The contact owned a 2006 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while at a stop light, a crash occurred involving two other vehicles. During the crash, one of the other vehicles crashed into the contact’s vehicle, causing severe damages to the front-end of the vehicle; however, the air bags failed to deploy. The Fire Department was called to the scene and removed the front driver’s side door to free the contact from the vehicle. The contact sustained a neck injury and was later taken by her daughter to seek medical attention. A Police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V081000 (AIR BAGS). The contact was concerned that after the recall repair was performed, the air bag failed to deploy during the crash. The failure mileage was 98,000.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Ranger. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V788000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that while stopped at a red light, both driver and passenger front air bags deployed without impact. The contact lost control and the vehicle then crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The contact received shoulder and neck injuries, medical attention was needed. The second vehicle occupant also sustained a back injury and medical attention was sought. A police report was filed but the information was not available. The contact cut the air bags out with a pocket knife and the vehicle was taken to the resident. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the dealer refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle under the recall until the SRS system and passenger seat belt were repaired since it was locked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was transferred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 220,000.

My truck has been to the dealer on a number of occasions. The dealership (Access Ford, Corpus Christi, Texas) claims that the air bag was replaced. I brought the truck to the dealership in for the airbag issue in January 2017. When I kept receiving notices about the recall and checking the data bases (data bases noted the recall as not completed) I brought the truck back to the dealership in April 2023. Again a check of the recall data bases noted that the recall was not completed. During the April 2023 visit the dealership stated that it was a documentation issue and would recheck the air bag part and ID number and reenter it into the system. Checked the data bases recently and found that the recall was still in effect. Called Ford corporate customer service and they referred me to the dealership. Spoke to a service writer [XXX] at the dealership on June 20,2023 and she stated that there was some issues with their warranty person and would look into the issue and try and get my recall data updated accordingly. As of today (June 26, 2023) checked the data bases and the airbag recall has not been completed. My insurance company is believes that failure to prove that the recall was completed may have a negative effect on my vehicle insurance if an accident occurs. Can this confusion be rectified or do I need to take the truck in again to the dealer? (Copy of receipts for work done attached.) 2006 FORD RANGER- Consumer states "2021 I was driving and my air bag deployed as I slightly turned my wheel while driving. It’s hard to remember but The airbag total incapacitated me causing me to hit a tree head on. I am now disabled suffering a traumatic brain injury, and multiple injuries, I am now disabled unable to work and had to leave college. I talked to ford and they ignored me. This isn’t a legal request, it’s not for a law suit, I didn’t file against takata, but my 3 year old son was with me , he wasn’t hurt but it greatly effected him, and my ability to be a father. I need all reports and data involving accidents caused by the takata air bag deploying while driving, I specifically only want reports involving the 2004-2006 ford ranger with the air bag defect. Is that something you can help me with? This is so important. I know there has been deaths and vehicle was a ford ranger, and rangers have been in countless accidents due to air bag. This research is for myself, and I’ve been trying but I can’t find the reports, specially only ones involving ford rangers. "

Takata Recall. The contact was a Florida Highway Patrolman who was filing a complaint on behalf of the deceased owner of a 2006 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that the driver of the vehicle was involved in a minor traffic collision; however, the driver suffered fatal injuries due to the driver's side air bag deployment. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The caller related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V023000 (Air Bags). The failure mileage was unknown.

THE REAR FRAME CROSSMEMBER RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE SPARE TIRE IT SUPPORTS ALMOST FELL OUT. I NOTICED IT WAS HANGING ABOUT 6' LOW SO I CAUGHT IT BEFORE IT FELL. THE ENTIRE PART IS HORRIBLY CORRODED. NOTE THAT THE WOOD WAS TEMPORARILY INSTALLED TO HOLD THE STEEL UP TO DRIVE HOME.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE GETTING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED REPAIRING THE VEHICLE WOULD COST MORE THAN VEHICLE'S WORTH.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED GOT A FUEL CAP LOOSE WARNING LIGHT ON DASH BOARD. PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CHECKED AND IT WAS TIGHT. TOOK THE 2006 FORD RANGER TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CROSS FRAME THAT SUPPORTS THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE BED HAS RUSTED FREE AT BOTH ENDS! IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE CABLE THAT LIFTS THE TIRE INTO PLACED WAS STILL ATTACHED. HAD THE TIRE COME LOOSE IT WOULD MOST LIKELY CAUSED THE REAR END TO LIFT UP AND AT 60 MPH IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THAT WOULD BE SPECTACULAR! THE REASON FOR THE WARNINGLIGHT WAS THA AS THE FRAME BROKE LOOSE IT CRCKED THE CONNECTION TO THE EMISSIONS CANISTER THAT IS MOUNTED ON THE CORSS FRAMEMEMBER.

