TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MASTER KEY FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CONSTANTLY HAD TO USE THE KEY FOB. ALSO, DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER BELOW 30 DEGREES, THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY HESITANT. THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT FOR A MOMENT TO ENSURE THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD START AND NOT SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT ALSO HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS UNKNOWN. SCHICKER FORD (3300 S KINGS HIGHWAY, ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI 63139, (314) 664-4100) WAS CONTACTED, BUT DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.

THROUGHOUT MY OWNERSHIP OF 2005 FORD FOCUS WAGON SES ZXW, I HAVE HAD PERIODIC ISSUES WITH THE REAR HATCH UNLATCHING ON ITS OWN. I WILL UNLATCH WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. SOMETIMES IT WILL UNLATCH WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. ALTHOUGH IT WILL UNLATCH UPON THE START OF A TRIP AT SLOW SPEEDS AS WELL, IT HAS MOSTLY OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE 2007. THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR PERIODICALLY 3-7 TIMES EVERY 1-1.5 YEARS SINCE THE 2008-2009. THE PROBLEM DEFINITELY OCCURS UNDER A DAMP AND MORNING DEW CONDITION. IT'S LIKE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT HAS OCCURRED I MY VEHICLE. THE LATCH STOPPED WORKING IN 2009 VIA THE PUSH BUTTON IN THE DASH AND EVEN WITH MY REMOTE KEY. I CHECKED THE FUSE PANEL ... AND IT WAS NOT BLOWN. THIS CONDITION MOSTLY OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.

ON MANY OCCASIONS THE REAR HATCH (ZXW WAGON) HAS OPENED ON ITS OWN. I'VE ALWAYS ASSUMED I MUST NOT HAVE CLOSED IT PROPERLY AS IT ALSO HAS NOT LATCHED ON MANY OCCASIONS WHEN CLOSING IT. SOMETIMES IT CAN TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, CLOSING IT FIRMLY. ONE THE MOST RECENT OCCASSION OF THE HATCH OPENING WHILE DRIVING OUR DOG WAS IN THE CAR BAG CARGO AREA, SO YOU CAN IMAGINE MY ANGER AT THE LATCH. ANOTHER ISSUE HAS BEEN THE LICENCE PLATE LIGHTS NOT ILLUMINATING THE PLATE AT NIGHT, WHICH HAS RESULTED IN A STOP BY AN OFFICER. YESTERDAY, MAY 18TH 2017, THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES ON MY DRIVE HOME, THEN WENT OFF. WHEN I GOT HOME I PUT A METER ON THE BATTERY WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND GOT 12.04-12.7 VOLTS. WHILE SEARCHING YOUTUBE FOR SOME HOW-TO ALTERNATOR VIDEOS I STUMBLED ACROSS A VIDEO THAT SPOKE OF THE WIRING IN THE HATCH AREA. I REMOVED THE BOOT AND SURE ENOUGH, HALF OF THE WIRES HAD DAMAGED JACKETS AND A FEW WERE EXPOSED. I'VE MADE TEMPORARY REPAIRS AND AS NOW THE VOLTAGE READS 14.5 OR MORE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. ALSO, THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS ARE WORKING AGAIN. THIS REPAIR IS SURELY GOING TO BE TEMPORARY AT BEST AS I SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS FOR A REPAIR FACILITY TO DO THE WORK AND I HAVE LIMITED RESOURCES. I COULD NOT SELL THE CAR WITH CLEAR CONSCIENCE WITHOUT DISCLOSING MY DISCOVERY WHICH SURELY MEANS MOST PEOPLE ARENT GOING TO WANT IT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE WAS ANY RECALL FOR THIS, CONSIDERING IT COULD HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE MANY MALFUNCTIONS IN THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY AS WELL THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS, CARGO AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROADWAY. THIS LATCH POPPING ISSUE HAS HAPPENED IN PRETTY MUCH EVERY CONDITION.....MY DRIVEWAY, IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, THE HIGHWAY ETC.

KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. UPON RESEARCH IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE FORD FOCUS. REMEDIES SUGGEST TO MOVE THE PIECE ON THE SHIFT UPWARD, HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT WORKING FOR MY VEHICLE.

TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AT AROUND 80,000 MILES TO THE POINT WHERE 2ND AND 3RD GEAR WERE NEARLY NON EXISTENT. WHEN OD LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AUTOZONE TOLD ME THAT SOLENOIDS/TRANSMISSION WERE SHOT. AFTER REPLACING THE SOLENOIDS AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF WITH AN IDENTICAL TRANSMISSION FROM AN IDENTICAL VEHICLE, IT IS APPARENT THAT THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE INDEED FAULTY. IT IS STILL SLIPPING AND SLAMMING INTO GEAR. OVERDRIVE RARELY FUNCTIONS PROPERLY AND TENDS TO SHUT ITSELF OFF.

I HAVE A STANDARD AND WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 55 MPH WHEN MY GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN BETWEEN SHIFTING. I TRIED TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL DOWN BUT IT WOULD NOT GO. I HAD TO LET MY CAR COAST OVER TO A TURNING LANE IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF COMING TRAFFIC. I PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND HAD TO LET MY CAR SIT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I TRIED TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL DOWN AND IT STILL WOULD NOT WORK. I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND THE GAS PEDAL STILL WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AGAIN AND RESTARTED IT AND LET THE CAR SIT AGAIN FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. THE PEDAL FINALLY WORKED BUT AS SOON AS I MADE IT TO THE NEXT INTERSECTION AND MADE MY TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT WHERE I WORK, THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK AGAIN. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND LET IT COAST INTO A PARKING SPOT.

ON THE 27TH OF NOV. 2017 WHILE PUTTING MY CAR INTO THE GARAGE THERE WAS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION, CRASHING INTO THE WALL PUSHING THE SHELVING INTO THE SPARE BEDROOM. I PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND EXITED THE GARAGE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, STILL TRYING TO BRAKE. HIT A TREE AT THE CURB PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE INSTEAD OF NEUTRAL THEN HEADED BACK TOWARD THE HOUSE WHILE STILL TRYING TO BRAKE, WAS ABLE TO SWERVE MISSING THE HOUSE, TURNED OFF THE KEY AND WOUND UP IN MY NEIGHBORS BACKYARD.

FOR TWO WEEKS I HEARD AND FELT A SLIGHT POP IN THE FRONT DRIVERSIDE WHEEL WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND THEN WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AFTER GAINING SOME MOMENTUM. TOOK IT TO GET LOOKED AT BY MECHANIC AND ACTUALLY LOOKED AT THE AREA IN QUESTION MYSELF. (CONTROL ARM, BALL JOINT, CV, SWAY LINK, STEERING ASSEMBLY AND STRUTS) WE COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM NOR COULD WE RECREATE THE 'POP' WITH THE CAR ON THE LIFT. WAS SUGGESTED THAT I HAVE MY ENGINE MOUNT BUSHINGS REPLACED WHICH IS FAIRLY CHEAP AND EASY. WHILE WAITING FOR THE BUSHINGS TO ARRIVE MY BALL JOINT 'FAILED'. IT DID NOT BREAK, IT JUST SLIPPED OUT. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30MPH ON SECONDARY RESIDENTIAL ROAD WHICH WAS FREE OF BUMPS, DIPS, ETC. SUDDENLY I HEAR A BANG, THE CAR JERKS AND TIRE SCREECHES. I THOUGHT IT MUST BE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM SO I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND STEER IT ONTO THE SHOULDER. