THE TREAD IS SEPARATING FROM THE TIRE ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THERE IS ABOUT 30K ON THE TIRES WHICH HAVE A 70K MILE WARRANTY. THE SAME TIRE ALTHOUGH DIFFERENT SIZE ARE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION EQUIPPED WITH GOOD YEAR TRACKER2 TIRES, SIZE: P265-70-R17 (SERIAL NUMBER: 48570555000). THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WOULD CONSTANTLY LOSE AIR, CAUSING THE TIRES TO BECOMES FLAT WITHOUT WARNING. THE TIRES WERE REPLACEMENT TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE SHOP WHERE TWO TIRES WERE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WITH THE REPLACEMENT TIRES. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 165,713. UPDATED 8/15/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES AFTER 1 1.2 YEARS. DURING THAT TIME PERIOD, SHE EXPERIENCED TEN TIRE INCIDENTS.

DRIVE A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WITH YOKOHAMA GEOLANDER H/T S P265/70R17 AND HAD BLOWOUT OF ONE TIRE ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALL. EXTENDED OVER 15 INCHES AND WAS CLOSE TO THE RIM AS EVIDENCED IN MOST BLOWOUTS. THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AFTER A TIRE ROTATION WHEN IT RUPTURED ABRUPTLY. RESULTED IN A TEAR OF ABOUT 12 INCHES AND THEN ENDED IN AN EXTENSION TO THE TREAD. *TR

I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM THE BACK OF MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. I LOOKED IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR TO SEE A TIRES ROLLING AND BEING TOSSED DOWN THE TURNPIKE WITH CARS TRYING TO DODGE THE TIRE. I THOUGHT I HAD JUST ROLLED OVER THE TIRE BUT WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND NOTICED THE TIRE WAS GONE AND THE WINCH CABLE WAS BROKEN. MY EXPEDITION CAUGHT ON FIRE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AT LEAST 30 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING IT. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND A WATER HOSE, BUT THE PLASTIC PARTS WERE WERE MELTED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED AND I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT IT WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL RELAY.

I BEGAN NOTICING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF, DASH GAUGES GOING ON AND OFF, RADIO GOING ON AND OFF, HEATER GOING ON AND OFF, DOOR ALARM STAYING ON WHEN DRIVER'S DOOR IS OPEN, BUT NO KEY IN IGNITION OR LIGHTS ON, DOOR LOCKS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, 4WD ENGAGING AUTOMATICALLY, CD PLAYER GOING OFF AND ON, WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING ON AND OFF, AND WATER ON DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR AFTER RAINS. IT HAS BECOME MORE OF A PROBLEM. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS UNTIL I BEGAN REPLACING PARTS AND FOUND ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE EXPEDITION AND FORD BEING AWARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS. VEHICLE SITTING IN DRIVEWAY AFTER 2 DAYS OF RAIN. WENT TO START UP VEHICLE AND BATTERY DEAD. TOOK BATTERY OUT TO BE TESTED AND TESTED FINE. SPENT $165 ON ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE DEAD AGAIN NEXT MORNING. CHARGED BATTERY STARTED VEHICLE UP. NOTICED WATER IN FLOORBOARDS AND HEADLINER. WHEN KEY WAS REMOVED FROM IGNITION, RADIO WAS STILL ON AND DOOR WOULD STILL DING AS IF KEY IN IGNITION. BATTERY DEAD AGAIN SEVERAL HOURS LATER. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, WAS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED TO LEARN THE ISSUE IS VERY WELL DOCUMENTED WITH IMPROPERLY SEALED WINDSHIELDS. RATHER THAN FORD PAYING TO RESEAL OR INFORM CONSUMERS TO FIX OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS, THEY ALLOWED CONSUMERS TO EXPERIENCE DREADFUL ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS WITH VEHICLE. WITHOUT GOING TO MECHANIC, I REMOVED BOTH THE GEM MODULE AND FUSE BOX. PUT FAX IN VEHICLE TO SPEED UP THE DRYING PROCESS. ALLOWED FUSE BOX TO SIT INSIDE FOR A WEEK AND ORDERED A GEM MODULE OFF THE INTERNET. CLEANED CORROSION FROM FUSE BOX/GEM CONNECTORS AND REPLACED GEM MODULE. VEHICLE PERFORMS MUCH BETTER. THINGS THAT HAVEN'T WORKED IN YEARS (AUTO LOCKS) NOW WORK. HOWEVER, RADIO LOSES POWER INTERMITTENTLY WHICH IS FRUSTRATING. I OWN 2 FORDS AND AM A VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED CONSUMER THAT SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN FIXED FOR $100 HAVE COST LOYAL CONSUMERS THOUSANDS. *TR

I HAVE OWNED A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION FOR APPROX. 3 YRS. AND ON NOV. 22, 2017 WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT AT MY WORK(APPROX. 3HRS) IT DECIDED TO LIGHT ITSELF ON FIRE! I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL AND AM EXTREMELY ANGRY AS I HAVE PUT OVER $10,000 WORTH OF UPGRADES TO THE VEHICLE. HAD I BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL I WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT IMMEDIATELY. THE RECALL NUMBER IS 05V017000 AND FORD RECALL NUMBER IS 05S28. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. AN INVESTIGATOR ASSESSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WHICH WAS RELATED TO AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

