THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A HIGHWAY DIVIDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000. A PLASTIC CLIP THAT HOLDS THE WIRE FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL SENSOR TO THE ABS SYSTEM TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE ON THE LEFT REAR OF VEHICLE RUBS THE METAL BRAKE LINE AT THE FRAME AND WORE A HOLE IN THE LINE CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. NO ACCIDENT RESULTED BUT TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE RESULTED.

THE GOVERNOR FOR THE 90 MPH GOVERNOR WAS RECALLED BY THE CONSUMER AGENCY RESPONSIBLE FOR RECALLS. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT IT WAS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. I CALLED UPON FORD SEVERAL TIMES OVER A PERIOD OF YEARS, AS WELL AS WENT BY THE FORD SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT PERTAINING TO MY 1993 FORD RANGER. NOT UNTIL AFTER THE TRUCK BROKE AND WOULD NOT SHIFT DID FORD PRETEND TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS A RECALL, BUT, ALSO CHARGED 1000 DOLLARS. THE TRUCK DID NOT FILL LIKE IT WAS FIXED PROPERLY I APPROACHED THE LANDERS FORD COLLIERVILLE OF COLLIERVILLE TENNESSEE AND HE STATED IT WAS FIXED. THEY THEN TRIED TO SELL ME ANOTHER TRUCK. ANY WAY THE TRUCK DID NOT GO ANOTHER 500 MILES BEFORE BREAKING AND GETTING REAR ACCIDENT BY A HIT AND RUN DRIVER. FORD TOOK MY 1000 DOLLARS AND DID NOT FIX MY TRUCK AND ARE STILL IGNORANT TO THE DAY ABOUT MY TRUCK AND RECALL. I AM A COMMERCIAL TRUCK DRIVER AND IN THE PERIOD OF 11 YEARS HAVE NOT PUT BUT 57000 MILES AND DO NOT NEED A NEW TRUCK FROM FORD THEN OR NOW OR EVER WITH SUCH BUSINESS TACTICS. *TR

DEALER HAS NO INFORMATION ON THIS FAILURE, BUT WILL TRY TO FIND OUT. DEALER HAS TEMPORARILY DISCONNECTED CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FROM THROTTLE FOR SAFETY PURPOSES UNTIL THE PROBLEM CAN BE RESOLVED. THE OEM ONES RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH AND LET THE LEAF SPRINGS BREAK LOOSE. ONLY CONTACT WAS ON THE SPRING EYELET HITTING THE BOTTOM FOR THE TRUCK BED. HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CAB MOUNTS, ALSO RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH SO THAT THE REAR OF THE CAB WAS SITTING ON THE FRAME. THE FRAME IS ALSO SHOWING SEVERE CORROSION. THE FARTHER BACK THE WORSE IT IS.

THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING AT 55 MPH. PLEASE ADVISE IF THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT FORD KNEW ABOUT, AND IF THEY WERE WILLING TO FIX IT. REAR LEAF SPRING BRACKETS ( WHICH ATTACH LEAF SPRINGS TO THE FRAME) HAVE RUSTED OUT AND LEAF SPRING AND AXLE CAME LOOSE. THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MI. IT BROKE AS I WAS PULLING IN TO MY DRIVEWAY. BOTH BRACKETS ON RIGHT SIDE WERE REPLACED AS WELL AS BRAKE LINES WHICH WERE TORN LOOSE. MECHANIC SAID LEFT SIDE BRACKETS WERE READY TO BREAK ALSO AND WILL BE REPLACED AS SOON AS HE GETS THEM ORDERED. HE SAID THIS WAS A VERY COMMON REPAIR ON FORD RANGER PICKUPS. ALL PARTS FELL APART WHEN BEING REMOVED AND ARE NOT AVAILABLE. REPLACEMENT HAD TO BE DONE IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT WAS FOUND AS IT AFFECTED THE HANDLING ABILITY OF THE TRUCK.*AK

