THE VEHICLE WAS JUMP STARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 122,827.

I HAD JUST GOT IN MY CAR TO GO GROCERY AND I STARTED UP MY ENGINE AND SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. HOWEVER, I WAS GOING UP TO 5000 RPMS JUST TO GO 30MPH AND IT DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT WHEN I WAS DRIVING, SO I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE CAR. WHEN I DID THIS, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS ONLY FUNCTIONAL IN DRIVE. I WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO REVERSE AND THE WHEELS WERE LOCKED IN NEUTRAL. SO, I CALLED FOR MY PARENTS FOR HELP. WE KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION, SO WE USED A CODE READER TO SEE IF THE CAR WAS GIVING AN ERROR MESSAGE BUT IT DIDN'T HAVE ONE AND PUT IN NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE, WE NOTICED THAT THE FORD FOCUSES FROM 2010-2015 WERE ALSO HAVE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALER AND SERVICE CENTER LOCATION. WE TOLD THEM THE ISSUES WE WERE HAVE AND PAID FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT THEY DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE HAD DONE. I WAS TOLD MY YEAR WAS NOT ONE OF THE RECALLED ONES, SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ABOUT 5,00 TO REPLACE IT. HOWEVER, I TOLD THEM THAT IT HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES AND A TRANSMISSION SHOULD AT LEAST BE ABLE TO LAST UNTIL 50,000 BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T HELP ME AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE.

CHECK ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHT FLASHED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN INTERSTATE AND SUDDENLY LOST SOME POWER. THIS ISSUE CAME UP WITHOUT ANY OTHER SYMPTOMS. MY MECHANIC UNABLE TO FIND THE ISSUE AND RESOLVE THE CODE ERROR. LATER ON I FIND OUT ALL THE FORD FOCUS HAVING THE SIMILAR PROBLEM AND FORD DID NOT RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE.

IT HAS NOT GONE OFF AT A TIME THAT ALLOWS IT TO BE DIAGNOSED BY A PROFESSIONAL AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT TO REGISTER WHEN HOOKED TO THE COMPUTER,. THE LIGHT IS NO LONGER ON AND DOES NOT NOT ILLUMINATE IN AROUND TOWN DRIVING.

FOR THESE REASONS I THOUGHT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT IN MY RESEARCH I LEARNED ALTHOUGH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, IF THE LIGHT IS ON THE AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK IF NEEDED.

The contact stated while parked in the driveway, the contact opened both rear doors; however, while attempting to close the doors, the doors failed to latch securely. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined that the latch was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

I PURCHASED MY 2009 FORD FOCUS FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN STOCKTON, CA. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE FAST LANE, WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR WENT IN TO (WHAT MY MECHANIC CALLED) LIMP MODE. THE CAR INSTANTLY WENT FROM 70 MPH TO 15 MPH - VERY SCARY! AGAIN, THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN VERY HEAVY COMMUTE TRAFFIC. DEFINITELY A VERY DANGEROUS SCENARIO. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE OVER INTO THE SLOW LANE AND LIMP OFF THE FREEWAY, DOING 15 MPH FOR ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE. QUITE HONESTLY, I DON'T KNOW HOW I DID IT WITHOUT BEING SLAMMED INTO BY OTHER VEHICLES. ALL I COULD DO WAS COAST. I CAME TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE EXIT RAMP. THE CAR IDLED VERY ROUGH. AFTER THIS EVENT OCCURRED A FEW MORE TIMES AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AT HIGH SPEEDS, I DECIDED TO MAKE IT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO HOME SO MY MECHANIC COULD COME AND CHECK THE CAR FOR CODES WHILE IT WAS STILL RUNNING. IT WAS LIKE CLOCK WORK. THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR CLOSE TO ONE HOUR AND MY MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CODES WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED (BY OUR LOCAL MECHANIC) TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $600. LOOKS LIKE THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. My car started to rough idle, when I go to press the gas pedal there is no rev or acceleration or anything. It came up with a code for the throttle body and had it replaced and it worked fine for a while and then it happened again, so I replaced the throttle body again and it started happening right away again. This has happened at 80 MPH and almost caused an accident! I just want this to be understood, and I am not the only other person having this issue!!