WHILE I PULLED IN A PARKING LOT AFTER FREEWAY DRIVING THE THROTTLE STICKS. THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN LOT TEMPERATURES. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKE EXTREMELY HARD TO STOP AND THE MOMENT YOU REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE SPEEDS UP. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON SNOW COVER ROADS THE ABS KICKS IN. WHEN THE ABS RELEASES THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE JERKS FORWARD 2 TO 3 FEET. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. FORD HAS ISSUES A TSB ON THE PROBLEM (TSB 01-21-5) SUGGESTING A PVC REPAIR KIT. THE PROBLEM IS NOT BEING CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE PART, IT IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN ALLOWING MOISTURE TO ENTER THE SYSTEM FROM THE PCV AND ICE UP THE THROTTLE PLATE. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. *TR

TAKING OFF FROM A STOP IN THE SUBDIVISION, MY SON WITH A FRIEND IN THE VEHICLE HEARD A SLIGHT CLUNK, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. HE KEPT DRIVING, BUT THE VEHICLE "FELT A LITTLE STRANGE" HE REPORTED. HE PULLED OUT ONTO A MAJOR ROADWAY AND HEARD ANOTHER LOUD NOISE, BUT THE CAR KEPT GOING, SO HE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AS SOON AS HE COULD, TO DISCOVER THAT THE REAR END ALMOST FELL OFF THE CAR. THE CAR HAS 4 WHEEL DRIVE WITH AWD. THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT GOT PULLED OUT OF THE TRANSFER CASE, DROPPED TO THE GROUND STARTED TO DRAG. IT SNAPPED OFF, BREAKING THE PINION SHAFT, WHEN PULLING OFF THE ROAD. THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS HAD RUSTED AWAY AND SNAPPED OFF. I LIVE IN THE RUST BELT IN THE CHICAGO SUBURBS, AND EXPECT THINGS LIKE DOORS AND FENDERS TO RUST, BUT A MAJOR PIECE OF THE SUSPENSION THAT HOLDS THE WHOLE CAR TOGETHER? REALLY? DOESN'T THAT DESERVE AT LEAST A HEADS UP MENTION IN THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE MANUAL, OTHER THAN AT INTERVALS HAVE THE SUSPENSION CHECKED? THE MANUAL PRETTY CLEARLY DESCRIBES CHECKING THINGS AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS, AND I'VE ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED AT THE LOCAL (NOW CLOSED MERCURY DEALER NEARBY). THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT, AND I'VE OWNED IT FOR 12 YEARS. I'M EXTREMELY THANKFUL NOBODY WAS INJURED. FORD CURRENTLY DOES NOT HAVE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED ON THIS ISSUE. IF IT HAD 200,000 MILES AND WASN'T EVER CARED FOR OR GARAGE KEPT, THEN I'D BE A LITTLE LESS SURPRISED!! AS OF THIS WRITING I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE CAR FIXED YET BECAUSE IT WILL INVOLVE GETTING THE ENTIRE DIFFERENTIAL REBUILT. I HAD PLANNED ON KEEPING THIS VEHICLE FOR A WHOLE LOT LONGER THAN 70,000 MILES. I'M BEING FORCED TO SHOP FOR ANOTHER FAMILY BUS DUE TO POOR ENGINEERING ON FORDS PART. 2000 EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION, THE PAINT ON THE HOOD HAS STARTED TO START CHIPPING AND STARTED PEELING OFF, THREE WEEKS AGO. The contact owns a 2000 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to prevent oversteering. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the steering shaft. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred because the aftermarket replacement part was too short. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 315,000.

while driving smoke came from under my hood by the time i opened it was a full blown fire on the passenger side near the fuel injectors and spark plugs. we called 911 police and fire department came a nearby business owner loaned a fire extinguisher and we got the fire out. the fire men say it was caused by a spark plug that had came out caught spark with oil or gas it damaged hoses electrical and not sure what else yet.

I OWN A 2000 MY FORD EXPEDITION XLT. ON JULY 4, 2010, I WAS LEAVING MY HOUSE AND DRIVING DOWN THE STREET TOWARDS AN INTERSECTION WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. UPON PLACEMENT OF MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, VIRTUALLY ALL BRAKING POWER WAS LOST FORCING ME TO QUICKLY APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO AVOID CROSSING AN INTERSECTION. I THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE AROUND AND DROVE BACK TO MY HOUSE AND PARKED IT UNTIL IT COULD BE TOWED. ON JULY 6, 2010, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. LATER THAT SAME DAY THE FORD MECHANIC CONTACTED ME AND SAID THAT THE MAIN SUPPLY LINE FOR THE REAR BRAKES HAD RUSTED CAUSING A LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. ONCE THE FAILURE ORIGINALLY OCCURRED, IT DID NOT CORRECT ITSELF UNTIL FORD REPLACED THE BRAKE SYSTEM SUPPLY LINE. THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS CATASTROPHIC IN THAT IT CAUSED A NEAR LOSS OF ALL BRAKING CAPACITY. TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING HIS 2000 FORD EXPEDITION (67000 FAILURE MILEAGE) HE WAS HEARING A CLUNKING SOUND ONLY WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT RETURNED HOME THEN RAISED THE VEHICLE UP AND GOT UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT PART OF THE FRAME WHICH HELD THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE TOGETHER HAD RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE RADIATOR MOUNT WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED.

