In March, 2024, as part of a mandatory Ford and NHTSA safety recall for a leaking master cylinder, we had our Ford Expedition serviced at Lugoff Ford, Lugoff, SC to replace the faulty brake parts. Ford Recall Reference: 22S11/22S11D - NHTSA Reference: 22V-150. At the time of the recall and replacement there was no indication of the master cylinder leaking. On [XXX] our brakes failed on a trip necessitating an emergency brake repair. The servicing shop found evidence that the master cylinder had failed, leaking brake fluid - the exact safety issue that the recall and repair in March 2024 was to fix. We are formally reporting this incident as a potential failure of a manufacturer's recall remedy. That a Ford-mandated safety repair failed in this manner indicates that the replacement parts or the repair procedures specified in the recall campaign are highly likely to be inadequate. This poses a significant risk to the thousands of other Ford Expedition owners who have had this recall service performed, as they may be unknowingly operating vehicles with a latent defect. We urge you to investigate the effectiveness of this recall and determine if other owners have experienced similar premature failures post-repair. This situation is unacceptable. A safety recall should increase a vehicle owner's confidence in their vehicle, not introduce a new failure point. We trusted Ford to correct a known defect, and that trust was broken. Repair due to recall miles: approx 150,000 Failure of brake system due to replaced part failure: approx 163,000 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My wife was driving the vehicle. While attempting to stop, the brakes failed. The brake warning light came on and alarmed. She was not able to stop safely without using the parking brake. Brake fluid was gone and completely drained into the brake booster. My family was completely at risk. Thankfully there were no injuries or damage. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealership. The dealership diagnosed it as brake fluid pumping from brake cylinder into brake booster.

brake master cylinder fluid leaked into the brake booster causing complete brake failure.
Aug 18, 2025
brakes were functional at time of parking suv. upon reentering and starting vehicle, the add brake fluid light and alert came on. the brake peddle was non existent with feel. the brake reservoir was empty but no visual leaks from any of the brake calipers or lines were evident. after refilling the brake master cylinder to the full line. the fluid again drained to an unknown location with no visual leaks.

On [XXX], My 2017 Ford Expedition suddenly lost all brake fluid in the master cylinder, where it drained into the Brake Booster. We had no braking function whatsoever. I filled up with another quart of brake fluid, drained into brake booster as well. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer in Lagrange, GA, where the work was completed on 7/8/2024. I was preparing to drive my family home to FL when we noticed the issue. We had to stay an extra night in the hotel. Thank goodness we had not been on the road and were only leaving the hotel. There is already a recall for the same issue, with vehicles made through 1/31/2017. My vehicle, by VIN, was made on 2/3/2017 at the same plant. Ford is refusing to acknowledge the issue. Back up camera goes dark when we back up but it doesn't do it when I had it in the dealership they say I need a new camera but it started when you all put out a recall.

Rear blower motor caught on fire, causing smoke to cover the inside of the vehicle. Part had to then be removed from the car. Melted plastic around the inside of the fan and motor. Also we have replaced the blower motive in the front of the vehicle that was under recall and it has continued to let's burn wires underneath the dash whete it plugs in so i dont believe the blower motor in front was the issue!

My 2017 Ford Expedition is experiencing the exact same rear backup camera problem as described in recall number 25V315000; however, the recall issued is not wide enough to cover all the affected cars. The recall should be expanded to cover 2017 Expeditions as well.

The transmission suddenly downshifted to 1st gear while traveling at 45 mph with no warning. This created a very dangerous and life threatening occurence.
Oct 31, 2025
The vehicle has not been inspected by anybody so the problem is not been reproduced. It just happened this morning. There have not been any check engine lights or anything related pop up on the dash. I was leaving my house I just reached highway speeds 50 to 60 miles per hour I was in 5th or 6th Gear. The transmission suddenly downshifted on its own to first gear it downshifted so hard and so fast that it barked the tires really hard the RPMs went up to 5 to 6,000 I thought that it had somehow been hit into reverse or park or something I am the only one in the vehicle. I shift the vehicle into neutral and then I went back down to manual and cycled up and down a gear and then put it back in Drive.

