TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXCURSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER SPARKED A FIRE AND THE WIRING OF THE SHIFTER BEGAN TO MELT. THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN SMOKE SHORTLY AFTER THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WIRING INSULATION OF THE LEVER HAD WORN AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. AS A RESULT, THE GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SILVER CIRCUIT BOX INSIDE OF THE FUSE BOX MELTED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, ALL THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE ALTERNATOR FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE FUSE BOX WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HIM THAT THE FUSE BOX WAS DISCONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED SHORTLY AFTER. IN ORDER TO REMEDY THE FAILURE, A MODIFICATION HAD TO BE MADE TO BYPASS THE MELTING CURRENT BY PLACING AN EXTERNAL WIRE AND CIRCUIT BREAKER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

AT TOP OF A HILL I STOPPED COMPLETELY AND SHIFTED TO LOW GEAR, THE WIRES IN GEAR SHIFT KNOB SPARKED LOUDLY AND BEGAN BURNING. STOPPED CAR IMMEDIATELY, OPENED HOOD AND DISCONNECTED BATTERY. OVERDRIVE INDICATOR LIGHT HARNESS IS A SHODDY DESIGN. WIRE INSULATION WEARS THROUGH WHILE RUBBING WITH GEAR SHIFTER SELECTION. THERE IS NO ARMORING OR OTHER COVERING FOR THE THIN FLIMSY HARNESS WIRES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXCURSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL SPORADICALLY AND WOULD ALSO ACCELERATE ABNORMALLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE INJECTION CONTROL PRESSURE SENSOR. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE 2003 MODEL EXCURSION SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BECAUSE THE 2004 MODEL WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V270000: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 183,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 184,000.

2003 FORD EXCURSION WILL SPORADICALLY NOT START. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT WILL CRANK BUT WILL NOT FIRE. IT WILL NOT START WITH A JUMP START. TYPICALLY, AFTER SEVERAL TRIES THE BATTERY WILL DRAIN. AT THAT POINT IT WILL START WITH A JUMP START. IT ALSO USUALLY STARTS AFTER IT SITS FOR AT LEAST 1 DAY. THIS SPORADIC INCIDENT HAS BEEN OCCURRING OVER 6 MONTHS. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED 4 TIMES BY A TRUSTED AND CAPABLE AUTO SERVICE CENTER. THEY HAVE RUN COMPREHENSIVE DIAGNOSTICS, REVIEWED EVERY POSSIBLE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEMS, HAVE RESEARCHED EVERY POSSIBLE ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND NOTHING. OTHERWISE THE VEHICLE RUNS WELL - WHEN IT STARTS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXCURSION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON A WET ROAD AND SUDDENLY, EXCESSIVE WHITE SMOKE EXPELLED FROM THE REAR TAIL PIPE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A BROKEN FUEL INJECTOR WHICH ALSO RESULTED IN DAMAGES TO THE ENGINE. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST WAS $12,000. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,000. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND I LOST STEERING CONTROL. LUCKILY NO OTHER CARS WERE APPROACHING BECAUSE I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ON TO A BUSY STREET. VERY DANGEROUS. THE STALL HAS ALSO OCCURRED AT LEAST 5 OTHER TIMES, USUALLY WHEN DECELERATING WHEN COMING TO A STOP LIGHT. TODAY, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON, THEN I HEARD A CLICK AND ALL THE GAUGES LOST POWER, THE RADIO DISPLAY WENT OUT. I COULD NOT RESTART THE VEHICLE - ONLY HEARD A CLICK SOUND. AFTER WAITING AN HOUR, THE VEHICLE STARTED. BATTERIES HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED BY DEALERSHIP A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. IT WAS IN THE SHOP BECAUSE UNDER AGGRESSIVE ACCELERATION, THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THERE WAS NO POWER. SENSOR REPLACED ALONG WITH BATTERIES. SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT ON 2003 FORD EXCURSION LIMITED V-10 GAS ENGINE. THIS WAS SPARK PLUG ON DRIVER'S SIDE, REAR OF ENGINE, CLOSEST TO DASHBOARD. PULLED HEAD AND FOUND THREE OF THE REMAINING FOUR THREADS TO BE WORN. CONSIDERED SAME ISSUE COULD BE PRESENT ON OTHER SIDE OF ENGINE, SO REPLACED ENGINE. ENGINE HAD APPROX. 