I believe the OEM 12v battery that is used in the Ford Maverick hybrid is underpowered and has issues that seem to plague the vehicle. I’ve owned the truck for almost two years now and started getting “battery saver” alerts when the truck would sit for a few days over the week or during a vacation. But recently I’ve been getting the warning far more frequently and not even siting for more than 24 hours. Last month I had a warning that the power could turn off at any moment and need to pull over immediately. The warning went away after powering the vehicle down and turning back on. Last weekend the car was completely dead after using it all week and only letting it sit Saturday evening to Monday morning. The battery seems to be an issue that plagues the vehicle and I think an investigation needs to be conducted to have this corrected. I even see new 2025 models having similar issues.

CV axles failed at 30,000 miles, repaired under warranty. Replaced axles have failed again at 60,000 miles, no warranty. No hard driving, simply highway miles. This seems to be common in these vehicles and need to be recalled for defective parts. This has caused me poor fuel mileage, damage to new tires, instability while driving, and possible unknown damage to transaxle.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brakes made a loud screeching sound and the vehicle surged forward before coming to a complete stop. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the passenger’s side axle was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

I bought a pre-owned "Gold Certified" 2023 Ford Maverick from a Ford dealer. The vehicle had around 32,000 or so miles at purchase. Soon after purchase, discovered that while accelerating from around 50-60 mph, the front end of the vehicle started heavily shaking without warning. The vehicle was taken to the Ford dealer who informed us that both front axles needed to be replaced. They informed us that they have seen this issue with other Ford Mavericks. The repairs were covered under warranty, and nobody was injured. This is an unsettling, since I have seen on this website numerous complaints about this same issue. Yet there has not been a TSB or recall to my knowledge.

I am experiencing a serious safety issue with my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid, which involves powertrain malfunction and sudden loss of power while driving. The issue first appeared on [XXX], when I received a Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power warning in the FordPass app and noticed that the vehicle was losing power intermittently. Since then, I have taken my vehicle to the dealership three times for diagnostics and repairs, but the issue persists. Service history and failed repair attempts: [XXX] – I visited Folsom Lake Ford to address this issue, but the dealer claimed the vehicle was “operating normally.” [XXX] – I took my car to Future Ford of Sacramento, requesting diagnostics and repairs for the transmission. The dealership replaced the CV axles but did not acknowledge or resolve the powertrain issue. [XXX] – The same error occurred again, and I returned to Future Ford of Sacramento. The dealer once again failed to find or fix the problem. [XXX] – Hours after picking up the car, the Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power error reappeared in FordPass. Possible Link to Known Ford Maverick Issues: Ford has already issued recalls for similar problems affecting Ford Maverick (2022–2023) and Bronco Sport models related to 12V battery failures that cause power loss. However, my VIN is not included in any official recall, despite showing the same symptoms. This issue is extremely dangerous, as the vehicle unexpectedly loses power while driving, creating a serious risk of an accident, especially on highways. Suspected Fraud by the Dealer: Despite multiple service visits, the dealership has not provided a detailed diagnostic report. I suspect the dealer is simply resetting the error codes instead of fixing the problem. Investigate whether this is a widespread issue among 2023 Ford Maverick models. Determine if Ford should issue a recall for this powertrain problem. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Car was shuddering and vibrating on acceleration brought to dealership and was told I needed front axles with 16k on odometer . It took over a month to get parts and the dealership was kind enough to give me a car while Parts came in. These new parts are Likely also faulty as the vibrations are starting again under acceleration .The car now has 29k I will be bringing the car in again soon for other recalls and repair but this shouldn’t be happening . Heaven knows what other damage is being done . We need a part redesign and a recall asap . Thanks

[XXX]: Driving to work on the highway during rush hour. My vehicle started slowing down and wouldn't go out of neutral. The instrument panel lit up and the display panel brought up collision ahead. A lot of other codes and things popped up as well. I avoided being hit by a semi truck and was able to pull over to the shoulder. I turned my vehicle off and on. The vehicle went into drive and i to got it off the highway. It was in limp mode after that. I tried turning the vehicle off and on several times, and to no prevail. I called a tow truck to have them take it to the dealership. Keep in mind that this happened so fast and I was more worried about getting out of the way to avoid a collision. To hear that this is a recall is ridiculous. I drive with kids in the backseat, and I will never feel comfortable driving this vehicle again! I waited 9 months to get the maverick and I've had nothing but issues. Under 5k miles, I had a code pop up saying they detected air in the engine compartment. I was on the road trip to Canada at the time. I spent my vacation worrying if I was going to make it home. Luckily I did and it needed an "update". 2 other times, my left blinker failed. When it failed, my hazard lights would go off. Zumbrota ford "fixed" it the first time. Only for it to happen a month later. Zumbrota ford said they didn't know what the issue was, but they "fixed it". Now I had this even occur where the vehicle would go into neutral and limp mode. I'm not taking anymore chances, risking my life, driving this ford maverick. I've wasted so much time dealing with issue after issue and have missed several days of work. I just want a SAFE functioning vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving on [XXX] [XXX] at approximately 9:15 PM vehicle suddenly lost power in the middle of traffic, couldn't keep speed (was driving roughly 70 mph) then started losing speed down to 30 mph although my foot was pressing the gas pedal to the floor. Warning lights came on, a message about being unable to engage a gear, loss of collision sensors and check battery, service engine light came on. Because I was on the truck and car portion of the highway (in further most left lane) I was nearly struck several times. Hazards were going on and off. When I made it to the shoulder I called FORD 24 hour service. I was on an out of town trip from PA to NYC a little more than halfway there. The rep told me Ford policy was to tow to the nearest dealership or within 50 miles, I'd have to cover the rest, quoted at $175 to take me to the dealership of origin & my home. By this time it was after 10:30. I was 49 miles from my destination so I asked for the closest dealership to that. Was charged $22.50 for 4 mile overage. Was NOT informed the tow service couldn't pick me up from the highway, rather was told I'd be texted with an eta, which came 10 minutes later with a 40-70 minute estimate. Then the tow company called to say I'd have to get state police to tow me off highway first, THEN call back with a pick up address. Not wanting to wait on the dangers shoulder ANOTHER 2 HOURS, I had to ride the shoulder with hazards on approximately 1 mile to get off highway. Car wasn't able to go past 30 mph and dropped as low as 10. The service center also gave tow driver wrong address (showroom not service) and tow driver dropped my car off in a tow zone once we found the service center. Disgusted with the lack of accountability and responsibilities, I wasn't safe until 2:30 AM. The next morning called service from hotel to beg for same day appointment as I was stranded, was almost sent home with a "few days or more" diagnostic estimate even after mentioning BCM recall news (no notice y INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

After having recall 23E09 performed the vehicle loses power and shifts to Neutral while driving. When this happens I am unable to shift back to Drive. The display reads “Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed.” The "D" in the gear shift flashes. Once speed is reduced to around 5 MPH, the parking brake turns on automatically. The check engine light turns on, a "gear light" on the dash board is on, along with traction control light. The display then reads, “Shift to Park,” “Service AdvanceTrac,” “Hill Start Assist Not Available,” “Pre-Collision Assist Not Available,” and “Service vehicle soon.” After turning the vehicle off and back on again, the vehicle will drive normally with a check engine light still present. The check engine light eventually turns off until the cycle repeats itself and the same issue occurs again. Code: U1011 - Invalid Internal Control Module Monitoring Data Received from ECM/PCM Code: U1028 - ABS Control Module Received Invalid Data from ECM/PCM 'A' Code: U1010 - Invalid Internal Control Module Monitoring Data Received from Hybrid Powertrain Control Module These codes are present each time this issue occurs. This vehicle is unsafe to drive as it loses power on the freeway without notice. This has happened to me 5 times since having recall 23E09 performed on [XXX]. Many other Ford Maverick owners are reporting the same issue on online forums after having this recall. Ford needs to take action before this kills somebody. I have taken the vehicle to Tri State Ford in Amarillo, TX and they say that they are unable to replicate the issue and that they cannot reprogram the PCM & SOBDMC until Ford releases an official fix. The odometer readings when the vehicle has lost power have been 2135, 2437, 3130, 3201, and 3864. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I had 2 recalls fixed about 3 weeks ago. Today I was driving & my Maverick malfunctioned. (Maybe it's what they call Limp mode.) Many alerts & icons started flashing, I was prompted to pull over & call a dealer. I pulled over, was able to take some pics but some icons were no longer showing. I tried restarting the vehicle after a couple mins = same thing. I shut if off waited a few minutes & it worked. Well, check engine is still lit & some of the safety features won't turn on. I have copilot 360, lane keeping, etc, but most of those features are still affected. I called the dealer & am waiting for a call back. Many other Maverick hybrid owners have told me this happened after their recall fix. I wish I didn't get the recalls fixed.

