THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2002 HONDA ODDYSEY WAS MAKING CLUNKY SHIFTS TO 2ND AND 3RD GEARS. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. LARRY HOPKINS HONDA SERVICE SAID TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACEMENT. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR 1999-2001 HONDA ODDYSEYS TRANSMISSIONS, AND THEY STILL DIDN'T FIX IT ON 2002 MODEL. OTHER INFO: ON 7/16/04, I TOOK CAR IN FOR THE RECALL/FIX (28,537 MILES)-- INSTALL OIL INJECTOR INTO TRANSMISSION. *JB

I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM HONDA REGARDING MY 2002 HONDA ODYSSEY. IN THIS LETTER, IT CLEARLY STATES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND WATER PUMP. HENCE I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AT NORM REEVE'S HONDA - CERRITOS. AFTER HAVING MY CAR AT THE SERVICE CENTER FOR 2 DAYS NOW ( I HAD TO RENT A CAR FROM ENTERPRISE), NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I NEED TO PAY THEM $3,800 TO REPLACE MY WATER PUMP. I AM VERY UPSET THAT I AM BEING TREATED THIS WAY. THE LETTER CLEARLY STATES THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION, AND THAT ANY SERVICES THAT MIGHT BE NEEDED WILL BE PERFORMED BY HONDA FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE OF THE RECALL. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SO WHY IS THE DEALER TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY?? PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU.

TRANSMISSION WORK VERY HEAVY LIKE IS PULLING SOMETHING, DON' SWIFT NORMAL. A TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL AT THE DEALER THEY SAY THAT THEY USE A DIGITAL CAMERA TO CHECK THE INTERIOR OF THE TRANSMISSION. I AM NOT CONVINCED THAT THEY ACTUALLY FIX SOMETHING IN THE TRANSMISSION , THIS A $5000 THIS IS NOT A JOKE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE DEALER WOULD NOT GIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE CONTACT DUE TO THE SEVERE LEVEL OF CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND WAS OFFERING TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE FROM THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT DID NOT AGREE TO SELL THE VEHICLE BACK AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 202,000.

THE DEALER DEEMED THE VEHICLE AS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND ADVISED HAVING THE FRAME REPLACED. THE CONTACT DECLINED THE OFFER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRAIL ARM WAS RUSTED AND EXHIBITING SIGNS OF CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FRAME WAS CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,800.

CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HIS MECHANIC TO HAVE AN EXHAUST PROBLEM REPAIRED. WHEN THE TECHNICIAN ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE EXHAUST, HE NOTICED THE BRACKETS WERE INSTALLED, BUT THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE CORROSION TO BOTH THE SUSPENSION FRAME AND TOWARD THE END OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THE RECALL WAS FOR THAT PARTICULAR AREA ONLY AND ANYTHING THAT THE NOTICE DID NOT MENTION WAS NOT TO BE WORKED ON. *JB

HONDA MOTORS CORPORATION RECENTLY SENT US A RECALL NOTICE FOR SUSPENSION BRACKETS THAT NEEDED TO BE REINFORCED BECAUSE OF SEVERE CORROSION TO THE AREAS AFFECTED. THEY REINFORCED THE BRACKETS WITH A BOLT KIT ON BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT HAND SIDES. HOWEVER, WHEN WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WHO DOES ALL OF OUR WORK ON OUR VEHICLES, HE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS STILL SAFETY ISSUES WITH CONSIDERABLE CORROSION TO THE SUSPENSION FRAMES AND SURROUNDING AREAS. I TOOK PICTURES AND AM FORWARDING THEM TO HONDA MOTORS CORPORATION IN TORRENCE, CALIFORNIA WHERE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED. ALSO PICTURES SENT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION IN WASHINGTON, DC. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM COLLAPSES, IT COULD CAUSE RUPTURE OF THE GAS TANK OR CUT THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM ALTOGETHER. BE ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT/INCIDENT TO REPORT AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN OR ANY ONE FOR THAT MATTER. I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS INFORMATIONAL SYSTEM WORKS, BUT IF YOU COULD EXPEDITE ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO REMEDY THIS SAFETY MATTER IT WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU.

