I HAVE A 2002 MUSTANG GT BULLITT THAT I BOUGHT IN JULY 2013. SO FAR I HAVE HAD TWO DIFFERENT INCIDENTS WHERE A SPARK PLUG HAS BLOWN THE HEAD. THE MOST RECENT WAS YESTERDAY 11/23/2013. ALL I WAS DOING WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A NOISE COME FROM THE SPARK PLUG. TODAY, I CHANGED THE SPARK PLUG AGAIN, AND SO FAR IT IS RUNNING OKAY FOR NOW. BUT A FEW WEEKS AGO, I CHANGED THE SAME SPARK PLUG, THEN IT WORKED FINE, THEN IT WENT OUT AGAIN YESTERDAY. SO, HOPEFULLY IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT IF IT DOES, I WON'T BE SURPRISED. *TR

THIS IS REGARDING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ON FORD V8 ENGINES. MY INTAKE MANIFOLD ON MY 2002 FORD MUSTANG V8 CRACKED AND CAUSED ME TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INTAKE MANIFOLD. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT LEAKED COOLANT RAPIDLY. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION SUIT FILED (IN WHICH FORD WAS HELD LIABLE) IN THE PAST YEARS AND I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS ISSUE. FORD HAS SINCE STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT HONOR ANY REPAIRS AFTER MARCH 2006. HOWEVER, THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER. MY MUSTANG ONLY HAS 89K MILES AND THE MANIFOLD CRACKED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING A MAJOR REPAIR BILL OF $1,231. FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY/ALL REPAIR COSTS FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME REGARDING THIS WEAK ENGINEERING. *TR

THE FOURTH SPARK PLUG ON MY 2002 FORD MUSTANG GT 4.6L VEHICLE BLEW OUT. THIS RESULTED HEAVY LOSS OF POWER, SHAKING, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY FUEL FUMES TO COME OUT. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON AN INTERSTATE AT HIGH-SPEED AND I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO SAFELY MAKE IT OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE COST TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR IS ESTIMATED AT $2500. THIS IS A VERY COMMON SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FORD 8-CYLINDER ENGINES FOR WHAT I GATHERED THROUGH INDEPENDENT RESEARCH AFTER THE INCIDENT. THE THREADS ARE TOO THIN AROUND THE SPARK PLUG AND THE HEAT CAUSES THEM TO BLEW OUT - LITERALLY. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAKED COOLANT WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE LEAK COULD CAUSE AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND MAYBE A FIRE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. ALSO, THE SPARK PLUGS SEPARATED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP IN REFERENCE TO THE SPARK PLUGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

I OWN A 2002 FORD MUSTANG GT WITH A 2-VALVE 4.6L ENGINE WITH ONLY 46K MILES. AROUND 1 APR 10 I STARTED HEARING A DISTINCT TICKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. NOT BEING THAT MECHANICALLY INCLINED, I ASSUMED SOME LIFTERS NEEDED ADJUSTING; SO, I BRUSHED THE NOISE OFF. ON 10 APR 10 I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THEN SOUNDS THAT PATTED LIKE A HARLEY RUNNING OUT OF GAS. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED SEVERAL TIMES. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM HOME; SO, I SPUTTERED THE REST OF THE WAY. AS I HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL, I CHECKED THE CODE AND IT READ THE #3 CYLINDER WAS MISS FIRING. I CALLED MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS. ONCE I FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET ALL THAT DONE, I REMOVED THE COIL FROM THE CYLINDER AND IT WAS SHREDDED WITH THE COIL DANGLING. I EXTRACTED THE SPARK PLUG WITH NO RESISTANCE BECAUSE IT WAS JUST SITTING IN THE HOLE. TO MY SURPRISE, IT WAS THE ORIGINAL SPARK PLUG THAT CAME WITH THE CAR. I TRIED TO PUT IN A NEW SPARK PLUG, BUT IT WOULD NOT TIGHTENED AT ALL. I ATTEMPTED SEVERAL TIMES AND EVEN TRIED TO MAKE IT CROSS-THREAD, BUT IT WOULD NOT TAKE. WHEN I TOOK A GOOD LOOK AT THE SPARK PLUG, I SAW WHERE THE BOTTOM THREE THREADS WERE SMASHED FLAT AND THE METAL THAT YOU GAP WAS MASHED AGAINST THE ELECTRIC DIODE. I CALLED BOB MOORE FORD IN OKC AND THE SERVICE WRITER, GERRY, TOLD ME THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THAT EVENT. I ASKED HIM WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT AND HE RESPONDED IMPROPERLY TORQUED SPARK PLUGS. WHEN I TOLD HIM IT WAS THE FACTORY PLUG, HE SAID THEN HOT RODDING MUST HAVE CAUSED IT. I TOLD HIM ITS MY WIFE'S CAR AND THE CAR DOESN'T TAKE ANY ABUSE. I ASKED HOW MUCH BOB MOORE CHARGES TO DO A HELICOIL AND HE SAID $500. I LET HIM GO. I ENDED UP TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP AND GETTING THE CYLINDER RE-THREAD FOR WHOLE LOT LESS AND WHOLE LOT BETTER ATTITUDE. HOPEFULLY, IT HOLDS. *TR

