We have noticed a clicking noise and her steering has begun to stick. Took to Honda and they told us they have been seeing this issue and even sent video telling us they see this is an ongoing problem. Filed claim with Honda. They refused to fix the faulty part because there is not recall with my VIN even though many have been recalled. Again, multiple managers at service told us they are just waiting for Honda to recall this. Car has less than 55,000 miles. We have a video they sent us but ai have been unable to attach. It is a video Honda Service sent us stating this was an ongoing issue with Honda advice at this year and a few others. That they were seeing these parts fail.

Rack and Pinion steering failure. Sticking, hard to make wheel adjustments. loss of steering control. issue confirmed but Honda Dealership. Honda Dealership contacted Honda North America and was rejected as warranty issue. repair will exceed $7500. This issue corresponded with the fuel Pump recall and failure of the AC system which were covered under warranty recall. Due the High volume of failures of R & P for these Honda civics locating replacement parts is difficult if not impossible.

I am the original owner. Had the compressor fail on year 4 (got it replaced)and now in year 6 the evaporator has failed. Dealer inspected and determined both. In Phoenix, AZ with heat advisories throughout the summer it’s not safe/healthy to be in the car exposed to such heat. It seems the entire A/C system is flawed but extended warranties only apply to condenser and compressor.
Feb 18, 2025
A/C went out on a road trip. Temperatures were in the 90s. No cold air. When it happened there was a really odd odor that we smelled that made us feel sick and nauseous. Took it to the dealer to look at it. They charged 360 just to look at it. Ended up replacing the condenser under warranty but that didn't fix the issue. Turns out it was the compressor that was the issue and not covered under warranty, Honda wants $1242 to repair the clutch, field and pulley assembly. With the number of complaints regarding the AC issues on these cars, there needs to be a recall or class action lawsuit to protect consumers. This is dangerous due to the smell and leaks and also due to no AC on hot days. My car has less than 60k miles and is a 2018, ridiculous!

Honda issued a recall for the fuel pump system. Initially, when the recall came out, I contacted them about the recall they stated that the parts were on back order and they had a waiting list of people who were supposed to be serviced first. It took about five months for the parts to come back into stock and another month for me to get an appointment. Now I’m continuing to have issues with my fuel line

Needs Fuel pump replacement
Feb 02, 2025
There has been a recall for the fuel pump of my Year: 2018 Make: Honda Model: Civic Sedan, however I have continuously reached out to various Honda service and was told the part is still unable. Based on the recall information, If the fuel pump module is inoperative, the engine may not start or can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Does it take for an injury or death for me and my loved ones for me to finally get the part repaired at Honda's cost?

My car engine light has been on for months and im unable to get a inspection because of my fuel pump recall. My car has stalled multiple times on the road and is a cery serious safety issue. I have contacted honda multiple times about this and they keep saying they do not have the parts its been well over a year since i have received this recall notice and over 6-7 months since my engine light has been on. I have also received a letter from honda saying the parts are in stock and to call to make an appointment but when i do they still claim they do bot have the part in stock

Body control module constantly fails and begins to parasitically drain the battery of the vehicle. I've had to swap the body control module twice now after it has failed shortly after the warranty period. This is not as serious as other issue but having the battery drained at unexpected times can cause safety issues.

Water leaks in trunk every time it rains and stays in spare tire wheel well causing rust on spare tire, tools, etc. Also mold has presented in trunk which is another problematic issue. Honda Service Technician found wire/cable on wire harness that is not routed properly, damage to trunk seal is present from rubbing, recommended replace trunk seal and reroute cable. After checking online there are several complaints with the same issue. Honda is placing the responsibility of repair on the customer even though the customer did not perform the wiring. The water leak and the mold it causes needs to be addressed and recalled for repair ASAP. THANK YOU

Last week my body control module (bcm) malfunctioned in my car. I was first alerted to this from a car alarm going off. I tried my key fob and nothing happened. Despite nothing happening I walk outside to find it is actually coming from my car and none of the key fob buttons are working.(I have 2 I tried) I was completely locked out of my car and even the physical key was not opening the door. Yet for some reason the trunk was unlocked.(not able to enter car through here.) Looking inside the care to my amazement it was turned on in accessory mode despite me having absolutely no contact with the key except hours prior but the vehicle was properly shut off at that time. The safety concerns posed by this is that this could happen at any point potentially locking a pet, a child, or myself into my car with no means of escape. The car was only in accessory mode, but that means it’s fully capable of turning itself on by itself. Had I parked my car in the garage and it turned over, I’d probably be laying in my house dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. Upon looking online, there were countless occurrences of this happening in Honda’s newer vehicles 2016+. Even to the point where Honda recalled the same body control module issue in their accord and insight models. But why not the civic in their line which suffers from the same issue as their flagship vehicles? I am still unable to get into my car at the moment so I have the part but I’m looking to get it fixed asap as it’s my only vehicle.

1.Component or System Failure: •What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? •The air conditioning (AC) system in my 2018 Honda Civic has malfunctioned. Initially, the AC compressor failed and was replaced under warranty in 2018. However, the AC never functioned properly afterward. Recently, the AC failed completely, and the dealership diagnosed a leaking evaporator. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2.Safety Risk: •How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? •The malfunctioning AC system poses a significant safety risk, especially considering the high temperatures in the Central Valley of California. Driving without a functional AC in extreme heat can lead to driver fatigue, reduced concentration, and potential heat-related illnesses, increasing the risk of accidents. 3.Problem Reproduction: •Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? •Yes, the problem has been confirmed by an authorized Honda dealership. They diagnosed the issue as a leaking evaporator and provided a repair estimate of $2,520.16. 4.Inspection by Others: •Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? •The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Honda dealership, which diagnosed the issue. There have been no inspections by police or insurance representatives. 5.Warning Indicators: •Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? •There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the AC failure. The only symptom was the AC’s inability to cool the cabin effectively, which persisted since the initial compressor replacement in 2018 and culminated in complete failure recently.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the vehicle was difficult to start and was jump-started several times. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to be repaired and the motor mounts were replaced under a Lemon Law lawsuit settlement. However, the contact stated while driving and coming to a complete stop later, the vehicle made an abnormal rumbling sound. The vehicle was taken to Mavis Tires to be diagnosed. The mechanic informed the contact that the engine was moving back and forth due to missing motor mounts. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for a diagnostic test to be performed. The failure mileage was 1,585.