Truck first would shift out of park but would not engage into a gear causing it to roll unexpectedly in the downhill driveway. Problem self corrected with a few ignition cycles. Week later truck became inoperable at a stop light and require shut down and restart and traffic. Same day truck would not start at all after returning home. Dealer diagnosed 6r80 transmission with molded lead frame assembly failure. This has been subject of a recall or customer satisfaction program for earlier year models but not beyond 2013.

TSB 23-2143, citing cold-start cam phaser rattle as a manufacturing defect that impacts reliability and safety (loss of power, premature wear, noise).
Jul 11, 2025
While driving, the speedometer began to bounce around. This caused erratic shifting. At one point the speedometer went to zero while we were still moving. I pulled over put it in park and it would not go into gear. During this the air bag light came on. After turning the vehicle off and back on again, everything went back to normal. Over a period of days, it would do the same thing again, but not as bad as the time listed above. The speedometer will bounce around while driving and cause moderate shifting issues. I took the vehicle into a shop, and they ran the code as being Output Speed Sensor. After research, it appears Ford had a recall on output speed sensors for 2014 F-150 vehicles (Recall Reference Number 24S37) which use the 6R80 transmission. I contacted my local Ford dealership and Ford corporate via chat, and both told me my 2017 Expedition was not covered under that recall. Since my vehicle uses the same transmission, I inquired as to what they did to fix the output speed sensor issue. They could not provide me with that information. I have several videos of the speedometer bouncing around, but am unable to upload them here.

When shifted into park the "Park" function wouldn't engage, therefore the vehicle never registered as in park. Making the remote start not function and the warning chimes continuously ding marking a malfunction and the door locks would not engage correctly. So I never knew if the vehicle was actually in park or would roll. I engaged my parking brake every time I parked just in case the vehicle wasn't in actual Park mode. I took the vehicle to my dealership for repair on 8/15/25 and the gear shift was completely replaced to remedy the issue. Costing me approximately $1,200. There were no warning lights to alert me, only the door chiming faster and differently, marking the error occurring. The problem was first noticed in May 2025, but not diagnosed until August 2025, when we had the finances to get the repair completed. Jul 26, 2025
Backpack camera goes out, is distorted or unavailable. Vehicle has been to the local dealership twice for repair but still does not work.
Jul 11, 2025
The rear-view camera on my 2017 Ford Expedition is malfunctioning. When I shift into reverse, the rear-view image appears, but once I finish reversing and shift into Drive, the image does not go away. The reverse camera feed remains frozen on the screen, even while driving forward. To clear it, I have to manually put the vehicle into Park and then back into Drive. This has to be done nearly every time I reverse, which is a distraction and a potential safety risk while operating the vehicle. I’ve read that Ford recently issued a recall involving over 200,000 vehicles for a similar issue caused by a fault in the SYNC infotainment system. My vehicle has experienced this exact problem for years, but my VIN does not appear to be part of that recall. The issue occurs almost every time I use reverse - causing the camera to stay on the screen of the Rear-view camera system / SYNC infotainment system Please investigate whether this issue is broader than currently recalled. This malfunction compromises safe operation of the vehicle and should be addressed by Ford.

The back up camera is severely distorted or unavailable completely 95% of the time. It was replaced under an extended warranty and less than a month later began having the exact same issue. Our dog was not seen laying under the car due to not having a back up camera and was run over and died as a result. We have four small children and this is a huge issue and has been happening since we purchased the vehicle.

Coolant leaked into the starter causing the vehicle to not start. The EcoBoost seems to be a major issue for Ford, and this most recent issue should be covered under a recall.

My engine in my expedition overheated on dec 14,2024. It is being repaired now. I was left Stranded on a busy highway for 2hrs waiting on a wrecker. The whole engine is bad. Everything is full of oil. Itis being replaced right now at a total of 11,000$,by an independent ford mechanic . I know of three other people with this engine in my area that the same thing has happened to. There were no lights or warning signs ofany trouble. I have a receipt for the engine but the replacement cost wont be ready until next week. Ive contacted Ford and had a feedback case sent to them and plan to write a letter to Ford consumers affairs .