LEFT SIDE REAR FRAME...WHERE THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE ATTACHES TO THE THE FRAME RUSTED AWAY. THE FRAME RUSTED AWAY, NO WHERE ELSE IS THERE RUST THROUGH...THE LEAF SPRING ENDED UP BEING SUPPORTED BY THE BED OF TRUCK. SPRING IS ATTACHED TO THE REAR AXLE. AXLE CAN BECOME FREE WHEELING AT ANY TIME. THE RIGHT SIDE REAR SHACKLE ATTACHMENT LOOKS AS IF THE FRAME IS GOING TO FAIL ANY MOMENT ...I CAN NOT BELIEVE THE FRAME RUSTS AWAY WHILE THE REST OF THE BODY IS OK.....A TEMPORARY REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE WITH A 4 X 4 BOLTED TO THE FRAME AND SPRING.

THE REAR SHACKLES RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE OFF FROM THE LEAF SPRINGS. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON CITY STREETS. WHEN TURNING CORNERS THE SOUND OF THE BROKEN SHACKLE ROLLING BACK AND FORTH ON THE BACK OF THE BUMPER ALERTED ME TO THE SITUATION. I AM THIRD OWNER AND THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF VERY WELL

TOOK MY TRUCK IN TO HAVE WHEELS CHANGED. WHEN PUT ON THE LIFT, I HEARD TO SOUNDS FROM THE SUSPENSION. BOTH SPRING SHACKLE HANGERS AND BRACKETS WERE RUSTED. THE SHACKLES ACTUALLY FELL APART. I HAVE REMOVED THE BED AND FOUND EXTENSIVE RUST OUT ON THE FRAME . THE DRIVER SIDE REAR FRAME IS BASICALLY GONE FROM RUST OUT. *JS

AS I WAS DRIVING HEADED TO MY DOCTORS APPOINTMENT DOWN THE FREEWAY AND AS I EXITED THE OFF RAMP MY VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITH TRAFFIC BE HIDE ME AND I COASTED OFF TO THE SIDE. I LEARNED THAT IT WAS MY INERTIA SWITCH THAT CAUSE MY VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. THE VIBRATION OF THE ROAD REFLECTOR AND SMALL POTHOLES WHICH CAUSE INERTIA SWITCH TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. MY TRUCK HAS STALLED OUT AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY AND ON SMALL STREETS. I KEPT TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER TO SEE WHY MY TRUCK NEVER STARTS AND WOULD ALWAYS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. FINALLY ONE MACHINIC AT THE FORD DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE INERTIA HAD BEEN ENGAGED AND THAT WAS THE REASON WHY MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WOULDN'T START.

SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I TOOK OFF AND IT WAS NOT RUNNING WELL AND COULDN'T GET SPEED GOING UNTIL AROUND A 1/4 MILE DOWN THE ROAD. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ALWAYS AT IDLE SPEEDS, ONCE I GET IT MOVING AND GO UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO GO AWAY BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. I HAVE HAD THE CODE READ AND THE LIKELY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY. THE CODE WAS P0316 WHICH INDICATES TOO MANY MISFIRES AFTER STARTUP AND CODE P0304 WHICH IS CYLINDER NUMBER 4 MISFIRE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD DRIVERS BEHIND ME HONKING AND FLASHING LIGHTS BUT THE TRUCK JUST WOULDN'T GO OVER ABOUT 5 MPH UNTIL I WAS DOWN THE ROAD A BIT. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN APRIL OF 2018 AND IT HAS INTERMITTENTLY DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN WITH THE LATEST TIME BEING YESTERDAY 11/5/18. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE HEADS ON THIS FORD RANGER. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE AND SEEMED TO HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANYWHERE WITH IT.

