I dont believe the correct fix is changing Oil Viscocity
Nov 03, 2025
I bought this 2023 Chevy Tahoe rst brand new from the dealer and about a few months of owning it I noticed that the truck was needing oil before the next oil change. It’s as if it was consuming itself. This continues for month until last week when the truck died on me. I was able to jump start and everything worked fine for a day. The next day things got worse. I was on the highway and truck started shaking and giving off all kinds of codes. I took it to dealer and they said I needed a new battery but that there was also an engine problem. I bought a new battery and none of the messages on dash resolved like I was told. The truck is u drivable motor is knocking and was even making loud popping sounds. Of course my truck just hit 64,000 miles so gm is saying I’m out of warranty. I should not be having these types of issues on an almost brand new truck that I’ve owned 2 years. Engine light is flashing and dealer said this means major issue.

The idler pulley was squealing. Dealership I took it to said this was the 3rd one they've had to replace in the last few days.

on [XXX] we bought our 2023 Tahoe High Country from Jeff Gordon Cheverolet in Wilmington NC. In April 2025 a recall was announced on our car for engine failure. In June of 2025 we received a letter stating that a fix for the recall was to have an inspection done. If passed, then an oil change and new cap would be done. This was completed. on [XXX], I was on the highway accelerating to get up the speed, when I heard a loud pop noise. Then i heard loud knocking coming from my engine, the check engine light came on with the traction light as well. The car then had sluggish acceleration and would not accelerate but would have high than normal RPMS and rev when trying to accelerate. I knew then that I had engine failure. I was able to get the car to a safe place and called the dealership right away. They got it towed to Marine Chevy since it was closer. The next day they did an inspection on the vehicle and said the camshaft and lifters were broken and had to be replaced. I said I would need a new engine replaced due to the damage and recall. I was told it would not be under recall because it was the top and not bottom. They said the GM refused the new engine but would not tell me if it was the General Manager or General Motors that refused. I called and texted multiple times asking for pictures. They refused to send me any until 9/9 after multiple attempts. They only sent me one of the rods and rocker arms showing a rod bent and stated it was the lifters. still no pictures of the camshaft broke or lifters. These problems already have multiple class action lawsuits out for this particular engine failure. I was told the recall would still be on the engine even after the repair, I can still have engine failure. I refuse to pay the money for this car to continue to be in the shop due to a bad engine that was put in these models. I also have a case open with General Motors for replacing the engine as well and they are refusing to help. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When i asked Kunez Lake Geneva, Wi. When the engine recall would be taken care of. I was told that GMC has to order the recall first. Then when asking about the process of inspecting. They informed me they would listen to the motor and decide if it was effected or not. I paid $82k for this vehicle. I find that listening to the motor isnt a thorough way of inspection. After they deem the motor ok. There going to put higher viscosity oil & an oil cap. What if something happens in the future. Is my familys life safety not important? Summary General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2021 – 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87). The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. Safety Risk If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the engine. Vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap, an oil filter replacement, and an owner’s manual insert.

I was driving on an interstate when the vehicle check engine light came on and it went into limp mode causing the vehicle to go into low speed in the middle of traffic. Check engine light code P0747
Oct 19, 2025
While traveling on [XXX] approximately 20 miles west of Rawlins WY the vehicle entered “limp mode” causing us to drive at an unsafe slow speed. The transmission caused a check engine light to activate which was confirmed by a service technician in Rawlins with a PO747 code show on his OBD2 scanner. The problem was confirmed by the servicing dealer in Lincoln NE. The transmission was inspected by the servicing dealer. They replaced the valve body and fasteners approximately 1 1/2 months later. The problem first occurred at the time of the incident and I had no prior warning. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Torque converter needed to be replaced, and then a week later still had the same shuttering and loss of power and the valve body needed to be replaced. Got it back and it still is shuddering and hard shifting.