On [XXX] at approx. 9:30PM I was traveling on [XXX] in Garland, TX, at 70mph when my vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power, with speed immediately dropping to about 35-40mph. Cluster showed prompts saying 1) cannot use selected gear at this speed (light under "D" was flashing), 2) pre-collision not available; 3) Airbags sensor bad; 4) power-train warning; and, several others before telling me engine needed service. When I tried to accelerate it would go no faster than 25mph. When I applied the brakes and released them it would then accelerate to 35-40mph on its own. Engine light started flashing. When able to do so I pulled over and turned vehicle off. I started it back up and engine light stayed lit, but it continued to experience loss of power and go no faster than 25mph. Again, when I applied the brakes and released them it would accelerate to 35-40mph all on its own. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Camera freezes when I'm in reverse. Backed up in to a telephone pole last year and had several thousand dollars in damage. Paid the deductible, my rates went up and my cars value went down. Was backing out of parking space yesterday and almost hit a small child when it froze again. Ford needs to fix this issue that they have known about for ahwile.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the brake warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal; however, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The contact shifted into neutral and coasted to a patch of grass where the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was turned off and after a while and shifted into park and restarted. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and became aware that the lights were no longer illuminated and continued driving. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed there were no recalls on the VIN. The contact stated that approximately 3 months after the first failure, the failure reoccurred while driving approximately 45 MPH, causing the contact to coast onto the off-ramp and a curb while in neutral to stop the vehicle. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to restart and drive the vehicle to the dealer with the hazard lights activated. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

Regenerative braking system is not in sync with traditional braking system at low speeds. Braking will studder and cause the truck to jump as it brakes to a stop.
Apr 10, 2024
The brake system in Hybrid model Ford Mavericks is unreliable and inconsistent in the way it applies the brakes at slow speeds, causing the driver to over or under apply the brakes and making the vehicle unsafe and unpredictable. My 2023 model braked normally for the first 6 months of ownership and then started to grab at slow speeds when attempting to use the brakes. When coming to a stop it will grab suddenly. It is extremely challenging to drive in stop and go traffic. Ford has issued a software fix, TSB23-2060, the second one they've issued. Neither fix has solved the issue. I often under apply the brakes in anticipation of the brakes grabbing and then have to overapply at the last moment to compensate. It really is unsafe and needs to be fixed. I hope the NHTSA can force the issue.

Brakes surge shortly after startup causing vehicle to lunge forward multiple times when at a stop. Has happened multiple times since getting vehicle new with less than 4500 miles. No warning lights has not been inspected by dealership but many other people have mentioned this happens to them frequently on Ford Maverick truck forums.
Apr 05, 2024
On occasion, at slow speeds, typically when coming to a slow stop (such as at a stop sign or light), the vehicle's brakes appear to "grab", car "shutters", feels as if car's brakes are locking or vehicle is about to turn off. I am the original owner of this vehicle, less than 7,000 miles, this problem has happened approximately 10 times. This problem could have resulted in a dangerous situation, the last time this happened someone was crossing in front of me at a crosswalk and I was not sure vehicle was going to stop.

The plastic cooling system overflow expansion tank sign is stress cracking in the inlet tubing at approximately 8K miles. It has gotten worse with my odometer at 12K now. I have not contacted Ford regarding a warranty replacement because they would just replace it with the same defective part. I have further investigated this issue and found several documented cases with complete failure of the tank at a little as 20 K miles.

2023 Ford Maverick 2.0L engine current mileage 5300 Noticed oil leak on top of engine valve cover. Ford Mechanic stated there are (3) current service related engine leak issues with Maverick. (1) Plastic valve cover cracked (2) Turbo Oil leak (3) Timing Cover Leak. Mechanic stated a die test will need to be performed. After review of online forums, this appears to be a more common issue and can cause engine fire, especially since High Pressure fuel pump is also located on top of the engine. With Ford spreading repairs across three known issues, A recall investigation should be opened. Repair Sevice schedule for 9/19/24. Can provide repair invoices if desired after service. From research the valve cover, most likely culprit based on oil leak location, is a 2 week repair.

My vehicle stopped while driving down the road. I received the following errors: Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed Powertrain malfunction/reduced power Pre-collision assist not available Service engine soon warning Service AdvanceTrac Hill assist not available I was able to pull my vehicle off the road and get it parked. After letting it sit, I was able to get my vehicle started with only an engine light error. I attempted to take my vehicle to Anderson Ford in Rockford and they were confrontational. I just wanted to leave my vehicle and get a loaner, but they wouldn't confirm an issue and told me to leave my vehicle and fend for myself. They must know there's an issue and they want nothing to do with fixing the issue. They were willing to put me at risk instead of trying to help.

While driving on the highway at normal speed in normal conditions, I suddenly lost ABS, traction control, downhill assist, hold assist, AdvanceTrac, Cruise control, and a severe reduction of power. The engine went into limp mode and would not rev past 3k RPM. This made driving on the highway very dangerous as I could not keep up speed and risked getting rear-ended. The wrench icon came on, as well as ABS and traction control. Cruise control would not work. Messages appeared stating "Service engine soon", "Service AdvanceTrac", "Downhill assist issue", "Hold assist issue", and a few more I can't recall. Sometimes they go away on its own and the vehicle works fine, sometimes restarting the vehicle clears the issue. The issues will appear randomly, sometimes very soon after starting the car and driving, sometimes 100 miles later.

On Friday, May 17th around 2:00pm I was driving approximately 25mph when I got an abrupt warning and the truck started to drive differently. I don’t think the vehicle was responding to the gas pedal normally. The first warning said something about selected gear engaging at lower speed. Then there was a message about the pre-collision assist not working, hill ascent not working, and something else - reduced powertrain/service engine soon/advancetrac or something like that. As I pulled over and was slowing down, the truck abruptly threw itself into park while going 5-10mph. I turned it off and then back on and put it in drive. The truck began accelerating without my foot on the gas pedal. My truck got all the way up past 20mph before I slowed down. I tried to record this with my phone as there was no traffic. I could not see well what I was filming because I was looking at the road. My safety was put at risk because had this happened on the highway or a road with no shoulder, things could have been a lot more dangerous. It was scary enough going at a lower speed on a street without traffic. I noticed after this happened that I had a third open recall for the powertrain control module. If I would have known I had this recall and how serious it was, I would have brought it in immediately. Ford should have done more to ensure vehicles impacted by this recall were contacted ASAP. I brought my truck in to the Ford dealership first thing this morning and I am waiting to hear back. The service agent was aware of this ‘limp mode’ situation occurring. I believe I was the first Maverick owner to bring a truck in for this issue at my dealership. There were no warnings that this might occur. I went from driving leisurely to having to figure out what all the beeping and flashing alerts were and manage to get to the side of the road in a truck that was not driving/responding normally. Then the truck started accelerating without my foot on the pedal! I have a video of this

We were unable to accelerate and quickly pulled to the shoulder. [XXX] is very busy and dangerous. It would not move forward while in drive and pushed on accelerator it would not accelerate. We called with Ford Pass for a tow. They towed it to Dickson TN Ford dealership and it is still there. They were to call us once they found out the issue. Approximately around [XXX] a.m, [XXX], I was on my way to on the [XXX] . I was going driving around 75-78 mph when all of sudden my 2023 Maverick drop in speed and power suddenly. I looked at my dashboard and saw mph dropped to around 50. I had no knowledge of what was taking place at the time. I tried to press my acceleration pedal and the mph still was dropping, so I managed to get over to the far right lane so I could get to the shoulder. During this event several warning lights flashed, such as check engine soon, crash assist not available, power train malfunction ect. I turned the vehicle off and back on - it still had the same messages- I managed to drive the 5-10miles I had left on my route to work @ 33mph. Once at safe location I contacted a tow truck to haul my vehicle to Hennessey Ford for diagnostic and answers. I've never had any of these issues to take place since owning my truck. Never experienced Loss of power ever in my life. This is truly a event that has left me stunned and wondering will this truly be taken care of and addressed. It's a constant reminder in my head and and it also has prompted me to thank God for my life as well as others because if I hadn't left home to go to work about 30mins earlier than normally due to the traffic which would be pretty thick I may not be here today to tell this story, because there was no warning whatsoever. First time i noticed an issue was [XXX] felt vibration and took to Freeport Ford, Freeport, IL 61030. They took for a test drive and noticed nothing. I returned to Freeport Ford on 01/30/25 for the same issue, violent shaking when accelerating worse on an incline..They told me it was tires and that the 2 fronts had to be replaced 4/32 tread at this point they placed the 2 good rear tires on the front which didn't change a thing, I ordered 2 new tires, and on 01/31/25 took to a Chevrolet dealer in Freeport (friend of mine), they diagnosed that i had 2 faulty CV axles, i let Freeport Ford know of this diagnosis. New tires were installed 02/04/25 on the rear, still didn't change a thing, i told them I had checked the Maverick Forums and found out several complaints about faulty CV axles prematurely failing, at this point they stated they have ordered me a new set of axles, and let me drive out of the dealership on those faulty axles..Now playing the waiting game to see if axles come in first or if a catastrophic axles failure occurs first. Definitely not happy with Ford at this point and believe this needs to be a recall at this time due to all the complaints. Vehicle drivers front door is very hard to operate, very hard to shut, window wont roll all the way down. Vehicle makes popping noise when operating drivers front door. Door wont close all the way at times due to door check binding inside of door. Ford has had a customer satisfaction service repair for Escape model vehicles with similar problems. Ford reference for this action is 23B56. Due to the door not being able to close properly this vehicle will require repair and the vehicle taken out of service because it is not safe to drive with the door not latching properly. The spot welds are broken away from the door causing the door check and mounting bracket to be pushed into the door when closing, this causes the door to not be properly latched.

