I have code C0020-01-ABS Pump motor control on in my 2017 Ram 2500 for almost two years. I bought it used at a dealership in Maryland in June 2022 and each time I check with them, the part to fix it is backordered or not available. According to a Star online publication dated 4/28/20 from FCA, when this code is on the HCU and the ECU should be tested and replaced, but the abs module is on parts restriction. Also, NHTSA ODI (NEF-102ig PE22-012) sent a letter to Head, vehicle safety compliance FCA, on January 23, 2023, notifying them that NHTSA had opened a Preliminary Evaluation to investigate allegations of intermittent or permanent loss of braking performance in my truck type and year. I feel this is a severe safety Hazzard and a fix to repair should be immediately available, and a recall issued so the solution is free of charge to owners. At the time of the letter there were 134 reports, but can only imagine there are plenty more by now. Also, I’m sure there are thousands of owners who don’t know about this yet. Thank you.

The abs braking system failed and the truck was put in an uncontrolled skid where the brakes completely locked up and crashed into another car. The cause severe damage to 2 cars. I reported it to the dealership and they don't have a fix for it. There were no warning lamps prior to the collision and none are up now.

NHTSA Recall Number24V-896- HCU unit replaced once. Replacement unit has now fully failed. Dealer Dutch Miller Ram of South Charleston made positive diagnosis of failed unit [see attached]. Same dealer notes NC replacement HCU part is not available. Same dealer notes however for a charge of @$1100 Stellantis has replacement units available for installation with a part # separated from remedy part by a single digit. The warning chime causes distracted driving as warning light and chimes occur persistently intermittently. This unpredictability requires driver eyes and attention to confirm cause of warning! Recall letter received early January of 2025!

Truck has ABS and Traction control lights kicking on and off intermittently. Cruise control will kick off if engaged and won’t re engage until the lights go back off. Concerned this is gonna be a major safety concern hauling a 10,000 lb trailer

This is my 2nd NHTSA complaint regarding this issue on my 2017 Ram 2500. Initial online complaint was done on 4/30/2022 regarding the trucks annoying and unsafe warning light indicating “Service Electronic Braking System” and amber ABS warning light. These warnings began on my truck in 2021 when it only had 12,000 miles. These intermittent warning lights and audible “dinging” still persist today at 22,000 miles. On 2/8/2025, I received notification of Recall #C4B (finally) as a result of the class action lawsuit and was pleased to see this development. To date, I, like many Ram owners are still awaiting parts to become available to have them replaced per the recall and am requesting that the NHTSA step in to assist as we all have essentially unsafe trucks on US highways. I believe this should be a priority, given the fact that owners of 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks often own them to tow trailers (like myself) which leads to additional unsafe conditions on the road. It’s unacceptable to allow FCA US LLC to continue to delay addressing this recall.

I am writing to formally demand that Stellantis replace the drag link assembly on my 2017 Ram 2500 at no cost to me. The welding performed during Safety Recall V06 in 2019 has rendered my vehicle unable to receive proper wheel alignment, creating an ongoing safety issue and causing premature tire wear. Background In 2019, my vehicle was brought to dealer to have Safety Recall V06 performed. The recall procedure involved welding the jam nuts to the adjuster sleeve on the drag link. I was not informed at the time that this welding would permanently prevent future alignment adjustments to the drag link. Approximately three months ago, I purchased new tires for my vehicle. When I took my truck to have a wheel alignment performed, I was informed that the alignment cannot be completed because the drag link jam nuts are welded and cannot be adjusted. The alignment is significantly out of specification, causing uneven tire wear and compromised vehicle handling. Current Situation I contacted Hendricks Ram in Cary NC regarding this issue. The dealership has confirmed that: 1.My vehicle cannot be properly aligned due to the welded drag link 2.Ram/Stellantis is refusing to break the welds and replace with the new adjustable drag link kit 3.I am being asked to pay approximately $2,000 out of pocket to correct a problem that was directly caused by Stellantis's recall repair Legal and Regulatory Basis for This Demand October 2023 TSB Update: Stellantis issued revised Technical Service Bulletin instructions for Recall V06 in October 2023 (RCRIT-19V021-0837). This TSB provides that vehicles should be inspected and, depending on conditions found, either have the nuts permanently welded OR the drag link replaced. My vehicle's alignment is out of specification and cannot be corrected—this clearly qualifies for drag link replacement under the revised procedures.

