TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER WITH DEFINITY DAKOTA H/T TIRES, SIZE P225/70/R15. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A CENTER HIGHWAY MEDIAN. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHIN AND ARM DUE TO THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE TREAD ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS SEPARATED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE TIRE WAS UNKNOWN. I HAVE HAD 2 OF THESE TIRES BLOW OUT ON ME. THE FIRST HAPPENED ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. HEARD A LOUD BOOM AT 10 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT. WENT OUTSIDE AND FOUND A GASH IN THE TIRE ON THE SIDE WALL ABOUT 5 TO 6 INCHES LONG. I HAD THOUGH SOME ONE HAD SLASHED THE TIRE BUT THE POLICE OFFICER SAID THAT THE TIRE BLEW OUT FROM THE INSIDE. THIS TIRE WAS ON THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE 99 FORD RANGER PICK UP. I HAD IT REPLACED WITH THE SAME TIRE BRAND AND MODEL. THE SECOND TIRE BLEW OUT 6/24 WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE 81. THIS WAS THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THE SIDE WALL HAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE TREAD. IT LOOKS LIKE THE SEPARATION STARTS RIGHT ABOVE THE RAISED WHITE LETTERING. ONE OF THE OTHER 2 ORIGINAL TIRES HAS SOME OF THE WHITE BEGINNING TO SHOW ABOVE THE WHITE LETTERING. THE TIRE THAT WAS REPLACED 3 WEEKS AGO IS ALSO BEGINNING TO HAVE SOME OF THE WHITE THAT IS UNDER THE BLACK COLOR OF THE TIRE SHOW THROUGH RIGHT ABOVE THE LETTERING. I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE WITH KELLY TIRES. I HAVE THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES IF YOU WANT THEM. *TR

THE STRANDS FROM THE TIRE WRAPPED AROUND THE MUD FLAPS OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAD TO BE PULLED APART TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED AND DAMAGED THE BRAKE LINE. THE AIR BAG DISCHARGED WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT 45 MPH. I HEARD A HISSING SOUND AS A WHITE POWDERY SUBSTANCE CAME OUT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE WAS NO COLLISION. THE BAG DID NOT DEPLOY BUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON.I WROTE FORD 3 TIMES. EACH TIME I WAS SENT A LETTER STATING THAT THERE WAS A COLLISION. I WROTE BACK , NO COLLISION. THEY HAD ME SEND THEM PICTURES OF THE ENTIRE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. NO DAMAGE ANY WHERE. THEY SAID IT WAS OFF WARRANTY. I SAY IT WAS DEFECTIVE. IT DISCHARGED WITHOUT REASON AND STILL DIDN'T WORK CORRECTLY THANK GOD.AN AIR BAG SHOULD BE WARRANTED FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL WITH THIS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKATA RECALL. I HAD A ACCIDENT WHERE I HIT ANOTHER CAR WITH THE FRONT LEFT BUMPER OF MY TRUCK. THE LEFT QUARTER PANEL AND FRONT FENDER WERE DESTROYED, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY OR INFLATE.

(1) THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL TURN ON BY THEMSELVES WHILE I AM DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN I HAVE NOT ACTIVATED THEM. I MAY BE TRAVELING AT 20 TO 65 MPH, SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT, OR TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION OR CORNER, AND THE WIPERS JUST COME ON BY THEMSELVES. (2) THIS EVENT HAS OCCURRED 2 - 3 TIMES PER WEEK SINCE 2007 AND THE CONSEQUENCE IS THAT BOTH WIPERS SCRAPE ACROSS A DRY WINDSHIELD LEAVING TRACKS ON THE WINDSHIELD. AS I ONLY HAVE APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THESE INCIDENTS BEGAN WHEN I ONLY HAD APPROXIMATELY 75,000 TO 80,000 MILES ON IT. (3) TO STOP THE WIPERS, I PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND THAN RESTART THE VEHICLE--THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. THE OTHER IS TO PUT THE WIPERS ON FAST SPEED FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND TURN THE WIPERS OFF. AND THIS "SOLUTION" DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. I HAVE A 1999 FORD RANGER AND THE ABS BRAKES SEEM TO BE MALFUNCTIONING. IT ONLY HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEED LIKE IN A PARKINGLOT OR TURNING A CORNER. MY ABS LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON BUT THE TRUCK WILL NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IT SEEMS TO COAST FORWARD ABOUT 5 - 7 FEET PAST WHERE I WANT TO STOP. MECHANIC CHECKED IT AND SAYS MAY BE A FAULTY ABS CONTROL MODULE AND HE PULLED THE ABS FUSE UNTIL REPAIRS CAN BE MADE. I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL BEHIND ANOTHER CAR AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES QUIT WORKING. I HIT THE CAR CAUSING APPROX. $1500 DAMAGE AND BENDING MY FRONT BUMPER. I ALSO GOT A TICKET BECAUSE THE OFFICER SAID THE CRASH WAS DUE TO DRIVER FAILING TO STOP, HE DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THE BRAKES. I TOWED IT TO 2 DIFFERENT SHOPS BEFORE THEY DETERMINED IT WAS A BRAKE PROBLEM (THE FIRST SHOP CRASHED IT INTO A CAR JACK BECAUSE OF THE BRAKES NOT WORKING) AND TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER. THE FORD MECHANIC TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THE BRAKES GAVE OUT AGAIN CAUSING HIM TO RUN SOMEONE OFF THE ROAD. IT IS STILL AT THE FORD DEALER AND EVEN THOUGH FORD DOESN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT THEY QUOTED $800 TO FIX IT. THEY THINK THE ABS MODULE IS MALFUNCTIONING. I was driving to the store around 1 month ago and I noticed the truck was trying to tail to the side as I was driving. I thought nothing of it until my Uncle Bobby noticed my rear shock was scraping the ground. We looked underneath to investigate and found both shock mounts completely rusted off and the frame in terrible shape. The truck itself barely has any rust other than the tailgate and bed floor. Also thought I should include that the hose that connect the gas tank and where you pump the gas is rusted to where every time I pump gas, a little drips out onto the floor. I was trying to find videos on how to fix it but came across a page that says Rangers have been recalled from the years 1995 to 2000 because of Toyota starting to make frames for them. *EDIT* Also would like to mention that the frame where the bumper attaches to on the driver side has cracked and now the bumper is sagging down .

FOR THE SECOND TIME AS FAR AS I KNOW THE REAR FRAME (REAR SPRING SHACKLES AND SPEAR TIRE HOLDER SPECIFICALLY) HAVE AND ARE BEING REPLACED BECAUSE THEY HAVE RUSTED AND THEY TORE APART. AS I WAS DRIVING I HIT A REGULAR BUMP IN THE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 TO 45 MPH ON THE WAY TO WORK. WELL IT SOUNDED LIKE IT HIT PRETTY HARD, AS I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED THE TRUCKS PERFORMANCE WAS LACKING. SHOULD AN ACCIDENT OCCUR, THE CHILD IS NOT RESTRAINED BY THE SEATBELT BECAUSE OF THE "SELF ADJUSTING EFFECT". THIS CONDITION WAS REPORTED TO THE CAR DEALER (DON VANCE), THEY REPLACED THE SEATBELT, AND THE NEW SEATBELT HAD THE SAME EFFECT. I REPORTED THIS CONDITION TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY. AFTER PRESSURE WASHING THE FRAME I NOTICED THE FRAME CROSS MEMBER HAS A HOLE IN IT AT THE MUFFLER. FRONT SPRING HANGERS ARE EXTREMELY RUSTY AS IS THE SHOCK MOUNTS. THE FRAME FROM THE CAB TO REAR IS EXTREMELY RUSTY AND THIN LOOKING. THE SPARE TIRE HOLDING AREA HAS A HOLE IN IT. THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD OR IN THE MUD. VERY LITTLE TIME ON THE ROAD IN THE WINTER. THE BODY IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AS IS THE FRAME FROM CAB TO FRONT. TRUCK HAS ONLY 98,000 MILES ON IT NOW. COULD THIS BE A FRAME ISSUE AS IT WAS WITH TOYOTA? SAME MANUFACTURE MAYBE? JUST A THOUGHT BECAUSE THEY ARE PLENTY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS IN THE SAME AREA.