We were on vacation and on our way back to the hotel from hiking on our last night in North Carolina. The check engine light came on and the car started sputtering and the accelerator would not work. We were slowing down and the car just would not go. We put it in park and turned the car off and sat there for 10 minutes. We turned the car back on and and then the wrench light came on. We had to keep turning the car on and off for the last 5 miles of the drive home which took us over an hour with letting the car cool off and turning it back on. When we did manage to go, we could only drive 25 mph. This was on a holiday weekend. We had to pay another $150 to stay where we were to get the car towed to the dealership. We then had to wait for the dealership to open to take the car and fix the problem which then cost me $800. Now prior to even going on vacation, I had the car completely checked over and service done. Nevermind, that the warranty had just expired on it. But who thought that with actually taking care of your car, it would break down and as soon as weeks after the warranty is up. I looked online and saw that this issue has been an ongoing issue for thousands of other Ford Expeditions. I would like my money back and this to be recalled. I've attached all the paperwork. It is due to an inoperable throttle sensor where the throttle then fails to work. Please recall this issue and have them return my money.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while the tires were being rotated, the tire technician was unable to remove the lug nuts because the lug nuts had swollen. The contact was informed that all four wheels had the same failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
Aug 19, 2024
The factory Ford lug nuts have "swollen" so that the 2 piece "cap" has detached from the actual nut preventing me from removal or properly tightening the lug nut to the wheel. In the even of a flat tire, this would be impossible to change along the highway.
May 01, 2023
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's side front tire became flat. The contact pulled to the side of the road to replace the driver's side front tire; however, she was unable to remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench. AAA arrived on the scene but was also unable to remove the lug nuts. AAA informed the contact that the aluminum caps on the lug nuts prevented the lug wrench from removing the lug nuts. The vehicle was towed to a tire repair specialist where twenty-four lug nuts were replaced. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was a wear and tear issue. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

We were out of town driving to a baseball tournament going 80 miles an hour when the car completely lost power and a wrench came up. My husband barely coasted us to a shoulder. The car would not reset or restart unless it was in park. Happens twice. Took it for code read they said it is a throttle body issue but that instead of check engine light it shuts the whole car down until reset. Very scary on the interstate. Could have easily been in a bad collision.
Aug 05, 2024
While travelling on highway uphill around 60 mph in heavy traffic, vehicle lost all power and went to idle. I had to maneuver 3 lanes to reach shoulder. Wrench icon showed on dash. Restarted engine and code cleared and had power again. It happened 4 more times over next 2 months then gave P2112 code. Research showed to replace throttle body which I did. Now doing some watchful waiting to see if it reoccurs. I believe this is a safety gap that requires a recall and a redesign of the logic to prevent the disabling the power train all the way back to idle.

while driving on the 58 freeway in the fast lane amongst semi trucks my expedition lost power and had no acceleration, i was forced to the left shoulder of the freeway putting my family and i in danger. while stopped i had no response from my gas peddle but the engine was still on and a wrench appeared on my dash lights. i turned off the car and when i restarted it the car worked again and the wrench was gone. very very very dangerous
Apr 24, 2023
Throttle body and motor assembly failed at only 33,000 miles. Vehicle suddenly lost power and wrench light immediately illuminated on the dash. Vehicle had to be towed to local Ford dealership for repair. This created a very dangerous situation as the vehicle was currently being operated on a congested interstate on-ramp entering the highway with a very narrow shoulder / emergency lane. A vehicle accident & fatality could have easily occurred given this dangerous situation. Unfortunately this throttle body mechanical failure is a very common issue across many Ford vehicle platforms and the NHTSA has done the American consumer a disservice by allowing Ford to continue repairing these vehicles only when the throttle body unit fails. Instead the NHSTA should be forcing Ford to pre-emptively recall these vehicles and replace the faulty throttle bodies before more unnecessary fatalities occur.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Driving vehicle on road and car lost all acceleration power. The check engine light appeared and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. This exact same issue has been identified as a recall item with an extended warranty (ten years or 150,000 miles) on other Ford vehicles but for some unknown reason the 2017 expedition is not covered. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE... I did speak to Ford and they offered no assistance.
Mar 18, 2025
Vehicle was jerking and a wrench illuminated on panel. Was able to get out of traffic to side of road but very dangerous as we had to just coast to safety. Took vehicle to dealership...code threw for throttle active stuck. This happened on March 23, 2022. Than again on July 23, 2022, was on interstate and wrench illuminated and again stalled. 75 Mph traffic and thank goodness we was able to clear traffic to side of road. Limped home. 1st incident mileage was 118395. And second incident 128024.3

The electronic throttle body gets stuck closed. The engine stalls or goes into limp mode. At highway speed I then have to try and navigate a dead car to the shoulder or am stuck in the middle lane with cars going past at 70+ mph. This is a known defect in fords engine and other years/models are recalled. 2017 Ford Expedition needs to be added immediately. This is dangerous.

