR TRANSFER CASE HOUSING. *JB

I HAVE A 2002 SUBURBAN THAT SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN 2002 I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING RIGHT. EVERY TIME I BROUGHT IT IN IT WOULD BE IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR LESS THAN A DAY AND I WOULD BE TOLD THAT EVERYTHING IS OKAY. NOW MY WARRANTY IS UP AND MY TRANSMISSION IS BROKE. I HAVE NO REVERSE, AND IT DOES NOT WANT TO DOWN SHIFT ON ANY FORWARD GEAR. I CALLED A TRANS SHOP IN MY AREA AND THEY STATED THAT WITH CHEVY SUBURBANS OF MY YEAR (GIVE AND TAKE 3YEARS BOTH WAYS) THERE IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SEAL IN THE TRANS THAT IT WEARS TOO SOON AND TRANS OIL LEAKS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD - THE OWNER DOES NOT EVEN NOTICE IT - BECAUSE IT GETS BLOWN AWAY WHILE DRIVING. I PURCHASED MY 2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS IN DECEMBER, 2004. GREAT LOOKING VEHICLE WITH NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. THE MOST RECENT AND SEVERE HAS COME OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND VERY HEAVING STEERING REQUIRING GREAT EFFORT. I MADE A HARD U-TURN AND THEN FOUND THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY HEAVY. IT TOOK BOTH HANDS AND A LOT OF FORCE TO STEER THE CAR. I PULLED OVER, POPPED HOOD, AND SAW NOTHING WRONG. NO DASH MALFUNCTION LIGHTS WERE ON. AT REPAIR, THE STEERING PUMP SHAFT HAD SHEARED WHERE IT NECKS DOWN FROM ABOUT 3/4" TO 3/8" DIAMETER. AN INTERNET SEARCH PROVIDES MANY INSTANCES OF THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PUMP WITH A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER WHICH DOES NOT HAVE THE VARIABLE EFFORT STEERING FEATURE. WHEN THE CAR IS COLD, THE STEERING RESISTS VERY STRONGLY A TURN TO THE RIGHT IN THE FIRST 10-20 DEGREES OF STEERING WHEEL TURN TO THE RIGHT OF STRAIGHT. THE STRENGTH OF RESISTANCE IS VARIABLE, DEPENDING ON THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. SITTING STILL, THERE IS A SLIGHT ?HITCH? OR NOTHING AT ALL. AS VEHICLE SPEED INCREASES, THE AMOUNT OF RESISTANCE INCREASES TO A MAX AT ABOUT 20-25 MPH, WHERE IT TAKES AN ?ARM WRESTLE? FORCE TO MOVE THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT. IT RESISTS, FIGHTS BACK, THEN WITH A LOT OF MUSCLE ? POPS THROUGH THIS RESISTANCE AND FEELS PERFECTLY NORMAL. THE HARD MUSCLE PULL TO THE RIGHT, AND SUBSEQUENT RELEASE MAKES THE TRACK OF THE CAR TEND STRAIGHT, AND THEN JERK RIGHT. WHEN THE CAR HAS THIS MALFUNCTION, IT REQUIRES THE MOST PHYSICAL POWER TO PULL THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. SUCCESSIVE TURNS TO THE RIGHT ARE EASIER AND EASIER, UNTIL AFTER ABOUT 4-5 CYCLES TO THE RIGHT, THE STEERING IS ?NORMAL.? SYMPTOMS ARE GONE WITHIN 1 MILE OF DRIVING. THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS USUALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IT ALSO IS MORE PREVALENT WHEN THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE IS COLD. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO BOTH. IT RESISTED TURNS TO THE RIGHT IN THE MORNING, AND EQUALLY AS MUCH THAT EVENING RETURNING HOME FROM WORK. IT HAS SHOWN UP IN THE SUMMER, BUT MORE OFTEN IN THE WINTER. IT DOES NOT DO IT EVERY DAY. I DESCRIBE IT AS PERMANENT, PERSISTENTLY INTERMITTENT. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, AND LEFT DAYS AND WEEKS AT A TIME. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HOUSTON TOLLWAY AT 65 MPH, MY 2002 SUBURBAN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL MODULE AND THE FUEL FILTER AND TOLD ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN SOME PROBLEMS WITH GM VEHICLES DATING BACK TO 1999 MODELS ON THE SAME PROBLEM. MINE HAD ONLY 70158 MI. WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 95 A THUMP WAS HEARD AND THE CAR BEGAN TO FILL WITH EXHAUST FUMES. ON EXAMINATION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE HINGE TO THE REAR WINDOW GLASS BROKE. SINCE THE GLASS EXTENDS UP PAST THE HINGE THE ONLY FIX WAS TO EPOXY IT. THE MECHANIC POINTED OUT THAT WHEN THE WINDOW IS BEING CLOSED IT CAN BE SEEN THAT THE HOLD OPEN STRUT IS PUTTING IMMENSE PRESSURE ON THE HINGE. EVEN IF THE WINDOW IS NEVER OPENED, THE HEATING OF THE GAS IN THE HOLD OPEN ROD PUTS PRESSURE ON THE HINGE SO I HAD THE ROD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REMOVED. GOOGLING THIS PROBLEM SHOWED MANY, MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AT DIFFERENT MILEAGES AND TIMES. THE TWO WORST CASE SCENARIOS FROM THIS MALFUNCTION OF THE HINGE ARE THAT THE WINDOW WILL SIMPLY FALL OFF AT 70 MPH INTO FOLLOWING TRAFFIC OR, LIKE MY CASE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A BLAST OF AIR LIKE A TORNADO OR HURRICANE IN MY CAR. PAPERS AND THINGS IN MY CAR STARTED FLYING. THIS IS A VERY LARGE WINDOW AND COULD HAVE TOTALLY COME OFF IN TRAFFIC CAUSING GREAT HARM TO OTHERS. IF THE WINDOW HAD BEEN OPEN AS IT IS ALSO DESIGNED IT WOULD HAVE BLOWN OFF. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THE COLLISION REPAIR PLACE I USED SAID HE HAD ANOTHER JUST LIKE IT THE WEEK BEFORE. IN TRYING TO REPLACE THE WINDOW WITH ANOTHER USED ONE HE FOUND THAT THE ADHESIVE WAS ALSO STARTING TO DO THE SAME, THEREFORE IT WAS NECESSARY TO REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE. IN FIXING THE WINDOW THE COLLISION EXPERT SHOWED HOW EASY IT WOULD BE FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO FIX. IT NEEDS BOTH SIDES OF THE HINGES BOLTED. I DO FEEL THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO SAVE OTHERS HARM. I HAVE ALSO SAVED ALL PARTS PERSONALLY FOR ANY/ALL INSPECTION.

