WHEN WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IT HAD 22 INCH CHROME WHEELS AND TIRES. IT ALSO WANDERED ALL OVER THE ROAD. WE BOUGHT NEW STOCK SIZED RIMS AND NEW STOCK SIZED TIRES. IT STILL WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD. WE HAD IT ALIGNED. IT STILL WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD. GOOGLE SHOWS MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THESE VEHICLES' SUSPENSION, BLAMING RUSTING REAR LOWER TRAILING ARMS AND IN ONE CASE A LEFT STABILIZER LINK BROKE. I HAVE NOT CRAWLED UNDER THE CAR AS IT IS MY SISTER'S AND SHE LIVES A WAYS AWAY, BUT SHE WANTS TO SELL IT AND IS WORRIED IF IT IS SOMETHING MAJOR SOMEONE MAY GET HURT. WE CAN BE DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD FROM 25MPH TO 60MPH AND THE VEHICLE JUST SORT OF FEELS LIKE THE BACK END IS NOT IN LINE WITH THE FRONT OR SOMETHING AND IT JUST TRIES TO CHANGE LANES ON ITS OWN.

I GOT IN MY 1997 EXPEDITION AND THE BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN HAVING THE BACK BRAKES INSTALLED THE MECHANICS NOTICED THE LOWER ON TROLL ARM WAS RUSTED OUT. HE THE LOOKED AT MY 1998 AND IT IS THE SAME WAY. HE SAID I CANNOT DRIVE THEM LIKE THIS. I DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE DAILY.

THE REAR LOWER AND UPPER CONTROL ARMS HAVE RUST HOLES AND OR COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY BIG PROBLEM WITH ALL EXPEDITIONS AROUND THE SAME YEARS. COMPLAINTS FROM HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OWNERS ON FORUMS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. THIS WILL CAUSE A CRASH AND OR FATALITIES IF NOT CORRECTED OR FOUND BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. I FOUND MINE TO BE VERY RUSTY WITH HOLES AND ALSO ONE RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH AFTER A 400 MILE HIGHWAY TRIP WITH MY FAMILY. AS I WAS EXAMINING THE REAR BRAKE PADS ON MY TRUCK, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE RIGHT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM. FURTHER EXAMINATION SHOWED THAT THE PROTECTIVE COATING ON THE CONTROL ARM HAD NOT ONLY FAILED BUT WAS HOLDING MOISTURE AND SALT AGAINST THE METAL OF THE CONTROL ARM. THEREFORE THIS LOWER CONTROL ARM IS ALSO QUITE THIN IN ONE SPECIFIC AREA AND APPEARS TO BE IN DANGER OF IMMINENT FAILURE. LIKEWISE I FOUND A HOLE AND THIN SOUND METAL ON THE LEFT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM. IF DRIVEN, THIS VEHICLE COULD EASILY HAVE A MAJOR LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT WITH LOSS OF LIVES. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT BECAUSE THE COATING THAT WAS DESIGNED TO PROTECT THIS VULNERABLE PART HAS ACTUALLY HASTENED ITS FAILURE. *TR

OUR 1998 FORD EXPEDITION WITH THE 5.4 V8 TRITON ENGINE HAD ANOTHER SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO, IT WAS THE #3 CYLINDER PLUG THEN AND LAST WEEK IT WAS THE #6 CYLINDER PLUG, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND HUNDREDS IF NOT MORE OF THE SAME ISSUES, AND NO ONE IS MAKING FORD DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, JUST THOUGHT MY VOICE IN THIS MATTER MIGHT HELP. PLEASE IF THERE WAS EVER AN INSTANCE OF A RECALL THIS IS SURELY ONE. THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT FOR THE SECOND TIME IN2 MONTHS. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE MOTOR WAS KNOCKING . FORD ONLY PUT 3 THREADS IN THE CYLINDER HEAD TO HOLD THE SPARK PLUG BUT THE SPARK PLUGS HAVE 10 THREADS. I CALLED FORD AND THEY ACTED LIKE THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. THERE ARE FORUMS GOING BACK TO 2002 THAT I WAS READING YESTERDAY ABOUT THIS ISSUE SO CLEARLY THEY WERE LYING. OWNERS REPORT ENGINE FIRES WHEN THE PLUG BLOWS OUT. MY VEHICLE DIDN'T CATCH FIRE .THEY REFUSE TO FIX THIS DEFECT AND DENY ITS THEIR FAULT.

THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP, THE GEAR WOULD NOT SWITCH INTO PARK AND THE BREAKS WOULD NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STOPPED FROM ACCELERATING AT TOP SPEED IN REVERSE INTO MY HOME. THERE IS BURN OUT MARKS IN MY GARAGE FROM WHERE THE WHEELS WERE SPINNING FULL SPEED, THERE IS A TAILPIPE BURN MARK WHERE THE TRUCK WAS LAUNCHED INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. Bought replacement brake pads from RockAuto 07/08/2023 9:06PM order 244457897 that are supposed to be Bosch BSH BC702 ceramic. What arrived is unbranded, unnumbered tag torn off the box with no identifiers at all. All brake pads used should have numbers to identify street legal for use but these have NOTHING on them, the box, anything. Unsafe if cannot identify use. RockAuto wants me to pay for return for their mistake, but bigger problem is that unknown pads are being sent out by RockAuto. I still have unopened set if interested.

THIS COMPLAINT INVOLVES THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF ALL BRAKE LINES DUE TO RUST ON MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. ALL LINES HAVE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH FROM THE OUTSIDE IN ONLY 12 YEARS. THE FIRST LINE (FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROL) FAILED ABOUT A WEEK AGO, RESULTING IN TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD ABOUT 2 BLOCKS FROM HOME AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT BACK HOME. AFTER REPLACING THAT LINE ($70 FOR THE PART) I TOOK IT OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE. THE SECOND TIME I HIT THE BRAKES THEY AGAIN FAILED! THIS TIME THE LINE GOING TO THE REAR FAILED. THE TRUCK IS PRESENTLY AT A FORD DEALER. THEY SAY ALL LINES ARE RUSTED THROUGH AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. COST: $3000! I FEEL THAT BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT RUST OUT IN ONLY 12 YEARS ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN GARAGED ALL IT'S LIFE. IT CONTAINED A BRIEF NOTE ON HOW TO CHECK FOR DEFECTIVE OR WORN PARTS. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME THEIR WOULD BE A CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE. I CHECKED THE VEHICLE MYSELF USING THEIR RECOMENDATION AND NOTICED NO WORN PARTS. I HAVE INFORMED FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP OF THE CONCERN, THEY SAID BRING IT IN TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT. AGAIN THE WANTED $$. I WILL HAVE A PRIVATE GARAGE INSTALL ALL NEW FRONT STEERING PARTS ON MY VEHICLE. THE FUEL TANK IS PLACED IN SUCH A MANNER THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN UP HILL (OR IS PARKED FACING UP HILL) THE FUEL GAUGE WILL REGISTER UP TO A QUARTER TANK MORE THAN ON A FLAT SURFACE, AND WHEN TRAVELLING DOWN HILL (OR WHEN PARKED FACING DOWN HILL) THE GAS GAUGE WILL REGISTER UP TO A QUARTER TANK LESS THAN ON A FLAT SURFACE. THE RESULT IS THAT WHEN TRAVELLING OR BEING PARKED ON A DOWN HILL SURFACE THE VEHICLE WILL EITHER NOT START OR RUN OUT OF GAS, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A QUARTER TANK OF GASOLINE. I CONTACTED A FORD DEALER IN GLENDALE WHEN I FIRST EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY ONLY RESPONDED THAT THIS IS THE VEHICLE'S DESIGN. THE DEALER ALSO PROVIDED ME WITH A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ACKNOWLEDGING FORD'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAS TANK FLUCTUATION PROBLEM. THEY CHECKED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AND SAID BATTERY DEAD, NEEDED AN OVERNIGHT CHARGE. LET THEM CHARGE BATTERY, PUT BACK IN CAR, HORN STARTED BLOWING AND WOULD NOT STOP DESPITE MY USING BOTH THE KEY AND KEY FOB. HORN BLEW FOR 5 HOURS BEFORE I FOUND OUT HOW TO DISCONNECT FROM GOOGLE. GOT HORN TO STOP, AND CAR WOULDN'T START. FORD DEALER SAID ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED AT COST OF $250 PLUS TOW TO DEALER. I NEVER ARMED THE SYSTEM AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE SHUT MY TRUCK DOWN AND PREVENTED ME FROM DRIVING IT. I DON'T HAVE $250 AND THEN I FOUND OUT THE REPAIR IS ONLY $100 AT MOST. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER, MAKING ME BELEIVE THAT THIS WAS MORE THAN AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. TOOK 2 1/2 WEEKS TO GET PARTS IN. ASKED THE DEALER SINCE IT WAS OCCURING MOSTLY ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE OTHER VEHICLES, I WAS WONDERING IF THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE ON MINE. ALSO. I WAS TOLD ONLY IF IT BREAKS. I HAVE A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION EB MODEL. I JUST HAD TO TAKE IT INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE WINDSHIELD IS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND THE GEM MODULE HAS BEEN GETTING WET AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FUSE BOX. APPARENTLY THIS IS QUITE COMMON WITH THIS YEAR AND MODLE.I HAVE TO SPEND 885 TO HAVE IT FIXED AND NOW HAVE TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED AS WELL. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND THE LIGHTS FLICKERS ON AND OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE POWER LOCKS WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE WINDOWS WOULD GO UP AND DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS IS NOT SAFE! IT DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION ONCE THEN THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND IT WOULDN'T STOP. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. I WAS DRIVING @ 70MPH DOWN INTERSTATE 10 IN SEGUINE TEXAS WHEN THE SPARKPLUG ON MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD, DESTROYING THE COIL, PLUG AND WIRE. THE VEHICLE INTERIOR FILLED WITH GAS FUMES AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO KNOCK VERY LOUDLY. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FUEL VAPORS IGNITING, HOWEVER THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. WARNING LIGHT FOR SUSPENSION SYSTEM WITH AIR LEVELER ON 4X4, SUSPENSION WARNING LIGHT COMES ON SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. VEHICLE NEVER LEVELED WITH A LOAD ON THE HITCH. THE AIR COMPRESSOR RUNS A LOT AND BECAME VERY NOISY OVER THE YEARS. THE VEHICLE ROCKS BACK AND FORTH, IN, RIGHT SIDE GOES UP AND DOWN A FEW INCHES, WILL NOT LEVEL UNDER LOAD. NEVER FELT SAFE TO TOW ANYTHING WHICH WAS THE PURPOSE FOR BUYING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE REFUSES TO ACCEPT THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE. TOOK IN 3 - 4X A YEAR FOR SAME AND THEY REFUSED TO LOOK AT ANYTHING EXCEPT THE COMPUTER READOUT. PRESENTED LIST OF RELATED NHTSA REPORTS AND FORD SAID THEY DO NOT USE THEM UNDER WARRANTY. PURCHASED FORDS BEST EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH WILL EXPIRE IN 3 MONTHS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. COMPRESSOR PUMP BROKE A WEEK AGO AND THEY REFUSE TO LOOK AT ANYTHING ELSE. INITIAL RECOMMENDATION WAS TO DISCONNECT WARNING LIGHT. SECOND RECOMMENDATION WAS TO SELL VEHICLE IF I DIDN'T LIKE IT. NO OBLIGATION FOR THE 45,000.00 PAID. SPEED SENSITIVE POWER STEERING: AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THE VEHICLE PULLED RIGHT. THE VEHICLE ALSO EXHIBITED A PROBLEM I CALL STEERING BURST OR HANG. WHEN TURNING EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT THE POWER ASSIST STEERING WOULD CONTINUE TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS CONTINUED PRESSURE COULD ONLY BE STOPED BY JERKING HARD, BACK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON THE STEERING WHEEL. ANOTHER ISSUE EXPERIENCED IS WHEN ACCELERATING HARD FROM A STOP OR PASSING ETC. THE VEHICLE MOVES TO THE RIGHT OF THE LANE OF TRAVEL. THIS OCCURS IN A SURPRISINGLY QUICK AND UNUSUAL MANNER AS IF THE VEHICLE WHERE DOG TRACKING TO THE RIGHT.?. THE VEHICLE WAS ALIGNED BY THE DEARLER 4 TIMES IN THE FIRST WEAK OF OWNERSHIP. ALSO THE FRAME AND THE TIRES WERE CHECKED. AFTER THE FORTH ALIGNMENT I NOTICED THE VEHICLE WONDERING LEFT & RIGHT ON THE ROAD. SUSPECTING SOMTHING FISHY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP. THE MECHANIC THER POINTED OUT VISUALLY THE CASTER AND CAMBER ADJUSTMENT SLOTS AND HOW THEY WERE MAXED OUT. THE CASTER AND CAMBER HAD BEEN INTENTIONALLY SET TO 3 DEGREES AND 6 DEGREES OUT OF MANUFACTORS SPECIFICATIONS SO AS TO PULL LEFT. LEFT SO AS TO BURY THE PULL RIGHT PROBLEM. THIS STEERING SYSTEM IS EITHER MAL-ENGINEERED, MAL-ASSEMBLED OR HAS DEFECTIVE PARTS. A PROBLEM WHICH THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER CAN RESOLVE OR DON'T WANT TO RESOLVE IT. FORD HAD TWO OF THIER REPS LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. BOTH TIMES THEY STATED THE VEHICLE OPERATES AS PER DESIGN. THE LAST TIME THEY (FORD & DEALER) HAD THE VEHICLE THEY DEACTIVATED THE SPEED SENSITVE FEATURE WHICH MAKES THE PROBLEM FEEL LESS APPARENT BUT IS NON THE LESS STILL THERE. THE POWER STEERING IS NOW STIFFER AND TIGHTER I CAN ONLY SURMISE TO FURTHER ATTEMP TO COVER -UP THE PROBLEM. OTHER EXPEDITIONS I TEST DROVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. AND ON THE"FORD EXPEDITION ENTHUSIEST" WEB SITE THERE ARE MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS. THE A/C FAILURE WAS CATASTROPHIC THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED, LATE AT NIGHT I MIGHT ADD.