WHILE GETTING ON INTERSTATE MY 2017 EXPEDITION EL 4X4 WAS SHIFTING AND COMING UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED , WHEN IT SEEMED TO RUN ROUGH AND FELT LIKE IT MISSED A SHIFT. I LET OFF GAS PEDAL, ENGINE ROUGHNESS TEMPORARILY WENT AWAY. NOW I'M GETTING CLOSER TO GETTING ON HIGHWAY , APPLIED GAS AGAIN AND ENGINE GOT ROUGH RUNNING AGAIN AND TOOL SYMBOL APPEARED ON DASH . I LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND POWER TO WHEELS WHILE TRYING TO ENTER AN INTERSTATE. VERY DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING IF I DID NOT HAVE A LONG SHOULDER TO PULL OFF ON. PULLED OVER STOPPED ENGINE. I was in a motor vehicle accident where someone pulled out of a parking lot in front of me. I was doing about 45 at the time(which is the speed limit) on that road. I seen it coming but all I could do was try to veer right in order not to hit her door head on. Ours cars are totaled. My air bag never deployed out of the steering wheel however er I did see dust or smoke. This caused me to have chest pain and shoulder and neck pain. Which I am seeking doctors at this time.

Our car experienced a failed Throttle Body Assembly. While driving our car, the engine would lose power, and the car would start to violently shake. The wrench light would come on the dash. We would have to pull over whether we were on the highway or a city street. Once we turned the car off and back on the wrench light would disappear. We took the car to our mechanic who could not figure out the issue due to no codes. The Ford dealership told us the same thing as our mechanic - without a code(s) it would take a lot of time and money to figure out the problem. Finally after several (at least 5 time) scary occurrences of this issue, the engine light came on and gave a code. We fixed the issue on June 23, 2022.

Electronic throttle body will go into a limp mode and has no power to accelerate. This happens while driving down the street or highway and you might have enough power to pull to side of the road or street and not get run over. I have seen other reports of this and Ford extended their warranty on some vehicles to 10 years or 150,000 miles. These are mainly the eco boost motors. My vehicle has 88,000 miles and is regularly serviced. One occurrence was on a road under construction with no place to pull over quickly when this happened.
Nov 21, 2023
While driving my children, my 2017 Ford Expedition lost power and went into 'limp' mode (wrench appears on the dash) along with an incredibly rough idle. This is at least the 3rd time that this has happened (twice before replacing the current throttle bottle) and now. This is incredibly dangerous as the vehicle loses power and leaves my family and I at the mercy of other drivers around us. It has happened on a 6 lane freeway, a 2 lane highway, and, most recently, on a city street. After a very quick search of the internet, it is no secret that there are throttle body problems with 2017 Ford Expeditions. Ford is responsible for manufacturing a vehicle that is safe and free of mechanical defects. While some problems do arise unexpectedly, it is ignorant of Ford to continue to put passengers in harms way until an injury or death happens when there is a known issue.

Wife started car. Pushed on the brake to put it in gear. Brake pedal went to floor. Checked master cylinder. Cylinder was completely empty. Brake fluid leaked past seals in master cylinder into the brake booster, then got sucked into engine and burned. No warning lights came on at all.. Luckily wife was at the pool down the road from our house when it happened. She drove 5 mph back to the house. A four year car should not have a faulty brake master cylinder. Master cylinders should last for at least 10 years. Ford has a major problem brewing.

