Dealer has not responded to written requests to perform federally mandated Recall Y78 on my 2019 Ram 2500 (VIN: [XXX] ). I have been told recall work may be declined due to an insurance claim or vehicle history references. No manufacturer directive has been provided. I am requesting NHTSA review of recall nonperformance. Dealership is Hendrick Ram of Cary NC INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I had recall work done on my truck on 3/2023- it is not listed on your website that anything has been fixed on my truck. My truck quit working 5/2023 and has been at my personal shop since then. They ended up doing the same work as the recall that was performed on 3/2023 and is not working still. I looked up on the website and our vehicle is showing no recalls were done on this truck. The dealership is having me jump through hoops to have them take the vehicle back to try to fix the recall that my personal dealership said was wrong with the vehicle.

RE: "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. This recall was issued in November 2022. My local dealer, Carson Dodge in Carson City, Nevada, will not honor the recall and will not fix my vehicle. I have repeatedly asked for the repair and keep getting blown off, telling me I'm on an indefinite waiting list. I insisted once to confirm I am on the waiting list and where I am at. I was told my car would be repaired in February 2023. February came and went and they still refuse to repair the car or provide a date when the repair might be possible. The fuel pump has now failed and the car has been dead in my driveway for a week and a half. I am without my primary means of transportation to get to work. Calls and emails to the service manager at Carson Dodge have been ignored and unanswered. I am reaching out to you to request assistance. The dealer will not fix the car and will not communicate with me. The car is non-operational now and will have to be towed. I desperately need my vehicle and I am respectfully requesting assistance with a recalcitrant dealership.

We bought our truck in November 22, 2022, used certified pre-owned with 22135 miles, On 12/27/2022 message code came on water in fuel tank. 12/29/2022 dealership service helped us to drain fuel filters and cleared the code. 12/30/2022 same code came back. 1/8/2023. Truck broke down with a major total fuel system damaged. Parts were ordered, but repairs did not start yet. Everyone is trying to say it is a user error. We refilled DEF liquid correctly after which the gage showed was almost full. Dealership was blaming bad diesel was used, but as a consumer how in the world will i know which brand or company: they all are governed to sell proper diesel. We only drove about 3000 miles. There's no way possible for such to happen. Dealership told us ok to drive and keep refilling fresh diesel. We learned that there was already a recall for fuel system back in September of 2022. Supposedly if diligently and correctly it was taken care of, this same problem should have not come back at least for the next 10000+ miles. We only put on about 3000 miles from the date of purchase. Also according to inspection of dealership and service history, they also replaced fuel filters in October of 2022. Truck broke down even before our first payment was to be due. Currently our truck is not drivable and we are in 7 yrs loan. Absolutely ridiculous. There must of been a hidden tank leak that caused fuel contamination. Dealership where our truck is confirmed DEF liquid was mixed with diesel gas and a corrosion around some parts. Please help us! This is a nightmare. Thank you so much in advance!

I have been trying for a year to get my recall performed. When I go to the dealer they say there is no parts available and I should contact FCA Recall Assistance. When I call FCA Recall Assistance they say parts are available and that I should try a different dealer. I have tried 3 dealerships and no one will fix the recall. I can't even register the vehicle because in California recalls need to be performed for registration. I do not know who else to turn to.

The sway bar keeps disconnecting or becomes unoperatable during extreme cold days. It's like it becomes frozen. You have to wait until the temperature warms up and it will go away. How is one supposed to use this on the Power Wagon in places where we get cold weather, and need to travel off road and utilize the sway bar disconnect normally if it keeps not being available to disconnect in cold weather. It has been in dealership several times for this and repaired twice by replacement. The dealership cant figure out why it happens so they just replaced the parts and send you on your way after waiting weeks to get fixed.