1. Failure to Address a Safety Recall Promptly When scheduling the appointment, I informed the dealership of an open safety recall (Recall V06, NHTSA 19V-021) involving the steering linkage jam nut (a defect which can cause loss of steering control). This recall is critical for safety, yet I was told on the phone that the dealership “could not work on it yet” due to unspecified changes being made by the manufacturer. Upon arrival, I asked again about this recall. The service advisor stated it would require a separate appointment with a “special mechanic” and thus declined to even inspect the vehicle that day. This is extremely disheartening – a known safety defect (announced in January 2019) remains unaddressed on my truck almost seven years later, and the dealership made no effort to expedite or even evaluate the need for repair. As a loyal Dodge customer, I am very concerned that an authorized dealer would postpone a safety recall inspection, leaving me driving a potentially unsafe vehicle. Safety recalls should be handled with urgency, and I urge Dodge to ensure that this recall (V06) is rectified on my truck immediately. It is unacceptable that I must continue driving with a defect that “can result in a loss of steering control… causing a crash without warning,” according to the recall description I found on your site.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering). The vehicle was repaired; however, the drag link nut was welded, and the vehicle was unable to be aligned. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that the weld needed to be cut, the vehicle aligned, and then the drag link nut welded again. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The contact was informed about the reimbursement process for the repair. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while an employee was driving at undisclosed speeds, there was a whining sound, and vibration coming from the brake pedal. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with drained power steering fluid and a hole in the power steering hose. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,250.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle was not aligned. The steering wheel was upside down. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated they would have to break the welds. The mechanic declined to repair the vehicle. The contact called the local dealer, who stated that they would break the welds and reweld the drag link. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who opened a case and informed her the coverage had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I received notification of Manufacture Recall C4B (NHTSA Recall 24V-896) in Nov 2024. My intermittent ABS light on my dashboard is continuously going on and off, indicating a problem with the anti-lock braking system since 2024. This prevents the setting of cruise control as well as a constant alarm sound. I feel this directly correlates from the brake hydraulic control unit HCU susceptible to failure or malfunction as stated in the recall and feel unsafe to drive my vehicle due to the potential risk of loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control that may cause my vehicle to crash without prior warning. I have attempted to remedy this situation by contacting the Washington, NC and Greenville, NC Dodge dealerships and Mopar Parts Support (800-765-7732) directly for immediate repair only to be told that they do have my information on a ticket but do not have a part to fix it, but in the same breath tell me I can buy an after market part at my local auto parts store at my cost and have the dealership install at my cost to resolve my issue. This is unacceptable, as I now have a financed vehicle that I purchased from a Dealership and I am unable to confidently drive due to safety concerns that my life and others on the roadway may be in danger. In addition I am continually paying my monthly finance payment, auto insurance , yearly taxes/tags since the recall November 2024 and it is now August 2025 and I have an unsafe undriveable vehicle! I am seeking your assistance to demand the manufacture fix the problem by repairing it, replacing it or repurchasing the vehicle.

I have read online that this is a common problem for Ram Trucks. The SEBS and ABS lights and alarm will start flashing and dinging- the result is Intermittent ABS and traction control lights, no cruise or 4x4. I have 38,000 miles. I spent approximately $1300 to have it repaired. When I was. At the Ram repair shop, I was told that the parking lot was full of similar Ram trucks with the same problem. So clearly there should be a recall.

ABS module failure
Oct 04, 2024
On November 9, 2022 I had the Control-Anti-Lock Breaking System repaired by Bob Moore Chrysler Dodge in Tulsa. They replaced the HCU and performed a base bleed of the brake and ABS breaking system. This repair was prompted by the vehicles ABS warning light and chimes activating during operation. As of September 3, 2024 the same ABS warning light and chime is again activating during operation. I paid $620.00 the first time to get this issued repaired and I do not feel that I should have to pay this again on a part/system that is obviously defective from the manufacture. My research into this issue shows this is a common issue on these models as well as a possible safety problem.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES

HCU/ABS modules have failed for the second time in 50K miles. While using Cruise Control at highways speed (70mph) in heavy traffic the warning lines and chime came on. At the same instance the truck started slowing down dramatically. Almost causing us to get rear ended. It was like slamming on the brakes, but without brake lights to warn cars behind me. I finally figured out it caused the Cruise Control to kick out. Now I am having to listen to the constant chirping of the chime. It even chimes when the truck is not moving!!! Let me ask this question.... Why is it that long ago NHTSA required Anti-Lock Brakes on all cars to improve safety? Yet, when that system has a systemic problem of failure on these trucks, it's no longer a safety related problem? Makes zero sense!!! I purchased this truck with 99K miles on it. These modules went out once approximately 10K miles later. Now I have 154K miles and they have gone out again. FCA is selling replacement modules but they are the exact same failed design. They are not only not fixing the issue, they are knowingly selling parts that have systemic and reoccurring safety failures. This is legally called blatant negligence...

The ABS warning lights comes on intermittently saying that the ABS braking system needs to be serviced. This appears to be can common defect with the Hydraulic Control Unit and Module on all 2017 to 2018 Dodge Ram trucks. With this defect the anti skid braking system does not work and the brakes are compromised. This happened at about 30,000 miles and the truck was already out of warranty. Dodge is stating that it will cost about $2,500 dollars to fix once Hydraulic Control Units become available. Apparently there is a nation wide back order.

ABS/HCU defect. Vehicle does not stop properly without ABS and parts arnt available. Warning chime will not clear and unsafe to drive.
Aug 16, 2024
Service ABS comes on and off randomly. When cruising at highway speeds, it causes the random shutdown of cruise control when not expecting it. This is very dangerous. Dealer states parts are on back order for years and they also state that it won’t fix the issue long term anyways. How has this issue not resulted in a safety recall!? I’ve read that thousands are plagued with this same exact issue.

