WE TRAVELED FROM NEW MEXICO TO CALIFORNIA AND WHEN WE ARRIVED AND GOT IN TOWN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING ON CITY STREET

ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN SPEED SENSOR ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION AS REMOVED AS STATED ON THE HANES MANUAL FOR THE CAR BUT WHEN REINSTALLING A SPACER NOT MENTION IN THE BOOK AS NECESSARY FOR INSTALLATION FELL DURING REMOVAL AND AS RESULT NOT INSTALLED RESULTED ON THE BRAKING OF THE SENSOR WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO TOTALLY FAIL. I AM NOW WITHOUT CAR DUE A SIMPLE BOOK ERROR.

THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED SECOND HAND IN 2012 AND IMMEDIATELY NEEDED TO HAVE ITS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,000. EVEN NOW THERE IS OCCASIONAL SLIPAGE OF THE NEW TRANSMISSION, WHICH INDICATES TO ME IT MAY NOT BE LONG FOR THIS WORLD. IT'S PAINFULLY OBVIOUS HONDA BUILT AND INSTALLED SUP PAR TRANSMISSIONS FOR MANY YEARS, DESPITE MOUNTAINS OF COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS. THEY SHOULD BE TAKEN TO TASK FOR POOR DESIGN, ENGINEERING AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS SLAMMING INTO 2ND TILL IT STARTED SLIPPING. I PUT IN A USED SOLENOID....BUT IT STILL SLIPS IN 2ND AND ANOTHER SYMPTOM IS TCS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER 5 MIN OR SO DRIVING. [ I CAN MAKE IT GO INTO 2ND IF I REV IT OUT TO ABOUT 25-3000 RPM IN FIRST GEAR AND BACK OFF THE ACCELERATOR FAST AS IT IS GOING IN TO 2ND THEN IT GOES INTO GEAR.] SO I TRIED PUTTING IN A NEW DUAL LINEAR SOLENOID - HAD SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT BUT STILL SLIPS IN 2ND GEAR OR WILL NOT GO INTO 2ND GEAR WITHOUT BACKING OFF ACCELERATOR. I ALSO CHECKED THE OTHER SOLENOIDS WHICH SEEM OK.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR OPENED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING ON ITS OWN.

THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN/CLOSE USING ANY OF THE CONTROLS. WE HAVE TO CLOSE IT MANUALLY BUT IT WON'T LATCH COMPLETELY SO WE ARE FORCED TO DRIVE WITH THE DOOR SLIGHTLY AJAR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME WITH MY TWO DAUGHTERS SITTING THERE. BECAUSE THE DOOR IS SLIGHTLY OPEN WE HAVE TO TURN OFF THE MAIN POWER SWITCH TO THE SLIDING DOORS TO AVOID HAVING THE CONSTANT BUZZING NOISE. THIS MEANS THEY ARE LOCKED IN THE BACK SEAT AND UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN AFTER TRIPS TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED. I HAVE 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY THE POWER SLIDING DOORS FAIL ON A REGULAR BASIS WHICH ENTAILS NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN AND OR CLOSE SLIDING VAN DOORS. THEY WILL START TO CLOSE THEN REOPEN, NOT CLOSE AT ALL AND WILL NOT LATCH PROPERLY. WHEN YOU START TO DRIVE THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE BUZZER WILL BUZZ INDICATING THE DOOR IS NOT PROPERLY SEALED. WHEN WE (FAMILY OF 4) WERE BACKING OUT OF OUR DRIVE WAY, AT/ABOUT 5MPH, A LOUD METALLIC NOISE WAS HEARD. IT APPEARED TO COME FROM UNDER THE VAN, FRONT/LEFT SIDE. WE PARKED THE VAN AND LOOKED UNDER THE VAN, EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL. BUT THE NOISE WAS QUITE LOUD AND WE KNEW SOMETHING WAS NOT CORRECT. WE DROVE THE VAN ABOUT 50 FEET IN OUR CUL-DE-SAC AND HEARD ANOTHER METALLIC NOISE AND SOMETHING FELL UNDER THE VAN. WHEN WE LOOKED UNDER THE VAN, WE FOUND A PIECE OF SUSPENSION SPRING, ABOUT 9 INCHES LONG. THE PIECE WAS NOT RUSTED OR BRITTLE, IT LOOKED PRETTY STONG, BUT APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN SUDDENLY BROKEN/SNAPPED. LUCKY THAT IT DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN WE WERE ARE ON ANY HIGHWAY OR AT A HIGHER SPEED. LATER WE TOOK VAN TO GET, THE SPRINGS/STRUTS REPLACED. A GOOGLE SEARCH FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE NOT ALONE, THIS SEEM TO HAVE HAPPENED LOTS OF OTHER FAMILIES. A