TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXCURSION. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V553000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL) AND WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE EXACT REPAIRS. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXCURSION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AFTER THE FAILURE AND TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,550 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,600. WAS STARTING FROM A STOP TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WHEN DRIVER HEARD A LOUD POP. THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND SOME SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DIAGNOSED. THE #3 PLUG ON THE RIGHT BANK HAS BLOWN COMPLETELY OUT AND DAMAGED THE COIL PACK. A PHONE CALL TO THE DEALER YIELDED NO HELP OTHER THAN WE CAN HAVE IT TOWED THERE TO BE REPAIRED, AS IT LIKELY NEEDS A NEW HEAD. SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND TALKING TO OTHER FORD OWNERS DEFINITELY SUGGEST THAT THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE ALUM HEADS BLOWING OUT SPARK PLUGS, AND THE #3 R PLUG SEEMS TO BE COMMON. THIS COULD CAUSE FUEL/VAPORS TO BE EXHAUSTED AND SPRAYED ON A HOT MANIFOLD AND CAUSE A FIRE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN SOME FIRES ATTRIBUTED TO THIS PROBLEM. THIS SOUND LIKE A CASE WHERE THE DEALER/FORD REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT IT IS A PROBLEM AND FIX IT FOR OWNERS. BEFORE THERE ARE SERIOUS INJURIES FROM A CRASH OR A FIRE, FORD SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO FIX THIS ISSUE. ITS UNLIKELY THAT FORD WILL ANSWER THE CALL WITHOUT PRESSURE FROM NHTSA. THERE SEEM TO BE FAR TOO MANY OF THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS 5.4L MOTOR FOR IT TO BE A COINCIDENCE.

2002 FORD TRITON 6.8L V10 ENGINE IN AN EXCURSION VEHICLE EJECTED AN ORIGINAL (UNCHANGED, FACTORY TORQUED) SPARK PLUG WITH GREAT FORCE AND DAMAGE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. COIL WAS IMMEDIATELY DAMAGED AS SPARK PLUG RICOCHETED AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FOLLOWED BY THE SMELL OF GASOLINE VAPORS AND LOUD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE COMPRESSION BEING DIRECTLY VENTED FROM THE VACATED SPARK PLUG HOLE. THE FIVE THREADS OF THE TRITON SPARK PLUG HOLE WERE DAMAGED BY THE FORCE OF THE EJECTION. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITH THE FORD ENGINE TO THE CUSTOMERS SAFETY GIVEN THIS WAS AN ORIGINAL PLUG (AT 85,000 MILES). THE WEATHER AT THE TIME OF THE SPARK PLUG EJECTION WAS -4F, AND THE SPARK PLUG EJECTED AS THE VEHICLE WAS BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STANDSTILL. FORD HAS A MAJOR AND COSTLY DEFECT WITH THEIR TRITON ENGINES THEY SOLD TO CUSTOMERS (ENGINE REPLACEMENT IS ESTIMATED AT $4000) AND THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD ENFORCE FORD TO RECALL AND REPAIR ALL SPARK PLUG HOLES IN THESE ALUMINUM ENGINES SPANNING YEARS 2000 TO 2004 GIVEN THEY ONLY USED 5 THREADS IN EACH SPARK PLUG HOLE, WHICH IS INSUFFICIENT FOR AN ALUMINUM BLOCK. HOW IS IT THAT THIS WIDELY KNOWN ISSUE IS NOT GETTING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S ATTENTION GIVEN THIS IS A DEMONSTRATED MAJOR DEFECT AND A SAFETY ISSUE (COULD HAVE HAD A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IF A SPARK FROM THE EJECTED SPARK PLUG OCCURRED). *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED, WHICH CAUSED A BUBBLE IN THE TIRE. WITHIN LESS THAN A THOUSAND MILES LATER, THE FRONT DRIVER'S TIRE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. THE RETAIL FACILITY WHERE THE TIRES WERE SOLD AND INSTALLED WAS NOT CONTACTED. ON 6/5/2013, I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT APPROX. 70MPH AND TREAD SEPARATED FROM RT. REAR TIRE CAUSING VEHICLE TO SWERVE INTO ADJACENT LANE. DAMAGE TO QUARTER PANEL AND RUNNING BOARD. THIS IS THE SECOND TIRE FAILURE IN THE PAST 45 DAYS.THE TIRES ARE BFGOODRICH 265/75R/16 COMMERCIAL TA LOAD RANGE E. THE FOUR NEW TIRES WERE INSTALLED ON 2/28/2011 AND HAVE APPROX. 