TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACKED MANIFOLD AND IT WAS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED A SPARK PLUG BLOWOUT IN MY 1999 FORD MUSTANG WITH 4.6L V8. I HAVE SINCE READ ABOUT THE VULNERABILITY OF THESE ENGINES TO EXPERIENCE SPARK PLUG BLOWOUT. THE FIRST BLOWOUT WAS EXPERIENCED PRIOR TO CHANGING ANY SPARK PLUGS AND THEREFORE CAN NOT BE DEEMED TO BE A CAUSE OF IMPROPER TORQUING, ETC. A HELI-COIL WAS USED TO REPAIR THE SPARK PLUG BLOWOUT, ONLY TO HAVE THE SPARK PLUG BLOWN OUT AGAIN AT A LATER DATE. THIS TIME THE CYLINDER HEADS WERE DAMAGED AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT WAS A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE BOTH IN COST OF REPAIR, AND IN THE SEVERITY OF THE MALFUNCTION. I AM VERY DISTURBED TO HEAR THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND NUMBER OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY PROPER RECOGNITION OR ACTION BY FORD. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT TO DRAW MORE ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE AND PERHAPS GET SOME FEDERAL ACTION AGAINST FORD FOR THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT OWNERS LIKE ME SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THE REPAIRS DONE AND THE STRESS/INCONVENIENCE ENCOUNTERED DUE TO THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. *TR

IT WAS LATE SUMMER, CLOSE TO EARLY FALL 2017. MY TWO SONS, AGES 17 AND 15, HAD JUST GOTTEN OUT OF FOOTBALL PRACTICE AND WERE GETTING INTO THE 1999 MUSTANG TO COME HOME. (MY 17 YEAR OLD SON, MATTHEW, HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR QUITE AWHILE, AND HAD NO TRAFFIC INFRACTIONS OR VIOLATIONS YET EITHER, NOR DOES HE NOW. HE HAS BEEM A CAREFUL DRIVER.) THEY WERE DRIVING VERY SLOWLY, AS THEY HAD JUST EXITED THEIR PARKING SPOT, AND THEN PROCEEDED AHEAD, AND WHILE DRIVING IN VERY SLOW MOTION WENT OVER A SMALL BUMP OR NODE, OR BARELY ANYTHING, IN THE ENUMCLAW HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT. THE AIRBAGS BOTH BLEW OUT SUDDENLY, SLIGHTLY INJURING MY 15 YEAR OLD SON'S HAND, AND BLINDING AND PUSHING THEM BOTH BACKWARD IN THEIR SEATS. BOTH OF THEM JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR IMMEDIATELY, VERY SCARED. THEY HAD BEEN DRIVING VERY SLOWLY, SO WERE ABLE TO STOP SUDDENLY DO THIS AND STILL SAFELY ENOUGH TO IMMEDIATELY GET OUT. MANY OF THE FOOTBALL BOYS WERE WATCHING, AS THEY WERE DRIVING RIGHT BY THEM, AND EVERYONE BROKE OUT IN EMOTION. ONE WITNESS CLAIMED THAT IT CAUSED THE WHEELS TO LIFT OFF THE GROUND. THEY DROVE HOME THAT DAY, WITH AIRBAGS OUT, BUT SINCE THEY HAVE QUITE DRIVING THE CAR, AS IT APPEARS TO BE ILLEGAL TO DRIVE IT WITHOUT AIRBAGS. NOW WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS SITUATION, AND WE ARE LEFT FEELING SHORT OF ONE OF OUR NECESSARY VEHICLES. SINCE THERE WAS NOT ACTUALLY AN ACCIDENT THAT SET OFF THE AIRBAGS, AND THE CAR IS MINIMALLY INSURED, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. NOTE: I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE EXACT DATE, BUT IT IS CLOSE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECREASE IN SPEED WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DEACTIVATED. SWE PURCHASED OUR 1999 FORD MUSTANG GT NEW AND A 25K MILES YHE REAR END DIFFERENTIAL WAS MAKING A LOT OF NOISE. FORD REPLACED THE ENTIRE THIRD MEMBER UNIT AND ALL CARRIER BEARINGS. AT 35K MILES THE ISSUE REOCCUED AND THIS TIME WE TOOK THE CAR TO A DIIFERENTIAL SPECIALIST WHO SAID THE CARRIER BEARINGS ON ONE SIDE WERE COMPLETELY GONE AND REPLACED THEM. THEN AT 45K MILES THE SEME ISSUE DEVELOPED AND WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DIFFERENTIAL