I HAVE A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION THE PAST 3 DAYS WE HAVE HAD HARD RAINS. I WENT OUT TO MY CAR AND FOUND THAT THE FLOOR ON BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDES AND PASSENGER SIDE OF THE SUV WAS FLOODED. MY RADIO WAS ON THE CAR WAS NOT. THE DASH LIGHT WERE GOING CRAZY. I STARTED THE CAR TO MOVE IT SO THAT I COULD GET IT NEAR AN OUTLET TO USE THE WET VAC TO REMOVE THE WATER AND THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK. I REMOVED THE WATER FROM THE FLOORS AND WHEN I WENT TO MOVE MY EXPEDITION IT WOULD NOT START IT SEEMS THAT IT IS LEAKING FROM THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS DRIVING ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE IN A HARD RAIN AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. I COULD NOT SEE AND WAS FORCED TO QUICKLY BRAKE AND PULL OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS CAUSED A CAR BEHIND ME TO SWERVE OUT OF CONTROL. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NOT ANY PHYSICAL ACCIDENT. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND FEEL LIKE I CAN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE SAFELY IN THE RAIN. SYMPTOMS IN THE RAIN ONLY: WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP WORKING. WE RECENTLY HAD A SNOW STORM IN OUR AREA. AFTER THE STORM OUR EXPEDITION STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS. THE FIRST PROBLEM TO OCCUR WAS THE FRONT BLOWER MOTOR FOR THE CLIMATE CONTROL WOULD TURN ON HIGH WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION. I STARTED RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM AND STARTED FINDING MANY SIMILAR STORIES ON THE INTERNET. THE NEXT DAY MANY OTHER PROBLEMS POPPED UP SEVERAL DASH LIGHT WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF, WHEN THIS WAS HAPPENING YOU COULD HERE RELAYS UNDER THE DASH CLICKING ON AND OFF. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS HAVING ITS EPISODE OF FLASHING LIGHTS I FOUND THAT MY WINDOW CONTROLS AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS ALSO DID NOT WORK. I PARKED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF THAT DAY AND IT HAD ONE MORE SURPRISE FOR ME. WHEN THE LIGHT SWITCH WAS TURNED TO THE AUTOMATIC DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND THE KEY WAS OFF YOU COULD HERE RELAYS UNDER THE DASH OPENING AND CLOSING AT A FAST RATE. I TURNED THE SWITCH TO OFF AND IT STOPPED. I TALKED TO MY STEPFATHER WHO IS A MECHANIC. HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS BEFORE HE SAID IT PROBABLY WAS MY GEM MODULE, HE SAID THAT THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE IS PRONE TO THESE MODULES MALFUNCTIONING. I DID MORE RESEARCH ON LINE AND FOUND THAT A INVESTIGATION WAS DONE ON THIS ISSUE BY NHTSA THE ACTION NUMBER WAS EA05015 IT WAS CONDUCTED IN 2005. FROM THE LOOKS OF IT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME THAT HAS AFFECTED MANY PEOPLE BUT STILL NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. THIS IS ONE OF TWO PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS OTHERWISE GOOD VEHICLE WHICH IS MAKING IT AN UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE VEHICLE. HOW CAN I FEEL SAFE LETTING MY FAMILY DRIVE AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE WHEN IT RAINS OR SNOWS WHICH IS FOR THE MOST PART ALL THE TIME IN WASHINGTON? SINCE THE EARLY 1960'S , I HAVE BEEN VERY AWARE OF MANY FORD PRODUCTS THAT THE BRAKE/SYOP LIGHTS FAIL TO ACTIVATE WHEN THE VEHICLE S BRAKES ARE APPLIED TO STOP OR SLOW THE VEHICLE. I HAVE DRIVEN FOR A LIVING SINCE THE EARLY 60'S AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS TODAY ON MANY FORD PRODUCTS THE SAME AS IT ALWAYS HAS. I HAVE PERSONALLY STOPPED AND TOLD MANY OF THOSE DRIVERS IN AN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THEM FROM BEING REAR-ENDED DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEHIND THEM NOT BEING ALERTED TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE SLOWING/STOPPING. AT ONE TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH LOCATET UNDER THE DASH THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ACTIVATE THE BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED. I DO NOT KNOW IF ANY CORRECTIONS WERE EVER MADE TO THAT PROBLEM BUT AS RECENTLY AS THIS WEEK I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING A FORD THAT DID NOT HAVE WORKING BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN IT STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. I AM RETIRED FROM THE BELL SYSTEM AND AS A REQUREMENT TO OPERATE A COMPANY MOTOR VEHICLE WE WERE GIVEN TRAINING ANNUALLY CALLED SMITH SYSTEM DEFENSIVE DRIVER TRAINING AND ALONG WITH ALL THE EXCELLENT SKILLS WE WERE TAUGHT WE WERE ALSO TOLD TO NOT FOLLOW A FORD WHENEVER POSSIBLE FOR THE OBVIOUS REASONS JUST STATED. MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION HAS CAUSED US NUMEROUS HEADACHES AND NEAR ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT OF RAIN ENTERING THE VEHICLE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION. ONCE THE RAIN WATER ENTERS THE DRIVER SIDE DASH PANEL ( UNDERSIDE ) AND COMES IN CONTACT WITH ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS MOUNTED THERE, NUMEROUS FAILURES OCCUR, SUCH AS : WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT WORKING, INTERIOR AND DASH PANEL LIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF, AND