My driver side door hinge has a broken spot weld and has come unattached from the door and it goes inside and blocks the power window from coming down when the door is closed. Ford has had these breaking hinge problems since 2019. I took it to the Ford dealership for them to look at the problem and they want me to pay for it. I have attached pictures. As of October 2023, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating a potential defect in the front door weld of the 2020 and 2021 Ford Escape and its hybrid variant. This defect could cause the door to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is moving, which is a significant safety risk. Some owners have reported a popping noise followed by the door opening, while others have reported their doors not opening at all after a creaking noise. Some owners have also reported being unable to close the vehicle after the door opens. If the issue requires a recall, it could affect up to 346,071 vehicles.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact there was a leak on the floor of the vehicle from underneath the windshield on the passenger’s side. The contact stated that there was mold forming underneath the floor mats. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cabin air filter was fractured and caused a leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the failure was a known issue; however, the repair was not covered under warranty or a recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 37,000.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the strong odor of mold and mildew was present inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who informed the contact that the failure was caused by faulty floor pan body plugs which were improperly sealed causing water to intrude into the floorboard of the vehicle and causing mold and mildew to develop inside the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 900.

Water is leaking into the vehicle from the windshield cowl causing mold and wet passenger front carpets. It will be going to the dealer for the third time on Tuesday, December 26th to attempt to fix. The vehicle smells of mold and may be a health hazard. I cannot park it outside without fear the problem will get worse.

Since new in Sept 2023 this vehicle has suffered from consistent charging problems with the 12 volt battery, it sends "deep sleep" warnings to the Ford App and disables certain safety features. Charging the battery only restores functionality temporarily, driving the car ends up depleting the 12 volt battery over time. It affects all Ford Maverick Hybrids including mine.

The wiring harness on this vehicle is made of a soy based material, I had a rodent chew through this coating and my wiring harness, it caused my rear turn signal to go out, I have a 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty on the vehicle but Ford does not cover this, you have to pay to have it fixed yourself and they replace it with the same material, I am worried that it will happen again and again I will have to pay to have it fixed, I feel that Ford should be responsible for this and have it fixed. I found out that Ford is not the only manufacturer that uses this product.

- Lithium Battery risk- "deep sleep" vehicle goes into deep sleep and is dark, no interior lights. SSM 51725 was performed - what it accomplished was removing the APP notification of deep sleep, not the problem. There are numerous similar complaints on the "Maverick forum", usually with the recommendation to "drive more", initially a poor battery connection was thought to be the problem, that has been resolved. The battery has been tested and been to be found in compliance - the issue is not the starting capacity but in the reserve capacity or the battery management system. Some are AGM some are flooded the risk is hybrid owners are carrying battery jump boxes for safety and reliability, OEM battery replacement is a struggle at the dealership, once deep sleep issues hit, battery issues change to not starting. The danger is that the owner is using a portable jump box in risky situations plus the always risk of carrying an additional lithum battery in the passenger compartment for reliability. Many owners have replaced the original battery, out of pocket, with good results

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
5 complaints
Loss of motive control ongoing issue. This is documented problem being investigated by NTHSA, R2Q4014. Functional issue: • Engine flips into Neutral unexpectedly. Vehicle coasts to a stop, where it flips into Park on its own. • Vehicle requires a restart to move gear out of Neutral. After restarting vehicle, vehicle can operate on limited power that maxes out at about 35 mph. Acceleration is dramatically reduced, gradually ramping up as the vehicle continues to drive — the acceleration pedal does not control speed. Coming to a complete stop while driving with the vehicle in this reduced power mode requires another gradual ramp up to speed, making typical street driving difficult because it may take 30-45 seconds for the vehicle to ramp up to adequate speed (ramp from zero to 35mph), frustrating other drivers behind he vehicle who may think the slow speed is intentional. • After the vehicle has sat powered down for a number of minutes, it can be started up again at full power. I have seen this refractory period as low as 15 minutes and as high at 45-ish minutes. This issue has happened to me multiple times, 9 as of last count. Ford has attempted a fix twice now, and the issue persists. I would be happy to discuss full experience and how Ford has responded, or rather not responded, with your investigative team. Thank you for looking into this issue.

On 7/27/24 I was driving my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid with approximately 17,500 miles on the New York State Thruway @ approximately 70 mph. All of a sudden without warning the vehicle lost propulsion power. All types of warning lights appeared on the dashboard and the vehicle slowed down to 35mph. I could not control the acceleration or speed of the vehicle with the gas pedal. The vehicle stayed at 35 mph unless I applied the brakes. I was able to exit the interstate several miles down the road and have the vehicle towed to the nearest Ford dealer. This vehicle malfunction caused an extremely dangerous situation as I was almost rear ended several times by vehicles approaching from the rear that were not aware of my lack of ability to keep up with the flow of traffic. Ford repaired the vehicle 3 days later. When I was at the dealer picking up the car I was informed this is a very common problem with the Hybrid model. This needs to be corrected before someone is killed because of this common malfunction.

I was driving at 60-70 MPH on the highway and lost gas power. The electrical power in the hybrid motor continued working, but I was unable to accelerate or maintain full speed. IMPORTANT: I had this very thing repaired in accordance with a previous recall and an identical issue in January, approximately five months ago. I am reporting in case an additional recall and new software patch is needed.

The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the "Service Advancetrac", "Service Engine Soon", "Power Train Malfunction" "Reduced Power", "Pre-collision Assist Not Available" and "Hill Assist Not available" messages were displayed, and the vehicle decelerated to approximately 28 MPH. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that he was able to continue driving; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 28 MPH. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving on another occasion. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

The truck shudders when turning off the ICE and switching to electric. It has progressively gotten worse since around 5000 miles. Group research on online forums suggests this is the damper on the flywheel. Because it's progressively getting worse, even at 8000 miles, I am concerned it will leave me stranded when the whole transmission blows apart. It makes an awful noise that sounds like grinding when the shuddering occurs. It does not happen every time the engine turns off, but the entire transition between electric and ICE is extremely rough.

On 1028/24, driving at approximately 55 mph in the right lane of a local highway, the front collision braking system engaged almost totally stopping my vehicle. There were no vehicles, animals, nor pedestrians in front of my vehicle. I was able to pull to the shoulder. The collection detection icon appeared on the screen, as well as the check engine light, and the wrench. Then a message saying collision warning system unavailable, then service vehicle immediately. The drive gear dial remained in drive (D) position and was flashing. From there, with my warning light activated, I was able to get the vehicle to go up to 25 mph in order to drive to the Ford dealership nearby. I was told by the service department that they operate on appointments only, I would "try to look at it soon." The Ford Pass App states a powertrain malfunction, pre-collision assist not available, and service engine soon warning. Even if the system resets itself when vehicle turned back on, it is totally unsafe to drive in traffic not knowing if these systems will unexpected fail again, causing an accident and injury. I understand that this problem has occurred with other drivers on this model in the recent past.

Yesterday, May 22nd, my 2023 Hybrid Maverick stalled while I was in the middle lane. Fortunately I was able to quickly get over to the shoulder but had absolutely no power. The D-drive gear position light was blinking orange light. Warning message came up on the dash, saying the vehicle won't operate in that gear. I looked down and the shift wheel was in the drive position, but the orange light was not lit on the shifter. I then got error messages, Service Engine Soon Warning, Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power Warning, Pre-Collision Assist Not Available Warning. This was really rattling, to have a modern vehicle, with only 20,000 miles stop operating in heavy traffic. It is the second time, this incident happens. The last time was on March 25th.
May 23, 2024
The powertrain suddenly stopped and did not allow for acceleration. I was put in Risk because this was during a drive in the streets and it happened all of a sudden. I have seen this problem reported multiple times on Reddit.
Apr 21, 2024
I was driving on the interstate and the gear shift light started blinking. Then I started getting warning lights on the dash: - Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed - Powertrain malfunction/reduced power - Pre-collision assist not available - Service engine soon warning - Hill assist not available The car then abruptly slowed down to 35 mph and continued driving at 35 mph even when applying gas. The vehicle would slow down when the brake was applied, however releasing the brake, caused the car to accelerate to 35 mph. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership, however it was the next day, after the car had been turned off for multiple hours. The dealership did not find any active codes, so there was no "fix". Abruptly coming to a stop on the interstate is scary and life-threatening. Ford needs to fix this issue as there could have been a catastrophic accident, had other motorists not been paying attention!
Apr 16, 2024
Driving no more than 40 mph, suddenly “gear shift will engage at low speeds” pops up. At this point there is no acceleration. Then when I get to stop at about 1mp it jerks me into an e-brake, immediately prompting “powertrain error”, “check engine”, “hill climb assist not available”, “collision warning not available”. This all started after the last recall was performed. This is now the second time this has done this. I am lucky it did not do this on the highway itself.

