TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD THUNDERBIRD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL HE COASTED ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. UPON EXAMINATION, HE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO RUBBER COATING OVER THE STEEL BRAKE LINES WHICH LED TO SEVERE RUSTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 197,000.

IN DECEMBER, ROTORS AND DISCS WERE CHANGED AGAIN. CURRENTLY, 12,000 MILES LATER, ROTORS AND DISCS HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. REAR BRAKES WERE CHECKED, AND ORIGINAL WERE STILL ON. I OWN A 1994 FORD T-BIRD WITH A 5.0 V8 AND AS I AM DRIVING(NOT ACCELERATING, ETC.) THE CAR IT UNEXPECTLY DOWN SHIFTS FOR NO REASON. IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN MORE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS WHEN IT IS HOTTER. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO LAKE CITY FORD IN COEUR D'ALENE AT LEAST 4 OR 5 TIMES OVER THE LAST 4 OR 5 YEARS AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT SOME PART "JUST NEEDS CLEANING" THE PROBLEM KEEPS COMING BACK. I FEEL THAT IT IS A DANGER AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

I NOTICED IMMEDIATLY AFTER BUYING THIS CAR THAT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED THAT WAS 11/98 IT TOOK SEVERAL CALLS TO THE DEALER AND A COARSE OF A YEAR FOR THEM TO FINALLY FIX IT. SECOND TIME I BROUGHT IN TO SHOP REPLACED WHOLE TRANSMISSION THAT WAS 12/99. NOW IN 6/03 THE TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SLIP AGAIN. ALSO HAD RECALL LETTER ABOUT HEAD GASKETS, FORD REFUSED TO WORK WITH ME ON REPLACEMENTS, HAD TO BE REPLACED OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. THE TRANSMISSION GEARS SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING REFUSED TO SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY SLOW DOWN ALMOST TO A HALT WHILE IN TRAFFIC. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER WHERE PURCHASED. WHILE IN THE HANDS OF THEIR TRANSMISSION TECHNICIANS, THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. CONSUMER SOUGHT OUT A REPUTABLE SPECIALIST WHO INSTALLED A SENSOR WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY. THE MALFUNCTION WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED AT A SECOND ATTEMPT. THE SPRING ACCUMULATOR WAS BROKEN, THE OVERDRIVE BAND WAS BURNED AS WERE THE LOW CLUTCHES. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED FORD MOTOR COMPANY RECOGNIZED THE POOR DESIGN AND CHANGED IT SO CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT OF MONIES PAID FOR REPAIRS. *JG *SCC

IN DECEMBER OF 2003 MY WIFE HAD A MICHELIN X RADIAL PLUS SIDEWALL BLOWOUT ON HER 94 T-BIRD. WE REPLACED TWO TIRES A THAT TIMES SO THEY WOULD BE EQUAL ON THE AXLE. THEN YESTERDAY ANOTHER MICHELIN X RADIAL PLUS SIDEWALL BLEW ON THE SAME CAR ONLY IN THE FRONT THIS TIME. TIRE PRESSURE WAS CHECKED LAST WEEK AND THE TREAD WEAR WAS EVEN IN BOTH CASES. WE REPLACED BOTH THE REMAIN TWO LAST NIGHT. THE ORIGINAL SET AS WELL AS THE REPLACEDMENT TIRES WERE PURCHASED AT COSTCO. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURED WITH 50% OF THE TREAD REMAINING THE SECOND TIME THERE WAS 25% TREAD LEFT. THE TIRES WERE APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS OLD. IF EVERYONE WHO BOUGHT THESE HAS HAD A 2 OUT OF 4 FAILURE RATE, THERES A PROBLEM.

THE FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED 2X SINCE THE BEGINNING TO JULY 1998. THE WHEN YOU FILL THE TANK IT IS AS IF SOMEONE HAS TURNED ON A FAUCED DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND GASOLINE JUST POURS OUT. GASOLINE FUMES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE BEEN TO 3 MECHANICS AND ALL HAVE CLAIMED THAT IT IS FAULTY FUEL PUMP BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO LEAK GASOLINE. THE PROBLEM STARTED BEFORE THE 60,000 WARRANTY RAN OUT BUT WE WEREN'T ABLE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE WE WERE ON VACTION AT THE TIME. AS SOON AS WE RETURNED WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIMED IT WASN'T COVERED BECAUSE WE WERE 1100 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE IS STILL LEAKING GASOLINE AND FUMES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT . ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED SINCE WE ARE AT A LOSS AS TO WHO TO TURN TO. APPARENTLY THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO PREVENT THIS PROPLEM CONSIDERING THEIR HAVE SEVERAL MAKE AND YEARS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. ALSO I THINK IT IS ODD TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION COMPLETLY REBUILT 2 TIMES. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (60MPH), ENGINE'CHECK GAUGES' LIGHT WENT ON - TEMP GAUGE WAS RISING AND WENT PASSED THE RED ZONE. THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON AND THE HEATER WAS BLOWING COLD AIR. AFTER EXAMINATIONS  I BLEW A HEAD GASKET. NOW I LEARN THAT THERE WAS A FORD PROGRAM EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THE HEAD GASKET TO 7 YEARS/100,000 MILES - INITIATED APRIL, 2000. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE PROGRAM AND HAVE JUST EXCEEDED THE 100,000 MILES. FORD IS UNWILLING TO ASSIST ME IN ANY WAY, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND I WAS NOT ALERTED. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH AT LEAST 5 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND WITH 3 REPS AT THE CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AND HAVE REC'D MUCH CONTRADICTORY INFORMATION REGARD THE LOGISTICS OF THE CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION BULLETINS AND THE DETAIL OF THE PROGRAM. 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, TRANSMISSION FAILED, WAS REBUILT. IN 1998 HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS, PADS AND CALIBERS REPLACED. ALSO, IN 1998, HEAD GASKETS BLEW, HAD TO REPLACE. IN 1999, PCV AND PCP VALVE REPLACE, OIL SENSOR, DASHBOARD GUAGE MODULE REPLACED. NOW IN AUGUST OF 1999, TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AGAIN. NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