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE I SEE THE DRIVERSIDE WHEEL HAS UNATTACHED FROM THE BALL JOINT AND IS NOW KICKED OUT @ 90DEGREES. THE CV IS TORN FROM TRANSMISSION, STABILIZER LINK IS TWISTED, STRUT WAS BENT WAY BACK, TIRE HAS HOLE WORN IN IT, SLIGHT BODY DAMAGE. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I HAD NOT MADE IT O THE HIGHWAY YET. THE BALL JOINT WAS NOT BROKEN IN ANY WAY; IT HAD JUST SLIPPED FROM ITS CUFF. I NOW HAVE THE BALL JOINT AND BOLT THAT HOLDS IT TO THE SUSPENSION KNUCKLE AT HOME FOR MY OWN INSPECTION. THERE IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE HERE. THIS IS AN ENGINEERING AND DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER MADE IT PAST THE DRAWING BOARD. BASICALLY, YOU HAVE BARELY 1/16" OF THE SIDE OF THE 1/2" BOLT EXPOSED TO A GROOVE FOR ROUGHLY 1/4". I MEASURED THESE WITH A PAIR OF HIGH GRADE CALIPERS AND WAS APPALLED, I WAS APPALLED WHEN I JUST LOOKED AT THE ASSEMBLY,BUT THOSE NUMBERS ARE WEAK. IN ORDER TO KEEP ALL THE TIRES IN GOOD AND EQUAL CONDITION I PURCHASED THREE MORE. OVER THE PAST 10 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR "ALIGNMENT ISSUES" AND TO A PRIVATE ALIGNMENT SHOP FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY FORD TODAY THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE "NUMBER IS" BUT THAT THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DO NOTHING UNTIL THAT "MAGIC NUMBER" IS REACHED. EVIDENTLY THEY HAVE ALSO ISSUED A "SILENT RECALL" THAT ALLOWS ONLY THOSE VEHICLES THAT CANNOT BE ADJUSTED TO THEIR "GENEROUS" SPECS TO BE REPAIRED. THIS FOCUS HAS BEEN SPEEDING UP, WITHOUT WARNING. THE BRAKES WILL NOT STOP IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 15 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SUBURBAN FORD, WHERE I PURCHASED IT, BRAND NEW. NO ONE CAN FIX IT, THEY LOOK AT ME LIKE I'M CRAZY, THEY DON'T CARE THAT THIS VEHICLE COULD HURT OR KILL SOMEONE. IT SCARES ME TO DRIVE IT. SO FAR, NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. OH,YES, IT ALSO DOES THIS WHEN IT IS STATIONARY.....THAT IS WHEN IT ROARS AS LOUD AS IT CAN. THIS CAR NEEDS A BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM . THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FORD MODELS, INCLUDING PICK UP TRUCKS, BETWEEN 2002 AND 2010 INVOLVED IN THIS PROBLEM. 14 STATES BACK EAST WERE INVOLVED IN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST FORD FOR THIS. THE FACT THAT THESE PEOPLE OUT HERE (OREGON) KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT, CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE "THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING', IS INFURIATING. THE INNER BRAKE PADS ON THE FRONT AXLES ARE PRONE TO BINDING DUE TO RUST. THE CLEARANCES ARE VERY TIGHT. THIS CAUSES PREMATURE, UNEVEN BRAKE AND ROTOR WEAR ONCE THE PAD RUSTS UP AND STOPS FLOATING. MY PADS JUST FAILED AFTER 42K MILES; YET THE OUTER PADS WERE OVER 1/4" THICK. I PROPOSE A SEVERAL-PART REMEDY (FIRST 3 TO BE DONE BY SERVICING TECHNICIAN): 1. EXAMINE THE PADS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THE USUAL ONCE A YEAR REQUIRED BY TYPICAL SAFETY INSPECTIONS; PULL THE WHEELS AND CHECK FOR MOVEMENT OF THE INBOARD PADS. THE PADS MAY HAVE TO BE RETRACTED WITH A C CLAMP SO THEY HAVE ROOM TO MOVE. 2. IF THE PADS ARE FROZEN, REMOVE BRAKE DISK AND PADS AND REMOVE RUST ON THE SLIDING SURFACE DOWN TO BARE METAL WITH A FLAT FILE, UNTIL PADS SLIDE FREELY. 3. LUBRICATE SURFACES WITH MOLYKOTE OR SIMILAR ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND. 4. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD REVIEW THE DESIGN WITH BRAKE VENDORS TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION WHICH COULD BE INCORPORATED INTO REPLACEMENT PADS. IF SLIGHTLY SHORTER PADS ARE THE ANSWER, THEY SHOULD INCLUDE ANTI-RATTLE MEASURES. I PURCHASED A USED 2005 FORD FOCUS ZXW WAGON. I LOVE THE VEHICLE, AS IT GETS GOOD MILEAGE, & HAS AMPLE SPACE, BUT I RAN INTO A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AS MY LEFT TAIL LIGHT WENT OUT ON ME. UPON TAKING OUT THE REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY, AND TRYING TO REPLACE THE LIGHT BULB, I HAD THE HARDEST TIME TAKING OUT THE LIGHT SOCKET OUT OF THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY TO CHANGE THE BULB. UPON FINALLY GETTING THE LIGHT SOCKET OUT, I FIND THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY WHERE THE LIGHT SOCKET HOLDS THE BULB HAD MELTED, & DEFORMED THE HOLE OF THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. WHAT A TERRIBLE DESIGN! UNFORTUNATELY, AS YOU LOWER THE SEAT, YOU ALSO CREATE A GAP BETWEEN THE SEAT CUSHION AND THE BACK CUSHION, EXPOSING THE LUMBAR SPINE TO THAT GAP. THIS IS WHERE MY LOWER SPINE WAS WEDGED AS A RESULT OF THE REAR-END COLLISION. THE BACK CUSHION HAS TOO LITTLE SUPPORT TO KEEP THE SPINE FROM BUCKLING AND WEDGING ITSELF, BUTT FIRST. I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT, ON FARM TO MARKET ROAD 1960 (STATE HIGHWAY FM 1960) WHILE IN MOTION AND I PRESSED THE BRAKE. THE MOTOR REVVED UP AND WOULD NOT STOP. IT SEEMED LIKE THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK. AFTER STARTING THE CAR WHEN IT HAS SET A FEW HOURS THE OVERDRIVE OFF LIGHT IS FLASHES YELLOW, ODOMETER JUST SHOWS DASHES, AND SPEEDOMETER DOSENT WORK. CAR STILL OPERATES BUT SHIFTS GEARS HARD, WHEN IT REACHES THE SPEED FOR DOOR TO LOCK EVERYTHING STARTS WORKING. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE MGMT FUSE, AND HAVE HAD 3 ALTENATORS CHANGED OUT IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. ALSO I HAD A PROBLEM WITH KEY NOT COMING OUT OF IGNITION AND FOUND OUT THAT A PEICE OF THE SHIFTER HAD BROKE OFF AND SLID DOWN AND KEPT IT FROM GOING ALL THE WAY INTO PARK, AFTER REMOVING PART I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE KEY. I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR HESITATING WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS REPEATEDLY HAPPENED. I HAVE A LITTLE OVER 90,300 MILES ON THE CAR. IT REALLY SCARES ME WHEN I'M GOING AT LEAST 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND PRESS THE GAS TO ACCELERATE AND THEN GET THE HESITATION OR PULLBACK AS IF IT IS GOING TO CUT OFF. I'M AFRAID IT IS GOING TO CUT OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. IT ALSO HAPPENS WHEN I'M DRIVING 35 MPH. WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND I CUT THE CAR AND START IT BACK UP, THE CLOCK RESETS TO 12:00 AND THE RADIO COMES ON BLASTING. MY LIGHTS FLICKER WHEN IT HAPPENS AT NIGHT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THIS HAS NOT HELPED ONE BIT AND I AM OUT $462. THE WIRING BETWEEN THE HATCH DOOR AND THE BODY IS DETERIORATED WITH A BROKEN WIRE FOR THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT AND THE INSULATION CRACKED AND MISSING ON MANY OF THE OTHER WIRES. THIS IS A REAL HAZARD AS SHORTS COULD OCCUR AFFECTING ALL THE REAR LIGHTS THAT ARE CONTROLLED WITH THESE WIRES. LUCKILY I READ ON A YOUTUBE REPORT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE FORD ZXW WAGON'S LIFTGATE WIRING HARNESS HAD FRAYED INSIDE THE RUBBER HOUSING AT THE JUNCTION WHERE THE GATE