The transmission stutters at sustained modest speed (25-45 mph). It was taken to the dealer, who determined it was affected by tsb 25-2134. This is a widely known issue and the dealer refused any servicing without payment. This should have been a recall, since hundreds of known issues in and out of warranty have occurred.
Jan 09, 2026
The automatic transmission and related transmission control system malfunctioned. The vehicle experienced improper shifting and loss of gears, including a condition in which 4th gear is disabled due to a failsafe logic triggered by the transmission control module. The vehicle and all affected components are currently available for inspection upon request and are at a Ford-authorized dealership. This malfunction posed a safety risk because the vehicle was unable to shift normally or maintain consistent acceleration. The unpredictable shifting and loss of gears could create hazardous situations when merging, accelerating, or driving at highway speeds, potentially endangering the driver and others. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a Ford dealership. After inspection and diagnostic testing, the dealership advised that the transmission requires replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by a Ford-authorized dealer. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives (UNKNOWN). Prior to the failure, warning messages and drivability symptoms were present. Specifically, the transmission control module detected an issue when attempting to shift into 4th gear, triggering a failsafe mode that disabled 4th gear for the remainder of the key cycle. These symptoms appeared before the full transmission failure and progressively worsened over time.

Transmission shifting issues. Will shift out of gear or delay shifting several seconds and sometimes limited power. The 1080r 10 speed transmission has a know design flaw that was finally fixed in 2023. My 2019 is now having the issue and is $8000 to fix for a bushing that moves out of place

I have had my 2019 Ford Ranger in for service to address issues with the transmission on 3 different occasions starting in Fall of 2023. Each time paying $106 for the deductible on the warranty to service a "Technical Service Bulletin" (TSB). Each time, being told of a different TSB that they would be addressing. Never addressing them all at the same time. In May of 2025, still experiencing the same/similar issues, I brought in in again only to be told that there was a TSB that they did not service, that my warranty had expired. Upon searching the internet, there are many people reporting similar issues with a similar response from Ford. I have spoken to multiple dealerships as well as reached out to Ford car with little to no response.

I’ve been noticing a delay in shit out of 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9th gear. Sometimes it slams but most of the time not. Anyways, this morning on my way to work I passed a slow driver on 2 lane road. After I merged back into the lane, I resumed cruise control and basically lost all power to the wheels. The vehicle I passed about slammed into the back of me. I canceled cruise control to give gas and the transmission was fighting me to stay in a gear. It finally caught and I drove it the rest of the way to work with the “normal” 1,3,6,and 9 being weird. My safety and the other vehicles safety was definitely at risk. The was no warning lights that came on. I haven’t had it checked out yet because this is same day

I have a 2019 Ford ranger that was built June 24th 2019 the internet states that any Ford ranger 2019 XLT built before July 30th 2019 has a recall for the HVAC system in the blower motor well my truck did not make the recall list but yet it has every single issue that they recall every time I call all they say is my vehicle VIN number is not on the recall but what is the chances that my blower motor and my blend door actuator does not work. When I bought the truck in 2021 I heard a ticking noise but the air still worked me being a female never thought much of it I thought it was my radio or something so this problem has existed since the day I bought it with 20,000 miles on it from the dealership. it has been tested by the Ford motor company and it does not work I have the same symptoms same issues and I should have my truck in the recall to get my air conditioner fixed it is a 4 year old truck and should not be broken I have on the truck for 4 years I bought it at 20,000 miles there's a ticking behind the dash and the blower motor does not work. I am disabled and live in South Carolina where is over 100° so it is a safety issue my truck should be on the recall the dealer should fix it how do I get this taken care of

There's something wrong with the heater motor or the heater itself. When the heat is on even at the lowest setting the heat is too high. It gets very hot in the vehicle and I have to turn the heat off. The vehicle will fog up when the heater is turned off. There's also a smell like something's burning or overheating and there are clicking noises coming from behind the radio/ heater area. Also If the AC is turned on only the passenger side gets cold, and the driver side blows very hot air. The heat is on even in AC mode, very frustrating.

2019 ford ranger, 74,000 miles On way to pick up girlfriends engagement ring…. The truck started jerking, loosing power, no engine light came on. Turned around to go home and drive about 8 miles under 45 mph. Then truck started jerking again , like transmission issue. Engine light and tool wrench came on. As I was pulling in driveway, truck went into “limp” mode. Had it towed to Gullo Ford Conroe. Now they are saying need new transmission due to Internal transmission failure! Shouldn’t Ford. Over this! Only 60,000 mile warranty.