Bad CV axles causing vibration while accelerating.
Apr 03, 2025
I recently reported my Ford maverick for the failure of the front right CV joint/axle at 22k miles. Well when I picked it up from Ford. They notified me that the front left is also bad. And I'm at 23k miles. These are clearly an issue that's happening everywhere.
Mar 05, 2025
The cv joint axles are failing. No axles on a new car or truck should EVER fail under 100k miles. Ford maverick axles are failing at under 50k miles. And mine failed at 22k miles. And Ford will only replace 1 at a time. Not only is this a manufacturer defect that can cause accidents or injury but Ford needs to yet again be held accountable. No one pays good money for a factory faulty vehicle.

When having the vehicle in reverse, the rear-camera’s image oftentimes freezes for several moments which causes unreal expectations of what is actually in the rear and how close objects actually are. This has caused fear to my wife, and she prefers not to drive the vehicle in part due to this unresolved issue.

Shortly after startup the infotainment screen on my Maverick froze. After shifting into reverse it was unable to display the reverse camera image. I attempted several shifts between Drive, Park, and Reverse and it remained frozen. I attempted a short key cycle, powering the truck down, including opening the drivers door in an attempt to cycle power to the infotainment and upon restart it remained frozen. After arriving at my destination and leaving the power off for 10-15 minutes it returned to normal behavior on the next key cycle. I have video of the failure occurring, including attempted solutions noted above.

Just took delivery of this new vehicle. The windshield is pitted and this leads to difficulty in cleaning the windshield with the wiper fluid and wipers as a result of the increased surface area and surface roughness. In addition, when the sun is low in the sky visibility is affected by the pitting causing excess refraction.

I took my vehicle in to have the transmission looked at. The dealership told me that the problem was resolved. While driving down the road the transmission went into park in the middle of a two lane road. When the vehicle came to a complete stop I was stopped in the middle of the lane and the vehicle transmission would not shift out of park. After getting it to another shop where it is currently located I was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that this is a problem that they are seeing in several Ford vehicles. I contacted Ford who stated that there are no current recalls for this problem. Obvious safety concerns are not being able to control the vehicle when it shifts to park while driving as well as being stopped in the middle of the roadway where a collision is likely.

While driving at highway speed, for no reason, the vehicle signals AdvanceTrac error and signals that the vehicle cannot go into the gear selected. The vehicle immediately slows to a protective reduced power (limp mode) with a max of about 30 mph. My safety was at risk because of the sudden and unexpected deceleration from highway speed. The dash indicated that multiple alerts, most alarming was that Pre-Collision Assist is not available. After turning the vehicle off for a while it would become drivable. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated they could not detect anything wrong. This has happened to me twice on March 20, 2024 and again on March 28, 2024. I had no problem whatsoever until the dealer reprogrammed a computer module associated with a recall. The programming change caused me to have issues when none existed prior. The dealer refused to restore the programming to the original configuration. I read of many that had the same circumstances with their Ford Mavericks on various internet community boards. This is very dangerous and Ford need to develop a fix quickly! I will make my vehicle available to government agency or Ford Motor Company teams for inspection or diagnostics.

I started the Car and it made loud boom boom sounds like as if I was at a loud concert for about 10 seconds. That stopped but then loud static or electrical sound continued even after car was turned off. Re started and the sound continued. The initial sound shook me and wife. Where wife refuses to get back in. Also the initial sound wife said she smelt smoke. I faintly smelled a burnt wire smell. The next day while driving the system made more of the static/ electrical noise and didn’t stop until I parked and shut off system for about 10 min. I will be taking truck into dealer ship tomorrow.

There's a repeated issue for the backup camera. This happens around every other time I put the car in reverse, but for a few seconds only though. The backup camera often lags when reversing. This is a safety hazard when backing up if it's not real-time.

Cracked seam on the crossmember supporting the driver seat. While investigating a squeaking seat. I discovered a hairline crack in the metal that is under the cloth driver seat. Upon further investigation, I discovered that when pressure is applied to the seat, a bigger crack appears where a cross member is joined under the seat. This is causing the seat to flex more than usual putting more friction on the plastic mounts causing the squeaking sound.

My wife and I were involved in an accident where we were stopped and a vehicle rear-ended us at approximately 45mph, centered on the rear of the truck. My wife was in the passenger seat and I was driving. My seat collapsed backwards completely, and my wife's seat collapsed within about 2 inches of the rear seat. When mine collapsed, the headrest came out most of the way, and I slid backwards, hitting the top, back of my head on the rear seat just below the head rest, breaking the skin and leaving a mark of blood visible in the photos.

My 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid had a horrible issue[XXX] I had two recalls (23e09B and 23C41B) done last Friday [XXX] (and an oil change) at Huntington Beach Ford, CA. Yesterday [XXX] I was driving with my daughter to go get food, and while stopped at a light I got numerous error messages and the truck would not move. It was extremely dangerous as I was on the road with cars all around me. I don't remember all the messages but some were Pre-Collision Assist not available, Service AdvanceTrac soon, Hill Start Assist not available, Service Vehicle Soon and a Check Engine Light. Eventually I got the truck to move, but it started accelerating on its own via electric power. Luckily the brakes worked and I was able to pull aside to a side street, stop the vehicle, and have it towed to Huntington Beach Ford, CA. The check engine light is still on, and I believe one of the recalls that reprogrammed the ECU caused this huge safety issue. I have also opened up a case with Ford Corporate ([XXX]) as this is a huge safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

THIRD REPORT SAME PROBLEM: See NHTSA tracking Number 11583215 & Complaint Number 11590922: On [XXX], I was driving 2-4 mph through an apartment complex drive when vehicle came to a sudden and complete stop and switched into park all on its own. Numerous & various instrument cluster warning lights and prompts were going off. After putting back into drive very little power but would accelerate all on its own up to 35-40mph. I had previously taken this vehicle on [XXX], to the dealer (AutoNation Ford, Frisco, Texas) and they kept vehicle four (4) days. Upon return they told me diagnostics showed no alerts on vehicle, thus no problems. So, nothing was done. A second such incident happened on [XXX]. The next day I again took this vehicle to AutoNation to have the previously scheduled brake light Recall fix. At same time asked them to again look at the vehicle for issues in this complaint. I also offered to show them video of the self-acceleration, warning lights & prompts and a possible Recall #24S33 (powertrain control module) for this issue. Autonation rep said I was there only for scheduled recall and refused to look at videos or other information. Vehicle WAS NOT examined. On [XXX], I was driving 2-4 mph through an apartment complex drive when vehicle came to a sudden and complete stop and switched into park all on its own. While driving, the vehicle will suddenly flash a message about gear selection being unavailable until speed is reduced, followed by error messages about collision-assist disabled, ESC disabled, hill-start assist disabled, and service messages. Check engine light and service lights also come on. No response to throttle inputs, once vehicle decelerates to around 1-2 mph electronic parking brake is automatically applied leading to an abrupt stop. Parking brake can then be removed and vehicle put back into drive, however all drive mode selection is disabled and again there is no response to throttle inputs - truck will accelerate on its own up to above 30 mph (do not know top speed as all areas this occurred were 30mph or less, had to ride brakes to maintain speed limit as vehicle was attempting an uncontrolled/uncommanded acceleration). This has happened 3 times, and first occurrence happened after recalls 23E07, 23E09, and 23C41 were completed. Any attempts to clear faults or exit this limp mode condition fail unless the vehicle is turned off and allowed to sit for 5-10 minutes, at which point faults still remain in system however vehicle is no longer in limp mode with functionality now restored to previously disabled systems. Recorded faults from last occurrence on April 05 2024: SOBDMC DTC U1011:86-AF SOBDMC DTC U1028:00-26 PCM DTC U1010:00-AF OBDII DTC U1011-P ABS DTC U0401:00-2F ABS DTC U0131:00-2E ACM DTC U0255:00-28 IPMA DTC U0418:86-AF In my situation all 3 failure events occurred in a low-traffic, low-threat environment. 1st happened when turning onto a 30 mph road and accelerating in low traffic, able to safely pull over. 2nd happened when turning out of my driveway and began to accelerate, again able to safely pull over. 3rd happened when leaving spot in parking lot, able to safely pull over into another spot.