VEHICLE HAS MUCH GREATER TIRE WEAR THAN NORMAL ON REAR TIRES. THIS IS A RESULT OF THE WRONG CAMBER ON THE REAR WHEELS OF THIS CAR!! FORD MANUFACTURED IT THIS WAY!!! THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IS WITH NEW CONTROL ARMS, WHICH FORD REFUSES TO REPLACE AT THEIR COST. WITH THE WRONG CAMBER, EACH REAR TIRE ACQUIRES CUPPING EITHER ON THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE TREAD ON THE TIRE. I HAVE SEVERE CUPPING ON THE INSIDE LR AND MODERATE CUPPING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TREAD ON THE RR. THIS WEAR PATTERN PRODUCES AN OUT OF BALANCE CONDITION AND AS SUCH A SAFETY HAZARD. I COMMUNICATE GOODYEAR BY DOING A COMPLAINT WITH BBB ( BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU ). GOODYEAR TOLD THAT SEARS DID A MISTAKE, TIRES WARRANTY IN 65,000 MILES. GOODYEAR AGREES TO REIMBURSE PART OF NEW TIRES SET AND I DISAGREE, MY CONCERN IS THAT TIRES FABRICATION LOT COULD HAVE DEFECTS THAT COULD CAUSE MAJOR CONSEQUENCES. I NOTICE THAT MICHELIN TIRES HAD SAME PROBLEMS AND THEY DID A RECALL. INFORMATION ABOUT THOSE TIRES: DUNLOP SIGNATURE - 195 60/R15 88T M+S DOT (1) MKRB 1XHR 2011 AND (3) MKRB 1XHR 2111. I PURCHASED A FORD FOCUS 2009 A YR AGO FROM THE KIA DEALER SHIP IN RAPID CITY SD. THE CAR HAD ABOUT 18,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT WAS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR JUST OVER A YR AND IT HAS 28,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS TRAVELING TO ABERDEEN SD , GOT AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL 4 TIRES WERE WORE OUT. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS IS USUAL FOR THE FORD FOCUS AND THEY HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO ALIGN THE CAR MORE OFTEN TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING AGAIN AS IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. TIRES SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN THIS. I WAS TRAVELING AND COULD HAVE WRECKED MY CAR AS I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES WOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED UNTIL AROUND 60,000 MILES. I AM LUCKY I DID NOT CRASH WHEN I WAS TRAVELING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE HAD SIGNIFICANT TREAD SEPARATION AND THE STEEL BELTS WERE VISIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE CENTER WHERE THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS REPLACED. UNEVEN TIRE WEAR, REPLACED TIRES AT 20,000 MILES AT 34,000 MILES I'M ALMOST READY TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN. I TOOK THIS FORD FOCUS IN SO MANY TIMES, HAD 4 ALIGNMENTS. THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN THEY SAID I MUST HAVE HAD A ACCIDENT SINCE THEY NOTICED THERE WAS A SCRAP ON MY BUMPER. (A SCRAP AND A IMPACT ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS ISN'T IT?) WELL, I WAS TOLD THAT BEFORE I BRING THE CAR IN AGAIN I NEEDED TO TAKE IT TO A BODY SHOP TO CHECK THE FRAME. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO FRAME DAMAGE ON THIS CAR. I CALLED FORD AGAIN AND THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO TAKE THE CAR TO THERE BODY SHOP TO HAVE THE FRAME CHECKED. SO, WHEN THAT WAS FINALLY DONE I ASK THE GUY WHAT IS THE VERDICT? HE TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FRAME ON THE CAR AND IT WAS MECHANICALLY SOUND. I ASKED HIM "SO WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT THE TIRE WEAR?" I RECENTLY HAD FOUR (4) NEW TIRES INSTALLED ON MY 2009 FORD FOCUS. IN THE PROCESS, ONE OR MORE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS WERE DAMAGED. THE TIRE STORE HAS 'WELDED' THE BROKEN ITEM BACK INTO PLACE, A TEMPORARY FIX AT BEST. THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ARE APPARENTLY FRAGILE AND VULNERABLE TO THE TYPES OF STRESS PUT ON THE AUTO WHEELS DURING TIRE CHANGES. I ASSUME THAT THE "FIX" MAY FAIL AT ANY TIME, AND ALSO THAT DURING FUTURE TIRE REPLACEMENTS, OTHER SENSORS WILL BE DAMAGED. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. DRIVERS SIDE DOOR INCAPACITATED. PART INSIDE DOOR BRAKES AND DOOR BECOMES LOCKED IN PLACE. HAVE TO CLIMB OUT WINDOW OR OVER THE PASSENGER SEAT. IN AN EMERGENCY THIS WOULD BE DIFFICULT. I HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED ONCE AND IT HAS BROKEN AGAIN PART ISHARD TO FIND AND COSTLY TO REPLACE ( FOR WHAT IT IS). PART IS PLASTIC. LUKE PROBABLY FONCTION BETTER IF REPLACEMENT WAS METAL.

THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCHES HAVE STOPPED WORKING. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY SON IN REAR SEAT AND THE DOOR CAME OPEN AROUND A TURN. THEY ARE LUBRICATED REGULARLY AND THEY WILL MOVE PROPERLY BUT INTERNALLY THEY WILL NOT LATCH, THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. I HAVE A STRAP HOLDING THE DOORS CLOSED. AT FIRST IT HAPPENED ONCE IN A WHILE. NOW THEY DON'T WORK AT ALL.

THE REAR DOOR LOCKS WILL BECOME INOPERATIVE AT ANY TIME. THE REAL SAFETY HAZARD IS THAT THE LOCKS WILL NOT EVEN MANUALLY OPERATE. THIS WILL IN EFFECT TRAP ANY REAR PASSENGER IN THE CAR. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE THIS COULD PROVE TO HAVE CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. ACCORDING TO FORD THE WHOLE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR MECHANISM MUST BE REPLACED.

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start-up after multiple attempts without warning. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the ignition switch and housing were replaced. A few months later, the failure recurred, and the contact took the vehicle back to the same mechanic and had the starter replaced. A few months later after the repair, the failure recurred, and the contact took the vehicle to another independent mechanic who replaced the ignition switch and housing for a second time. After the failure occurred for the fourth time, the initial independent mechanic instructed her to place the vehicle in neutral to see if the restarted. The vehicle was started in neutral and the mechanic replaced the neutral safety switch. Despite the repair, the failure recurred. A dealer was notified of the failure and a representative acknowledged that the failure was a known issue; however, there were no recall for the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was provided the same information as the dealer. The manufacturer was then referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING PERFECT THEN AFTER A MOTOR MOUNT WAS REPLACED THE CAR STARTED THEN WENT DEAD IMMEDIATELY. THE CAR WILL TURN OVER BUT IT ISN'T FIRING RIGHT NOW IT GAVE NO WARNING. THE COMPUTER READ A THROTTLE ACTUATOR TROUBLE CODE AND THAT'S ALL. THE CAR WILL KEEP TURNING OVER AFTER I RELEASE THE KEY IT HAS NOT DONE THIS BEFORE NOW WE HAD SOME TROUBLE WITH THE IGNITION LOCKING UP AND WE HAVE TO TURN IT REALLY HARD TO START GET THE KEY IN THE STARTING POSITION. THE IGNITION SYSTEM IS ONE OF THE PROBLEMS AND THE THROTTLE BODY WILL UPDATE WHEN I FIND OUT MORE.