something burning in truck and then the front blower ceased working. Now I know why - many owners reporting same things and this repair should be covered, or recall expanded to include these additional repairs if needed due to the excessive heat from the blower motor. This could have very easily caused a vehicle fire while I was driving, and we could have been seriously injured. 2) rear back up camera failure due to poor seal around camera and lack of waterproofing of camera electronics causing corrosion and failure. Problem clearly seen in attached video ( not my car but same exact issue) Again, many other owners experiencing same issue. This is a safety hazard as camera suddenly failed while I was reversing and caused a near miss of a pedestrian. Camera components need to be waterproofed and sealed better - there is clearly water leaking into the rear door panel causing corrosion as indicated by dealer. SINCE THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON 3.5L ENGINES I BELIEVE THIS IS A MATTER OF DEALER NOT BEING ABLE TO GET PAID FROM FORD RATHER THAN NOT BEING ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. 60K EMISSION WARRANTY APPLIES VEHICLE MILEAGE 53K. Driving through a mile-long tunnel on an interstate highway (speed limit 55 mph), the vehicle ceased to respond to the gas pedal and would not accelerate or maintain speed. Attempted to shift gears but that produced no change - it was as if the transmission was stuck in neutral, but pushing the gas pedal did not increase the rpm. As we exited the tunnel at approximately 30 mph, the driver attempted to pull over and stop the vehicle, and found that the power assist for the brakes was not working, making stopping difficult - the driver had to push the brakes very hard, multiple times, to stop the car. We did contact 911 dispatch when we thought we were going to likely impede traffic, as the tunnel only had two lanes traveling the same direction. However, no intervention was required as we reached the end of the tunnel and were able to pull over before the call was completed. The vehicle was towed to a dealership and they diagnosed a fuel pump and/or fuel pump module problem, but have ceased to respond to our calls for the past 48 hours, so we have no further information. The check engine light turned on when the car was restarted, but then later turned off, without any repair work having been completed.

Car stops accelerating at various speeds on numerous occasions, and cannot get vehicle to propel. No propulsion occurs. Must bring vehicle to complete stop, turn off, and turn back before it will accelerate. Large wrench appears on screen, but disappears after the car is restarted. Safety issue because you cannot maintain speed or accelerate, was almost rear-ended and created potential accident trying to pull vehicle over. Took two visits to the authorized dealer to diagnose the problem as their was no "code" apparent to dealer, and was almost rear ended in between those visits. Vehicle owner quickly googled problem and noticed that N. Carolina Consumers Council had successfully petitioned NHTSA for this issue on other Fords, but that recall appears not to have included these Expeditions. Dealer replaced the throttle body.

My Expedition was set to 45 mph via cruise control in a work zone, at night, on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. While in the first tunnel in the northbound lane with 2 way traffic, I heard a slight pop, then rough running feeling and completely lost acceleration. The power train wrench warning light came on. Since I was on an incline in the tunnel with no way to pull over and the vehicle was going forward at a snail's pace, I decided to continue as far as I could since it was the safest thing to do for all drivers in the tunnel. The Expedition finally crept out of the tunnel and I was able to pull off to the side to let traffic pass. As soon as we had cell phone service, I had my daughter call the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to let them know that we were disabled and in need of assistance. I decided to see what would happen if I turned the vehicle off and restarted. Everything reset and I had power, but for how long? The CBBT police agreed that the safest course of action for all vehicles on the road was to tow my vehicle to the other side as it is dangerous to breakdown on the CBBT, especially in one of the tunnels. I was able to drive home after the tow. However, the following day, I tried to drive it again and it did the same: ran rough, wrench sign, no pop that time, total loss of acceleration. Restarted and made it back home. My husband tested it a few days later after re-cleaning battery cable terminals that had been corroded before we replaced the factory battery, and it did the same thing with him on the highway! If we had been trying to get into traffic, turn where we had to cross traffic or any number of other situations and the Expedition lost power like that, the outcome could be deadly. The CBBT would have records since they towed me and wrote the VIN down.

