The contact owns a 2006 Honda Element. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the passenger's side door air bag deployed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact and her mother heard a loud explosion, and the passenger's side door air bag deployed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed. There was no impact GTC system scanned -1 completed troubleshooting found no damage while SRS and air bag unit need to be replaced. The vehicle had previously been repaired, a year and a half prior to the failure under an unknown recall associated with the air bags. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,500.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ELEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD HIS VEHICLE SERVICED FOR AN AIR BAG RECALL AT AUTONATION HONDA CLEARWATER (17275 US HWY 19 N, CLEARWATER, FL 33764) UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V182000(AIR BAGS) . AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED, BUT TO NO AVAIL. AFTER THE FIFTH VISIT, THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DEFECT WAS DUE TO FAULTY AIR BAG WIRING. THE CONTACT WAS THEN GIVEN AN ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS OF APPROXIMATELY $1,000.00. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON IN MY 2006 HONDA ELEMENT. IT IS WELL KNOWN TO BE A FAULT IN THE DESIGN OF THE SEATBELT LATCH SENSOR. HONDA WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND WANTS TO CHARGE $$$$$ TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX. THIS DESIGN FLAW WILL CAUSE THE AIRBAGS TO NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. LIVES ARE AT RISK AND HONDA WON'T FIX IT.

DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WENT OFF, WHICH WE HAD FIXED ON A RECALL NOTICE YEARS BEFORE. HOWEVER THE DRIVER AIR BAG DID NOT GO OFF. MY DAUGHTER WENT FORWARD AND IT AFFECTED HER JAW. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THE DRIVER AIRBAG DID NOT EVEN GO OFF TO PROTECT HER. THE POLICE EVEN COMMENTED ON IT. HER CAR MAY BE UNFIXABLE WE WILL KNOW SOON. WE WANT TO REPORT THIS FOR OTHERS SAFETY.

HONDA ELEMENT (2006) HAS A POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE, DRIVER'S SIDE (FRONT LEFT). DIAGNOSED AS A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDOW REGULATOR CABLE. REPAIR EXPECTED TO BE AROUND $300 - $400 AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP ($500 PLUS AT THE DEALERSHIP). THIS SAME HONDA ELEMENT HAS A CRACKED WINDSHIELD THAT SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED WHILE DRIVING DOWN A TOLL ROAD WITH NO OTHER CARS WITHIN 20 CAR LENGTHS AND NO VISIBLE ROCKS OR OTHER OBJECTS IN THE ROADWAY. I NOTICED A HORIZONTAL CRACK IN MY HONDA ELEMENTS WINDSHIELD, ABOUT 7 INCHES IN LENGTH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, ABOUT HALFWAY UP STARTING AT THE RIGHT SIDE PILLAR. I TOOK IT TO THE GLASS PLACE AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT STOP IT FROM SPREADING. I THEN NOTICED THAT ANOTHER CRACK WAS STARTING ON THE LEFT SIDE HALF WAY UP. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT ROCKS DANGEROUSLY BACK AND FORTH. I ONLY WEIGH 108 POUNDS SO IT'S NOTHING I HAVE DONE TO CAUSE THIS. WHEN I LOOK ONLINE, THOUSANDS OF ELEMENT OWNERS HAVE THIS SAME COMPLAINT. IT IS PRETTY EXPENSIVE TO GET THE SEAT ASSEMBLY REPLACED. I HAVE DRIVEN HONDAS FOR 30 YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE. IT BEGAN A YEAR OR SO AGO AND HAS GOTTEN WORSE!

DRIVER'S SEAT IS ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS CONDITION DURING DRIVING AS IT MAY AFFECT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. SAFETY INSPECTOR ALSO SAYS THAT THE SEAT MAY COME LOOSE -- THEREFORE THAT VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTOR FAILED MY VEHICLE DURING ITS ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION. ALL OF THESE COMMON COMPLAINTS SHOULD BE SUBJECT OF A RECALL SINCE THE SEAT'S DESIGN WAS FAULTY. MY DRIVER SEAT HAS BEEN CRACKING AND IT IS LIKE THE SEAT COVER THAT IT WAS MADE OUT OF WAS DRY ROTTED. I HAVE TALK TO OTHER HONDA ELEMENT OWNERS AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME WITH THE DRIVER SEAT, OTHERS WITH THE OTHER SEAT. Honda Canada recognized the safety risks from salt damage to the frames and rear suspension of Honda Elements and recalled all years of the Element for warranty repairs, or if the damage was too severe, buy back of the vehicles. Yet they have not in the USA in rust belt states where salt damage is prevalent. As you will note from the attached photos, severe injury or death could occur in a major collision, which falls into the scope of your agency. All Elements in areas where corrosive salty and liquid brine is used are at risk, posing a significant safety hazard. Contacting local Honda dealers confirm the absence of a recall for this issue which puts motorists in this country at risk.

left rear rear trailing arm rusted out. had car checked due to rough ride & was informed said part so rusted it was dangerous to drive. damage so severe repair not feasible. appears this is a problem with elements & some crvs. canada apparently has a recall for this, & US should, too.