LAST YEAR DURING THE SUMMER I WOULD BE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND I WOULD LOSE POWER. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR DID NOTHING, NO RESPONSE. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY BUT IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS IT HAS BEEN A DAILY THING AND IT HAPPENS NUMEROUS TIMES EACH DAY. I LIVE IN VIRGINIA AND IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE WINTER OR EARLY SPRING WHEN THE TEMPS ARE COOLER. I DRIVE ABOUT 60 MILES ROUND TRIP AND THE MAJORITY OF IT IS ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF, LET IT SET FOR A MINUTE OR LESS AND THEN START IT AGAIN AND IT RUNS. TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY IN PASSING LANE WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON,NOTICED VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN. APPLIED PRESSURE TO GAS PEDAL,NO ACCELERATION. I HAD TO GET OFF ROAD QUICKLY BECAUSE CAR WAS COMING TO A STOP;ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IN DOING SO. VEHICLE IDLED ROUGH AND I HAD NO CONTROL OF ACCELERATION. I SHUT OFF VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO START IT UP AGAIN AND HAD ACCELERATION CONTROL AGAIN. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER SHIP AND THEY REPLACED THROTTLE BODY. SERVICE TECH STATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACING SEVERAL OF THESE THROTTLE BODIES ON FORD VEHICLES LATELY AND THEY EXCEPT A RECALL.MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT BOTH PASSENGER SIDE DOORS, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR, AND THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES MALFUNCTIONED. THE DOOR HANDLES COULD NOT BE USED TO OPEN THE DOORS. THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK PROPERLY NOR WOULD THEY UNLOCK WHEN USING THE KEY FOB OR ATTEMPTING TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ROD THAT WAS SECURING THE LOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

2009 FORD FOCUS 4 DOOR, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE. THE DOOR LOCKS DO NOT WORK ALL THE TIME AND YOU WILL GET LOCKED IN AND HAVE TO CRAWL OVER THE SEATS TO GET OUT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE KEY HOLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE BUT IT DOES NOT UNLOCK THE OTHER DOORS SO YOU CANNOT GET IN SINCE THE DOOR ONLY OPENS FROM THE INSIDE IF IT IS UNLOCKED. YOU CANNOT MANUALLY UNLOCK THE FRONT DOORS BUT YOU CAN CRAWL OVER THE SEATS AND PULL UP THE REAR DOOR LOCKS OR CLIMB OUT THE WINDOWS. FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS AND I SEE SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND YOU CANNOT GET THE DOORS OPEN. I WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN EVEN THOUGH I WAS DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. I THOUGHT THE ENGINE HAD DIED AND I WAS COASTING UNTIL I REALIZED THAT IT WAS STILL RUNNING BUT AT AN IDLE SPEED. I "COASTED" FOR 10 MILES AFRAID TO TURN IT OFF AND BE STRANDED. I GOT IT HOME AND TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND IT ACTED AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG AND HAD GOOD ACCELERATION. IT DID IT AGAIN YESTERDAY (07/18/2014) WHILE TRAVELING AT 75 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR LOST POWER ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over on the side of the road and waited for the vehicle to cool down and the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact had the brakes replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 80,000.