Upon exiting highway and getting on access road, vehicle malfunctioned and indicated to slow down and shift transmission into neutral. I lost speed and was given little if any power to accelerate. I arrived at a red light where I shifted into neutral and then park. I shifted back to drive where I was able to get very little acceleration. I turned right, put on my hazards, and looked to park as quickly as possible. Even though I was driving slow I was also unable to fully brake, which was unsettling. I found a parking lot just a little ways up the road where I parked and called for a tow truck. The truck is currently at a local Ford dealer.

Upon return they told me diagnostics showed no alerts on vehicle, thus no problems. So, nothing was done. 05/26/2024 approx. 8:05pm, traveling 50-mph had sudden loss of power and speed. Warning lights and prompts appeared on cluster. Vehicle slowed immediately to 35-40mph and would not accelerate any faster. Sudden slowdown caused vehicle behind (who was following to close) to suddenly brake, almost hitting me. Would slow when brakes applied. When brakes released vehicle would accelerate to 35-40 mph on its own without applying gas pedal. This vehicle has had four (4) recalls, and now two separate incidents as described above. I believe it is a hazard and the issue complained of herein, and previously, are of such magnitude that they pose a significant risk of accident potentially causing injury or death to others or myself.

I was driving around in city traffic and all of the sudden a message popped up on my screen that said "gear will engage at lower speed" and lost all power. I coasted into the nearest parking lot and it slammed me to a stop when i got slow enough and put the parking brake on. It then thew a bunch of codes saying service soon, something regarding advancetrak, and the check engine light came on. I then turned the car off and back on which made only the check engine light come on so i tried to at least make it home and i accelerated to 20mph and lost power again. threw the same codes at me too. At that point i got into another parking lot and it got towed to mcree. I believe what the cause was a ford guy came by the house a week ago to do a recall and reprogrammed the computer system. I read online that a guy had the recall done a week ago and the same thing happened to him. That same guy said that he brought it to his ford dealer and they are on their 3rd attempt at fix it as the problem keeps occurring. lets hope that doesn't happen..

As I was driving along the highway the vehicle suddenly lost all propulsion. The electric shifter indicated the vehicle was no longer in drive and several errors/warnings appeared on the dash including “Pre-collision assist not available, Powertrain Malfunction/reduced power, and service engine soon”. No error messages were visible prior to this occurring. The vehicle can be made available upon request. It is currently at the dealer for the second time for this issue in the last 3 days. Both times the vehicle was rendered unusable in high speed/highway traffIc, putting both myself and fellow motorists at risk by forcing me to coast through a line of cars to reach the shoulder. Also, being on the side of the highway as cars fail to move over for the disabled vehicle poses its own risk to my safety as well as other motorists. The second incident occurred at approximately 7pm march 7th along the same highway and in identical fashion. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer, however, they identified and cleared the error codes stored by the vehicle. The service manager said he believed it was a result of a recent recall software update. The ford dealership that sold me the car has inspected the vehicle. My assessment is that this issue is related to a recent update performed by ford service regarding a recall/s. This vehicle was just serviced for its 30k maintenance and received the recall update/s and since then has broken down and been towed to the dealer twice.

Vehicle's engine suddenly cut out during driving ~15 mph. Multiple warning lights flashed. Vehicle ran on battery and was able to go at slow velocity but then transitioned to accelerating when pedal was not engaged. Hazard lights would shut off suddenly after driver turned them on. "Limp mode" is commonly used term for what happened.

This morning I was driving to work (65mph cruise control, 45 degrees F outside, heated seats ON), out of nowhere I felt myself slowing down right after I went over a railroad track (pretty decent bump) on the highway. As I was slowing down I noticed that my cruise control had turned itself off and when trying to turn it back on (pressing set+, set-, and the toggle CC on/off button) it wasn't responding. After realizing that setting my cruise control wasn't working I tried accelerating on my gas pedal but nothing was happening and I was still slowing down. I tried again and noticed that when I accelerated, the needle on the left side gauge wasn't going past the green battery section even when accelerating harder than normal. Everything in the vehicle seemed to be working properly as far as power steering, lights, breaking, dashboard, etc. Eventually I pulled over to the side of the road, put it in park, put it back in drive, and everything was fine for another 70 miles on the day.

I was on a freeway cruising around 85 mph when all of a sudden my truck lost power and went into limp mode. I had 3 dash warnings about powertrain malfunction, front end collision being unavailable, and something about engaging gear at low speeds. This has happened once before. Same three messages. The vehicle loses power and speed FAST. Luckily both times I was able to pull over and turn the vehicle off and back on and it just has a check engine light and drives normal again. I have had one software recall completed on my truck and I have 17,000 miles.

I took it to the dealer for a recall with a PCM programming. After that, I drove it for a few days and the car came to a sudden halt on the freeway. Luckily the cars behind me did not hit me but it is a safety concern and the dealerships are not able to find the problem

Was driving down a highway at about 75 MPH when the vehicle automatically shifted to neutral and gave the following warnings on the dash: Gear selected will engage at low speed, Powertrain malfunction/reduced power, pre-collision assist is not available, service engine soon warning, service advancedtrac, hill assist not available. This is about a month after other recalls were ‘fixed’ and other ‘updates’ to software were installed.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and upon attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel seized with the “Power Steering Assist Fault” message displayed. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the failure had also occurred while driving 20 MPH and making a left turn. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed again, and the contact was informed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 13,600.

I purchased the 2023 ford maverick xlt with about 12,000 miles in may, right from the start I started having problems with the steering freezing up, almost hit a wall exiting the freeway, a few times it happened close to my house, it happens without warning, the warning "steering assist fault service required"comes up on dashboard , I have gone to the dealer a few times, the first time they said they had taken care of it, but I drove the truck after and later the steering froze up again, I took it in again and they said it was the steering column, it had a internal fault, so I left the vehicle there and next day they called me that the vehicle was ready, so I drove it home which is about eight miles from the dealer, no sooner had I was about to turn in the driveway that the steering froze on me, I borrowed my wife's car and went to the dealer told them what happened and the manager said to take it in again so they could check it , but I told the manager that I couldn't because iam afraid to drive the truck for my safety and other innocent people, so my truck sits in my driveway unable to drive it.

The vehicle came to a stop at a ditch after the crash. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver’s and passenger’s side air bags did not deploy. There was no property damage. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a rotator cuff tear and a pinched nerve. It is unknown if the other three people in the other vehicle sustained any injuries. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 37,000.

I was driving normally at speed. The truck suddenly lost power. The gas pedal was unresponsive. It took a moment to realize what had happened since the truck showed no indication of an issue. No warnings showed on the dash, the radio was playing as normal. Pressing the gas pedal did nothing. Brakes worked. I was on a road where was I luckily was able to coast into a parking lot and stop safely. I shut off the vehicle and immediately turned it back on. Everything started normally and the vehicle drove normally from that point.

- The truck attempts to accelerate by itself. No gas pedal pressure is required. - The brake still (thankfully) slows down and stops the truck, but if those brakes had failed, my spouse and children would have been in a wreck for sure. - No one has yet inspected the vehicle, but a service appointment has been requested. - MANY warning signals suddenly flashed: something about "hill climbing," something about AdvanceTrac, a collision warning. Those were all in the screen area. Also the following icons were lit: wrench, engine, slippery road, crash. These happened immediately before the incident. No prior warning. - We had recently (last week?) gotten some recall work done by Ford. - This is happening to other people, too. Two problems 1. Auto Start/Stop feature 2. Pre-Collision Assist (1) Auto Start/Stop feature- unpredictable.. 1. My engine turns off at busy intersection for red light with a vehicle coming in fast from behind, I hit gas to move forward . My truck revs hard from starting with foot on gas and darts forward. Almost went into cross traffic. 2. There is a current recall on Maverick batteries. Numerous complaints on the Facebook Ford Maverick of vehicle shutting off for auto-stop, but not starting in traffic conditions due to the battery. Fact - any electrical or computer problem and your vehicle is now stranded in an intersection. The Maverick has several electrical recalls. 3. I have timed my Vehicle Restart response on camera. It takes approx 1 more second for my vehicle engine to re-start and advance forward. For many accidents 1 second is the difference of life and death. 4. When I stop to put the vehicle in reverse, it will auto-stop while I am shifting. My vehicle is now sitting in the road, until I hit reverse and no brake, then "jumps" backwards in reverse. 5. The feature cannot be turned off permanently- it must be turned off manually for every trip. Summary - I have sent these concerns to Ford. They will not provide a way to turn off this feature. Only option is to pay a mechanic to disable it with an aftermarket product, which could of course, damage something else. (2) Front Collision Warning System - Has gone off three times for no valid reason. One time simply passing an oncoming vehicle 2 times passing police vehicles on the side of the road with flashing lights. I have lowered it's alert level to low and seems to help. But clearly, Emergency lights setting off a system that takes some control of stirring and braking is a concern.