It is a known issue that 2017 ram 2500 diesels experience turbo or actuator failures at low mileage costing upwards of 8-10000 dollars in repairs. My ram only has 61000 miles and due to exhaust fluid requirements etc, premature failure is common. Owners should be able to extend the warranty to 15 years as Chrysler has known this issue and has failed to address it. The code is in the attached screenshot.
Aug 11, 2025
I got a p2609 code when the check engine light came on. After researching the code it has been determined it is the bolt holding the grid heater in place has deteriorated and now my engine needs to be dismantled to repair the problem. These repairs are roughly $3000.00. Ram has been aware of this problem in their vehicles since 2007 models and it is still a problem they are not being held responsible for.
Apr 28, 2025
The heater grid bolt busted loose ultimately resulting in total engine failure. The bolt went through the intake, beat cylinder 6 all to heck resulting in the piston going through the block and wrapping around the cam shaft. Over $20,000 in repairs later and I have a working truck again. This is a known issue. My mechanic has fixed several of these in the last year. If you own one of these trucks, it is only a matter of time before it happens to you.
Mar 10, 2025
The grid heater bolt failed and fell into the intake runner. The bolt then fell into the number 6 cylinder causing engine failure. The vehicle has 73554 miles on it. The grid heater bolt failure is a known problem and has been recalled on other vehicles.

ABS / TRACTION CONTROL AS WELL AS SERVICE ABS SYSTEM. AT TIMES IT COMES AND GOES AND MOST TIMES NOW IT STAYS ON. DISABLES CRUISE CONTROL AND AT TIMES EVEN SAYS 4 WHEEL DRIVE UNAVAILABLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY YEAR MODEL RAM AND I'D LIKE TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE ASAP.
Sep 02, 2024
2017 Ram 2500 ABS Pump Module was replaced before at 33,549 miles in May 2021 ABS and TCS Lights keep coming on now again at less than 49,000 miles. This is not an uncommon problem it seems, so I am adding my incident.
Aug 05, 2024
Intermittent MIL stating ABS and TCS service required, started has been going on since I bought the truck in January 2023 at about 50k miles (currently about 75k). Often happens when driving over any sort of uneven terrain - bumps, potholes, seams between concrete and asphalt surfaces, milled asphalt surfaces, speed bumps, debris, etc. Dealer says the ABS module needs to be replaced, and that there are none available. With some research, this appears to be a common/known issue for Ram trucks, but no recall and no effort to even manufacture the part so it can be fixed, regardless who is stuck with the bill. When this light comes on, neither 4WD nor cruise control function, which can cause safety concerns - especially while towing.
Jul 22, 2024
The ABS and Traction control lights began to flash and the alarm began to come on intermittently in 2021. I took the truck to the dealer for repairs because the ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control were not working. The repair cost was $1,00.00 at my expense. The problem has recently returned and is going to need repaired at my expense again. The ABS system not working causes a safety concern with stopping the vehicle. This is a know issue with these vehicles as such I feel it should be the manufactures responsibility for repairs.

The contact stated while the vehicle was parked and turned off on a slight incline with the keys outside of the vehicle, while the contact’s grandson was seated in the front seat, the contact’s grandson was able to move the gear shifter out of park(P), and the vehicle started rolling backwards. The contact's daughter who was putting a baby in the car seat in the rear seat, jumped to the front seat, depressed the brake pedal, and shifted to park(P) and the vehicle stopped rolling. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under an unknown related recall. The failure mileage was approximately 164,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30-35 MPH, the transmission became stuck in second gear and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate above 35 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact used a scanner and retrieved DTC codes for pressure and gear ratio faults. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist, and it was determined that the failure was due to the valve body and shift solenoid. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 105,369.

Over the last couple years the Service 4WD warning light would come on causing the vehicle to drive erratically. However this was intermittent and the light would go out after turning the truck off and then on again. Dealers could not diagnose the problem unless there was a code showing. Finally my local dealer found a stored code and diagnosed the problem as a failed front axle actuator.

The contact’s son-In-Law owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while her daughter was putting her grandchildren in the vehicle, her 2-year-old grandson, who was briefly left in an unknown front seat with the doors closed, pushed the gear shifter into drive (D) and the vehicle accelerated without applying the brakes. The vehicle crashed into a trailer filled with tools located 20-30 ft. away. The vehicle then crashed into the corner of a storage building and stopped. There were no injuries sustained. The air bags did not deploy. There was no police report filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V100000 (Power Train). The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under the recall in 2018; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