BRAKING TYPICALLY RETURNS TO NORMAL AFTER EACH INCIDENT. AT NO POINT DOES AN ABS OR BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT COME ON. CAR WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE (WRENCH LIGHT) WHILE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ALMOST LED TO ACCIDENT. MY TWO YEAR OLD WAS IN THE VEHICLE, WITH HER SIDE EXPOSED TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN THE CAR LOST CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR AND THROTTLE. RETURNED HOME IMMEDIATELY. WENT OUT TO START IT LATER, NO WARNING LIGHTS, RAN FINE. 2 DAYS LATER, IT WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE ON THE FREEWAY, THIS TIME CEL CAME ON. CODE P2135, INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. PART REPLACED, PROBLEM HASN'T RECURRED. RESEARCH ONLINE INDICATES THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM (THERE IS A TSB). I WOULD REGARD IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE BASED ON THE FAILURE RATES OF WIDESPREAD (ALBEIT ANECDOTAL) EVIDENCE. THOUGH IT ISN'T UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION, IT STILL IS A LOSS OF CONTROL; THIS SYSTEM IS DRIVE-BY-WIRE, THE SAME AS TOYOTA. I WOULD THINK IT SHOULD BE GIVEN CONSIDERATION FOR RECALL. AS REPORTED BY SEVERAL OTHERS, MY 2009 FORD FOCUS WILL UNPREDICTABLY GO INTO "LIMP? OR FAILSAFE MODE, WITH POWER SURGES OR HESITATIONS AND THE WRENCH & CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER THEN ENGINE IS RE-STARTED THE CAR WILL RUN NORMALLY FOR VARIOUS PERIODS OF TIME, SOMETIMES MILES, DAYS OR WEEKS. THIS FIRST HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN NOVEMBER 2012, I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALER, BUT BECAUSE THE WRENCH OR ENGINE LIGHTS WERE NOT ON, THEY WERE UNABLE TO READ ANY CODES OR OTHERWISE DIAGNOSE. IN MAY 2013, I AGAIN EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THE LIMP / FAILSAFE MODE WITH ONE OR BOTH OF THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON. ON MAY 11, 2013 CAR WAS DELIVERED TO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALER WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT ON. THIS DEALER ?CLEANED? THE THROTTLE BODY EVEN THOUGH AS I NOW UNDERSTAND THE THROTTLE BODY IS A SEALED UNIT. JUST OVER 4 WEEKS AFTER THE MAINTENANCE I AGAIN EXPERIENCED THE LIMP MODE AND WRENCH LIGHTS. AT THIS TIME I STARTED TO KEEP TRACK OF EACH INSTANCE. FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH THE CAR EXPERIENCED FREQUENT POWER SURGES/HESITATION AND INSTANCES OF LIMP MODE. THE CAR THEN WENT 1 MONTH WITHOUT ANY REPEAT OF THAT EXPERIENCE. AFTER SEVERAL MORE INSTANCES OF THE PROBLEM IN EARLY SEPTEMBER 2013, THE ISSUE DISAPPEARED FOR OVER 6 MONTHS, UNTIL APRIL 2014. I NOW HAVE A LOG DOCUMENTING APPROX 25 ? 30 INSTANCES OF LIMP MODE OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 8 WEEKS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS BOTH WARM OR COLD, IN ANY WEATHER CONDITIONS, SOMETIMES WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING FOR ONLY 1 MINUTE OR AFTER A LONG DRIVE. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND RE-START AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AGAIN AS OTHERS HAVE COMMENTED, THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY A RECALL. AFTER BREAKING MY LEG AS A RESULT OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITH MISALIGNED WHEELS ON SNOWY/ICY ROADS AND THEREBY LOSING CONTROL (REPORT FILED), I HAVE GONE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO HAS ALLOWED ME TO VISUALLY INSPECT OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. WHAT I HAVE FOUND HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY 4 DIFFERENT MECHANICS IN 4 DIFFERENT REPAIR FACILITIES. THE WHEELS ON A 2009 FORD FOCUS PHYSICALLY CAN NOT BE PUT INTO ALIGNMENT. THE ADJUSTER ARMS ARE TOO SHORT. WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT THE WHEELS, WHICH "TOE IN", FIGHT AGAINST EACHOTHER FOR ROAD CONTROL. THIS CAUSES PREMATURE TIRE WEAR, AND ON ICE AND SNOW WILL CAUSE A VERY RAPID LOSS OF CONTROL AT ANY SPEED. THE DEGREE OF THAT LOSS OF CONTROL WILL VARY DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF "TOE IN", BUT NEEDLESS TO SAY EVEN A LITTLE LOSS OF CONTROL ON A SLIPPERY ROAD IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE FACT THAT THE ADJUSTER ARMS ARE TOO SHORT TO PROVIDE TRUE ALIGNMENT INDICATES A DESIGN FLAW. THE FACT THAT IT CAN, AND HAS, CAUSED ACCIDENTS INDICATES THAT IT IS A DANGEROUS ONE. AS I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE THROTTLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY STOPPED WORKING.(THANKFULLY I WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT THE TIME.) I COASTED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE INTERMITTENT SUBTLE SURGES AND PAUSES IN THE SPEED. ONCE I REACHED MY DESTINATION I HAD A FORD DEALERSHIP RUN A DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES OR PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. I THOROUGHLY RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND OTHERS WERE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND IT WAS RELATED TO THE THROTTLE SENSOR. I HAD CONTACTED A NUMBER OF NATIONAL PARTS SUPPLIERS AND THEY COULD NOT SELL ME JUST THE SENSOR BUT WOULD HAVE TO SELL ME THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER AND THEY HAD A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. SINCE REPLACING THE THROTTLE SENSOR I HAVE PUT OVER 1200 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD TO THIS POINT NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE CONTROL. *JS