Leaving a parking spot, after about 75 ft of travel, wrench and engine indicator light lit up along with scrolling warnings instructing service engine soon, service adv trac, hill start assist not available and pre collision assist not available. Vehicle abruptly slammed on the brakes and would not release. After several attempts to resolve the stopping issue, I was able to engage drive and the vehicle allowed me to travel at 34 mph max. There was no throttle and I had to ride the brakes in order to regulate the 34 mph limit. This a unsafe condition that Ford needs to resolve asap.

While driving down US-69, while attempting to pass a vehicle at about 80 mph, the vehicle shut off and proceeded to stop accelerating, as well as started to slow itself down. The instrument cluster flashed quickly before shutting off, and the radio also shut off. The cabin lights came on, and I had to switch to the right lane to quickly get onto the side of the road where it gradually slowed itself down and threw itself into park. I had taken the key out, and simply turned it back on, and everything seemed to work as normal after the fact. There were no indicators that this would happen, it was sudden and almost caused me to get rear ended by a semi truck.

Travelling around 60-70mph on the highway when a warning appeared saying there is a powertrain issue and engine issue. This forced my truck into low gear and I lost the ability to accelerate. This forced me to pull to the side of the highway with no acceleration capabilities which is highly dangerous. Multiple warning lights remained on the dashboard. This first event occured on Mar 10 2024, then happened AGAIN on April 12 2024.

Started to develop a rumble/stumble upon acceleration. It seems to be getting worse. Finally took it in the dealer. The dealer confirmed that it is the CV axles. They need replacing. Dealer said no parts in stock and not sure when they will arrive. WTH. I asked about driving and they said keep on motoring. What. How can this be good for all the other connected parts! It shutters so bad I am not confident it will not cause me to have an accident. This is a major issue with the drive-line components. Ford needs to issue a recall and redesign this part or I will be replacing these again at my cost. I only have 39k milage

Dealership confirms CV joints on my new 2023 Maverick are spewing out grease with violent vibration while driving. Was able to safely pull over before vibration became worse. No prior warning prior to or during axle failure. Vehicle is still at the dealership awaiting parts that are apparently on backlog. Upon further research I found that I am one of many Maverick owners experiencing premature failure of CV joints.

I have just recently bought a brand new truck, a hybrid model. Not a single mile on it when I purchased it, and I strongly feel that I almost died or caused an accident, completely not my fault but the truck’s fault. This has happened on 3 separate occasions. The first two times, as I was driving up the highway on a mountain road, I lost power, but just kind of chalked it up to maybe the fuel sloshing around, and no other vehicles were around me. The third time, I was returning home from work, on a busy 4-lane highway that goes across the pass and over the mountains, I was in the left lane, a semi truck was to my right, and a semi truck was behind me, we were passing the slower truck that was on the right, and I was traveling at around 55 mph, the truck completely shut off and was flashing red at me to pull to the side of the road. I lost all power, the steering, gas, and everything was not working. I need to mention that I was in front of semi truck, a larger truck that cannot stop on a dime, so he had to swerve to miss me, as I did not have control of the truck. The slower truck went by me and there was a another pickup truck behind him, and there was a little bit of a gap between them, so I jerked the wheel over and drove into the ditch. It was absolutely frightening, and kind of switched something in my head that I was very close to causing a large crash and maybe a death, of myself or someone else. I was in the ditch and the truck would not start back up. Nothing worked. To add to that, I was in a spot of the mountains that I do not get cell phone service. So I popped the hood and just sat there trying to turn the ignition and start the vehicle. 30 minutes passed and I slammed the hood and got back inside the truck and this time the truck turned over, but it said it was running on electric only, and the check engine light was, so I was able to limp home which was about 30 miles away, driving 20-30 mph. It sent the codes to my phone and I contacted the dealer.

While attempting to turn left at an intersection, my hybrid vehicle suddenly became unresponsive. The dashboard lit up with several warnings and it would only idle using its electric motor. It would then accelerate to top electric-only speed despite me not applying my foot to the accelerator. My safety and others was put at risk because I was turning left at a busy intersection. My local dealer (from whom I purchased the vehicle) cleared the errors and then drove several hundred miles without any errors and without replicating the problem.

Note: Nobody was hurt, I am pre-emptively reporting this as I see it as a potentially dangerous issue. Transmission can jump/nudge the car a bit, especially in cold starts and if the engine is under load (e.g. AC or Heat). I've seen it online in Reddit reported, but mine seems to be a fairly strong version of it. It occurs pretty much every time the engine is cold. As I learned in a trip, if you don't press the brake hard enough, it can move. We did a road trip. I was stopped at a light (fully stopped). Brakes were pressed hard enough to not move, but not 'to the floor'. The vehicle jumped and moved about a foot into the crosswalk when I was stopped properly before then. Freaked me out. Nobody was in the crosswalk, so thankfully nobody was hurt. But this could be very dangerous behavior in a city where there are a lot a people. A surprising lurch when you think it's stopped isn't safe, and is going to create a liability for me. Me living near a big city, it's a worry. I've already brought it to a dealer about this, they said 'it's normal for mavericks' after investigating it for 25 days. I will re-raise this with them, but am not expecting much. I ran the truck with a diagnostic tool I own, no codes thrown through the bus, no warning lights during the event either. I have had this issue since I got my Ford Maverick. The brakes are very abrupt and grabby at slow speeds and it makes the vehicle extremely difficult and unsafe to operate in pick up lanes, parking lots, stop and go traffic and many more situations. I had a service appointment where ford updated modules in the truck however, still have the problem where trying to use the brakes on this truck, is always a very abrupt bump to a stop. When you're gradually & smoothly decelerating to a stop, near the last moment you get a very abrupt bump, lurch forward, jerk to a stop. It's as if the hybrid truck does not transition from regenerative braking to pad on rotor well.

There are/were no warning lights or errors that popped up. When I am coming to a stop (last couple seconds of slowing) I will often feel like there is suddenly no brakes, then a harsh braking suddenly. There has not been an incident where this has resulted in an accident, but it makes me feel like I don't have control of the vehicle if I can't anticipate braking behavior on perfectly dry, smooth surfaces. This would be compounded if there were wet or otherwise slippery/rough conditions.

Driving on highway when all warning lights came on the dash, including the messages: AdvanceTrac Off Collision Assist Off Parking Break On Service System Soon. My brakes and accelerator stopped working, and the car immediately started slowing down. I started pulling over but didn't even make it all the way out of the lane. I changed gears, but could not go Forward, emergency brake was on but wouldn't let me turn it off. It did let me put my hazards on. I kept attempting to change gears, and eventually the emergency brake went off and I could shift into drive and pull out of the highway lane. The truck was towed to the shop, and they told me on the phone there was an open recall on the emergency brake. They have not figured out the problem or been able to replicate the issue.