EVENTUALLY QUIT WORKING. THE SAFETY SWITCH WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE TO BE PLACED IN DRIVE WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE ALSO FAILS ONCE THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THESE PROBLEMS ARE NOT JUST A NUISANCE, BUT A SAFETY HAZARD, AND AFTER SPEAKING TO OTHER EXPEDITION OWNERS AND READING NUMEROUS COMMON STORIES OF THE SAME PROBLEM, I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED ACCORDINGLY. IN EARLY JAN 2006, WE HAVE A POPPING SOUND AND MOVEMENT IN THE STEERING WHEEL OF OUR 2000 EXPEDITION. WE COULD FEEL IT MOVING IN THE STEERING WHEN DRIVING AND WERE CONCERNED. WE HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON OUR EXPEDITION SO WE TOOK IT TO GERMAIN FORD IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. THEY SAID THE LEFT FRONT STABILIZER LINK BOLT HAD BROKE IN HALF AND THE STABILIZER BAR WAS SLIPPING ON AND OFF CAUSING THE MOVEMENT AND SOUND. THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM. MY EXPEDITION HAS ONLY 51,000 MILES AND IS DRIVEN BY MY WIFE TO WORK. AT THE SAME TIME THE DEALER TOLD ME BY BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I THEN RECALLED A SERVICE NOTICE SOME TIME BACK ABOUT SOMETHING IN THE FRONT END OF EXPEDITIONS SO I LOOKED THROUGH MY FILES. SURE ENOUGH, FORD SENT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN IN 6-04 "TITLED TIE ROD INSPECTION PROCEDURE". WHILE THE SERVICE BULLETIN COVERS A COUPLE ITEMS IT BELIEVE IT SHOWS FORD KNEW THEY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT ENDS AND SENT OUT A SERVICE NOTICE TO EXCUSE THEMSELVES AND TO AVOID PAYING FOR REPAIRS. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT COVER, I CALLED THE WARRANTY HOTLINE. THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME "BALL JOINTS ARE WEARING OUT SOONER THEN THEY WOULD EXPECT" BUT IT WAS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM SO I HAD TO GET THOSE REPAIRED AS WELL. IN SUMMARY, I BELIEVE THE BOLT BREAKING COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT FOR A CUSTOMER TO SPEND $800 TO REPLACE A BROKEN BOLT IN THE FRONT LINKAGE AND BALL JOINTS ON AN EXCELLENT CONDITION VEHICLE WITH ONLY 51,000 MILES IS OUTRAGEOUS. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN IT FELT LIKE THE TRUCK WAS SKIPPING. CONSUMER THEN PULLED OF THE ROAD. UPON EXITING THE TRUCK CONSUMER NOTICED THAT 3 OF THE WHEELS WERE FACING FORWARD, AND THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS TURNED INWARDS. THE TRUCK WAS THEN TOWED TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE STEERING LINKAGE, AND INDICATED THAT A TIE ROD HAD FALLEN OFF, AND THE OTHERS WERE LOOSE, ALL 4 TIE RODS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION AFTER IT RAINS. TODAY MY ALARM WOULD NOT WORK SO I HAD TO USE THE KEYLESS PAD TO UNLOCK MY VEHICLE, BUT IT DOES NOT WORK TO LOCK THE VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE CAUSED THE REAR AXLE TO TWIST, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TO SHIFT POSITION, AND FOR THE DRIVE SHAFT U-JOINTS TO BIND. PRIOR TO THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES PURCHASED ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE SAFETY RECALL OF TIRES, I HAD NO APPARENT PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION OR REAR SUSPENSION. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE TIRE REPLACEMENT I NOTICED A SCRUBBING OR DRAGGING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND QUESTIONED AS TO WHY THE VEHICLE WAS NOW MAKING A NOISE THAT WAS NOT THERE BEFORE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES WERE A LITTLE LARGER THAN THE ORIGINAL ONES AND THAT THE NOISE WOULD SUBSIDE. THE NOISE DID NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK AGAIN AND I ASKED WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE EXPEDITION BECAUSE THE NOISE WAS VERY ANNOYING AND APPEARED TO GET WORST. I WAS WORRIED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS HAVING PROBLEMS. THE EXPEDITION WAS PLACED ON THE RACK AND EXAMINED BY THE SAME FORD DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE NOISE CONTINUED AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS. WE TOOK THE TRANSMISSION TO HAVE IT FLUSHED AND THEN STARTED EXPERIENCING INCREASED PROBLEMS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER HAVING IT FLUSHED. SO MUCH SO THAT IT WAS RETURNED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE SAME DAY BECAUSE WE THOUGHT MAYBE THEY HAD FORGOTTEN TO PUT SOMETHING BACK TOGETHER. WE WERE REFERRED TO A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP TO CHECK. AT THAT TIME, THE TRANSMISSION SERVICE REPAIR MAN SAID THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT ON HIS MACHINE. WHEN WE RETURNED HOME, WE NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO WORSEN SO WE DID NOT DRIVE THE EXP FOR ABOUT A MONTH HOPING THAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM AND FIND SOMEONE ELSE WHO HAD EXPERIENCED AND FIXED IT. I OWN A 2000 FOR EXPEDITION AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS. FIRST THE CAPS ON THE SPARK PLUGS GO BAD EVERYTIME IT GETS WASHED OR GOES THROUGH PUDDLES ON THE ROAD. THEN WHEN IT RAINS WATER SEEPS INTO SOME CONTROL BOX AND CAUSES THE RADIO AND AIR TO RUN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY REMOVED, IT WILL EVEN GO AS FAR AS