ENGINE

I want to complain that my 6.2L V8 engine was “inspected” and they deemed it OK, then proceeded to make a requirement of thicker oil for its life. I was also given a long term warranty on the engine, however it is non-transferable, therefore the re-sale value of the vehicle is damaged beyond normal conditions. The engine is suspect, why else would it need thicker oil? The engine is all over the news with the recall, therefore why would anyone want to purchase my used vehicle based on that press and no further warranty? GM needs to make this right! That 10-year or 150,000 miles means nothing to re-sale value if is not transferable.

Car initially started stuttering on the high, check engine and traction control lights came on. I immediately went to the nearest Chevy dealership a mile away. Initially I had 20 error codes. The problem was the Left side lifters 4 of 8 stop working. Dealership recommended Replace Left lifters, 2 push rods, valve cove, head gasket. $5000. After starting the work. The technician could not repair the lifters because my camshaft is pitted and the RODS were rotating. Their recommendation is to replaced the whole engine to fully fix the problem. $12000 with 3 yr warranty. My SUV just 100kmiles.

Engine failed while driving. Vehicle began making clicking noise less than one minute for engine shut off while driving. Check engine light came on after engine shut off. Car was stopped at a busy intersection and couldn’t move. Car is currently at Chevrolet dealership and is in need of a total engine replacement

The contact owned a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the engine running, the front of the vehicle began to shake violently, with a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The check engine, traction control, and collision warning lights were illuminated. The contact called an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact later visited the dealer and was informed that the vehicle needed to be brought in for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

I own a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban (VIN: [XXX] ) that is included in NHTSA Recall No. 25V274 / GM Recall No. N252494000 for engine defects in the 6.2L L87 V8 engine. My vehicle was inspected at an authorized GM dealer today, on 9/23/2025 (Don K in Whitefish Montana). Instead of replacing the engine, the dealer performed the recall “remedy” of switching to higher-viscosity oil, changing the oil cap and filter, and providing an owner’s manual insert. However, the dealer service manager specifically told me that my engine will eventually fail due to the known defect and advised me not to drive the vehicle on long trips. He also told me to be careful driving if I have children, and it is only a matter of time before the engine fails, which will look like sudden shuttering, loss of acceleration and it will no longer run. He told me wait time to get a new engine after it fails is currently 8 months. This is alarming because the recall notice states that engine failure can cause sudden loss of propulsion without warning, which could be catastrophic going across multiple lanes of highway (from my home street), and entering and exiting my street via the 4 lane highway "suicide lane". I am very worried about this in the coming winter season with snow and ice. The current “oil upgrade” remedy does not resolve the underlying manufacturing defect in the connecting rod and/or crankshaft. Even after the recall service, my vehicle remains unsafe to operate, and the dealer’s own warning confirms this. I request that NHTSA review GM’s recall remedy to ensure that it adequately addresses the safety defect. A true remedy should involve replacement of the defective engine components, not just an oil change, or an immediate buy back of my automobile by the company so I can purchase another safer vehicle. My family and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle, and the manufacturer’s current approach does not eliminate the risk of catastrophic engine failure. Our 2022 suburban with the diesel motor has had 3 separate incidents where by all accounts the wheels have locked up while driving. The incidents mirror what has been described in the recall N242454440. The first time the incident occurred, we were driving while towing a light load (boat ~2500 lbs) at a steady speed of 60 mph. While driving the vehicle shook violently once, and then again about 2-3 seconds later. I immediately pulled over suspecting that maybe there was an issue with our trailer. After finding nothing we drove home without incident. Shortly after this incident we had the transmission flushed for regular maintenance at about 50,000 miles. Approximately 5-6 months later the second incident occurred. While driving with no trailer, up a mountain in NC at a steady speed of 35 mph, the vehicle shook violently and then again approximately 2-3s later. Each time the vehicle shook a loud "BUMP" noise would be heard. The road was smooth and was later driven on without issue so it was not the terrain. I once again got out and inspected the vehicle and was unable to find an issue. We drove to where we were staying and immediately took the vehicle to a dealer the following day to be inspected. The dealer found no issues and we did not report any similar problems. The last incident occurred after another 8 months while towing a light utility trailer at a steady speed of 60mph. Same thing happened with a shake and loud BUMP. However this time it was not followed immediately by an other instance. Those came approximately a minute later and then again after about 10 more minutes. I cannot recreate the issue and it seems to be at complete random and is happening while driving steady rates of speed where the transmission shouldn't be trying to shift. It seems like a safety hazard that could cause an accident.