Engine failure while driving down the highway. Was able to safely get off the highway without being able to accelerate. Car was towed to the Honda dealership where all the maintenance has been done. They said the car had a cylinder misfire and would need the engine replaced. It would cost $13,000. This car had already had the A/C, fuel pump and transmission replaced in the five short years I owned it. It was garage stored and had under 50,000 miles. All the maintenance was done through a certified Honda dealership.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at 3 MPH, the front driver's side air bag unexpectedly deployed. There was no impact on the vehicle that could have caused the front driver's side air bag to deploy. The air bag warning light was illuminated after the front driver's side air bag was deployed. The contact stated that when the front driver's side air bag deployed, she leaned back and raised her left arm, resulting in a metal fragment from the air bag cutting her left thumb. There was also smoke coming from the air bag, which she inhaled; however, no medical attention was received. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle for leaks but found none. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. Was in a car accident [XXX] and air never deployed instead a warning starting flashing saying something was wrong with my air . I was in 3 car pile up and terrain truck went under my car and slung it around cause me to hit the bridge and it bent there entire metal frame when u looked under it the doors where not even ànd hatch back was jammed with huge gap between it and the car it cause the front windshield to become detached from the glue holding it in place u could see little shavings of Glass all the way around and if u pushed it would move the back of the car was higher than the front due to impact and being bent the entire car u could tell was bent from half way to back . The air bag should have deployed I was hit 2x and the 3rd hit was me coming from the air and slamming back down all 3 hits where very hard. The light continued to come on and off staying issue with air bags afterwards but came on for the first time during the wreck stating it is why it did not deploy because there was a critical malfunction and caused it to not deploy on either sides i was told to report this to Honda but do not know how I have tried since the wreck can you plz Check these car. The paint has started peeling. For a 2018 car and maintained regularly, this is not acceptable.
May 15, 2025
Paint on hood started chipping away few months back. Now entire car hood paint is peeled off and starting to get corrosion perforation. Some parts of hood shows material fatigue and potential to have structural damage/holes into hood. Vehicle was inspected by authorized dealer (AutoNation Honda Hollywood, Florida) of Honda. Report # [XXX]. Case number with American Honda Motor Company [XXX] . Both dealer and manufacturer refused to acknowledge that issue warrants any remediation mentioning that VIN number and color of vehicle is not part of the recall. Honda does have similar recalls for paint peeling off for different color codes and have extended warranty to 7 years from date of manufacturer. Issue is wide spread and can be seen by multiple complaints and manufacturer communication section of NHTSA.GOV website. Issue is affecting other color codes than the one Honda acknowledged in prior recalls. Honda need to address the issue diligently to have issue correct to prevent further damage to hood and potential safety hazard at high speed. The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the weather strips on all four windows were cracked. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact was also informed that the vehicle warranty did not cover the cost of the repair. The contact was provided an estimate for the cost of new weather strips for each window. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Consumer would like a reimbursement for $200 for each window($800) as he was quoted at the dealership. Without the black weather stripping water can flow inside of the doors causing rust, electrical, and mechanical problems.

MY VEHICLE PAINT IS TWO YEARS OLD FROM FACTORY, HAS BUBBLED AND THE CLEAR COAT IS LIFTING. THE PAINT IS SO CHEAP THAT ANY ROCK THAT HITS IT, IT GETS CHIPPED. The standard OEM key fobs for Honda Civics, for several model years, and possibly for other Honda models, have a "feature" that seriously affects driver and passenger safety, and that cannot be disabled. If two buttons are depressed simultaneously on the key fob for a period of time, all of the windows go down and the doors unlock. I have encountered dozens and dozens, perhaps hundreds, of owner complaints about this "feature" on various Internet bulletin boards. Typically, the stories go, "I parked downtown in an unsafe area and I came back to my car and found that it was unlocked with all of the windows open and someone stole everything from my car," or "I parked outside just before a rain storm and I returned to my car to find all of the windows open without my knowledge and the interior of my car was soaked." Single women could encounter this problem and be attacked by people hiding in the back seat. Apparently, if anything in one's pocket depresses the keys on the fob, without one's knowledge, this occurs. It has happened to me, where I'll bend down to tie my shoe and walk away and I'll return hours later to find all the windows open during a rain storm or in a bad part of town. I've asked American Honda numerous times for a way to disable this unwanted "feature" and they've said that they've not interested in addressing it unless they're forced to do so by the government. This is a serious safety issue, not only implicating potential crime, but a wet soaked car interior could affect electrical and navigation systems in a life-threatening way. If you respond, I can upload several Internet pages with owner comments and complaints about this problem.

1) Caused by faulty Body Control Module (BCM). 2) Can't enter car, key fob won't unlock car. Dashboard is illuminated when car is off, I can see it through my window. 3) Alarm horn went on when car is off. 4) Turn on my car, multiple errors, go to drive the car thinking I need to reset it from battery change. Shut off my car, but go to turn it back on. Car cranks but won't turn on, shows multiple errors on dash. 5) Dash shows "keyless start system problem" and car won't turn off. When pushing button to turn off car, head lights and a/c turn off but the engine still runs, push/start button flashes. Disconnected battery, still runs. Had to pull fuel or ECU fuse to stop the car running. 6) Can't reliably get my car to start. Issue is intermittent.