Our 2023 3L diesel Tahoe had 63,000 miles on it and went into limp mode (CEL on) in late April 2025. We took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the valve body as the problem. We continued to drive it (as they mentioned it would be months before a replacement part would be in) while I did some research and discovered the magnitude of the problem. Just google it! Meanwhile, the rear wheels locked up on me after I had picked up our two children from daycare. It felt like we had a log chain hooked to our hitch that snapped us back - really hard! Felt like we had been rear-ended. This could have easily caused us to get in an accident, or worse, but thankfully we were not in heavy traffic. Our dealership was able to provide us a loaner truck. Approx. 50 days later, we were informed that we were approved for a new transmission - which was also on backorder! Almost 80 days later, our new transmission has arrived and been installed. We are very disappointed with how GM has handled the issue. We were lucky our dealer provided a loaner, as many have not. There are after-market providers who clearly state the upgrades they've made to the valves bodies, and while GM says they've upgraded the ones they make now, they won't share any details. I'm aware of this same limp mode/rear wheel lock up happening multiple times (on the same vehicle) to people in very low-mileage vehicles (less than 1000 miles). This isn't a small problem, and GM knows it. We will see how far we get with this "new" transmission, but as you could guess, I don't have high hopes! I just pray that no one gets killed.

Engine light came on. Flagged for a bad transmission valve body. Informed by dealership that the piece is on backorder and has been on back order for months.

The engine in my vehicle has experiences major failures in valve flap adjusters, multiple valve failures, valve cover issues, and over consumption of oil by over a quarter in a week and a half of average driving. My safety was put at risk because the engine failure resulted in traction control malfunctions while going 70 mph up hill on a major interstate. This led to extreme shaking which did not stop until slowing down to below 15 mph. Luckily I was a mile from an exit and was able to coast off the road quickly; it was decent enough weather, and I was less than 5 miles from my destination so I could creep between 15-30 mph to not exacerbate traction control alarms. That slow mph did back up traffic behind me. As far as I am aware the problem was likely reproduced by the dealership service tech, which led to their recommendation to replace the whole engine. They do not consider it to be covered by any warranty anymore. The engine may be in their possession still, but I am unsure. There were zero warning lights/prompts from the vehicle that anything was going wrong prior to the shaking and loss of traction control at high speed. The dealer service team suggested that my high miles led to the engine failure. I do highway driving with it and have followed all manufacturer recommendations for oil changes, and even more frequent changes with OEM oil since about 80k miles. I do not think this engine should have failed at this amount of mileage. I made note of oil consumption around 95k miles and measured oil loss regularly. It was a little less than a quart every 2K to 3k miles which manufacturer states is within spec so I would top off oil. A year ago it had a TCM wire replaced after burning in half. 3 weeks ago I also had to replace the entire turbo. The wire rendered my car unable to go in gear. The turbo failure put me into limp mode. I think the turbo failure was a sign of a deeper issue that went undiagnosed.

While driving on the highway at high speed, my vehicle suddenly shut down and went into neutral. After a few minutes of trying to start it, it started and I was able to drive it home. The following day, on my way to the dealership for an inspection, while driving on a busy street, it shut down again. This time, it wouldn't restart, and I had to call the police and a tow truck to have it towed to the dealership. I was freaking out as I had my daughter inside the car with me. At that point, the vehicle had around 26,000 miles. The dealership inspected it and determined the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. After the engine was replaced, the vehicle seemed fine, but recently, I've been experiencing problems again. The car struggles to start when it shuts off during stops, using the auto shut-off feature, and there's an intermittent hard shifting issue. It feels like the engine is failing again or maybe the transmission, but I've been told that unless the dealership can replicate the issue when I bring it in, they can't do anything. I'm concerned about being stranded on the road again, especially since my daughter is always with me. The vehicle’s engine and mechanical components don’t seem reliable, and I no longer feel safe driving it. However, I have no other option as it is my daily car for work and everything else. I’ve asked for an extended warranty from the dealership after the engine replacement, but I was told GMC doesn’t offer one for this issue. I’ve seen others on social media report similar problems, and I want to share my experience, as I’m just one of many customers facing this issue.

Repeated issues with the infotainment system had to be replaced 3 times to date. The motor blew at 49,000 miles 3 weeks ago. The replacement motor is on back order and it is very difficult to get a loaner vehicle, not to mention having to make a payment on the vehicle that I don’t have to use.