Repeated failure of HVAC system, even after repairs, leads to not only a very cold truck in January in Maine, but inability to defrost the windshield and keep it defrosted. Repairs have been made in January 2025, April 2025, and now has to be repaired again in December 2025. My independent service provider who subscribes to OEM Ford subscriptions, was not made aware of an "internal" service memo until now. Neither from the subscription services or from contacts at a Ford dealer where he resourced parts and repair info. SSM 51313 indicates a different repair than was made on the previous two attempts. These repairs require the disassembly and reassembly of the instrument panel and are very expensive - especially when not apprised of correct. Now the SSM indicates a complete housing replacement to correct the defective part. See attached forms.

The transmission in my truck has worked excellently with no sign of wear or degredation in performance, that was until the transmission suddenly began hesitating and slamming into gear. This is a common problem with this vehicle and is reported online incredibly frequently, while this may seem like a simple mechanical issue it did cause a completely lost of power when making a left hand turn which nearly caused me to be T-bone'd by oncoming traffic, and the hard shifting makes throttle response incredibly unpredictable. Please help us with this, there are recalls on the transmission in these trucks in multiple other countries with the chance of death as a consequence being openly stated. Me and my loved ones were almost killed because of this transmission which has widespread problems and NEEDS to be recalled before someone does lose their life. Ford has claimed this to be due to the adaptive learning software in the truck, but coincidentally has also redesigned a critical component in the transmission that causes these types issues three times now, but with zero effort to notify the customer of the risk or to openly address the problem.

I started hearing a ticking sound under the dash on the driver's side. Then it would blow hot air on drivers side and cold air on passenger side whether it was on heat or air conditioning. We also smelt plastic once in awhile. I took it in and was told it was it was the actuator. They replaced that and that took care of the noise but not the 2 different air Temps. Took it back and now was told the distribution housing needs to be replaced. I have read on a recall for the HVAC system it could catch on fire so the melting plastic smell concerns me.

SERVICE BRAKES
11 complaints
Vehicle is a 2019 Ford Ranger mileage is 25700..just had to have all four rotors and brake pads replaced. rear axle rotors showed unaccepatable pitting causing premature wear on pads, while front showed evidence of intermittent pulsing, causing uneven wear . dealership informed me that their hands were tied, this was considfered a normal wear and tear. Ford Customer Care also informed me that there were no programs at this moment to address this problem. I have noticed on your site that there are consumer complaints about the brakes on this vehicle and it's my request that further investigation of the brakes and materials is warranted
May 25, 2023
This trucks rear brake pads have been wearing unevenly since it was new. The inside rear brake pads are showing heavy wear and the outside pads are not showing even wear. This truck has been into the Kendall Ford of Wasilla Alaska for service in early 2022 and this was first noted and repaired. Now this issues has been found again by owner/operator. There seems to be and issue with the slid pins/bolts for caliper are not allowing the outside pads to slide when pedal is active. This is not an isolated issue according to blogs I have found on this issue.

When applying brake you have to pump brakes, if going at a low speed you’ll only slow down about 20% if going 50mph or higher you have to pump brakes 2-3 times to get the mushyness to go away and start braking properly

Dec 19, 2025
On November 7th. 2025, I took my Ranger to my mechanic for it's yearly emissions and inspection, to have the tires rotated and brakes changed. He called me later that day and had sent me pictures of BOTH rear leaf springs broken off from the under carriage. He stated that he could not tell how long they were like this and asked if I had any issues driving. I did not notice any noise or driving issues. He stated that he is shocked that I did not wreak the truck by loosing control because it should have caused my rear to be bouncing all over. He contacted FORD and asked if there was a recall on them and was told "No". He then instructed me to file a complaint with you. He ordered the parts and replaced fixed the issue.
Dec 05, 2025
The front eyes of both leaf springs were broke. Took truck to local shop to repair a tire leak and they called me to ask me how I drove the truck there as they never saw anything like it before. This is a major component that maintains the rear axle geometry and could have been a safety risk and should never be a concern on a 5 year old vehicle with under 100,000 miles. Vehicle has not been inspected by any other parties than the shop and myself. No symptoms were detected.
Nov 17, 2025
Both rear leaf springs broke at the eye on the forward anchor bushing, leaving both leaf springs not anchored at one end. This was undetectable until the truck was lifted for an oil change. It was not detected and released back to me to drive. The rear axle was only anchored at 2 of the 3 anchor points. If one of the other anchor points was compromised the result could have been catastrophic depending on the driving conditions. I drove the vehicle locally until i figured out the clunking noise. Both leaf springs were replaced by a certified repair shop. There have been other reports of the same problem with no re-calls

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

My complaint isn't about my vehicle. My complaint pertains to pickup truck and SUV lighting. The lighting on these vehicles have become so bright that they blind oncoming drivers. In addition, I was recently blinded by the lights on a lifted pickup truck, that was following behind me. The lights on these vehicles have become so bright that they present a hazard to other drivers. This hazard is made worse when the vehicles are lifted (body or big wheels). Please consider taking action to address this problem.

