ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
28 complaints
Vehicle experienced critical ignition system failure while parked - the engine would not turn off despite repeated attempts over 20 minutes. The vehicle has a communication failure between the ignition switch and the Body Control Module/Keyless Access Unit, creating a stuck electronic latch circuit (B12D3 latch error). This is consistent with Honda TSB 20-116. The keyless start system warning appeared on the dashboard. Unable to shut down the vehicle through normal means, I was forced to manually pull the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box and then disconnect the battery while the engine was still running. This created an extremely dangerous situation requiring me to work in the engine compartment with live electrical systems. The vehicle lacks proper failsafe shutdown mechanisms. This communication failure and stuck ignition circuit poses serious safety risks including fire hazard, carbon monoxide poisoning if in enclosed space, and electrical system damage. No officially stated emergency stop solutions had worked for this vehicle included the triple press and long press.

The electrical component on the dash that shows the gas gauge does not work during cold weather or rain mostly. I have looked this up online and many people have the same complaint.

On random occasions (usually in damp or humid weather) the odometer and fuel gauge will black out. This has happened several times. It will revert to normal operation later
Aug 09, 2025
I’m writing to express my concern regarding a recurring issue with the instrument cluster on my 2019 Honda HR-V. Specifically, the far-right section of the cluster — which includes the odometer and fuel gauge — frequently flickers or fails to display entirely. This makes it extremely difficult to monitor fuel levels or mileage, and I’m particularly concerned that the odometer may not be accurately recording the vehicle’s true mileage. After researching this issue, I’ve found that this is a well-documented problem among HR-V owners, with many attributing the failure to cracked solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board. These cracks are believed to result from thermal expansion and contraction, exacerbated by the use of lead-free solder, which is more brittle than traditional alternatives. Given that this issue stems from a design and manufacturing decision — not from any misuse or neglect on my part — I feel strongly that this should be addressed as a manufacturer defect.
Apr 24, 2025
The entire odometer and fuel display on the right flickers with random characters and goes dark for long periods of time. Not knowing how much fuel seems to be a problem? Took it to the dealer and they indicated this is a common problem but have no remedies.

*Multi-use camera for safety fails Honda HRV 2019 due to overheating and or other malfunctioning reasons. Known failure, but Honda refuses to recall the cameras. Causes lights on light up LKAS, Collision Mitigation, Road Departure, Adaptive Cruise, Auto High-Beam. (Of course battery checked first, but battery in good condition) Firestone and Christian Automotive Brothers diagnosed nothing wrong with car apart from camera. Honda refuses to accept 3rd party diagnostic report. Honda refuses to inspect known defect without price gouging customer upwards of $2K. Right Honda of Scottsdale AZ refuses to reset/recalibrate and insists on all customers with this known issue pay $200 diagnostic PLUS new part $1,232.15 + tax (part 36160-T7A-A04) PLUS labor in excess of $1,000. No warning, etc prior to the lights going on associated with defective camera. This is unethical car sales, price gouging for defective safety feature, and puts driver and others at risk. This is a safety feature of the car and Honda's respsonbility to recall and resolve at no expense to customers. Please formally open an investigation to inform me swiftly if this $2K + malfunctioning safety feature will be recalled and resolved. Thank you. I have major peeling paint issues on my 2019 Honda HR-V with white paint. The top of the car ( roof) and in the hatch area.

The gauge cluster sometimes fails to work at all and flashes multiple times when returning to normal. I cannot see speed, mileage, fuel level, oil life, or car temperature. It is a continuing issue.

Transmission fill cap plug keeps blowing out and leaves open hole into transmission for rain, debris and another road debris to enter into transmission. My car has 80k miles and has been happening every 5-10k miles resulting in having to buy new transmission fill cap and have a transmission flush almost as often as needing to change the oil
Feb 11, 2025
I have had an issue with my 2019 Honda HRV Sport. Black display on the odometer/fuel/oil gauge at start up, then went to gibberish then to display as normal once the car warmed up. Sometimes it would flash or not come back at all. I live in the Northeast and it started when temperatures started getting cooler. This is the first year. Dealer (Keeler Honda) says they have heard of this and wanted to charge me $1800 to replace it. They said they’ve heard of it happening in the HRV and the Fit. It’s dangerous when you can’t see how much gas you have. Also wondering if accurate mileage is being calculated.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Component/System that failed: Fuel mileage range display began fluctuating erratically after a fuel pump recall repair on [XXX], at Open Road Honda, Edison, NJ. Is it available for inspection? Yes. How safety was put at risk: The fuel range display jumps unpredictably (30+ miles up or down), especially after refueling. This causes a driving distraction by pulling my focus from the road. Has the problem been confirmed by a dealer or service center? Open Road Honda confirmed the issue, stating the system lost 63,000 miles of driving data during recall repair and won’t stabilize until 100,000 miles are driven. A second Honda dealer said this is not normal and recommended diagnostics. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer or others? Yes. Inspected multiple times by Open Road Honda and reviewed by their District Parts & Service Manager (DPSM) from American Honda, who called it a “normal characteristic” post-recall. Honda Corporate opened a case but found the explanation unreasonable. Warning lamps or messages: None. When symptoms first appeared: Days after the recall repair in February 2025. Summary: I provided photo/video evidence and returned multiple times for service, but the issue remains unresolved. The head mechanic told me to “just not look at the mileage range.” The problem began after the recall and continues, causing distraction. I request investigation and a proper fix to restore the vehicle’s original condition. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I received several recall notices for the fuel pump impeller. I understand that there are no parts available to fix the vehicles’s faulty issue. However, all notices indicate a safety risk of crash or injury. I just received another notice and I can see that this recall was first reported in December of 2023. I feel that I am at risk, based on the information provided on the recall notices. Is there a limitation on the amount of time that it takes The dealership to make the necessary repairs? One year seems excessive, when a safety issue has been identified.

