1. I HAVE A 2001 FORD EXCURSION. I HAD FIRESTONE STEELTEX A/T LT 265-75 R16'S ALL THE WAY AROUND MY VEHICLE. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD A BLOW OUT; IT WAS THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. WE GOT OUT LOOKED AT THE TIRE AND THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED. THE STEEL IN THE TIRE TORN UP THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND WHEEL WELL AND DID A LOT OF DAMAGE UNDERNEATH AND TO MY GRILL GUARD. WITHIN LESS THAN 50 MILES, MY OTHER FRONT TIRE WENT OUT. BUT WITH THIS ONE THE TREAD WAS PULLING AWAY AND FALLING OFF (AGAIN TEARING UP THE BODY AS IT WENT). THE TIRE NEVER BLEW BUT THE TREAD DID ENOUGH DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK THAT IT WILL HAVE TO BE FIXED ON THAT SIDE ALSO. THE BODY OF MY TRUCK WILL NEED WORK. WHEN I OPEN MY DOORS THEY POP BECAUSE IT IS RUBBING ON THE FRAME THAT HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK. WHEN WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION IT WAS LATE SATURDAY SO WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL SUNDAY (WHICH WAS EASTER SUNDAY AND NOT MANY PLACES WERE OPEN). WE WENT TO SEARS AND HAD NEW TIRES PUT ALL THEY WAY AROUND THE VEHICLE. WE WERE NOT GOING TO TAKE THE CHANCE OF THE BACK ONES SEPARATING ON THE WAY HOME. *JB

AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. 2001 FORD EXCURSION SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING OR STOPPED. IT WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THIS HAPPEN ON AVERAGE 2 A WEEK. FROM THAT POINT TO PRESENT. THE VEHICLE IS A PSD AND HAD ITS CSP REPLACE SEVERAL TIMES. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPEN WHILE STOPPED AT STOP LIGHT, DRIVING 65MPH, PULLING A TRAILER AND IS NOW PUTTING NEEDLESS PERSONS AT RISK. I HAVE PERSONALLY REPLACED THE CPS, THE VALVE COVER GASKETS, THE PCM HAS BEEN CHECKED AND THE DEALER STILL STATES THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE EXCURSION. *TR

I HAVE A FORD EXCURSION 2001 V10 WITH 123K I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT WITH VERY LITTLE ENGINE TORQUE AT THE TIME WHEN I HAD A "SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT" THE SPARK PLUG WAS BLOWN OUT OF THEIR HEAD AND IN TURN TOOK OUT THE COIL.. WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT FILLED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITH GAS FUMES AND THE SPARK PLUG WAS STILL ATTACHED TO THE CABLE AND PROVIDING A SPARK. WITH THE SPARK I FEEL THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BUT BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE TRUCK AS SOON AS IT HAPPENED THERE WAS NO FIRE. FORD KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE A REPAIR KIT WITH A INSERT TO PUT IN THE HEAD TO REPAIR IT. THE FORD DEALER REPAIRED IT AT A COST OF $344.18 BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS COMMON IN MOST OF THE TRITON ENGINES FORD HAS. I THINK THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE UNDER THE HOOD HAD IT NOT BEEN THAT I WAS SITTING AT A LIGHT AND TURNED IT OFF AS SOON AS IT HAPPENED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS OR RECALLS OPEN FOR THE FAILURE AND THAT THEY WOULD BE SENDING THE INFORMATION TO THEIR TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT FOR REVIEW. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR 2001 FORD EXCURSION WITH MYSELF AND OUR 19 MONTH OLD BABY DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WHEN IT BEGAN TO SMOKE AND IGNITED A FIRE DIRECTLY UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. WE WERE IN TRAFFIC, MADE IT A POINT THAT WE COULD PULL OVER, GET OUT, REMOVING THE BABY FROM THE CHILD'S SEAT, AND THE FRONT SEAT WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. 911 WAS CALLED, AND THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT OF THE TRUCK, EXCEPT THE IRON SHELL AND IRON STRUCTURES WHERE THE SEATS USED TO BE. WE HAD THE RECALL PARTS REPLACED PREVIOUSLY, AND WE HAD JUST DRIVEN TO VA, HAVING SOME SMOKE UNDER THE STIRRING COLUMN AND A FUSE TO BLOW. WE TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER IN VA, PLACING IT ON THE DIAGNOSTICS MACHINE, REPLACING THE FUSE, AND TELLING US THAT IT SHOULD BE FINE. CRUISE CONTROL CUTOUT SWITCH MOUNTED ON MASTER CYLINDER IS FULL OF BRAKE FLUID INCLUDING THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE VIN NUMBER DOESN'T LINK TO A RECALL. PERHAPS THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD SWITCH REPLACED UNDER RECALL OR PERHAPS THIS VIN WASN'T IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL. IN ANY EVENT A FIRE HAZARD IS PRESENT.