THE BED HAS A RUSTED OUT SUPPORT, THE TRANSMISSION SUPPORT CROSSMEMBER IS RUSTED INTO ON THE OTHER SIDE FROM WHERE I REPAIRED IT BEFORE AND THE FRONT SUPPORT CROSSMEMBER UNDER THE RADIATOR IS RUSTED OUT. UNEXPECTED FIRE UNDER HOOD AFTER TURNING THE DEFROSTER SWITCH ON. WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING GARAGE MY NEPHEW WHO WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME TURNED THE DEFROSTER SWITCH ON AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS SMOKE BELLOWING OUT OF THE VENTS INTO THE FORD RANGER PK/U CAB. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE LOT AND SOMEONE RAN UP TO HIM AND TOLD HIM TO GET OUT OF THE PK/U BECAUSE HE SAW FIRE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE GUY WAS CARRYING A FIRE EXTINGUISHED. HE TOLD MY NEPHEW TO SLOWLY LIFT THE HOOD WHILE HE BEGAN TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE FLAMES WHERE VERY INTENSE THAT IT MELTED THE HEATER CORE COVER, WIRING, THE A/C MOTOR AND FAN AND PAINT ON THE INSIDE AND OUT SIDE OF VEHICLE. IT ALSO MELTED THE INSIDE OF THE DASH BOARD WHERE THE ON THE OTHER SIDE WOULD BE YOUR GLOVE COMPARTMENT. IN THE MEANTIME NEPHEW CALLED 911 AND FIRE DEPT WAS DISPATCHED AND THEY GOT THERE FEW MINUTES LATER AND THE FIRE HAD BEEN PUT OUT ALREADY BUT AS A PRECAUTION THEY FOAMED THE CAR ENGINE AND UNHOOKED THE BATTERY. HE WAS TOLD TO NOT START THE TRUCK AGAIN AND HAVE IT FLAT BEDDED TO GARAGE FOR INSPECTION AND POSSIBLE REPAIR. I CALLED FORD AND THEY TOOK REPORT WHICH WILL TAKE 7-10 DAYS TO GET INSPECTOR HERE IN FL TO LOOK AT VEHICLE. THIS WAS A 1993 FORD RANGER, 2 DOOR,STAND BED, 4CYL, MANUAL. THIS TRUCK JUST BURST INTO FLAMES WITH THE ONLY CAUSE THAT MECHANICS HAVE FOUND SO FAR WAS THE MOTOR BURNED FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND HEATED SO MUCH THAT IT MELTED THE BRACKETS HOLDING IN PLACE AND WHEN IT HIT THE HEAT CORE IT MELTED IT AND ALSO THE FAN MOTOR IS MELTED AND ADHERED PERMANENTLY TO THIS HEAT CORE NOW ON THE OUTSIDE. MY BROTHER OWNS THIS VEHICLE SINCE I GAVE IT TO HIM 1 YR AGO BUT THEY ARE STILL FAMILY AND THEIR SAFETY IS A CONCERN TO ME. (I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL AND SELDOM USE IT.) THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I THEN PUT THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL - IT WAS AN AUTOMATIC. THE WHEELS THEN FROZE/LOCKED WHICH CAUSED THE TRUCK TO SKID AND THEN ROLLOVER 1 1/2 TIMES. I DID NOT APPLY THE BRAKES HOWEVER THERE WERE SKID MARKS ON THE ROADWAY. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND OTHER THAN THIS PROBLEM FREE.

BRAKE BOOSTER INSTALLING MECHANIC DID NOT REFILL MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. *AK CONSUMER WENT TO DEALER FOR RECALLS 94S91 AND 96S35, REGARDING PARKING BRAKE AND CRUISE CONTROL, CONSUMER STATES ON THE WAY HOME AFTER REPAIRS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO TURN IT OFF BY PULLING THE BRAKE RELEASE KNOB, WITHIN A MILE IT CAME BACK ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF WITHOUT PULLING UP ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL, TO KEEP THE LIGHT OFF IT WAS NECESSARY TO DRIVE WITH ONE FOOT UNDER THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL, LATER THAT EVENING CONSUMER APPLIED TO EMERGENCY BRAKE AND IT WOULD NOT RELEASE, CONSUMER FOUND A PLASTIC WEDGE CROSSWISE IN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE MECHANISM, NEXT MORNING CONSUMER FOUND THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS OUT OF FLUID AND THE THROTTLE AND CRUISE CONTROL CABLES WERE OUT OF THEIR GUIDES, LATER CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO SET CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WOULD NOT WORK, ALL THESE FAILURES OCCURRED ONLY AFTER 20 MILES AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. *SLC