The contact owned a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, there were cicadas flying towards the front driver side windshield that obstructed the contact's visibility which caused the contact to crash into a utility pole. The air bags did not deploy. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was first towed to a towing yard then towed to an auto body shop where the insurance company deemed it totaled. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and had sent out a field representative to inspect the vehicle and retrieved the event data recorder from the vehicle. The failure mileage was 260,000.

WHILE REPLACING THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES ON MY SUBURBAN (SEE TRACKING NUMBER 11066863), I NOTICED THE FUEL LINES GOING TO THE FUEL FILTER WERE ALSO TERRIBLY RUSTED. IT APPEARS THE RUST EMANATES FROM THE PLASTIC CLAMP THAT SECURES THE FUEL LINE TO THE FRAME. THE TUBE NUT THAT GOES INTO THE FILTER APPEARS TO BE FROZEN WITH RUST. SALT AND DIRT ARE TRAPPED IN THE PLASTIC CLAMP AND NUT, WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE TO WASH OUT. THE FUEL LINES ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK ARE LIKELY TO BE RUSTED, TOO.

WHILE PARKING A TRAVEL TRAILER INTO A STEEPLY-SLOPED DRIVEWAY AFTER A 300-MILE TOW WITH THE WHOLE FAMILY ABOARD, NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL WAS UNCOMMONLY LONG. FOLLOWING DAY, DEPARTED WITHOUT THE TRAILER FOR A SHORT DRIVE AND AGAIN NOTICED A LOW PEDAL. DROVE ABOUT THREE MILES WITH EXTREME CAUTION, AND ON ARRIVAL FOUND BRAKE FLUID FLOWING FROM BEHIND THE DRIVER'S-SIDE ROCKER PANEL. SLOWLY NURSED THE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL DEALER; DURING THIS DRIVE THE BRAKE ALARM LIGHT ILLUMINATED. NO COLLISION OR INJURY IN THIS CASE. BRAKE PIPES WERE FOUND TO BE ALL DEEPLY CORRODED AND BREACHED; ELECTED TO REPLACE ALL AT A COST OF $1130. MY 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN HAS INTERMITTENT BUT INCREASINGLY MORE FREQUENT AND LONGER DURATION STARTING PROBLEMS. MY RESEARCH TELLS ME THAT IT IS EXHIBITING THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE 2000 AND 2001 SUBURBAN MODELS THAT WERE UNDER A 2005 FUEL PUMP HARNESS RECALL. AFTER NEARLY 4 MONTHS OF DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM, RESEARCHING IT, AND TRYING TO CONVINCE BOTH MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE PUMP, MY SUBURBAN FINALLY FAILED TO START AT ALL TODAY. DROVE ANOTHER 600 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT. SECOND TIME, CAR DIED AGAIN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. RESTARTED AFTER 15 MINUTES. AFTER REPORTING THE PROBLEM TO ON-STAR AND HAVING REMOTE DIAGNOSTICS RUN, I DROVE ANOTHER 25 MILES TOWARDS DEALERSHIP RATHER THAN WAITING FOR TOW. (118 DEG HEAT IN DESERT SUN). ENGINE FAILED AGAIN ABOUT 200 YDS FROM DEALERSHIP. DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP, PRESSURE REGULATOR, AND FILTER. CROPPER AUTO GROUP IN CASA GRANDE, AZ, KEPT THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE WITH FUEL LEVEL SENSOR INDICATING PROPERLY ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS REPAIR ALSO REPLACED FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. $800+ REPAIR. 60,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE DOME LIGHT SWITCH CAN BE USED TO OVERRIDE THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS, BY PUSHING IT IN AND OUT TWICE. THE DRLS ARE TURNED OFF AND A BELL NOTIFIES YOU. THIS CAN BE DONE AT ANY VEHICLE SPEED / GEAR. THIS DOME LIGHT SWITCH IS SIMILAR IN SHAPE AND SIZE TO THE FOG LAMP SWITCH RIGHT NEXT TO IT, AND AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING IT IS DIFFICULT TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE WHICH ONE IS BEING PRESSED. THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE FACT THAT AT NIGHT WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED, THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON AUTOMATICALLY, HOW NICE. HOWEVER, IF YOU HIT THE OVERRIDE SWITCH TWICE THE HEADLIGHTS GO OFF LEAVING YOU IN THE DARK, WHEREVER YOU MAY BE. IT SEEMS THAT THE DRLS ARE NOT AWARE WHETHER IT IS DAY OR NIGHT. WE WENT ON A FISHING TRIP FROM WILSON, NC TO NEW PORT NEWS. I DROVE ALL THE WAY THERE WITH NO PROBLEM. WE ARRIVED AT THE JAMES RIVER BRIDGE AND MY TRUCK CUT OFF. IT CRUNK UP AND ROLLED A LITTLE THEN DIED AGAIN. IT TOOK ME 25 MINUTES TO PARK. I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL IT DECIDED TO STAY ON. WE FISHED THEN WE LEFT THE NEXT MORNING. When driving at highway speeds or even around town the vehicle randomly jerks to one side or another alignment was just done and was told all was good tires are new Pitman armor place ball joints replaced still having the issue of it darting specially when going around curves it wants to pull vehicle to the ditch and I look like I am driving drunk which I'm not I've had my mechanic try to inspect the issue he couldn't find it I heard they're made possibly be a TSB out for it but it's hidden