Traveling on the interstate late at night in the winter with my family, which includes small children, a clicking noise began but then went away. No diagnostic lamps came on, everything seemed fine, vehicle responded appropriately. Moments later, on a remote stretch of interstate, we lost power and the engine shut down. The vehicle would not turn back on. We were stranded in the dark on a freezing night.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that soon after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle's lane assist feature would be active with no other vehicles in the contact vehicle's vicinity. The contact also stated that multiple other electrical defects would occur such as the backup camera activating while in drive(D), the instrument panel intermittently going blank, and various other defects. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions where they failed to duplicate the failure. The contact then stated that while driving at 80 MPH, the instrument panel went blank. The contact attempted to pull the vehicle over; however, an unknown turn-off of the vehicle warning message appeared on the instrument panel as a warning chime was also emitted from the vehicle. The contact then stated that the vehicle then came to an abrupt stop where the engine and brakes seized, while traveling at 34 MPH. Due to the failure, the contact was taken to the hospital where they were treated for whiplash, inflammation in the neck and spine, 7 bulging discs in the spine, and pain in various parts of the body. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure; the vehicle's engine was replaced under warranty. Despite the repair, the contact refused to take possession of the vehicle as they did not feel safe driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; the contact had yet to receive any assistance from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

The sounds from the radio works only 10% of the time, the radio sound also is what produces the turn signal blinking sound. Additionally there is a scratching noise coming from the speakers almost like a bad signal from the tuner. This is very distracting and a safety concern, especially when the turn signal does not audible make a sound. When I call Chevy they say it will be $300 to diagnose, and if you look online this is a known issue amongst newer model Chevy.
Jun 10, 2025
This is a brand new vehicle with a known problem to GM yet they keep selling them and admit they cannot fix it. The audio system, including the blinker sound, is warning systems and hands free phone capabilities do not work properly, if at all. This is a distraction while driving - especially when it comes to phone use. It is deceptive and putting public safety at risk, not to mention costing consumers thousands of dollars. Their built in safety system (onstar) cannot be accessed due to lack of audio rendering it useless in a crash/emergency which is a selling point they tout. I do have video of this occurring. Dealership says they cannot repair and that consumers are just stuck with expensive vehicles they cannot rely on.

2nd Powertrain failure in 4 months in 2023 Tahoe with 6.2L engine. The first being the Camshaft and lifters failing at highway speeds, which was repaired. The second issue the engine seized while on a tollway going approx 70 MPH with my spouse, children, and family in the vehicle. We were able to coast to the shoulder while waiting on a tow truck. Because of the engine being seized, the Tahoe is waiting on the engine to be replaced. While we wait, we were told they have no loaner vehicles and there are no GM rental vehicles available with who they contract through. Having a 2023 leased vehicle fail twice in 4 months with children in the vehicle is unacceptable and brings to question the safety and reliability of the vehicle moving foreward.

Engine replacement at 13,260 miles due to thrown rods in cylinders 7 and 8 in September 2023. The vehicle is currently at the dealership again at 32,000 miles due to transmission issues. No ETA on replacement parts. Up to date on all maintenance and oil changes.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission valve body had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Apr 10, 2025
Traveling down the highway at 65 MPH the engine/transmission started bucking and you could hear the rear wheel lock up. The vehicle then would not shift and reduced the speed to 55MPH. Check engine light came on. Chevrolet is telling me the valve body needs to be replaced but keep driving it because it is on national backorder. After doing some research GM is hiding the issue and keeps installing faulty valve bodies. The GM fix is that they programmed the transmission to reduce speed when it notices excessive wear. GM is not standing behind the issue as it has been like pulling teeth to get a loaner vehicle.

I was driving my 2023 Tahoe on the interstate, in the far left lane. I had my wife and 2 kids in the car. Suddenly I noticed the air turned off and the dashboard screen went blank. I noticed that the car was now in neutral and the accelerator was not providing any response. I put on my hazards and started to merge across 7 lanes of highway without using brakes because we were going up a hill. We lost momentum in the second to last lane and could not move. The Tahoe then switched to park and the electrical system kept shutting off and rebooting. This also resulted in the hazard lights turning off for brief moments in time, so it was not effectively alerting other travelers of our dysfunction. (This repeated for the next 30 minutes until the battery died.) During that 30 minutes we were stuck in the lane with traffic buzzing around both sides of us honking and people screaming at us. My wife and 2 young children were upset and crying from the commotion. Poluce and emergency response team arrived, flagged traffic and drug the vehicle off the road.car was stuck in Park, with no ability to move to neutral. So tire rubber was smeared across the last 2 lanes and into the right shoulder. Later a tow truck arrived and hauled to dealership. The car had ~11,000 miles and bought the vehicle 2 months ago. This should not happen with new cars.

