ON AT LEAST 4 VARIOUS RANDOM OCCASIONS OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL YEARS, WITH THE FOCUS IN MOTION ON A ROADWAY, THE FOCUS ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED WITH THE INTENT TO MAKE A NORMAL STOP OF THE VEHICLE. TWO OF THOSE OCCASIONS OCCURRED RECENTLY IN MARCH AND APRIL OF 2017. ON THOSE OCCASIONS, IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY NORMAL BRAKING. OTHER MEASURES SUCH AS SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION LEVER, APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE OR PULLING OFF THE ROAD WERE NECESSARY BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Focus. The contact stated that intermittently, after starting the vehicle and while driving at various speeds, the clutch pedal was depressed to the floorboard and the vehicle was unable to shift gear as needed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was made aware that the clutch assembly had previously been replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 179,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after he shifted the gear shifter to Park(P), the vehicle lunged and rolled backward as he was exiting the vehicle. The contact's right leg was stuck inside of the vehicle, causing him to fall to the ground while the driver's side front tire ran over his right arm. A bystander jumped into the vehicle and was able to park vehicle. The contact later received medical attention for injuries to his legs, right arm, and back, and was diagnosed with a blood infection. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred while the contact was parking the vehicle and he applied the parking brake to stop the vehicle from rolling. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

The contacts mother owns a 2010 Ford Focus. The contact stated while her mother attempted to park, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle violently accelerated on its own without warning. As a result, the contact crashed into a satellite pole. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries reported. A police report was not filed. The driver was able to reverse the vehicle and park into the parking spot, however the contact stated the failure reoccurred sporadically several times after the crash. The driver took the vehicle to a local dealer to have the vehicle inspected, however the dealer was not able to duplicate the failure. A few months later and the failure reoccurred again and the driver took the vehicle back to the dealer where the dealer repaired and replaced the throttle body control module on the vehicle, but the failure persisted after the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD HAD MY CAR TOWED OVER SO THEY CAN DO A DIAGNOSIS ON THE TRANSMISSION WHICH THEY CHARGED ME ME $110.00 DOLLARS AND.I HIGHLY DOUBT THEY EVEN CHECKED THE VEHICLE I HAD TO TOW IT BACK TO MY HOUSE. THEY TRIED CHARGING ME.$4000 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH THEY ARE AWARE IT'S DEFECTIVE ON FOCUS AND FIESTA MODELS INSTEAD OF TELLING ME THAT THEY WENT AND LET ME SPEND $300 PLUS DOLLARS ON NOTHING I HAD TRIED TO CHANGE OUT TRANSMISSION OIL AND IT WORKED FOR A WHILE. I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT ON A GRANT. AND I FEEL FORD RISKED MY LIFE BY NOT INFORMING ME HOW BAD THE TRANSMISSION IS ON THIS VEHICLE PLUS ON MY SERVICE HISTORY THEY LIED AND SAID THEY SERVICED MY CAR WHICH IS NOT THE CASE.

THE IGNITION SWITCH DOESN'T WORK. YOU CAN TURN THE KEY ON, BUT IT WILL NOT MAKE THE CONNECTION TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER. WE HAVE PUSHED THE KEY IN AND TURNED IT ON, BUT STILL NOTHING. WHEN THE KEY IS IN THE ON POSITION EVERYTHING WORKS (RADIO, LIGHTS, AIR, WINDOWS, ETC.) EVERYTHING BUT THE ENGINE! WHEN SEARCHING THIS ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

Both rear doors will not stay closed as the latches do not work. The doors will swing open when driving if not secured with a strap, making it unsafe to have passengers in the back seat. Other models and different years of the same model have had recalls issued for the same issue. I haven't taken it to be inspected as I cannot afford to pay $140 at the dealership for the diagnosis. I did not own the vehicle when the issue first occurred so I don't know if there were any warning signals prior to the issue appearing.