106K MILES. My wife, two young daughters, and I were traveling out of town for the New Year. As we were traveling southbound on I-85 between Greensboro, North Carolina and Thomasville, North Carolina, I started to notice that the vehicle was starting to vibrate. Over the course of the next +\- 10 miles the vibration became much worse and eventually forced me to get off of the highway. I exited the highway at exit 103 on I-85 southbound (NC-109) and was able to get the vehicle to a National Tire and Battery Shop located at 2 Cloniger Dr, Thomasville, NC 27360. Upon inspection, they noticed a large bulge in the driver side rear tire and told me that they thought that I might have broken a belt inside of the tire. They were able to get it off and put on the full size spare, thus allowing us to get to our destination. I strongly believe that had I not exited the highway when I did, there was a high likelyhood that the tire could have blown thus causing us to crash. With that said, this failure put my entire family at risk. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The tire has only been inspected by the National Tire and Battery that took it off and replaced it with the full size spare. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The problem started they day of the incident as we were traveling southbound on I-85 between Greensboro, North Carolina and Thomasville, North Carolina. Tire Size - LT 265/75 R 16

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TREAD SEPARATED ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXCURSION WITH COPPER REPLACEMENT TIRES, MODEL DISCOVERY HT 265/70R/16. WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE CASING FRACTURED FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. ONE YEAR LATER, THE EXACT SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS FLIPPED ONCE, PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A TREE AND THEN LANDED UPRIGHT. ONE PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REQUESTED TO FURTHER INSPECT THE TIRES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXCURSION. THE VEHICLE HAS MICHELIN LTX M/S TIRES, SIZE 265/75/R16. WHEN THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE TIRES WERE FIRESTONE TIRES. THEY WERE NOT THE CORRECT TIRES HE ORIGINALLY ORDERED. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE INCORRECT TIRES AND WAS GIVEN BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT TIRES, WHICH WHERE MICHELIN CLASS C'S. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. HE NOTICED THAT THE WALLS ON THE TIRES WERE CRACKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT DUE TO THE THICKNESS OF THE THREADS, THE TIRES WOULD WOBBLE. ONCE THE THREADING BEGAN TO WEAR, THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP WOBBLING. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND INSPECTED BY A TECHNICIAN, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE INCORRECT GRADE FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THE TIRES SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CLASS E (LOAD RANGE 5,250) INSTEAD OF A CLASS C (LOAD RANGE 2,270). THE TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH MICHELIN CLASS E TIRES AT THE COST OF $907.45. THE CONTACT CALLED THE FORD MANUFACTURER AND FILED A REPORT. HE CALLED BACK TO FOLLOW UP WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED AND WAS NOT GIVEN AN EXPLANATION. THE DOT INFORMATION WAS UNAVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SEPARATED. THE 6.8 AND 5.4 ENGINES HAVE BEEN FAILING DUE TO DEFECTIVE VALVE TRAIN CAM FOLLOWERS. I AM HAVING THE 3RD ENGINE INSTALLED IN MY EXCURSION. THE CAM FOLLOWERS ARE FAILING AND SPITTING THEM OUT CAUSING CATSTROPIC ENGINE FAILURE. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH ANTHONY BARIANA WHO WORKS FOR HOLMAN DISTRIBUTION IN NEW JERSEY @ 1-800-521-1223 EXT 305 AND HE CONFIRMED THAT THE 6.8 AND 5.4 ENGINES HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS MY TRUCK AT AN ABNORMALLY HIGH RATE. MT TRUCK IS CURRENTLY AT MATTHEWS PAOLI FORD 610-644-4700 AND THE GENERAL MANAGER BRYAN LIPPINCOTT TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE REPLACED 6 STATE FARM TRUCK ENGINES IN 2.00 MONTHS 6.8 LITER SAME AS MINE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. FORD HAS DONE NOTHING FROM WHAT I SEE DOING SOME RESEARCH BUT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND MADE NO ATTEMPT TO FIND THE ROOT CAUSE AND HAVE A FIX SO THIS WILL STOP COSTING CONSUMERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. I WAS DRIVING ON MY STREET AND WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE STARTED TO SHAKE SO I SHUT IT OFF AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER MATTHEWS FORD LOCATED IN PAOLI PA.

THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT COME ON AND OFF AND MY TRUCK LOSES POWER AND IF YOU AT A STOP LIGHT THE TRUCK WILL CUT OFF. WHEN I TAKE TO THE SHOP THEY THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING BAD BUT IT MAY BE ABLE TO BE ON A RECALL.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE FROM THE PARK POSITION. IN ORDER SHIFT INTO REVERSE HE HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND ALLOW IT TO SLOWLY ROLL BACKWARDS. UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE HE ALSO NOTICED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 6TH GEAR. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000.

THE VEHICLE HAS A STEERING ISSUE. IT WILL PULL TO THE RIGHT MOSTLY BUT OCCASIONALLY TO THE LEFT. SO YOU SPEND THE ENTIRE DRIVE CORRECTING THE WHEEL TO TRY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN THE ROAD. 2003 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER: WHEN EXECUTING LOW SPEED TURNS IN EITHER DIRECTION, THERE IS A FEELING THAT THE TIRES ARE RUBBING THE INSIDES OF THE WHEEL WELLS. THERE IS A BINDING OR GRINDING FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND NOISE OF SUCH CAN BE HEARD MOST OF THE TIME. AS I HAVE SEEN ON PREVIOUS REPORTS, THERE IS ALSO THE SAME CHATTER AND SHUDDER AND VIBRATIONS ALSO. WE TOOK IT IN TO SERVICE DEPT AND AFTER 2 DAYS THEY REPORT THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND NOR REPRODUCE WHAT WE WERE STATING. AFTER A TECHNICIAN TOOK A TEST DRIVE WITH MY HUSBAND, THE TECHNICIAN DID NOTICE A HUMMING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HE SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE REAR HUMMING AND THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE REAR END. (ALL OF THIS OCCURRING AT 29,000 MILES. AFTER THE REAR END WAS REPLACED, THE ABOVE MENTIONED CHATTER, SHUDDER, BINDING, GRINDING AND VIBRATIONS WERE GONE. HOWEVER...NOW AT 31,000 MILES THEY ARE ALL BACK AND PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. WHEN MOVING A SLOW SPEED (10MPH TO 15MPH) A SMALL SUDDEN TAP OF THE BREAKS AND THE BRAKE SOMETIMES WILL GO DOWN FARTHER THAN MY FOOT. ALMOST AS IF WHEN TAPPED THE BREAK KEEPS GOING DOWN WHEN MY FOOT IS GOING UP. THIS HAS HAPPEN 2 TIMES TO DATE. WHEN IT HAPPENS THE TRUCK ALMOST FEELS AS THOUGH I AM SLAMMING THE BREAKS TO THE FLOOR AND ALL PEOPLE INSIDE ARE SLUNG FOWARD. WHEN I AM JUST TRYING TO SLOW CAUSE OF A CAR IN FRONT HAS SLOWED. MY 2003 FORD FOCUS ZX3 WAS TAKEN IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ITS 20,000 MILE SERVICE AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. I DISCUSSED THE ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SINCE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, HAD THE WORK DONE AND THEN CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE OBVIOUSLY FAULTY BRAKE ROTORS AND FORD DOES NOT CARE HOW OR IF ITS DEALERS HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. AS A SIDE NOTE, THERE WERE TWO MINOR BODYWORK ISSUES THAT THE SAME DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX UNDER WARRANTY, WHICH WE TAKEN CARE OF BY ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Excursion. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the suspension made an abnormal popping sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that an air bubble had formed on the front passenger’s side tire which he linked to the suspension failure. The tire was not replaced. The contact also stated that after he replaced the radio inside the vehicle, the radio had become defective after the second day of installation. The contact stated that an abnormal buzzing sound was coming from the speakers. Upon investigation, he linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V327000 (Electrical System). Additionally, the contact also mentioned that the vehicle would stall while at a complete stop without warning. The contact had a friend inspect the vehicle and he informed him that the camshaft needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 07V553000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). A dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXCURSION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER DUE TO A RATTLING NOISE IN THE FRONT END. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. HE WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SEVENTEEN THOUSAND MILES AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED AND IT FAILED BECAUSE OF THE BALL JOINTS. I HAD TWO NEW FRONT COIL SPRINGS PUT ON (I WASN'T TAKING ANY CHANCES WITH THE OTHER SPRING), A NEW SWAY BAR, A NEW STRUT MOUNT AND BEARING PUT ON AT A COST OF $444.64. FRONT SEAT BELTS ARE CUTTING INTO THE PILAR MOLDING. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE MOLDING HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE IN TWO YEARS. FORD STATES THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING INTO OTHER FORD EXPLORERS IN PARKING LOTS AND SEE THAT IT IS HAPPENING IN MOST OF THE VEHICLES. ON FEBRUARY 2007 I WAS DRIVING THE EXPEDITION IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFICWHEN I NOTICED THAT CAR BEGAN TO FEEL VERY HEAVY. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS GOING DOWN DESPITE FACT THAT I WAS PRESSING DOWN THE GAS PEDAL, AND SUDDENLY ALL OF THE ENGINE LIGHTS TURNED ON. DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 91 IN MASS. MY 2003 FORD EXPEDITION BLEW OUT A SPARK PLUG. THIS WAS A FACTORY INSTALLED ORIGINAL PLUG . THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.4 TRITON ENGINE WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM. WE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIRS. RE-THREADING THE ENGINE HEAD, REPLACE THE DAMAGED COIL PACK AND A NEW SPARK PLUG. WITH LABOR MY BILL WAS OVER $700. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE TOW FEE AND A NIGHT AT A LOCAL HOTEL (WE WERE TRAVELING FROM OUT OF STATE ON VACATION). UPON RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I HAVE READ DOZENS AND DOZENS OF STORIES LIKE MINE INVOLVING THIS TRITON CLASS ENGINE BUILT BY FORD. A SPARK PLUG SHOULD NOT BE BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK PERIOD. 2003 FORD EXCURSION LIMITED WITH 6.0L DIESEL ENGINE. ONLY TWO WEEKS AGO, MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SURGE IN ACCELERATION AT BOTH IDLE AND WHILE CRUISING. IT HAS ALSO BEGUN TO STALL OUT AT BOTH IDLE AND WHILE CRUISING. ALSO THE VEHICLE HAS BEGUN TO HAVE A STRONG SMELL OF DIESEL FUEL WHICH ENTERS THE PASSENGER CABIN AT START UP. MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEGUN TO LIGHT UP AND I CHECKED THE LIGHT WITH A DIGITAL DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER. THE CODE WAS P2285 (INJECTOR CONTROL PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW). THE SITUATION IS QUITE DANGEROUS. MY WIFE HAD COMPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE SURGED AHEAD AND SHE ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I DROVE THE VEHICLE, IT ALSO BEGAN TO BUCK AND SURGE IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE. WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED REARWARD AND ONLY BY MY HAVING MY FOOT NEAR THE BRAKE PEDAL, STOPPED IT FROM RACING REARWARD. MY 2003 EXCURSION HAD A MAJOR TURBO FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING ON I-10 ON 12-26-03. MY FAMILY AND MYSELF WERE TRAVELING TO HOUSTON. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD A TOTAL OF 1,049 LIFE TO DATE MILES. WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE FOR ABOUT 30 TO 45 MINUTES WE HEAR A LARGER POP NOISE AND A LARGE DROP IN THE ENGINE POWER. I ONLY HAD A FLASH OF A DASH LIGHT AND IT WENT RIGHT BACK OFF. I WAS TRYING TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE. WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 TO 35 MPH TRYING TO GET TO THE NEXT EXIT. NOTICE LARGE VOLUME OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER ASAP AFTER SEEING THIS. THE SMOKE CAME INTO THE CAB FROM THE VENTILATION SYSTEM (A/C). PULLED MY DAUGHTER FROM THE VEHICLE, ALSO HAD MY WIFE GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT RELEASED THE HOOD LOCK, CHECKING THE HEAT ON THE HOOD FIRST. RAISED THE HOOD FOUND FIRE COMING FROM EXHAUST PIPE FROM THE TURBO. JUST SMOTHER THE FIRE OUT TO ENSURE IT WOULD NOT SPREAD. SAW THE OIL AROUND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM THROUGH OUT THE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS A 6.0 DIESEL ENGINE AND IS A 4X4 EXCURSION. IM FILING THIS REPORT FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS NOT FOR MYSELF. MY CONCERN IS FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT EXPOSED TO THIS TYPE OF CONDITION WHICH CAN HAPPEN WITH A DIESEL ENGINE. IM A VEHICLE SUPERINTENDENT OF A LARGE CITY TRANSIT SYSTEM. AND HAVE SEEN FIRES FROM A TURBO FAILURES. 6.0 DIESEL IS A INTERNATIONAL PRODUCT, AND THE SERIES 40 ENGINES ARE PRONE FOR THIS TYPE OF FAILURES. THIS MAY BE THE ONLY FAILURE THAT IS REPORTED FOR THE 2003 6.0 DIESEL. BUT WITH ONLY 1,049 MILES THIS FAILURE SHOULD HAVE NOT OCCURRED. THE 2003 FORD EXCURSION 6.0 LITER DIESEL, FIRST BROKE DOWN WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALER WHO WAS WORKING ON RECALL ITEMS. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 2 MILES FROM THE DEALER (DEALER NOW OUT OF BUSINESS). AFTER A WHILE THE VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING POWER, BUT NOT STALLING WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY UP HILLS. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO CLEAN PARTS, EGR VALVE ETC, IT WAS STATED THAT THE INJECTORS WERE BAD. ALL INJECTORS REPLACED. FRONT MAIN LEAF SPRING BROKE ON THE VEHICLE, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED - THE SPRING WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, -THE REPAIR FACILITY STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN HISTORICALLY UNDERSIZED, AND THEY STOPPED MAKING THE ORIGINAL SPRING, BECAUSE TOO MANY WERE BREAKING. WE THEN AGAIN STARTED EXPERIENCING A LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING - AT THIS TIME MY KIDS WERE DRIVING THE CAR, AND THIS WAS PARTICULARLY WORRISOME. MY REPAIR SHOP SENT THE VEHICLE TO A HEAVY TRUCK AND DIESEL REPAIR SHOP, SPECIALIZING IN AMBULANCES. AFTER CHARGING ME $3000 TO FIX MY PROBLEMS (VARIOUS PIECES AN PART RELATED TO THE ENGINE, FUEL SYSTEM, ETC), THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO OPERATE WELL. WHILE UP IN CLEVELAND FOR THANKSGIVING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER ON THE HIGHWAY - . HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER, AND RENT A REPLACEMENT DURING OUR VACATION. THE DEALER SAID MORE OF THE FUEL/ENGINE ISSUES AND AFTER CHARGING ME ANOTHER $1500, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. LESS THAN ONE MONTH LATER, SAME STALLING ISSUES. THE VEHICLE WOULD SIMPLY STALL, AT LOW SPEED, HIGH SPEED, UNDER LOAD, OR NO LOAD - TOWED AGAIN TO MY REPAIR PERSON, AND HE SENT IT TO A DIFFERENT DIESEL MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT DIESEL IS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE, THE INJECTORS AGAIN NEED TO BE REPLACED, THAT IT HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED PROPERLY, AND THAT THIS ENGINE IS NOTORIOUS FOR HAVING VERY SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM. I AM OUT OF A VEHICLE, DOWN TO ONE FOR THE FAMILY, AND UNABLE TO AFFORD GETTING IT FIXED - AGAIN. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXCURSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST ITS POWER STEERING AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED TWICE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY, THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE HYDRO BOOST FAILED WHILE THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED. THIS FORCED THE MASTER CYLINDER INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT YET BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT IS AN AFC CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN AND REPLACED THE COMPONENTS HIMSELF. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