TEN MINUTES PRIOR TO AIR BAGS DEPLOYING I COMPLAINED TO MY TWO PASSENGERS THAT MY EYES WERE BURNING. I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, WITH MY FOOT ON BRAKE IN CENTER LANE IN CITY TRAFFIC, WHEN I HEAR A LOUD BANG AND INSTANTLY BOTH AIRBAGS ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DEPLOYED. THE NOISE AND FORCE STARTLED ME TAKING MY FOOT OF BRAKE AND ROLLING FORWARD. THE AIR BAGS BLEW BOTH MY PASSENGER AND MY GLASSES INTO THE BACK SEAT OF CAR. THE PASSENGER BAG WAS SMOKING BADLY AND I QUICKLY PUT DOWN BOTH WINDOWS AND I PULLED OFF STREET INTO SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHOM I ROLLED INTO PULLED OVER AS WELL. WE CHECKED BOTH THE FRONT OF MY CAR AND REAR BUMPER OF HER CAR AND BECAUSE NO VISIBLE DAMAGE. I TOOK A PICTURE OF HER BUMPER AND LICENSE PLATE TO SHOW NO DAMAGE. MY PASSENGER IN FRONT SEAT WAS BRUISED FROM AIRBAG AS FOR MYSELF AND THE OTHER PASSENGER WE WERE SHAKEN BY THE EXPERIENCE.

WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON A IN TOWN ROAD SHE CAME UPON CONSTRUCTION, ALL TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED BECAUSE THE 2 LANES WERE DOWN TO 1. AS SHE WAS WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO START MOVING HER BOOT GOT CAUGHT UNDER SEAT LEVER (THIGH HIGH BOOTS FLAP GOT CAUGHT) AND IT MADE HER FOOT SLIP FROM BRAKE, SHE THEN BUMPED INTO THE VAN IN FRONT OF HER, LESS THEN 5MPH AND BOTH WHICH THERE WAS NO PASSENGER OR ANYTHING ON HER SEAT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED DESTROYING HER COLUME. ABSOLUTELY NO FRONT END DAMAGE, NO DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLE, CAR STILL RUNS AND SEATBELTS STILL WORK. HAVING IT CHECKED FOR MALFUNCTIONS.