Valve Body issues under powertrain factory warranty. Recall needed due to unreasonable national parts delay.
Jun 29, 2025
On January 29, 2025, while my wife was driving our 2022 Chevrolet Suburban with a 6.2L gas engine on a state highway, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration and power to the wheels while accelerating to the posted 55 mph speed limit. This occurred without any prior warning, creating a highly unsafe situation in morning commute traffic. The vehicle was immediately taken to a Chevrolet dealership, where the issue was diagnosed as a failed transmission control valve. This failure, which resulted in a complete loss of power while driving at highway speeds, is a known defect affecting certain GM models. The part in question, the Transmission Control Valve, is currently in high demand and is on a national backorder due to numerous similar failures. A recall has already been issued for diesel engine models with the same problem, but no recall exists for the gasoline-powered versions like ours. Chevrolet has confirmed the diagnosis and is aware of the issue, but the replacement part is currently on a national backorder, and the repair has been delayed indefinitely. Since the incident, the vehicle has been undriveable, causing significant inconvenience, and Chevrolet has been unable to provide an estimated date for repair. The sudden loss of power created a dangerous situation on a busy highway, as there were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. This is particularly concerning given that the part involved is on backorder due to the widespread nature of the issue. Chevrolet's lack of a clear repair timeline, coupled with the fact that this issue has been identified in other models, raises questions about the company's response and whether a broader recall or safety bulletin will be issued for vehicles like ours. The vehicle’s failure has not only been a major inconvenience but also a safety concern, highlighting the need for urgent attention to address this defect.

Hi my 2022 chevroley suburban has been sidelined for more than two months with a problem that involves my cylinder number 5 ( lifter and camshaft or crankshaft ) i believe. a well known issue with these cars. i happened just a few miles out of my warranty. when i went to chevrolet to explain to them. they didn't want to fix it. i have two young children that i take to school with this vehicle and they won't help me. this is a known issue with this model and it has been recalled many times. i'm stranded because of this car being out of an engine ... mind you the problem started well before my warranty and i was thinking that i needed some spark plugs ... by the time i realized it ... it went right over my warranty.

Engine Coolant Control Valve sticking and causing the fan to run continuously. (P1098). Seems to be an issue with several people.

When attempting to drive from a stop light or stop sign, after taking your foot of the brake, the vehicle intermittently completely turns off. It will not immediately restart and you find yourself stuck in the middle of an intersection creating a safety issue. The vehicle has been in to Chevrolet to have this issue fixed once already and it continues to repeat. I doubt the dealer has been able to replicate the issue as they haven't gotten the vehicle back into the shop after it's been sitting there for a week. There were no warning lights, messages, or other symptoms. It has happened to both myself and my wife, most recently on or about 7/1/25 where it happened to my wife multiple times causing us to leave the vehicle at the dealership for service. Just to be clear, the issue with the vehicle turning off is different from the standard auto stop/start feature.