2003 EXCURSION LIMITED ONE ONE OCCASION BRAKE PEDAL WAS STUCK TO FLOOR WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT, BUT THE BRAKES WERE DISENGAGED SO THE VEHICLE WAS ROLLING. WE HAD TO PRESS THE PEDAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE PEDAL RELEASED FROM THE FLOOR. VEHICLE HAS A THUMPING SOUND IN THE DRIVE TRAIN WHEN STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND DURING ACCELERATION. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN 3-4 TIMES FOR SECOND PROBLEM AND ONCE FOR THE FIRST LISTED PROBLEM AND DEALER COMPLAINS THAT THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH EITHER PROBLEMS. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND AFTER A HALF HOUR ON THE PHONE THEY SAID ALL THEY CAN OFFER IS FOR ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK IN TO THE DEALER. EACH TIME WE TAKE IT IN WE HAVE TO RENT A VEHICLE UNTIL THEY ARE DONE WORKING ON IT. I HAVE OWNED A FORD FOR 13 YEARS AND AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY THEY'VE HANDLED THIS SITUATION. I HAVE AN EDDIE BAUER EDITION EXPEDITION (2003) . THIS UNIT CAME WITH OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS THAT TILT DOWN AND INWARD WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO ASSIST YOU IN BACKING UP. THE ISSUE I HAVE HAD SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW IS THAT THE MIRRORS DO NOT RETURN TO THIER ORIGINAL POSITION CONSISTENTLY ONCE YOU PUT THE VENICLE BACK INTO A FORWARD GEAR. THIS ISSUE BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE ONCE OUT ON THE ROADWAYS AS WHEN I GO TO PASS I CAN'T SEE IF THERE ARE ANY VECHICLES IN THE LANE I NEED TO GET INTO. HAROLD ZEIGLER AUTO GROUP SOLD ME THE CAR IN KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN. THEY HAVE TOLD ME THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE MIRRORS AND HAVE DONE SO MORE THAN ONCE. CAN YOU HELP GET THIS RESOLVED. THE DRIVERS SEAT ALSO DOESN'T RETURN TO ITS PROGRAMED POSITION AND THIS IS AN IMTERMITTEN PROBLEM WHICH ZEIGLER HAD FIXED ONCE AND ITS STARTING TO ACT UP AGAIN! I PURCHASED THE 2003 EXPLORER IN NOV 2003. ON 6/16/04, 8/17/04,AND FINALLY ON 8/20/04, I COMPLAINED REGARDING THE FUEL GUAGE NOT REGISTERING A FULL TANK. FORD FINALLY REPLACED FUEL TANK. ON DEC 10, 2004, I BROUGHT THE CAR IN BECAUSE WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO REVERSE, A WHINING AND CLUNKING NOICE COULD BE HEARD. ALSO, BECAUSE SOMETIMES THE CAR DOESN'T START. AT FIRST FORD CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG REGARDING THE CLUNKING. I THEN REMINDED THEM ABOUT THE RECALLS BEING DISCUSSED IN THE NEWS REGARDING THE 2004 MODELS. THEN THEY REPLACED SOMETHING CALLED A SOLEONID. THE START PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND SO DOES THE CLUNKING NOISE. THIS WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. YESTERDAY, IT ACCELLERATED WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BREAK, FORM REVERSE TO DRIVE. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. MY HUSBAND, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, HAS EXPERIENCED THIS SEVERAL TIMES AS HE IS CHANGING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THE NEWS JUST DESCRIBED ANOTHER FORD PROBLEM REGARDING ACCELLERATION. I THINK THIS IS WHAT IS AFFECTING MY CAR.

THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR ASOLUTELY NO REASON WHATSOEVER. WE WERE JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, AND THERE WAS A LOAD POP. I THOUGHT WE HAD A BLOWOUT UNTIL I SAW MY WIFE SITTING IN THE SEAT IN PAIN. FOR A WHILE SHE COULDN'T EVEN MOVE THE RIGHT SIDE OF HER BODY. WE HEADED HOME IMMEDIATELY, BY THE TIME WE MADE IT HOME SHE WAS ABLE TO MOVE AGAIN. BEING A SATURDAY THERE WASN'T ANYONE TO CALL. I WILL BE CALLING FORD FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING.

MY HUSBAND AND I ARE LEASING A 2003 FORD EXPIDITION OF WHICH WE RECEIVED ON 5/5/03. AS OF 10/04 THIS SUV HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, (SENSORS BURN OUT). ALSO IN 10/04 THE FRONT END BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THE AGAIN ON 2/05, THE FRONT END BRAKES BACK BRAKES AND ALSO FRONT END ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THIS SUV SHOULD IN NO WAY NEED NEW BRAKES THIS SOON AND DEFINITLEY NOT ROTORS. THIS SUV ONLY HAVE 35,000 MILES AS OF 5/19/05. BUT WHEN THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED IT ONLY HAD 31,000 MILES. I WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE I HAVE SPOKEN TO NUMEROUS OF EXPIDITION OWNERS AND THEY ALL ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. I WOULD LIKE TO BE RE-INBURSED FOR THEY MONEY WE HAVE SPENT THUS FAR FOR AN ON GOING DEFECT. PASSENGER-FRONT TIRE RECEIVED AN IMPACT IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS HIT WAS A "SIDE-CRASH" WHERE ONLY THE TIRE AND A SMALL AREA OF THE OUTSIDE FRAMING ABOVE THE WHEEL WERE DAMAGED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE TRUCK SPARKED AND IGNITED ON IMPACT. THE TRUCK WAS IN FULL FLAMES IN THE TIRE AND ENGINE AREA WITHIN 9-11 MINUTES. THE FIRE BURNED OUT THE CENTER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD, THE ENTIRE ENGINE AREA, THE DASHBOARD/GLOVE COMPARTMENT, AND THE TIRE AREA WITHIN THAT TIME FRAME. OUR VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THREE DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS FOR THE SAME REPAIR. THE VEHICLE DEVELOPS A MISS. IT WILL SHOW UP WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT ANY SPEED UNDER VERY LIGHT ACCELERATION. THE ONLY THING CONSISTENT THAT WAS SAID BY ALL THE DEALERS IS THAT MANY 6.0L ENGINES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, THAT FORD WAS DEVELOPING A REPAIR PLAN, THAT THE ENGINE WAS SOOTING UP A SENSOR, AND THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO STOP THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO REVERSE IT DOES NOT WANT TO MOVE. IF YOU INCREASE THE RPM'S, IT STILL JUST SETS THERE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN VERY INCONSISTENT. REVERSE SEEMS TO BE AT THIS POINT, THE ONLY PLACE IT OCCURS. IN ONE OF THE ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM, THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT 3 OF THE 4 CALIPERS WERE FROZE/DRIED UP. THIS DOES NOT SET WELL WITH ME AND I SEE IT AS A POSSIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *NLM