I HAVE A 2009 FORD FOCUS. WHEN TURNING ON THE VEHICLE ONE MORNING A WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON AND PRESSING ON THE GAS THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. NUMEROUS TIMES AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, INCLUDING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WILL INEXPLICABLY "STALL OUT"- THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF AND NO LONGER ACCELERATES. FIRST TIME WAS WITH MY WIFE DRIVING WITH OUR BABIES ON THE HIGHWAY. SHE WAS TERRIFIED, AND DID A HEROIC JOB OF GETTING OVER TO THE SHOULDER. SHE TURNED THE KEY OFF AND THEN WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. A FEW WEEKS LATER IT HAPPENED TO ME ON A COUNTRY ROAD- WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE GOING ABOUT 40 MPH. THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON AN EMPTY STRETCH OF OPEN ROAD GOING ABOUT 40, AND I WAS ABLE TO JUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE COASTING AND TURN THE KEY OFF AND BACK ON TO RESTART THE CAR WHILE NEVER ACTUALLY STOPPING IT. REALIZING THAT THIS WAS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN STOPPING TRAFFIC AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, THIS IS HOW I HAVE RESTARTED THE CAR AND RESUMED ACCELERATION IN THE SEVERAL TIMES IT HAS DONE IT SINCE. MY 2009 FORD FOCUS HAS HAD OBVIOUS SUSPENSION ISSUES SINCE 6000 MILES. REAR TIRES ALWAYS SLIP IN WET CONDITIONS FROM A STOPPED POSITION DURING A NORMAL INITIAL ACCELERATION. FURTHERMORE AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN (>) 60 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND THE CAR SHAKES. I AM A FAIRLY GOOD DRIVER AND IN COUNTLESS "NORMAL" DRIVING CONDITIONS MY CAR HAS GOTTEN INTO AN "OUT OF CONTROL STATE" LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO RECOVER. I HAD TAKEN THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE TOLD THE TIRES WERE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I REPLACED TIRES, HAD AN ALIGNMENT PERFORMED AND AGAIN IN SHORT ORDER (LESS THAN 6000 MILES DRIVEN) THE ISSUES CAME UP AGAIN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND NOT NEAR OTHER VEHICLES AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. OTHERWISE THE OUTCOME MIGHT HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. WHEN I WAS STOPPED, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN, BUT ACCELERATOR HAD NO EFFECT. WITH NO ALTERNATIVE, I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I THEN STARTED THE ENGINE. OPERATION APPEARED NORMAL WITH NO WRENCH LIGHT ON. I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND CHECKED CONNECTED MY CODE READER. NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES. DURING SOME SUBSEQUENT DRIVING, THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER EVENTS OR INDICATION OF PROBLEMS. I AM GETTING A FORD OEM THROTTLE BODY TO REPLACE MY EXISTING. THIS IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN FORD PROBLEM THAT HAS AVOIDED A RECALL DESPITE THE POTENTIAL DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TYPE OF FAILURE.