I was told about a recall on my car back in May. I was told the part would be available in the Fall. I just called and the fuel pump part is still not available with no date in sight. My car is definitely feeling the affects. Not sure why this part is taking forever to come in. Recalls are serious.

A recall was issued in 2023 for a problem with the fuel pump which can cause a serious accident in the event of a failure. I've received two notices for the recall, however the dealer where I purchased the vehicle has not yet been able to obtain the parts from the manufacturer. I'm very concerned because of the potential consequences of failure of the fuel pump and would like to have the recall remedied as soon as possible.

The digital instrument cluster in this 2019 Honda HR-V suddenly failed, resulting in the loss of the speedometer, odometer, and dashboard display functions. The failure occurred without warning and is not due to wear, misuse, or routine maintenance. Operating the vehicle without a functioning speedometer or odometer presents a serious safety risk, including potential speeding, traffic violations, and accidents. Other warning indicators integrated into the digital display may also be inaccessible, further compounding the safety hazard. Honda has diagnosed the problem and quoted a repair cost of $2,166.08. Goodwill assistance was previously denied in my case, citing that the vehicle is out of warranty and not subject to a recall. The vehicle is regularly used to transport family members, including a pregnant passenger (due March 2026). Continued operation in this condition is unsafe and unacceptable. 8/9/24 was the first time we noticed the gas/mileage gauge disappearing. It would do this almost everyday for no apparent reason leaving the driver (usually my teenage daughters) not knowing how much gas they had left. This particular disappearance happens on a regular basis which is quite concerning not knowing how much gas you have left. Also on 8/23/24 a light came on that said check fuel cap along with the yellow check engine light, yellow parking brake and flashing park symbol. These lights stayed on minus the fuel cap light for about 3 weeks. They have disappeared with now with only the issue of the disappearing fuel/mileage gauge remaining an off/on issue (but as stated above usually on a daily basis.) We replaced the fuels cap in case there was an issue and also took it to a Honda dealership on 9/27/24. They didn't check diagnostics as the other icons had turned off, but the gas gauge was still missing. They said it wouldn't show codes since the icons were missing. I also called the Honda corporation regarding this safety issue as there are multiple reports of this happening to others on several Honda forums with Honda HRV ranging from 2016-2020. It usually happens in this manner with the fuel gauge disappearing first then other icons coming off/on.

Failure of my Odometer/fuel gauge/ outdoor temp. This dial seems to go blank/black screen! This seems to happen in colder & wet weather. This could be a real SAFETY issue if my car ran out of gas on a 4 lane highway due to not being able to see fuel gauge! Also NOT being able to track mileage for oil changes or mileage for replacing tires! I am willing for NTSB or Honda to inspect my car!

The instrument cluster "flickers" due to a bad connection. This cluster contains the odometer, fuel gauge, and other vehicle information. It does not work at all when the outdoor temperature is cold. I took this to my Honda dealer and they state it was a bad connection and I would have to pay to replace the whole cluster for $1800. This is unacceptable and Honda should have to fix this as it is a known problem - this has the potential to cause an accident for someone to run out of gas in busy traffic. And not being able to see the odometer/mileage or oil life indicator is not acceptable. This has been a life of the car problem which has gotten worse and is no longer working no matter the outside temperature.

Odometer display issue-I’m having an issue where the odometer/trip/fuel display is dark when I start the car and then it will flicker on and off.

Vehicle fuel gauge intermittently operates to the point where the fuel gauge goes completely blank, the issue worsens with the onset of cold weather. Dealer will not repair as a defect and estimated a 1500.00 repair price. This condition can become especially dangerous when operator unable to ascertain fuel level, especially on high speed roadways where vehicle can become disabled due to low fuel levels and vulnerable to being struck by other vehicles. A web based search reveals this is a common customer complaint for this vehicle.

