The contact owns a 1994 Ford Crown Victoria. The contact stated that while his brother was driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the pedal became spongy. Additionally, the ABS warning light was illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a leak coming from the brake line. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 94V152000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 300,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD CROWN VICTORIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM CONTINUED TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INVESTIGATED THE FAILURE AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKING HARDWARE SEPARATED AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILURE AFFECTED THE AXLE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 94V152000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 76,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD CROWN VICTORIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN AUGUST OF 2007. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007, SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL DISCONNECTED. IN MARCH OF 2008, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE AND TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WORKED NORMALLY AFTER THE REPAIR; HOWEVER, WHEN SHE RETURNED HOME IN MAY 27, 2008, THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD NEVER WORKED. PRIOR TO HAVING THE CRUISE CONTROL DISCONNECTED, IT WORKED FINE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE FAILURE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE DISCONNECT AND REPAIR. ON THE DATE NOTED, I PARKED MY 1994 FORD CROWN VICTORIA IN MY DRIVEWAY SHUT IT OFF AND WENT INSIDE TO PERFORM SOME ERRANDS. WHILE INSIDE I HEARD A LARGE BOOM, FOLLOWED BY A CAR HORN SOUNDING INTERMITTENTLY. I RAN TO THE WINDOW EXPECTING TO SEE A VEHICLE CRASH BY MY HOUSE AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING THROUGH THE HOOD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE NEAR THE POWER BOOSTER AREA ,WITH A LARGE HOLE WHERE THE HOOD USED TO BE. THE FLAMES WERE SHOOTING ABOUT 10-12 FEET INTO THE AIR AND IGNITED THE PITCH PINE AND LEAVES ADJACENT TO THE VEHICLE. I CALLED 911 TO REPORT THE FIRE, RAN OUTSIDE AND USED MY GARDEN HOSE TO CONTAIN THE FIRE UNTIL FIRE APPARATUS ARRIVED. THE DRIVERS SIDE UNDER HOOD AREA WAS ESPECIALLY GUTTED AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, DESTROYING VARIOUS PERSONAL ITEMS ALONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND SOME SMALL TREES BELONGING TO MY NEIGHBORS. THE LOCAL FIRE MARSHALL DID AN INVESTIGATION ALONG WITH TAKING NUMEROUS PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE AND STATED IT WAS ACCIDENTAL IN NATURE AND STARTED, AS MY DESCRIPTION PREVIOUSLY STATES,IN THE DRIVERS SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, AND GIVEN MY LACK OF INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT, I HAD NO REASON TO WANT TO DESTROY MY ONLY MEANS OF EARNING A MY LIVELIHOOD. *TR

AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM (TIE ROD) BALL JOINT CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR WAS CONTROLLABLE AND PULLED TO THE SHOULDER. IT WAS LATER TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE.*AK A CHECK OF TSBS/RECALLS REVEALED THAT FORD HAD INITIATED A RECALL FOR CERTAIN CROWN VICTORIAS, SPECIFICALLY 1990-1996 POLICE, FLEET, AND NGV VEHICLES. FORD (LOCAL DEALER AND CORPORATE) HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE PROBLEM BUT CLAIM THE VEHICLE WAS NOT THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL ACTION. THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION WAS EQUIPPED WITH A "HANDLING & PERFORMANCE PACKAGE" WHICH MAY HAVE INCORPORATED A STEERING LINKAGE SIMILAR TO THAT SUBJECT TO FORD'S RECALL. I'M CONCERNED FOR SEVERAL REASONS. FIRST, WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND IT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND INSPECTED ANNUALLY; THE JOINT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. SECOND, THE JOINT COULD BE THE VERY SAME ONE THAT WAS THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL. AFTER DRIVING 30 MILES, I PARKED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY AT MY HOME. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LATER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE UNDER THE ENGINE HOOD. MY SON STUMBLED ACROSS THIS WHEN HE COULDN'T FIND THE ORIGINAL CONNECTOR FOR THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP THAT I ORDERED A FEW DAYS AGO THAT WAS HARD TO FIND. THEY CHANGED THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP TO A NEW ONE WITH A DIFFERENT CONNECTOR. ONE OF THEIR RECALLS WAS FAULTY CONNECTORS. THE CONNECTOR ON MY CAR WAS THE ORIGINAL AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSED MY FUEL PUMP TO CATCH FIRE. THE HOOD LATCH I DIDN'T KNOW WAS A RECALL AND IT BROKE A WHILE BACK, I DIDN'T THINK NOTHING OF IT UNTIL MY HOOD FLEW UP AND SMASHED MY WINDSHIELD!! PLEASE TELL ME I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO CAUGHT ONTO THIS! PLEASE HELP AND INVESTIGATE!!! MY SON THINKS IT ALL STEMMED FROM THE PROGRAM SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE LEAKING SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS).

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE REPAIR FOR RECALL 08V051000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, CRUISE CONTROL WAS PERFORMED, THE ODOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD CROWN VICTORIA. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE AND THEN DRIVE, AND THE VEHICLE INSTANTLY WENT OUT OF CONTROL. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET BEFORE IT STRUCK A TREE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE, BUT WAS NOT DESTROYED. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE TREE AT A LARGE DEGREE. THE HOOD WAS ALSO BENT. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE PURCHASE DATE AND SPEED WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD CROWN VICTORIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN AUGUST OF 2007 FOR A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. SHE RECEIVED A SECOND RECALL NOTICE FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL IN FEBRUARY OF 2008. ON FEBRUARY 22, 2008, THE CONTACT HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND TURN SIGNALS ACTIVATED, SHE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE BASE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER ON THE 25TH OF FEBRUARY AND THEY INSTALLED A LOCK-SET AND SWITCH ASSEMBLY DIRECTION. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT SHE SHOULD RECEIVE COMPENSATION FOR TRAVEL EXPENSES TO AND FROM THE DEALER AS WELL AS FOR WORRY OF A POTENTIAL FIRE. THE PURCHASE DATE AND RECALL NUMBERS WERE UNKNOWN. I HAVE REPEATEDLY REQUESTED MY VEHICLE TO BE CHECKED FOR THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: 1) THE ENGINE NOCKS EXCESSIVELY WHENEVER GOING UP HILL. 2) THE VEHICLE INSTERMITTENTLY EMITS A HIGH PITCHED ELECTRONIC BEEPING SOUND SIMILAR TO A TUNING FORK. IT SOUNDS SIMILAR TO SOUNDS COMING FROM PERSONAL COMPUTERS. THIS SOUND OCCURS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NOCKING OF THE ENGINE. I HAVE REQUESTED THE VEHICLE BE INSPECTED BY THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, BUT THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE IT. I POINTED OUT TO THEM THAT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE CAR'S POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) BUT THEY CLAIM THEY UNVERIFIED PROBLEM IS UNRELATED TO THAT COMPONENT. INCIDENTALLY, THE SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER IS 96-25-11. THE BULLETIN INSTRUCTS THE TECHNICIAN TO REPROGRAM THE PCM. THANKS. *AK