ENGAGING THE ANTI THEFT SO IT WON'T START. I HAVE EVEN LOST CONTROL OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHILE DRIVING, THE RAIN DRIPS ON MY FEET AND SOAKS THE FLOOR MAT EVEN IF IT JUST SITTING. THE LATEST ISSUE IS WITH AN EJECTED SPARK PLUG WHICH FORTUNATELY DID NOT START A FIRE JUST LEAVING ME STRANDED TWICE IN ONE WEEK. I AM TOLD THERE IS NO GOOD FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I AM GETTING ESTIMATES AS HIGH AS $3500. MOST SAY THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS ONE DESIGN FLAW AFTER ANOTHER AND THAT FORD ONLY GIVES ONE EXCUSE AFTER ANOTHER. I TOOK MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION XLT IN TO HUNTINGTON BEACH FORD TO BE SERVICED DUE TO R.P.M. FLUCTUATION AND A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT. THEY CONDUCTED A DIAGNOSIS AND STATED I WOULD NEED A I.A.C. PART. THE NEW I.A.C. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM SO I TOOK IT BACK TO H.B. FORD AND THEY STATED I WOULD NEED A D.P.F.E. SENSOR. I HAD THEM REPLACE THAT WHICH DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE R.P.M. FLUCTUATION WAS STILL EVIDENT. I WENT BACK TO H.B. FORD AND THEY DIAGNOSED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. I GAVE THEM THE O.K. TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY CALLED ME A COUPLE DAYS LATER TO INFORM ME THAT THAT DID NOT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM SO I WILL NEED TO PAY AN EXTRA $400 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FEE SO THEY CAN CHECK ALL THE WIRING. I OWN 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. JUST FOUND OUT THE WINDSHIELD IS LEAKING, CAUSING WATER TO GET INTO FUSE BOX AND GEM MODULE UNDER DASH CAUSING MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE 4-WAY FLASHERS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING; THE BLOWER STAYED ON EVEN AFTER REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, ETC. HAD WINDSHIELD REPLACED TODAY AND IT ONLY TOOK 1 MINUTE TO BREAK THE SEAL. THE REPAIR GUY SAID IT SHOULD TAKE AT LEAST 20 MINUTES AND THAT IF WE WOULD HAVE HAD A WRECK THE WINDSHIELD WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT. I'VE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN 1997-2001 F150'S, EXPEDITIONS AND NAVIGATORS, BUT ESPECIALLY THE 2000 EXPEDITION. THOUGHT IT WAS MUFFLER(S). GOT UNDER CAR TO LOOK NOTHING WRONG THERE, PROCEEDED TO GO BACK HOME. ( LESS THAN 5 BLOCKS AWAY) DRIVING ON (COASTING) ONLY USING GAS PEDAL TO MAKE IT INTO DRIVEWAY. GOT UNDER HOOD AND SEEN SPARK PLUG LAYING ON ENGINE, COIL LOOING LIKE IT HAD CAUGHT FIRE. REPLACED WIRE, PLUG AND PUT A HELIX COIL ON IT. DROVE FOR ABOUT A MONTH. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. HAD MECHANIC "RETHREAD" THE HEAD AND USE "SLEEVE". THIS LASTED ABOUT ANOTHER MONTH. HAD TO REPLACE IT 3 MORE TIMES (ALWAYS THE SAME PLUG THAT POPPED OUT) UNTIL AUGUST 2 WHEN IT DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY BEFORE IT POPPED AGAIN. I FIRST NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THEY WOULD NOT COME ON OR JUST STOP RUNNING THEN THEY STARTED NOT TURNING OFF I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE TO TURN THE WIPERS ON AND OFF. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD TO HAVE THE PROBLEM LOOKED AT AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE CONTROL SWITCH WAS BAD AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED ALSO DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD AND SAME APPOINTMENT I HAD TO HAVE A BRAKE SENSOR REPLACED. I STARTED NOTICING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS LIKE THE RADIO WOULD TURN OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN OUT OF PARK AND SOME TIMES IT WOULD TURN OFF WHEN YOU WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND TURN BACK ON BY ITS SELF. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I WOULD BE LEAVING WORK AND TRY TO USE THE REMOTE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS AND IT WOULD NOT WORK AND WHEN I USE THE KEY TO OPEN THE DOOR THE RADIO WOULD BE ON AND THE AC WOULD BE BLOWING AIR. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THE WINDSHIELD IS LEAKING AND AFTER A RAIN WAS WHEN THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR MOSTLY. I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AND ADVISED FORD WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE FORD EXPEDITION AND FORD F150. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE SEAL ON THE WINDSHIELD OVER TIME SEPARATES FROM THE FRAME AND CAUSES THE LEAK. I SAID THEN THIS IS A DEFECT AND WAS ADVISED NO ITS NOT ITS JUST SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS. MY EXPEDITION IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD ITS A 2000 IN GREAT CONDITION AND HAD BEEN GARAGE KEPT FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COIL PACK LOCATED NEAR THE AIR COMPRESSOR, COULD DEVELOP MOISTURE, WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE COIL SPRINGS TO FAIL AND THE VEHICLE TO STALL. SECONDLY, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IN RAINY CONDITIONS, CONDENSATION UNDER THE HOOD COULD CAUSE THE COIL SPRINGS TO FAIL SPONTANEOUSLY. AS A RESULT, THE RISK OF A CRASH IS INCREASED. THREE COIL SPRINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $500. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 120,000.