The car does not have pickup when attempting to accelerate. Driver must drop the gear down to try and force acceleration. Vehicle was taken to dealership and dealer wanted to charge to diagnose the problem. When it was stated that symptoms mimic those outlined in recall, dealer stated they still need to diagnose to see if the repair is needed. After checking dealer claims debris was blocking the pedal and the problem is not related to recall. However, the pedal was clear of any debris and still drives with loss of power when trying to accelerate.

The fuel gauge went blank. I started my car and the screen was black. I had to restart the car and press the button that shows the oil life to get the gauge to come back on. This is a new problem and I have not scheduled service yet. The car also lurches forward sometime when I put my foot on the gas pedal. It jumps like I have pressed the pedal hard. The car also bucks when I am driving. It happens when I am going between 30-40 mph. I told the technician about the problem and he said I am the first person to complain about it.

My 2019 Honda HR-v CVT failed due to premature belt deterioration exactly as described in Honda Service Bulletin 21-047. Transmission needs to be replaced, I was driving on the highway then pulled off to exit, when I got to the end of the exit ramp the car crunched and clunked when I tried to step on the gas. I rolled into a parking lot across the street. Had it happened a minute earlier I would have crashed on the highway due to the transmission failure. Honda service says it’s metal shavings in the transmission. It’s related to the recent software issue but because my car is over the extended warranty of 7 years or 150,000 miles they do t want to cover the cost, or help me with getting into a new car. I still owe over $6,000 on it.

WHILE OPERATING AN UNMODIFIED 2019 AWD HONDA HRV PER THE INCLUDED OWNER'S GUIDE (PAGE 86), THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS REQUIRED DURING 100% OF A 15 MILE DESCENT TO MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE"S SPEED WITHIN THE POSTED 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT. THE ENGINE BRAKING PROMISED, IN THE "L" GEAR SELECTOR, BY HONDA'S OWNER'S GUIDE WAS LACKING. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN VERBALLY BROUGHT BEFORE THE DISTRIBUTOR, IN ADDITION TO BEING FORMALLY LISTED AS A COMPLAINT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THIS VEHICLE, TO WHICH I AM CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED TO OWN FOR 36 MONTHS, HAS SIGNIFICANTLY LESS ENGINE BRAKING CAPACITY THAN THE PRECEDENT SET BY DECADES OF LIKE VEHICLES WHICH HAVE BEEN RELEASED TO CONSUMERS WITH ENGINE BRAKING ADEQUATE FOR SAFE MOUNTAIN DRIVING. MY OWN OPINION MAY BE IRRELEVANT IN MOTIVATING A MOTOR COMPANY TO IMPROVE OR REPAIR THEIR PRODUCT, BUT I REFER TO THE IDAHO CDL MANUAL AS AN AUTHORITY ON SAFE PRACTICES AND EQUIPMENT FOR MOUNTAIN DRIVING. PLEASE REFER TO THE IDAHO CDL MANUAL, SECTION 2.6.6 SPEED ON DOWNGRADES "YOU MUST USE THE BRAKING EFFECT OF THE ENGINE AS THE PRINCIPAL WAY OF CONTROLLING YOUR SPEED ON DOWNGRADES. " AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, THE ENGINE BRAKING PROVIDED WITH THE 2019 HONDA HRV IS NOT ADEQUATE AS A PRINCIPAL WAY OF CONTROLLING SPEED ON DOWNGRADES. I WOULD GUESS THAT THIS PROBLEM MAY BE RELATED TO A LACK OF PROPER TUNING IN THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) REGARDING SHIFTING SET POINTS. THIS PRESUMPTION IS BASED UPON THE ADDED ELECTRICAL SHIFTING CONTROL EQUIPMENT FEATURED ON A PREMIUM MODEL, WITH A MECHANICALLY SIMILAR TRANSMISSION. THERE WAS NO DISCLAIMER PRESENTED REGARDING ENGINE BRAKING OR MOUNTAIN DRIVING BEFORE, DURING, OR SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER HAS LITTLE OR NO INDICATION THAT THIS WOULD BE A PROBLEM DURING AN URBAN TEST DRIVE.

The honda dealer diagnosis the multi-purpose camera failed. Car has low miles, and should not have failed this soon, and also creates dangers for the driver, the dashboard lights all these warning, quite concerning. Cost was also extremely expensive, over $2k to repair.

Around July 2024 my 2019 HRV began displaying warnings regarding the Honda sensing camera and the features associated with it. After spending my own time and money diagnosing the issue, the dealership explained the Honda sensing camera is malfunctioning. Without any further explanation they expected me to pay almost $2,000 to fix it. Now my car will not pass inspection unless I pay out of pocket to fix the malfunctioning camera despite the lack of reasoning. This feature should be removed from Honda vehicles if it is going to malfunction for no reason.