I took my 2023 Ford Maverick to the Dealership- Larry H Miller Lakewood CO. to get outstanding recalls address on [XXX]. Recalls handled were for Reprogram powertrain control module, turn signal outage detection failure, and software calibration update. I had no issues or concerns with my new vehicles performance or safety up to that point. [XXX] I was driving with my 2 children in the truck on the highway. Going 75 miles/hour uphill near the junction of [XXX] and [XXX] the truck suddenly started reporting errors on the digital display and dropped into limp mode leaving me stuck between 25-35 mph max speed on a busy highway causing a dangerous and unpredictable situation. I was able to exit the highway and navigate side roads to my dealership not far. They cleared the error and reset and were unable to replicate the issue at that time. On [XXX] the issue replicated. Heading south on [XXX] at 75 mph on the highway with my children in the truck, the power train module error once again appeared, check engine light came on and the digital display cycled through a series of errors the same as it had the prior time. Vehicle dropped to limp mode with a max speed of 35 on a busy highway. It once again caused a dangerous and hazardous experience trying to exit the highway at the next available opportunity. On the exit the truck shut off completely. Obstructing traffic. I was able to restart and navigate to a safe spot where I was able to contact Ford Roadside assist and get my truck towed to my same dealership once again. My truck has been at the dealership for 3 weeks now but on [XXX] they reported there were some new updates that might address the issue. They ran those updates and so far have been unable to replicate the problem. There is no solid confirmation from Ford that these updates will resolve the unsafe issue from happening again. We are uncertain at this point as to whether utilizing the vehicle will once again jeopardize our safety driving it. I have a 2023 For Maverick hybrid pickup. While driving on the highway at about 70-75 miles an hour, the engine abruptly shut off. I had to carefully make my way to the shoulder while cars zipped by. Scary and very unsafe. My wife was hysterical and does not want to ride in the truck anymore. Once stopped at shoulder, I turned the ignition to the off and on positions several times. The gas engine would not crank. Three or four messages scrolled on the screen: "Service engine immediately," "Pre-collision assist not available," and others I don't exactly remember. When I would turn the ignition to on, the electric engine would start but when I accelerated in Park, the gas engine did not accelerate, not did it work in Reverse, Neutral or Drive. I was able to limp off the highway about 30 miles and hour under what I presume was electric battery power with my hazard flashers on and park at a gas station. I had to have the truck towed to the dealer on a Saturday night at a cost of $400.00 and leave it for repairs. The Service Department told me the truck was not giving any error codes and they were trying to get further guidance from Ford. They required extensive driving and time to input and test Ford updates. The final result was that they were not able to verify any issues after performing additional PCM updates. I was advised they are all done and will deliver the truck tomorrow Wednesday. However, they still don't know what caused the power failure. I have seen numerous similar incidents being posted about on the Internet.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
1 complaint
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated the check warning engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve sensor had failed. The sensor inside the valve failed due to condensation getting into the valve and short-circuiting the sensor. The EGR valve sensor had been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the Lane Departure feature malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to erroneously steer outside the driving lane and lines. Additionally, after locking the vehicle, it was discovered that only the front driver’s side door had locked, and other doors remained unlocked. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
1 complaint
This vehicle will reduce or cut throttle application/response relative to how many degrees the steering wheel is turning. When trying to pull out in traffic if you have the wheel turned beyond a set angle the throttle doesn't respond as expected and acceleration is greatly reduced. It will also cut the throttle if you pull out and then turn only to fully accelerate as the wheel is straightened out again. Two very dangerous examples I've experienced are 1: pulling onto a "freeway" that has a few side roads with perpendicular access. With the wheel turned the truck is very slow to accelerate when first pulling onto the expressway but suddenly will as the wheel is straightened. 2: When going across 2 lanes of traffic and making a turn to join traffic the truck will accelerate as expected across the first lanes, loose power as you turn, and then accelerate fully again as the wheel is straightened. While an argument could be made to just sit and wait until there is more time to join traffic, there are moments when being able to accelerate hard are necessary. This vehicle will either not accelerate or will reduce acceleration based on angles of steering. I believe this is a dangerous situation that most experienced drivers are not going to be expecting when they have to join fast moving traffic. Following web forums this is an issue other owners have experienced.

Vehicle was travelling on freeway at freeway speeds suddenly without notable cause the vehicle electrical stopped, giving multiple warning in succession, cutting speed rapidly to 35 mph, with no acceleration pedal response and an automatic speed of 35 on battery power with the ability to break, but with no control of speed and only regulated by break pedal. Pulled vehicle to side of road and put in park, parking break automatically engaged. Vehicle had alarms on all automatic systems being off. Turning vehicle on and off did not effect response. After checking engine visually, was able to turn vehicle on with no alarms or issues. This has happened in both my Mavericks and almost led to a fatal collision in the 2022 Maverick.

Saturday [XXX] I was driving on the [XXX] in SW PA and as I attempted to accelerate there was no power. I looked down at my transmission dial and it was set in neutral. I rolled the dial back to drive and pushed the gas and was able to accelerate. This is the 5th TIME this has happened in this vehicle 3 while driving on the Interstate, 2 while accelerating after a stop. Apparently there is a fix for this, recall 23V330/24S33 . I have been working with a local ford dealer to rectify the situation but it has not been resolved. I guess they updated most of the modules in my truck hoping to unlock a TCM update to preform the correct recall but it didn't work so they can not do the correct update to fix this problem. May 25, 2024 I was driving north on a 2 lane road at about 50 mph. No other vehicles around. Passed a pedestrian walking SB on the opposite shoulder and shortly thereafter my collision assist startled me when it activated fully locking my seat belt and applying the brakes. Only "obstacle" was a very large dark shadow cast over the roadway by a stand of trees. June 9, 2024 Driving EB on a two lane highway, about 55 mph, approaching an intersection with a vehicle stopped at a red light on the south side of the intersection. Pre-collision assist activated again, slamming on the brakes, throwing me and my passenger forcefully forward into our locked seat belts. Scared us both, as there were no obstacles in our path. Thankfully no one was behind us, so we avoided a rear end collision. I have since deactivated the automatic emergency braking, because I no longer trust it will operate correctly and I don't want to be rear ended and/or sustain whiplash or other injuries because of erroneous activation of a "safety" system.

I believe this incident occurred on June 25th (though it might have been the 24th or 26th). I left work shortly after 5:00 pm and was driving around a roundabout. I was going slowly, lightly tapping the gas pedal to maintain a speed between 10-15 mph. During one of these light taps, my truck gave an audible alert and the brakes engaged suddenly for a split second. I immediately took my foot off the gas pedal. The alert and chime stopped, and I continued driving normally. I'm fairly sure some kind of alert appeared on the instrument panel cluster, but it happened and disappeared so quickly that I couldn't see anything clearly. It all happened in the blink of an eye. The brakes engaged and released so rapidly that I tried to recreate the event using the brake pedal to ensure my foot wasn't on it by mistake. However, the brakes did not engage as quickly or abruptly during my attempts. I am certain my foot was on the gas pedal, not the brake. The gas pedal has a lighter, bouncy feel, while the brake pedal requires more pressure. And I remember a light touch causing this issue. When this incident occurred, I am confident that the light taps on the gas pedal to maintain a low speed triggered the issue. I drove home without any further problems, and this has not happened since. I also want to mention that my truck had previously gone into limp mode suddenly, but I had that recall issue fixed shortly afterward.

FOURTH INCIDENT: On [XXX] 2024, at approximately [XXX], I was traveling about 40-mph and slowing for a stop light. Just before coming to a complete stop, at about 5-mph this vehicle suddenly shifted into park on its own. At the same time numerous & various warning prompts appeared on the screen and ALL the warning signs on the instrument cluster became illuminated. As with the three (3) previous incidents, after shifting into drive and taking my foot off the brake the vehicle accelerated all on its own without my placing foot on gas pedal. Unlike previous times, additional warning prompts came up on the screen, e.g. "Hill Assist Parking Unavailable" and "Auto Hold System Fault". Also, after parking, turning vehicle off, locking doors and waiting 30+ minutes, the vehicle did not reset itself like before. Previously after sitting and not running when started it operated properly but with just the engine light on. On May 26, 2024, I had a scheduled recall for the brake lights. I asked my dealer (AutoNation Ford, Frisco (Texas)) to look at video I had taken and a possible fix under Recall 24S33, which I had found on the internet. The dealer service rep refused to look at anything and received to service this particular complaint. Instead, they sent me back onto the highway with a vehicle that can suddenly lose power and accelerate on its own, thereby creating a risk of a crash and injury or death to others or myself. 1st time [XXX], Complaint #11583215 2nd time [XXX], Complaint #11590922 3rd time [XXX], Complaint #11592069 4th, or current incident [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Without warning the truck will stop itself and the parking brake will engage. The service engine light will come one along with the service power train malfunction lights and the pre collision assist not available light. When the truck has been put back into gear it will accelerate on its own but only up to 35 MPH no matter how much gas is applied. This is the second time this has happened both were identical. After sitting overnight with the truck off the issue goes away temporarily but will come back with no warning. Vehicle may be inspected. Ford has already looked at the issue once and is scheduled to look at it again. If this had happened while on the highway, I could have been in a serious wreck that could have been fatal.

Vehicle put in drive, and upon accelerating, lost ability to accelerate while in drive, check engine indicator light turned on and power train warning prompts began flashing while moving avoiding traffic. I pulled over to the side of the road, put vehicle in park and turned off vehicle. Waited a minute, and turned vehicle back on, check engine indicator remained on, as well as power train warning prompt and Pre-Collision Warning Assist not available. Put vehicle in drive and could not accelerate normally, acceleration was delayed when I put my foot on the pedal. I removed my foot off of the accelerator and the vehicle then began to accelerate speed on it's own above 25mph. I then applied the brakes and pulled over again. This continued in the same pattern 2 more times, before I was able to drive the vehicle back to my house, with check engine lights and warning prompts on.

11 May 2024, I had started my truck as normal and began driving. About 2 miles from my house I lost all power to the truck. I was driving about 35 MPH when the truck threw up errors on the screen and I could no longer accelerate. It threw on the E Brake abruptly. Luckily no one was behind me as such an abrupt stop could cause a deadly accident. After I shut off the truck and waited 5 minutes and started the truck back up but it had a check engine light. I follow a forum called “ford maverick truck club” where I was made aware of this issue happening to maverick owners after a recall for the tail light. I had this recall preformed. I drove to a fort dealership where they attempted to fix the issue but said there was no remedy and only cleared the codes. I tried to contact ford by chat support to make them aware but they were not interested in me reporting any potential safety problems.