14,300 MILES OF WEAR AT TIME OF FAILURE. THE OTHER TIRE (LEFT FRONT) FAILED ON 4/19/2013. I SEEM TO BE HAVING A BRAKING PROBLEM WITH MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ON A NUMBER OF INSTANCES. IT SEEM TO BE CAUSED BY THE BRAKE CALIPER SLIDE BRACKETS WHICH PREVENT THE PROPER CALIPER TRAVEL WHEN ACTIVATED. THIS WAS A COMPLAINT I HAVE ADDRESSED SINCE MY PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM GIVES THE VEHICLE AN UNEVEN BRAKE ACTIVATION, WHICH CAUSES POOR HANDLING WHILE BRAKING. THE DEALER SAY THAT IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED 2 CALIPERS, BUT EACH TIME I'M EXPECTED TO PAY FOR PADS AND ROTORS. I'M AN EX GARAGE OWNER, AND EX-NYS VEHICLE INSPECTION LICENSED MECHANIC. I HAVE ON 5-6 INSTANCES REPLACED PADS AND ROTORS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM WITH THE CALIPER SLIDE SYSTEM. EACH OF THESE TIMES, AFTER PULLING THE BRAKES APART, AND CLEANING ALL SURFACES, AND LUBING THE SLIDERS BEFORE REINSTALLING, AFTER WITCH ALL PARTS WORKED AS DESIGNED. THIS ONLY SEEM TO GET YOU TO ANOTHER 2000 TO 3000 MILES BEFORE IT IS REQUIRED AGAIN. IN MOST CASES COSTING ME ANOTHER SET OF BRAKE PADS, AND ALSO AT LEAST ONE NEW ROTOR. THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN SEVERE ON 2 OCCASIONS, WHILE 30 MILES OR MORE FROM HOME, EACH TIME, THE CALIPER STUCK, AND GROUND INTO THE ROTOR. AS I DROVE THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PAD PULLED FROM ITS PROPER LOCATION, AND FELL OUT, LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES AT ALL. THIS WAS ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO BE TOWED. I THINK THIS BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED, AND DON'T THINK A BRAKE SYSTEM SHOULD NEED TO BE ADDRESSED WITH EVERY 2000 MILES OR SO. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING ON AN UNPAVED ROAD, THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE. HE THEN RELEASED THE BRAKE AND APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES FELT LOOSE AND THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE. SHE DISCOVERED A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 82,063.

BRAKE ROTORS WARP EXCESSIVELY. JUST PURCHASED USED VEHICLE, HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED AND BRAKE SYSTEM SERVICED AFTER 5,000 MILES. VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY UPON APPLICATION OF BRAKE. FORD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES THAT INSPECTED THE BRAKE SYSTEM STATED THAT THE PADS LOOKED ALMOST NEW. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET THIS EXACT SCENARIO SEEMS TO BE PLAYING OUT WITH 2000 - 2004 EXCURSION MODELS. OTHER OWNERS CLAIM TO HAVE THE BRAKE SERVICED AND ROTORS TURNED EVERY 15000 - 25000 MILES. IT SEEMS THAT THE ROTORS ARE NOT ADEQUATE TO HANDLE THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE WITH OUT NEEDING EXCESSIVE SERVICE ON A FREQUENT BASIS. *NM

MY PROBLEM IS THE TRUCK HAS WARPED 4 SETS OF FRONT ROTORS IN 80,000 MILES. IT HAS YET TO EVEN WEAR THE REAR ROTORS. EACH TIME IT HAS WARPED THE ROTORS THE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE FIRST 2 SETS OF ROTORS WERE FROM FORD. I THEN PURCHASED HIGH PERFORMANCE SLOTTED ROTOR WITH SPECIAL PADS. THIS MADE NO DIFFERENCE TO THE WARPING PROBLEM. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER OWNERS OF EXCURSIONS AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD SAYS (DEALER & FACTORY REP) THIS IS NORMAL WEAR. MY EMPLOYMENT PUTS ME ON THE ROAD APPROXIMATELY 6 TO 8 HOURS PER DAY. I HAVE OWNED A FORD BRONCO FULL SIZE, FORD F150 FULL SIZE, DODGE RAM 2500, NISSAN, PLUS SEVERAL CARS. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THAT I HAVE EVER HAD A WARPING PROBLEM. I FEEL THE EXCURSION IS PUTTING TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE FRONT BRAKES AND/OR NOT MUCH ON THE REAR. THIS SEEMS TO MAKE THE TRUCK HARDER TO STOP IN QUICK STOPS - THUS MAY CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO INABILITY TO STOP IN TIME.