The “add engine oil” light kept coming on and I initially thought it was because they forgot to reset it after my oil change because my car wasn’t reading it was due for one. I came to find out that my car is likely burning excess oil, according to the dealership, since all of the oil was gone. GM says that it’s normal to burn oil and as long as it’s up to 2 quarts between oil changes it’s fine. The dealership recommended that I get oil consumption test and sometimes it burned more oil than normal and other times it did not. We had to go every 1,000 miles which was an issue because it’s our main vehicle for family transportation and sometimes I would have to go under 1,000 miles because we needed it for a longer trip and would be over if waited until we got back. Also, my engine fan was making a very loud noise that would run for a while after my car was turned off and I was told multiple times it was fine until one time they checked it and it was indeed an engine malfunction and my engine would overheat when I went above a certain speed. The first fix wasn’t right and had to go back. I wasn’t burning enough oil to warrant GM to do anything.

It was diagnosed as the Telecommunication Module, this part malfunctioned causing issues with audio in the vehicle. The audio would at times play normal, at times go completely out losing all sound to turn signals, hazard signals, and safety sensor audios inside the vehicle. It would additionally lose communication between the key fob and the unit causing warnings during driving and non-start issues. With that said, the lose of audio when expecting safety sensor sounds, or sudden audio on complete full volume with the only resolution being to shut the car off is a safety issue. The vehicle had to be pulled over on the travel portion of the highway to resolve the sound issues on multiple occasions. Software updates, radio head change didn’t matter, until it was diagnosed as the module described above. Occurrences were completely random.

I own a 2022 Chevrolet suburban and bought the 72k mile extended warranty. Recently my telematics module went bad which is covered by the GMPP. I lost wifi, my clock is wrong everytime etc. However General Motors no longer makes this part anymore. Parts department utilizes a third party company called specmo for a refurbished authorized unit. However, GMPP will only cover the original msrp not the inflated price from the company specmo that GM uses for these parts. This part is 100% covered based on an msrp for a part that they no longer use and states that policy does not allow them to cover the full cost over the original msrp of the part. This is an issue that is all over the forums and internet and is ridiculous that GMPP is an extension/better than manufactures warranty yet they will not fully cover the full cost of the part that is covered. A few days later I was driving and my abs, traction control, steering, brakes, everything was flashing and not responsive or dramatically reduced like my brakes where I could not stop immediately with me and my 5 kids in the car.

While driving on the highway at 55 mph during a long-distance trip, the engine of my 2022 Chevrolet Suburban (6.2L V8) failed suddenly without any warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms. The vehicle lost power unexpectedly, creating an extremely dangerous situation. I was traveling to a national wheelchair basketball tournament and had a passenger in the vehicle at the time. Our safety was immediately at risk due to the abrupt loss of power in a high-speed traffic environment. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, where the issue was confirmed as a complete engine failure. The dealership later replaced the engine under warranty. I was informed that the engine installed was the same model currently under active recall (N252494001), which affects the 6.2L V8 engine in this vehicle type due to defective crankshaft or connecting rod components. The failed engine is no longer available for inspection, but the dealership should have records of the inspection and replacement. There were no warning lamps, error codes, or drivability issues prior to the failure. The malfunction was immediate and severe.

While driving on vacation our car just slowed down gave the message, “reduced acceleration, drive with care” and then shut off while on the high way. We were able to start it again but after that haven’t had that message but have had the message to service safety restraint system multiple times. I have taken my SUV to the dealership multiple times for both issues and they have said multiple codes generate but they can’t find anything to fix.