FORD 4.0 SOHC V6 TIMING CHAIN HYDRAULIC TENSIONER, TIMING CHAIN CASSETTE AND TIMING CHAIN FAILURE PROVIDING NO START SITUATION. FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT IS WIDESPREAD ACROSS MODELS WITH THIS ENGINE, RANGERS, EXPLORERS AND MUSTANGS. STARTING WITH MODEL YEAR 2001 WHEN THEY BEGAN USING THE 4.0 SOHC UNTIL END OF PRODUCTION OF THIS ENGINE, 2011 THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR LOW MILEAGE FAILURES. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THEN 70,000 MILES. TIMING CHAIN SHOULDN'T FAIL AND DEALERSHIP SHOULD PAY FOR REPAIR. I WAS PARKED, WENT TO START IT AND IT BACKFIRED AND WOULDN'T START AND HASN'T SINCE. DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED IT WAS TIMING CHAIN. AGAIN, THE 4.0 HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM START OF PRODUCTION ACROSS MANY MODELS AND YEARS. FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE SINCE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM.

The spare tire stabilizing bracket rusted away and fell off. The rear shackles for the springs broke on both sides, and is coming up through the bed. The frame has rusted apart and it’s not possible to bolt a new shackle for the rear springs on. The body is not rusting out. They used inferior steel on the frame and it has rusted away. They should do a recall on these like other manufacturers have. This is a serious safety issue. I bought this truck new, and it only has 98000 mikes on it.

I WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY SPARE TIRE DROPPED DOWN ON THE ROAD CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF MY TRUCK GOT THE TRUCK HOME AND FOUND THE FRAME ROTTED ONLY HAS 62,000 MILES