BEGINNING OF 2006, I PURCHASED MY USED 2002 FORD EXPLORER. AROUND 70,000 MILES, ABOUT 9 MONTHS LATER, THE ROARING NOISE IN THE REAR WAS UNBEARABLE. I PUT ALL NEW TIRES,I PUT ALL NEW BRAKES THINKING THIS WAS CAUSING THE NOISE. FINALLY I WENT ONLINE TO FIND THE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE REAR END NOISE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALLS, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE IT IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY SUGGESTED I HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. ON 10/20/07, I HAD THIS DIAGNOSIS DONE, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE, OR DRIVE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT COULD CEASE UP WHILE DRIVING, AND CAN BE A SAFTEY ISSUE IF UNIT FAILS. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR, PARTS AND LABOR IS ABOUT $1200. IS FORD WAITING FOR THIS TO CEASE UP, CAUSING INJURIES OR DEATHS BEFORE THEY DEEM IT A SAFTEY ISSUE, AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES FOR REPAIR. I BOUGHT A USED 2002 FORD ESCAPE 2 MONTHS AGO AND IT WAS CARFAXED AND ALL AND NOTHING WAS WRONG. I WAS SCARED AND UPSET, AND I ENDED UP TAKING IT IN AGAIN! WE FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON 2002 FORD ESCAPES WITH 3.0L V6 ENGINES FOR THE PCM ON DECELERATIONS BELOW 40 MPH BECAUSE OF FUEL-AIR MIXTURES BEING SENT TO THE ENGINE. IT WAS ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2004. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, MY DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM, AND ANOTHER DEALER CLOSE TO ME; THEY ALL SAID THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY ESCAPE. I LOOKED IT UP MYSELF AND THEY WERE CORRECT, BUT IF THIS RECALL WAS ALREADY FIXED THEN IT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT FIXED CORRECTLY BECAUSE THE EXACT DEFINIATION OF THE RECALL IS WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY ESCAPE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I THINK FORD NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE MY EXCEPTION AND KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT BECAUSE THE ENGINE NEEDS TO "RE-PROGRAM" ITSELF FOR A FEW WEEKS. PULLED 2002 FORD EXPLORER INTO COVERED SPACE AT APARTMENT COMPLEX AND PROCEEDED TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUT THE CAR INTO THE PARK THE GEAR SHIFT BROKE OFF FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS NOT USED AND NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS DID I EVER IMAGINE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE ON A CAR. LATER I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2002 FORD EXPLORER. I CAN'T START THE CAR SINCE IT IS NOT IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET THE REPLACEMENT PART IS BACK ORDERED UNTIL MID NOVEMBER. SO, FORD IS OK WITH HAVING A PRODUCT ON THE ROAD THAT I CANNOT DRIVE FOR 1.5 MONTHS BECAUSE OF A BAD PART? IT APPEARS THE BAD PART IS MADE OF ALUMINUM WHICH IS SHOCKING. 2002 FORD WINDSTAR REAR AXLE PROBLEM WE WERE DRIVING ON 78E AND WERE APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES BEFORE ALLENTOWN. ALL OF A SUDDEN WE HEARD A CRACK, SMELLED SMOKE, AND HEARD METAL SCRAPING. THE CAR STARTED FISHTAILING AND MY HUSBAND VIRTUALLY HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AS THE WINDSTAR REPEATEDLY CROSSED 2 LANES AND ALMOST HIT THE MIDDLE BARRIER AND THEN FISHTAILED TOWARD THE OTHER SIDE. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS OR TRUCKS IN FRONT OR IN BACK OF US AND WE WERE AT A SLIGHT UPHILL. FINALLY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VAN AND PULL OVER TO THE SMALL SHOULDER WHICH WAS BARELY BIG ENOUGH TO FIT THE VAN. WE CALLED 911 AND AAA. WHILE WE WAITED ON THE SIDE, WE FEARED THAT WE COULD GET HIT IN THE EVENT THAT A TRUCK OR CAR SWERVED TO THE SIDE. WE WERE SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED AND THE REAR TIRES WERE CAVED IN. MY AUTO DEALER GILBOY IN WHITEHALL OFFERED TO TOW AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM, BUT ONLY AT MY EXPENSE. FORD EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE WAS NO COVERAGE FOR THIS SITUATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND THERE CURRENTLY IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. BOTH GILBOY AND FORD TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE REAR AXLE. I HAD 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR, 2 OF WHICH WERE MY OWN. THIS WAS THE SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE AS I FEARED WHAT POTENTIALLY COULD HAPPEN. LUCKILY, SOMEONE FROM ABOVE WAS LOOKING AFTER US BUT I FEAR THE NEXT FORD WINDSTAR OWNER MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. FIRST INCIDENT: I WAS APPROACHING MY MAIL BOX TO STOP AND GET MY MAIL OUT, WHILE BRAKING INSTEAD OF STOPPING THE CAR ACCELERATED AND WENT RIGHT PAST MY MAILBOX. EVEN SITTING THERE IN PARK, THE RPM NEEDLE WAS RACING UPWARD. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS GO ON. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. NEXT DAY I WENT OUT, AND CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING WITHOUT ME STEPPING ON THE GAS. SCARED TO DRIVE IT, I HAD IT TOWED TO A SERVICE CENTER. THEY HAD IT FOR A WEEK AND A HALF, NEVER HAPPENED FOR THEM, AND SAID UNLESS IT HAPPENS WHILE THEY HAVE IT, COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE. (ALTHOUGH THEY DID MENTION A FEW POSSIBILITIES: THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, LEAKAGE, COMPUTER) AS I WAS TAKING MY CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP ON 8/9/13 FOR OTHER SERVICE, I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID ALSO UNLESS THE CAR DID IT WHILE IT WAS THERE THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CHECK IT OUT. SECOND INCIDENT: WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, PROBABLY ABOUT 55-60 MPH, THE CAR ON ITS OWN SPED UP, THE RPM NEED SEEMED STUCK AT 3, EVEN THOUGH I WAS BREAKING THE CAR WASN'T SLOWING DOWN; AND JUST LIKE THAT, PROBABLY IN 30 SECONDS, IT RECOVERED AND RAN FINE. 1) I NOTICED THAT MY RPMS WERE NOT RETURNING TO NORMAL AND MY VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO STOP COMPLETELY. 2) I OWN A 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLS 4X4 WITH THE SOHC 4.0 LITER ENGINE. THE THROTTLE CABLE STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SURGE UNCONTROLLABLY AT APPROXIMATELY 5000 RPMS. I HAD TO TURN OFF MY IGNITION TO AVOID CRASHING THE VEHICLE INTO NEARBY TRAFFIC. OTA HAS RECEIVED REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM, NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE05037, BUT CLOSED THE CASE ON NOVEMBER 2, 2005. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS CRASH. DT: THE CONSUMERS 2002 FORD MUSTANG WAS PARKED AT A CURB AND TURNED OFF WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES. THERE WAS NO CRUISE CONTROL USED. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL SHORT UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT INDICATED A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS FAIRLY NEW AND IN GOOD CONDITION. THE AREA AROUND THE BATTERY AND WIRING WAS BURNT. EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD MELTED AND WAS DESTROYED. THE INSIDE OF THE CAR DID NOT LOOK BURNED BECAUSE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS SO QUICK TO RESPOND. THE OWNER USUALLY KEPT THE VEHICLE PARKED IN THE GARAGE OR UNDER HIS PINE TREES. On or about 01/28/2023 I purchased a 2002 Ford Mustang GT for a N.J. used car dealer. I was assured by the sales person that the Mustang had been thoroughly inspected and there were no mechanical problems whatsoever. Upon delivery of the Mustang, that had only 68,886 miles, I took the Mustang for a required Virginia Safety Inspection and learned that the front brakes were completely worn out and must be replaced. I had a complete front brake job done, to include: new brake pads, rotors, calipers and hoses. The front brake job cost $637.17. I HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES, BOTH BACK DOOR WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN OFF TRACK AND WON'T STAY UP. THIS HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 07 AND A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SECOND REAR WINDOW DID THE SAME. I HAVE TO USE CLEAR PACKAGING TAPE TO HOLD THEM UP. THE KEY TO THE IGNITION WILL NOT TURN UNLESS I USE SOMETHING WITH A HARD END AND TAP IT SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN THE IGNITION PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006 I CALLED FORD ROAD SIDE SERVICE AND THEY RECOMMENDED TAPPING THE KEY SEVERAL TIMES AND SAID THEY HAD A GROWING COMPLAINT OF THIS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT WEBBING DID NOT RELEASE MORE THAN 3 INCHES. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE SEATBELT BECAME UNUSABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED CONCERNING THE SEATBELT. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING 30MPH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT MOVE SMOOTHLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE WIPERS MADE A THUMPING SOUND WHEN IN USE. THE WIPER BLADE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED PREVIOUSLY BY THE DEALERSHIP DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE WIPERS WERE THE CORRECT TYPE FOR THE VEHICLE. IT IS ALSO DIFFICULT TO SEE THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WHEN IT IS RAINING. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DETERMINE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD FOR VISIBILITY.