The car failed inspection due to rust which had formed at the attachment points where the body is bolted to the chassis. The importance of this location made this rust a severe safety risk. The problem existed on both left and right sides of the vehicle. The fact that water was channeled to these locations with no opportunity for drainage or rust protection is a clear design flaw. The vehicle had only 46,000 miles. Every repair shop I took the car to said "such a young vehicle should not be rusting like this". They all suggested that Honda should be responsible to fix this because the car was poorly designed.

The paint on the roof of my Honda HR-V is chipping and peeling. The problem appeared suddenly and has continued to spread. The rest of the vehicle’s paint remains intact, so this seems to be a defect in the roof paint or clear coat. While it does not trigger warning lights, the exposed areas put the vehicle at risk of rust and corrosion, which may affect safety and durability over time. The damage is visible and the roof is available for inspection upon request.

I am writing to request your assistance regarding a paint peeling issue that has developed on my 2019 Honda HR-V (currently at 50,320 miles). Recently, I noticed significant paint peeling at the top of the hood — in the exact same area previously identified in the 2016–2018 HR-V models covered under Honda’s paint warranty extension. When I contacted Honda Cares, I was informed that my VIN is not included in that warranty extension. This is very disappointing because I made a conscious effort to protect my vehicle by purchasing the clear coat warranty at the time of sale, believing it would cover or help prevent defects like this. Unfortunately, I was told that this issue is also not covered under that protection. This situation is particularly difficult for me, as I just finished paying off my car last month and am preparing to retire this year. My plan was for this HR-V to be my retirement vehicle, and facing an unexpected repair so soon is a financial hardship I did not anticipate. Furthermore, I am aware of the lawsuit filed with the NHTSA concerning paint defects on Honda vehicles. Given that my paint is peeling in the same area identified in that investigation and covered under the prior warranty extension, I respectfully request that Honda extend that same paint warranty coverage to my vehicle as a gesture of goodwill and fairness. I chose Honda for its reputation for reliability and quality, and until now, I have been very pleased with my HR-V. I hope you will consider my circumstances and the documented history of this paint defect, and help me resolve this issue so I can continue to enjoy my vehicle into retirement. Thank you very much for your time and understanding. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR A FEW WEEKS AND I WAS DRIVING UP A BRIDGE WHEN TRAFFIC CAME TO A SCREETCHING STOP. I SLAMMED ON MY BREAKS AND MY HR-V DID NOT SLOW DOWN AS IT SHOULD HAVE. I HAD A 2018 HONDA CIVIC FOR 3 YEARS BEFORE THIS AND THEY DRIVE IN A SIMILAR WAY. I ALSO HAVE DRIVEN OLD, HUGE, HEAVY TRUCKS AND SUVS FOR YEARS. I'VE EVEN DRIVEN ON ICE AND I LIVED IN ONE OF THE SNOWIEST PLACES ON EARTH (LITERALLY) AND HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE NOT STOP IN THIS WAY... I AM REALLY CONCERNED AND I GOT INTO MY FIRST ACCIDENT, EVER. AFTER HAVING THIS VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN 3 WEEKS.

Twice I was interstate speed driving and lost speed the first time I thought it was the fuel system. The car was towed to the dealership and after they " checked it out" , they told me all they found was a weak battery. The second time was a few days ago but this time, I was revving the engine as I was trying to get my car off the interstate. Thank goodness there was very little traffic. This time however, it restarted and I drove the rest of the way home.

The Honda Sensing camera in my Honda 2019 HRV malfunctioned while driving and no longer gives me the safety features of Honda Sensing. The camera does not hold a long life span it seems and Honda is not willing to help with the replacement. I think it is unfair and unsafe to allow customers to operate and use a car where the safety features will just out of nowhere disengage risking my life and my families life. The vehicle was brought into the dealership and the cost for replacement is incredibly large.

Faulty front camera sensor resulted in all ADAS systems to not work. (Auto braking, auto high beams, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control). Forums have shown that this is an issue across platforms of the HRV, and happens at different mileage of vehicle. Mine happened at around 70k miles. Repair is $1800-$2500.
Dec 09, 2024
The road assist / warning systems on dashboard malfunctioned, suddenly turning on and off, all at once. This caused A safety risk, by a startling distraction while driving, and worrisome stress while the car was at rest. The the problem was reproduced or confirmed by a dealer service rep who stated the car was unsafe to drive. They witnessed all warning lights, messages flashing on and off. This malfunction occurred, June 19-20, 2024. In retrospect, the break warning light would flash on for no reason and slightly break, or engine would stall or lose velocity while driving. The car is currently being serviced by the dealership. Their assessment is the front camera needs replaced. This car is under the warranty for mileage (not driven much during the pandemic), but due to the year, it is outside of warrenty. Obviously, the cause is not wear and tear, but a faulty camera. This is concerning, given the safety issue , should this be cause for a recall and repairs, including replacement part and services, the responsibility of the Honda company and not the car owner/driver.

