TAKATA RECALL. THE GAUGE CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING. NOW THE IGNITION AND AC WILL NOT WORK. OIL PRESSURE SENSOR READING WRONG. TOOK IT TO GET CODE READ AND 35 CODES CAME UP. HAD TO PUT ON A TOGGLE SWITCH JUST TO START IT. CANT SEE SPEED AND THAT MAKES IT VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT. THINK ALL OF THIS IS DUE TO WATER LEAK ON DRIVERS SIDE. STEERING CONTROLS STOPPED WORKING TODAY. THIS REALLY NEED TO BE A SAFETY CONCERN TO THE MANUFACTURER AS IT COULD REALLY GET SOMEONE HURT OR KILLED.

THE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR LIGHTS IN THE GM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ARE NO LONGER WORKING. THIS CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE DRIVER CAN SHIFT INTO THE INCORRECT GEAR ACCIDENTALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO OTHER ALTERNATE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR IN THE VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V045000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 192,000.

THE BRAKE FLUID LINES RUSTED AT THE AREA UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL, CAUSING THE FLUID TO LEAK UNEXPECTEDLY, THUS RENDERING NO BRAKES. THE LEAK HAPPENED ON MY VEHICLE AND ANOTHER IN THIS SAME AREA. THE MECHANIC SAID THERE COULD BE IS A PROBLEM IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE LINES DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION AND BECAUSE ITS TOO CLOSE TO THE WHEEL SALT AND ROAD CONDITIONS CAUSES THIS AREA TO RUST MORE EASILY. HE'S HAD A NUMBER OF CHEVY SUB. WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM IN FOR REPAIR/REPLACEMENT.

WHILE AVOIDING ANOTHER VEHICLE I APPLIED MY BRAKES SUDDENLY. THE BAKE LIKE CONNECTING THE ABS UNIT AND THE REAR BRAKES FAILED DUE TO CORROSION/RUST THAT WAS NOT OBSERVABLE DUE TO THE LINE BEING RAN BETWEEN THE VEHICLES FRAME AND BODY AND GAS TANK. ALTHOUGH THIS LOCATION MIGHT HAVE MADE FOR EASY MANUFACTURING IT HAS LED TO THE LINE BEING IN A LOCATION THAT CANNOT BE VISUALLY INSPECTED TO PREVENT DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FROM BUILDING UP FROM LACK OF AWARENESS. .

DRIVING ON SMALL RESIDENTIAL STREET. AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN I APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I STEERED INTO THE CURB TO STOP VEHICLE. WHEN I STOPPED SHAKING I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE CAME WITH A FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC. WHEN THEY RAISED THE HOOD THEY SAW BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE. WHEN WE GOT THE CAR HOME AND INSPECTED IT FURTHER THE MECHANIC WAS HORRIFIED TO SEE THAT EVERYTHING UNDER THERE WAS CORRODED AND RUSTED. INCLUDING BUSHINGS GAS LINES, NUTS AND BOLTS ETC. HE CLAIMED HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT IN HIS LIFE. THIS IS THE THIRD SUBURBAN I HAVE OWNED AND I AM VERY UPSET THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON RT.1 IN DELAWARE I SEEN A CAR ROLLED OVER ON ITS SIDE AND OFF THE ROAD I APPLIED MY BRAKES HARD TO STOP AND HELP THAT IS WHEN MY BRAKES FAILED. AFTER CHECKING ON THE DRIVER I LIMPED MY TRUCK TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND DISCOVERS MY BRAKE LINE HAD ROTTED OUT UNDER MY TRUCK BY THE FRONT WHEEL. STEEL BRAKE LINES ON VEHICLE ARE SEVERELY CORRODED WITH OBVIOUS SECTION LOSS. BASED UPON MY EXPERIENCE WITH A SIMILAR VEHICLE, A LINE FAILURE DUE TO RUPTURE IS IMMINENT AND ALL LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WILL BE NEITHER AN EASY NOR AN INEXPENSIVE TASK. ADDING INSULT TO INJURY IS THAT GM DOES NOT OFFER REPLACEMENT LINE SETS; IT'S ROLL YOUR OWN OR BUY AN (INCOMPLETE) AFTERMARKET SET (NO ONE OFFERS COMPLETE SET FOR JL4 REAR BRAKE ARRANGEMENT). THE VEHICLE IS A 4WD SUBURBAN 1500. WITH 2 WD DRIVE SELECTED AND DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 5 MPH TO 60 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 7 OR 8 TIMES. EACH TIME WAS IN TRAFFIC WHICH REQUIRED ILLUMINATING EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND PULLING TO SIDE OF ROAD. EVERY TIME PRESENTED A SAFETY ISSUE AND WAS FORTUNATE IT DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ON ONE OCCASION I HAD JUST PASSED A SEMI ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAD JUST PULLED BACK INTO TRUCKS LANE WHEN IT OCCURRED. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DETECT A PROBLEM. THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR REMAINS IN "DRIVE", THE DASH SELECTOR REMAINS ILLUMINATED IN 2WD AND I GET NO MESSAGES ON INSTRUMENT PANEL MESSAGE CENTER. TO TROUBLESHOOT I SELECTED "AUTO 4 WD" ON DASH SELECTOR AND OPERATED FOR A WEEK WITH NO PROBLEM. I THEN SELECTED 2 WD AND THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED WITHIN 2 HOURS OF OPERATION. ONCE I STOPPED, I SELECTED 1,2,3 AND R ON GEAR SELECTOR WITH NO EFFECT. SELECTED NEUTRAL AND TURNED IGNITION OFF AND THEN RESTARTED WITH NO EFFECT (ON PREVIOUS OCCASION I HAD SELECTED PARK WITH VEHICLE RUNNING AND NOTICED A GEAR GRINDING NOISE SO DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN WITH ENGINE RUNNING). TRANSFERCASE ON SUBURUBAN BEGAN TO LEAK AROUND 80K MILES WHEN YOU PUT ON LIFT YOU'LL SEE LITTLE PIN HOLES IN THE TRANSFER CASE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY DESIGN WHERE THE PUMP RUBS A HOLE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE T-CASE TO THE OUTSIDE. NUMEROUS COMPANIES HAVE MADE A MOD KIT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE WHICH GM HAS NOT. YOU CAN PUT A TEMP BANDAGE ON IT USING JB WELD BUT THE CASE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING CAUSING A "SHUDDER" AROUND 55 MPH OR LOWER IF I AM HAULING SOMETHING. WE TOOK IN TO DEALER WHO SAID THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH IS BAD AND THEY CAN REPLACE IT OR PUT IN A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST TO US OF $3,300. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND TSB #050730017 WHICH OUTLINES THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. IF THIS MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS KNOW BY GM I FEEL IT SHOULD BE HANDLED BY THEM. THE TECHNICIAN THAT HANDLED OUR REPAIR SAID THAT THE TRANNY FLUID SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 25-30K MILES SINCE WE LIVE IN A MOUNTAINOUS AREA AND OCCASIONALLY PULL A SMALL HORSE TRAILER. THE MANUAL STATES THAT IT SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 50K MILES WITH NO REFERENCE TO TERRAIN. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD COVER THE COST OF THIS REPAIR SINCE THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HAVE DONE NOTHING TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE ISSUE OR HOW TO CORRECT IT. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN THAT HAS A BAD VIBRATION AND CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATE THEIR IS NO RECALL, BUT I KNOW OF 4 PEOPLE WITH CHEVY TRUCKS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND MULTIPLE PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE. I AM NOT SURE IF LEFT UNFIXED WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN, BUT I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT AND HURT MYSELF OR OTHERS. UNDER WARRANTY, BROUGHT CAR IN FOR LOOSE, VIBRATING STEERING WHEEL IN 2004. DEALERSHIP DID SOMETHING TO MAKE IT QUITE BUT 3 MONTHS LATER IT WAS DOING IT AGAIN. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THE REDUCED ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND SHE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AGAIN AND RESTARTED IT. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. I BOUGHT A NEW 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500 LS IN EARLY SEPTEMBER 2005. ONE EVENING I WENT TO A RESTAURANT TO EAT, WENT INSIDE AND WAS SEATED. MAYBE 5 MINUTES PASSED, COULD HAVE BEEN LESS. THE OWNER BEGAN YELLING THAT A VEHICLE IN THE LOT WAS ON FIRE. I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND SAW WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A CAR NEXT TO MINE BELLOWING SMOKE. I RAN OUTSIDE TO MOVE MY 2004 SUBURBAN AWAY FROM THE BURNING CAR AND TO MY AMAZEMENT DISCOVERED IT WAS MY SUBURBAN! I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SUBURBAN 1500 WITH 90K MILES. IN NOVEMBER 2008 AT 80K MILES I NOTICED THE HEATER WASN'T HEATING. CHECKED AF TO FIND IT WAS A GAL LOW. NO LEAKS DETECTED ANYWHERE AND NO SMOKING FROM EXHAUST. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO 3 GARAGES INCLUDING ONE AUTHORIZED GM DEALER, ALL DIAGNOSTIC TEST WERE NEGATIVE FOR CRACKED HEADS OR HEAD GASKETS. SUGGESTIVE OF PROBLEM BUT NOT DEFINITIVE. THE GM DEALER STARTED AN OIL CONSUMPTION STUDY D/T HAVING TO ADD 1 - 1.5 QUARTS OIL EVERY 1500 - 2000 MILES. IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP UNTIL JUNE 2009 WHEN WE EXPERIENCE SUDDEN LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE, ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING BUT NOT SMOKING. I CHANGED THE OIL AGAIN AND DROVE THE VEHICLE THE NEXT MORNING. MADE IT 25 MILES WHEN OIL PRESSURE DROPPED AGAIN AND ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING. I ACTUALLY DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME UNDER FULL POWER BUT ALARMS GOING OFF AND NO OIL PRESSURE. I PULLED THE OIL PAN OFF AND FOUND THE ROD BEARINGS BURNED AND CRYSTALLIZED. NOW LOOKING AT NEW ENGINE. GM DENIES PROBLEM WITH THAT MODEL ENGINE AND REFUSES TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. WE WERE DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON US HWY 131 JUST NORTH OF KALAMAZOO, MI. OUR WILDERNESS AT P255/70R16 SHREDDED AND ALMOST CAUSED US TO ROLL OVER. THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE WAS APPROXIMATELY $2400 PLUS $197 FOR TWO TIRES. WE BOUGHT SUBURBAN FROM A FORD DEALER IN WI IN DECEMBER 2011. THE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE. WE FOUND OUT THAT THEY WERE RECALLED AND ALSO WERE 14 YEARS OLD. WE WENT TO THE FORD DEALER TO SEE ABOUT BEING REIMBURSED FOR THE TWO TIRES THAT THEY KNOWINGLY PUT ON THE SUBURBAN. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY PUT THE TIRES ON BUT CLAIMED IT WASN'T THEIR FAULT AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO KNOW ALL THE TIRES THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. WE THEN FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FIRESTONE. NINE MONTHS AFTER WE FILED THE COMPLAINT, SENT THE EVIDENCE, ALL PAPERWORK, THE TIRE WITH SHREDDED PIECES, AND COST OF REPAIRS, WE RECEIVED A NOTE THAT FIRESTONE WAS NOT LIABLE, THAT THE TIRE WAS 14 YEARS OLD, AND THAT THEY WOULD ONLY PAY FOR ONE TIRE. THEY SAID THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT PROPERLY INFLATED. WE TOOK THE AIR OUT WHEN IT WAS SENT BECAUSE UPS WOULDN'T TAKE IT WITH AIR IN IT. WE CURRENTLY HAVE THE SECOND TIRE. IT HAS EXCELLENT TREAD. THIS PROBLEM CONCERNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE SEAT HEATER SWITCH, LOCATED ABOVE THE DRIVER'S DOOR ARMREST, TURNS ITSELF ON WHEN THE CAR IS OPERATING. THE HEATED SEAT BECOMES EXTRAORDINARILY HOT RAPIDLY AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO TURN OFF - EVERY BUMP AND JAR IN THE ROAD TURNS THE LIGHT AND THE SEAT BACK ON. THE LIGHT'S LOCATION WHICH INDICATES THE OPERATION OF THE HEATED SEATS IS DIFFICULT TO SEE AS WELL - ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SUN IS STRONG & I'M WEARING SUNGLASSES. LOOKING