I WAS DRIVING TO A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WITH OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER ISSUE WHICH NEEDED CORRECTING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CARS ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT NO ACCELERATION. I MANAGED TO GET OFF THE ROAD, WITHOUT BEING HIT, AND CONTINUED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED BUT THEY BLAMED THE INCIDENT ON A BAD BATTERY AND I THOUGHT THE ISSUE WAS FIXED. THIS IS WHERE THE ISSUE BECOMES CATASTROPHIC IN MY OPINION. ON NOVEMBER 1, 2020 MY WIFE AND TWO FRIENDS WERE IN THE VEHICLE AND HEADING OUT OF TOWN. WE LIVE IN A MOUNTAINOUS PART OF ARIZONA. FORTUNATELY WE WERE ON A FAIRLY LEVEL STRETCH AND IN THE RIGHT LANE. THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATOR AGAIN FAILED TO FUNCTION. WE PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO THE SHOULDER. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, RESTARTED THE CAR AND TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK HOME, ABOUT A 120 MILE DETOUR. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM DO A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY DETERMINED IT TO BE A FAILED THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE TURNED OUT MUCH WORSE. HAD WE BEEN PASSING A TRUCK, CAUGHT IN THE LEFT LANE AND ON A STEEP GRADE WITH NO ACCELERATION, WHO KNOWS THE OUTCOME. I CONTACTED FORD FOR THEM TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF THE THROTTLE BODY REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. THEY DID COVER THAT COST, BUT I ALSO ASKED THEM TO GIVE ME AN ASSURANCE THE REPLACEMENT PART WOULD NOT DO THE SAME FAILURE AFTER SO MANY MILES. BY THE WAY OUR VEHICLE ONLY HAD 55K MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS FAILURE (BAD SENSOR) OCCURS WITH FREQUENCY IN SIMILAR VEHICLES. IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE SCENARIO I MENTIONED ABOVE, WHO WOULD KNOW IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR THAT FAILED, RATHER THAN A DRIVER ERROR. IT IS A FAILURE THAT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC, AND PROBABLY HAS BEEN WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES. I ASKED FORD WHY THIS WASN'T A RECALL ACTION, NO RESPONSE. WHERE IS THE NHTSA?

For 1.5+ years, the transmission will unexpectedly and suddenly downshift into 1st gear without warning. Which causes a sudden deceleration. No warning lights before it happens. It occurs randomly and at different speeds. It has happened over 20 times. I've experienced it happening at speed ranging from 35mph to 65mph. The gear shifter was in the drive position each time this issue occurred. The suv is the 2017 ford expedition EL with the 3.5L ecoboost engine with 6 speed automatic transmission. No check engine light before or after the issue (so no OBD2 code to read) a big yellow warning appears during/after saying "see manual". Sometimes the issue will resolve in a few seconds. The suv has not been to the dealership yet for this issue. But i will be contacting ford today.

In 2022, around mileage of 67000, our SUV was climbing a steep road when it suddenly made a pop sound & went into limp mode with the wrench light showing and the engine sounding rough. It felt like no fuel was getting to the engine & the gas pedal was non-responsive. The RPMs didn't change when the gas pedal was pressed. The grade was so steep, we barely made it to the side of the road without rolling backwards into traffic behind us. After turning the engine off and sitting about 10 mins, we tried starting the engine again. The car seemed to have reset itself! It ran fine; the wrench light turned off, and the gas pedal was responsive again. (At the time, we were on vacation at the coast and had traveled from our home at about elevation 3500'. We had also recently had to buy gas from a small no name gas station, so we feared we may have gotten bad fuel). From there, we returned home without re-occurrence, and we used fuel cleaning additive to our Chevron fuel for the next 2 fill ups. Then, approximately 600 miles later on a flat grade, it happened again without the pop sound. We immediately went to our Ford dealer who found no error code but found our purge valve stuck open. They recommended we replace it, which we did, and we operated the vehicle for 2 years without re-occurrence and using only Chevron gas. Recently, it happened again! Luckily, we weren't on a steep grade this time or on the freeway, but if a car would have been behind us, we would have likely been rear ended, especially had we been on the freeway. Once again, we shut the engine off, and it reset with the wrench light disappearing, so no diagnostic code got thrown AGAIN! Based on many complaints, this appears to be a common problem. It's very dangerous as the car immediately losses power to a crawl no matter what speed you are traveling at the time. It seems to be the electronic throttle body in instances where the SUV can stay running, so a code can be obtained before it resets.

This issue has happened multiple times, once on the highway the vehicle felt like it lost gear/ the engine completely cut off. multiple warning lights came on such as airbag, ABS, engine light. was eventually able to get to the shoulder and after multiple attempts it started back up, showed no warning lights. drove the rest of the way fine. another time that could have put other at risk is when driving in the city, the vehicle lost power and also lost the ability to stee. causing me to be standstill in the roadway. the vehicle started back up after two attempts. the vehicle has been to the local deal a total of 4 times with the last time requesting a through inspection of the grounds, as this seems like an electrical or mechanical issue the service manager requesting me "not to bring it back until it's broken" leaves me lost.