PIVOTS BETWEEN THE CAR BODY AND LIFTGATE. THE WIRES SHORTED WHICH CAUSED THE ELECTRIC GATE RELEASE TO OPEN AT 70MPH, WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A FREEWAY. THE LIFTGATE ROSE UP, OPENING THE BACK OF THE CARGO AREA TO TRAFFIC. LUCKILY FREEWAY SPEED WINDS KEPT IT FROM COMPLETELY OPENING, BUT WHEN SLOWED TO 30MPH IT WENT STRAIGHT UP. I'M LUCKY I HAD NO CHILDREN OR ANIMALS IN THE BACK CARGO AREA. AND THE FELLOW DRIVERS ON THE ROAD WERE LUCKY NOTHING SHIFTED AND FELL OUT. THE LIFTGATE REFUSED TO LATCH AFTER THIS POINT, MAKING DRIVING THE CAR SAFELY IMPOSSIBLE. IN RESEARCHING THE CAUSE AND REPAIR, I NOTICED SEVERAL FORUMS WHERE AN IDENTICAL PROBLEM WITH FORD'S DESIGN WAS POSTED. THE REPLACEMENT BILL AT A FORD DEALERSHIP WAS AROUND $1,200, NOT INCLUDING MY TIME LOST TO RESEARCH, REPAIR, OR FINDING ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR MY BUSINESS PURPOSES. THIS IS DANGEROUS, POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING, AND UNFORTUNATELY, NOT FIXED. THE MECHANICS AT FORD SAID THE REPLACEMENT PART IS THE SAME AS WHAT WAS ORIGINAL. THIS WILL LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN.

ENGINE AND FUEL CAP LIGHT CAME ON DASH. AFTER REPLACING CAP WITH A FORD GAS CAP AND CLEARING THE CODE AT A FORD DEALERSHIP THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY. ALL ATTEMPTS TO CLEAR THE CODE WITH ANOTHER GAS CAP AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP RESULTED IN THE SAME RESULTS.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL LINE TO THE ENGINE HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT WOULD SMELL GASOLINE FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE DEALER THEN REPLACED THE O-RINGS TO THE FUEL LINE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO REPAIRED THE DAMAGED FUEL LINE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE FUEL LEAK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,816.

WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY AT THE TIME TRAVELING ABOUT 65 MILES PER HOUR. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND WITH A GREAT DEAL OF DIFFICULTY I WAS ABLE, FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT TO REACH AND DISLODGE THE OBSTRUCTION. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY TO AVOID A LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT. THE NEXT DAY, JULY 13, 2005 I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO SCARFF FORD AND THEY REINSTALLED THE PART AT NO CHARGE. AS VEHICLE WARMS UP, THERE IS A WHINING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE RPMS BEING HIGHER. IT ALMOST FEELS AS IF IT'S BELT OR POWER STEERING RELATED, BUT THERE IS NO LOSS OF STEERING POWER. In a rear end accident the airbags never deployed. The seat belt also didn't catch me and my chest hit the steering wheel. I pressed hard on the breaks but it didn't feel like it was slowing down. I now have a fractured sternum and cannot drive or work. I have filed insurance claims and been to the hospital. No one was in the car with me. There were no warning lights/signs before.

TODAY MY ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT WITH MY KIDS. I HAVE TO PLAY WITH THE WIRES WHERE THEY CONNECT TO THE HEADLIGHTS IN ORDER FOR THEM TO TURN ON, BUT THEY OFTEN DO NOT STAY ON, AND THEY FREQUENTLY WILL TURN OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING, SOMETIMES IT'S JUST ONE SIDE, OR ALTERNATING SIDES. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR AND EVERYTIME I HAVE WORK DONE TO FIX IT, IT ONLY FIXES IT TEMPORARILY AND IT'S BACK TO DOING THIS ALL OVER AGAIN.