When I bought the truck (in Feb 2022), the dealership had just fixed the abs module. It had 87,000 miles on it when i bought it. About a year later (Feb 2023) it started dinging and flashing the abs error again. Shuts off or prevents cruise control from working, constantly dings and flashes the error while driving. Dodge said the part is on backorder and I'm waiting for them to be able to get it in to fix it.. .
Jun 02, 2023
Today while driving the vehicle, the ABS light came on and other lights followed. The vehicle began to loose power. Pulled in the driveway and the vehicle was trying to catch on fire. There was smoke coming from the hood and the front passenger tire was what appeared to be melted/ bent away from the truck. I was able to spray water on the truck engine and stop the smoke and heat. Once I was certain the truck was not burning, I contacted the local chief of police and met with him to make a report. I had the vehicle for about a month. I had just replaced my 2014 dodge diesel that ignited during the night on March 22,2022. After an extensive fire investigation from the insurance department was undetermined of the cause. The insurance company reached out to Dodge which insisted there have been no problems. That vehicle had been parked for 10 hours. I have researched the multiple incidents involving 2013-2021 dodge diesels which consist of parked vehicles and vehicles being driven that have ignited. This can not be a coincidence that I have had 2 dodge diesel 2500 trucks that have this happen in a matter of 2-3 months. I am now left to report another fire claim on my insurance. I need answers and Dodge should be looking into these incidents. I contacted dodge direct when this happened today and they took my information and said it would be forwarded to “Tamara” to investigate and of no surprise, no return call. I have spent a lot of time and money on now 2 diesels. Both vehicles were well maintained and this should not happen. I was at least able to detach the trailer this time, get the horses to safety, and remove my personal belongings. The previous incident burned a new Easley Gooseneck trailer and all my belongings, which weren’t covered my insurance. These incidents should be investigated before there is a serious injury or even worse a death.I am attaching pictures from both incidents.

The illumination of the ABS light and traction control light. The light actives intermittently. The reported problem from a vehicle code reader is “ ABS pump motor control general electrical failure”. With the lights illuminated, I am no longer able to use cruise control. Jul 15, 2024
On my truck my ABS and traction control light came on as well as a message that say to service ABS system. The parts are on back order for a year now. This problem has surfaced on many Ram 2500's. I contacted the dealer and they don't have parts to fix if. When driving in wet conditions especially while towing a trailer the wheels lock up while breaking. I've been towing going down hill and have had to use a combination of engine breaking, downshifting and feathering the brakes to slow down. Chrysler Fiat should issue a recall on this issue since it happens to many Ram 2500. This started when I had only 38k miles on my truck. Chrysler fiat has issued a recall for the 2019+ trucks but not the 2014-2018 which have the same exact problem. I'm hoping you can help this matter.

2017 Ram 2500. 24,000 miles While driving at any speed, warning lights and chime intermittently come on. Display reads "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service ABS". ABS and Traction Control lights also illuminate on the dash. Sometimes the chime will come on and off so fast that the truck is constantly chiming which is very. Sometimes the warning lights stay illuminated. Sometimes they go away. Sometimes they flash on a off rapidly. The ABS module and Hydraulic control unit have already been replaced under warranty at 15,000 miles. I have been waiting for the parts to repair for over 8 months (since August 2022) with a promised part mid April. Upon contacting servicing dealer Daimler Chrysler has put this part under “engineering review” AGAIN with a new ETA of sometime in August 2023 for part availability. Safety concern is improper braking while ABS component is active or constantly going in and out during normal driving or while towing under all road conditions.

Purchased this vehicle 8 months ago and from what I have been reading online this is an ongoing problem with Dodge Ram 2500 and this ABS module electrical issue is considered the most expensive part fixing the Dodge Ram, so how is it fair to the consumer to have to pay 3,000 for an electrical issue less than one year ago and only 35,000 miles on vehicle. There are thousands of post with the same complaint on the same year truck with the same issue. The Dodge Dealership said today that it is a safety issue because when we go to use our brakes quickly or for Emergency they will not work and they could lock up. we bought this vehicle to tow our fifth wheel. It makes me feel unsafe and not fair to have to feel this way. These days we can barely afford our vehicles and homes more less to have to pay for an electrical issue that is the cause of Dodge Ram and there Manufacture Issue. They need to be responsible for there faulty parts.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN RECALL REPAIR THAT REQUIRED WELDING THE ALIGNMENT BARS AND NUTS. THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE REPAIR WAS GOLDSTEIN CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (968 NEW LOUDON RD, LATHAM, NY 12110, (518) 785-4156). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS RECEIVING AN ALIGNMENT FROM AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE WELDING REPAIR WAS DISCOVERED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER BACK AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAD TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE FULL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT APPROVE ANY MORE REPAIRS AND TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT IF ANOTHER ALIGNMENT WAS NEEDED, IT WOULD BE HAMPERED BY THE PARTS BEING WELDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