THIS HAPPENED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST OCCASION, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE FOCUS AT AROUND 50 MPH, WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR STOPPED ACCELLERATING (IT DIDN'T STALL) AND THE WRENCH PANEL LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY SHE WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT, SO SHE PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT RAN FINE, AND THE LIGHT WAS OFF. 2009 FORD FOCUS SE. BOUGHT NEW JULY 2009. MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH POWER DOOR LOCKS NOT UNLOCKING FROM INSIDE/OUTSIDE W/KEY,REMOTE,HANDLES. WARRANTY WORK, 3 TIMES IN PAST ONE (1) YEAR ON DOOR LOCKS. LATEST 7/15/11. SAFETY CONCERNS OF BEING TRAPPED IN VEHICLE. CONSTANTLY BEING TOLD BY FORD TECHS. ROAD DUST CAUSING MALFUNCTION. HAVE OWNED AND DRIVEN MANY OTHER MAKES/MODELS OF FORD CARS/TRUCKS W/ POWER LOCKS ON GRAVEL ROADS WITHOUT PROBLEMS. ONLY THIS CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM. 1ST. FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HAD LOCK ASSEMBLY REPLACED.WOULDN'T UNLOCK INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. 2ND. LEFT BACK WOULDN'T UNLOCK INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. DOOR LOCK ADJUSTED BY FORD TECH. SO FAR BOTH WORKING OK. 3RD. TRAPPED OUTSIDE CAR. FINALLY UNLOCKED W/ REMOTE AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS. KEY IN OUTER LOCK WOULDN'T UNLOCK DOOR. NOW IT'S THE DRIVER DOOR THAT HAS TO HAVE THE LOCK ASSEMBLY REPLACED AND IS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THIS DONE.ALSO HAVE COMPLAINT OF ORIGINAL NEW TIRES (HANKOOK P195/60/R15) WEARING OUT AND HAD TO REPLACE AT 21,000 MILES ON 7/09/11. 2009 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH TICKING NOISE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WERE ENGINE/EXHAUST NOISE EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE AFTER IT WAS TURNED OFF. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, SOME FORD VEHICLE MAY EXHIBIT A TICKING/PINGING NOISE FROM THE HOT EXHAUST AFTER THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND THE EXHAUST COOLS DOWN, WHICH IS DUE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM EXPANDING AND CONTRACTING DURING HEATING AND COOLING CYCLES. THE TICKING/PINGING SHOULD BE CONSIDERED NORMAL. THE BRAKE FLUID LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE FLUID WAS LOW. THE TIRES WERE FOUND TO BE OUT OF ROUND, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE TPMS LIGHT ILLUMINATED DUE TO LOW PRESSURE IN ONE OF THE TIRES. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ONE OF THE TIRES HAD A LEAK. *JB

I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH I WAS REAR ENDED BY A VEHICLE TRAVELING 45 MPH WHICH IN TURN CAUSED ME TO SLAM INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT, THE DRIVERS SEAT I WAS SITTING ON WAS BENT AND MOVED BACK. THE AIR BAG DEVICE UNDER THE SEAT WAS DETACHED AND DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. THE ACCIDENT WAS SEVERE ENOUGH IT SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED WHEN I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATED IT IS NORMAL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN TO THE SEAT AND FOR AIRBAGS NOT TO DEPLOY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER YET THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITHIN THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY PULL TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,555 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 18,150. UPDATED 11/12/10 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THREE ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE BRAKES NOT FAILING. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE APPLIED BRAKES THE VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND HIT A CONCRETE STORM DRAIN PIPE. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE ALIGNED AND IT PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT AT SPEEDS ABOVE 45 MPH. UPDATED 11/24/10

2009 FORD FOCUS HEADREST MIS- ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED ON TRIPS LONGER THAN 30 MINUTES, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED PAIN IN HER SHOULDERS FROM HAVING HER HEAD BENT FORWARD AND HAVING NO SUPPORT ON HER UPPER BACK WHEN SHE TRIED TO SIT STRAIGHT UP. WHEN THE CONSUMER TURNED HER HEAD QUICKLY, SHE HIT HER HEAD ON THE HEADREST, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST OBSTRUCTED HER VISION. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE CONSUMER TURN THE HEADREST AROUND TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM, BUT SHE DISCOVERED THAT COULD NOT BE DONE ON HER VEHICLE. *JB