I took this vehicle in on 5-19-2020 for recall (19543/NSTSA Recall 19V-839). Local dealership removed skid plate, inspection/pass. Over the next 3 yrs. the p/u was taken in because of battery drainage & then battery replacement. May 2024 it was taken in as all the rear lights stopped working (exactly what was stated in the recall letter would happen). Was told at the time that the topper, which a very reputable dealer put on, did the wiring wrong so I was charged over $1300 for repairing the wiring. The topper was put on in 2019, recall was 2020, and nothing was found then. An inspection was done and not replacement of rear lights wiring. I came very close to several rear-end collisions as I hadn't realized no rear lights in May 2024. Now, I'm getting "System Off to save battery. Please turn ignition off or start engine" again on the console. I've contacted Ford at Dearborn and was referred back to local dealership and they have given me the run around. I was in a week and half ago to show them all the paperwork, was told they'd look it over and give me a call. I've heard nothing. I'm upset that the recall work wasn't done in 2020 but had to pay for the same work to be done in 2024. Since the work done in May 2024 really didn't handle the battery being drained, I'd like a new pickup as this one seems to be a lemon, or the dealership isn't doing what they said they did. I have paperwork, but it wouldn't scan onto document.

Truck has issue with crank position sensor issue caused due to defective design of on 2.3l ecoboost first incident shut off at 65 mph took the dealer was told it was defective crank position sensor second time a month later same thing happens third time three or four months later happens again take the dealer this time they said that it was oil permeation on the sensor itself said it was due to leak in front timing cover of motor whereas oil had ripped onto the sensor causing it to not be triggered therefore shutting down the truck completely no limp mode just dead no power also lost all systems including adaptive cruise control, anti-lock brakes, traction control, power steering, forward radar everything!! luckily all three times that this has happened have managed to not crash or get hit in the process of malfunction.my complaint is that this is a four-wheel drive truck and if the sensor is that touchy then maybe they should have shielded it now dealers requesting $2,200 to fix problem after already paying $1500 the first time to have it fixed

I HAD NOTED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO THAT THE BACK OS THE BACK SEAT WOULD NOT LATCH LEAVING IT TO SWING FORWARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND SLAMMING BACK WHEN ACCELERATING. WHEN I CHECKED THE LATCH I COULD NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT MY TRUCK INTO CAPITAL FORD IN CARSON CITY FOR SOME OTHER PROBLEM AND ASKED THEM TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE SEAT PROBLEM. AFTER OTHER REPAIRS WERE DONE, MY SERVICE ADVISOR, JOSEPH CONROY ADVISED ME THAT THE REPAIR OF THE SEAT WOULD COST APPROX. $400-$500. CONROY ALSO RELATED THAT THE LATCH PART WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE PART TO FAIL AND HE REPLIED BY SAYING THAT THE PART HAD GONE THROUGH A RE-DESIGN AND A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE REPAIR WAS SENT OUT TO DEALERSHIPS. WHEN I SAID THAT THIS APPEARED TO BE A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE AND THAT I HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF THE PART REDESIGN, HE TOLD ME TO CONTACT FORD. I CONTACTED FORD AND WAS ASSIGNED TO "LAPORTIA" AS MY ADVISOR AND SHE IS WORKING TOWARDS SECURING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, BUT NO INTEREST IN THE SAFETY ASPECT OF THE COMPLAINT. As I was driving down the road I began I started to smell something unusual - in a way it smelled like burning plastic and/or anti-freeze. I then began to feel quite a bit more heat than usual on my lower back, so much I knew something was wrong. I pulled my truck over, got out and as soon as I got out my heated seat started producing smoke where I believe the main heated seat coil is. Within seconds a flame burst out from the seat. I luckily had a drink in my cup holder that I reached over to grab & pour out on the flame. It kept smoking after I dumped the liquid on it. I then grabbed a water bottle from my back seat & was able to put the fire out completely. In conclusion, my 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat Crew Cab heated seat caught fire while it was turned on, on 9/15/2022 at approx. 9:00a.