While driving down the road, we heard what sounded like a gunshot into our vehicle! I pulled over and my top panoramic sunroof had exploded! There was no “point of impact” - no rock or falling debris, we were only going 45mph. It blew up and left fracture lines throughout the sunroof glass from the explosion. I just bought this car less than a month ago from the dealership (used but only 33k miles).

I purchased a brand-new 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. One of the key reasons for choosing this vehicle was its built-in safety and connectivity features, including the OnStar system. I also pay more than $50/month for an OnStar subscription, trusting that the service would provide essential safety functionality. Recently, the OnStar system in my vehicle stopped working. I received no warning, no service bulletin, and no notice from GM or OnStar of thhe failure or that this was a known issue. Upon diagnosis, I was informed that the OnStar module had failed and would need to be replaced—at a cost of $822 out of pocket. OnStar is a core safety feature that GM actively promotes as part of the vehicle’s value and security. For such a critical system to fail in a vehicle that is barely two years old is unacceptable. I believe this constitutes a product defect that GM/OnStar should be held accountable for, especially since multiple consumers are reporting similar issues on public forums. Most of all I had no indication in the vehicle of the failure; there was no check engine or issue light indicating a failure. When I called onstar the only explanation I got was that I should have noticed that the onstar light was out. That’s not sufficient for a safety item you expect to work like the breaks.

Driving down a street we heard a loud boom almost sounded like something exploded We looked around but saw nothing. Then started hearing noises from the sunroof Sure enough it had exploded Not cracked And it is smashed outwardly not in therefore not something that hit it or caused impact from the outside in. We researched it and seems to be a known ongoing issue. Very dangerous as it is happening more and more. It definitely startled us and could have been a scary situation if we had been on the highway. Also dangerous if that glass falls on you while driving.

On 12/3/2025, I moved my car in the driveway at 11:15am EST without any issue. At 6pm EST, myself and 2 young daughters got into the car to head out an hour away. As I went to drive away, I stepped on the brake and the car did not immediately stop…the brakes failed and came to a rolling stop. At that moment all types of warning and lights lit up the dashboard. I placed the car in park exactly where it was in the driveway and left it. I also tried to select the Ebrake and it would not engage. I called the dealer first thing the next morning as that had been closed at the time it happened. I was told to bring it in and not to drive it so nobody in my car or else would be at risk. The car was towed at my expense to the dealer. When I got in touch with the dealer that afternoon to get a status. They advised the believe the BCM needed to be updated because it seem to not be communicating properly but wanted to keep it over night to retest it before they sent me home with it. Going to point out several things…thankfully I had not left my house, as I live on a mountain and should that have happened while descending it could have been catastrophic. No warning or anything that the brakes would fail! According to records it shows the did a recall update back in Feb 2025 regarding the BCM- however, how are we sure it truly was fixed or was defective. GM/Chevy needs to take accountability for this defect and safety hazard that could result in death. In reading forums, I am not the only one this has happened to

On multiple occasions my vehicle brakes with no warning. So much so I can hear the tires screech ever time. I brought to a dealership and they told me they can’t find the issue and no fault codes. This is understandable due to the fact that it doesn’t always happen. It’ll go so times a full day without happening. It mostly happens on the highway but happened today (24-July-2025) around 17:30. So needless to say this is a huge issue especially seeing I have three small children. Thank you so much for your time in this matter and I hope this finds you well.