I TOOK MY 2017 RAM 2500 INTO THE LOCAL DEALER, URSE DODGE, FOR A DRAGLINK RECALL. RAM'S REPAIR FOR DRAGLINK RECALL WAS TO WELD JAM NUTS. THE WELDING OF THE JAM NUTS COMPLETELY DISABLED THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE LINK FOR PURPOSES OF PROPER ALIGNMENT TO THE TRUCK. I HAVE TALKED TO RAM CUSTOMER CARE AND THE LOCAL DEALER URSE DODGE, BOTH URSE AND RAM CUSTOMER SERVICE CLAIM THAT WELDING THE IS THE RECALL REPAIR AS OF NOW. NOWHERE CAN I FIND ANY STATEMENTS OF A FINAL AND PERMANENT REPAIR COMING. I NOTICED TIRE WEAR ON MY TIRES AND TOOK THE TRUCK FOR AN ALIGNMENT TO NTB IN BRIDGEPORT WV. (I HAVE HAD MY TRUCK ALIGNED THERE ABOUT EVERY 5000 MILES FOR THE LAST YEAR, OR APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. TRUCK CURRENTLY HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT.) ON THIS OCCASION MY TRUCK WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT BUT NTB COULD NOT ADJUST IT BECAUSE URSE DODGE HAD WELDED THE JAM NUTS. I CALLED URSE, AND THEY MADE ME AN APPOINTMENT TO CHECK MY ALIGNMENT. ON MONDAY 7-1-2019 THE MECHANIC AT URSE DODGE CUT THE WELDS FROM THE JAM NUTS USING A DIE GRINDER, CUTTING TOOL, ALIGNED MY TRUCK, AND THEN TIGHTENED THE NUTS WITHOUT RE-WELDING THEM. THIS IN EFFECT "UN-REPAIRED" MY RECALL. MY CONCERN IS, 1. THE ORIGINAL WELDING AND THE HEAT AND OTHER REACTIONS TO THE JAM NUTS HAVE WEAKENED AND STRESSED THE METAL IN BOTH THE JAM NUTS AND THE ADJUSTING SLEEVE THE NUTS WERE WELDED TO. 2. THE CUTTING AND REMOVING THE WELD, WITH THE HEAT AND THE PHYSICAL DAMAGE INVOLVED IN REMOVING THE WELD, HAS FURTHER WEAKENED AND STRESSED THE METAL. 3. THE DRAGLINK IS NOT ABLE TO PERFORM TO IT'S ORIGINAL ENGINEERED DESIGN WITH THIS WELDED FIX. 4. THIS "FIX" WILL COST CONSUMERS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OVER TIME REPLACING NOT ONLY THESE ALTERED DRAGLINKS, BUT TIRES THAT WEAR BECAUSE OF THE INABILITY TO ADJUST THE ALIGNMENT TO SPECIFICATIONS. 5. THIS TEMPORARY REPAIR COMPROMISES THE SAFETY OF THESE VEHICLES. *BF *DT*JB

DURING A RECALL SERVICE OF MY RAM TRUCK AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE SHOWED EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE OUTER LAYER. BOUGHT, AND GOT 4 NEW TIRES INSTALLED. GOT ALIGNMENT. TRUCK LEANS NOTICEABLE TO THE FRONT RIGHT. ALIGNMENT PERSON TOLD THAT TRUCK HAS A SUSPENSION PROBLEM.
Feb 05, 2019
VEHICLE WAS IN FOR SERVICE AND MECHANIC INFORMED ME OF FRONT TIRES ARE CUPPING SIGNIFICANTLY. THEY INFORMED ME THIS IS NOT NEW FOR A NEW TRUCK. TOOK THE TRUCK TO DODGE THEY TOLD ME IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL IF YOU DON'T ROTATE TIRES ENOUGH. THIS IS VERY INCONSISTENT. I DID ROTATE TIRES BUT WITHIN 5000 MILE PROBLEM. REPRESENTS ITSELF AND TIRES HAVE TO BE REBALANCE TO OFF SET UNEVEN WEAR.

THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM REQUIRES I HAVE 60 PSI IN THE FRONT TIRES AND 80 PSI IN THE REAR TIRES. UNLESS I HAVE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT LOADED IN THE PICKUP BOX, THE REAR TIRES ARE OVER-INFLATED AT 80 PSI. THIS OVER-INFLATED CONDITION CAUSES A RAPID WEARING OF THE REAR TIRES. MY REAL CONCERN THOUGH, IS THAT THE OVER-INFLATED CONDITION CAUSE THE TIRES TO LOSE TRACTION UNEXPECTEDLY DURING WET OR ICY CONDITIONS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY VEHICLE HAS BECOME 'SQUIRRELLY' WHILE I WAS JUST DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. MY DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THE PRESSURE IS SET AT THE FACTORY AND CAN NOT BE CHANGED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THAT REMOVING THE PRESSURE SENSORS WOULD CAUSE MY DASH GAUGES TO INDICATE I HAD NO PRESSURE IN THE TIRES. THIS OVER-INFLATED TIRE PRESSURE SITUATION IS CAUSING A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION, NOT ONLY TO MYSELF BUT TO OTHERS AS WELL. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE FIXED. THIS IS A ONGOING SITUATION BUT IS ESPECIALLY HAZARDOUS DURING WINTER MONTHS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFLATED TO 63 PSI, WHICH PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM FISHTAILING WHEN TRAVELING OVER ROUGH TERRAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DEFLATING THE TIRE PRODUCED A FAULT CODE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE MANUFACTURER REQUIRED THE OVER INFLATION OF THE TIRE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR DECAL STATED THAT THE TIRE MAX TIRE PRESSURE WAS 60. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,700.