This vehicle has 5 star safety rating and that was considered in my purchase. I purchased Ford in Oct 2016, new. It was always serviced by Ford dealer here. This vehicle does not deserve 5 star rating.

I've received several letters about Motor Vehicle safety since last year. I contacted the Ford dealership last year for it, and instead of fixing my car, they hit it while waiting in the dealer, so they focus more on fixing the hood that was damage and body of the car, and pressured me to sign a document to agree to fix it, while I had my husband at the hospital in ICU. But, the recall problem was never fixed, they said because they didn't have the part. Something in the engine was damage, so i had to take the car almost every month to try to fix it. I kept getting letters about the recall, and they kept saying that the part was ordered and they were going to call me when ready. Never did. Last week around August 25 i received another recall letter. I added in my to DOs to call, as a single mom now, its a little difficult, so i could not call during the week, and Sunday 8/26 while I was driving my car with my children, we could hear a weird noise, then smell of smoke, and some smoke coming from the front AC blower, then the AC stopped working. I contacted the dealership this morning, and I was asked to bring the car, that they have the part ready (Which i never was notified before), so I dropped my kids in school and took the car to the dealership, after waiting for more than 2hrs, they said they part wasn't good, and they couldn't get it fixed. I need help to get this fixed, and to have a warranty that this is safe and will work.

Shortly after the car was started and while still parked, a foul smell was detected and black smoke observed coming from the air vents. The vehicle was then turned off however within minutes of safely exiting all passengers from the vehicle, flames came out towards the passenger seat from underneath the glove box. An unsuccessful attempt was made to smother the flames with large wet towels before being successfully put out with the fire extinguisher. 911 was called and the fire department suspected the cause of the fire was the HVAC motor blower. The battery was disconnected and the car towed to the dealership where it has been for the past week. As of yesterday, according to the dealer, the source of the fire is thought to be a short circuit in the HVAC motor blower. The insurance is awaiting the fire report at this point.

The rear shocks/struts have each failed twice so far. I have had both replaced once, and the rear passenger side replaced through Ford. I have the Platinum warranty for Ford, which covers the MacPherson Strut (which is what my vehicle has on the rear, it does not have individual shocks). I have had the vehicle less than 4 years, and am looking at putting the 5th set of shocks on the vehicle. For clarification, the MacPherson strut has a shock as part of its assembly. It is not a separate unit, it is a component of the MacPherson strut.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
1 complaint
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-29 AT 5:00 SUNDAY MORNING WITH MY WIFE AND 4 CHILDREN A TRUCK PASSED ME. IT WAS 4 DEGREES OUTSIDE, BUT THE SALT THAT THE STATE HAD PUT ON THE ROAD WAS MELTING THE SNOW ALONG THE ROAD CAUSING THE ROAD TO BE WET WITH SALTY WATER. AS THE SEMI PASSED US, IT SPRAYED THE SALT MIXTURE ONTO OUR FRONT WINDSHIELD. I LOST VISION OF THE INTERSTATE, SO I HIT THE WIPER FLUID LEVER. NOTHING CAME OUT, SO I TRIED IT AGAIN. AGAIN NOTHING HAPPENED. I COULD HEAR THE MOTOR RUNNING BUT NOTHING WAS COMING OUT. WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO SEE, I HAD TO SLOW MY VEHICLE AND PULL OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING SURE WHAT I WAS PULLING ON. I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING OUT OF THE FRONT WINDOW. WE HAD 2 HOURS LEFT TO DRIVE AND THE ROAD DIDN'T LOOK TO BE ANY DRYER AHEAD OF US. WE HAD TO STOP AT SEVERAL GAS STATIONS ALONG THE ROUTE JUST TO WASH THE DIRT FROM OUR FRONT WINDOW, BUT IF WE WERE PASSED BY ANYTHING WE HAD TO MAKE SURE TO BE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT I COULD LOOSE COMPLETE VISION OF THE ROADWAY AHEAD OF US. OUR REAR WIPER FLUID WOULDN'T WORK EITHER. THE TEMP GOT TO 10 THAT DAY. MY WIPER FLUID NEVER DID WORK. ONLY AFTER IT SAT IN THE GARAGE FOR 2 HOURS WOULD IT EVEN WORK. SO I DECIDED TO GO DRIVE AND SEE HOW LONG IT WOULD WORK FOR, 20 MINUTES BEFORE IT STOPPED. IT WAS 10 DEGREES WHEN I TESTED IT. SO TODAY I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP, SIOUX CITY FORD. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GO BUY DIFFERENT WASHER FLUID. I ASKED THEM IF THEY USED TO DIFFERENT WASHER FLUID IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DRAIN OUT THE OLD STUFF AND PUT NEW STUFF IN IT. I JUST HAD MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY USED THE CHEEP STUFF. THE LADY ON THE PHONE SAID THAT IS ALL THEY HAVE, AND THAT IF I REQUEST THEM TO USE ANYTHING DIFFERENT, WE WOULD HAVE TO BUY OUR OWN AND EITHER BRING IT IN, OR FILL IT OURSELVES. WE WERE GOING 75 WHEN I LOST COMPLETE VISION OF THE ROAD WITH NO WAY TO CLEAN MY WINDOW.