Rusting rear suspension is safety issue. Elements were already recalled in Canada but not yet in USA since not enough complaints were issued. The Element is based on the CRV which already does have a recall in USA for this issue

I live in Minnesota and my Elements rear trailing arms are badly rusted. There is a recall for the same issue in Canada but not in the US. This is my 2006 Honda Element with 96k miles. I would love to be able to get another at least 100k miles if not lots more. These cars can go to 400k if maintained well.

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Element. The contact stated that while HIS son was driving approximately 55 MPH, the driver heard a loud clunking sound, and the rear of the vehicle suddenly became unstable. The driver stopped and inspected the vehicle, and it was discovered that the driver’s side rear wheel was turned outward, and the rear driver’s side trailing arm had detached from the frame of the vehicle due to severe rust. The vehicle was later towed to a welding shop. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 123,000.

VEHICLE SUSTAINED MULTIPLE DENTS THROUGHOUT THE ROOF AND HOOD FROM "SIMPLE" ACORNS FALLING FROM A TREE. DAMAGE IS UNACCEPTABLE AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD BY HONDA MOTOR CORP. THAT I "SHOULDN'T" PARK UNDER TREES THAT DAMAGE MY CAR. THE CAR PARKED NEXT TO MINE SUSTAINED "NO" DAMAGE. NO OTHER CARS SEEM TO SUSTAIN THIS KIND OF DAMAGE. APPARENTLY, THIS FAILURE IS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 11V395000 / HONDA'S RECALL CAMPAIGN # R89. I HAD THIS RECALL PERFORMED LAST FRIDAY BY AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER. BEFORE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED, THERE WAS A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WHILE SHIFTING FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND GEAR. AFTER THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED, THE KNOCKING SOUND DISAPPEARED, BUT THE TRANSMISSION STILL SLIPS BETWEEN 1ST SHIFT TO 2ND SHIFT. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS FAILURE IS DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION MENTIONED IN THIS RECALL. I EXPECT HONDA TAKE IN CONSIDERATION MY VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINT AND HAVE A POSITIVE RESPONSE FROM HONDA. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE TRANSMISSION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE IS SUBMITTING A COMPLAINT AGAINST HONDA, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT PROVIDE A REASONABLE EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE SAME MODULE SOFTWARE DESCRIBED IN RECALL 11V395000. IN NOVEMBER 2009, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO CHECK A RATTLE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE. THE DEALER FOUND A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION CARRIER BEARING AND QUOTED A PRICE OF $3,300. AFTER COMPLAINING, HONDA AGREED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY THE LABOR. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED HONDA IN OCTOBER 2011 BECAUSE HE DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL LETTER. HONDA STATED HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. 2006 HONDA ELEMENT APPROX 114,000 MILES. VEHICLE LOW BEAMS BOTH STOP WORKING SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS INCREASING LIKELIHOOD OF CRASH. THIS IS RECURRENT ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND OTHER HONDA MODELS INCLUDING PILOT AND FIT. ISSUE RELATES TO BURNING CONTACT IN WIRING HARNESS. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING/ DESIGN THAT PUTS DRIVERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS AT RISK OF ACCIDENT.

THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FAILED SUDDENLY, PREVENTING ANY USE OF THE VEHICLE. THE WAFERS (EQUIVALENT TO PINS ON TUMBLER LOCKS) WORE AWAY SUCH THAT THE KEY NO LONGER WORKED IN THE LOCK. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SUCH THAT TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IS IMPOSSIBLE, AND STRANDS THE DRIVER AND ALL PASSENGERS WHEREVER THE CAR IS AT THE TIME. WHEN THE PART FAILED, THE VEHICLE WAS STALLED ON A ROADWAY WHERE SPEEDS REGULARLY EXCEED 30 MPH AND I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO MOVE THE CAR OUT OF DANGER. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO UNLOCK WITHOUT TURNING THE KEY IN THE LOCK CYLINDER. THE CAR REMAINED IN THE ROAD FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR UNTIL PERMISSION WAS SECURED TO TURN THE CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHERE THE WHEELS TURNING LEAD INTO, REQUIRING PUSHING THE CAR THROUGH TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC. ONCE IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT TOOK AN ADDITIONAL HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK TO COME (WE WERE LUCKY THE DRIVEWAY EXISTED AT THAT LOCATION!). AFTER TOWING EXPENSES, DEALERSHIP QUOTED REPAIRS AT AROUND $800 FOR JUST REPAIRING THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER, AND ADDITIONAL EXPENSES FOR REPLACING ALL THE LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE SO THAT ONE KEY WOULD WORK ON ALL LOCKS ON THE CAR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE 1) THE FAILURE PREVENTS USE, OR EVEN CONTROLLED MOVEMENT OF THE CAR BEING PUSHED (THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS, AND WON'T UNLOCK WITHOUT THE KEY TURNING IN THE LOCK CYLINDER) IN WHATEVER SITUATION THE CAR IS IN, WHETHER STALLED ON A ROADWAY OR PARKED, 2) THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE PRESCRIBED TO PREVENT THIS ISSUE, 3) BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN OF THE KEY/LOCK COMBINATION, THIS ISSUE WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY TO ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS TYPE OF LOCK (SIDEWINDER KEY), 4) THERE IS LITTLE TO NO INDICATION OF IMMINENT FAILURE.

I got into my Element. I closed the driver side door. I heard a loud pop and heard the back right corner window shatter and break. It’s the window in the cargo area.Waiting for the insurance adjuster to look at it.

AFTER I HAD MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER COMPLETE THE AIR BAG RECALL FOR THE SECOND, MY CRUSE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING AND MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF MY AIR BAG AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM. I PAID FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSIS, THEY SAID IT WAS THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ON THE DRIVERS SEAT AND THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $350 AND THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD COST $810 TO FIX THE CRUSE CONTROL. I DID NOT PAY THEM FOR THE REPAIR. THEY "RESET" THE LIGHT, BUT ADVISED THAT IT WOULD PROBABLY COME BACK ON. THEY STATED THAT WHILE THE LIGHT WAS ON THAT MY SRS SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK. SO NOW I HAVE A CAR I LOVE, BUT AM AFRAID TO DRIVE. SEEMS FUNNY THAT THE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON BEFORE I LET THE DEALER TOUCH MY CAR.

REMOVAL OF THE IGNITION KEY WHEN THE GEAR SELECTOR OF A VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS NOT BEEN SHIFTED TO THE PARK POSITION CAN ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IS THAT MY CAR ROLLED WHILE I WAS EXITING THE VEHICLE A FEW TIMES BEFORE I FIGURED OUT I WAS LEAVING THE CAR IN DRIVE WHILE EXITING BECAUSE I LEAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE UNTIL I JUMP OUT. THIS WAS SCARY AND NEARLY DISASTROUS, BECAUSE WITH THE CAR ROLLING BACKWARD, IT IS A DUKES OF HAZARD MOVE TO JUMP BACK IN THE CAR WHILE GETTING IMPACTED BY THE DOOR, THEN LAUNCHING INTO THE SEAT AND HITTING THE FOOT PEDAL BRAKE. IT IS A FRIGHTENING HAZARD, BUT THE $800-1K TO FIX IS A BARRIER TO MANY PEOPLE. I CHOOSE TO ALWAYS USE THE PARKING BREAK INSTEAD OF PAY THAT MUCH. I FIND THIS A FRIGHTENING PROBLEM THAT IS AN ABSOLUTE SAFETY ISSUE HONDA KNOWS ABOUT AND SHOULD FIX.

These cars have severe issues with their frames and they rot. There are TONS of recalls in Canada and I am wondering why the same recalls are not in the US - this is equally dangerous regardless of location - especially upstate NY where the climate is extremely similar to Canada. I have had TWO LIFE THREATENING INCIDENTS recently - one with the front axel completely breaking several months ago, and yesterday when the frame and rear axel fell apart. Fortunately both times, I was barely moving or I would likely not be here to be typing this. My frame is so rusted, it is disintegrating and beyond repair. I was advised by my local Sheriff to check on the recalls in Canada and there are so many, basically the whole frame is recalled - I am writing to report that I am in several Honda Element groups here in the US, and there are hundreds of life threatening posts in these groups regularly. This should absolutely be addressed. It is clearly a problem. As you can see in my attachments, otherwise the vehicle is in amazing condition. This is really devastating - and I have a vehicle that I cannot sell or trade-in. There is no value whatsoever and it is beyond repair.