ON WEDNESDAY OCT. 14, 2020 ON A TRIP FROM GAINESVILLE, GA TO PENSACOLA, FL I EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT I WOULD CLASSIFY AS POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE (I-85), I USED THE CRUISE CONTROL SEVERAL TIMES AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 60 -70 MPH. IN MONTGOMERY, AL, I EXITED OFF THE INTERSTATE AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ACCELERATION INCREASED WHERE I HAD TO PUT MAXIMUM PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES TO PREVENT THE TRUCK FROM CRASHING INTO PASSING TRAFFIC. I THEN MOVED THE SELECT SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND THEN TO PARK, WHICH STOPPED THE ACCELERATION. THE ACCELERATION WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE REAR WHEELS WERE SPINNING. AGAIN WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE MORE ON OUR WAY TO PENSACOLA AT VARIOUS STOP LIGHTS. THAT DAY I HAD NOT YET DETERMINED THAT THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE OPERATION OF CRUISE CONTROL. THE NEXT MORNING THURSDAY, OCT. 15, I BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO WORLD FORD IN PENSACOLA, FL. FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOOK THE TRUCK OUT ON THE HIGHWAY BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHEN HE USED THE DIAGNOSIS MACHINE HE DETECTED A GLITCH IN TEST A4 WHICH INDICATED AN INTERMITTENT INOPERATIVE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH. HE WAS NOT 100% SURE THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HE CHANGED THE SWITCH. HE WAS VERY CONCERNED OF THE POTENTIAL SERIOUSNESS OF THE SITUATION. WE NEVER HAD ANOTHER ISSUE WHILE IN PENSACOLA OR ON THE WAY HOME, BUT I NEVER TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, AS MY CONFIDENCE LEVEL WAS STILL VERY LOW.
Dec 09, 2020
WHEN TRYING TO SET THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE ACCELERATING CONSTANTLY. THE TRUCK WILL NOT SET AT THE DESIRED SPEED AND WILL KEEP GOING FASTER AND FASTER. THE ONLY WAY STOP THE INCREASING ACCELERATION PROCESS IS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE, MAYBE TURNING THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF. THIS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I TRIED TO SET THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED WITH THE BOTTOM ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WHEEL. I REPLICATED THE ISSUE TWICE IN THE PARKWAY JUST TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS NOT MY FAULT. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED, THE CAR WAS NEW.

Back up camera is blurry unable to identify objects. I know there’s been a recall on many of the back up cameras but none on my vehicle since I have a back up camera that is blurry and unable to identify objects. Clearly, how do I go about getting it fixed?

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for a tire rotation, the contact was informed that the tires were unable to be rebalanced due to swollen lug nuts. The vehicle was then taken to Goodyear, who was also unable to rotate the tires. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

The spare tire is held tight against the under body of the pickup bed with a chain crank. The gear mechanism that raises and lowers the tire slowly released the tire to the point that edge of the tire (presumably due to bumps in the road) contacted the pavement. The tire became almost vertical and at a right angle to the direction of the vehicle. An estimated 4 miles was drive before the driver became aware of the problem when an observant motorcyclist motioned the vehicle over. The tire was very hot where it contacted the pavement but had not yet ignited. The tire was roped to the frame to keep it off the pavement to safely drive to a service center. The photo of the tire under the truck shows its approximate position during the incident. The actual position was almost vertical. The photo of the tire chain clamp bracket shows it's position without the tire. The crank mechanism was damaged to the point that the chain could not raise or lower the bracket. A tire fire would have resulted if the vehicle was driven much further. The manufacturer will be contacted.

My seat belt buckle stopped working (part number KB3Z-2161203-AB) and despite the fact that my truck is less than 5 years old and has less than 60K miles on it Ford's service system says this part is not covered under the 5 year 60K mile Safety Restraint System nor the Premium Care extended warranties I have on the truck. Documentation for the warranties suggests it does but the system the Ford service techs use says no. When I've escalated to Customer Care, they claim "there is nothing they can do." Ford Protect (warranty department) says the same thing. A helpful Ford tech on the internet claims he looked into it and says the problem is that the Ford service system has the part misclassified as a "trim" part and not a "safety" part so it only recognizes it as something covered by the 3 year 36K mile bumper to bumper warranty. When I pressed and they sent me to Ford Financial Assistance for a "Goodwill Repair" I was told they would only cover 40%. I have presented pictures to Ford of their own warranty documentation that clearly states the seat belt buckles are covered and they repeatedly have pushed back saying "there is nothing we can do, it's denied." Bringing it to your attention in the hopes you can help me find the right folks at Ford to remedy this issue as anyone who has a Ford with this same base part number (2161203) is going to have this problem. I'm attaching a copy of the Ford Warranty Safety Section and a copy of the online listing for the Seat Belt Buckle.

Possible Drivers side seat belt problem on 2019 Ford Ranger. Incident occurred on Monday 12/20/202, ABOUT 9:20 AM. After rounding a corner at low speed I hit a patch of ice and, spinning about 90 degrees, ran head on into a very tall power pole, anchored to its concrete base with many very large bolts. This stopped me. No damage to the post. Air bags did not deploy, but I was thrust forward, hitting the steering wheel hard. I bruised my chest, not visibly, in the sternum area. I think my seat belt must have failed. The force on the belt ripped the plastic paneling covering it from the sidewalls. My truck is now in the body shop being evaluated. I pointed out the seat belt problem and they said they can give me a new one if there is a problem.

