WHILE TRAVELING 60-65 MPH, IN THE FAST LINE OF A FOUR LANE INTERSTATE, MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION SUFFERED ENGINE FAILURE. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET MY CAR OFF THE INTERSTATE WITHOUT HARMING MYSELF OR MY CHILDREN. THE MECHANIC INFORMED US A ROCKER PIN HAD BROKEN AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO A PISTON RESULTING IN THE NEED FOR A NEW ENGINE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE ENGINE AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BECAUSE OF THE COST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE THROTTLE CONTROL UNIT MAY BE A SAFETY PROBLEM, CAUSING SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER TO THE VEHICLE. THE LIMP HOME MODE IS AT IDLE SPEED. I WAS DRIVING ON FOUR LANE HIGHWAY IN RIGHT LANE AT 40MPH. I NOTICED THE CAR STARTING TO SLOW DOWN AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL IT DID NOT REACT AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. I LOOKED AT MY GAUGES ON THE DASH AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS AND ALL GAUGES READ NORMALLY. I THOUGHT I COULD SMELL SMOKE, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN, AND I KNEW I NEEDED TO GET OFF THE ROAD AS TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY. AS I PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO THE PARKING LOT FOR THE STRIP MALL, THE CAR STALLED, LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH TO INDICATE THE CAR STALLED AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF. I COULD SMELL SMOKE AND I COULD SEE SMOKE GOING OUT THE CAR WINDOWS FROM INSIDE THE CAR AS I HAD THE WINDOWS OPEN A COUPLE OF INCHES. THERE WAS NO SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I DEBATED WHETHER TO CALL AAA OR 911. AS THE SMOKE INCREASED I CALLED 911. I THEN WENT TO THE CAR TO GET MY PURSE. WHEN I OPENED THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND I THOUGHT I COULD SEE FIRE IN THE MIDDLE ROW OF SEAT ON THE FLOOR. I OPENED THE BACK DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING UP FROM THE FLOOR 6 INCHES HIGH IN THE CENTER OF THE FLOOR. I TRIED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A SNOW SCRAPER WITH THE BRUSH END, BUT I WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. I ASKED THE DRY CLEANING LADY IF SHE HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. IT TOOK 30 SECONDS TO GET THE EXTINGUISHER AND ON MY WAY BACK TO THE CAR, I COULD SEE FLAMES UNDER THE CAR AND WHEN I OPENED THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR THE FIRE HAD SPREAD TO THE BACK SEAT. I WAS FEARFUL FOR HOW FAST THE FIRE SPREAD AND THE SMOKE PREVENTED ME FROM REACHING THE FIRE WITH THE EXTINGUISHER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THEN ARRIVED AND IT TOOK THEM 15-20 MINUTES TO PUT OUT THE FIRE AS THE FLAMES WERE SHOOTING AT LEAST 20 FEET INTO THE AIR. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was notified of an engine misfire. The spark plugs were replaced. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the brake pedal became stiff, and the vehicle failed to immediately stop. Additionally, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the spark plugs, and the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT THE PEDAL BEING PUSHED. 2005 FORD EXPEDITION HAS EXPERIENCED APPROXIMATELY 5 EPISODES WHERE IT HAS STALLED WITH NO NOTICE OR PRIOR INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 50K MILES AND HAPPENED MOST RECENTLY AS ABOUT 120K MILES. ON AT LEAST 2 OCCASIONS THE CENTER DASH INDICATED ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE. EACH TIME, THE TRUCK COULD BE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED AND WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY. THE ONLY COMMON CIRCUMSTANCE IS THAT THE TRUCK WAS COASTING TO A LOWER SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE WAS LOCATED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE NEAR THE FUEL TANK. THE FAILURE DESTROYED THE FUEL PUMP AND BLEW THE 15 AMP FUSE THAT ALLOWS THE FUEL PUMP TO FUNCTION. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PART WAS CURRENTLY ON BACK ORDER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 103,000.