IN JULY OF 2002, I PURCHASED A 2002 HONDA 919. IMMEDIATELY, I NOTICED THAT MY JACKET SMELLED OF EXHAUST FUMES. NOT THE SULFUR - ROTTEN EGG SMELL, BUT EXHAUST FUMES. ONE FRIDAY AFTERNOON IN AUGUST 2002, I TOOK MY WIFE FOR A RIDE - SHE WAS THE PASSENGER. AFTER ABOUT A 45-MINUTE RIDE, SHE COMPLAINED OF A HEADACHE AND WAS GENERALLY JUST FEELING CRAPPY. SO MUCH FOR OUR ROMANTIC AFTERNOON. TO TOP IT ALL OFF, I TOOK MY 6 YEAR OLD SON FOR A RIDE, AND IN TRAFFIC, HE FELL ASLEEP AND ABOUT FELL OFF THE BIKE. HE COULD HAVE DIED, WE WERE IN TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO GRAB HIM WITH ONE HAND AND PULL OVER. I CONTACTED MY DEALER, ROB EIDMANN OF ST. JOE HONDA (816-671-0671) ON MANY OCCASSIONS, AND HE COULD DO NOTHING. I WAS IN LONG BEACH AT THE INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE AND MENTIONED IT TO A HONDA REPRESENTATIVE, WHO PASSED ME ALONG TO "THE NATIONAL SERVICE MANAGER", TO WHOM I ALSO TOLD MY STORY TOO. THEY WERE IN DENIAL, SAID THEY HAD NO OTHER COMPLAINTS, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. TO REMEDY THE SITUATION ON MY OWN, I PAID FOR AND INSTALLED AN EXHAUST FROM ANOTHER HONDA MODEL THAT EXITS THE BIKE LOWER. THE MOTOR JUST RUNS HOT. 238 THRU 250. MY '01 RC-51 RAN BETWEEN 190 AND 212. THE '02 HAS TWO COOLING FANS WHICH WILL COME ON WHEN THE TEMP REACHES 219. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THE FANS WILL COOL THE MOTOR SOME BUT WHEN RUNNING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH THE FANS WORK AGAINST THE AIR FLOW AND THE MOTOR WILL NOT COOL. THE TEMP JUST GOES UP FROM THERE. TO ACTUALLY GET THE TEMP TO START DROPPING YOU HAVE TO BREAK THE LAW AND DO AT LEAST 105MPH SO THE NATURAL AIR FLOW CAN OVER POWER THE FANS. THE DEALER MECHANIC HAD AT ONE POINT SWITCHED THE FAN MOTORS POLARITY, REVERSING THE DIRECTION AT WHICH THEY RUN. THIS DID HELP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT IN TRAFFIC THE MOTOR RAN JUST AS HOT, 238/250, BECAUSE NOW THE FANS ARE PULLING THE HEAT OFF THE MOTOR. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL THREADS AT MOTORUSH.COM (RC-51.NET GENERAL DISCUSSION) ON THIS MATTER AND HAVE POSTED SOME THREADS MYSELF. SOME OWNERS OF THE '02 RC-51 HAVE HAD NO HEATING PROBLEMS AND SOME HAVE. I FEEL THAT MAXEY'S HONDA HAS DONE ALL THEY CAN AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE HONDA COME UP WITH A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REPLIED BY TELLING ME TO JUST PULL THR BIKE OVER AND LET IT COOLDOWN, IF THE HIGH TEMP OR OVERHEAT LIGHT COMES ON. I THINK THE MOTOR NEEDS A FRONT MOUNT RADIATOR INSTALLED TO HELP THE TWO SIDE MOUNTS COOL BETTER. OR MAYBE COOLING FANS THAT WILL NOT OVER POWER THE FRONT END AIR FLOW. IN SUMMARY, THIS '02 RC-51 RUNS ABOUT 30 TO 40 DEGREES HOTTER THAN MY '01 AND WHEN I HAVE SEEN IT HIT 250, 251 OVERHEAT LIGHT COMES ON, I WOULD HAVE TO THINK THAT SOME ENGINE DAMAGE HAS TAKEN PLACE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND THE SPEED INCREASED TO APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE FRONT END SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT FAILED. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO COLLIDE WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. I PURCHASED A 2002 HONDA PASSPORT USED, I RECENTLY HEARD A NOISE UNDER THE CAR AND WHEN CHECKED PART OF THE FRAME WAS BROKEN. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND A RECALL, NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT IT. I CALLED A DEALER AND WAITED 5 DAYS AND CALLED THEM AGAIN AND THEY SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY WILL NOT RELEASE IT TO ME. THEY SAID THAT IS NOT THE TRACKING LINK THAT IS THE PROBLEM, IT IS THE FRAME. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THE FRAME ROTTING NOT JUST THE TRACKING LINKS. While driving on freeway,in 3rd be Lane,65mph,power and motor instantly went out.Leaving me struck in the middle of freeway.On coming traffic traveling 65 to 75mph.Nearly causing major accident.I had purchased vehicle from original buyer.Incident happened right after purchase.Since incident this has happened approximately 15 other times.Within an hour or 2 car would start back up.I asked previous owner and was told that he had replaced 3 times a part to fix this problem.But still problem exists.

WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE (CAR IN REVERSE). DUE TO THE TIGHTNESS OF THE AREA, HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE TO PULL FORWARD SLIGHTLY AND THEN AGAIN IN REVERSE. WHEN THE CAR WAS PUT IN DRIVE THE SECOND TIME, IT LUNGED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING WHEN IT HIT A PARKED CAR. 2002 HONDA CIVIC COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER BRAKING GOING 15 MPH. CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE. THIS COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE FAILERE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO DEALERS AND BEEN SEEN IN MANY WEB FORUMS. THIS TIME MY SON WAS DRIVING WHEN THE ENGINE FAILERE LIGHT CAME ON AND BRAKES WENT OUT TURNING A CORNER. NO AIR BAG WAS EVER DEPLOYED WHEN HE HIT THE CURB AND SIGN WHICH SHOULD HAVE AS HE HIT A SIGN AND TREE STRIPPING THE FRONT BUMPER OFF AND CRUSHED THE RADIATOR INTO THE ENGINE. NO AIR BAGS WEAR EVER DEPLOYED. EVEN THE POLICE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THAT AND QUESTIONED IT . IT HAPPENED IN THE CITY OF HURST TEXAS. IN THESE FORUMS MANY DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF ENGINE FAILERE AND BRAKES IN SOME CASES. HONDA JUST PUT OUT A RECALL ON 1998-2000 FOR THE ENGINE IGNITION SWITCH SHORTING OUT CAUSING ENGINE FAILERE. I SUGGEST THEY INCREASE THAT RECALL TO 2002 POSSIBLY. ALSO I READ WHERE THE ELECTRICAL LOAD DETECTOR IS GETTING WET AND SHORTING OUT CAUSING THE SAME THING IN SOME CARS. IN ONE CASE I READ THAT THE VACUMM HOSE TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER MAY BE BAD. PUMPING THE BRAKES CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL. SO ANY CASE I THINK HONDA HAS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH ENGINES STALLING WHILE CONSUMERS ARE DRIVING. MY SON WAS LUCKY HE WAS ONLY DRIVING 15 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED . IF HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOSS OF LIFE. THE VEHICALE IS IN THE BODY SHOP GETTING FIXED AND AFTER THAT WILL BE DRIVEN TO HONDA FOR AN ENGINE CHECK. I HOPE THE COMPUTER CODES TELL US SOMETHING BUT I THINK HONDA NEEDS TO RESEARCH THIS CLOSLY.

WHILE PARKING, THE VEHICLE'S RUBBER COVER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SLIPPED OFF THE PEDAL, CAUSING THE CONSUMER'S FOOT TO SLIDE OFF THE PEDAL AND HIT AGAINST THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, WHICH IN TURN, CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD AND HIT A CONCRETE WALL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT A BENT PLATE ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE PEDAL LEVER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND ACCIDENT. *TC *SC