DOWN AND AWAY FROM THE ROAD AND TRAFFIC IS FAIRLY DANGEROUS. THIS DISTRACTION COULD EASILY EVOLVE INTO AN ACCIDENT AS THE DRIVER IS CONSTANTLY TRYING TO TURN THE HEATED SEAT OFF. VEHICLE IS A 4WD MODEL, EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED TRANSFER CASE. THE CONTROL ONLY WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN A SNOWSTORM AND UNABLE TO USE THE 4WD. I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE FREEWAY AND I NOTICED THAT ON THE COMPUTERIZED DASHBOARD, THE SERVICE TIRE MONITOR WAS FLASHING. I WAS DRIVING 50 MPH AND WHEN I LOOKED AT THE SPEEDOMETER, THE GAUGE WENT UP TO 120 MPH AND EVEN THOUGH I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF THE GAUGE IS STILL AT 120 MPH. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY GAUGE IS NOT WORKING, BECAUSE THE GAUGE IS NOT MOVING AT ALL AND WHEN I LOOKED AT THE RPM GAUGE, I WAS ONLY PRESSING THE GAS SLIGHTLY, THE RPM GAUGE WENT UP TO THE MAXIMUM LEVEL. WHEN I WAS COMING BACK HOME FROM WORK THE SAME DAY, WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE I FELT IT RIGHT AWAY THAT WHENEVER I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS, THE VEHICLE IS JUST MOVING SLOWLY, UNTIL IT STOPPED MOVING. I HAVE IT TOWED TO BILL HEARD DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION WAS TORE AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I NEED TO HAVE A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS VEHICLE IS A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN, BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. RIGHT NOW WE HAVE 67,880 MILEAGE AND WE ONLY HAVE THIS VEHICLE FOR 4 1/2 YEARS. I DROVE HOME FROM THE AIRPORT ONE NIGHT AND ALL GAUGE READING WENT ALL THE WAY UP. I WAS TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE WITH A SPEED LIMITED OF 55MPH AND THE READING IN MY CAR WAS OVER 120MPH. The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph he noticed the temperature gauge increased to the high indicator. The engine coolant hot message was displayed. The contact stated that while attempting to pull over there was an abnormal popping noise and smoke was detected. The air bag warning light illuminated and the driver's side air bag deployed without impact or crash and struck the driver in the face, chest, and right hand. There was no medical attention provided, or a fire or police report filed. The vehicle was left on the side of the road. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

Brake/abs light on and ecbm for abs not working no anti lock brake system and for the electrical vehicle has all kinds of electrical issues had to remove fuse to radio because of it going bonkers and it wouldn't turn off or down sounds like a fax machine or old school dial up internet sounds all the time and siren sounds were coming from radio and speakers only way to make it stop was to pull the fuse and have had to get multiple four wheel alignments because of steering and steering has to much play in it before suburban turns

I WAS FORCED TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER IN ORDER TO AVOID BE HIT BY PASSING VEHICLE. AFTER WAITING APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES, THE SUBURBAN STARTED UP AGAIN. WE STARTED DRIVING AGAIN BUT AGAIN ONCE I TRIED TO ACCELERATE OR PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE THE SUBURBAN WOULD SHUT DOWN AGAIN. MY 2004 SUBURBAN IS EXTREMELY WELL CARED FOR. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 51,000 MILES AND IS KEPT IN PERFECT RUNNING AND PHYSICAL CONDITION. ON 10/8/2011 I WAS PERFORMING AN EXTENSIVE VISUAL CHECK OF THE BRAKE LINE ON THE VEHICLE AFTER READING OF SOME ISSUES WITH SIMILAR VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, I SAW THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEMS HYDRAULIC LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED IN MULTIPLE AREAS. THESE LINES MUST BE REPLACED TO AVOID CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. ON A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE AND LIMITED MILEAGE THIS IS HIGHLY WORRISOME. I HAVE MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES OF CONSIDERABLY GREATER MILEAGE AND OF OLDER VINTAGE THAT HAVE NOT HAD THIS CORROSION ISSUE. I MENTION THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE SPENT THEIR ENTIRE SERVICE LIFE, TO DATE, IN THE SAME WEATHER/DRIVING CONDITIONS. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT THE MATERIALS USED FOR THESE BRAKE LINES ARE OF AN INFERIOR MATERIAL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 70 MPH WHEN THE REDUCE ENGINE POWER STABILITY WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED AS THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY, THROTTLE BODY SENSORS AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. FRONT AND SIDES SMASHED IN AND FRAME BENT. VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TO BE TOTALED BY STATE FARM. HAVE BEEN DRIVING 40 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT IN MY LIFE. WE HAD TO CHANGE A REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BECAUSE WE NEEDED TO ADD AIR TO THE TIRE AND THE SENSOR CONTROL WAS BROKEN. WE TOOK THE TIRE OFF AND REPLACED IT WITH THE SPARE. WHEN RETRIEVING THE SPARE WE HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME GETTING IT OFF THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER WINCH. AFTER STRUGGLING WITH THE SPARE TIRE FOR 30 MINUTES WE GOT IT RELEASED AND WHEN WE TRIED TO HOIST THE WINCH BACK UP, IT WOULD NOT GO UP. WE TRIED REPEATEDLY FOR ANOTHER 30 MINUTES WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS. WE HAD TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE TIRE WINCH HOLDER PART SO IT WOULDN'T HANG DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN CALLING ALL MORNING TO TRY TO FIND THE PART AND DRAPER CHEVROLET SAID THEY HAVE HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS PART BUT MAINLY WHEN CUSTOMERS ARE TRYING TO RETRIEVE THE TIRE. MY INCIDENT IS DIFFERENT SINCE IT WOULDN'T GO BACK UP. DRAPER CHEVROLET DID NOT HAVE THIS PART IN STOCK AND I HAVE BEEN CALLING SALVAGE SHOPS AS WELL WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS. THE "TRACTION" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND SUDDENLY, SHE HEARD A CLICKING NOISE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THERE WAS PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED SURGE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE OPERATION. THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO OTHERS. THROTTLE BODY, TAC, BATTERY CABLES, AND OTHER COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO NO AVAIL. SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS ON THE FREEWAY WITH 18 WHEELERS BEARING DOWN ON REAR END WHEN ISSUE HAS OCCURRED. WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM THE AIRPORT, 60 MILES FROM OUR HOME. BEFORE WE LEFT THE AIRPORT AREA WE HEARD A NOISE. AS WE ARE HEADED HOME APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE STABILITY NOTIFICATION AND THE ABS LIGHTS COME ON. FIRST TIME THEY HAD COME ON. EVERY NOW AND THEN WE HEAR A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL. THE NOTIFICATION AND LIGHTS CUT OFF AND ON ALL THE WAY TO OUR DESTINATION. APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES FROM OUR HOME, WE HEAR A NOISE AS IF SOMETHING CAME OFF BUT YET THE SUBURBAN WAS DRIVING OKAY FOR THE EXCEPTION OF NOISE AND GRINDING. WE DECIDED TO KEEP DRIVING AS WE ARE IN A HORRIFIC CONSTRUCTION ZONE. THE NEXT DAY I CALL FOR AN APPT FOR INSPECTION AT A PRIVATE WHEEL AND BRAKE SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE. THEY SAID I HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLIES AND THE FRONT WHEEL TIRE WAS JUST ABOUT TO FALL OFF. THEY SAID THEY WERE EVEN APPREHENSIVE ABOUT MAKING IT FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING, INSIDE. I CALL THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE HUB ASSEMBLIES AND IT WOULD COST APP $560 TO $600 PER WHEEL FOR REPAIR. I COULD NOT AFFORD THIS SO I TOOK IT TO REPAIR AT THE WHEEL SHOP. THE TOP NUT WHICH HOLDS THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE CALIBER BRACKET CAME OUT ON MY VEHICLE. THE RESULT CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY STOP SEVERELY JERKING THE PASSENGERS IN THE TRUCK. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE I'VE NOTICED THIS ON MANY DIFFERENT CHEVY 2004 MODELS. THE TACHOMETER, FUEL GAGE, AND SPEEDOMETER ARE WHAT I NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH AND WHAT OTHERS HAVE SEEN PROBLEMS WITH THOUGH THE SPEEDOMETER IS THE MOST PREVALENTLY NOTICED ITEM. THE GAUGE MOTORS ARE NOT STEPPING BACK DOWN WHEN RPMS, SPEED, OR FUEL LEVELS DROP THUS LEADING DRIVERS TO RESPOND IN POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WAYS. IN MY OWN CASE I ALMOST CAUSED A PILE UP WHEN I THOUGHT I HAD LOST MY SENSES AND APPLIED MY BRAKES A LITTLE HARDER THAN I SHOULD HAVE, ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND CERTAINLY AGITATED THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME WHEN THEY ALMOST HIT MY VEHICLE. I DON'T TYPICALLY GET THIS PROBLEM AS I TYPICALLY DRIVE LESS THAN 10 MILES A DAY. WHEN I DO HAVE TO DRIVE MORE THAN 60 MILES I TEND TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS ALSO BEEN REPORTED TO BE MORE PREVALENT IN COLD CONDITIONS WHICH FITS WITH THE EXPLANATION I HAVE HAD THAT IT IS THE HOUSING OF THE GEAR MOTORS BREAKING DOWN AND JAMMING THE GAUGE GEARS IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. A PROBLEM WITH THE PLASTIC USED IN THE HOUSING OF THE GEAR MAGNETS; "THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE PLASTIC MATERIAL THAT HOLDS THE PERMANENT MAGNET FOR THE ROTOR OF THE STEPPER MOTOR." NOW THAT I AM AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAVE ASKED AROUND ABOUT FIXES I HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY AND TURN IT OFF. FROM THERE I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY ENOUGH TO BRING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL MOMENTARILY ON AND THEN BACK OFF. IT STEPS THE TACHOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, AND FUEL GAUGE BACK DOWN, (BIT BY BIT WITH EACH TURN OF THE KEY) WHICHEVER IS HAVING THE PROBLEM. THIS SOLUTION HAS BEEN REPORTED TO STOP WORKING AS THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST ESTIMATE OF OVER $450 FROM A PRIVATE SHOP AND AT OVER $800 FROM THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP. ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE NOT WORKING. ODOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, OIL GAUGE, BATTERY GAUGE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE DO NOT WORK - THE ONLY GAUGE THAT DOES WORK IS THE SPEEDOMETER. LOOKING AT ALL THE COMPLAINTS, I SHOULD ASSUME THE SPEEDOMETER WILL BE GOING OUT. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS - IT READS 250 - 260 ALL THE TIME. OWNER OF A 2004 CHEVY TAHOE Z71 4X4 LAT AUGUST 2006 MY VEHICLE WILL NOT START AFTER AN OVERNIGHT STAY. SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN MAY OF 2004, I HAD TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER. AFTER TOWING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, 5 TIMES I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A BAD INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IT WAS CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO NOT START. THEY REPLACED IT. A FEW WEEKS LATER. ABOUT A MONTH LATER MY VEHICLE DID NOT START. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. 3 WEEKS LATER THE PROBLEM EMERGED AGAIN, THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT MY BATTERY WAS BAD, THEY REPLACED IT. NOW THIS WEEKEND OF MARCH 10, THE SAME PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS DEAD AND WILL NOT START. I AM VERY ANAL ABOUT TAKING MY VEHICLE FOR REGULAR CHECKUPS. THERE IS A "LACK OF POWER" WITH MY 2004 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500. MY PREVIOUS 1999 CHEVY TAHOE TOWED MY BOAT AND TRAILER EASILY MY NEW SUBURBAN WITH 40 MORE HORSEPOWER HAS A VERY DIFFICULT TIME TOWING THE TRAILER. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITHOUT THE TRANSMISSION CONSTANTLY SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF LOWER GEARS. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER IF I AM IN TOW MODE OR NOT. WITH 40 MORE HP. THAN THE OTHER VEHICLE AND THE SAME AMOUNT OF TORQUE THIS SHOULD BE EASY FOR THIS TRUCK. MORE IMPORTANTLY THERE IS A GREAT LACK OF ACCELERATION WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE PEDAL. I GUESS YOU WOULD CALL IT A BIG LAG. I AM TOLD THIS IS CALLED "TORQUE MANAGEMENT." WELL TORQUE MANAGEMENT ALMOST GOT MY FAMILY KILLED THE OTHER DAY! I PURCHASE A NEW CHEVROLET SUBURBAN IN JUNE 2004 FROM PRIORITY CHEVROLET IN CHESAPEAKE VIRGINIA. AT ABOUT 4000 MILES I NOTICED THE INSIDE EDGES (ABOUT 1 INCH WIDE) ON THE FRONT TIRES WERE WEARING MORE THAN THE REST OF THE TIRE SURFACE, I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD THAT WHILE THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH UNEVEN TIRE WEAR ON SUBURBANS THAT IT IS NOT A WARRANTY COVERED ITEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAMBERS NEEDED TO BE ADJUSTED. THE TIRES ON THE FRONT CONTINUE TO WEAR FASTER ON THE INSIDE EDGES THAN THE REST OF THE TIRE SURFACE. I AM VERY DILIGENT ABOUT SERVICE OF MY 3 AUTOMOBILES. IF THIS IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH SUBURBANS AS IT WAS STATED TO ME, MY CONCERN IS THAT THE UNEVEN TIRE WEAR IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THESE POTENTIAL TIRE FAILURES NEED TO BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF GENERAL MOTORS. EVEN IF AN ACCIDENT DOES NOT OCCUR THESE TIRES ARE NOT CHEAP. THE VEHICLE LOST IT'S SERVICE STABILITY CONTROL AT 40 MILES PER HOUR MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THE DRIVER TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR FOR THE FOURTH TIME, BUT THERE STILL CONTINUES TO BE A STEERING PROBLEM. *NM THERE WERE FIVE REPAIR ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE SYSTEM. THE BRAKES WOULD PULSE AND COME ON WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION FOLLOWED BY THE SERVICE STABILITY LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY AS IF IT WERE OUT OF CONTROL. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP AT TIMES. A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS FOUND IN RE TO THE CLUTCH. THE FORWARD CLUTCH SEAL/PISTON DISS PUMP AS WELL AS THE SHIFT CABLE. THE YAW RATE SENSOR TABLE WAS REPLACED AND THE ABS MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED. THERE WAS POPPING COMING FROM THE LEFT WHEN TURNING DUE TO THE CROSSMEMBER. STATIC NOISE WAS HEARD UNDER THE DASH AT TIMES WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED. BOTH UPPER SHOCK INSULATORS WERE SQUEAKING. BOTH SHOCK INSULATORS WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED BY NEW STYLE INSULATORS. THE YAW RATE SENSOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN WITH ONE FORM A NEW UNIT, THE STEERING ROTATION SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND THE STABILITY MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED. *SC *JB