TYPICAL WEBSITE EXAMPLE IS BELOW. CAR BEGAN TO RUMBLE AND VIBRATE WHEN I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE. THERE WAS A LOUD POP NOISE WHEN ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AND AGAIN WHEN I STARTED IT THE NEXT MORNING. THOUGHT IT WAS AN EXHAUST PROBLEM BUT MY RIGHT FRONT ENGINE MOUNT WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ENGINE MOUNTS I FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE HONDA ODYSSEY. MORE THAN LIKELY, I WILL BE NEEDING THE OTHER MOUNTS REPLACED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. HAVE HAD THE BATTERY REPLACE AND STILL NO IMPROVEMENT. READING ON THE INTERNET SUGGEST A HONDA ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT THEY DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. HONDA NEEDS TO EXPEDITE PROCURING THIS PART. HONDA SHOULD BE FINE. I WAS ALSO NOTIFIED THAT NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. SIX MONTHS LATER, WE STILL DON'T HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRESS OF THE NEW AIRBAG PART, AND I'M HAVING TROUBLE BELIEVING THAT HONDA IS MAKING THIS A PRIORITY.

I PURCHASED BRAND NEW MICHELIN DEFENDER TIRES THREE WEEKS AGO FROM A MICHELIN CERTIFIED AUTO REPAIR SHOP. TODAY WE HAD A CATASTROPHIC BLOW OUT...CONSISTENT WITH A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. WE WERE DRIVING LESS THAN 30 MILES PER HOUR...ON A CLEAR CITY STREET IN VIRGINIA. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE....IT WAS OBVIOUS THE TIRE HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. ABOUT HALF A YEAR AGO, ONE OF TWO FUTURA 2000 RADIAL LTE ON OUR HONDA ODYSSEY 2000 STARTED VIBRATING AT AROUND 35 MPH. I TOOK THE CAR TO A TIRE SHOP TO HAVE THE TIRE INSPECTED. THE PASSENGER CAN SLIP OUT OF THE SEAT BELT ON IMPACT, RISKING INJURY OR DEATH. I COMPENSATED FOR THIS WHEN MY SON WAS IN A BOOSTER SEAT BY STRAPPING THE BOOSTER SEAT TO THE SEAT BUT NOW THAT HE IS NO LONGER IN A BOOSTER SEAT HE IS NOT RESTRINED BY THE SEATBELT. PUTTING HIM IN THE SEATS IN THE CAPTAINS CHAIR CONFIGURATION PUTS HIM AT RISK SINCE HE WOULD THEN BE NEXT TO THE DOOR AND POINT OF IMPACT. I AM ON MY SECOND SET OF BRAKE PADS IN THE JUST UNDER 45000 MILES. I TOOK MY VAN TO TWO LOCAL BRAKE STORES AND THE DEALER. I TOLD THEM ALL THE SAME INFORMATION I WAS HEARING GRINDING WHEN I STOP. JUST BRAKES TOLD ME THE CALIPERS ON MY VAN WERE NOT RETRACTING. THIS CAUSED MY BRAKE PADS TO GLAZE BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE I WAS ALWAYS APPLYING MY BRAKES. THEY ALSO DISCOVERED MY BRAKE PADS WERE CRACKED. THEY ALSO HAD A LIST OF OTHER THINGS THAT HAD TO BE RESURFACED BECAUSE OF WEAR. THEIR ESTIMATE FOR THIS WORK WAS JUST OVER $400. IT WAS TIME FOR MY 45,000 MILE MAINTENANCE, SO I TOOK MY VAN TO GOODSON HONDA WHERE I PURCHASED IT. I TOLD THE DEALER MY CALIPERS WEREN'T WORKING. IT HAD CAUSED MY BRAKE PADS TO CRYSTALLIZE AND I WANTED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THE DEFECT IN THE CALIPERS AND TO FIX MY BREAK SYSTEM UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THIS DEFECT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CALIPERS AND THE BRAKES SHOULD LAST ANOTHER 5000-7000 MILES. WHEN I ASKED WHY THE PADS WERE GLAZED, THEY SAID BRAKES USUALLY DO NOT LAST 45,000 MILES. WHEN I TOLD THEM IT WAS MY SECOND SET OF BRAKE PADS, THEY SAID IT COMES FROM RIDING THE BRAKE. I LIVE PRETTY FAR OUT FOR THE HOUSTON AREA AND MY JOB REQUIRES ME TO DRIVE ALONG A WELL SURFACED COUNTY ROAD WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. THERE IS NO STOP AND GO DRIVING. THE DEALER DIDN'T CATCH THE CRACKED BRAKE PADS AND ADMITTED THAT THEY HADN'T EVEN CHECKED THE PADS. I HAD MY BRAKES REPAIRED YESTERDAY AT A LOCAL BRAKE CHECK. THEY OILED THE CALIPERS, (THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE STICKING) REPLACED MY CRACKED BRAKE PADS, AND RESURFACED MOST EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE SYSTEM AT A COST OF $234.