See related steering problem report. After Electronic Power Steering Assist went out on vehicle without warning of any kind to owner, dealer's service department diagnostics as best as I can determine did NOT indicate a problem with the parts that were replaced. The parts replaced were: 1. steering gear/rack and pinion/EPAS (which seems to go by various names), and, when installing this new, expensive, and long-in-coming part didn't get the power steering to work, 2. the battery. The scenario suggests that the root problem was the battery, not the steering gear. A representative of another dealer has advised that the first thing they check in cases involving electronic components is the battery. He also advised that Ford does not have a standard operating procedure or service bulletin that says this is something that is to be done. Can this be? Apparently, at least for this vehicle, there was/is no system to check for adequate battery voltage or to warn that electronic components like the power steering may fail if the battery is not replaced. If my research results are correct, the Diagnostic Trouble Codes the Ford dealer repair tech found went to a steering angle sensor in the steering column, and things having to do with the anti-lock brake system. They weren't fixed, but the codes disappeared after the new battery was installed. The diagnostic tools seem to give more misdirection than direction. With so many critical electrical components in today's vehicles, the warning and diagnostic systems seem woefully inadequate. I have read about Fords limiting battery recharging to about 75% and have noted that one of the DTCs involved here, U3003, sets on-demand if the voltage supplies to the ABS module falls below 10 volts. I'm a layman, but these things suggest to me that some of the electronic components require substantial minimum operating voltage which an older battery would not supply, and the recharging cap could exacerbate the problem.

On Jan 04,2022 while flat towing my truck behind my motorhome it caught fire and burned to the ground. It was too badly burned for the insurance to make a determination of the cause. However, it started in the engine compartment. I know it was not a bad tire because all tires were inflated until the fire popped them. I was able to get the truck disconnected from the RV and know that it remain in Neutral with nothing seized up like the transmission or brakes because the truck rolled on its own once it was disconnected and had to be chocked. I had followed all the proper procedures and my key was in acc position. I had towed this truck many hundred miles prior. That day I had towed it 5-6 hours prior to the fire. Known issue with 2019 Ford Rangers where they've issued a safety recall on SOME, but not ALL Rangers in that year. Related to SSM [XXX]: 2019-2020 Ranger - Climate Control Temperature Will Not Adjust With Clicking/Snapping Noise From The Dash - Built On Or Before 30-Jul-2020. Related to recall 19S34. There is an online thread with over 20 pages on [XXX] [XXX] ) where numerous people have reported this issue where one side no longer has A/C. This is dangerous as A/C is required in the winter to help dehumidify the air before it goes across the heater core to defrost the windshield. Ford does not want to issue a recall for all models because it's a labor intensive costly repair to replace the HVAC Distribution Box. It looks like on some 2019 Ford Rangers (mine included), there is a faulty blend door in the heater box assembly. Note this issue is not present in other model years due to Ford correcting the defective part. This defective part causes the switch between hot and cold air to fail. My truck got stuck on hot and the dealer replaced it under warranty. The replacement has now failed 6 months (3000) miles later. This issue can prevent the heat from functioning properly in cold weather, which means the defrost is ineffective - requiring the driver to manually clear the windshield. The issue is that Ford A) knows there is a defect that can impact the safe operation of the vehicle B) These vehicles would likely be covered under the manufacturer warranty due to low miles from 2020 (COVID) but has not made efforts to notify owners of the defect C) will gladly charge $3,000-$4,000 for this repair once the warranty expires (which has happened for many 2019 vehicles by this point). Profiteering on a known factory defect is unacceptable!

I was driving over a bridge at 65 mph on a foggy morning a couple weeks ago and my windshield fogged over. I turned on the defroster and it only blew cold air. I could not see and I couldn't clear it. I had to slow down and find a safe spot to pull over. I had to try to wipe down the windshield and then start driving. It did it again and i had to pull over again and wipe and wait for it to clear to be able to drive. It was foggy the next morning and I had to do the same thing all over again. I stopped by a ford dealer and spoke to someone. He told me, oh yeah we know all about it and so does ford. The ac heater chamber in the dash breaks. Costs about 2 grand to fix. All the new rangers do it. This is a safety defect and needs to be recalled by ford. Thank you.

Owner, who had bought the truck new approx. 3 1/2 years earlier, had driven about three miles on dry, paved, residential, hilly, roads and was returning to where he was staying when he came upon a waiting line of cars. He turned around to go a different way. Coming to a slight curve the power steering (EPAS) went out. Struggling to make the curve, the power assist kicked in and jolted him off the right side of the road. Had the curve been to the left, the truck may have been thrust into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Owner then slowly soldiered on, with the truck making an intermittent noise as if trying to activate the power steering, which it sometimes did, causing the truck to swerve side to side. Owner did not mention any warning sign or alarm or message occurring during this episode. At his destination he called for help and the truck was towed to the dealer. The repair order (RO) indicates diagnostics first being done on 6-8-23, which verified the lack of power steering, and showed DTCs C1B00, U0415, and U3003. My research showed the first pertains to a steering angle sensor in the steering column, and the next two having to do with the ABS. The tech notes indicate he did pinpoint test BC1 (NO), BC2 (YES), and BC3 (YES). Next, the tech reported that the steering gear assembly had a malfunction and needed to be replaced. He added that he retrieved RVC code RA5VUMN131GXQ. Not having the steering gear assembly KB3Z3504A in stock, the replacement was not made until July. The RO said nothing about the battery, but it was learned that it had also been replaced under separate RO, which dealer has yet to provide. The dealer service rep said that even after they charged the old battery, it did not have enough power to activate an essential component; probably the new part, but I can't recall for sure. With the new battery, the DTCs, none of which I believe went to the steering gear, disappeared and the power steering apparently works. Truck is still with dealer.