I AM LOCATED IN OHIO AND THE REAR TRAILING ARM HAS RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT THAT IT IS ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING OFF ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS WAS FOUND OUT BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR WOULD SWAY BACK AND FORTH IN THE REAR EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. I WENT TO MY NEAREST TIRE SHOP THINKING IT COULD BE A WHEEL ALIGNMENT ISSUE AND THEY BROUGHT ME TO THE BACK AND SHOWED ME THE ISSUE. IT IS BEING HELD BY ABOUT 4-5 INCHES OF THE FRAME. THEY ADVISED ME TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AS IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE HOME. I HAVE SINCE NOT BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND HAVE IT PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I'M AWARE THAT THIS IS A RECALL BY HONDA IN CANADA WHICH IS A NEIGHBORING BORDER TO MY STATE AND A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH A LOT OF US NORTHERN STATES IN THE U.S. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT CAN BE DONE AS I LOVE THIS VEHICLE BUT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD.

The check engine light indicated a "gas cap" code, and the "side airbag off" light was illuminated. Upon diagnosis, the technician identified significant rust and cracked transmission components, resulting in fluid leakage. The service department assessed the vehicle as unsafe for operation, waived the diagnostic fees, and replenished the transmission fluid to prevent the risk of being stranded due to a lack of fluid on the return trip. Honda Service Department took the attached photos and documented the vehicle's safety violations.

The part in my car that has failed twice is the right front seat belt buckle. I was alerted to this problem in June of 2020, when my SRS light lit up. I took the car to AutoNation Honda 104 in Westminster, Co., 80234, on 6/2/20 after learning about Honda's previously documented SRS and seat belt issues. The code that led to the SRS light going on was 22-1, indicating "open or increased resistance in the right buckle tensioner." The part was replaced at that time and the SRS light remained off after the repair. However, in July of 2023, the SRS light went on again. I took it to the same dealership on 7/20/23. I was informed that the same code occurred, and that the part would be replaced again under warranty. However, it was not available due to supply issues. Both times this problem has occurred, I was informed by Honda personnel that the seat belt system might not perform as designed in a crash, creating increased risk of death or injury for a passenger in that seat. I was advised to avoid having passengers ride in that seat. At the 7/20/23 appointment I was informed that the estimated time of arrival (ETA) for this part was 9/2/23. On 9/21/23 I called USA Honda for an update since I had not heard anything from them. I was informed that the ETA was now unknown, and that they would provide me with regular updates via email. However, all subsequent emails indicated an unknown ETA. On 1/10/24 I again contacted contacted USA Honda by phone to ask for an update. I was informed that there is now a "possible" ETA of 5/20/24. Thus the earliest I might get my car fixed is 10 months from when the problem started, if then. Honda has said that the delay is due to problems with the part manufacturer, but has refused to give me information about how to reach this manufacturer. The delay in honoring their warranty, for any reason, amounts to negligence that could lead to death or injury of a passenger, and results in me not being able to use the car as designed.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT COMBINATION SWITCH WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HER HEADLIGHTS AS NOTED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED DUE TO THE VERY LOW FAILURE RATE IN THE ELEMENTS, THEY WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM CREATES OVERHEATING ON THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR AND UNEXPECTED LOSS OF LOW BEAM FUNCTIONALITY, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