We on the interstate cruising @ 75. Lost all drive power, flashed something about a lower gear while I was making my way to the shoulder. When I got down to about 10 mph, the parking brake activated. When we came to a stop, it went into park, but the "P" was flashing. I couldn't disengage the brake or put it into gear . I turned it off and back on and was able to shift into drive and release the brake. It would move at this point, but it very slowly. We limped to the next exit. I turned it off and topped the tank off( had half tank) Then it started and was able to drive the other 170 miles home. CEL stayed on. Our concern is that this will happen again, cause an accident and injure or kill my family.

For no reason the truck would not start. No electric signal at all inside the truck either. Also the ignition and steering were locked. Called Ford to send out someone to jump the truck. It then started right away. Also took to the Ford dealer to have them check it out. They could find nothing wrong. I also have had a problem with the truck not starting after driving it and then parking it. The battery will not respond, igniton will not work, not able to shift it at all. Completely locked up. I have to try starting the truck another couple of times for the green READY to come on. This is concerning as I do not understand why the truck locks up. This has happened on at least four occasions since I purchased this truck at the end of June 2023

While Driving on I-79 on Friday April 12th around 3pm my Ford Maverick would not accelerate when I pushed the gas pedal. I attempted to pass a tanker truck and as I pushed the gas pedal nothing happened. No acceleration whatsoever. As I looked down at the instrument panel I do not recall if any dashboard light lit up. I quickly pulled over on to the left hand shoulder of the interstate as I had an SUV barreling down on me from behind during the rain storm. I turned the engine off and waited about a minute before restarting the engine. It worked fine after that. I had it on the interstate since then and had no issues with it. I am on a Ford Maverick message board and many other owners have had similar problems.

I was driving down the road at roughly 45 mph when all of the sudden my car went into neutral I was no longer able to accelerate. I was in the middle of a four-lane road with a traffic light coming up in cars coming from the opposite direction. I happen to be very lucky and right next to the Ford dealership when this happened, but this could be a major safety issue as others would not be so fortunate when vehicle was thrown into neutral. All the dash lights came on the check engine light came on. Wrench icon popped up on the instrument cluster as my car began to slow down as I pulled over once I got to roughly 5 mph the parking break engaged and came to a screeching halt. I was not able to disengage the parking break and could not move the vehicle into the drive position anymore. As stated before I was right next to the Ford dealership when this happened so I walked over and talked to the service center, they didn’t see any errors on my vehicle so I walked back to it started it up and the only remaining light was the check engine light and I was able to drive it over to the Ford dealership at which point the gentleman said he was able to see the errors. I have done a lot of reading online and this is called limp mode but is doing nothing to acknowledge this or proactively fix this on vehicles. From my understanding, this issue does not happen until after there are recalls done on the vehicle. I took my car into the shop at 9200 miles. Had it serviced for an oil change at which point Ford did two service recalls and now I’m experiencing this issue

I had just driven roughly 30 freeway miles on my way home and the truck suddenly flashes a barrage of errors, ESC fails, gear selection at low speed message, hill assist disable, pre-collision assist disabled, ABS light is on, MIL is on, service wrench is on, and drive mode selection is disabled. My truck lost all response to gas pedal, slows down and then slams on the parking brake at like 1-2 mph. I shut it down, started it back up. I had no gas pedal input. The truck self-accelerates up to 30-35 mph. I don't know at which speed it would've stopped accelerating because because the speed limit was only 30 mph. I ended up just riding the brakes to keep the speed down for 3/4 mile so I could get home. I went to reverse into my space at home and the truck was self accelerating in reverse as well. Normally it just rolls back slowly, but this truck was really moving. I abandoned the idea of backing in because I was scared it would just drive itself into the wall. I will not go back out on the roads in Los Angeles driving this vehicle until this is fixed, I would knowingly be putting my life and others lives in serious danger. I was fortunate that I had read about this happening in the past few weeks to several other Maverick owners who have had this problem, so I was aware of what was happening when it started and was only going about 30 mph and there wasn't much traffic around because it was a rainy night. This would've been horrifying if I were on the freeway or in moving traffic, which has happened to others. According to what I've found on the internet, this issue it is a result of some bad software installed in a recent recall. I had the recall done on [XXX] when I had an oil change. All of a sudden, in the rain while driving home, suddenly the (Drive) Shift knob light was flashing, warnings started flashing, hill start assist not available, service vehicle soon, pre collision assist not available, service advance Trac, and parking brake applied automatically and total loss of power…. I almost got into an accident in the rain and traffic because the people driving behind me were going fast and my truck just suddenly lost power and I had those cars coming from behind that had to swerve out of my way. I managed to get it pulled off to a side street and turned it off and back on and still had no power and all the lights/warnings were still on. When you press on the gas, it wouldn’t go…. No throttle response. Could not go. Almost in an accident and it could have been worse if this happened with more traffic.

Received multiple error messages while driving including: -Pre-collision assist not available -Service engine soon -Powertrain malfunction/reduced power -Drive mode selection disabled. The “D” on the gear shift was also flashing. I slowed down and the parking brake automatically engaged while still driving, which caused the truck to stop hard. I was able to drive it to a parking lot, but it felt like it was in between gears. I turned the truck off in the parking lot for a few minutes, and then successfully started it and made it to the dealership with warning lights on. This likely would have caused a wreck if it happened on a busy road at higher speeds. It sounds like many Maverick owners are experiencing this same issue after the last recall. I don’t feel safe driving my vehicle until this is resolved.

A couple of weeks after getting some software (or maybe firmware?) recalls done on my Ford Maverick my husband and I were driving down a semi-residential street. Suddenly the car went into limp mode and flashed a bunch of lights on the dash. So the car was limping along, but when my husband took his foot off the brake, the car started accelerating on its own. The car would brake when he hit the brakes but the second he lifted his foot off the brakes the car would start accelerating to about 40 mph. We were only a couple miles from our house, and we were able to get home safely, semi-careening our way there. Luckily there weren't any kids playing in the street (there often are) or any pedestrians crossing somewhere unexpectedly. The next day, my husband took the truck to the Ford dealership and told them about what had happened. He told them about how it went into limp mode and then accelerated by itself. They had the truck for basically the whole work day, and then brought it back. They said they couldn't recreate that failure so they cleared the codes, and told us to bring it in if it happened to them. When we got the documentation from the service it said that all they did was clear the codes. And they did NOT document ANYWHERE that we had reported that it had accelerated on its own. That night we found a Reddit thread that had lots of other people reporting the same failure and no satisfactory explanation was given, and, like us, none of them was certain that the issue had been "fixed." I'll upload the documentation they gave us, but again it's what they did NOT document that caused the most concern.

Could move forward with the battery but still no input from the gas pedal. I towed the truck and is with the dealer. But i am really scared to drive it again. I was lucky to be on the slow speed zone road and was able to get out to the shoulder. However, I might have been hit and killed if it happens in the highways. Very scary moment. Vehicle loses communication between control modules & goes into a limp-home mode. Has happed 3 times when doing highway speed driving on cruise control. Lots of alarms are posted including forward collision warning, emergency braking & traction control not working. Check Engine Light lights. Vehicle power is shutdown to low level. There is loss of throttle response. I pulled over to side of road because display messaging said that it wants to shift gear but must wait until vehicle slows. When slowing to near a stop, but still going 1-2mph (estimate), the vehicle slammed into park & put the Parking Brake on. I can acknowledge warning messages, take Parking Brake off, & select Drive. Then vehicle tries to move at 35mph of its own & w/o any throttle input. In fact, the throttle is unresponsive in this mode. The electric traction motor and/or engine will try to maintain 35mph -- forward or REVERSE -- &will apply power as needed to sustain that speed. Thankfully, the braking power will overcome the powertrain drive power & I can stop. The communication issue has happened to a couple other Maverick vehicles in the country, but I don't know whether they've experienced the vehicle trying to go 35mph on its own w/o any throttle input. This going 35mph in limp-home mode -- in forward and in reverse, and w/o any throttle input -- is a horrible fail-safe response & seems very unsafe to me. It is hard to gently back into a parking spot. Losing power while driving because of the whole communication failure is very unsafe: I might need to finish a pass on a 2-way highway and would need power for that; I might need to throttle out of a situation; or, as has happened 3 times to me, I suddenly lose power on an interstate highway where traffic regularly is going between 65 -80mph. This could leave me getting rear ended because my vehicle slows w/o brakes applied so other drivers have no warning. These incidences occurred after 23C41 / 23V848 safety recall service.

I have an issue where my Ford Maverick sometimes, randomly will be nudging, surging, or pulsing forward (I'm not sure how to describe it) despite your foot being on the brake. It occurs most often on cold mornings, when you first start the truck, have your foot on the brake and shift from park to drive, before you release the brake (take your foot off the pedal) you notice the truck is going: bump bump bump bump bump, like a forward nudge push forward. Even though this has mostly occurred first thing in the morning it has occurred at other times while stopped at a red light, stopped in front of a pedestrian crosswalk, and stopped in front of school + children. It's really concerning the despite having your foot on the brake the truck is still trying to lurch forward.