CLEAR DRIVING CONDITIONS NO WATER, OIL OR MUD ON PAVEMENT. DRIVER WAS ATTENTIVE. I HAD STOPPED IN TURN BAY, CROSSED OVER THREE TRAFFIC LANES TO SIDE STREET. THEN IMMEDIATELY MADE A LEFT TURN INTO PARKING LOT AND A RIGHT TURN INTO PARKING SPACE. AS I ENTERED PARKING SPACE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY DECELERATION, JUMPED A SMALL CURB AND HIT A TREE. I NOTICED AN ODOR OF BURNING OIL OR RUBBER AT IMPACT. THE HONDA DEALER CHECKED THE BRAKES AND COULD NOT FIND ANY DEFECT AND THEN DENIED ANY LIABILITY FOR ACCIDENT. SINCE THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, AND I KNOW THE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR, I AM AFRAID TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND BE A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WE ARE TRYING TO RESOLVE WHAT WE BELIEVE TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY REGARDING THE FUNCTION OF OUR SEAT BELT SYSTEM. OUR SEAT BELT IS COVERED BY A LIFETIME WARRANTY BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE BELT MATERIAL HAS DEGRADED AND FRAYED CREATING LONG STRANDS OF FIBER THAT RESTRICT IT SLIDING THROUGH THE LATCH MECHANISM. IN ADDITION, THE WIDTH OF THE BELT HAS BEEN REDUCED BY OVER 10% DUE TO THE MATERIAL FRAYING AND UNRAVELING. HONDA HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AN ISSUE - CHOOSING TO SOLELY FOCUS ON WHETHER OR NOT THE SEAT BELT WILL RETRACT AND "LATCH" --- IGNORING THAT THE BELT ITSELF HAS BEEN SEVERELY DEGRADED. CLEARLY THE MATERIAL CHOSEN BY HONDA IS DEFECTIVE AND HAS NOT PROVIDED THE LIFETIME BENEFITS OFFERED IN OUR WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE SLIDING DOORS ON MY ODYSSEY HAVE FAILED THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SO THE DEALER HAS BEEN REPLACING THE MOTORS AND LATCHES. THE CONCERN IS THEY ARE NOT LATCHING AFTER THEY FAIL. THE OTHER CONCERN WAS THEY TRIED TO TELL MY WIFE THAT SHE NEEDED TO PULL ON THE TOP OF THE DOOR TO RELEASE THE TENSION SO NOT TO BURN OUT THE MOTOR. $26,000 AND WE NEED TO PRY THE DOORS OPEN? I LOCK THEM MANUALLY NOW BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT THEM OPENING WHILE TRAVELING.

HAVE HAD POWER SLIDING DOORS LOOKED AT SEVERAL TIMES SINCE PURCHASE. EACH TIME DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, TILL NOW. DOOR AJAR BUZZER WOULD SOUND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FROM DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. TURNING OFF POWER SWITCH SILENCED THE BUZZER & DOOR SEEMED OK. LATELY, THE DOOR WAS NOT LOCKING. DEALER DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM, REPLACED JUNCTION CONTACTS WITH "UPGRADED" ONES. THEN NOTED THE CLUTCH MOTOR THAT CLOSES THE DOOR DID NOT COMPLETE THE JOB & THAT THE DOOR WAS NOT LATCHING! HE DID NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD OPEN ACCIDENTALLY. WE HAVE PLACED 2 CALLS TO HONDA OF NORTH AMERICA, WITHOUT RESPONSE, LOOKING FOR AN EXTENSION ON THE WARRANTY TOWARD THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS MOTOR. STILL WAITING FOR RESPONSE AFTER 6 DAYS.