The steering pump has plenty of fluid in the reservoir and has been changed regularly. All of the sudden all power assisted steering disappeared when turning to the left making parking nearly impossible causing a great safety concern as this is my only vehicle and now my wife cannot take the truck anywhere. According to other owners, it's a common issue caused by the booster valve sticking shut and when I inquired about repair, I was quoted a part cost of 300 bucks which I don't have at all. Hopefully enough folks report this issue resulting in action taken by NHTSA even though the vehicle is almost 20 years old.

WHEN DRIVING MY 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500 AT SPEEDS UNDER 10 MPH IN BUMPER-TO-BUMPER TRAFFIC, THE ABS INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATED. THIS HAPPENED IN DRY WEATHER ON A FREEWAY. WHEN THE ABS INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATED, THE CAR VIBRATED AND ACCELERATED WITH DIFFICULTY AND JERKED. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP, CAUSING A TIRE TO BLOW OUT. THE CAR CAUGHT FIRE WHERE THE BRAKES HAD LOCKED UP THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. THE FIRE COMMANDER WHO EXAMINED THE CAR AFTER PUTTING OUT THE FIRE AND THE MECHANIC WHO IS REPAIRING THE CAR BOTH EXPLAINED THAT IMPROPER ABS ACTIVATION LED TO A RUPTURE IN THE BRAKE LINE, EXPOSING THE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID TO THE HEAT GENERATED BY THE LOCKED BRAKES. THIS VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ABS SYSTEM BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE CAR HAD BEEN TAKEN TO A GM DEALER TWO MONTHS EARLIER (IN JULY) WITH A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. THE GM DEALER DID NOT MENTION THE RECALL BUT MADE EXTENSIVE (AND EXPENSIVE) REPAIRS TO THE CAR. THE CAR EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER, WHEN IT LED TO THE FIRE. THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME OR THE RIGHT SEASON FOR THE ABS TO DETERIORATE FROM SALT EXPOSURE SINCE THE JULY REPAIRS. MY CAR IS PROBABLY EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL BECAUSE IT IS REGISTERED IN VIRGINIA. AS I WAS DRIVING MY PRE-SCHOOL DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL I HEARD A WIND NOISE. I STOPPED TO CHECK AND FOUND OUT AFTER MORE THAN 2 MILES THE DOOR WAS NOT CLOSED.. THIS VEHICLE IS FOR FAMILY... IT SHOULD BE FAMILY FRIENDLY... NO WARNING AS TO THE DOOR BEING AJAR.. HOW DO I GET THIS FIXED TO KEEP MY FAMILY SAFE? *NLM

DRIVING ON FREEWAY ALONG CARPOOL LANE WHEN THE CAR AHEAD OF US STOPPED TO MOVE TO THE NEXT LANE AND WE ALL HAD TO STOP. I HAD A GOOD DISTANCE FROM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR(LITERALLY) BUT STILL DIDN'T STOP UNTIL I CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE ABS BRAKES FEELS UNUSUAL. I ALSO HEAR A CLANKING SOUND ON THE DIFFERENTIAL EVERY TIME I HAVE TO DECELERATE AND GO BACK TO NORMAL SPEED OR JUST MOVING FROM "PARK" TO "REVERSE" OR FROM "NEUTRAL" TO "REVERSE". *NLM