BEGINNING OF 2006, I PURCHASED MY USED 2002 FORD EXPLORER. AROUND 70,000 MILES, ABOUT 9 MONTHS LATER, THE ROARING NOISE IN THE REAR WAS UNBEARABLE. I PUT ALL NEW TIRES,I PUT ALL NEW BRAKES THINKING THIS WAS CAUSING THE NOISE. FINALLY I WENT ONLINE TO FIND THE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE REAR END NOISE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALLS, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE IT IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY SUGGESTED I HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. ON 10/20/07, I HAD THIS DIAGNOSIS DONE, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE, OR DRIVE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT COULD CEASE UP WHILE DRIVING, AND CAN BE A SAFTEY ISSUE IF UNIT FAILS. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR, PARTS AND LABOR IS ABOUT $1200. IS FORD WAITING FOR THIS TO CEASE UP, CAUSING INJURIES OR DEATHS BEFORE THEY DEEM IT A SAFTEY ISSUE, AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES FOR REPAIR. THREE WEEKS AGO THE ENGINE WOULD STALL OUT WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE OR WHEN I WAS DRIVING, I THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS, SO I FIXED IT. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I THOUIGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY, SO I FIXED IT. I WAS FRUSTRATED AND WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON OCT. 3RD, 2007 IN THE MIDDLE OF A 7 LANE HIGHWAY. I WAS SCARED AND UPSET, AND I ENDED UP TAKING IT IN AGAIN! WE FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON 2002 FORD ESCAPES WITH 3.0L V6 ENGINES FOR THE PCM ON DECELERATIONS BELOW 40 MPH BECAUSE OF FUEL-AIR MIXTURES BEING SENT TO THE ENGINE. IT WAS ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2004. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, MY DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM, AND ANOTHER DEALER CLOSE TO ME; THEY ALL SAID THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY ESCAPE. I LOOKED IT UP MYSELF AND THEY WERE CORRECT, BUT IF THIS RECALL WAS ALREADY FIXED THEN IT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT FIXED CORRECTLY BECAUSE THE EXACT DEFINIATION OF THE RECALL IS WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY ESCAPE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I THINK FORD NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE MY EXCEPTION AND KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT BECAUSE THE ENGINE NEEDS TO "RE-PROGRAM" ITSELF FOR A FEW WEEKS. IT IS A RECALL AND I THINK IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED FOR FREE, LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. PULLED 2002 FORD EXPLORER INTO COVERED SPACE AT APARTMENT COMPLEX AND PROCEEDED TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUT THE CAR INTO THE PARK THE GEAR SHIFT BROKE OFF FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS NOT USED AND NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS DID I EVER IMAGINE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE ON A CAR. LATER I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2002 FORD EXPLORER. I CAN'T START THE CAR SINCE IT IS NOT IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET THE REPLACEMENT PART IS BACK ORDERED UNTIL MID NOVEMBER. SO, FORD IS OK WITH HAVING A PRODUCT ON THE ROAD THAT I CANNOT DRIVE FOR 1.5 MONTHS BECAUSE OF A BAD PART? IT APPEARS THE BAD PART IS MADE OF ALUMINUM WHICH IS SHOCKING. 2002 FORD WINDSTAR REAR AXLE PROBLEM WE WERE DRIVING ON 78E AND WERE APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES BEFORE ALLENTOWN. ALL OF A SUDDEN WE HEARD A CRACK, SMELLED SMOKE, AND HEARD METAL SCRAPING. THE CAR STARTED FISHTAILING AND MY HUSBAND VIRTUALLY HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AS THE WINDSTAR REPEATEDLY CROSSED 2 LANES AND ALMOST HIT THE MIDDLE BARRIER AND THEN FISHTAILED TOWARD THE OTHER SIDE. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS OR TRUCKS IN FRONT OR IN BACK OF US AND WE WERE AT A SLIGHT UPHILL. FINALLY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VAN AND PULL OVER TO THE SMALL SHOULDER WHICH WAS BARELY BIG ENOUGH TO FIT THE VAN. WE CALLED 911 AND AAA. WHILE WE WAITED ON THE SIDE, WE FEARED THAT WE COULD GET HIT IN THE EVENT THAT A TRUCK OR CAR SWERVED TO THE SIDE. WE WERE SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED AND THE REAR TIRES WERE CAVED IN. MY AUTO DEALER GILBOY IN WHITEHALL OFFERED TO TOW AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM, BUT ONLY AT MY EXPENSE. FORD EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE WAS NO COVERAGE FOR THIS SITUATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND THERE CURRENTLY IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. BOTH GILBOY AND FORD TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE REAR AXLE. I HAD 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR, 2 OF WHICH WERE MY OWN. THIS WAS THE SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE AS I FEARED WHAT POTENTIALLY COULD HAPPEN. LUCKILY, SOMEONE FROM ABOVE WAS LOOKING AFTER US BUT I FEAR THE NEXT FORD WINDSTAR OWNER MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. KEPT HAVING TO REPLACE FUSE #45 ON MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION LIMITED DIESEL 4X4. AFTER PUTTING INTO ANY GEAR, GO TO GIVE IT FUEL IT WOULD NT DO ANYTHING. RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS OTHERS WITH FORD TRUCK 1999-2003 HAVING SAME PROBLEM AND READ WHAT THEY DID TO FIX IT. APPARENTLY IN THE GEAR SHIFT, THERE ARE 3 VERY SHORT WIRES THAT WERE FRAYING DUE TO BE PINCHED. SO SINCE IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY WE HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING BOX COVER REMOVED AND THERE IT WAS, THE WIRES WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY FRAYED. THEY WERE FIXED AND ANOTHER FUSE WAS INSTALLED ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND SPENT $600 ON A NEW FUSE BOX SINCE THE ORIGINAL ONE WAS FRIED DUE TO THE FRAYED WIRES. I DRIVE 60 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK EVERYDAY AND HAVE 2 LITTLE GIRLS AND THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE AND BELIEVE ME, FORD WOULD HAVE BEEN IN BIG TROUBLE. SO IF OTHERS ARE HAVING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL. IT HAS BEEN NOTED ON THE INTERNET IN VARIOUS PUBLIC FORUMS. IN JUNE OF 2003, A 2002 FORD EXCURSION LIMO SUFFERED A FIRE LOSS UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING OR POWER SWITCHES ON. IT HAD NOT BEEN USED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. WHILE AN EMPLOYEE WAS IN THE PASSENGER AREA CLEANING THE LIMO, HE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE FIRE ORIGINATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. DAMAGE TO WIRING AND OTHER COMBUSTIBLES WAS EXTENSIVE. NO CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DETERMINED. AFTER HEARING OF THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH RECALL, I BELIEVE THE CASUSE OF THIS FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN THE SWITCH MALFUNCTION. I KNOW THE EXCUSIONS HAVE NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, HOWEVER, SINCE THEY HAVE THE SAME SWITCH AND OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE CAUSE WAS A SWITCH FAILURE. MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION HAD A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE RESULTING IN A NEAR FATAL SITUATION. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE PLASTIC WHEEL WELL LINER ON THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL WAS POSITIONED AGAINST THE METAL BRAKE LINE FROM THE ABS PUMP AND FROM THE VEHICLE MOTION THE LINER HAD WORN A HOLE IN THE METAL LINE CAUSING TOTAL FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I PURCHASED A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR 4 DOOR VAN, AND UPON IMPACT OF CRASHMY FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS IMPACT WAS AT 50-55MPH. I WAS TOLD THE REASON MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WAS DUE TO MY SEATBELT LOCK WHICH BROKE FROM THE IMPACT. WE RECIEVED A RECALL NOTICE ON TWO OF OUR FORD EXPLORERS. IT WAS CONCERNING THE GLASS IN THE LIFT GATE. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE GLASS COULD FALL OUT AND INJURE THE PERSON OPENNING THE WINDOW. WE HAD THE RECALL DONE ON TWO OF OUR VEHICLES. ABOUT 90 DAYS AFTER WE HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED THE GLASS DID FALL OUT ON ONE OF OUR DETECTIVES. WE HAD THE WINDOW FIXED AND FORD CHARGED US 1029.67 FOR THE REPAIR. OUR CONCERN IS TWO FOLD. OBVIOUSLY THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM STILL PERSIST AND THE SAFTY ISSUE IS A FACTOR. ON PERFORMANCE OF FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT, TECHNICIAN DIRECTED MY ATTENTION TO WHAT APPEARED TO BE SMALL PIECES OF METAL TRAPPED IN AND ON TOP OF FILTER ELEMENT. MECHANIC SAID THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH METAL THE RESULT OF DELAMINATION OF THE INNER LINING OF THE FUEL TANK IN FORD DIESELS. INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALS MANY MANY COMPLAINTS TO BOTH FORD AND NHTSA OVER THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER OBSERVED THE FUEL LEAK WHILE PERFORMING AN ADDITIONAL RECALL REPAIR AND REFUSED TO ADDRESS OR REPAIR THE FUEL LEAK UNLESS THE CONTACT PAID $200 FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FUEL LEAK WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THERE WAS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

I HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES, BOTH BACK DOOR WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN OFF TRACK AND WON'T STAY UP. THIS HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 07 AND A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SECOND REAR WINDOW DID THE SAME. I HAVE TO USE CLEAR PACKAGING TAPE TO HOLD THEM UP. THE KEY TO THE IGNITION WILL NOT TURN UNLESS I USE SOMETHING WITH A HARD END AND TAP IT SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN THE IGNITION PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006 I CALLED FORD ROAD SIDE SERVICE AND THEY RECOMMENDED TAPPING THE KEY SEVERAL TIMES AND SAID THEY HAD A GROWING COMPLAINT OF THIS. MY TRUNK LOCK LATCH OFTEN GETS STUCK TOO. JAN OF 2003 THE RADIO SHORTS IN AND OUT, I NEVER KNOW IF IT'S GOING TO STAY ON. CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. ICON ON DASH JUST FLASHED WHEN" SET "WAS DEPRESSED. I TRIED ALL CRUISE SWITCHES TO VERIFY IF IT WAS A STUCK SWITCH. PRESSING CRUISE" ON "AND "COAST" SWITCHES ON STEERING WHEEL CAUSES HORN TO SOUND. DEALER SAID THE BRAKE SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE DUE TO A MISSING GROUND BUSS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXCURSION. WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING AND CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER WHO REPLACED THE THROTTLE CABLE. THE FAILURE HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE THE REPLACEMENT WAS MADE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 95,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,300. CONSUMER STATES AFTER TESTING THE SHOULDER HARNESSES, THE FRONT HARNESS CAME OUT OF THE WALL WHILE INSTALLING STRESS TEST EQUIPMENT WITH ONLY THE TENSION TAKEN OUT OF THE CHAIN, THERE WAS NEVER A PULL APPLIED TO THE HARNESS, THE CENTER HARNESS HAD PREVIOUSLY CAME OUT OF THE VAN AND THE BRACKET HOLDING THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY PULLED OUT OF THE WALL, CONSUMER FOUND THAT THE UNIT WAS ATTACHED WITH AN ALUMINUM ANCHOR AND ONLY THROUGH THE FIBERGLASS WALL OF THE VAN, THAT IS WHY THE TESTS WERE BEING COMPILED.