My AC system in my 2018 Honda has now failed twice under 80000 miles. The first time the compressor and condenser were leaking and failed around 50000 miles which the dealership said was due to a new refrigerant that Honda had started using for this generation of civics. Following this repair, Honda extended the warranty for these components of the AC system. Early in July 2024, I had the same issues with my AC blowing hot air only and making hissing and banging noises on the passenger side at around 75000 miles. Took this to the dealership and they again said that the compressor and condenser were leaking and had failed but also that the evaporator valve was leaking and failed due to the compressor and condenser issues. However, Honda has not extended their warranty for these parts and this would be an out of pocket cost. Honda needs to own up to their faulty AC system used in this generation of Honda civics and extend the warranty to all involved parts or issue a recall and properly fix the system so it isn’t failing every 18 months.

After less than 4 years, the dashboard Infotainment Screen stopped working and went blank/dark. I checked all connections and fuses with no luck. After a trip to the Honda Dealer, they quoted $1200.00 to replace the Infotainment screen. I do not have the money to replace this part. This part failed in less than 4 years time. As a result, I have no access to the back up camera, tire inflation calibration, or radio controls and other functions displayed on this screen. This is causing a safety hazard while driving and undue driver distraction while driving while trying to access information usually displayed on the screen. I checked the internet regarding this issue, and there is wide spread data that this is a common issue with Honda, including several law firm class action lawsuits. I believe there should be a Safety Recall for Honda to replace this part.

The electric power steering (EPS) system failed/malfunctioned this past week. When going over 35 mph my steering wheel would become "knotchy/jerky" and lock up and be difficult to turn. As a result, I took it to Honda to which they stated my whole rack and pinion needed total replacement. No warning signs, messages, icons, or lights came on in my car.
Aug 05, 2025
Car has power steering issue most noticeable at highway speeds, matching the description of the EPS defect on 2018 Civics (NHTSA ID: 18V663000 ) but my VIN was not included in the recall, despite showing the exact same problem. The steering sticks and has resistance to small adjustments, especially trying to go straight in a lane, & snapping side to side or pulling in opposite direction instead of smoothly turning, intensity varies. There is an audible "clicking" or resistance sound when turning. It's getting increasingly worse overtime, and is a safety issue. Matches testimonials of many other owners of 2018 Civics online. Ive had 3 independent engineers diagnose this issue as a power steering rack problem matching the recall - I have documentation from 2 attached below, the 3rd was an in-person recommendation, document was not provided. Honda is the only diagnostic not acknowledging the EPS problem. Please help me get this replaced so I can drive safely. The contact stated after Honda giving the runaround, they did confirm that the power steering rack is faulty and needs to be replaced . However, since the VIN was not included in the recall for the 2018 Honda Civics, they will not offer me any assistance with the $4200 repair.

Car steering wheel became “sticky” and “jerky” and felt like lane keeping assistance was on preventing car from turning properly. Clicking noise and scraping started. Took to dealership and was told new tires required. Aware of multiple service bulletins and March 2023 class action regarding steering. Took to different dealership who is charging $3800 to replace steering rack. Allegedly not covered under warranty or recall. Car has only 45,000 miles on it
Jul 25, 2023
When I drive down the road at certain times the steering sticks which does not allow me to make the minor adjustments needed to stay in the center of a lane. This causes a jerkiness and overcorrection when driving at higher speeds. This has occurred on long trips and short drives, but sometimes the steering seems fine. I have confirmed that it is not the lane assist kicking in. It is a problem with the steering wheel sticking.

Medical attention was received and confirmed that no injuries occurred. The sign was damaged. There was no police report. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that there was an electrical failure. The vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51,128.

Strong smell of fuel in the cabin due to known Honda oil dilution associated with the 1.5 turbo engine. Honda has a “fix” for issue but states only cold weather states are affected. Our 2018 Honda Civic has had this issue for over 2 years now. Strong smell of fuel in the oil, along with oil above normal mark on dipstick. On oil change, oil is filled to the normal mark (3.7 quarts) and upon oil change, 4.5 quarts will come out (likely fuel in the oil). The major safety issue is that the smell of fuel in the cabin is strong to the point of causing driver and passengers to have burning eyes, and in some occasions, dizziness. No warning lights have come on as a result of this issue. Vehicle was taken to dealership over a year ago and dealership stated this is a problem in cold weather states and not in California. Dealership could not replicate issue.

Went to Honda dealership to diagnose why white smoke was coming through the AC vent whenever I would turn on the AC. Honda said that my AC condenser went bad, which is covered under the extended warranty due to others having the same issue but that my AC Evaporator core was stain and also needs to be replaced. I was quoted $2322.16 to have the Evaporator replaced and it needed to be replaced before they could continue with replaced the condenser and recharged the system for free. Please help as it seems the issue has to do with the new Freon Honda is using.

Infant mortality of the entire AC system due to faulty components. Cost of repair is $3000+. It is a common, systemic failure on this generation of Honda Civic. Lack of AC in hot regions can lead to unsafe mold growing in the vents as well as heat related illness potentially leading to death. This is a highly hazardous failure with a high likelihood of occurring, so it is unacceptable to allow this situation to continue without a full recall or reimbursement by Honda.

Last July I had to have my AC condenser and compressor replaced due to one side of the air conditioner working. Bad part was i had to pay to have a recall fixed after the fact and now im trying to get American Honda to reimburse me my money. After 1 year the problem came back and now they are saying it's my evaporate coil. Honda is not taking this seriously and expecting people to pay several thousands of dollars to fix an issue that is their problem.