There is insufficient shielding to prevent water from reaching the top of the engine. This results in water dripping on the coil packs and also entering the spark plug wells, causing loss of spark and reduced engine output. Over time, this issue also leads to rust in the engine head, potentially resulting in engine failure. Additionally, water can reach the EGR DPFE sensor, causing the engine to hesitate and shutter at various speeds. Both of these issues together cause a misfire when applying the accelerator and will cause the vehicle to initially hesitate then surge forward. Even with the engine cover, the venting at the base of the windshield allows water to drip down on the engine head, causing the above issues. Ford does recognize that there is an issue and have written several TSBs on the it.

EXTREME FUEL DILUTION IN THE OIL. LIKELY FROM LEAKING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE ATTACHED THE RESULTS FROM OIL ANALYSIS AT 1860 MILES. THE TEST ONLY INDICATES THAT FUEL DILUTION IS ABOVE 5%, WHICH ITSELF LEADS TO SEVERE OIL DEGRADATION. WHEN I CHANGED THE OIL, I DRAINED 7.5 QUARTS OUT OF AN ENGINE WITH A 6.2 QUART CAPACITY. THIS WOULD INDICATE A 21% FUEL DILUTION, NOT INCLUDING FUEL THAT HAS EVAPORATED FROM THE CRANKCASE AND RETURNED TO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER VIA THE PCV SYSTEM. IF I ABIDED BY THE MANUAL'S RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE INTERVAL, I HAVE LITTLE DOUBT THE ENGINE WOULD EVENTUALLY CATCH FIRE, BASED ON THE RESULTS OF SEVERAL TESTS COMPARING FUEL DILUTION TO AN OIL'S FLASHPOINT. AFTER CHANGING THE OIL, IT SMELLED FINE FOR THE FIRST 20 MILES OR SO. AFTER THAT, THE OIL BEGAN TO FEEL OF GASOLINE AGAIN. AFTER GOING THROUGH FORD'S SERVICE MANUALS, I HAVE ASCERTAINED THAT THE PROBLEM MUST LIE IN THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. IT RUNS OFF THE CAMSHAFT, WHERE LEAKING FUEL COULD THEN MAKE IT INTO THE ENGINE AND MIX WITH OIL. THERE WOULD BE NO WARNING OR INDICATION, BESIDES RISING OIL LEVELS ACCOMPANIED BY THE SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE OIL. IT DOES NOT MAKE ME HAPPY THAT MY DEALER IS NOT TAKING THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE A FUEL LEAK OF ANY KIND ALWAYS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO LEAD TO A FIRE OR EXPLOSION IN THE HOT ENGINE BAY. I PAID OVER $40K FOR THIS TRUCK, AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 500 MILES TO KEEP IT FROM SELF DESTRUCTING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN THE RESOLUTION OF THIS ISSUE. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE, AND FORD HAS REPEATEDLY CHOSEN NOT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
1 complaint
The vehicle is experiencing a severe power train failure involving erratic and violent gear selection. The transmission unexpectedly jumps from 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear directly up to 7th or 8th gear, resulting in a total loss of acceleration. This is immediately followed by the transmission "slamming" down into lower gears, usually 1st or 2nd gear without driver input. This behavior is accompanied by a strong burning smell and a dashboard "wrench" warning light. The symptoms match the manufacturing defect documented in Ford TSB 24-2101 (CDF clutch drum). Diagnosis & Manufacturer Response: The issue began in October 2025 with a noticeable transmission shudder. I paid for two transmission flushes at Big O Tires to attempt to resolve the issue, but the mechanical failure has since escalated. When the "wrench" light appeared, an independent diagnostic computer was unable to retrieve an error code, as the light is a proprietary Ford powertrain indicator. Furthermore, the wrench light clears upon restarting the vehicle, despite the violent shifting and burning smell remaining. Ford Corporate agents claim there are "no known issues" and have refused to assist with towing, despite an active NHTSA Engineering Analysis (PE 24-001) regarding this exact 10R80 transmission. Safety Risk: This defect creates an extreme safety hazard. Violent downshifting into low gears at highway speeds can cause a loss of vehicle control or a rear-end collision. The burning smell indicates internal friction and fluid oxidation, posing an immediate fire risk or the potential for a catastrophic mechanical lock-up.