1st incident- Engine had a bad lifter and cam shaft with 46,000miles. When this happened I was going through a railroad crossing, if the failure was bad enough and locked the engine up I would have been stuck on the tracks with my family. This issue could cause the motor to lock up if the lifter or cam shaft had a more serious failure. Dealer confirmed the lifter and cam shaft were bad and replaced. the engine had a vibration 2 weeks before the failure but the dealership could not identify or duplicate the issue. Vehicle was in the shop for 35 days to repair. 2nd incident- Parking brake and brake system locked up and would not release until the vehicle was reset. Scheduled vehicle to be towed in and the brakes locked up again while loading the vehicle to tow. Dealer is still troubleshooting the issue after 5 days. Errors on screen "Forward Collision System unavailable, Brake system failure 43mph top speed, Service steering column lock, service traction control, Service ESC, Service Brake Pad Monitor" If this happened while on the highway it had the chance to cause a serious wreck.

I filled my car up with gas and turned it on and it started shaking. Several warnings popped up on the dashboard screen including, Service ESC, Service traction control, And forward collision system unavailable. My cruise control was disabled I had to hold my foot at an angle to keep the speed at 45-50 mph, Causing it to take 10 hours for me to get home from Austin to Dallas. The check engine light was on the entire time and flashed for the last hour to hour and a half. I was unable to pull over at that time because it was dark And I was in the middle of nowhere by myself. The next day I turned my car on.The only thing on was the check engine light, Is , however , around 1 pm that day it Started doing the same thing. I drove it from My patient's house in allen To galleria chevrolet in Dallas. They told me my battery was too low to run diagnostics and I needed to replace it. So I bought a battery and brought it to them. They replaced the Next morning And told me there were no codes showing up so There was nothing wrong with my car and it was a fluke. Exactly one week later the same thing happened to my car. I called the dealership and they Hao it toewd to the service dept. After I repeatedly called them to check on the status of my car, they told me it was the fuel injector #1. They then were able to apply for a loaner car for me as I am a hospice nurse. These are same exact issues that the GM 6.2 L engines are having with the recall they just announced. I have a 5.3 L engine. I am afraid to put my kids in my car. Please help get GM to take responsibility for this!

After getting gas just outside of Pueblo Colorado on [XXX] I was entering [XXX] and luckily I was in the right lane when all of a sudden no power to the vehicle. I was able to make it by inches in the clear on the shoulder of the road. Being [XXX], I had trouble crawling over the console through the passenger side of the vehicle because I could not safely see the traffic on the interstate to exit the vehicle on the driver side. The state police could not come to assist us with any type of traffic control because of other accidents. The BNSF railroad has a mutual aid pack with them when needed in an emergency situation. They were able to come assist us with the red lights for traffic control, and the tow truck arrived and was able to flatbed the vehicle to a GM Chevy dealership. The tow truck also delivered our 26 foot travel trailer to the nearby campground. If it wouldn’t have been for the BNSF police this could’ve been horrendous accident because of the traffic. I have never been in a more scary situation as with the 2023 Tahoe built by a major corporation and being as unsafe as it is. I have been told the engine needs to be replaced because the bearings failed with metal fragments found in the oil pan. GM has been aware of this problem with the 6.2 engine for many years and has never done anything. Is it gonna take people getting killed on the highway to get something done. I am writing to express my deep frustration with a recent issue I have encountered with my brand new 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe (VIN: [XXX] ). Following the expiration of my complimentary OnStar subscription, I discovered that all voice-activated and Bluetooth functions are inoperable unless I purchase a separate wireless plan at $25 / month which I cannot afford. This is a stark contrast to my previous six Chevrolets, all of which allowed hands-free phone calls and navigation functionalities via Bluetooth without requiring an additional subscription. I have contacted two Chevrolet dealerships, spoken with numerous employees, and reached out to OnStar, spending a total of nearly two hours on the phone attempting to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, no solution has been found. My primary concern is safety. Manually operating my phone while driving is unacceptable, and in some states illegal, putting myself and others at risk. Additionally, the lack of hands-free navigation significantly detracts from the convenience and value of the vehicle. While I appreciate the technological advancements in the 2023 Tahoe, the current system feels restrictive and potentially detrimental to customer safety. I understand the potential for additional revenue through data plans, but I believe the potential for unsafe driving and safety concerns outweighs this consideration. Less than four weeks after having purchased a new 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LT the backup and 360-degree surround vision camera system completely failed. The cameras would intermittently flicker or would lose connection all together preventing the driver from being able to reverse having the benefit of the camera vision. The rearview camera screen turns black with a red triangle containing an exclamation point alongside a "no camera" circle symbol. The Chevrolet dealer has inspected the vehicle and has confirmed the camera computer is defective and cannot be fixed - a replacement module with recalibration of the cameras is necessary. The vehicle cannot be driven safely, and thus has been with the dealer now for 18 days, with no time table from either the dealer or from General Motors as to replacement of the failed component. The vehicle had been driven less than 700 miles before this failure occurred.