THE FRAME NEAR MY BACK WHEELS IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND THERE IS NOW A BIG CRACK ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME. THE RUST AMOUNTS ARE EXCESSIVE, AND IN MY OPINION SEEM TO BE A FAILURE IN DESIGN OF THE FRAME. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 105,000 MILES ON IT AND THE FRAME IN THAT SECTION OF THE CAR HAS SERIOUS RUST WHILE THE REST OF THE CAR LOOKS GOOD. ALL OF THE CONNECTIONS IN THE BACK HAVE A LOT OF RUST, MORE THAN CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO POOR MAINTENANCE. IF I HADN'T SEEN THIS CRACK DEVELOPING IN THE FRAME A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE RESULTED. ON 20 JANUARY 2015, APPROX 11:30PM WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE SINCE THE PREVIOUS EVENING, THE VEHICLE ALARM WENT ON IT'S OWN. I WENT AND TURNED IT OF F AND WHILE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY, I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING IMMEDIATELY THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I WENT INTO ACTION AND GOT THE HOOD OPEN, I SAW FLAMES COMING FROM THE SWITCH AT THE END OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. I'VE NOTICED THE SWITCH BEFORE, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT DID, I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS PART OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I MANAGED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE AT THAT POINT. THE SWITCH WAS COMPLETELY BURNED OUT, THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS BADLY CHARRED BUT DID NOT BURN THROUGH (THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS). THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS SEARCHING FOR A REPLACEMENT SWITCH (F3TA-9F924-CA) AND FOUND OUT IT WAS CALLED: SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH AND HAS TO DO WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. PLEASE NOTE THAT MY VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE CRUISE CONTROL. I FURTHER FOUND OUT THAT THE SWITCH IN QUESTION HAD BEEN THE CAUSE OR REPORTED TO BE THE CAUSE OF NUMEROUS VEHICLE FIRES WHILE PARKED AND NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. I CONTACTED A LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO CAMPAIGN MESSAGES IN THE OASIS REPORTING (WHATEVER THAT IS). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD RANGER. A FEW YEARS AFTER THE VEHCILE WAS PURCHASED, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SENSOR AT THE COST OF $800.00. THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE DRIVERS SEAT WAS NOT LEVELED WITH THE STEERING COLUMN BECAUSE THE SEAT DOES NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT PADDING. AS A CONSEQUENCE HE COULD NOT PROPERLY VIEW THE ROAD-WAY, WHICH CAUSED A VEHICLE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. ON OCTOBER 4, 2000 MY SON WAS TRAVELING AT 30 MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN HIS DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRE ASSEMBLY CAME OFF SPINDLE CAUSING HIM TO GO OUT OF CONTROL AND HIT A VAN AND A BOAT THAT WERE PARKED IN FRONT OF A RESIDENCE HERE IN MIDLAND, TEXAS. THE POLICE REPORT THAT WAS FILED BACKS UP THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS: WHILE TRAVELING EAST ON STANOLIND STREET AT 30 MPH, IN THE 4400 BLOCK, THE 1999 FORD RANGER'S DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL DISENGAGED FROM THE SPINDLE CAUSING IT TO PULL LEFT AND ALONG SIDE A PARKED LATE MODEL CHEVY VAN. THE RANGER HAD NO BRAKES, AND SCRAPED ALONG THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE VAN, LEAVING SCRAPE MARKS AND AXLE GREASE, AND TIRE RUBBER RESIDUE ALONG THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE VAN. AFTER THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY EXITED, THE KNUCKLE HIT THE PAVEMENT AND FORCED THE RANGER INTO THE BOAT WHICH WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF THE VAN. THE BOAT TRAILER WHEELS WERE "CHOCKED" AND THE IMPACT OF THE RANGER LIFTED THE BOAT TRAILER INTO THE DRIVEWAY NEXT DOOR TO WHERE IT WAS PARKED. WHEN THE MIDLAND POLICE ARRIVED,WE ALL STARTED DISCOVERING THE PARTS LYING IN THE STREET WELL BEFORE THE CRASH SITE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HUB CAP CAME OFF FIRST AND ROLLED TO THE GRASS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE (4' NORTH) OF THE VAN. THE AXLE DUST COVER CAME OFF NEXT AND ROLLED TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET ( SOUTH), EVEN WITH THE BOAT. THE AXLE BEARING AND SEAL WERE FOUND 20' IN FRONT OF THE VAN SO THEY PROBABLY CAME OUT NEXT. THE AXLE NUT AND KEEPER WERE FOUND BESIDE THE BOAT IN THE GRASS. WHILE DRIVING UP HWY 20 IN TOWN I HAD THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE/RIM/BRAKE ASSEMBLY SEPARATE FROM THE AXLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE WITH A ROCK IN THE SIDE OF THE HILL. HITTING THE ROCK HAD SENT ME BACK INTO THE HIGHWAY ON THE VEHICLES TWO LEFT TIRES. I HAD GONE BY THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES, AND CAN'T GET ANY OF THESE TAKEN CARE OFF. 5800 MILES LATER, I STILL HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. THE BODY SHOP MANAGER SAID HE ISN'T SET UP LIKE THE MANUFATURER, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER IS FULL OF I'M SORRIES. LARRY KRAMER IS THE ENGINEER REPRESENTATIVE WITH FORD. I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE , THEY SAID I AM SORRY WE ALREADY GOT YOUR CHECK FROM THE BANK, AND WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPLACE THIS TRUCK. FIRST THE BRAKING SYSTEM STARTED TO VIBRATE WHEN BRAKE APPLIED, ROTORS WERE MACHINED, THEN BRAKES CONTINUED TO LOCK UP AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED AND NOW VIBRATION HAS RETURNED. SECOND THE ENGINE HAS HAD A RUNNING PROBLEM SINCE ALMOST DAY ONE AND NOW HAS LOUD KNOCKING AND RATTLING COMMING FROM ENGINE. THIRD, TWO OF THE STEEL WHEELS BECAME WEAK AND BEGAN TO WARP AND TRUCK COULD NO LONGER BE DRIVEN. AS OF NOW, VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 22 CONSECUTIVE DAYS AND I HAVE ONLY OWNED IT FIVE & A HALF WEEKS. SO FAR, NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO MAKE THE VEHICLE DRIVABLE.