The Multipurpose camera that controls all advanced driver assistance fuctions malfunctions causing these systems to intermittenently not work properly or at all. It has caused the vehicle to fail to brake, and brake on its own without cause. Upon doing my own research I found numerous reports online of other owners of this make/model having the same issue. The problem first occured when my vehicle reached about 50,000 miles. It has been ongoing since. It caused damage to my vehicle when the automatic collision assist failed to brake for a vehicle that stopped abruptly in front of me. The alerts that these systems are not working do not always show up when the vehicle starts. Sometimes they stop working in the middle of the route. I have been in correspondence with the dealership who informed me the cost to fix this issue is $1968 (this does not include the $150 diagnostic fee while the vehicle was being serviced for a recall related to the fuel pump - I already paid to the dealer that fee and for which I've attached my receipt.) There is clearly some issue with the part that was installed by the manufacturer. It makes the vehicle unsafe to drive not knowing if these systems will fail or malfunction at any given moment. I do not feel as the customer this should be my responsibility to have repaired, as many others report the same issue with this part. There is clearly a widespread issue that needs to be addressed in a recall in order to replace the faulty part.

Steering become stiff and sticky while driving it was sudden and I was unable to turn the steering wheel specifically to the left. The other driver stopped short so an accident was avoided. Brought the car for service and was told there is a gearbox issue with swelling causing stiff/sticky steering and the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. It is the same issue that newer model Honda HRVs have been recalled for. It is a serious safety issue. This car has only 56,000 miles on it. There is no way their safety recall on this exact situation should not be expanded to vehicles prior to 2022. It's a serious safety issue.

I bought my car brand new off the lot in March 2021, it is a 2021 Honda HRV sport all wheel drive. I've been noticing over the past year that the lever to my seat has been changing the amount of times you need to pump it and the height at which it goes. When I first got the car I want to say that it pumped around 5 to 8 times, now I must use the lever anywhere from 10 to 31 times, and it is always different. The fact that the car no longer holds its position has led me to need to buy a cushion to sit on to see over the steering wheel. This is a huge safety concern because I would have never bought a car that I cannot see over the steering wheel too and nor would I have bought it brand new off the lot. There's also leads to issues where I am constantly needing to adjust my mirrors, adjust my seatbelt, and adjust my steering wheel as well as adjust my distance from the steering wheel. This is wreaking havoc on my mirrors motor and is causing me to break rapidly or not be able to reach the gas pedal if I don't notice that the seat has sunk. When the sea sinks on its own, I am unable to pump it up any higher because it thinks it's at the max amount. I am done forced to get out of the car pump it all the way to the bottom and then pump it all the way to the top. Every time it is a different amount of pumps on the seat lever. This is a huge safety risk while I'm driving. I've also noticed that the seat looks to be leaning while it's on its rails, and the section that sits in the rails while it is at the highest point, don't even look secure I will attach pictures. I weigh 90lbs so I know I have not crushed the cushioning in the seat.

THE FRONT SEAT ELECTRIC HEATERS DO NOT ADEQUATELY HEAT UP IN EITHER THE HIGH OR LOW SETTINGS. DEALER TECHS CLAIM THE CABIN CLIMATE CONTROL HAS TO BE TURNED UP BEFORE THEY WILL WORK. 07/06/2020- AROUND 12: 32 PM, MY CAR SUDDENLY DIDN'T WORK/STOPPED AS I'M ABOUT TO TURN LEFT ON AN INTERSECTION . THE STEERING WAS LOCKED. STOPPING AND TOTALLY LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY INTERSECTION IS NOT A SIMPLE PROBLEM. IT IS A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION THAT HAPPENED TWICE IN AS LITTLE AS 3,000+ MILES OF DRIVING (AS MY ODOMETER INDICATED). I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS RELATED TO THE CAR RECALL MY CAR HAS, WHICH AT THAT TIME NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. ALSO, THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME MY BATTERY WAS DEAD. MY CAR IS BRAND NEW. I WAS TRYING TO FILE FOR LEMON LAW, BUT THEY SAY ITS NOT APPLICABLE SINCE I HAVE WARRANTY. I HOPE YOU CAN GIVE ME LIGHT ON THIS SITUATION. I AM A FIRST TIME DRIVER, I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS. The digital gauge on this vehicle has intermittent faults. The gauge goes totally blank, sometimes the digits appear scrambled, other times not at all. This gauge includes odometer as well as the fuel gauge, (and other analytical information that is perhaps not as critical). The lack of a reliable working fuel gauge on this vehicle is concerning and may cause driver to unknowingly run out of fuel in places that are totally unsafe - highway, bridge, or some remote location. Another concern is that if the odometer is not working, not accumulating miles, how does a buyer know what she/he is buying? Is the vehicle mileage accurately reflecting the miles on this car? Checking on this on-line I discovered that this is not an isolated problem, and that NHTSA may not be aware of this as car owners may not be reporting this as a safety issue. I also discovered that some Honda dealers have addressed this problem, while others push-back on this and want owners to pay for this repair. I purchased my vehicle three months ago, from a private owner. I was not informed of this problem at time of purchase. I did bring this to Honda's attention and was told to bring it in for service, at my own expense.