The car was parked totally normal, went into a store, then came out to start it and when it was put in drive every light on the dash came on and gave a warning for “brake system failure top speed 43 mph” “service traction control” “service esc” “service steering column lock” “service brake pad monitor” “trailer brakes disabled service required”. Shut the vehicle off and restarted with same results. Brakes were inoperable and almost hit the car parked in front of me. Let the car shut down for a couple hours came back and started it and now everything acts normal except there is a Check engine light. Haven’t read the codes yet but am making an appointment at the dealer for warranty work.

While Driving to my appointments via the freeway, all of a sudden the vehicle slowed down, I noticed most of the warning lights were on including the check engine light that was blinking. I Happened to be near a GMC dealership which previously did repair work on my vehicle and left it with their service center for a diagnostic inspection. A week later my service advisor contacted me with their Vehicle condition report that my vehicle had camshaft and internal engine group issues. He quoted repairs but recommended replacing the engine. Repair or engine replacement $21,296.51. Six months before this issue I had the same issue the warning lights and it resorted in replacing the brake control cylinder. Once repaired no issues/messages or symptoms with my vehicle until this current engine problem/replacement.

The car presented steering lock column issues with repair lights on at 50 miles. Since then, they have repaired the system numerous times and replaced that system fully twice. They also replaced the manual start system and six other pieces of the car over 18 visits to two different Chevy dealerships. The car still reduces speed and stops acceleration, has electric issues in the windows, lights and gate etc.

I was driving down [XXX] in LaPuente and every light on my dash lit up and I attempted to Exit freeway and my brakes would not work so I waited for car to slow down and luckily I was near by the Puente hills Chevrolet dealer. Also my steering wheel was very lose and it felt that I couldn’t steer well. I pulled into dealership and had to push my brakes all the way to the floor board just for Tahoe to stop. POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
1 complaint
While traveling on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost all power. The gas pedal became unresponsive, and the engine ceased functioning entirely—without any prior warning or indicators. I was forced to coast into a nearby parking lot to prevent a potential collision. This incident put both myself and my child at serious risk of injury or worse, had it occurred at a higher speed or in heavier traffic. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. I had no choice but to have it towed to the dealership for evaluation. A week later, the dealership diagnosed the issue as a locked-up engine, confirming that a full engine replacement is necessary. Unfortunately, the replacement engine is currently on backorder, and they are unable to provide an estimated time of arrival. To make matters worse, the dealership has no loaner vehicles available for at least a month. GM only offers a rental reimbursement of $44 per day, which is significantly below the cost of even a basic rental vehicle in our area ($74/day). This leaves me with limited transportation options, even though I am currently making monthly payments of over $1,400 on a vehicle that is completely unusable. Adding to the severity of this situation, the vehicle is also subject to a manufacturer recall, but no remedy or parts are currently available to resolve the issue. As a parent of multiple children, this entire experience has left me shaken. I cannot begin to imagine the consequences had this failure happened at a higher speed or in less forgiving conditions. I am extremely concerned for my family’s safety going forward. GM has stated they will not extend or provide additional warranty coverage until the repair is complete, which leaves me feeling unprotected and anxious about the future reliability of this vehicle. The absence of warning signs and the total loss of power while driving make this a critical safety concern that must be addressed. I urge NHTSA to hold the manufacturer accountable.

First the front collision warning systems kept coming on and off. Then the engine died on the highway and I had to restart. I drove a little further and it died again and would not restart. It was very dangerous to have the car die twice while at speed on the highway.