WAS DRIVING AND THE BRACKET AND CROSS MEMBER THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE BRACKET UP BROKE DUE TO THE FRAME BEING ALL RUSTED/SCALELY AND ROTTED OUT WHICH ALSO LED TO THE SHACKLES BEING BROKEN. WHEN THIS BRACKET BROKE, MY SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING DOWN AND DRAGGING ON THE GROUND WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AFTER THE TIRE WAS TAKEN DOWN, THIS IS WHEN THE DEPLORABLE CONDITION OF THE FRAME WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE. THIS TRUCK SHOULD NOT EVEN HAVE BEEN SOLD TO ME OFF OF THE WYOMING VALLEY MOTORS DEALERSHIP LOT IN LARKSVILLE, PA. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK LESS THAN 14 MONTHS AND PUT LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE IS UNFIT TO BE ON THE ROAD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD ESPECIALLY AT A BIG DEALERSHIP LOT. WHILE DRIVING ON THE TCH IN NEWFOUNDLAND, I HEARD THIS UNUSUAL BANG OUT OF THE REAR OF MY FORD RANGER. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SEEN SOMETHING COME FROM BENEATH THE REAR OF MY TRUCK. I PULLED OVER AS DID THE VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME. THE SPARE TIRE ASSEMBLY HAD RUSTED OFF WHICH LET THE TIRE LOOSE AND FALL OFF. THE TIRE NARROWLY ESCAPED THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME. AFTER CLOSER INSPECTION ON THE TRUCK , THE MAIN FRAME HAD COMPLETELY CRACKED OFF AS DID THE SPRING HANGER. I CONTACTED FORD RELATIONS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS IS TOTALLY UNSAFE OF FORD TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS FORD AS IT ALMOST CAUSED A FAMILY OF 3 AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS TRUCK AND HAVE HAD IT UNDER COATED EVERY TOO YEARS. I HAVE A 2006 FORD RANGER THAT I PURCHASED NEW (ITS MY SECOND RANGER I HAD A 1996 THAT I TRADED IN. I REALLY LIKE RANGERS BUT HAVE RUN INTO A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH RUST ON MY RANGER. THE SPRING SHACKLES RUSTED AND BROKE ON BOTH SIDES LAST WEEK. I TOOK MY BED OFF TO REPLACE THE SHACKLES AND FOUND THE BRACKETS WERE ALSO RUSTED OUT. THE FRAME IS VERY RUSTY AND THERE IS RUSTED HOLES THROUGH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR FRAME. I HAVE NOT GOT TO THE FRAME UNDER THE CAB OR FRONT OF TRUCK YET. VEHICLE STALLED IN MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AT 46,00 MILES AND WAS FOUND TO HAVE LEAN CODES P0171 AND P0174-THEY REPLACED THE INTERTIA SWITCH. VEHICLE WENT IN FOR SERVICE AND A PO306 CYLINDER MISFIRE, BUT PAPERWORK STATED COULD NOT DUPLICATE. AFTER REPAIR, VEHICLE KEPT GIVING ME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IF I FILLED THE TANK UP WITH GAS, BUT WOULD CLEAR ITSELF BEFORE I WOULD GET TO THE DEALER. ONE DAY I AM MAKEING A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE. THE FORD RANGER SPUTTERS ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND THEN SPEED UP VERY FAST. II WAS LUCKY NOT TO GET SMASHED,AS THE LIGHT CHANGED WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS SPUTTERING. I IMMEDIATLY TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY TRUSTED AUTO TECHNICIAN (NOT A FORD DEALERSHIP)WHO TOLD ME I HAD PO CODES PO304 AND PO316.THE TECH PROVIDED ME WITH TSB NUMBER: 05-26-3 DATE OF ISSUE 12/31/05-(THEY KNEW MY VEHICLE WOULD FAIL BEFORE I PURCHASED IT!) THE TSB STATES 3.0L-2V VULCAN ENGINE. MIL ON VARIOUS MISFIRE RELATED DTC'S P0300 - PO306 AND P0316 ISSUE 12/31/05 MY 2006 RANGER WITH 69,000 MI DISPLAYS ALL FOR THE ISSUES INDICATED ON THIS TSB. THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSES THE MIL LAMP TO CONTINUALLY DISPLAY TROUBLE CODES P0302 AND P0316. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE CA STATE EMISSIONS INSPECTION. THE TSB STATES THAT IF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS INDICATE AN ENGINE EXHAUST VALVE SEAT RECESSION, THE CYLINDER HEADS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH THE NEW SERVICE HEADS AND IS TO BE COVERED UNDER EMISSION WARRANTY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. PACFIC FORD REDID THE DIAGNOSIS AND STATED THE ISSUE WAS OUTLINED IN THE TSB. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED BY EITHER THE NEW VEHICLE OR EMISSIONS WARRANTY COVERAGE. MIL ON VARIOUS MISFIRE RELATED DTC'S P0300 - PO306 AND P0316 FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REFERENCE NUMBER: 05-26-3 DATE OF ISSUE 12/31/05 MY 2006 RANGER WITH 35,000 MI DISPLAYS ALL FOR THE ISSUES INDICATED ON THIS TSB. THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSES THE MIL LAMP TO CONTINUALLY DISPLAY TROUBLE CODES P0302 AND P0316. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE NY STATE EMISSIONS INSPECTION. I BOUGHT A NEW 2006 FORD RANGER SPORTS TRUCK FROM AKINS FORD IN APRIL 2006. THE TRUCK HAD GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES ON THE TRUCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I ROTATED THE TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES SINCE OWNING THE TRUCK AND HAVE EVEN HAD A FLAT TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACE, REPAIRED AND THEN PUT BACK ON THE TRUCK. I WAS PREPARING FOR A HIGHWAY TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS, SO I WAS HAVING THE TIRES ROTATED WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT ALL 4 FOUR OF THE TIRES WERE DRYROTTING. EACH TIRE HAD EVIDENCE OF THE DRYROTTING ON THE INSIDE (THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM THE RAISED WHITE LETTERING) OF THE TIRE. I CONTACTED GOODYEAR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REFERRED TO A LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER. THE ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTED, THE RUST ON THE FRAME AROUND THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE RUSTED ENOUGH THAT THE SHACKLE IS BROKEN FREE. THIS WAS NOTICED DUE TO THE NOISES THE SHACKLE MAKES WHEN MOVING. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 108,000 MILES. IN ADDITION THE SIDE STEPS RUSTED THROUGH AND WERE HANGING DOWN, I HAD TO REMOVE THEM TO PREVENT THEM FROM FALLING OFF.