BELOW PLEASE FIND MY ACCOUNT OF A VERY FRIGHTENING EVENT THAT TOOK PLACE WHEN MY 2017 FORD EXPEDITION MALFUNCTIONED. IN LATE AUGUST, 2018 WE WERE ON VACATION IN SEATTLE, WA., VISITING MY SON AND HIS FAMILY. FIVE OF US WERE IN MY EXPEDITION AND MY SON WAS DRIVING. WE PULLED UP TO PARK BY HIS HOUSE ON A STEEP ROAD. HE PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE, REMOVED THE KEYS, AND PROCEEDED TO GET OUT. THERE WERE THREE ADULTS AND TWO CHILDREN (AGES 7 AND 4). ALL THREE ADULTS GOT OUT AND WERE HELPING THE CHILDREN OUT WHEN THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD ON ITS OWN. I WAS OUT OF THE VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I TRIED TO HOLD THE DOOR HANDLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BUT IT TOOK OFF. MY SON WHO WAS OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ALSO REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING, JUMPED BACK IN, AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. IT ROLLED ABOUT 12 FEET DOWNHILL BEFORE HE COULD STOP IT. THE TWO CHILDREN WERE STILL IN IT. THE STREET WAS ON A VERY STEEP INCLINE THAT I WOULD GUESS TO BE ABOUT 25 DEGREES. IF MY SON HAD NOT STOPPED THE CAR IT COULD HAVE ROLLED ABOUT 100 YARDS THROUGH TWO INTERSECTIONS AND INTO A HOUSE WITH THE TWO CHILDREN IN IT. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO THEM. WE TOOK THE EXPEDITION TO A FORD DEALERSHIP IN SEATTLE (FORD OF KIRKLAND) TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM VACATION, WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (BOLTON FORD, LAKE CHARLES, LA. WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW) AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. WHAT DO I DO NOW? CAN FORD EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED AND REASSURE ME THAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN?

TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING MY CAR I ATTEMPTED TO START IT ONE MORNING. I GOT IN THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE BREAK PEDAL AND PUSH TO START. WHEN DOING THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT START AND THE LIGHTS WERE FLICKERING. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TOOK THE KEY WITH ME AND THE LIGHTS STILL FLICKERED ON AND OFF. I HAD TO GET IT JUMPED TO TAKE IT TO SUN STARE FORD. WHO STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. I ALSO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE PARKING AIDE. I WILL JUST BE DRIVING (STEETS OR HIGHWAYS) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE PARKING AIDE WILL GO OFF. I AM NO WHERE NEAR ANY CARS. IT DOES IT SPERATICALLY. IT SCARES ME AND NOW I AM NOT SURE IF WHEN THE SENSORS ON THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS ARE ON IF THEY ARE CORRECT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH LANES. I CAN'T TRUST THAT WHEN I AM BACKING UP OR PARKING WHAT THE SENSORS ARE BEEPING AT. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE. AGAIN I TOOK THE CARE TO SUN STARE FORD AND AGAIN NO RESOLUTION AND NO EXPLANATION. JUST LAUGHED AND SAID I DON'T KNOW.