POWER TRAIN
5 complaints
Transmission problems I have a manual transmission when you shift from 1 to second and from second to third gear sometimes the transmission will grind. I have 16.500 miles on my car and the power train should be covered under warranty. I took it to my honda dealership and the honda technician will not drive the vehicle to make the problems arise. Honda of america said that it is a dealership matter because they only make the cars not sell them. This is a pass the buck issue if I never saw one. So now I have to pay the dealership a 169.00 plus taxes diagnostic fee when the Son's Honda technician wouldn't even drive the vehicle to make the problem show up. This car is supposed to be the top of the line performance Honda Civic Type R and the technician won't drive it to make the problem show up. So I will have wasted 169.00 plus taxes for nothing because without the technician duplicating the problem Honda of America won't fix my transmission.

My 2018 Honda Civic had caught on fire two days ago coming onto Florida’s turnpike car was running just fine had no signs of anything going wrong with it come to come on to the turnpike and what sounded like the engine blowing up so I pulled over top the hood and the engine is on fire so I got a grab something and put it out there won’t go out so then the AC line gets hot and explodes luckily the road ranger was right behind us otherwise the whole car would’ve went up in flames I personally think with all of what I’ve read that Honda needs to recall the engine which is a 1.5 dual overhead cam turbo or fix it or the people that have had the same situation like me needs to have their money returned or car bought back something or they give you a new vehicle toes that’s ridiculous just random combustion I have also had them service engine light codes come on and then I will turn the car off turn it back on and it’s not on anymore and it does this on the random also had lack of power ever since I bought it

I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP BECAUSE MY AC HAD STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR, RENDERING IT USELESS TO ME BECAUSE TEMPS GO UP TO 90 AND ABOVE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A FAULTY PART BUT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY (3YR/36000) AS I WAS APPROXIMATELY 10000 MILES OVER, EVEN THOUGH I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAD ONLY HAD IT A YEAR AND A HALF. I COME TO FIND OUT THAT HONDA HAD EXTENDED THE CONDENSER WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FOR 2016-2018 CIVICS, JUST NOT MINE FOR SOME REASON. EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE FAULTY PART, AND THE SAME CAR OF THE SAME YEAR, AND THEIR WARRANTY DOCUMENTATION SIGNIFIED ME AS BEING SUBJECT TO THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY, (BULLETIN TSB 19-091) MY VIN WAS NOT ALLOWED SOMEHOW. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF COVID, MY ELDERLY FAMILY RELIES ON ME FOR TRANSPORTATION, MY CAR IS OVER 100 DEGREES AND THEY WANT 1000 DOLLARS I CANT COME UP WITH. AIR CONDITIONER SIMPLY DOESN'T BLOW COLD AIR. PLEASE HELP.

Honda has a documented issue with the air condition condensor due to leaks in numerous Honda Civic 2016 - 2018 models. My car has a leaking condesnsor, but also a leaky compressor and evaporator - which are not covered under warranty. The repair cost for those is roughly $3,300 (Compressor $1,696 and Evaporator $1,590, if they are repaired with the condensor). My 2018 Honda Civic has 30K miles and I am afraid that the windows may fog up and I won't be able to see out the window during hazardous conditions.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN I45 AT ABOUT 70MPH WHEN I HEARD A REALLY LOUD POP. CONFUSED, I WAS LOOKING IN ALL MY MIRRORS TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED, AS I KNEW I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING OR FEEL ANYTHING. I HEAR LOUD WIND NOISES, AND OPEN MY SUNROOF SHADE TO FIND 90 % OF MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED UP AND OUT ONTO THE FREEWAY. NOTHING HIT MY SUNROOF. I WASN'T DRIVING BEHIND ANYONE FOR AT LEAST A 1/4 MILE. I DIDN'T DRIVE UNDER AN OVERPASS. I WAS IN THE FAR RIGHT LATE, SO NOTHING CAME FROM THE OTHER SIDE. IT JUST EXPLODED. THE GLASS REMAINING WAS ANGLED OUTWARD, NOT INSIDE MY CAR. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE HONDA OF SPRING DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER MY WARRANTY. THIS IS A DEFECT/MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER EVEN TOLD ME THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME HE'S SEEN IT.... AND YOU DONT THINK ITS A PROBLEM?

I own a 2018 Honda Civic that is subject to an open fuel pump recall. My vehicle suddenly became completely inoperable. When attempting to start the car, all of the dashboard lights come on, but the engine will not start or crank. The vehicle has power but will not turn over at all. This failure happened without any prior warning. I contacted Nalley Honda in Union City, GA, and they confirmed that the issue is related to the fuel pump recall. However, they refused to provide towing for the vehicle and told me the earliest appointment available would be over a week out, despite the vehicle being undrivable due to this known safety defect. This situation puts my safety and my family’s safety at risk, as I am now stranded without reliable transportation because of a manufacturer defect. The problem has been acknowledged by the dealership but has not been resolved because of their refusal to assist with towing or provide a timely repair. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the failure—this happened suddenly. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue further, as it presents a serious safety concern. I also want to report that Honda has not provided towing assistance or a loaner vehicle while the safety recall repair is pending, which leaves me without any transportation.

I was driving today and for no reason at all the cars anti collision system automatically braked hard and could have caused an accident if someone was driving behind me. There was no one, objects or vehicles around my car at the time that would cause it to happen.
Jun 08, 2025
When driving, if the sunlight is just right casting shadows in front of the car from trees, or while traveling down a divided highway passing 18 wheelers (mainly in the evening), the shadow created causes a false alarm on the collision avoidance system causing it to react by hard deceleration. This is also accompanied by the audible BRAKE alert coming across the gauge cluster. While at highway speeds, it can really startle you and possibly cause you to be rear ended due to the sudden and Unneed braking. You have to get hard on the accelerator in order to overcome the computer trying to slow you down. There is a recall on OTHER Honda vehicles for this exact thing, and it needs to be expanded to the Civic as it suffers from the same problem. The approximate date section only contains 1 date, but yet it has happened numerous times.