Recall for the drag link on this series of 2500 trucks calls for welding an adjustable part of the steering linkage - the drag link jam nuts, rendering that part non-adjustable. Once welded, to then perform an alignment the welds would need to be carefully ground off, alignment work performed, and then once again everything re-torqued and welded back in place per the recall advisory steps. Also consider the effects of welding, grinding, and welding again and again over the life of this HD truck. An alignment is critical to towing thousands of pounds, pulling to the side and overcorrecting while towing a load because a simple alignment is no longer possible is arguably just as dangerous as the original issue attempted to be mitigated (loss of steering). The correct fix for this safety issue is to replace this drag link component, not render the truck unusable. A new drag link without this issue has been engineered and made available for sale, but my VIN says its not eligible for it as a covered recall repair. This is an OEM design failure with a short-sighted workaround that renders the vehicle useless over time; seems ridiculous for the customer to be financially responsible for this failure. Attached photo is of the welded, "recall completed", drag link on my now horribly misaligned truck.

MULTIPLE repetitive ABS/HCU failures starting in 2022. Truck has for the most part been sitting since then due to unavailability of parts, reengineering of parts and now again lack of availability of parts. Should we have encountered an emergency braking situation we would could have experienced, increased stopping distance, loss of steering control and significantly reduced traction. This ABS/HCU also causes us to lose trailer brake controller and our truck is primarily for towing. Which is why ABS was mandated for all vehicles in 2011.

I purchased my 2017 Ram 2500 truck new in October of 2017 from Champion Dodge in Gulfport, MS. Since then, I have been experiencing a reoccurring problem with the truck's ABS braking system. I have had the truck in the shop repairs on this ABS system five times since I have owned the truck. The first two repairs were covered under warranty, the next two visits I had to pay for, and the fifth visit, I was told they can't repair the truck and parts would not be available until maybe April of 2024. The trucks ABS braking system warning lights continuously flash and alarm making the truck almost unusable. I am also not sure if the truck is even safe to drive with this system malfunctioning. I feel this has to be a recall or something. I feel that Dodge/Ram should repair this truck at no cost to me. I will try to add all documentation to this submission. Any assistance you can proved me would be appreciated.

I own a 2017 Ram the electronic breaking system light kept coming on when I had about 34000 miles on it but I had it over the 3 year period for warranty. Paid dealership about $1200.00 to get it fixed. Again at about 45,000 miles it started it again. Checked with dealer said it would cost about $1400.00 to get corrected and they would have to wait for parts. I see a lot of others have had the same problem with that model. I feel as lot of others, this should be a recall item. Also cruise control want work when light is on. Ram is going to wait until someone has a wreck and a fatality before they do anything about this issue. Also there will be a class action suit against them and they will be plenty follow. Hope how soon Ram decides to honor this defective issue.

While driving down the road my vehicles ABS and Traction control light go on and off, most of the time the lights are stuck on. Causing the vehicle to not have ABS and traction control during the rain and snow months of the year an further more the cruise control does not work. At this point the truck is unsafe to drive in all conditions as it does not retain its safety braking systems, I will not put my family in the vehicle. Moving forward ask my local Ram dealer about the repairs and they say they can not get the parts they have been on back order.

My airbags failed to deploy. The cab on my truck was shifted more than 2 inches off the frame and was a total loss since the original repair estimate was more than $43,000. The reporting firemen and paramedics and the repair shop all could not believe that the air bags did not deploy. My passenger and I are still suffering from injuries sustained in the accident, which are likely much worse because of the failure of the airbags to deploy.

Service ABS Electronic Braking System Message, ABS as well as Traction Control light intermittently coming on and shutting off, Sometimes staying illuminated awhile then going back to coming on Intermittently. Took to shop and ran diagnostic trouble codes on truck. The trouble codes saying ABS/HCU Pump Module Electrical Failure. Recommended fix is to replace ABS Pump Module. I am aware of the class action lawsuit and this same issue on most all 2017-2018 Ram 2500 trucks. The problem I am presented with now is, The ABS Pump Module is on national back order which is making it extremely difficult to find a replacement. I am now left with a truck that is unsafe to drive as a father and husband due to the vehicles Antilocking Brake System not functioning at all as well as the Traction Control System not functioning at all. Due to these issues when I am forced to operate the truck for commute to and from work and day to day purposes I am now putting my family, myself and everyone on the road at risk as there is no immediate solution to the problem at hand. This is wildly unacceptable just as well as it is wrong in every aspect to be put in the position that I could possibly injure or kill another family on the road simply because this issue is going through political channels and I have not other option but to continue to operate the vehicle for day to day life.

Brake error and traction control error on dash. It is available for inspection. Not sure if it is safe but we have not options. This started several years ago. We have looked at ordering parts and tried to make appointment at dealer but parts were out of stock. We have not ever taken it in to the dealer as this happened literally 2 weeks after our warranty expired. No one has inspected it. There were not any other warnings prior and the vehicle seems to function but it is annoying driving it as the warning goes off all the time. I know they recently recalled newer Dodge Rams for this same type of issue but seem to be refusing to recall the older models for those of us that have been waiting and hoping nothing safety wise happens. It is a well knows issue and there are class action suits in other states.

I CALLED DEALER AND THEY SAY ITS A COMMON THING THAT HAPPENS AND THERE IS CURRENTLY NO FIX. THEY ARE CALLING IT ""DEAD PEDAL"" RAM HAS TO HAVE A FIX FOR THIS. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE HEARD A EGR DELETE AND TUNE WILL FIX THE ISSUE. EGR DELETE IS ILLEGAL IN MY STATE AND I DO NOT WANT TO MODIFY MY VEHICLE FROM FACTORY SPECS. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION AND RAM NEEDS TO MAKE A FIX FOR THE ISSUE.