The contact stated that shards of glass fell onto the dashboard from the sunroof. The contact pulled over and upon inspection of the vehicle discovered a hole in the middle of the sunroof. The contact used tape to secure the sunroof on both sides and continued normal driving without further issues. The vehicle was eventually taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty and the contact was given an estimate for the replacement of the sunroof glass. I was driving into my very short driveway tonight. I have a class B (van sized RV) parked in front. As I drove in and started to brake, the car accelerated rapidly. I tried pumping the brake, but the car accelerated and hit the back of the RV, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The air bags did not deploy, but the seat belt became very tight. I took the car into a dealer in Utah 4 weeks previously and they did recall work on the brakes and fuel line. The problem with the brakes was excess air in the brake lines that they had to bleed, from what I read about the recall. I don't know if this is still the problem, but something caused the brakes to fail. I am now unsure if this car will be safe to drive, even after repairs. I live in a very remote area where the nearest community of any size is 2 hours in either north or south directions. There is open livestock grazing (horses and cattle) on the two lane highway and without the ability to brake as needed, this could be deadly for me, my passengers and the livestock. Please look into this. I have NEVER had this happen!

2019 HONDA HRV paint began to come off the car at 3 years old. Now the car is 5 years old and the area of concern is growing. The paint is pealing off down to the base of the car structure. This is a safety issue because when it begins to rust, the car parts will fall off. The area around with windshield is pealing decreasing the structural soundness of the car. When it rusts the windshield will not be held in place. Honda USA: Anthony at 800-999-1009. EX: 88024 was contacted and reported that even thought this same make and model car was recalled in 2016-2018 they will not fix the defect they knowingly manufactured. I have had the car inspected by Fisher Honda Colission Center in Boulder, Colorado. They said it is the same paint issue they saw on the cars in 2016-2018. Where Honda did recall the vehicles.

I have only 40,000 miles on my 2019 Honda HRV. Due to utilizing the lane assist, my rack and pinion, inner tie rod ends and steering shaft assembly have all came lose. When I drive, I can turn my steering wheel to the right and left one inch and the wheels do not move. I need to move my steering wheel more than an inch for the wheels to engage due to everything being faulty and loose. I believe this stems from the vibration caused in the lane assist. I will now need to do a $2,000+ repair on a element of my vehicle that should last between 100,000 - 150,000 miles where my vehicle is only at 40,000 miles. I do not have invoice for the repair yet as I'm shopping around due to high cost. I have a video showing what the incident is, but the form won't allow me to send videos. The car was never in an accident, and both of these should not be breaking after just 5 years of ownership. A dash light indicator came on in my car. The image was not in any of the materials that came with the car. At that time the LCD information on the dash flickered and went out. I cannot see how much gas I have, when I need an oil change, odometers etc. I also seem to have decreased power when I attempt to accelerate . I am also aware of 2 recalls that came out in 2021 and 2023. I had the code read and it indicated an "Evaporative System Leak Detection". As of 5/14/2024 I had 15,828 miles on the car, in about 5 years so it should not be failing. I recently got a new job and am required to commute 50 miles each way. I am so terrified because I have tried the 2 nearest dealers in my area (Union Park Honda in Wilm. DE and Honda of Springfield PA). I have received zero consideration. I have had my car scheduled to go in and I HAVE to call them as I need a loaner. I NEVER move up on the list and then I am treated like I did not show up (I call the day before). When I was young I had anxiety and could not drive. I worked and pushed myself to be able to drive again and I have been for years. These issues are starting to make me more fearful and anxious. I actually asked the CS rep "Jade" where the car was manufactured ( Japan, Korea?) and if I should DRIVE MY CAR TO JAPAN for service. Her exact words were "That is up to you". Unbelievable.

I recently had my car repaired for the recall and a brake job (replacing pads and resurfacing rotors). A couple of days later, I was driving on the highway at about 60mph. Suddenly, the check engine light, parking brake light, brake light, and brake system light all went on. Additionally, the car was flashing neutral, drive, and parking gears while I was in park and driving. I started to slow down and realized that as my speed got slower, each new low speed became the highest speed I could go - pressing the gas with my foot did not increase the speed. As such, I drove to a nearby garage where the lights were reset. No mechanical issues were found with the car, nor was there a warning. I then called the dealership that had performed the service (DCH Paramus Honda in New Jersey) and I was informed that it was unlikely they would be able to diagnose any issues as the lights had been reset so the car was driveable. It seemed very dangerous that these issues could happen at any time. The brake system was put in maintenance mode during my brake job, so I suspect this was a computer issue rather than a mechanical problem.