THIS IS NOT CAUSED NATURALLY, THIS IS A FAILURE ON THE PART OF FORD AND THEIR QUALITY CONTROL. THE ALUMINUM UNDERNEATH WAS CONTAMINATED FROM THE FACTORY WITH IRON CAUSING CORROSION. WHILE KNOWING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, THEY FAILED TO ISSUE A RECALL.

THE PAINT IS PEELING ON THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR IN LARGE PATCHES FOR NO OBVIOUS REASONS INCLUDING RUST OR ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS LIKE BEING CLOSE TO SALT WATER. THE PEELING PAINT IS PRIMARILY ON THE BACK HATCH BUT ALSO SOME PAINT BUBBLING IS OCCURRING ON A FEW OTHER SMALL SPOTS ON THE VEHICLE. THERE IS ALSO EVIDENCE OF SIGNIFICANT LEAKS OF WATER INTO THE BODY BUT NO OBVIOUS POINTS OF ENTRY.

THE REPORTED MODEL WAS CRUISING AT 65 MILES AN HOUR ALONG NORTH BOUND I-795 @ NC RTE 42, WILSON, NC (STATE POLICE RESPONDED TO THIS DISABLED VEHICLE CALL) VEHICLE ACTED LIKE IT RAN OUT OF GAS. ELECTRICAL PROVEOUT INDICATORS WERE NORMAL. IGNITION SYSTEM WAS FUNCTIONAL, AS WERE ALL OTHER FACETS OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMED FINE DURING THE ENGINE POWER FAILURE, HOWEVER , LOSS OF STEERING POWER AND BRAKING POWER WAS EVIDENT AND PROMINENT. AFTER SAFELY COASTING OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER JUST PAST THE SAID INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. A FINAL DIAGNOSIS WAS PERFORMED AND WAS DETERMINED OF A RELAY CONTACT FAILURE. THIS RELAY IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE MAIN POWER DISTRIBUTION PANEL / FUSE BLOCK RIGHT OF THE PASSENGER FOOT WELL. MAKING THIS PART INTEGRAL TO THE POWER BLOCK MAKES IT EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AND MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE AS FAR AS A REASONABLE REPAIR TO A CRITICAL SYSTEM AND PLACES OTHER SYSTEMS AT RISK BY THE NATURE OF REPLACING THE ENTIRE POWER BLOCK TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM.. IE: THE FUEL PUMP. WHEN THIS RELAY CONTACT FAILS, POWER IS LOST TO THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVER'S REAR WHEEL WELL. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD A BEEPING NOISE AND THEN NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED. HE REMOVED THE BATTERY TERMINAL, RESET THE COMPUTER, CLEARED ALL CODES, REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION CENSOR, AND CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PREVIOUS FAILURES AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ME HUSBAND AND I OWN A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION XLT (V8 5.4L). THE TRUCK HAS CUT OFF ON US SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST TO WEEKS, WITHOUT WARNING! IT HAS EVEN CUT OFF ON US ON THE HIGHWAY. WE WERE TRAVELING 55MPH. WE HAVE FOUR SMALL CHILDREN THAT TRAVEL WITH US CONSTANTLY. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE TRUCK TO A MECHANIC, THINKING OH WE JUST NEED A TUNE UP. TWO OF THE SPARK PLUGS BROKE OFF INTO THE MOTOR HEAD. WE ENDED UP SPENDING $800 BUCKS TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND $150 BUCKS ON A VAN RENTAL. IN MY OPINION FORD SHOULD HANDLE THIS SITUATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IT IS A LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. 1.2005 FORD EXPEDITION AUGUST 8,2010: AROUND 12:45PM I STARTED MY CAR UP TO RUN TO MCDONALD'S TWO MINUTES AWAY FROM MY WORK. AS I PULLED OUT OF MCDONALD'S THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY GAS SO I PULLED INTO EXXON DOWN THE STREET TO FILL UP ON GAS. I PUT $15 OF GAS INTO THE TANK. WHEN I STARTED TO CAR UP IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED SHAKING VIGOROUSLY AND A STRONG SMELL OF GAS AND CLOUDY FUMES CAME FROM MY EXHAUST PIPE. I HAD TO GO BACK TO WORK SO I DROVE THE TWO MILES WHILE TO CAR STRONGLY SHOOK AND THE EXHAUST PIPE WAS PRODUCING A CLOUD OF SMOKE THAT SMELLED HEAVILY OF GAS. I GOT TO WORK AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND CHECKED MY OIL. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN ON MY CAR AGAIN AND WAS NOT ABLE TO GET MY CAR TO START AGAIN THAT DAY. WHEN HE CALLED US BACK HE SAID THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS THE PROBLEM AND HE AT THAT TIME HAD REPLACED IT ALREADY AND ADVISED US TO TAKE THE CAR TO FORD DUE TO THE FACT THE HE SAID THE MOTOR WAS DEAD AS WELL. WE THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO FORD IN FRANKLIN KENTUCKY. THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE FUEL INJECTOR AND THAT THE MOTOR FAILURE WAS DUE TO FUEL INJECTOR PROBLEMS. WAS DRIVING AND EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE, NO WARNING, WENT TO STOP AND HAD NO BRAKES WHAT SO EVER! THE BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT CALIPER HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY UNDER THE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE BETWEEN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE AND THE ABS DISTRIBUTION BOX. I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEMS WERE DESIGNED WITH A TANDEM MASTER CYLINDER SO THAT IF AN EVENT LIKE THIS HAPPENED YOU WOULD STILL HAVE 2 WHEELS THAT HAD BRAKES. THIS OBVIOUSLY IS NOT THE CASE AS THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF ALL 4 BRAKES. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY DOING 25 MPH AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC WHERE I WAS WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT TOOK A WAYS TO GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED BY APPLYING THE PARKING BRAKE. I DON'T WANT TO EVEN THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY DOING 70 MPH AND HAD TO STOP IN AN EMERGENCY AND THIS HAPPENED, I WOULD PROBABLY BE DEAD AND POSSIBLY SOMEONE ELSE ALSO. I HAVE TALKED TO A FEW OTHER OWNERS OF FORD EXPEDITIONS (LATER MODELS 2004-2008) AND THERE IS A DEFINITE ISSUE WITH RUST AND OTHER COMPONENTS RUSTING OUT. IT SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH RUST ESP WHEN THE BRAKE LINES ARE BASICALLY ALL RUSTED OUT IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO THE CROSS MEMBER FRAME UNDERNEATH HAS A LOT MORE THAN ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF RUST, NEVER SEEN THIS MUCH EVEN WITH A TRUCK I HAVE NOW A 1997 DODGE WITH 190,000 MILES DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO THE RUST I SEE WITH THE FORD. RUST BUBBLES ON THE REAR LIFT GATE HANDLE AREA AND JUST ABOUT ALL AROUND THE WINDOW AREAS AND THE HOOD. MIND YOU THAT THE TIME WE'VE HAD THE VEHICLE ONLY MAYBE A HANDFUL OF TIMES IT WAS OUT IN SNOW OR EVEN RAINY WEATHER - LOW MILES FOR THE YEAR 67,000/8 YEARS+. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A HEAVY VIBRATION FROM THE MOTOR AND THE SMELL OF RAW FUEL WAS PRESENT. AFTER TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER AND THE DEALER STATED THAT A FUEL INJECTOR BECAME STUCK OPEN. THE INJECTOR FILLED THE CYLINDER WITH FUEL AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BLOW UP (SEVERE DAMAGE). IT WAS FOUND THAT THIS OCCURRED ON FORD EXPEDITIONS NUMEROUS TIMES AND FORD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 11 YEARS, 120,000 MILES AND MY SCARY EXPERIENCE OCCURRED AT 129,000. I PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THE MOTOR AT MY OWN EXPENSE 2 YEARS PRIOR AND FORD DID NOT REPLACE THE INJECTORS OR NOTIFY ME OF AN INJECTOR ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE CENTER LANE ON RT 41 IN PORT CHARLOTTE, WITH AN APPROXIMATE SPEED OF 45 MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE JUST SHUT DOWN. STRONG SMELL OF "BURNING" BRAKE PADS WAS NOTED. ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT VEHICLE INTO AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION POSITION OF NEUTRAL. NO CHANGE IN ENGINE SPEED NOTED. TRANSMISSION THEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. VEHICLE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND VEHICLE SKIDDED APPROXIMATELY 100 - 150 FEET BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. ANTILOCK SYSTEM AND OTHER SYSTEMS DID NOT ACTIVATE. AFTER COMING TO A STOP, THROTTLE PEDAL WAS INSPECTED. NO INTERIOR INTERFERENCE FROM FLOOR MATS OR OTHER MATERIALS NOTED. OPERATOR IS 100% CERTAIN AS A RESULT OF "REAL-TIME" VISUAL CONFIRMATION, THAT ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS WERE NOT MISTAKENLY ENGAGED OR DUALLY ENGAGED. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED AND MAINTAINED REGULARLY AND WITH PRECISION AND DETAIL. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY POST THE INCIDENT. THROTTLE BODY FOUND TO BE FOULED AND DIRTY. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC IS REASONABLY CERTAIN THAT DIRTY THROTTLE BODY IS MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF THIS EVENT. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HAS PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE OF SIMILAR THROTTLE BODY FAILURES PRODUCING SIMILAR EVENTS AS HAS BEEN DESCRIBED ABOVE. IN AUGUST 2006 I INCURRED A BRAKING PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER AND HAD IT CHECKED OUT. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS AND MACHINED THE FRONT ROTORS. PROBLEM SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN RESOLVED. THEN LAST WEEK ON FEB. 14TH WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MI/HOUR AS I BROKE THE VEHICLE GROANED, SHUDDERED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY SOFT. AFTER SEVERAL PUMPS I WAS ABLE TO GET THE BRAKES BACK. UPON DRIVING A LITTLE FURTHER IT DID IT AGAIN. THEN WE RESUMED USING THE VEHICLE UNTIL SUN. FEB. 18TH WHEN THE SAME THING OCCURRED WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND BEGAN TO BRAKE AT THE APPROXIMATE SPEED OF 20 MI/HOUR. WE RETURNED OUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED OUT. THEY SAID THEY RAN A FULL BATTERY OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND FOUND THE VEHICLE TO BE FREE OF PROBLEMS. WE FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT LOSES ITS ABILITY TO BRAKE. WE REALIZE THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT AS FAR AS FAIRWAY FORD IS CONCERNED WE NEED TO CONTINUE DRIVING UNTIL IT DOES IT OFTEN ENOUGH THAT THEY CAN PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. SINCE PURCHASING THE EXPEDITION IN DECEMBER 2014, I'VE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF "CHECK ENGINE THROTTLE" WARNINGS AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, SUDDENLY. THIS SEEMS TO ALSO HAVE A SECONDARY ISSUE OF THE TRUCK HESITATING/SPUTTERING AROUND 40-50MPH. THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT DOWN ON ME IN CITY TRAFFIC QUITE A FEW TIMES AND ONCE ON AN EXIT RAMP OF THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO EXPERIENCE. THE DEALER MENTIONED POSSIBLE SPARK PLUG ISSUES. WHEN THE "CHECK ENGINE" ICON FINALLY CAME ON, I HAD IT READ BY THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CODE IS A P2104. THE DEALER NEVER GOT BACK TO ME ON A REMEDY FOR THIS. THE MECHANIC SAYS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL MUST BE REPLACED AND COULD BE THE CAUSE OF BOTH ISSUES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS AND CONSTANTLY SHUTS OFF AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON EIGHT OCCASIONS FOR THE FAILURES. IN JANUARY OF 2008, THE DIAGNOSTIC INDICATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND IT WAS REPLACED. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED ON JUNE 1, 2008 WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT SPENT $2,400 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2005. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,000.