Abs light comes on and disables the cruise controls. Says abs brake failure and I have researched this and found it is a common problem. 6 speed Transmission is turning on check engine light and says gear 5 and gear 6 has improper ratio. Shifts hard into gear5 and won't downshift for passing gear.

My dash will randomly start flashing the messages "service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system". Sometimes this happens as soon as I start the vehicle, other times it happens while driving down the road. Sometimes it seems as if a bump in the road will trigger the messages, others are random. When the messages are there, the traction control feature does not work. I do not know if the abs system will work or not as I have been lucky enough to not have to test that. Also, while the messages are present, the cruise control function will not work.

TIRES
3 complaints
While traveling westbound on I-64 at highway speed (~65 MPH), I experienced a complete tire failure of the driver's side front fire. It was first experienced as severe front-end vibration that made control of the vehicle difficult; there were no warnings or other indications of imminent failure. Fortunately, I was able to get the vehicle to the roadway's shoulder without injury or accident. Upon exiting the vehicle, I noticed that the left front tire was flat, and a portion of the tire's tread was protruding above the surface of the tire. Because of vehicle's location/proximity to the interstate, both vehicle occupants were at risk of serious injury if a crash were to occur; the vehicle was also a hazard to passing traffic. Minimizing some risks, we were assisted on scene by the Virginia State Police as well as a VDOT Motorist Assist vehicle until the vehicle was able to be towed away. Tire information: COOPER Discoverer AT3 285/60/20 purchased on 10 July 2021 Mileage at time of installation 56,707, mileage at time of failure 78,622 total miles on tire: 21,915 Tire is available for inspection

During a routine tire rotation, the service technician advised me that the brake calipers appeared to be swelling when heating up and were cutting grooves into the wheels. He proceeded to show me the damage and indicated that this could result in a catastrophic event if not corrected. I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership and informed them of the issue. It was looked at and agreed that was the problem. I was advised to contact the manufacturer to start a claim. So far, that is of no benefit. They are basically telling me that until a catastrophic event occurs, there is nothing they will do. I am still trying to get them to cover it. These are all factory parts and I am the sole owner of the vehicle.

The Hydraulic Control Unit and the Anti-lock brake module on my 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel truck is going out. It has 84,000 miles on this truck. This is very costly to repair and Ram knows it is a problem! It is also very dangerous for the brakes to be an issue on any vehicle, but especially on one that has a heavy front end as diesel trucks do. The braking system must be reliable to stop the truck itself. This truck was built and designed to pull trailers and as a work truck. It is very dangerous to consider that these 2 components are not working when pulling a loaded trailer which depends on the braking system as well to stop the vehicle. I am also enclosing several websites to show you that Ram knows there is a problem but hasn't issued a recall on the problem. One of these sites is a Ram forum that shows many people are dealing with this issue. https://www.ramforumz.com/threads/abs-hcu-replacement.276340/ https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/3rd-generation-ram-non-drivetrain-all-years-101/abs-cab-hcu-replacement-218820/ Thank you for your time! Had certified preowned truck aligned after purchase and shop could not adjust front end to stop pull to the right. Took it back to the dealer and they replaced a drag link (but tech said it had nothing to do with the pull) and the second time they rotated front tires left to right. Still pulls to right. Googled problem and I find that it is a common problem with Ram trucks but requires an after market install of ball joints to be able to adjust for the pull. Overheard a service writer who stated “ you can’t align a Ram”.

The check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the Ram service center. The tech said the turbo actuator caused the light to go on. He reset the computer and said to bring the vehicle back if it comes on again. About 1 month later it reappeared. The Ram service said the turbo charger actuator needed replacing (the complete turbocharger). They said the failure could result in a total loss of power or engine failure. I tow a 10,000 lb trailer and an engine failure on the road could result in an accident or injury due to no power from the engine. The part can be viewed for inspection.

When I have gone to slow down and try to stop, the vehicle has slide forward a fee times. I thought it was a little weird, but didn't think to much of it. After a while, my transmission started acting up as well. I will be driving down the road about 50-60mph and it will shift to 4th gear and not come out of 4th gear until stopped and shut off and restarted. I recently heard about the recall when I took my truck to the dealership that is close to where I am located at the moment. I decided to research about the recall and what could happen if that part fails. It showed me that if the recalled part fails, it will cause all the problems that is going on with my truck. I am a full-time rv'er and trailer the country pulling an rv everywhere I go. I am stuck where I am until my truck can be fixed of these problems. This is a major setback and a major financial burden to have to stay where I am until it is fixed. I am near Thomson, GA where I am waiting to have my vehicle fixed.