While traveling back from Labor Day Weekend on [XXX], I was driving in the Dallas Fort Worth area when I experienced loss of power to our vehicle on a major highway [XXX] and [XXX] ) and directly on a bridge with my entire family in the vehicle (4 kids and all of our luggage). It was a very dangerous and scary situation. We had to wait one hour for a tow truck to come and take my vehicle to the closest GM dealership. I was left stranded, 3 hours from my home with my four children and luggage. The Chevrolet dealership contacted me 9 days later and informed me the technician looked at the vehicle and determined the engine was locked up/seized. It would take 9 months to get the vehicle back into the shop to determine what caused the issue and then take 6-12 months for a new engine. I have a family of 6 and I'm left car-less for two years. Yet I still have to make the monthly payment on a vehicle that I won't be driving or be in possession of. MY BIGGEST ISSUE: GM has known that they have had engine issues for many years. Particularly, with Dynamic Fuel Management causing lifter issues which leads to engine failure, yet never disclosed this to me when I purchased the vehicle. Furthermore, they never disclosed that the issue was so prevalent that motors were back ordered for over a year. Consumers are being misled into spending their hard earned money on vehicles that have major mechanical design flaws known to the manufacturer. Once the mechanical flaw is realized, the vehicle can't be repaired for up to two years. Hiding this data from consumers should be criminal. Furthermore, General Motors to this point has been no help, with the GM customer satisfaction team telling us they can't do anything until a dealer diagnosis the issue, and the dealer stating they can't diagnose the issue until May of next year, at which time they would then look to order the motor which will take 9-12 months to deliver and install. The rear seatbelt in my 2022 Chevrolet Suburban RST became dangerously tight around my daughter's waist while she was lying down in the seat. The belt would not release despite multiple attempts. She was hanging off the seat and in distress, and I was forced to cut the belt to prevent injury. This raises serious concerns about the seatbelt retraction mechanism. I request a formal investigation.

Engine lost power and stalled without warning while driving down the highway. Coasted to side of road and was unable to restart engine. After engine stopped, dash indicated low fuel, although tank was 3/4 full. After coming to a stop, was unable to shift out of Park (which could have been a major issue if I had not been able to clear the highway before coming to a stop). Towed vehicle to closest Chevrolet dealer, who replaced the fuel pump control module. Dealer indicated that this is a common failure item to the point that they stock the part and suspected what the failure was based on my description. When pressed, the dealer representative also noted that GM has not updated or redesigned the factory installed fuel pump control module ("the new module installed is exactly the same as the one that failed"). Fortunately, traffic was light and I was able to pull to the side of road. This would be extremely dangerous if it happened while driving on a multi-lane expressway and we were trapped at a stop in heavy, fast moving traffic.

My vehicle was sold as EQUIPPED W/ FRONT/REAR PARK ASSIST; INCLUDES LATER RETROFIT printed on the window sticker . I took delivery nearly 2 years ago and this safety retrofit has still not been completed . I have reached out to GM customer service who provides vague excuses and no further information for repair. I see new GM vehicles just like mine on the lot with these systems installed and working . Isn’t this a serious concern that 2 years later these vehicles have still not been retrofitted ? Are there other concerned customers ? Is there an investigation underway looking for explanations from GM . What more can I do as a consumer to make sure no children are ran over by cars missing these sensors ?

When the vehicle was ordered I paid an extra amount for "driver safety alert package" to include rear and front parking sensors. It's a big car and these are quite important for safe operations. Upon car delivery in 3/2022, I got a note saying the chip operating the driver assist is missing and will be provided later. The dealer promised to install it within a quarter. More than a year went buy, and the service department recently told me that GM would not make the chip available, even tough new cars are now being delivered with the same chip. As GM or the dealer would not respond to my request, I'm filing this complaint, hoping you can get them to finally provide the missing chip and to allow safe operation of the vehicle as ordered.

Summary: Sudden loss of engine power while driving due to lifter failure. Details: While driving my 2022 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 5.3L V8 (RPO L84), the engine suddenly lost power without warning. The vehicle began misfiring and lost propulsion in traffic, creating a hazardous situation. I was unable to maintain normal speed and had to maneuver to safety while the truck rapidly lost power. The dealer later diagnosed the problem as a collapsed lifter/valvetrain failure — an issue that GM has already documented in service bulletins (PIP5776G, 23-NA-043) and a service update (N212353840). These bulletins show GM has long been aware of defective lifters in 5.3L engines. This is not just a drivability concern. A sudden engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving poses a clear safety risk, especially when merging, crossing intersections, or towing. I maintained the vehicle properly and have all service records. I request NHTSA investigate these widespread lifter failures in GM’s 5.3L V8 engines as a safety defect, since they can and do cause sudden loss of power in motion.