When pushing on the gas pedal, the vehicle often pushes forward aggressively and shifts very hard. Other times it does nothing when pushing on the gas and several seconds later there is throttling and intermittent shaking back and forth. It does not happen all the time, but happens quite often. I fear the vehicle could propel forward when I am driving and hit someone or something or it could slow suddenly with lack of gas putting other drivers in harm's way. I know there is a similar recall on fuel pumps with this vehicles and my vehicle is within the years and types so I do not understand why my vehicle has not been recalled. No warning lights come on and I cannot have someone look at it without having to pay a large fee. I had an appointment in the past, but it does not do it al the time and they tell me they can't help me if it doesn't do it all the time. Thank you.

I was making a 90 degree right turn and had turned my steering wheel the amount needed to make this turn, however, the car direction did not match the amount the wheel was turned and continued to head towards the oncoming traffic lane. I removed my foot from the gas peddle and noticed that even though the radio was still playing, the screen had gone black. A couple seconds later, the screen came back on and the car jerked into the turn, seemingly finally catching up with the steering wheel. I took the car to my mechanic and the diagnostic scan did not show any codes that matched this issue. My mechanic did note that he looked up the issue and found other reports online of the same thing happening to 2019 HR-Vs after heavy rainfall. My incident occurred 3 days after we had so much rain that flash flooding occurred. Honda corporate directed my to the dealership. The Honda dealer I bought the car (in new condition) from, stated they aren't able to troubleshoot unless the codes are there to show the issue.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
1 complaint
The sun visor (Driver side) has become difficult to operate. Also, the sun visor does not close flush to the cabin roof. The sun visor is not operating as it should. I reached out to Honda but since there is no recall and this repair is outside of the warranty period, they will not make the repair at their cost. I do not want to purchase a new visor if Honda has not acknowledged the problem and made changes.

Issues: Sunroof leaks heavily: during the rain and in car washes, into the backseat, which is ruined now from the constant leaking this past winter 2022-23 *Sunroof replaced 3/2023 Continues to leak heavily Weather Strips: Doors lacking weather strips, or the weather strips are so loose and loosely connected, it serves very little purpose, i.e., the seal attaches loosely to widely spread intermittent hooks, these are not attached securely and leak significantly. Brought to Honda: Never repaired Steering: Severe instability when both turning and accelleration!! Very dangerous when making a left hand turn from a stopped position!! This happens daily! Body Parts: Cheaply made, put together incorrectly by the manufacturer Honda in Mexico, e.g., Honda is completely aware of the plethora of body defects, including the sunroof. According to Honda Service Manager Ukiah CA. Brake System: Very poor, I would caution the need to slam on the brakes as they take much to long to engage.

I had three warning lights come on: brake system, electronic break, and E brake. I was told at the dealership that the factory warranty ended less then two weeks ago and thus neither the diagnostics nor any of the repairs would be covered by the warranty. Even though it is obviously a factory defect. Also after a little research it became very obvious that it is a very common occurrence among HRV’s that seems to be happening anywhere from weeks to years after purchase.

SUSPENSION
1 complaint
The vehicle developed a rattle and I took it to the dealer and was told that both rear shocks and dampers had to be replaced. When I went to pick up my vehcile, there was another vehicle that was the exact same year and model there with the same issue. My car has only 24,731 miles and was our of warranty by 1 month. This seams too coincidental form my car and another car to come in with the same problem, which leads me to believe that this may be a fault part. Please look out for this problem on other similar vehicles.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS COME ON INCLUDING PARKING BRAKE. AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF, THE LIGHTS GO OFF AND COME BACK ON AFTER 5 MINUTES OF DRIVING AGAIN. IF PARKING BRAKE IS ENGAGED WHEN PARKED, IT IS NOT RELEASABLE. CHANGED BATTERY WITH HONDA BATTERY, ISSUE RESOLVED. 6 MONTHS LATER DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN BUT THIS TIME THE DOOR AJAR LIGHTS AND SOUNDS ARE ON AND THE OVERHEAD LIGHT IS COMING ON AND OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AMONGST 2019 HRV'S. DEALERSHIP DOES NOT KNOW WHAT WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY PROVIDE CODED THAT SAYS IT WILL BE THE START OF THE RESOLUTION AND CODE CAN BE RAN AFTER THESE ITEMS ARE FIXED TO FIX THE REMAINING ITEMS THAT MIGHT BE CAUSING IT. $2600 FOR A NOT EVEN 3 YEAR OLD CAR TO BE FIXED FOR A KNOWN ISSUE???? HRV FORUMS HAVE MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS AND THE ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED. LIGHTS COMING ON IN THE CAR ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT ARE A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR AND NO WARNING THAT ANYTHING IS WRONG.