I HAD THE CAR IN A FORD DEALERSHIP (JIM KEIM FORD, HILLIARD, OH) AND WAS SHOWN THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR AND HOW THE TIRES WERE WEARING UNEVENLY, WEARING ON THE INSIDE. INTO THE NEXT YEAR, I AGAIN STARTED NOTICING THE UNUSUAL WEAR PATTERN AND HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER SET OF TIRES ON 6/27/14 AT 56,000 MILES, $625. ON 6/24/14 I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE SWAY BAR LINKS REPLACED, $271. I CANNOT FIND THE RECEIPT FOR THE FIRST TIRE PURCHASE, BUT BOB SUMEREL TIRES (614)237-6325 WOULD HAVE PURCHASE RECORD OF BOTH TIRE SETS. MY CAR ONLY HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT NOW AND FOR IT TO BE ON ITS THIRD SET OF TIRES DEFINITELY SAYS EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. THIS IS ALSO VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING WITH THESE TIRES WEARING AND IS A CONSTANT WORRY WITH ALL THE CHECKING I DO TO MAKE SURE THE TIRES ARE OK TO DRIVE ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR ITS 60K SERVICE AT APPROX 62K. ALL WAS OK. ABOUT 2 DAYS LATER I NOTICED A FUNNY SMELL IN THE CABIN. I PUT IT DOWN TO WHATEVER CHEMICALS THEY USED ON THE 60K SERVICE. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE 120K SERVICE. THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETED. A WEEK LATER I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND ASKED THEM THE CHECK A YELLOW CRUSTING UNDER THE DASHBOARD IN THE FRONT PASSENGER FOOTWELL. Today, I took my Ford Focus in for service(05/25/2022). I had the oil changed and my vehicle tires rotated.While the service was being performed,I was informed my tire lug nuts were loose and defective in most cases.My advisor told me I should replaced all the lug nuts for safety as she knew of a Ford recall involving the lug nuts. I discovered there was no recall,but there was a class- action lawsuit that was dismissed in 2019.I looked at the old lugs and decided to not keep them on the vehicle and had new ones installed.I have the old lugs nuts for inspection if needed.I do not want to take a chance on my vehicle safety,so that is why I had them replaced.

CAR WAS TAKEN TO FORD DEALER TWICE WHEN GETTING THERE EVERYTHING WORKED FINE THIRD TIME IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK FOR THEM THEY REPLACED DOOR LOCK LATCH 'ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY AND DOOR LOCK SWITCH ASSEMBLY. SIMILAR TO MAN OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS VEHICLE; IT ENDED UP BEING THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. MY MOTHER-IN-LAW WAS DRIVING AND IT SUDDENLY WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. A CAR ALMOST REAR-ENDED HER. SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE NOTICED THAT THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS ON. SHE STARTED IT UP AND "LIMPED" TO THE FORD DEALER. ABOUT $700 LATER, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CHANGED. THERE IS ONLY 30,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND SHE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. SHE IS QUITE UPSET ABOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, AND I DON'T BLAME HER. Three out of four 215/45/r17 Douglas tires bought at Walmart in Piqua oho ended up with bubbles on the sidewall a week after the year from the day they were bought. one right after the other. When i went to have them replaced at a discounted price, i could not because i had to put a spare tire on (it is considerably smaller) causing the tread on one tire to be slightly uneven from the others. so this voided the warranty. Now tell me how passenger side and driver side front tires both end up with sidewall bubbles and one blows out within a week apart? Nothing changed in my driving routine. Bought two nearly new tires to maintain my ability to get around, and a third tire develops a bubble and had to be replaced. The last tire is slowly leaking!? i drive to work and back. I live less than 2 mins from my place of employment. i do still have my paperwork from buying the tires. btw the warranty was never registered correctly because when i tried to call about it they had no idea where to find it. i had to send all sorts of paperwork to them and still got no results.

A MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE INNER SIDEWALLS ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS WERE SPLITTING (AS IF ALONG THE SEAMS) ON THE GOODYEAR WEATHERHANDLER 215/45R17. THE TIRES WERE FIXED BEFORE ANY BLOWOUT OCCURRED, BUT GOODYEAR REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THREE SEPARATE MECHANICS FROM DIFFERENT GARAGES HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT, AND CONFIRMED THAT IT DID NOT OCCUR FROM DAILY WEAR AND TEAR.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW WITH 182 MILES ON IT. I HAD ALL OF THE SERVICE PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT (ALL-STAR FORD IN PALESTINE, TX), BEGINNING WITH THE OIL CHANGES. AT THE FIRST OIL CHANGE, I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED. AFTER THAT, I HAD THEM ROTATED AT EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE (WITHOUT EXCEPTION) AND AT 18,940 MILES, I AM TOLD THAT ALL FOUR OF THE TIRES ARE "CUPPED" ON THE INSIDE TREAD. ALL THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO DO IS SELL ME MORE TIRES AND SUGGEST THAT I HAVE THEM ROTATED AT EVERY OIL CHANGE. FOR A CAR THAT HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND REPLACE THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE AS NEEDED. I HAVE A 2010 FORD FOCUS THAT HAS A "RAW GAS SMELL IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND IN THE TRUNK" AREA. WE OWN A 2010 FORD FOCUS. WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM HER COLLEGE TOWN AT 75MPH, THE CARE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. LUCKILY THEY WERE ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. BY THE TIME THE REPAIR SHOP HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THE CAR, IT STARTED UP WITHOUT INCIDENT AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER INCONCLUSIVE DIAGNOSTICS BY THE REPAIR SHOP AND MY RESEARCH ON THIS WEBSITE, WE HAD TO ASSUME IT WAS SIMILAR TO TOO MANY OTHER IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS. On June 22 myself and my wife were pulling out of the Food Lion Parking Lot. As we proceeded out to the main Road the gas pedal stuck. The car kept accelerating and know matter what I did I could free the gas pedal. Because of that we hit 3 cars in the intersection. Our car literally exploded putting Myself and my wife in the hospital .My wife has had 3 surgeries for a broken pelvis.She is still in serious condition.Myself I suffered 3 broken ribs and a lacerated liver. I WAS THEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT AND THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON.THE YELLOW LIGHT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON BEFORE AND I HAD GOODYEAR AND AUTO ZONE CHECK IT ON THEIR COMPUTER AND IT CAME UP WITH CODE P2135 THROTTLE SENSOR. THE GUY AT AUTO ZONE TOLD ME TO ENTER THAT CODE ON UTUBE AND SEE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE DID TO FIX THE ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY STORIES ON YOUTUBE ETC REGARDING THIS ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDELY KNOW ISSUE AND ON ANOTHER FORD CAR THEY HAD A RECALL FOR IT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY KEPT IT FOR A FEW DAYS,THEY TOLD ME SINCE THEY COULD NOT GET THE YELLOW LIGHT TO COME ON THEY CAN NOT TELL WHAT THE ISSUE IS AND THEREFORE NOT FIX IT? Multiple mechanics working at and including but not limited to: Firestone, discount tires, Midas, Walmart, independent mechanics have informed me the rear wheels can not be realigned with the front wheels due to how it was designed. This has caused my rear wheels to become more and more out of alignment with no way to repair the misalignment. So all steering components have been more and more hard to control and are being destroyed at a faster rate. Including but not limited to: car sound deadening stuff. Bolts, nuts, screws, undercarriage, tire wear, the front alignment etc. It has not been inspected by anyone but mechanics.

VEHICLE STALLED. TRIED TO RESTART IT, WOULD NOT FIRE UP. IT THEN CAUGHT ON FIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY (I-87N, EXIT 17/MOREAU) VEHICLE WAS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OTHER INDICATION OF TROUBLE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER SHOWED ANY PROBLEM. NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED TO OTHER FORD ENGINE FIRES (DUE TO OVERHEATING/LOSS OF COOLANT) OR WHAT EXACTLY CAUSED IT. INSURANCE DID NOT DO AN INSPECTION (I OWNED THE CAR OUTRIGHT AND ONLY HAD LIABILITY COVERAGE) AND FORD TOTALLY BLEW ME OFF. HAVE PICTURES, BUT THEY LOOK LIKE ANY OTHER CAR WITH AN ENGINE FIRE.

I DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR EACH WAY TO WORK AND BACK. DURING THIS TRIP I AM SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON TWO LANE MAJOR ACCESS ROADWAYS WITH SPEEDS OF 55 MPH. DRIVING AT A STEADY 60 MPH THROUGHOUT MOST OF MY TRIP, I HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE ORANGE WRENCH THAT SIGNIFIES "LIMP HOME MODE" CAME ON. SINCE HALF OF MY TRIP IS ON ROADS THAT ARE RURAL IN AMENITIES, I WAS UNABLE TO LIMP TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP OR AUTO PARTS PLACE THE OFFER TESTING SERVICES. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD BE DONE UNDER A ROLL AS IT IS A 5SPD. THE CAR RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AND RAN PERFECT THE REST OF THE WAY HOME (ABOUT 25 MILES). THIS VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR THREE MORE WEEKS AND THEN BEGAN DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. ONE OF THE THINGS I NOTICED THE MOST IS THAT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO DO THIS OVER 60 MPH AS ONE DAY A WEEK I AM TRAVELING AT MORE HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70 ISH) AND IT HAS NEVER DONE THIS UNDER THAT TYPE OF LOAD. THIS HAD BEEN AN OFF AND ON OCCURRENCE SINCE APRIL, YET HAS BECOME MORE COMMON. I BORROWED A SCAN TOOL FROM MY NEIGHBOR, DROVE THE CAR WITH IT PLUGGED IN, AND TODAY CAME UP WITH TWO CODES IN LESS THAN 11 MILES OF DRIVING. P2135 AND P2111 WHICH WHEN I CONTACTED MY FORD SERVICE TECHNICIAN CAME OUT TO BE THROTTLE BODY CODES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY FOCUS SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SPEED DESPITE MY FOOT REMAINING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE MODIFICATIONS THAT WERE MADE ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. ZERO EFFORT STEERING, 2. A HAND CONTROL FOR ACCELERATION AND BRAKING, 3. A BACKUP STEERING PUMP IN CASE THE STEERING WENT OUT I WOULD STILL HAVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, 4. A ?V? GRIP HANDLE WITH COUNTERWEIGHT ON THE STEERING WHEEL, 5, A PEDAL GUARD OVER THE GAS PEDAL. THIS VEHICLE IS PART OF THE NATIONAL FLEET OWNED BY THE US POSTAL SERVICE. THE DRIVER WAS TRYING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IN FEBRUARY IT WAS STILL COLD WEATHER SO NEVER TURNED ON THE A/C WHEN I DID THE TEST DRIVE, NEVER WOULD THINK THAT A ALMOST NEW CAR THAT IS PRE-OWNED WOULD HAVE A BAD A/C SYSTEM!! I TRULY THINK THE A/C WAS BAD AND THEY KNEW IT PRIOR TO SELLING THE CAR TO ME. NOW HAVING SQUEAKS WHEN I BACK OUT MY GARAGE IN THE MORNINGS, RECENTLY HAD IT CHECKED AND THE SAY MY BACK DRUMS ARE NO LONGER ROUND AND NEED TO BE RESURFACED OR REPLACED!! ONLY HAVE HAD THIS CAR 6 WKS NOW AND SO FAR HAVE TWO MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH IT, HAVE NOTIFIED THE BBB ABOUT THE A/C, GUESS NOW HAVE TO CONTACT THEM ABOUT THE BRAKES TOO.! *TR