EXPERT. HE COULD NOT UBDERSTAND THE FAILUER AND UPON FURTHER ANALYSIS DETERMINED THE THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING WAS BENT AND HIS VIEW WAS THAT IST WAS MANUFACTURED THAT WAY OR IT BENT I=ON THE DELIVERY RIDE TO THE DEALERSHIP. I NOTICED A HANDLING PROBLEM ON MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. INSPECTION REVEALED BROKEN SWAY BAR LINKS ON BOTH SIDES. I READ ABOUT THE RECALLS PERTAINING TO THIS PROBLEM STATING FORD ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AND WOULD REPLACE THE ORIGINAL LINKS WITH A STRONGER LINK. I JUST HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT BUTTERFIELD FORD IN SANDY, UTAH AND POINTED OUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY STATED THEY WERE NOT UNDER ANY OBLIGATION TO REPLACE THE LINKS. IRONICALLY, THEY DID NOT EVEN ASK ME IF I WANTED THEM REPLACED AND THEY RELEASED MY VEHICLE WITHOUT REPLACING THEM. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS VEHICLE OFF ROAD NOR HAS IT EVER HIT A CURB, CHUCKHOLE, BUMP ETC. WITH ANY ABNORMAL FORCE. THESE LINKS ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM, IF THEY ARE NOT. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE LEFT REAR TIRE CAME OFF THE RIM. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNALS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TIRE DEALER WHO DID NOT RECOGNIZE ANY WARRANTY ON THE TIRE, WHICH HAD ONLY 16000 MILES. A NEW TIRE WAS MOUNTED ON THE RIM AND DID NOT PRESENT ANY PROBLEM. DT: THE SPARE TIRE IN THE TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE H BLEW UP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START BECAUSE THE TIRE CAUSED THE TRIP WIRE TO SHUT OFF THE FUEL. AFTER CONSUMER'S HUSBAND PUSHED A RESET BUTTON THE VEHICLE STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS A CONVERTIBLE. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP WAS PULLED BACK ON THE LEFT SIDE BY THE EXPLOSION, AND THE TRUNK LID WAS PUSHED. BEFORE THERE WAS A RATTLING NOISE IN THE TRUNK AND THE CONSUMER TOOK THE TIRE OUT. AFTER CLEANING THE TRUNK OUT SHE PUT THE TIRE BACK IN, AND HAD NOT USED IT. A WEEK LATER IT BLEW OUT. WHILE DRIVING ON I-75 THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. I DROVE THE THE NEAREST GAS STATION TO CHECK OUT THE TIRES AND INFLATION THINKING THE TIRES MUST BE LOW. LAST NIGHT THE 1999 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER EDITION SUDDENLY WENT UP IN FLAMES FROM A FIRE THAT STARTED BY ITSELF UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. I PARKED MY 1999 EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION ON THE STREET 2 BLOCKS FROM MY HOME AT ABOUT 6:40PM THE NIGHT OF APRIL 17, 2005. AT 11:16PM THE POLICE RANG MY BELL TO INFORM ME THAT MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A FIRE. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY BURNED AND DESTROYED. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK, ABOUT A BLOCK AWAY FROM MY RESIDENCE. THE SEAT BACK JUST UNEXPECTEDLY FELL TO A FULL RECLINE AGAINST THE BACK SEAT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BACK TO MY RESIDENCE SO I COULD EVALUATE WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I TRIED TO VISUALLY SEE IF I COULD IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM BY TRYING TO REPOSITION THE SEAT. I ENDED UP REMOVING THE BLACK PLASTIC COVER, WHICH IS FASTENED OVER THE LEVER/LATCH ASSEMBLY, TO EXPOSE THE INTERNAL MECHANISM OF THE LEVER/LATCH ASSEMBLY ON THE RECLINING SEAT BACK. UPON REMOVING THE PLASTIC COVER, I WAS ABLE TO IDENTIFY A LOOSE BOLT IN THE MECHANISM. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE BOLT OUT OF THE MECHANISM WITHOUT UNSCREWING IT. THE BOLT LITERALLY SLID STRAIGHT OUT. AS I INSPECTED THE LOCATION WHERE THE BOLT WAS SUPPOSED TO FASTEN INTO, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS STILL A REMAINING PORTION OF THE BOLT LEFT IN THE MECHANISM. THE BOLT, WHICH FASTENS THE LATCH/LEVER SYSTEM OF THE RECLINING (SEAT BACK) PORTION OF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT, ESSENTIALLY SHEARED IN HALF. THIS CAUSED THE RECLINING (SEAT BACK) PORTION OF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT TO FALL AWAY FROM ITS UPRIGHT POSITION. WITHOUT THE BOLT FASTENED INTO THE LATCH/LEVER ASSEMBLY WHICH ALLOWS DRIVER TO MANIPULATE POSITION OF SEAT BACK THE SEAT BACK IS NOT ABLE TO BE POSITIONED UPRIGHT, ULTIMATELY MAKING DRIVING IMPOSSIBLE. BASICALLY, THE SEAT BACK SWIVELS LOOSELY FROM THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE BACK SEAT AND CANNOT BE SET SECURELY IN AN UPRIGHT DRIVABLE POSITION. THE BOLT IN QUESTION IS A M10 WITH 1.5MM PITCH (METRIC 10), WHICH IS CLOSE IN SIZE TO A 3/8 STANDARD BOLT. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR 5 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS (I PURCHASED IT IN APRIL OF 1999). THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY AND OR DEATH. THE LOCAL RCHASED THE VEHICLE WOULD DO NOTHING TO HELP ME REMEDY THIS PROBLEM AND DID NOTHING TO RECOGNIZE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS KIND OF FAILURE. I WAS FORCED TO FIX THE SEAT ON MY OWN. *AK

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN LAS VEGAS RETURNING FROM WORK WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE MECHANISM THAT HOLDS THE SEAT BACK UP FAILED AND THE SEAT BACK FAIL BACK ON THE REAR SEAT. LUCKILY, I HAD A FIRM GRIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I HAD NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS SEAT BEFORE, AND IT WAS SUBJECT TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE PLASTIC LENS COVERINGS FOR THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE DISCOLORED AND TURNED MILKY IN APPEARANCE. PROPER ILLUMINATION IS NO LONGER PROVIDED BY THE HEADLIGHTS. THERE IS NO WAY TO CLEAR UP THE PROBLEM. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS USING VARIOUS CLEANING OR POLISHING AGENTS HAVE PROVEN FUTILE. THIS IS AN INSIDIOUS PROBLEM, AKIN TO HAVING ONE'S VISION SLOWLY GET BAD SO YOU LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT. BUMPER MOUNTING BRACKET IS POORLY DESIGNED AND ONCE THE INTEGRITY OF ONE OF THE BRACKET TABS IS COMPROMISED, THE WHOLE BUMPER WILL FALL OFF WITH TIME DUE TO THE ADDITIONAL STRESS ON THE OTHER BRACKET TABS. IF I GIGGLE THE HANDLE FROM THE OPPOSITE WAY I WAS TURNING, IT WILL STOP. SOME DAYS IT WILL ONLY DO IT ONCE, AND OTHERS IT DOES IT ALMOST NON STOP WHEN I HAVE THE CAR ON. FORD MUSTANG CONV. 1999 3.8 LITER ENGINE. REPORTED ENGINE PROBLEMS/ACCELERATION PROBS 3 TIMES TO DEALERSHIPS ( ONE TIME TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP OUTSIDE FORD JURISDICTION THAT NOTICED EXCESSIVE GASKET LEAKAGE) BEFORE 12,000 MILES. FINALLY, AFTER NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND PROBLEM ALL DEALERSHIP VISITS, FINALLY REPLACED W/ REFURBISHED ENGINE DEMONSTRATING SAME PROBLEM AT 31207 MILES APPROXIMATELY. (PLEASE NOTE- IT APPEARS AS THOUGH DEALERSHIP ON TWO OCCASIONS TRIED TO CHANGE THE PROBLEMS I NOTATED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I TOLD THE REPRESENTATIVE MY COMPLAINTS. GAVE ME BACK INVOICE TWO TIMES WITH MODIFICATIONS THAT WERE NOT ORIGINAL COMPLAINT! ON THE SECOND TIME- TRACKED DOWN THE MANAGER AND COMPLAINED DIRECTLY AND ASKED WHY THE