While slowing for a red light my vehicle shut off, completely powered off. I had to press the ignition start button to turn it back on. I pulled to the side of the road, then two messages flashed on the dash screen, Service Transmission and Service Brake Assist. I called and scheduled a vehicle service at a local Chevrolet service center. After the service center evaluated my vehicle (in their possession for 72 hours) they stated there were no diagnostic findings and they could not replicate the issue. A vehicle randomly shutting off with no identifiable or repairable issue is a public safety concern.

Onstar Telematics Module failure. Part is on backorder with no ETA. This module failure removes the navigation, Onstar services including safety notifications, clocks can stop working, Android auto/Apple Carplay services are not functional or intermittently working. My vehicle has stalled out at a red light. GM is refusing to cover the replacement saying it is out of the bumper to bumper to warranty but they have so many of these needing replaced they can't say when they will get the parts. Module has been confirmed dead by a mechanic at a private shop and by the dealership. GM states this is under the bumper to bumper to warranty even though it controls parts of the power train and should be covered under powertrain warranty as well.

The infotainment screed goes black. To get it to go on you have to turn the car off, get out of the car with the key fob so the vehicle is completely disconnected and wait 10 to 15 minutes. After it starts working the infotainment systems "crashes" in about 30 to 45 minutes. It is a constant problem. The infotainment system includes all vehicle safety systems settings and speaker. The warnings will not work because the speaker is not working. Also the On Star system will not work in case of an emergency. On Star uses the infotainment system to work. I can not stop all the time so it dangerous while driving. I took it to the dealer and they said GM knows about the problem but does not have a fix. The problem started near the end of June, 2024. The issue was reproduced by the dealer.

TIRES
1 complaint
Tire is torn in the sidewall at the bead inside the rim edge. The tire had less than 10,000 miles on it and was installed on March 14th 2023, failing around [XXX] (around 9 months of use). It had been installed on a set of Chevrolet wheels before arriving at the dealership and that tire/wheel combo was installed on the Tahoe by Chevrolet in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The tire failure appeared to occur without provocation and failed on a 2.1 mile drive from the store home. The tire on the rim was mostly covered by the edge of the rim and it was very hard to spot visually. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. Upon dismount for replacement, the damage appears to be a tear or rip and does not appear to be puncture damage. The tire was replaced at Chevrolet and they noted that there was no reason for the damage (and charging us for the failure). The tire was then shipped to Bridgestone and was returned to the Chevrolet dealer and it was explained that they said, "it happens". The only warning lamp that illuminated was the TPMS low pressure warning as the tire quickly deflated. I still have the tire in my possession for inspection. My safety was put at risk because the tear occurred during normal driving and without provocation. Luckily we were in the neighborhood and speed was 25 mph. Had this happened on the interstate, the outcome could have been quite different. This was a Bridgestone Alenza A/S 02 275/50R22 111H M+S dated 5022. Thank you! I've had my 2023 Tahoe for 15 months, purchased Dec. 2023 Issue #1. Dash message on start up " Restraint System Needs Service". I noticed small lights overhead (buttons for tail gate, sun roof, reading lamps) were off. I pressed some of them, and dash message went away, and lights came on. Everything worked fine. I've narrowed it down to the passenger side reading light. When dash warning comes on, I press reading light, and whalla! all works fine. This has happened about 6 times over the last year. Issue #2. After driving many hours (9 hr drive, then a 2hr drive, then 4hr hr drive on different days/nights) in rain with wipers in auto mode, using defrost on and off as needed. Suddenly, wipers stop working as well as headlights in auto mode! Scary. Pulled over and waited with engine off. Restarted and still nothing. I was able to use headlights in full ON mode. I turned the wiper switch all the way from top-pulse to the full-on 4-6 times really quick back and forth, and like magic, everything worked again! This has happened 3 times in the last 2 months (always during several hours of rainy weather driving). Dealer says they can't fix what they can't witness. I suppose my only recourse is to video tape it and then show dealership.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the "service safety restraint system", warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic was performed; the diagnostic showed that there was a defect in the overhead module which rendered her airbag ineffective. The contact was informed that the part to repair the vehicle was on backorder and was given a time estimate of six weeks after the diagnostic was performed. The contact recently called the dealer and was informed that part was still unavailable and that there was no longer an ETA on the part. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 15,000.