SOON AFTER THAT I CAME HOME AND PARKED MY 2001 EXCURSION IN MY BACK YARD. ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES LATER I CHECK ON MY KIDS AND I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF MY EXCURSION. SOON AFTER THAT I SAW FIRE AND THE WHOLE EXCURSION WAS UP IN FLAMES. MY CAR WAS PARKED AND LOCKED THERER WAS NO FIRE OR SMOKE WHEN I LOCKED THE VEHICLE AND CAME IN THE HOUSE. THE VEHICLE IS TOTALED. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE ON THURSDAY OF LAST WEEK BUT THE NOTICE WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY IT JUST SAID CALL YOUR LOCAL FORD DEALER WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE TO HAVE THIS TAKEN CARE OF. PARKED MY 2001 FORD EXCURSION DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HOME IN CENTER OF THE CIRCULAR DRIVE APPROX 4 FT FROM FRONT DOOR. TURNED OFF VEHICLE & WENT INSIDE HOUSE TO BED. AFTER ABOUT 50 MINS, (12:15 AM JULY 17TH) STARTLED BY LOUD SOUND OUTSIDE. I OPENED THE FRONT DOOR OF HOME AND SAW EXCURSION ABLAZE ON DRIVEWAY WHERE I HAD PARKED IT. I WOKE UP FAMILY, (WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN) SENT THEM NEXT DOOR, CALLED 911. QUICKLY RAN OUTSIDE DROVE MY CADILLAC AWAY FROM THE EXCURSION. FLAMES LEAPT 16 TO 20 FEET IN AIR. NEIGHBOR AND I GRABBED WATER HOSES AND ABLE TO CONTAIN TILL THE FIRE DEPT ARRIVED 15 MINUTES LATER. MY FAMILY TRAUMATIZED! THANK GOODNESS WAS NOT PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THIS WAS A REAL STRUGGLE TO KEEP FIRE CONTAINED. SOME SMOKE INHALATION AND CONTINUED COUGH SINCE INCIDENT. NATIONWIDE INSURANCE SAID CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH!!. AN INDEPENDENT FORENSIC FIRE INVESTIGATOR FROM ADVANCED INVESTIGATIVE CONCEPTS, (AIC-FIRE ) INVESTIGATED CAUSE OF FIRE EXAMINING EVIDENCE ON JULY 19, 2005. DETERMINED ORIGIN AND CAUSE. FROM THEIR REPORT THEY STATED THAT, "THE FIRE ORIGINATED AT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER LOCATED IN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE PORTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. A PASSERBY KNOCKED ON OUR FRONT DOOR LETTING US KNOW OUR 2001 FORD EXCURSION PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY WAS SMOKING. WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND WHILE WAITING FOR THEM, DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES TO SHUT OFF ANY POWER TO THE VEHICLE. A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE. WHILE I REALIZE THAT THERE WAS NO COLLATERAL DAMAGE THIS TIME, MY TRUCK HAS NINE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO IT AGAIN. EXCURSION WAS BOUGHT 7-01 APPROXIMATELY 3MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE HEAD LAMP SWITCH BROKE OFF. TOOK TRUCK INTO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD BE 190.00 TO FIX. UPON RESEARCH FOUND THAT THE 2000 MODEL EXCURSION HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM [NHTSA RECALL NO. 01V075/FORD RECALL NO. 01S09] THE PART NO. FOR THE 2000 AND 2001 HAS BEEN REPLACED. IT WOULD BE LOGICAL TO ME IF THE PART NUMBER FOR THE 2000 EXCURSION AND THE 2001 EXCURSION ARE THE SAME THEN THEY BOTH SHOULD BE RECALLED. IN ADDITION THE PASSENGER FRONT AND SIDE DOOR DO NOT LOCK WHEN INTERNAL BUTTON IS DEPRESSED. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DO NOT SHUT OFF IF THE BACK HATCH IS OPENED AND MOISTURE IS PRESENT. I HAVE A 2001 EXCURSION AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT POPS FREE BY IT'S SELF SEVERAL TIMES DURING A COUPLE OF HOURS OF DRIVING. DEALER SAID IT WASN'T COVERED. I ALSO HAD THE WINDOWS & DOOR LOCKS STOP WORKING BACK IN 2006. IT NEEDED A NEW GEM MODULE AND SOME FUSE PANEL WORK (DUE TO A LEAK IN THE WINDSHIELD SEAL FROM THE FACTORY). WE HAVE THE EXACT PART THAT IS IN RECALL FOR SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES THAT FORD PRODUCES AND IS CAUSING FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN WE TOOK OUR EXCURSION TO A FORD DEALER THEY DEACTIVATED THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THIS WAS DONE BECAUSE WE ALSO HAVE SOME OIL LEAK IN OUR CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR WHICH WAS RECALLED AND THE TWO PROBLEM CAN CAUSE A FIRE. THE 2002 FORD EXCURSION THAT I HAVE BEEN USING FOR TRANSPORTATION HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT IN THE REAR HATCH/REAR DOOR SYSTEM , IF EITHER OF THE TWO BOTTOM DOORS IS SHUT AFTER THE TOP HATCH HAS BEEN LOWERED, THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERS AND THE ENTIRE WINDOW (POBABLY WEIGHING 50-60 LBS.) ABRUPTLY COMES CRASHING TO THE GROUND. THIS HAPPENED TO MYSELF AND TO MY FAMILY MEMBERS WITH VERY LITTLE PRESSURE BEING APPLIED IN SHUTTING THE DOOR. FIRST, THIS DESIGN DEFECT SHOULD NOT EXIST, SECOND THERE SHOULD , AT THE VERY LEAST , BE A VERY VISIBLE WARNING STICKER ON THE WINDOW OR THE DOOR ASSEMBLY TO ADVISE ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE USING IT OF THE SERIOUS POTENTIAL FOR EXTREME BODILY INJURY OR EVEN DEATH IF THIS WINDOW WERE TO FALL ON A CHILD OR ON AN EXTREMITY CAUSING SERIOUS VASCULAR DAMAGE OR EVEN AMPUTATION.THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND CORRECTION BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.

AFTER PURCHASING MY 2001 EXCURSION WITH POWER STROKE DIESEL I HAD PROBLEMS WITH A HUNTING AND SOMETIMES SURGING WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE. AFTER TWO TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND THEM STATIONING THAT THERE WAS "NO" PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING THREE DAYS LATER. LUCKILY I WASN'T IN TRAFFIC I WAS JUST GETTING READY TO PULL OUT ONTO THE ROAD. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A DIFFERENT DEALER (DUE TO LOCATION) I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAM PICK-UP SENSOR WAS BAD AND THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS. I RETURNED ABOUT TWO DAYS LATER COMPLAINING THAT THE HUNTING AND SURGING WAS STILL PRESENT. AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE APPEARED TO BE "NO" PROBLEMS. (THEY PLUGGED THE COMPUTER INTO IT AND GOT NO CODES. BUT, DID NOT DRIVE OR RUN THE VEHICLE.) NOW THREE DEALERS, LESS WARRANTY AND MONTHS LATER I'M STILL HAVING LACK OF POWER,ACCELERATION AND POOR FUEL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. BUT, STILL BEING TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. FINALLY I TOOK THE EXCURSION IN TO THE DEALER WHILE IS WAS DEMONSTRATING THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECH AGREED THAT "THIS ISN'T RIGHT". THEY REPLACED THE FUEL INJECTOR ON NUMBER 8 CYLINDER. AND THE TURBO CHARGER UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE STILL EXHIBITS LACK OF ACCELERATION ON TAKE OFF AND NOW SHUTTERING WHEN FIRST PLACED INTO REVERSE. SERVICE TECH STATES THAT IT IS THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NOW AND WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $3000. THE COST OF THE VEHICLE NEW IS $50,000 I WOULD THINK THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WOULD LAST MORE THAN 40,000 MILES?