I was driving through an intersection when my car suddenly applied the brakes even though the vehicle in front was way ahead of me and in motion. Thankfully the driver behind me was not close enough to have collided with the rear of my vehicle. Prior to this happening as i was driving on the highway, the vehicle did mark the brake warning sign even though I was at a safe distance from the vehicle in front. This is the first time i have encountered this problem, howevever i am very scared that this could cause an accident in the future if it were to happen again.

Two components failed safety inspection: 1. replace steering wheel assembly. Steering gear is faulty. 2. Alignment- 4 wheel alignment- required with steering gear replacement. Yes, available for inspection upon request. Diagnostics ran 12/9/2024. This is a repeat problem as this occurred in 1/2023, as well. Safety concern: I am a single mom and three instances while my child was in the vehicle the car has self corrected it’s steering towards other vehicles in traffic. Yes, problem has been reproduced. Both codes received from service center 12/2/2024 and diagnostics ran by dealer 12/9/2024 (first available appointment.) Honda dealership has diagnosed (can provide documentation) and Honda Corp has been made aware of this 12/3/2024 initial contact to NHTSA & Honda Corp with suspected issue and called both 12/9/2024 with confirmation upon receipt of diagnostics. This occurred in January 2023 and the entire steering system was replaced. Upon replacement the issue has not acted up again until around 11/29/24. The replacement did not make a full two years before reoccurring failure.

I filled complaint few days ago and want to update findings. I brought car to Honda dealership due to sticking steering wheel. They right away were aware of the problem and asked the service manager to come speak to me. He said he would take the car for a quick drive around parking lot to verify problem. Upon return he said the steering rack was definitely the problem and had to be replaced. I asked how he was so sure of this, was this a common problem? He said yes, it’s a growing issue and had already replaced 5-6 in the last month on the year Civics and CRVs. They worked up a quote for replacing the rack. $6,971.60! The car only has 57,291 miles on it, it is out of warranty by 13 months. He said if had only been 6 months out of warranty he could have covered it. He said it was out of his hands. Cost of this repair is 30% of the cars value! I asked if the car was safe to drive as this is my daughter’s car. He said in his opinion it was, and he didn’t think it would get worse. My daughter said problem gets worse after about 40 minutes of driving, so I just took it on a long drive. Not only does it get worse but it’s almost uncontrollable. I gave her my car to drive until we figure out what to do. We certainly do not have the money to repair this as I’m sure 1,000’s of other owners who have the same problem. This is going to start causing accidents on our roadways. This is a very serious issue that Honda is very aware of.

The electric power steering is bad in this model vehicle. Once the car is warmed up, it begins to have a stick/jerky steering wheel. It is difficult to make minor adjustments while driving straight, as the wheel jerks one way or the other when there is a problem. There is a recall on the EPS on 2018 Honda Civics, however my VIN does not fall into the recall, and it should because it is a faulty part and is unsafe to drive. The sticky steering wheel will even show itself when in park. Steering should be smooth and this should not be an issue on a car with such low mileage. I have taken the vehicle to a certified Honda mechanic and they recommended replacing the EPS rack. This should not be an issue on a car this new.

Turning the steering wheel requires more force because there’s resistance. It’’s possible to turn the wheel to the left, let go of it and it’ll stay in that direction instead of rotating back. This causes major issues on the highway and during heavy rain. The slightest adjustment causes overcorrection. It’s also accompanied by this creaky/clicking noise.
Dec 04, 2023
When the car gets hot after about 10 mins of driving in spring/summer weather the steering wheel feels like it’s sticks and the steering gets very tight. I then have to over compensate to stay in my lane and it’s constant until you stop and allow the car to cool off again.

A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT TO I SUBMITTED ABOUT THIS VEHICLE WAS RELEVANT TO THE REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTERING ON ITS OWN. UPDATE - BACKED BY INSURANCE CLAIMS, IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. ONCE FOR EVERY YEAR THE CAR HAS BEEN OWNED. THIS ISSUE SIGNIFICANTLY NEEDS ATTENTION. THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT AN AC UNIT. THEY MANUFACTURED A CAR WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS. LISTED AS A RECALL BY ALL INFORMATION I SEEN, I WAS OBLIGATED TO PAY A LITTLE OVER $300 FOR THE "RECALL". ONCE FINALLY GETTING A CHANCE TAKING IT BACK IN BECAUSE THE ISSUE WAS NEVER FIXED, THEY RUN TESTS, AND TELL ME THE COMPRESSOR IS BAD AND IS GOING TO COST $1400, MORE THAN THE $1200 IT WAS THE FIRST TIME. ABOVE ALL, THE BUSINESS PRACTICES IN WHICH THEY ACCOUNT FOR THE RECALLS NEEDS TO BE EVALUATED. THE PORTION OF THE COST OF THE FIRST WORK ON THE AC SYSTEM WAS LABELLED AS "GOODWILL" WHICH IS THE REASON THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX IT THIS TIME. THEY SAID "GOOD WILL" IS A ONE TIME THING. THIS IS ALSO HOW THEY OBLIGATED ME TO PAY FOR PART OF A RECALLED PART THAT AT THE TIME THEY TOLD ME WAS A "VOLUNTARY RECALL" AND WOULD THEREFORE NOT BE SUBJECT TO THE STANDARD LAWS SURROUNDING RECALLS. HONDA IS GENUINELY UP TO NO GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE THOROUGHLY EVALUATED.