My truck is a 2017 Ram 2500 and is experiencing the same issues as those included in NHTSA Recall No. 24V-896. However my truck was produced before the April 1, 2017 range listed. I have replaced the HCU as recommended by the dealer on [XXX] at my own cost and this did not resolve the issue. The dealer says the control module is faulty, but Chrysler will not provide the part as they say the HCU I purchased is in the Faulty range also but they say that even though the part I purchased to correct the issue is under recall, my truck is not and they have not responded to my request to correct the issue. This is a safety concern as it affects ABS, TSC, Parking Assist sensors and most importantly prevents the vehicles 4WD system from engaging which is an extreme safety concern in the mountains of North Carolina in winter. I have been trying to fix the problem at my own cost for a year and a half and the gross negligence on the part of Chrysler and Stellantis will not even allow me to purchase the needed parts. Issue a recall here! Many others are reporting this identical issue and a class action suit has been filed! ABS sensor light and chime comes on at random times. My truck just reached 100,000 miles. I've performed no troubleshooting but it is extremely intermittent, either the Service the Automatic or Service the Electronic Braking System(s). Usually, a bump in the road makes it come and another turns it off. Sometimes it happens so quickly, only the message and traction control disabled light comes on, sometimes only the chime comes in. Sometimes the message stays up and the brake warning and traction control light comes on, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes a couple of seconds. To compound the problem, there appears to be an issue in sourcing replacement parts resulting in a delay in repair. A delay in repair could result in a additional damage to the vehicle, not using the vehicle (not an option) or ultimately an accident. Also can’t use cruise control when it’s displaying.

This is preventative for myself but multiple others have been affected by this manufacturing issue. The factory grid heater has a bolt and stud on the bottom side of it. From heat and deterioration the bolt has a tendency to fall off, which then sends it through the intake manifold where it winds up inside cylinder #6. At around 80k miles, started getting the service anti-lock brake system, electronic braking system alarms. Traction control light and abs light are on permanently now. What's funny is that now the rear parking sensor failed which makes me wonder if all this in the electrical system is tied together. Dealer said it was the hydraulic control unit. That did not fix it. Next it was a wheel speed sensor. That did not fix it. Then it was abs module but it is "discontinued." In other words, Chrysler knows there is a major issue and NEEDS to issue a recall but hasn't yet! I have over a grand in this and it's not fixed. Dealer said that they don't know what the fix is. Please issue a recall!

ABS module unit replaced while under warranty. Vehicle again with ABS warning on/off intermittently for at least the last several months...regardless of weather, speed, road conditions, etc. Comes on and off while driving, sitting in a parking lot...pretty much as soon as I turn on the motor it starts...goes off again for several minutes/hours/days, then starts doing the blinking and dinging again for no reason. While traveling, it turns off cruise control and I have lost 4 wheel drive when I've desperately needed it. This vehicle is only used for long distance travel or during snow storms. This is a safety issue, in my opinion. Causes operational malfunction and causes driver distraction.

Intermittent “service ABS system” light on dash resulting in loss of ABS, cruise control, park-sense, and 4x4. No amount of troubleshooting from a reputable diesel mechanic has been able to fix this. Service antilock braking system and service electric braking system constantly flashes off and on as if there is a short and all I can do apparently (according to the dealer) is replace the module which is Astronomically priced! Apparently there are a lot of people having this issue. As far as the steering it has been loose since the beginning as there is 2½" of play and everyone blames the steering box but I have invested way to much chasing the problem with no luck.

Traction control/ ABS light consistently chiming on and off. Took to local dealer where I bought the truck from, diagnosed a bad ABS hydraulic control unit. They can’t get the part due to the amount of these rams needing this part replaced. Multiple forums of Rams stating the exact same thing, could be dangerous to drive if you are counting on your ABS to work properly in an emergency.

I have dash lights going on and off for the ABS and traction control. This is very intermitted. On two occasions I have experienced times where I had to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident. Both times the ABS failed to work causing me to come to near collision with another vehicle. One of the times this caused me to go off into a ditch. This was with slick roads and snow covered in areas. Have also had several times the truck would steer out of control with no traction aid. I am constantly losing speed control using cruise control. It will work for a bit and then turn off when the ABS and traction control lights come on.

ABS module and hydraulic control units replaced in 2019, after driving the truck less than 20k miles the exact same issues have returned. Truck is out of warranty now, no cruise control, ABS, or traction control. Very common issue amongst 2017-2018 Rams. Second issue happened recently when temps dropped below freezing. DEF system fault - DEF injector checked for crystallization. No crystals - truck will go into limp mode rendering it useless due to an inferior component manufacture is aware of and have addressed on new models but have not afforded older models a solution.

The vehicle randomly goes into 4WD without the user turning the knob to request 4WD. If this happens at high speed it will cause severe damage to the vehicle drive train. Makes steering extreemly difficult on pavement. 1. Service 4WD lamp illuminates. 2. Reduced speed and exited highway. 3. Steered vehicle to off ramp. Upon steering left vehicle entered 4WD without user request making steering very difficult. Vehicle would not return to 2WD unless user shut down vehicle, turn knob to 4WD then back to 2WD. Investigated by certified RAM technician at a dealership on 5/11/2]22 who could not find the issue. The dealership cleared the truck for ordinary use. Currently the vehicle status is service 4WD light is on and it will not shift to 4WD or 2WD. 2 incidents one in 1 June 2021 2 September 2022