DEALERSHIP HAD DONE THIS. HE HAD NO ANSWER FOR THIS EMPLOYEES ACTION.) THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WITH THE NEW REFURBISHED ENGINE IS THAT THERE IS NO BURNING SMELL AND THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY VIBRATES SO VIOLENTLY THAT THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES AND GEARSHIFT VIBRATES TO AND FRO VIOLENTLY- THE INITIAL ACCELERATION COMPLAINT REMAINS. THE VIOLENT ENGINE SHAKING DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. THIS NEW ENGINE HAS BEEN INSTALLED ONLY 3 DAYS. TRANSMISSION/ CLUTCH ASSEMBLY- GASKET REPLACEMENT (EXCESSIVE BURNING SMELL IN VEHICLE). NO COATING UNDER VEHICLE TO PROTECT INTERIOR COMPONENTS- DEALERSHIP FIXED. INSIDE OF WINDSHIELD CRACKED/ CHIPPED INTERNALLY- NO APPARENT REASON. VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT. BRAKE ASSEMBLY REPLACED PER RECALL. INTERIOR DASHBOARD LOSES COLOR- REPLACED TWO TIMES. CONVERTIBLE TOP APPARATUS-EXCESSIVE RUST- NEEDS REPLACEMENT. CD PLAYER STOPPED WORKING SINCE 20,000 MILES BUT HAD REPLACED DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS AT 30,000 MILES. CONVERTIBLE ROOF GASKET- REPLACED DUE TO DEFECT. THERE ARE OTHER PROBLEMS BUT I AM SICK OF TYPING. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST FORD PRODUCT I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THE DELRAY LINCOLN/MERCURY REPAIR DEPARTMENT APPEARS CORRUPT. PRE-ACCIDENT CONDITIONS: DAYLIGHT, RAINING, CAR STOPPED AT RED LIGHT. A FEW MINUTES PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT THE RED LIGHT THE DRIVER'S POWER SEAT MOVED ALL THE WAY FORWARD COMPLETLY ON ITS OWN ACCORD AFTER STOPPING AT THE RED LIGHT I RE-ADJUSTED THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PROCEEDED MAKING A RIGHT TURN IN MY NORMAL "OLD LADY" FASHION. ABOUT 3/4 THROUGH THE 90 DEGREE TURN THE REAR WHEELS LOST TRACTION AND BEGAN TO SLIDE TO THE LEFT. I IMMEDIATELY HIT THE BRAKE AND TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT. (I SUPPOSE IT IS POSSIBLE THAT I ACCIDENTLY HIT THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON LOCATED ON THE WHEEL AT THIS TIME). ANYWAY THE CAR ENGINE CONTIUED TO REV AND THE REAR WHEELS CONTINUED TO SPIN, DRIVING ME INTO A COMPLETE 360 DEGREE TURN, ALL THE TIME WITH MY FOOD HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHILE IN THIS SPIN THE REAR OF THE CAR JUMPED A MEDIAN CURB TWICE, CROSSED TWO LANES OF ASPHALT, JUMPED ANOTHER CURB AND FINALLY CRASH INTO A CONCRETE LIGHT POLE. ONLY THEN DID THE CAR STALL AND THE DRIVE WHEELS STOP SPINNING.*AK

CAR STALLS OUT WHILE IN MOTION. HAS HAPPENED TURNING A CORNER, ON A BUMPY ROAD (2" ROAD CONSTRUCTION DROP OFF), AND FOR NO APPARANT REASON. DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, BUT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. 2) WHEN TRYING TO PUT CAR IN REVERSE WHILE STOPPED (COMING OUT OF MY GARAGE OR A PARKING SPACE, FOR EXAMPLE) GEAR SHIFT REFUSES TO GO INTO REVERSE. PUTTING INTO FIRST DOES NOT HELP. I HAVE FOUND THAT LETTING UP ON THE CLUTCH JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT WILL USUALLY LET IT GO INTO REVERSE. 3) SEATBELTS ARE MUCH TO SENSITIVE. JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD YOU CAN HEAR THEM REPEATEDLY CLICKING, LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. YOU HAVE TO MAKE ANY MOVEMENT VERY SLOWLY OR ELSE YOU WILL BE SNAPPED BACK TO THE SEAT. TURNING TO LOOK OVER YOUR SHOULDER AT TRAFFIC WILL GET YOU LOCKED IN. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MUCH SAFER FOR THE DRIVER TO GO WITHOUT USING THE SEATBELT, BECAUSE THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *AK