THE LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A 5 LANE CITY ROAD CAUSING THE WHEEL TO FOLD UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CAR MADE AN IMMEDIATE LEFT TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST. FORTUNATELY THE CAR CAME TO A STOP WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING AND NO ONE WAS INJURED BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAS CERTAINLY THERE. THE CONTROL ARM FAILED DUE TO CORROSION AND UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM IS ALSO RUSTED THROUGH AND CRACKED AND NEARING FAILURE AS WELL. PICTURES ARE ATTACHED. SINCE WE RECEIVED THE CAR, WE HAVE NOTICED INCONSISTENT ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION - BOTH IN TOWN AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT WAS A SIMPLE SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP LIGHT. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE GENTLY TO START COMING TO A FULL STOP BEHIND A FEW CARS. AS MY CAR TRIED TO SLOW DOWN, I NOTICED IT WAS FIGHTING TO SLOW DOWN. BEGINNING LAST YEAR, THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHEN I WAS DECELERATING AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR WOULD BEGIN TO VIBRATE AND THE STEERING WOULD BECOME DIFFICULT TO HANDLE. TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, ASKED ME TO MAKE NOTE OF ROAD CONDITIONS, ETC. TIRES REPLACED SOMETIME IN THE PAST YEAR. ALIGNMENT PERFORMED WITHIN PAST TWO MONTHS. TIRES ARE WEARING IN DIAGONAL PAIRS ODDLY. BLEW FUSE WHICH OPERATED THE AUTOMATIC SAFETY LOCKS, CRUISE CONTROL AND THE LOCKING CONTROL ON TAKING THE CAR OUT OF PARK. CALLED FORD DEALERSHIP, WAS TOLD TO POP SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC OFF THE SHIFTER DECK AND STICK A SCREW DRIVER IN TO BE ABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. WAS ALSO TOLD THIS COULD BE A BIG PROBLEM AND TO BRING IT IN. AFTER CHARGING ME $130.00 TO "DIAGNOSE" THE PROBLEM, THEY THEN CHARGED ME $10 TO REPLACE THE FUSE, COULD FIND NO REASON FOR IT TO HAVE BLOWN. THEN TOLD ME MY TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TOO MANY DOLLARS LATER, I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. TWO WEEKS LATER, FUSE BLEW AGAIN. TOOK TO INDEPENDENT GARAGE,$ 0.95 FOR THE FUSE AND $30 TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHY IT WAS BLOWING OUT, UNSUCCESSFULLY. THE SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END WAS GETTING WORSE AND I WAS DEBATING DEALERSHIP OR INDEPENDENT, DECISION WAS REMOVED FROM MY HANDS WHEN THE FRONT OF THE CAR BEGAN SWERVING TOWARD TRAFFIC IN RUSH HOUR AT 45MPH ON MONDAY NIGHT 6/24/13. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE AND I MANAGED TO WRENCH THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND HIT A CURB INSTEAD OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FOR FOCUS ZXW STATION WAGON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION AND THE SHIFT OVER RIDE BUTTON WAS DEPRESSED, THE KEY WOULD BECOME LOCKED IN THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT GLUED THE SHIFT OVER RIDE BUTTON IN PLACE AND CHANGED THE IGNITION, WHICH RESOLVED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE METAL FRAME OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT BECAME CRACKED. THE CONTACT HAD TO PROP THE SEAT UP SO THAT HE COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 205,000. UPDATED 02/20/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WAS POORLY DESIGNED. UPDATED 02/21/13 THE CONSUMER STATED THE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, AFTER HAVING THE FLUID FLUSHED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS WERE RIGID AND WERE EASY TO BREAK, THE REAR SUSPENSION SPRINGS WERE NOT DESIGNED TO CARRY WEIGHT, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BOUNCE ON THE HIGHWAY AND SECONDARY ROAD BUMPS. THE HEAT SHIELDS ATTACHED TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WERE DESIGNED POORLY, TO THE POINT THEY WERE BENT AND CAUSED A RATTLE. THE STEEL RIMS, BENT EASILY, WHICH CREATED A VIBRATION AND BALANCE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD BACK IN 2009 THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR WAS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THE STEREO WAS!!! I JUST HAD MY ROTORS AND BRAKES REPLACED, BUT THEY CANNOT FIND OUT WHY THEY ARE WEARING OUT SO SOON. WE ARE TALKING 3<MONTHS. THEY SAID THERE IS NO ISSUE, BUT I NOW HAVE PROOF THERE IS. WE HAVE ANOTHER FOCUS THAT I TOOK TO THE STREET I LIVE ON. I GOT UP TO 30MPH AND COASTED TO A CERTAIN PLACE NEAR THE END OF THE STREET. THE FOCUS WITH NO ISSUE WAS STILL GOING 23MPH AT THAT LOCATION. I DID THE SAME THING WITH THE ONE I JUST HAD THE ROTARS AND BRAKES REPLACED ON. ON THAT ONE I WAS ONLY GOING 5MPH. AS SOON AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES DRIVING IT BACK I KNEW THERE WAS AN ISSUE. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PUSH THE BRAKES DOWN NEAR AS FAR AS I COULD ON THE GOOD FOCUS. WHEN IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRENTY, THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER WHICH HELPED SOME, BUT DID NOT COMPELETELY FIX THE ISSUE. THIS CAR HAS ONLY 39171 MILES AND HAD BEEN TO THE FORD DEALER FREQUENT FOR A NOISE PROBLEM THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE NOISE AND NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY AND HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED COMMENTS WERE MADE AT THE REPAIR SHOP AS TO THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE THE LACK OF ONE BOLT CAUSED AND THAT LUCKY AS TO THE SPEED TO WHICH IT CAME APART THIS EVENT COULD HAVE BEEN ALOT WORSE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY START, BUT ONCE IT DID, IT STALLED FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE ROTORS WERE REPAIRED. THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2005 FOCUS WAS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY DURING 7 - 16 MARCH 2007. WHILE DOING THE WORK THEY NICKED THE BRAKE LINE JUST ENOUGH TO CREATE A SLOW LEAK. THE LOCATION OF THE LEAK WAS NEAR THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. AFTER ONE DAY OF DRIVING, ALL THE FLUID LEAKED OUT AND THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT. THE DEALERSHIP ARRANGED TO PICK UP THE FOCUS WITH A TOW TRUCK. THEY REPAIRED THE BRAKES (19-23 MAR). ON 23 MAR, MY WIFE PICKED UP THE FOCUS. APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHILE SHE WAS TURNING LEFT. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT PUSHED HER LEFT ARM DOWN AND TO THE RIGHT, PULLING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT, CAUSING HER TO HIT THE CURB. NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS NEARBY OR INVOLVED. SHE WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE FOCUS INTO THE PARKING LOT OF A MEDICAL TREATMENT FACILITY, WHERE SHE WAS TREATED FOR CERVICAL INJURY. THE DEALERSHIP PICKED UP THE FOCUS WITH A TOW TRUCK. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY PUT THE FOCUS UP ON A LIFT AND I INSPECTED THE UNDERCARRIAGE ALONG WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND MECHANIC. THE BRAKE ROTOR WAS COMPLETE SEPARATED FROM THE WHEEL AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS BENT AT ABOUT A 20 DEGREE ANGLE FROM NORMAL. THE WHEEL WAS NOTICEABLY SCRATCHED AND THE TIRE WAS CUT. THE SERVICE MANAGER SUGGESTED THAT MY WIFE HIT THE CURB CAUSING THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. MY WIFE IS ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED CAUSING HER TO HIT THE CURB.*AK