ON THE AFTERNOON OF 8/21/2018, I WAS DRIVING MY 2018 HONDA CIVIC (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) TO PICK UP MY SON FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. AS I WAS MOVING THROUGH THE CAR RIDER LINE (WHICH IS ON A DOWNHILL SLOPE), I TURNED ON THE BRAKE HOLD ASSIST FEATURE SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO CONSTANTLY PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AS I'M WAITING IN LINE. AS MY SON IS ENTERING THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR, THE CAR STARTS ROLLING FORWARD. AS I TURN FORWARD AND SLAM ON THE BRAKES, THERE IS A YOUNG BOY AN INCH AWAY FROM MY BUMPER. THEN LIGHTS APPEAR ON MY DASH DISPLAY INDICATING THERE IS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE HOLD SYSTEM (SEE ATTACHED PHOTO). THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THIS INSTANCE, BUT BOTH MY SON AND THE CHILD IN FRONT OF MY CAR COULD BOTH HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AS A RESULT OF THE FAULTY SYSTEM. IF HONDA'S BRAKE HOLD ASSIST FEATURE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO FAIL SUDDENLY IN THIS FASHION, IT SHOULD NOT BE A FEATURE IN THE VEHICLE AT ALL. IT PROVIDES DRIVER'S WITH A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY THAT THEIR BRAKES ARE ENGAGED, BUT WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILS THE BRAKE SUDDENLY DISENGAGES ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FREELY.

My steering wheel was sticking. At speeds above 45 it was much more noticeable. When I was driving in a strait line and had to move the steering slightly the steering wheel would stick. It would cause the car to pull to one side and when you adjust the wheel to in the opposite side it would do the same thing. You where driving in a straight road constantly over correcting , playing ping pong to keep your car in the lane. When I looked on the internet this seems to be a common problem. I had my car looked at a Honda dealership. They told me there was no recall. My only choice was to get it repaired. It cost me 4,546.35 to be repaired. I bought a Honda for dependability and feel they should take responsibility for this before someone gets seriously injured.

March 5th 2020 I finally recorded a message that had been appearing in my dash board during late night drives. Message read as "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" "Collision Mitigation System Problem" I notified Honda of North Hollywood service department at the time, and they said they could not do anything to fix the problem unless the message was actively displayed on the dash board during the time of service. Unfortunate for me the message would come and go and would not remain on for the service advisor to see. Several times my vehicle would randomly brake abruptly (to a screeching halt) due to a malfunction in detecting cars/objects around me. Luckily I managed to not crash or have other vehicles crash into my car from behind, but it scared me. I've always wondered what the issue was, and was never able to get it resolved because I didn't have proof of the abrupt stops. Fast forward to May 2024 I received a letter in the mail for a recall on the fuel pump module. I think this might have something to also do with not being able to start my car three times within one year... I ended up replacing multiple batteries and cleansing the fuel tank thinking that was the issue and I have been mobile since then. I have contacted Curry Honda in Georgia multiple times to get the recall resolved. 8 months since I received the recall notice, and the issue is still unresolved. Please help. I rely on this vehicle to get to work, and I am still paying on this car. I am concerned of the safety issue.

This was such a strange occurance. After pulling off from a stop sign attempting a right turn, my vehicle stalled, readjusted, then stalled again. I was driving on a cobblestone road while it was raining, but did not find any issues with vision or traction. However, during this process, my passenger airbag deployed out of nowhere causing me to immediately stop the car to see if I had hit something. There was nothing under or beside my car indicating any significant impact that would have caused this to happen. There were no other cars, or any pedestrians involved, nor any debris or blockade in the road so I did not file a police report or contact my insurace. My sister was in the passenger seat, and my 3 children in the back. No one sustained any injuries, but the entire incident was extremely startling, shocking, and confusing. There is no damage on my car that suggests I hit something, but I have no idea what could have caused an airbag to deploy, and why only that one? Being that I was pulling off on a turn, I was not going fast enough for me to think that the cobblestone could have set off a "pothole like" effect to the sensors. After research revealed there have been recalls on previous models concerning the Takata airbags, I reached out to a local Honda dealer for help. The associate immediately disregarded my account of the incident stating that "there hasn't been any recalls on the 2018 Honda Civic" and that I should "take it to a body shop and see if the insurance will take care of it". I assumed he had no intention of helping me AT ALL because I had reached the service department with a Honda service issue, so why would he not at least offer to have me bring it in to be fix there, even if I had to pay out of pocket? This lead me to do further research in which I found that there is in fact a current recall on the fuel pump, which is known to cause issues with stalling. I feel misled by Honda, and would like an explanation, as well as accountability.

Car threw a p0035 code which indicates a problem with the turbo bypass valve solenoid high voltage/circuit. Car suddenly lost power and had many service lights go off. The check engine light, power steering, brakes, stability, and other lights went on. This prevents my car from going over 40 MPH without feeling like the car is struggling to accelerate. The dealership couldn't reproduce or confirm the issue when I went in for service. The code will disappear and reappear after a few starts ups. I noticed that the 2017 type R has this recall but I'm noticing a lot of other owners having this issue as well.

My 2018 Honda Civic is presenting with issues related to another safety recall, but my Vin doesn't come up for that recall. I got diagnostics done for this issue at a Honda certified dealership, the wanted over $5600 to repair the safety recall issue because my Vin doesn't come up for that specific recall- only one of the safety recalls, which they do not have parts for. I got a second opinion with another mechanic who confirmed that what's going on with my car is a recall safety issue on Honda's part, not my own. My car is not safe to drive due to a rack and pinion safety issue and a fuel pump issue and the safety issues have gotten worse. Others and my own safety is put at risk because the car doesn't have a lot of power to maneuver the vehicle safely as well as the steering locking up. My vehicle shows no lights on the dash.