MOM AND I WAS DRIVING A RENTAL. 2010 FORD FOCUS. EARLIER THAT DAY SHE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AN COMPLAINED IT WAS WOBBLING WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL STILL. FOR ME, AT FIRST WHEN I WAS DRIVING I THOUGHT IT WAS THE WIND MAKING THE CAR WOBBLE, BUT AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND NOTICE MY BACK RIGHT TIRE ROTATION WAS VERY UNUSUAL (IT JUST DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT) SO I SLOW DOWN TO FEEL THE SAME REACTION. WHEN I DID MY CAR FISHTAILED INTO THE MEDIAN WALL OF THE HIGHWAY (SMASHING IN THE RIGHT SIDE OR DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR) (WHEN HITTING THE WALL , THE BREAKS AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP) AND BOUNCED ME ACROSS TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY HITTING THE METAL RAIL THAT HELP ME STOP ROLLING, ENDED UP WITH MINOR INJURIES, SERIOUS HEADACHES, AND A SO CALLED TICKET OF $130 FAILURE TO CONTROL MY VEHICLE I DON'T KNOW IF FORD FOCUS FUNCTION THAT WAY, BUT I WILL NEVER ADVISE ANYONE TO EVER GET A FORD! *TR

THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEELS LOCK IF THE CONTACT KEY IS IN THE OFF POSITION AS DESCRIBED IN MY OWNER'S FOCUS 2010(MANUAL TRANSMISSION) BOOKLET IF WE WANT TO PULL THE FOCUS BEHIND MY 1998 30 FOOT WINNEBAGO ADVENTURER. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I AM WONDERING WHAT ACTION I CAN TAKE NEXT. I OWN A BRAND NEW 2010 FORD FOCUS PURCHASED IN FEB 2010. THE CAR HAS A TERRIBLE SMELL ON THE INSIDE, I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND ALL THEY DID WAS SPRAY SOMETHING IN THE CAR AND SEND US HOME. THE SMELL IS SO BAD THAT ALL I CAN DO IS BACK THE CAR OUT OF MY GARAGE OPEN THE DOORS AND WINDOWS AND AFTER DOING THAT FOR SEVERAL HOURS A DAY I DRIVE IT BACK INTO MY GARAGE TO SIT. I CAN'T DRIVE MY BRAND NEW FORD ANYWHERE BECAUSE I GET SO SICK FROM THE SMELL. I HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT MY PROBLEM AND THEY SENT ME TO TOUSLEY FORD. TOUSLEY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR A FEW DAYS AND BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS THE PLASTIC PARTS INSIDE THE CAR, AND CLAIM THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT MY "TOXIC" CAR. I AM WONDERING WHO I CAN TALK TO GET AN ANSWER AND SOME HELP GETTING MY VEHICLE REPLACE BY ANOTHER 2010 FORD FOCUS THAT DOESN'T HAVE A VERY BAD SMELL IN IT. MY HUSBAND AND I GET SICK EVERY TIME WE GET IN THE CAR TO DRIVE IT DOWN THE ROAD. THE HOTTER THE INSIDE OF THE CAR GETS THE WORSE THE SMELL. THE DEALERSHIP EVEN TOOK THE CARPET IN THE TRUCK OUT TO SEE BUT FOUND NOTHING BUT A TERRIBLE SMELL. FORD HAS ADMITTED THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO SPRAY ANYTHING MORE INSIDE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WILL "MASK" THE SMELL IT ALREADY HAS L.