Ram has ignored this recall NHTSA Recall#21v-880 /Y78 for the high pressure fuel pump in my 2019 Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel on several occasions. i contacted my dealer and they said they would order the new pump and they can only be allocated 2 pumps a week if they can get one. my dealer called a few weeks later and said they have a pump for recall and scheduled me a time slot to bring ram in. i did and halfway through the day the service manager called and said they went to do the new pump recall and FCA/Ram noticed them to not install the new replacement pump and gave no reason. my service advisor he was not given a reason from FCA and he said for me to contact FCA directly. i did and they gave me the run around and could not answer why they had the new replacement pump and did not allow my dealer to install. i have been so frustrated to the run around i searched for FCA rams inner chain email format and sent 3 emails to the top three heads for FCA north America and wouldn't you know it a lady called me personally and said that the head of FCA NA assigned her to me to get to the bottom of this. well its been a month and still no answer from FCA. i feel that they are playing Russian roulette with the recall on the 2019 ram 2500 cummins turbo diesels. my question to NTSB is if my ram stalls on rail road tracks and i get hit by a train is FCA liable for the death /injury of the occupants? thanks [XXX] cell [XXX] PS i could not find a form or way to submit and complaint about the recall so that is why this correspondence is happening. Rear window mass water leak. Ram currently has a recall for certain models leaking rear window (spoke to Ram and my vehicle does not fall under the recall). There is also a class action lawsuit regarding the leaking rear windows on Ram. My concern is an electrical fire as I am driving due to the amount of water I found in the cab. As well as the mold and oder it's going to create.

On June 26, 2024 during a long road trip, the vehicle lost power repeatedly in the middle of an area with no road service. It put my safety and that of my passenger at risk on the highway as losing power suddenly causes danger in fast-moving traffic causing the risk of potential collisions with other vehicles. There was no warning lamp indicating the failure would occur. To this date, the dealer has not fixed the issue. After approximately three weeks, I picked up the vehicle after it as allegedly repaired (at that time the dealer stated it was an electrical issue). The vehicle failed again not more than one-half mile from the Omak Dodge service center placing my safety at risk yet again. I managed to get the vehicle back to the service center at which time, the dealer stated after consultation with RAM technical support, that the issue was a failure in the fuel system. The dealer claims that the problem was the failure of a fuel injector/pump that caused particulate matter to contaminate the entire fuel system. Being that it was allegedly a power train failure, it was to have been covered under the power train warranty. After approximately three months of delay, the dealer stated the truck was repaired. On arriving at the dealer to pick up the truck, the dealer stated it wasn't repaired and had an exhaust issue. The truck remains at the dealer to this date, October 25, 2024. The dealer states that the exhaust issue is yet another issue with the truck that is covered under a warranty voluntarily extended to 10 years by RAM.

I’ve been waiting for a recall fix for the Y78 on my Ram Cummins. My dealer keeps saying they only get in a couple of the high pressure fuel pumps every few weeks. I’ve started the process back in December with no estimated wait time other than it will be many months before they fix it. I know many people who have but a direct replacement pump that will remedy the problem and have been reimbursed for parts and labor. My really helpful dealer this morning told me to contact NHTSA and file a complaint about how to go about the reimbursement process to get it fixed myself or provide me other options to get it fixed. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been having issues starting my truck when I took it in they said it was an ecu reflags needed. I believe it is an open recall y78 for over a year and they do not have the part. But my truck all of a sudden loss power on the freeway doing 65 my wife and daughter started crying I barely made it to the edge of the freeway with being hit within inches of a semi truck. We sat on the side of the freeway with trucks passing us shaking our truck from the wind. Finally I had to call Chp to have cars slow down when it became night time I fears for the safety of my wife and daughter. Yes the issue now is it won’t start at all but they are telling me go somewhere else it could take 2-3 months to fix the issue. No one inspected it yet just that it wouldn’t start. It was continuously having power surges but too light. Then all of a sudden loss power and it says service exhaust system see dealer.

The surface on the front dash has separated from the component underneath. It is bubbled up and no longer glued to the underneath dash piece. It does not currently block driver's view but it could completely separate in the future causing the driver not to be able to see out of the front windshield. This is a widely reported and complained about issue on-line, primarily on year models 2019 through 2021. RAM has refused to do anything about it and extended warranties refuse to cover it in most cases stating that "it is a trim component that is designed to wear out and be replaced at the owner's expense." I object to this assessment of a dash as no other vehicle I have owned in 40+ years has done this. And my vehicles are always garaged and well maintained.