Every so often, quite a few lights will come on my dash. These lights include and relate to problems with power steering, hill start assist, emissions system, traction control tire pressure, and brake system. It does not allow me to use my brake hold when this happens. Also, unsure if it has anything to do with it, it has caused a problem with my first cylinder and is reading that the fuel system is too rich. But the original few lights that come on, will come and go randomly when the car is shut off overnight and will typically stay gone until the car sits with the parking break on for a few minutes.

The tire pressure monitoring, brake system, electronic power steering, and stability assist warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The power steering was corrected after restarting the vehicle; however, the warning lights were still illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with lost communication with the steering angle sensor. The dealer calibrated the steering angle sensor and cleared the DTC, then test drove the vehicle. The failure recurred a week later with an additional unknown warning light. The vehicle was towed a second time back to the dealer, who diagnosed that rodents were chewing the steering column wires. The dealer replaced the steering column wires and wrapped them in a tape produced by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the steering column wires were soy-insulated, which could attract rodents. The failure mileage was 31,879.

On 05.02.2021, I was driving our CAR in Philadelphia, and stopped at red light. When I started driving in heavy stop and go traffic knowing I had to stop in 200 ft. brakes failed, brake pedal went to the floor and the car accelerated, emergency brakes didn’t start and Forward collision warning didn’t work. I hit the car in front of me. My car was totaled, more cars were damaged. Two months before this accident I was driving on a crowded Philadelphia city street and when I put on the brakes exactly the same thing happened - brakes failed, car accelerated, emergency braking didn’t function, Forward collision warning didn’t work. I drove the car to the edge of sidewalk to stop it. Nobody got hurt but the front of the car was damaged. I took it to Honda to investigate the brake failure. First the dealer said they checked and there was nothing wrong we can take to car. Later Honda America told the dealer, the car is not safe and we can’t get it back until they send an expert to check. After the expert, service people at the dealership said the car was OK. The problem could be an unsecured floor mat that interfered with the brakes and that is why brakes failed. We asked why the emergence brakes didn’t work. They said “when you pushed the brake the computer has a message that brakes are pushed and emergency brakes don’t come on functioning”. We removed the moveable floor mat and asked for the expert report. They told me he didn’t write a report. Later when I confronted Honda America they said there was a written report but I did not have the right to see it. Honda America also refused any responsibility saying it was up to the insurance company and they were closing the report.I believe Honda America is not acting responsibly. HONDA should share the expert report after the first accident, should investigate what went wrong during the accident, should try to figure out why the brakes failed twice in the same way in a two months period but operated fine in between.

MY CAR MAKES LIKE A CLICKING NOISE INTERMITTENTLY WHILE ACCELERATING. WHEN IT'S MAKING THIS NOISE IT HAS STOPPED ACCELERATING. I HAVE TO RELEASE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS FOR A COUPLE SECONDS THEN WHEN I ACCELERATE, IT IS BACK TO NORMAL.THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY DAY ANYMORE BUT AT ONE POINT IT WAS HAPPENING PRETTY MUCH AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN OCTOBER 2020 ND NOVEMBER 2020 AND ASKED THEM TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. I TOLD THEM IT MAY BE THE FUEL PUMP/SYSTEM OR SOMETHING WITH THE ACCELERATOR, AND PRECEDED TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE NOISE. BOTH TIMES THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE NOISE AND THEREFORE COULD NOT FIX OR DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. IT HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, ON A HILL, ACCELERATING QUICKLY, AND SOMETIMES JUST GOOD OLD FASHIONED REGULAR ACCELERATING. IT HAS MADE ME LOSE TRUST IN THE CAR LIKE I COULD BE TURNING OR PASSING SOMEONE AND IT HAPPENS WHEN EVERYONE OND IS CRITICAL. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE BEEN ACCELERATING VERY SLOWLY TO TRY TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF TIMES IT HAPPENS BUT IT STILL HAPPENS. CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS.

IF YOU GO ALL THE WAY BACK AND LEAN ALL THE WAY BACK (AS TO NOT HIT THE AIRBAG AND NOT LAY DOWN) IT MAKES AN AWFUL DING NOISE IN THE SEAT THAT CAN BE FELT AS IF A GIANT SPRING IS POPPING UNDER THE SEAT CUSHION AND YOU CAN LITERALLY FEEL IT HIT HARD. AS IF IT MIGHT POP THRU THE SEAT INTO YOUR BUTT CHEEK... SCARED ME

ON JUNE 21, 2019, OWNER OF A 2018 HONDA CIVIC 5 DOOR HATCHBACK GRAND TOURING WAS DRIVING ALONG A 4 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY IN A 45 M.P.H. ZONE. SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 46 M.P.H. THE COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM (CMBS) SUDDENLY ACTIVATED WITHOUT THERE BEING A VEHICLE OR PERSON IN FRONT OR TO THE IMMEDIATE EITHER SIDE FRONT OF THE CAR. THE CMBS WENT DIRECTLY INTO STAGE 3 ACTIVATION OUT A POSSIBLE 3 CMBS STAGES. THESE ARE: STAGE 1: VISUAL AND AUDIBLE WARNING STAGE 2: VISUAL AND AUDIBLE WARNING AND LIGHT BRAKE APPLICATION STAGE 3: VISUAL AND AUDIBLE WARNING AND STRONG BRAKE APPLICATION THIS ALMOST CAUSED OWNERS CAR TO BE REAR ENDED BY THE VEHICLE TRAVELING DIRECTLY BEHIND OWNERS CAR DUE TO THE VIOLENT AND STRONG APPLICATION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN OWNERS CAR. REMEMBER, NO CARS TO FRONT OR IMMEDIATE FRONT SIDES OR A PERSON IN THOSE POSITIONS EITHER. THE APPLICATION OF THE CMBS CAUSED AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY TO THE OWNER OF THE 2018 HONDA CIVIC OR THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO THE REAR OF OWNERS' VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT. DEALER STATES COMPUTER GLITCH IN DATA SYSTEM. NO CODES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS EVENT WERE FOUND. AND A VERBAL STATEMENT FROM TECHNICIAN OF 'THESE THINGS HAPPEN'. NOT VERY SATISFACTORY ANSWER WHEN THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO SHOP IN CONJUNCTION WITH A HOPEFULLY SEPARATE ISSUE THAT WILL BE REPORTED SEPARATELY. THE TECHNICIAN CLEARED ALL CODES AND TEST DROVE VEHICLE FOR 2 MILES. TECHNICIAN STATED SHE COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND RELEASED CAR. OWNER HAD TO RETURN TO SHOP TO HAVE TECHNICIAN SET THE SYSTEM SO THE CMBS COULD BE MANUALLY DEACTIVATED AGAIN AS WHEN VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO SHOP.

ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. AS I WAS TURNING THE WHEEL SEEMED TO LOCK AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WENT THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION I WAS TURNING AND I ALMOST SKIDDED OFF THE ROAD. MOST OF THE TIME ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M GETTING ON THE FREEWAY, IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE A LITTLE CONTROL OVER THE STEERING AND IT FEELS LOOSE. THE STEERING ALSO GIVES ME PROBLEMS WHEN I PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE I CAN'T ESTIMATE HOW MUCH I HAVE TO TURN THE WHEEL.

WE PURCHASED A 2018 HONDA CIVIC SPORT HATCHBACK IN LATE SPRING OF LAST YEAR. WHILE DRIVING IT IN SNOWY CONDITIONS, IT CONSISTENTLY COLLECTS SNOW AND ICE IN THE WHEEL WELLS TO THE POINT WHERE IT HAS ACTUALLY CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE INNER WHEEL WELL AND CAUSES CONSISTENT RUBBING AND BURNING SMELLS DUE TO THE ICE RUBBING AGAINST THE TIRE. THE RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIP (GARBER HONDA IN ROCHESTER) AND THE AUTO MANUFACTURER (AMERICAN HONDA FINANCE COMPANY) IS THAT THIS IS DUE TO 'OUTSIDE INFLUENCES' AND IS THEREFORE NOT COVERED BY THEM. THE ISSUE IN QUESTION IS REGARDING THE MATERIAL DESIGN AND THE INABILITY TO ACTUALLY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE IN INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS IN WESTERN NEW YORK. THE INNER WHEEL WELL IS MADE OF SOME TEXTURED, ALMOST 'CLOTH LIKE' MATERIAL THAT ALLOWS FOR SNOW AND ICE TO STICK AND BUILD UP VERY QUICKLY. AFTER DRIVING JUST A FEW MILES IN SNOWY CONDITION, WE NEED TO PULL OVER TO TRY AND KNOCK SOME OF THE SNOW OFF SO THAT IT DOESN'T RUB AGAINST THE TIRE. THE COLLECTION OF ICE AND NOW HAS ACTUALLY RIPPED OFF THE INNER WHEEL WELL ON ONE SIDE AND IS STARTING TO AFFECT THE OTHER SIDE. I FEEL THAT THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL ISSUE TO ANYONE DRIVING IN SNOW. WHILE DRIVING UNDER THESE CONDITION, MY CONCERN IS FOR THE DRIVERS OF THIS VEHICLE AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THE NEGATIVE WAY THAT IT AFFECTS THE HANDLING OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SOUGHT OUT ADVICE FROM BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA REGARDING ADDING DIFFERENT RIMS AND TIRES, BUT THEY HAVE COME BACK AND SAID THAT IT WOULD NOT AFFECT IT MUCH AND THAT IT WAS AN ENVIRONMENT ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THAT THEY HAVE MANY PEOPLE COMING IN WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND CHARGES THEM EACH AND EVERY TIME TO HAVE THIS RESOLVED. I DO HAVE A SMALL VIDEO THAT SHOWS EXACTLY WHAT THIS IS DOING TO THE VEHICLE. IS THERE A LOCATION WHERE I CAN UPLOAD THIS? I HAVE UPLOADED A PICTURE.

I'VE BEEN SMELLING GAS IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE ONLY DURING START UP AND ITS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. THE CAR IS PARKED IN A HEATED PARKING GARAGE WHEN THE SMELL OCCURS AND IT WILL ALSO HAPPEN OUTSIDE IN A PARKING LOT AFTER THE CAR SITS FOR A LITTLE BIT. YOU CAN ALSO SMELL A STRONG ODOR OF GAS WHEN YOU OPEN THE HOOD WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD.

AT 2025 MILES MY 2018 CIVICTHAT I HAD FOR 2ISH MONTHS STARTED SMELLING LIKE FUEL IN THE CAB. SO I LOOKED IT UP AND THE EARTH DREAMS MOTOR IS HAVING OIL DILUTION PROBLEMS AND IT IS BECOMING MORE COMMON. SO I CHECKED MY OIL AND FOUND MY CAR A QUART OVERFULL WITH FUEL IN MY OIL. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY GAVE IT A FREE OIL CHANGE AND SAID THAT THERE IS NO FIX ANDIT IS NORMAL. THE OIL VISCOSITY WILL DETERIORATE EVENTUAL LEAVING ME WITHA KNOCK OR DISABLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT IS AN ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE A CRASH OR SICKNESS WHEN THE NOXIOUS GAS SMELL COMES BACK. I HAVE NOW PUT 450 MILES ON IT SINCE THE OIL CHANGE AND AM SMELLING FUEL IN MY OIL AGAIN.