OUR 2005 FORD EXPEDITION HAS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING TWICE NOW. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM MISSOURI TO VIRGINIA AFTER THE HOLIDAYS IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR. WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN THE CAR JUST STOPPED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WAS DRIVING DOWN A 4 LANE HEAVY TRAFFIC ROAD IN FAIR WEATHER CONDITIONS AROUND 45 MPH WHEN VEHICLE MAINTENANCE LIGHT "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" CAME ON AND COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ANY DRIVING POWER TO MY VEHICLE. I WAS NOT EVEN ABLE TO ACCELERATE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I WAS DRIVING WITH A 3 YEAR OLD AND I AM ALSO 6 MONTHS PREGNANT. I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AT CRAIG AND I-15. THIS IS KNOWN TO HAVE A GREEN LIGHT, YET THE TRAFFIC WILL SUDDENLY STOP INSTEAD OF A STEADY FLOW. I WAS DRIVING MY FORD EXPEDITION THAT I PURCHASED LESS THAN 2 WEEKS BEFORE. SUDDENLY THE TRAFFIC STOPPED, I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I NOTICED THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. I ENDED UP HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I GOT CITED FOR GOING TOO FAST FOR THE CONDITION OF THE TRAFFIC. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW TO ME, I DID NOT NOTICE THE PROBLEM UNTIL A MONTH LATER, ALTHOUGH I QUESTIONED HOW I COULD HAVE THIS COLLISION AFTER SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES AS I DID. AFTER THE VEHICLE GOT OUT OF THE SHOP, I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AND NOTICED THE ACCELERATION INCREASING. FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE FAILED DUE TO DESIGN FLAW WHICH CAUSED GALVANIC CORROSION. ALUMINUM BODY OF COMPONENT ACTS AS THE SACRIFICIAL ANODE FOR THE FRAME WHICH IS STEEL. THIS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO STALL AT 65MPH AND LOSE POWER AND THUS CAUSED THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER WHILE TRAVELING A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS COULD BE ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON HIGHWAYS, CONGESTED AREAS, OR AREAS WITH PEDESTRIANS SUCH AS SCHOOLS. I HAVE ALSO NOTIFIED FORD OF THIS PROBLEM.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT FAILED AND EMITTED HOT AIR FROM THE VENTS WHEN ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES WHERE THE BLENDER DOOR ACTUATOR, COMPRESSOR, AND CONTROL PANEL WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER EDITION WHEN I STARTED TO MAKE A TURN. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STOPPED MOVING AND AN INDICATOR LIGHT STATING "ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE" CAME ON. DURING THE TURN, A VEHICLE WAS COMING TOWARD ME AND I BARELY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO GET MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE LANE BEFORE I GOT HIT. IT WAS A LIFE THREATENING MOMENT FOR MY FAMILY AND I AS A TRUCK THAT WAS ON COMING FROM BEHIND WITH SPEED HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER NOT TO COLLIDE WITH ME SINCE I HAD NO POWER TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE A 2005 EXPEDITION AND HAVE HAD A ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL FAILURE ON IT TWICE IN THE LAST 10 MONTHS. I HAVE A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION LIMITED. MY COMPLAINT IS THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN AND YOU LOOSE ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN AT SPEEDS OF 55+ MPH AS WELL AS SPEEDS OF APPROX LESS THAN 10 MPH, SUCH AS WHILE IN A PARKING LOT. THIS PROBLEM STARTED IN THE SUMMER OF 2009, AND HAS HAPPENED EVERY MONTH SINCE, SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE MONTH. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE IT TESTED AND WERE TOLD IT WAS A TPS SENSOR. THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED ($75.00) BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS AND IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 EXPEDITIONS. I PERSONALLY KNOW OF 2 OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED, ONE OF WHICH HAS HAD IT REPLACED TWICE NOW. THIS IS A HUGE CONCERN SINCE YOU DO LOOSE ALL POWER AND HAVE TO TRY TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHILE TRYING TO AVOID BEING HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. MY CONCERN IS THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE RESULT WILL BE A ACCIDENT WHILE TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE REPAIR COST FOR JUST THE PARTS IS $600.00, BUT THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE LABOR. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE DOES DIE OR IS SERIOUSLY INJURED, AS IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. IT COST 700 DOLLARS EVERYTIME THIS PART GOES OUT. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO KEEP GETTING THIS REPAIRED? THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE (ELECTRIC THROTTLE). I BOUGHT MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION IN MARCH 2007 WITH 21K MILES ON IT. WE ARE THE OWNERS OF A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION XLT. IN AUGUST 2006 I INCURRED A BRAKING PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER AND HAD IT CHECKED OUT. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS AND MACHINED THE FRONT ROTORS. PROBLEM SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN RESOLVED. GEORGE NEWCOMB LANDERS MCLARTY 2609 SOUTH WALTON BENTONVILLE, AR 72712 I PURCHASED A 2005 EXPEDITION FROM YOU A FEW WEEKS AGO. ON 11-23-05 I BROUGHT IT OVER TO HAVE SOME DEFECTS REPAIRED. DEFECTS THAT WERE TO BE FIXED. TRANSMISSION. WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL IF YOU REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL OUT OF CONTROL. THIS HAPPENS IF YOU ARE STOPPED WITH THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE GOING DOWN A HILL OF IN DRIVE GOING UP A HILL. THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT AT ODD TIMES AS YOU ARE DRIVING. REAR PASSENGER DOME LIGHT FLICKERS WHEN YOU TURN IN ON WITH THE SWITCH IN THE BACK. RIGHT TURN SIGNAL FLASHES VERY FAST. TIRES ARE VERY BAD OUT OF BALANCE. DRIVER DOOR DOES NOT LATCH UNLESS IT IS SHUT HARD. I TOLD JESSE THAT THEY HAD TO BE DONE BY 5:00 PM. AFTER KEEPING THE VEHICLE ALL DAY NOTHING WAS FIXED. DURING MY VISIT IN YOUR OFFICE ON 12-9-05 YOU ASSURED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE REPLACED. YOU ALSO STATED THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE BAD TIRES AND WOULD REPLACE THEM NOW THAT I HAD COMPLAINED. IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE THE FOLLOWING NEW DEFECTS HAVE BEEN FOUND. TURN SIGNALS WILL SOMETIMES NOT WORK AT ALL. WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN THE REAR END WILL SLIP. YOU CAN FILL IT NOT HOLDING THE ROAD. OUTSIDE FUMES ARE SUCKED INTO THE VEHICLE. ANY SMELL OR EXHAUST FROM THIS OR OTHER VEHICLES IS PULLED INSIDE. THE LEATHER ON THE FRONT SEATS HAS TURNED BLACK. THE TRANSMISSION, REAR END PROBLEM AND TIRES ARE ALL MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEMS. THESE MUST BE FIXED. I FEEL THAT HAVING MY WIFE DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH THESE PROBLEMS IS PUTTING HER IN DANGER. THE TURN SIGNALS AND LIGHT PROBLEM ARE POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARDS. THE UNCONTROLLED AIR INTAKE IS A PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE PEOPLE INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO BE GASSED BY A PASSING VEHICLE. MY WIFE HAS VERY BAD ALLERGIES WHEN THESE SMELLS ARE PULLED INTO THE VEHICLE SHE HAS TROUBLE BREATHING. I HAVE NEVER OWNED ANYTHING MADE FROM LEATHER THAT HAS CHANGED COLORS. *NM