The odometer is often unreadable. This has happening for several months now, maybe over a year, but recently more and more. I looked online and many people are saying this is a safety issue - these readings are used for inspections, maintenance, insurance, etc. Th problem is that there are extra segments highlighted in the LCD display, which makes the affected digits unreadable. Like, if all 7 segments appear showing an "8", that could be any number. If the number shows as a 7, it might really be a 1 -- you can't tell. If it shows a 3, that might really be a 7 or 1. Sometimes there is no actual digit showing, just a random assortment of segments. Date of "first" occurrence below is just an estimate, but it has really gotten worse in the last few weeks.

DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED IT WAS TRANSMISSION, MY CAR DIDN'T PASS INSPECTION AND I GOT A SUMMONS ALREADY. SHE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL HARD TO UNLOCK IT, AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIRES WERE INTERTWINED AND WHEN THE CONTACT UNLOCKED THE STEERING WHEEL, IT SNAPPED THE WIRES. AS A RESULT, THE AIR BAG, TURN SIGNALS, AND HORN FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED BECAUSE THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. THE OUTER SURFACE OF THESE HEADLAMP MODULES IS MOLDED POLYCARBONATE PLASTIC. THAT PLASTIC IS MUCH LIGHTER THAN GLASS AND FAR MORE RESISTANT TO STONE CHIPS AND CRACKS. HOWEVER, AFTER A FEW YEARS OF EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT AND ATMOSPHERIC CHEMICALS, POLYCARBONATE HAS A TENDENCY TO GET HAZY." RECENTLY I THOUGHT ONE OF MY HEADLAMPS HAD GONE OUT ON MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. IN MAY 2005 THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS 2000 ODYSSEY FAILED AND WAS REPLACED BY OUR LOCAL DEALER AT NO CHARGE UNDER THE DIRECTIONS OF SERVICE BULLETIN 02-062. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME WAS ALMOST 72,000 MILES. WE HAD HEARD THAT THERE HAD BEEN TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND WE THOUGHT THAT THE 2005 REPLACEMENT WOULD HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. NOW, AFTER ANOTHER 68,000 MILES, THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. THIS REPLACEMENT ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER SUNSET AT ABOUT 7:00 PM ON AN UNLIT TWO LANE COUNTRY ROAD WITH LITTLE ROOM OR OPPORTUNITY TO PARK SAFELY. MY HUSBAND, WHO IS ALMOST 70 YEARS OLD WAS DRIVING AND WITH NO GEARS BARELY MANAGED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS STILL DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO THE ROAD, BUT FORTUNATELY ANOTHER DRIVER STOPPED AND HELPED MY HUSBAND PUSH THE ODYSSEY A FEW EXTRA FEET TO A SLIGHTLY SAFER AREA. WE WERE ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM A CURVE WHERE APPROACHING CARS COULD NOT SEE US UNTIL THEY WERE ALMOST UPON US. THE ONLY PROTECTION WE HAD WAS OUR EMERGENCY FLASHERS. I HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR P0401 CODE FOR CLOGGED EGE SYSTEM AND P1739 FOR THE TRANSMISSION CODE MY TRANSMISSION WAS ALREADY REPLACED THIS IS THE 2ND TRANSMISSION FROM HONDA. ON AUGUST 2010 MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK THE CAR TO PEP BOYS. THEY PULLED UP THE 2 CODES P0401 AND P1739 FOR CLOGGED EGR SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION CODE. I REPLACED THE EGR VALVE AND STILL THE SAME CODE CAME UP. MY CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT HAS TO BE PERFORMED TO UNCLOGG THE EGR SYSTEM THAT IS TO HONDA BULLETIN 00-009 TO DRILL A HOLE IN THE MANIFOLD AND INSTALL A PIPE. HONDA IS REPLACING FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS WITH REBUILT TRANSMISSIONS THAT ARE JUST AS FAULTY, IF NOT MORE SO, THAN THE ORIGINAL. MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER WAITING FOR ITS 4TH TRANSMISSION. AFTER THE FIRST ONE FAILED AT 62K MILES, THE DEALER ASSURED ME THAT HONDA HAD FIXED THE ISSUES AND THAT THE REPLACEMENT WOULD NOT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WOO HOO FOR HONDA! THEY ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM, FIXED