FOR THE 60,000 MILE SERVICE (PRE-EMPTING A VACATION ROAD TRIP) WHILE ON THE TRIP THE TRANSMISSION WENT COMPLETELY OUT--ONLY 25,000 MILES ON THE RE-BUILT TRANNY. THE VEHICLE HAD 3 CHILDREN--1 WITH AUTISM AND THE OTHER A NEWBORN. THE VEHICLE HAD DIED IN AN INTERSECTION OF AN EMERGENCY ROOM AND BUSY STREET. I COULD ONLY GO IN REVERSE IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION LEAVING ME STRANDED IN A LEFT TURN LANE. I TRIED ALL GREERS FROM LOW ON UP AND TRIED TO ENGAGE ANY OF MY 4X4 CAPABILIIES WITHOUT ANYTHING. NOW I AM TOLD THAT ALMOST EVERYTHING INSIDE THE TRANNY WAS DESTROYED AND WAS EITHER REBUILT OR REPLACED. FORD FELT THAT IS WAS STILL CHEAPER TO REBUILD INSTEAD OF REPLACING WITH A NEW TRANNY. I AM NOW GIVEN A 12MON/12,000MILE WARRENTY ON THIS 2ND REBUILD. SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE IN MARCH 2000, WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ROUGH IDLING, TRANSMISSION NOT WANTING TO SHIFT, FRONT END CLUNKING, REAR END SUSPENSION AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION. EXTENSIVE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE ON THIS VEHICLE, INCLUDING REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION, YET NONE OF THE ABOVE ITEMS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING A VEHICLE WHEN SUDDENLY IT WILL ACCELERATE AND DRIVE ON ITS OWN. THE CAR CAN DRIVE AT 50 - 60 MPH FOR SEVERAL MILES WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT END MAKES HARD, LOUD GRINDING NOISES, WHEN BACKING UP THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE GOES OUT AND IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR HAS TWO FLAT TIRES. WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE ENGINE, WATCH THE RPM'S AND BE READY TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND PUSH FORCEFULLY ON THE BRAKES TO KEEP THE CAR FROM PLOWING INTO THE CAR AHEAD. LAST WEEK I PULLED INTO THE BANK PARKING LOT AND WITH NO WARNING THE CAR'S RPM'S JUMPED TO 3,000 AND I BARELY MISSED HITTING TWO PARKED CARS. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT END MAKES HARD, LOUD GRINDING NOISES, WHEN BACKING UP THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE GOES OUT AND IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR HAS TWO FLAT TIRES. FROM INITIAL LEASE OF VEHICLE, THERE WERE COMPLAINTS OF ROUGH RIDE AND APPARENT TIRE PROBLEMS. THE DEALER NEVER MADE ANY OFFER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT BALANCED AND ROTATED THE TIRES. ON ENGINE START, AT 1,935 MILES THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE DROP TO ZERO AND THE "ENGINE OIL" LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL ON THE DIP STICK. THE DIP STICK INDICATED BELOW "MIN". I POURED 3 QTS. OF OIL IN THE ENGINE AND DROVE TO THE NEAREST DEALER TO HAVE SERVICE. THE DEALER WAS NOT FULLY STAFFED SINCE IT WAS A SATURDAY. I ADDED 2 MORE QTS. OF OIL AND DROVE HOME. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON MONDAY FOR A LEAK CHECK. THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS FOUND NO LEAKS BUT ADDED ANOTHER 3 QTS. OF OIL. YOU LET OFF THE BREAK FROM A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT AND IT WILL SUDDENLY ACCERLERATE BY ITSELF. SEEMS TO HAPPEN ANYTIME AFTER 40MPH, EVEN IF YOU SLOW BACK DOWN TO 10-15MPH IT WILL ACCELERATE BACK UP ON ITS OWN, UP TO AS FAST AS 65MPH!) I NEED TO DOWNSHIFT AND RIDE BRAKES (WHICH ARE HARD AS A ROCK!!!) TO KEEP IT FROM EXCELLING THOUGH TOWN AND TO TRY TO KEEP THE RPMS AT BAY. WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND TURNING ITS HARD TO STEER AND IT MAKES JUMPY/JERKY MOVEMENTS FORWARD WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. WHEN VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP THE RPMS SKYROCKET UNTIL YOU SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. IF YOU HAVN'T GIVEN IT ENOUGH TIME BEFORE YOU START IT AGAIN, THE ENGINE AND RPMS SOAR UP AGAIN. THINGS WE'VE TRIED WITH NO LUCK ARE, DISENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL, REPLACING THE SPRING UNDER HOOD WHERE THE THROTTLE CABLE IS. THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS STRETCHED AND NOT DEPRESSING FULLY TO ALOW DECELERATION. AFTER THAT WE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ITSELF. AGAIN, NO LUCK ON TEST DRIVE. YOU CAN HEAR A CLICK/PING IN THE PEDAL AND SEE IT COME UP ONCE TRUCK IS IN PARK, GIVE IT TIME. PEDAL SEEMS TO BE PARTIALLY DEPRESSED AND THERE IS PLAY. HAVE TRIED TO STICK FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL TO TRY AND GET IT TO DISENGE. WORKED THE FIRST FEW TIMES THAT'S ALSO WHY THOUGHT IT WAS THE SPRING. NO LONGER WORKS TO DO THAT. WHILE DRIVING THIS EXPEDITION I BEGAN NOTICING STRANGE INTERMITTANT ELECTRICAL BEHAVIOR LIKE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS NOT WORKING, RADIO TURNING OFF, WINDSHIELD WASH LIGHT BLINKING, AND 4X4 LIGHT BLINKING. SEVERAL TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT I'D NOTICE THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME ON ON THEIR OWN. ALSO THE AIR RIDE WOULD TURN ON AND OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS OFF, AND THE HEATER FAN WOULD ALSO COME ON. THIS WOULD KILL THE BATTERY. SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE 4X4 WOULD TURN ON IN THE LOW GEAR MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE STARTER WOULD TURN ON WHILE THE CAR WAS ALREADY RUNNING. I REPLACED THE GEM MODULE AND HAD THE WINDSHIELD RESEALED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT AFTER JUST A FEW MONTHS THE PROBLEMS WOULD RECUR. THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN WAS WHEN THE STARTER KICKED ON WHILE RUNNING AND IT TOOK A MINUTE TO GET THE CAR SAFELY STOPPED. I COULD SMELL SMOKE FROM THE BURNED UP STARTER MOTOR. THE EXPEDITION HAS SAT FOR 1.5 YEARS AS I AM UNABLE TO SELL IT AND AM UNWILLING TO PUT ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY TO FIX THIS LEMON.