The climate control system on my 2019 Ford Ranger has a recurring failure that prevents the vehicle from properly adjusting temperature or directing air through the vents. The failure causes a constant clicking/snapping noise behind the dashboard, and the blend door does not move when the temperature is changed. This malfunction matches Ford’s published SSM 49264, which identifies a known defect in 2019–2020 Rangers built on or before 7/30/2020 and states that the entire HVAC housing assembly must be replaced. This issue creates a safety hazard because the truck cannot reliably defrost the windshield in cold or wet weather. Loss of defrosting capability severely limits visibility and makes safe operation of the vehicle difficult. The issue is reproducible every time the temperature is adjusted. The problem began when the vehicle was still within the original mileage window of the factory warranty, but the dealership did not repair it. Ford has confirmed the malfunction is caused by the blend door system, yet they have refused goodwill coverage for a repair that requires full dash removal and replacement of a known defective part. There were no warning lights, but the clicking noise and loss of temperature control began well before the warranty expired. The vehicle continues to experience the defect, and it poses an ongoing visibility and safety risk. Ford has acknowledged this exact failure mode in writing (SSM 49264), but has not issued a recall or safety campaign.

Hood/cowling along the windshield allows water to leak under the hood of the vehicle and wets the coils and plugs causing the engine to mis fire and shutter violently. This engine mis fire and sudden lack of power can cause the vehicle to obstruct the flow of traffic resulting in an accident. Problem was reproduced by the dealer and they replace coils, plugs, and installed an accessory engine cover to prevent the issue in the future. All at my cost. The problem remains that there are many Ford Rangers on the road unaware of this problem. This problem is documented in a Ford TSB but a more aggressive approaching is needed to resolve this issue.

My 2019 Ford Ranger 4x4 was bought new in April of 2019 and has approxiamatly 73,400 miles. Over time a slight glitch in the transission got to be more frequent. When first starting out within the first mile of operation, the vehicle would hang between gears and act like it ran out of fuel for a few seconds at low speed, as in pulling out from a stop sign or accelerating from a dead stop. My guess is inbetween first and second or second and third gear. It just wouldn'd go. Fortunatley I was not involved in any accidents. I can see where this could easily cause a mjor accident. There are several TSB's for this transmission and I believe Ford and General Motors use this same transmission. I have had my truck at the dealer for almost a month after it got scary to drive it got scary to drive. They are repairing this and contributing to the cost. I feel ike they no there is a problem and probably should have done a recall before someone gets killed.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle decelerated to 35 MPH. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission was skipping gear, slipping, and shifting hard. The check engine warning light was briefly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the head gasket was failing. The dealer stated that coolant was intruding into the engine, and there was engine oil was entering into the spark plugs, causing engine failure. The dealer also diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The head gasket and the transmission were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be drive more often for the vehicle to run properly. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Mountain Grove Ford (11311 Bus Dr #60, Mountain Grove, MO 65711); and the vehicle was diagnosed with a transmission fluid leak and fractured head gasket. The head gasket was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The transmission jerked abnormally when the vehicle was shifted into park on an incline. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer opened a case regarding the failures and extended the warranty for the transmission. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

This is in relation to an existing recall on the 2019 Ford Ranger, NHTSA Recall no. 19V-839 This recall was for improperly connected inline electrical connectors from the Ford factory causing issues with rear brake lamps. I have recently had a fault with the same connector, which Ford technicians discovered was not properly connected. This connector failed due to the loose connection, causing all electrical connections in the rear frame (fuel pump, rear view camera, cross traffic warning, parking sensors) to fail. Upon discovering recall 19V-839, I contacted Ford support. I was informed that my truck was built in the same factory as the recalled vehicles, but was completed three days after the impacted period ( JUN 04, 2018 - AUG 16, 2019). Therefor Ford will not consider my issue part of the recall. Ford has advised me to bring this up to the NHTSA to broaden the scope of the recall. I It seems clear to me that this issue was the same as the recall, and likely the original dates were too narrow. I hope you will investigate this issue.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
1 complaint
2019 Ford Rangers were shipped without an engine cover to protect the engine from water intrusion.  This, along with the design of the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield being a 2 piece design with a seam directly over the engine bay, allows water to drain into the engine bay during periods of heavy rain. Water will drain from the windshield into the top of the engine, and begin filling the spark plug wells under the ignition coil boots and into the engine head.  This water intrusion can cause engine misfire codes as well as a loss of power while driving, and on multiple instances while merging into traffic, the engine would bog down.  It wasn't until the most recent occurrence that a check engine light came on.  I immediately pulled into a shop and they found the plug wells were rusted, corroded and full of water from this happening since the day it rolled off the lot in 2019.  I have had an independent mechanic assess the damage as well as had the vehicle towed to a local Ford dealer and they found the same condition- with the only solution to replace the engine head as they are unable to remove the plugs due to the damage caused by the water intrusion. An owner should not have to be concerned with parking or driving a vehicle in the rain and whether it will suddenly lose power while driving at highway speeds.  This is a safety issue that Ford should be forced to take care of.  They are aware of the issue and have been as they have issued multiple service bulletins with a solution for misfires to change plugs and install an engine cover.  An engine cover has no bearing on an engine misfire but it shows Ford knows water is getting into engines and causing these problems. Engine/plugs/coils failed, it is available for inspection. Mine and public safety was at risk when driving as it lost power merging into traffic.   Problem has been confirmed by dealer and independent mechanic.   Last instance (2/9/24) was first time a CEL came on while driving