THE SUN VISOR MOUNT HAS LOOSENED UP OVER THE LAST YEAR OR SO. TODAY, I PULLED DOWN THE SUN VISOR TO BLOCK THE SUN AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THE ENTIRE THING FELL ON MY FACE WHILE I WAS DRIVING, TEMPORARILY BLOCKING MY VISION. 2006 HONDA ELEMENT PROBLEMS: I BOUGHT THIS HONDA BECAUSE OF THE REPUTATION FOR A SOLID CAR WITH VERY LITTLE MAINTENANCE ISSUES. THIS CAR HAS HAD MORE MAINTENANCE ISSUES THAN ANY OTHER I'VE EVER OWNED! *TT 1. DRIVER'S SEAT ROCK. THE SEAT HAS ROCKED LEFT TO RIGHT SINCE ABOUT 30,000 MILES. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY $300 TO FIX A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA OBVIOUSLY KNOWS ABOUT. 2. AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING-THAT WAS A $700+ REPAIR FOR A NEW FAN MOTOR . 3. I HAVE GONE THROUGH ABOUT 5 WINDSHIELDS IN 90,000 MILES. GOOD THING I ALWAYS GET ZERO DEDUCTIBLE GLASS COVERAGE! THE LAST WASN'T EVEN DUE TO A CRACK, BUT BECAUSE IT BECAME SO PITTED IT WAS IMPAIRING VISIBILITY. 4. THIS VEHICLE HAS A HUGE BLIND SPOT IN THE DRIVER'S LEFT CORNER. I HAVE HAD COUNTLESS NEAR MISSES-ESPECIALLY PEDESTRIANS IN PARKING LOTS. THE BLIND SPOT IS LARGE ENOUGH TO BLOCK VISION COMPLETELY. *TT

DROVE CAR ON A 6 HR TRIP WITH ONE STOP FOR GAS DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS THEREFORE THERE WAS NO NEED TO TURN HEADLIGHTS ON. WHEN REACHING DESTINATION, HEADLIGHTS HAD TURNED ON BY THEMSELVES ALTHOUGH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON THE STEERING COLUMN REMAINED IN THE 'OFF' POSITION AND WAS NEVER TURNED ON BY THE DRIVER THAT DAY. CAR HEADLIGHT WARNING WOULD NOT SOUND WHEN CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND DOOR OPEN EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHTS REMAINED ON. REMOVED HEADLIGHT FUSE THAT NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY, INSERTED FUSE AND HEADLIGHTS WERE STILL ON. TOOK TO HONDA DEALERSHIP WHO REPLACED HEADLIGHT RELAY BUT THAT SAME DAY HEADLIGHTS CONTINUED TO TURN ON BY THEMSELVES WHILE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. DEALERSHIP REPLACED ENTIRE FUSE BOX TO FIX THE PROBLEM. LESS THAN ONE WEEK LATER, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL NOT GO OVER3,000 RPM. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THAT THE VTECH SENSOR FOR OIL PRESSURE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN AUG 2006 SO ONLY HAS BEEN DRIVEN BY ONE OWNER FOR 4 YEARS WITH DEALER RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. *TR

I NOTICED THAT THE SIDE DOORS LATCH ALONG THE RUNNING BOARD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2006 HONDA ELEMENT HAD COME LOOSE. THE TWO SIZABLE BOLTS THAT SHOULD SECURE THE LATCH TO THE VEHICLE BODY FLOAT FREELY WHEN THE LATCH CAN BE MOVED BY HAND. VISUALLY, THE ONLY THING THAT SEEMS TO BE KEEPING THE LATCH FROM FALLING ONTO THE STREET IS THE BLACK PLASTIC INTERIOR STRIPS THAT OVERLAP THE FLANGE OF THE LATCH. LOOKS TO ME THAT IF THAT LATCH COMES FREE FROM THE VEHICLE THEN BOTH DOORS COULD POTENTIALLY SWING OPEN CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE 2006 HONDA ELEMENT WITH 4458 FAILURE MILEAGE AT 20 MPH,\ THE VEHICLE FELT UNSTABLE. THE CONTACT PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND EXAMINED THE TIRE, AND FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DEFLATED. THE CONTACT TRIED TO PUT THE AIR BACK INTO THE TIRE, AND THE AIR CONTINUED TO COME OUT OF THE TIRE. DRIVER RAN INTO STOPPED CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. SPEED WAS SUFFICIENT TO FLATTEN THE CAR UP TO THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE - LITTLE DAMAGE BEHIND THAT. CAR IS 2006 HONDA ELEMENT. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. SAFETY BELT DID NOT LOCK UP QUICKLY - DRIVER STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL, AND CHEST WAS BRUISED BY TOP OF STEERING WHEEL. PASSENGER SEAT MOVED TO THE FULL FORWARD POSITION, ALMOST TOUCHING THE DASHBOARD. NO SIGNIFICANT INJURIES RESULTED, BUT SAFETY SYSTEMS DID NOT WORK AS EXPECTED.

THE SERVICE DEALER RECOMMENDED TINTING ADDED TO THE FRONT SIDE WINDOWS AND THE TOP FEW INCHES OF THE WINDSHIELD. LED LIGHTS WERE INSTALLED INTO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE VISIBILITY WAS STILL POOR AND TOOK ATTENTION FROM THE ROAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