I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM A FAMILY TRIP GOING THE POSTED INTERSTATE SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A MAJOR LEAK HAD JUST OCCURRED. WHEN I PULLED OVER TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM I DISCOVERED THE REAR SPARK PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD EJECTED ITSELF DESTROYING THE THREADS THAT HOLD IT IN THE CYLINDER HEAD AND ALSO DESTROYING THE HELI COIL PACK THAT SITS ON TOP OF THE SPARK PLUG. I HAVE NEVER FILED A COMPLAINT OR SAFETY REPORT ON ANY VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. THIS TIME THE ONLY REASON I AM FILING A REPORT IS DUE TO THE FREQUENCY THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE ON FORD TRITON MOTORS. IT SEEMS EXCESSIVE AND UPON VERY LITTLE INVESTIGATING ON MY PART I HAVE FOUND THAT EVERY PERSON I HAVE TALKED TO ABOUT IT EITHER OWNS A VEHICLE WITH THE SAID MOTORS IN THEM AND HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, OR IS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS A PERSON WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. (SO MUCH EASIER TO LOOK THE FOOL) WE THEN FOUND HOSES THAT HAD CORRODED APART THAT WERE VACUUM HOSES AND THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM WE FIXED THEM. IT WASN'T THE PROBLEM. I DIDN'T KNOW THEN THAT MY SHOCKS WERE COMPLETELY GONE UNTIL WE WERE JACKING UP THE CAR AND REMOVING THE BACK TIRES TO INSPECT THE AIRBAGS BETTER WHEN WE SAW THAT THE RUST HAD COMPLETELY TAKEN OVER THE WHOLE UNDER CARRIAGE. NOW I HAVE FRONT & REAR TRAILING ARMS THAT HAVE NUMEROUS HOLES FROM THE RUST EATING THROUGH THEM, ALONG WITH THE FUEL TANK STRAPS THAT HAVE ALMOST ROTTED THEMSELVES LOOSE, AND ALMOST COMPLETELY BROKEN BALL JOINTS. I PURCHASED A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER SUV NEW FROM A LOCAL DEALER IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 127,300. THIS CONCERNS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THAT HAS HAPPENED TWICE SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY USED TO COMMUTE TO WORK, NEVER OFF-ROAD OR ABUSED IN ANY MANNER. A FEW MONTHS INTO OUR OWNERSHIP, WE WERE TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AND GOING OVER A OVERPASS AT 60 MILES AN HOUR THE SPARE TIRE DROPPED OFF THE SUV AND ROLLED ACROSS FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC AT NIGHT. LUCKILY, IT DID NOT KILL SOMEONE. THEN ABOUT 8 OR 9 MONTHS AGO IT HAPPENED AGAIN JUST BACKING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY. INSPECTING THE PROBLEM IT IS CLEAR THE STEEL CABLE HOIST HOLDING THE TIRE UP UNDER THE REAR IS BREAKING UNDER STRESS. IT IS CLEAR THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND A VERY REAL SAFETY ISSUE. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND I HAVE CALLED THEIR 800 NUMBER. THEY CLAIM THE VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I SAY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD NOT ONLY FIX BUT SHOULD REDESIGN THE WHOLE MOUNTING SYSTEM TO BETTER SUPPORT THE TIRE. THE TIRE AND RIM SHOULD HAVE A POSITIVE LOCKING DEVICE THAT SECURELY HOLDS THE TIRE IN PLACE SO THE STEEL CABLE HOIST IS USED ONLY TO RAISE AND LOWER THE TIRE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT REST. FORD WILL NOT PUT THIS IN WRITING. I HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE HERE IN CALIFORNIA WITH THE DMV AND OTHER AGENCIES - THEY ARE REFERRING ME TO MEDIATION BOARDS TO SETTLE IT FINANCIALLY. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE WORLD OF FORD DEALERSHIP IN ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA. THEY REPLACED THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULAR, AIRBAG LIGHT, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND REPROGRAMMED THE GEM MODULAR. THE ODOMETER READING AT THIS TIME WAS 26,795 MILES. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.*JUL 2002: I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO WORLD OF FORD IN ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA FOR THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AIRBAG LIGHTS, AND ABS LIGHTS. FORD SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 30,481 MILES. AGAIN, ALTHOUGH THE FORD SPECIAL MESSAGE HAD BEEN RELEASED IN APRIL OF 2002, AT NO TIME WAS IT MENTIONED TO ME AS A POSSIBLE SOURCE FOR THESE PROBLEMS.