IT, AND TOOK MEASURES TO ADDRESS IT AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. THEY SCORED BIG POINTS WITH THAT MOVE... UNTIL THE SECOND TRANSMISSION FAILED 57K MILES LATER (10K MILES PAST THE 109K CLASS ACTION WARRANTY EXTENSION). WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER THIS TIME, I QUESTIONED HIM OVER AND OVER AGAIN ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE TRANSMISSION THEY WERE ABOUT TO INSTALL. I TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER BECAUSE I HEARD OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT CONCERNING THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. MY VEHICLE HAD ONLY @53 ,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. AUGUST ODF 2010, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WITH ANOTHER TRANSMISSION CODE. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY @84,000 MILES ON IT. I SPOKE WITH ED VOYLES HONDA AND HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY ADVISED THAT THEY ARE DOING NOTHING ELSE CONCERNING THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT PER THEIR JAPAN OFFICE. THE DEALER ADVISED ME THAT IF I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR A PORTION OF THE REPAIR IT WOULD HAVE CAME WITH A WARRANTY. IF I KNEW THAT I WOULD HAVE PAID SOME TOWARDS THE REPAIR. I DISCOVERED HONDA ONLY PROVIDED A WARRANTY ON THE REBUILT TRANSMISSION UNTIL THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT EXPIRED. 1999-2001 HONDA TRANSMISSIONS HAD A KNOW PROBLEM WITH THEIR TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BOUGHT MY USED ODYSSEY IN JANUARY 2012 FROM A DEALER AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 107,000 MILES. I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2004 THAT HAD THE WARRANTY UP TO 100,000 MILES AND AN APPROVED CLASS LAWSUIT IN 2006 THAT EXTENDED THE WARRANTY UP TO 109,000 MILES. THEREFORE, MY VAN IS STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE ITS AT 107,000. I STRONGLY REQUEST THAT THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND THAT HONDA FIXES AND PAYS FOR THE REPAIR; OR AT LEAST GIVE ME A CALL AND DISCUSS THE MATTER. MARCH 2007. WAS INFORMED BY HONDA DEALERSHIP IN IRVINE, CA THAT THE PROBLEM THAT EXISTED WITH MY 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY NOT PROVIDING COLD AIR WAS IN FACT A DAMAGED A/C CONDENSER. THE SERVICE TECH. SHOWED ME THE AREA IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE DAMAGE TO THE A/C CONDENSER HAD OCCURRED. THE SERVICE TECH INFORMED ME THAT THE RESULT WAS MOST LIKELY FROM A ROCK OR SIMILAR OBJECT STRIKING THE CONDENSER. AFTER FURTHER REVIEWING THE DAMAGED CONDENSER, I REALIZED THAT THE CONDENSER IS MOUNTED IN SUCH A FASHION IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AS NOT HAVING THE PROTECTION FROM ROAD DEBRIS THAT IT POSSIBLY SHOULD. THERE IS ONLY A SMALL GRILL THAT COVERS THE FRONT OF THE A/C CONDENSER. AFTER A WEEK OF DRIVING IT, IT BEGAN TO FEEL LIKE IT NEED IT MORE REV IN ORDER TO PICK-UP SPEED, SPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING IN FREEWAY CONDITIONS (TRAFFIC). THE VAN DID NOT DOWNSHIFT AS EXPECTED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, IN ORDER TO GAIN SPEED, I HAD TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL THE ENGINE REACHED 3K RPM, AND EVEN THEN THE TRANSMISSION NOISE CONTINUED. IT IS NOT A CONTINUOS OCCURANCE, IT IS DOING IT EVERY FOUR TO FIVE DAYS. I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE VAN AND SERVICE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THROUGH A COMPUTER, WHICH DETECTED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VAN, ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE MANAGER HAD NOTICED THE PROBLEM. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE I WAS GIVEN THE VAN BACK WITHOUT ANYTHING DONE TO IT, EXCEPT FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH. FIVE DAYS LATTER, ON APRIL 17, 2000 THE NOISE AND TRAIN PROBLEM SHOWED UP AGAIN, THIS TIME MORE SERIOUS. I TOOK THE VAN TO ANOTHER DEALER, AND THEY PERFORMED A COMPUTER TEST THAT AGAIN SHOWED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE NEW SERVICE ADVISER DID NOTICE THE PROBLEM WHEN HE TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE. HONDA WAS CONTACTED AND THE COMPANY ADVICED A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. BEING SUCH A POPULAR MODEL THE NEEDED TRANSMISSION IS NOT AVAILABLE AND ACCORDING TO HONDA IT WILL TAKE UP TO 30 DAYS TO GET A REPLACEMENT , HOPEFULLY NEW. ANOTHER AREA OF CONCERN IS THE BRAKE PEDAL, ONE CAN HEAR THE BOOSTER WHEN PRESSING THE PEDAL AND AT TIMES THE BRAKES DO NOT ENGAGE INMEDIATELLY. SO FAR SERVICE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM SINCE THE TRANSMISSION MATTER IS OF MORE IMPORTANCE. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND NOTICED A SMALL WISP OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. WE EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND TOOK THE PLASTIC COVER OFF THE STEERING COLUMN AND INVESTIGATED. APPROXIMATELY .5 TO 1 SECOND AFTER LOUD METALLIC NOISE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED CAR OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG, CONTINUED HOME CAUTIOUSLY ~ 1/2 MILE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND A PIECE OF THE BROKEN COIL SPRING HANGING DOWN FROM THE LEFT FRONT HALF SHAFT. DISASSEMBLY OF THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL ALLOWED FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE BROKEN COIL SPRING. IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE BROKEN PIECE OF COIL SPRING HAD STRUCK THE ABS WHEEL SENSOR LINE, RIPPED THE LEFT FRONT OUTBOARD CV JOINT BOOT AND WRAPPED ITSELF AROUND THE HALF SHAFT. I FELT LUCKY IN KNOWING THAT THE BRAKE LINE THAT WAS ~ 2 INCHES TO THE LEFT OF THE ABS SENSOR APPEARED UNDAMAGED. HAD THE VERY SHARP BROKEN PIECE FROM THE DAMAGED SPRING HIT EITHER THE BRAKE LINE OR THE TIRE AT HIGHWAY SPEED IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE OR A TIRE BLOW OUT. HAD THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO HAVE BEEN DRIVEN WITH THE SHARP BROKEN PIECE OF COIL SPRING WRAPPED AROUND THE HALF SHAFT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE, MOST LIKELY A CUT BRAKE LINE. IN TALKING WITH HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY FELT THERE WAS / IS NO ISSUE (EVEN THOUGH I RAISED THE ISSUE OF SAFETY), YET MY OWN RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THE COIL SPRING ON THE ODYSSEY HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED IN THE PAST WITH NO FINDING AND MANY FAILURES ARE DOCUMENTED ACROSS THE INTERNET. REPLACEMENT OF THE COIL SPRING, STRUT, ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND CV JOINT BOOT ARE REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR IT'S ROUTINE SERVICE, AS I DO FOR EACH SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE DOOR SWITCH WAS THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT WOULD COST $1,100 TO FIX. I EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED AT THE TIME I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. HONDA IN TURN TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD CALLED THE WARRANTY COMPANY (APPARENTLY THE WARRANTY WAS NOT A HONDA EXTENDED WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH, THIS IS WHAT ROSENTHAL HAD PORTRAYED IT AS) ABOUT THE REPAIR AND THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED. THEY TOLD ME THAT I COULD CALL THE WARRANTY COMPANY TO COMPLAIN IF I FELT SO INCLINED TO DO. I CALLED THE WARRANTY COMPANY AND THEY SAID THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE IS JUST OVER 75,063 MILES. THEY DID NOT CARE THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. MY QUESTION IS HOW CAN THIS BE A NON-RECALL ISSUE IF A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS SITUATION IS THE EXACT REASON WHY I PURCHASED HONDA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THAT HONDA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. IF I HAD KNOW THE DOORS ON THIS VEHICLE WOULD COST THAT MUCH TO FIX I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THAT VAN. *JB