The failed component is a small wheel speed sensor on the rear axle. The sensor is designed in a way where it inserts into the axle and sits close enough to the gears that it can be hit by the gears during bumps/potholes/etc. The issue puts myself and others at risk as when the sensor malfunctions or breaks, it disables multiple safety features of the truck including: Antilock brakes, traction control, power steering, hill assist, and collision avoidance system. Other systems affected include cruise control. The problem has been reproduced with three separate speed sensors, two OEM sensors and one after market. I have had the vehicle inspected by a Ford dealership for the issue. Issues prior to the first replaced sensor was the sensors have issues with cold climate. When snow or ice is on the roadway, the sensors have issues and disable all the above features. Appears the design cannot withstand the cold weather.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
1 complaint
This is not the first time, but I will randomly get a collision warning while I am driving my car. The last incident happened on a 2 lane road with no traffic within visible distance in front of me. It was early in the morning with the sun ahead of the vehicle (approx 7am) and the collision warning indicator came on for no reason. This has happened before. Another incident occurred when I was turning right onto an on ramp and there was a car traveling next to me (who would continue straight) and the warning was going off for no reason. These incidents are extremely dangerous as the flashing and chiming from the alert system is very distracting and causes someone to react to this as opposed to focusing on driving the vehicle. For some people this could lead to a crash by itself as there is no training on what your vehicle will do in one of these situations (ie, like a push to test in an aircraft to know what is making the noise).

PEDESTRIAN DETECTION SYSTEM IS NON-FUNCTIONAL. A MAN STEPPED OFF THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK ON MONDAY, JAN 06 2020, I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 15-20 MPH. LUCKILY I SAW HIM IN TIME AND PUT THE BRAKES ON, WHEN I CAME TO A STOP THE MAN WAS A MERE 2" FROM THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK & WE WERE BOTH EXTREMELY SHAKEN. THE TRUCK WILL DISPLAY A WARNING ON THE DASH AS WELL AS MAKE AUDIBLE WARNINGS SAYING THAT A CAMERA IN THE GRILLE IS BLOCKED OR MALFUNCTIONING. ANOTHER WARNING THAT ALSO HAPPENS A LOT IS SOMETHING SAYING THAT A CRASH HAS BEEN DETECTED, IT HAS LOUD CHIMES THAT GO OFF AS WELL AS A FLASHING RED DISPLAY ON DASH. THE PRE COLLISION WARNING ALSO FREQUENTLY ALERTS WITH VISUAL AND AUDIBLE WARNINGS. ALL OF THESE WILL HAPPEN AT ANY RANDOM TIME, AND OF ALL THE COUPLE DOZEN TIMES THESE WARNINGS HAVE HAPPENED THERE HASN'T BEEN A SINGLE TIME THAT THERE WAS ANY TRAFFIC NEARBY, NOR WAS THERE ANYTHING BLOCKING ANY CAMERA OR SENSOR. THE VEHICLE IS BARELY MORE THAN A MONTH OLD AND HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW TIMES TO FIX BODY ALIGNMENT ISSUES AND PROGRAMMING ISSUES WITH THE ECU, PCM AND TCU. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THE PRE COLLISION SYSTEM ONLY WORKS IF YOU ALSO HAVE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH MY TRUCK DOES NOT. THEY SAID THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX THE SYSTEM TO GET IT TO STOP GIVING FALSE WARNINGS UNLESS THEY ADD THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE AND OTHER COMPONENTS. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO ADD THE ADDITIONAL PARTS AND ALSO REFUSING TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE WITH ONE THAT DOES. THEY TOLD ME FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND ADMITS THAT A FALSE WARNING MAY ACTIVATE THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON ITS OWN, WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, BUT THEY STATED THAT FORD WILL NOT PAY CORRECT THE ISSUE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THEIR FAULTY, AND DANGEROUS, COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM. THEY NEED TO INSTALL ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL IN VEHICLES WITHOUT IF THAT'S ALL IT WOULD TAKE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND MAKE VEHICLES SAFE TO DRIVE.