I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER WHICH I COULD NOT TURN OR BRAKE AND I ALMOST HIT THE PILLAR OF A BRIDGE. TOOK IT TO FORD AND SAID THEY DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REBUILT BECAUSE OF GRINDING IN TRANSMISSION. IT WAS BUILT 10,000 MILES AGO, IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. ALSO I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER MUSTANG OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WHERE THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CODES ARE BEING THROWN FROM THE COMPUTER. NOBODY HAS FIGURED IT OUT YET. I TOOK THE CAR TO FORD, THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR...THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT APART. DIDN'T DO THAT BECAUSE I COULDN'T AFFORD IT. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND WHEN BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE PULLED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. *AK THERE WAS A CLUNK AFTER THE BRAKES WERE RELEASED, THE FRONT TIRES RUBBED ON THE FRAME WHEN TURNING, THREE BELTS WERE INSTALLED WITHIN 6000, THE VEHICLE SMELLED LIKE OIL, EVEN WITH THE A/C ON. THE MOTOR RATTLED BEFORE THE GEARS WERE SHIFTED, WITH THE A/C ON THE MOTOR WOULD SURGE UP AND DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL. AFTER THE CONSUMER WOULD TAKE HIS FOOT OFF OF THE GAS THERE WOULD BE A SLIGHT ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AND LUNGE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS SOMETIMES HARD TO START AND MUST BE CRANKED SEVERAL TIMES. THERE WAS A RATTLE IN THE REAR OF THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AS IF SOMETHING WAS LOOSE MOVING BACK AND FORTH.