MY CAR KEPT STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND AT STOP SIGNS AND WHERE EVER IT FELT LIKE. THIS STARTED AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES. THEN JUST BEFORE IT GOT TO 36,000 MILES IT WOULD STALL WHEN EVER IT BECAME HOT. AS I WAS GOING UP AND DOWN THE MOUNTAIN PASSES IN WASHINGTON, OREGON AND CALIFORNIA IT WOULD JUST STOP RUNNING EVERY MILE. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS I HAD CARS BEHIND ME AND TRUCKERS ON ALL SIDES AND THE CAR WOULD JUST QUIT AT 65 MPH OR WHAT EVER SPEED I WAS AT. I HAD MAD TRUCKERS AND MAD CARS AND TRUCKS, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WHEN I LIMPED HOME (780 MILES) I GOT THE CAR IN TO BE CHECKED AND FOUND THAT IT WAS THE FUEL RAIL SENSOR. I CALLED FORD AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS FORCED TO PAY FOR A FAULTY PART OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. THEN LAST WEEK I SAW ON THE NEWS THAT TOYOTA AND ANOTHER COMPANY HAD RECALLED THEIR VEHICLES FOR THE SAME EXACT PART. I CALLED FORD TODAY AGAIN AND THEY ARE STILL REFUSING TO ADMIT THAT THIS IS DANGEROUS ON THEIR CARS. I WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION NEAR MY HOME. THE STREET WAS WET, AND WHEN I DETERMINED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP, I APPLIED FULL BRAKING. MY VEHICLE DOES HAVE ABS, BUT MY WHEELS FULLY LOCKED. I REAR ENDED A 1994 FULL SIZE CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 30 MPH. MY CHIEF COMPLAINT IS THAT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, AND THAT THE ABS BRAKING WAS ESSENTIALLY NON-EFFECTIVE. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2005 FORD FOCUS ZX4 IN DECEMBER OF 2005. UPON DELIVERY I NOTICED MY CAR HAD A HARD TIME STARTING AND THE WHOLE ENGINE WOULD SHAKE AND KNOCK. AFTER A MONTH I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. I BROUGHT IT IN A FEW DAYS LATER SO THEY COULD KEEP IT OVER NIGHT AND THEY FOUND A BULLETIN BY FORD SAYING THEY KNOW THERE IS A HARD START PROBLEM BUT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I THEN HAD TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT REPLACED BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T UNLATCH OCCASIONALLY. I THEN HAD TO HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR CASING REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS DISCOLORED. THEN ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 62 MILES AN HOUR AND MY CLUTCH WENT OUT AND MY CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER CAR AND HAD TO WEIGHT IN 90 DEGREE WEATHER FOR 2 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK TO COME. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO FORD AND THEY SAID MY FLY WHEEL HAD CRUMBLED AND MY CLUTCH WAS BAD. IT TOOK THEM 9 DAYS TO REPLACE MY CLUTCH. A DAY LATER MY CAR WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT WITHOUT GRINDING AND I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THAT THIS TIME THEY HAD TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT WAS RUINED AS WELL. TO THIS DAY MY CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR 32 DAYS JUST FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN EARLY NOVEMBER 2004. AS THE WEATHER BEGAN GETTING COLDER AND DAMPER, MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START PROPERLY. THE ENGINE WOULD STUMBLE AND CRANK, BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I WOULD HAVE TO TRY 3-4 TIMES BEFORE THE CAR WOULD ACTUALLY START. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE IN DECEMBER 2004 AND TSB 04-23-4 WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE CORRECTLY STARTED FOR A WHILE AFTER THAT, BUT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN NOW.

THE STORAGE TRAYS BECAME EXTREMELY HOT WHEN DRIVING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WITH THE HEATER ON, ESPECIALLY WHEN DIRECTED TO THE FLOOR ONLY. *NM IN THE OWNER'S GUIDE BOOK THERE WAS AN ERROR THAT STATED; AM/FM STEREO WITH SINGLE CD/MP3 PREMIUM SHOULD BE FOR A 6 CD UNIT AS NOTED BY THE CD 6 ABOVE THE CD SLOT. *SC *JB