MY VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE. AFTER THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPPED AND I TRIED TURNING ON A SYMBOL OF STEERING WHEEL AND AN EXCLAMATION CAME ON. ONLY THING TO NOTE IS THAT WE WERE USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AT THAT TIME. MY VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THE HONDA DEALER SAID IT WAS NOTHING BASED ON DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY'RE NOT SURE WHY THIS HAPPENED.

MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS SEVERAL THAT ARE ALREADY LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE. SOMETIMES WHEN I BRAKE THE CAR ACCELERATES AND TRIES TO TAKE OFF. I HAVE TO LET OFF THE BRAKE AND STOMP ON IT AGAIN AND I FEEL THAT THE ACCELERATOR LETS UP. SOMETIMES WHEN I LET OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR STARTS TO SPEED UP ON IT'S OWN. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY "CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM." I WAS TOLD BY ADRIAN FROM HONDA AMERICA " WE WILL DO NOTHING FOR YOU. WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR IT ONLY HAD 3400 MILES ON IT SO IT WAS LIKE BRAND NEW. IT DOES IT MOST OF THE TIME WHEN DECELERATING FROM A HIGHER SPEED, LIKE COMING OFF THE FREEWAY AND SLOWING TO STOP AT THE LIGHT.

MY INCIDENT OCCURRED IN JANUARY 2020, WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF PURCHASE. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW. I WAS DRIVING IN MY PARKING GARAGE AND TURNING INTO MY PARKING SPOT. AS I WAS MAKING THE TURN TO THE RIGHT, I HIT THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. INSTEAD OF REDUCING SPEED, THE CAR ACCELERATED AND HIT A CEMENT POLE NEXT TO MY PARKING SPOT. THE CAR SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF. THE FRONT END WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED AND REQUIRED EXTENSIVE REPAIR ON THE FRONT BUMPER AND GRILL, FRONT LAMPS, RADIATOR, AND COOLING,

THE FIRST TIRE DAMAGE HAPPENED ON 1/10. WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM THE CITY. THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE, BUT KEPT DRIVING BECAUSE WE WERE ON THE BRIDGE. THE FOLLOWING DAY HONDA DEALER DID THE FOLLOWING: 1/11 RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS REPLACED DUE TO SIDE WALL DAMAGE; WHILE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER, HONDA CLAIMS THE TECHNICIAN, DUE TO INTERNAL NEGLIGENCE (WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?) CAUSED DAMAGE TO SIDEWALL: 1/11 LEFT FRONT TIRE REPLACED "DUE TO INTERNAL NEGLIGENCE"; ON FEBRUARY 24TH, WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM NYC, ALMOST ON THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE, WHEN THERE WAS LOUD SOUND. I THINK I HIT A POT HOLE: AT THE HONDA DEALER ON 2/25 WHERE THE LEFT REAR TIRE REPLACED DUE TO SEVERE DAMAGE TO SIDEWALL; ON MARCH 8, WHILE DRIVING ON ROUTE 4 PRESSURE LIGHT SUDDENTY TURNED ON: HONDA DEALER ON3/9 WHERE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT ON, DIAGNOSIS WAS TOO MUCH TIRE PRESSURE SO ADJUSTED THREE TIRES REPLACED ALL DUE TO SIDEWALL DAMAGE. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A COINCIDENCE. THAT IS TOO MANY TIRES BEING DAMAGED FOR THE SAME REASON. THE CAR HAS 8646 MILES ON IT. WHEN TIRE WAS REPLACED 2/25, TIRE PRESSURES WERE ALSO CHECKED. THEN BY 3/9, ALL TIRES HAD TOO MUCH AIR. THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES OR THE CAR. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR ANYMORE, WONDERING WHEN THE NEXT "SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE SIDEWALL" WILL HAPPEN.

SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE, THREE INDICATOR LIGHTS HAVE GONE ON AND OFF APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES AND THE VEHICLE IS IN THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOW FOR THE THIRD TIME TO TRY AND REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE: THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE YELLOW ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE SYMBOL ((P)) AND A RED FLASHING "PARK" LIGHT. ON THE SECOND VISIT, THE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS REPLACED. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED AGAIN DURING THIS, THE THIRD VISIT, A MONTH LATER AND IS STILL IN THE SHOP TO ENSURE THE LIGHTS DO NOT GO ON IN MY POSSESSION. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THE OXYGEN SENSOR IS THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE AND THE DEALER HAS YET TO FULLY RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