*SEP 2004: I WENT BACK TO WORLD OF FORD WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS MENTIONED ABOVE, PLUS THE TRIP METER/ODOMETER WAS BLINKING IN AND OUT. WE FIRST NOTICED A PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS RAINING. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY COME ON. THEN WE ALSO STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE HEATER / A/C FAN WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. ON SUNDAY 4/30/06, I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN ON A FREEWAY & THE WIPER LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON & THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY. ON MY WAY HOME, AGAIN ON THE FREEWAY IN THE RAIN, THE WIPER LIGHT & THE 4X4 LIGHT WOULD FLASH OFF & ON AT THE SAME TIME & AGAIN, THE AT TIMES THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE NEXT MORNING AS I DROVE TO WORK, AGAIN IN THE RAIN, ONLY THE 4X4 LIGHT WAS FLASHING & THE REAR WIPER WOULD NOT WORK. ALSO, THE FRONT WIPERS DID NOT WORK INTERMITTENTLY. I SPECIFICITY RECALL TURNING THE HEATER FAN OFF THAT MORNING BEFORE LEAVING THE VEHICLE. AFTER WORK, I ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK MY VEHICLE W/THE REMOTE UNLOCK & IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I MANUALLY UNLOCKED THE VEHICLE & THE DASH LIGHTS WERE ON. IT LOOKED LIKE I HAD NOT TURNED THE KEY OFF ALL OF THE WAY, BUT I DID! AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I HAD TO WALK A COUPLE OF MILES TO MY HUSBAND'S WORK & HE HAD TO TAKE HIS LUNCH EARLY TO BRING ME HOME. FORD HAD BETTER GET A RECALL OUT ON THIS. NOT ONLY IS IT VERY INCONVENIENT, BUT WHEN YOUR WIPERS DON'T WORK IN THE RAIN, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!!! I HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED THE NEXT DAY. AFTER THE REPAIR FACILITY SENT 2 1/2 DAYS TRYING TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM, THEY DISCOVERED THAT WATER WAS LEAKING BY THE WINDSHIELD ONTO THE GEM MODULE & THE FUSE PANEL. BUT IF WE DON'T, WE HAVE ALL OF THIS GOING ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF AND THEN THE BATTERY GOES DEAD. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF THESE THINGS STARTED HAPPENING AT ONE TIME, IT WAS RAINING. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE TRYING TO GET THE WIPERS TO FUNCTION AND GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD UNTIL ALL OF THIS STOPPED. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED FROM A LOCAL DEALER BACK IN NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR. THE PROBLEMS BEGAN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. INTERIOR LIGHTS INCLUDING DASH BOARD LIGHTS QUIT WORKING. HEAD LIGHTS AND WIPERS ALL QUIT WORKING IF RADIO IS TURNED ON. EMERGENCY FLASHERS CANNOT BE USED FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES WITHOUT OVERHEATING THE COMPONENT THUS CAUSING A COMPLETE FAILURE OF EMERGENCY FLASHERS, TURN, PARKING, BRAKE LIGHTS,RUNNING LIGHTS. TIRES DEVELOP MAJOR CUPPING AND FEATHERING THUS CAUSING SEVERE BOUNCE AND VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING AND HANDLING. (DOT NUMBER: 71532B TIRESIZE: 19.5)

MAJOR FRONT END COLLISION. SEAT BELT WAS ON - DRIVER SOLE OCCUPANT. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. FORD WAS NOTIFIED, AND TO DATE HAS DONE NOTHING TO EXPLAIN WHY THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION, BUT FORD HAS NOT CHOSEN TO LOOK AT IT, AND CANNOT OFFER ANY REASON WHY THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN SUCH A CRASH. DRIVER STRUCK CHEST ON STEERING WHEEL, AND IT IS BELEIVED SEAT BELT DID NOT TIGHTEN EITHER. *AK

DIXIE DONELSON HAD ONLY PURCHASED HER FORD EXPEDITION THE MONTH PRIOR (EARLY JUNE), AND WAS JUST UNDERWAY FOR A TRIP TO VISIT HER DAUGHTER IN COLORADO. THE ORIGINAL POLICE REPORT DOCUMENTS HER LOSING CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST 40 MINUTES OF HER TRIP. FURTHER OBSERVATIONS OF THE CRASH SITE HAVE REVEALED TREAD REMNANTS OF NEW FIRESTONE SUV TIRES. HOWEVER, THE EXPEDITION CAUGHT FIRE AND ALL REMAINING TIRES BURNED TO THE EXTENT OF NOT BEING IDENTIFIABLE. DIXIE HAD TOLD HER DUAGHTER SHE HAD NEW FIRESTONE TIRES, BUT WE HAVE HAD LITTLE SUCCESS IN DETERMINING THE ACTUAL TIRE MODEL.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: (UNKNOWN) )