1 complaint
The contact owned a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while his wife was driving at approximately 30 MPH she crashed into another vehicle striking the driver's side door of the other vehicle, which then crashed into another vehicle in the rear having been redirected from the force of the impact. The vehicle had been moved in the same direction that the wife's vehicle was traveling. The vehicle that the wife had crashed into had run a stop sign. The contact stated that all the front air bags deployed, however, the wife told him that the passenger side air bag had begun to emit smoke after deploying and then a fire started. The contact stated that the vehicle had stopped after the impact and that his wife was having difficulty unbuckling her seat belt. The wife had stated that OnStar had contacted her the moment following the crash, she told OnStar that she was having trouble unbuckling and that the vehicle was on fire. OnStar released her seat belt. The police, ambulance, and fire department were on the scene. There were no injuries, however, the contact's vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and exploded. The contact stated that the fire department extinguished the fire with water. The police wrote a report. The other two vehicles drove away from the scene, and the contact's vehicle was towed to a police impound lot. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

When I started up the vehicle with the key fab button I noticed the cabin air blower came on as normal however when we went to the cockpit we noticed the engine was not running. When we went to start the vehicle (holding break and pressing start button) the dashboard started the Z71 launch sequence and then went to a dashboard as if I was in the normal drive mode however the dashboard was extremely dimly lit as if the backlight was not on and the engine still was not running. After several attempts to start using the brake+start button method we noticed a clicking sound that seemed to be coming from the engine cabin just in front of the passenger cabin however it would never ignite/start the engine. After several attempts to start the engine through the brake+button, we tried to just press the start button, which would sometimes be prompted on the dashboard, and get some feedback from the dashboard through better backlighting and messages I now cannot recall but never ignited the engine. When we tried again with the key fab x2 button (hoping it would either start or "cancel" the current vehicle state), we received no response from the vehicle. When we attempted to shift, it stated the "conditions were not met", which I perceived as the correct response. The vehicle was stuck in this "mode" with the air blower still running and exterior lights still on and it was only a matter of time until the battery ran out. When it ran out later that day (though not completely ded) in rebooted in the same tweener mode. However, when we came the next day with a tow truck and a fully dead battery in the Suburban, the vehicle booted right up as normal. The tow truck driver indicated several new Tahoe drivers experiencing the same issue. To me, this is a software launch issue. While the vehicle was not perceived to be in danger, it left us stranded in what could be a dangerous location. Several episodes as reported by tow truck. Unsure if inspected. No symptoms before problem.

TIRES
1 complaint
I purchased a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban on December 6, 2022 equipped with4 Bridgestone Alenza A/S 02 tires sized 275 50R22. On December 21, on my way home I hit a bump. When I got home I could audibly hear air leaking out of the passenger rear tire. I called OnStar who sent a tow truck driver out to put the spare on. We could not find a nail or anything in the tire but there was about a 1.5 inch crack in the sidewall about 1 inch away from the rim with nothing sticking in it. I took it to the dealership where I purchased the tire and they ordered a replacement tire. They said that I could file a complaint with the State Department of Transportation if I wanted. It cost me about $328 to repair. On February 12, around 9:00 pm, I was about an hour and a half away from home about to drive back when the tire sensor light came on saying the passenger rear tire had low air pressure. I pulled into a park and went to look and I again could audibly hear air leaking from the tire. I had not hit any bumps this time, but the tire was completely flat within 20 minutes. When the tow truck driver came to put the spare on, I explained to him what happened previously and that was the second time this had happened within 2 months of purchasing the vehicle. He looked at the tire with me and it had the same tear in the sidewall in the same location as the previous tire. There was no nail or object in the tire, just a 1.5 inch long rigid crack. I noticed that there had been a Bridgestone recall for this type of tire for size 275 55R20 in 2021 because of a pin hole in the sidewall. I believe that my tires are defective.