WHILE FOOT IS ON BRAKE AT 4-WAY, CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE ENGINE WILL START TO REV UP. TOOK IT TO HONDA IN PEORIA IL - FIRST TOLD THAT "THEY" DIDN'T CARE TO WORK ON MY SUV BECAUSE IT WASN'T A TRUE HONDA. THEN, THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. AFTER THE THIRD TIME, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AFTER THE CAR WAS BROUGHT RIGHT OVER AFTER THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. NOTHING SHOWED, SO THEY CHANGED OUT A COUPLE PARTS INCLUDING THE CC SWITCH AND ACUATOR. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR, BUT NOW THE CAR SHUTS OFF. NOT GOOD WHEN YOU HAVE A GREEN LIGHT. NOW, THE CAR IS OVERHEATING, ALWAYS A QUART LOW EVEN THOUGH OIL CHANGES ARE AT 3,000 MILES. ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE KEEPS DROPPING THEN GOING BACK UP.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, POWER DOORS DO NOT STOP AND RETRACT WHEN PRESSURE IS APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUAL. TODAY WAS THE FOURTH TIME THAT ONE OF MY CHILDREN HESITATED WHEN EXITING THE VAN AND WAS STUCK WITHIN THE DOORWAY WHEN THE DOOR WAS AUTOMATICALLY CLOSING. NOT ONLY DID THE DOOR NOT STOP AND RETRACT WHEN IT REACHED MY CHILD'S BODY, BUT DID NOT STOP EVEN WHEN I PLACED THE FULL PRESSURE OF MY BODY AGAINST THE DOOR. WE ARE VERY OFTEN UNABLE TO USE THAT SEAT BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT GETS STUCK WHEN BEING DRAWN OUT TO BE BUCKLED. 3)THE REAR HATCH IS SOMETIMES INOPERABLE. THE UNLOCK BUTTON OF THE REMOTE MUST BE PRESSED 5 OR MORE TIMES FOR THE HATCH TO UNLOCK, AND EVEN THEN, IT RELEASES ONLY PARTIALLY. VEHICLE REAR-ENDED PART WAY INTO RIGHT TURN PUSHING VEHICLE INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE PARKED AT STOP SIGN. APPLYING BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS THE PASSENGER AND I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE ABOUT 500 FEET DOWN THE ROAD. IN ADDITION TO THE RACING ENGINE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF DRIVE WHEN WE FINALLY STOPPED. AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED ALTHOUGH THE IS EXTENSIVE RIGHT FRONT END DAMAGE. ON JUNE 16, 2000 MY 2000 HONDA ODYESSY WAS REAR ENDED OR HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR BUMPER. THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH ONLY 6,000 MILES ON THE ODYESSY. I WAS SOUTHBOUND ON EUCLID AVE. AT INTERSTATE 5. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IN A UPHILL POSITION. I WAS THE FIRST VEHICLE AT THE LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURN GREEN, I PROCEEDED TO GO AND MY ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND THEN CAUGHT AND THEN THE ENGINE STALLED OUT. THIS CAUSED THE ODYSSEY TO LURCH FORWARD AND THEN STOP SUDDENLY. WHEN THE ODYSSEY STOPPED I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS TO GO SO THAT NO BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON TO WARN THE DRIVERS TO MY REAR THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TO STOP. MY ODYSSEY WAS HIT IN THE REAR BUMPER BY THE VEHICLE TO MY REAR. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE ANAHEIM POLICE WHO CAME TO THE SCENE AND MADE REPORT # DR NO 00-23199. THE VEHICLE TO MY REAR WAS WITHOUT INSURANCE. I REPORTED THIS ACCIDENT TO HONDA OF AMERICA AND THE CALLED ME BACK TO INFORM ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGES TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT HAD AN APPRAISAL OF MY DAMAGES YET IT COULD BE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. I AM HOLDING OFF BECAUSE ON THE APPRAISAL BECAUSE THE VEHICLE BEHIND MINE HAD NO INSURANCE AND AMERICAN HONDA CLAIMS NO RESPONSIBILITY. ON A SEPARATE INCIDENT ON JUNE 24, 2000 MY LEFT REAR TIRE BLUE OUT AT 70 MPH WITH ONLY 7,500 MILES ON IT. I CAME TO A SAFE STOP AND HAD THE TIRE REPLACED FOR $100.00 . ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT THE BRAKES GRIND WITH A METAL TO METAL SOUND WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT MY POWER STEERING SOMETIMES HESITATES AND JERKS. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS WHEN RUNNING THE REAR AIRCONDITIONING ON HIGH THE REAR BLOWER SPEED FLUCTUATES LIKE AS IF IT HAS A BAD CONNECTION.