THE INERTIA FUEL CUT-OFF SWITCH RANDOMLY TRIPS CAUSING THE TRUCK TO STOP DUE TO THE FUEL PUMP CUTTING OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, TWICE ON AN INTERSTATE WHERE LUCKILY TRAFFIC WAS MOVING SLOW DUE TO AN ACCIDENT. IT HAPPENED TO MY WIFE WHILE TRAVELING IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND SHE WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED BY A TRACTOR AND TRAILER. SO NOW SHE REFUSES TO DRIVE IT ANY MORE. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT UNKNOWN TO FORD. I LOOKED INTO REPLACING THE SWITCH AND THE ORIGINAL SWITCH ISN'T AVAILABLE. THE REPLACEMENT IS A NEWER VERSION AND COMES WITH A "JUMPER WIRE" AND A NEW KICK PANEL COVER, WHICH IS APPARENTLY FOR RELOCATING THE SWITCH. AGAIN THIS HASN'T CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT THERE MUST BE A PROBLEM THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT IF THE REPLACEMENT IS DIFFERENT AND COMES WITH A RELOCATING KIT. EVERY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION, I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO WHERE THE SWITCH IS LOCATED (ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE FOOT AREA INTERIOR FIRE WALL) BUT I TRIED TO MAKE IT TRIP BY KICKING MY FEET AROUND AND IT WOULDN'T TRIP THE SWITCH. THE INERTIA SWITCH ON FORD RANGER?S 2003 THROUGH 2006 ARE DEFECTIVE IN THREE MANNERS ONE THE CONNECTORS BURN DUE TO A HIGH CURRENT DRAW, THE SWITCH ACTIVATES WITHOUT WARNING, AND DUE TO NO KICKPLATE PASSENGERS CAN ACTIVATE THE SWITCH. THIS SWITCH IS USED TO CUT THE FUEL OFF DURING A ROLL OVER CRASH SCENARIO. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET IN REGARD TO THE FIRE AND SAFETY ISSUES THIS DEFECTIVE PART HAS CAUSED. Problem with fuel pump city switch keeps burning up and causing my truck to to die while I’m driving it. I have got it checked by a mechanic shop and the problem keeps happening. The fuel pump, the cut off switch and the connector and wires have all been replaced and it still continues to happen. This has been happening for years and is causing me to almost get in a car accident.

I WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH, IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND AS I PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN AROUND A CURVE I IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK FISHTAILED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND I TURNED MY WHEEL TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH 2 VEHICLES IN THAT LANE AND ENDED UP IN A CULVERT.I SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES BUT LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER INJURIES OR DEATHS AS THIS VEHICLE WAS THE ONLY ONE INVOLVED. AT THAT TIME I DID NOT PUT 2 AND 2 TOGETHER AS I THOUGHT THE ROAD WAS SLIPPERY AND I COULDN'T AVOID WHAT HAD HAPPENED. ON 12/24/2011, I VISITED MY FAMILY IN ROCHESTER, MI. AND WENT TO SLOW DOWN AT A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN SPEEDING UP AGAIN CAUSING ME TO GO THROUGH THE LIGHT AND I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND I REALIZED THE PEDDLE WAS TO THE FLOOR. RUN AWAY ENGINE AFTER USING CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS NOT FUNCTIONED FOR THE LAST 1.5 YRS. THE ON LIGHT WILL COME ON BUT IT WON'T SET. INERTIA SWITCH IN 2006 FORD RANGER CAUSES TRUCK TO STALL RANDOMLY. SWITCH IS LOCATED ON PASSENGER-SIDE IN COMPARTMENT BY THE FOOT. THIS RANDOM STALLING IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHILE IN THREE LANE TRAFFIC, RAILROAD CROSSINGS, INTERSECTIONS, BRIDGES, ETC.. THIS SWITCH IS DESIGNED TO CUT ELECTRIC TO FUEL PUMP IN CRASH BUT MOST OFTEN FAILS DURING NORMAL DRIVING OPERATION. I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN MY 2006 FORD RANGER WITH APPROXIMATELY 3500 MILES ON IT WHEN ENGINE SPUTTERED AND STOPPED AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE. THE GAS TANK WAS NEAR FULL AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER I COASTED ACROSS A LANE OF MOVING TRAFFIC ONTO THE MEDIAN. HAVING EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN MY 1986 RANGER, I CALLED THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER TO ASK WHERE THE FUEL SAFETY SHUT OFF SWITCH WAS LOCATED. AFTER BEING ASSURED THAT THE SWITCH COULD NOT BE THE PROBLEM UNLESS I HAD BEEN IN A COLLISION OR HIT A VERY LARGE POT-HOLE, I RESET THE SWITCH AND THE TRUCK STARTED. THE SWITCHES IN THESE TRUCKS APPARENTLY HAS A DEFECT THAT HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED FOR 20 YEARS. THE SERVICE PEOPLE SEEM TO BE UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE AND I SUSPECT THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SOLD FUEL PUMPS AND OTHER RELATED ITEMS THAT WERE NOT THE PROBLEM. THE FRAME AND BED IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. SO MUCH SO THAT THE ONE OF THE LEAF SPRINGS BROKE LOOSE AND CAME THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE BED WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD. WHILE DRIVING THE SPARE TIRE RACK FELL FROM THE TRUCK. SINCE THE EVAP CANISTER FROM THE GAS TANK IS ATTACHED TO THE SPARE TIRE RACK IT TO WAS DAMAGED WITH THE CANISTER BEING BROKEN OPEN WHILE THE RACK SCRAPPED ON THE ROAD. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE FRAME IT WAS FOUND THAT THE GAS TANK SUPPORT BRACKETS HAD FALLEN COMPLETELY OFF LEAVING ONLY A THIN STRAP SUPPORTING THE GAS TANK. THE FRAME ALSO SHOWED EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER WHICH SUPPORTS THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS. BRAKE LINE SUPPORT TABS ON THE FRAME WERE ALSO FOUND TO HAVE COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME AT THE WELD. I WAS PULLING INTO SHERRY'S MINI MART IN DOE RUN, MO WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN AS EXPECTED, EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAD LITTLE TIME TO REACT AS I WAS BEARING DOWN ON THE BUILDING. I PUT MY OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD, EVEN SPINNING THE TIRES TRYING TO OVERCOME THE BRAKES. I JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING AT A VERY LOW SPEED. AT THIS TIME I MANAGED TO POP IT OUT OF GEAR. I DID NOT GO THROUGH THE WALL, BUT PUSHED IT IN ABOUT A FOOT. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MOST OF THE DAMAGE WAS TO THE WALL AND THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING. THERE WAS LITTLE DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK OTHER THAN A FEW SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS WALKING IN FRONT OF ME OR NEAR THE INSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE 50,000 MILES THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK AND IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE DAYS FOLLOWING. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY FORD DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY CLAIM THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY COULD FIND NO FAULT CODES IN THE COMPUTER AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. THEY DID IMPLY THAT I WAS HITTING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH THE SIDE OF MY FOOT WHILE BRAKING. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THEIR IMPLICATION AND HAVE WITNESSES WHO SAW MY EFFORTS TO STOP THE TRUCK. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER XLT. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 35-40 MPH DOWN A TWO-LANE, DRY MOUNTAIN ROAD, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWAY UNCONTROLLABLY ACROSS THE ROAD WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND TRAVELED 60 FEET DOWN THE SNOW COVERED MOUNTAIN. THE VEHICLE THEN ROLLED OVER FOUR TIMES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS NOT DETERMINED THE DAMAGES THAT THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 44,000.

I BOUGHT MY TRUCK BRAND NEW LAST MONTH ON APRIL 18TH I HAVE JUST OVER 1000 MILES ON IT AND WITHIN THE FIRST 400 MILES I HAD PROBLEMS WITH STARTING THE TRUCK, WHEN I TURN THE KEY MOST OF THE TIME IT STARTS, BUT OCCASIONALLY IF I LET GO OF THE KEY ABOUT THE TIME IT NORMALLY STARTS THE ENGINE DIES AND ONCE WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START IT AGAIN I HEARD THE STARTER MAKE THE NOISE LIKE IT DOES IF YOU TURN THE KEY AND THE ENGINE IS ALREADY RUNNING. ALSO MY TRANSMISSION WILL OCCASIONALLY JERK WHEN IT SHIFTS GEARS. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT AT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TECH DROVE IT AND THE SHOP MANAGER DROVE IT TOO AND THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I AM STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD HATE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CONTINUE AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THEN I AM STUCK WITH A HUGE BILL TO FIX IT. *JB