Leaking anti freeze from back of motor
Mar 10, 2025
Initially I witnessed a large volume of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe when pulling up to fuel pump. A passer-by informed me that there were flames underneath the truck on the passenger side. I then got out of truck, stooped down to look underneath, and observed a hose leading from the exhaust system on fire and multiple exhaust components glowing red hot. After getting my passenger out of the truck I got back in, put it in drive and pulled forward away from the fuel pumps and made it about forty feet before truck engine stalled. I then proceeded to get a fire extinguisher from the fuel pump lanes and extinguish the fire and directed the remaining agent at the hotspots to cool them. After the fire department ensured the vehicle was safe to move it was towed to the local RAM dealership where it is now awaiting service technicians to inspect the damage after the weekend.

SYMPTOM: Driver side vanity mirror light and garage door (homelink) stop working with a short time period where they will work if held in a certain position. This is the second time this has happened, with the first time being under warranty (mileage estimated at 32000). I am well past warranty period. I disassembled the visor to find 2 frayed wires and a wire that has been severed at the point they entered the visor chamber from the guide tube (IMG_1819, IMG_1817, IMG-1821, &IMG-1820). In my opinion there is a flaw in the exit port that cause the wires rub against a relatively sharp tube edge as the visor is extended/retracked with no exit relieve, just some thin ineffective cloth tape, obiviously. FYI, the wires were pulled through the rod to better expose the damage. You can see some blackish residue on the wires of that thin cloth tape that was peeled back to view the damage (IMG_1817 & IMG_1822). While the images do not show it, the wires were routed through the channels of the visor caps as evident in curved cables in IMG_1821. My concern is that the frayed wires will cause a fire, personal shock or short circuit the vehicle while in operation, regardless of being a fused circuit. None of which has happened in my case. The visor has been replaced in the vehicle but NOT connected to power and as of this submission is available for inspection if needed. I have not contacted MFR

Continuation to NHTSA ID # 11511305 Adding some more details and photos of the Fire. (2019 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins Diesel engine) This is to describe the time frame from the start of the vehicle to when the fire department put out the fire. I have a store receipt that time stamps my checkout time at 2:11p CT, from the time I left the store, loaded my purchases into the truck, started and drove the car a very short distance, when the smoke started to pour out of the inside ventilation system, I pulled the truck over to the side of the road, got out of the truck and called 911 (time stamped from my phone was 2:29p CT. (18 minutes from checkout to 911 call. I Took a picture of the truck after the fire department put out the fire (time stamped 2:38p CT (9 minutes from the start of the 911 call). Adding some pictures of the burnt-out truck. What shows is that the fender on the driver’s side took the brunt of the heat, where all the electrical systems reside. Telling me that this was the main section that started on fire (possibility that the Heater Grid). This was definitely an electrical fire, given the smell and smoke that poured into the truck. I know there is a current recall by the auto maker. I think they should re-evaluate they years that this recall should affect, since my 2019 has the same parts used as the 2021-2023’s. Given the pictures below and the disaster that this caused, we were pretty lucky that it was just me and my wife in the vehicle. We were able to find a spot to pull over so it wouldn’t affect other traffic. What if we were stuck on a highway, in traffic, pulling a trailer in a rural area, who knows what else could have happened. The stress of this is overwhelming, something that I will relive over and over again. Photos and Fire Report attached.

Parked vehicle for a week in driveway. Sometime during that week side curtain airbag inflator unit exploded causing significant damage to the roof and interior of the truck. Vehicle was powered off and was not involved in a collision when this incident occurred. Vehicle was not included in the recall for this problem and I was never notified this could be an issue. If there had been a passenger in the rear seat they would have likely been severely injured by the explosion of the inflator.

The dash leather is bubbling up across the entire top of dash. With this happening it causes a huge concern over airbag deployment. Due to the dash cover being weakened from the bubbling, if I were to get into an accident with a passenger then the airbag would have less restriction for deployment which could cause further harm to my passenger. Manufacture is not covering under warranty because they say it is cosmetic and not a safety concerns. My concern is that I believe the dash should be 100% intact before driving down the road due to the possibility of an accident occurring.
Sep 26, 2023
I was driving on the highway and was rear ended by another vehicle which lifted the back end of my truck from the ground. Both side air bags deployed. I was wearing a hoodie at the time and the airbag deployment caused my hoodie to catch on fire. There was not an open flame for me to know it was burning. Instead, it smoldered and burnt my hoodie material. I could feel the underside of my arm stinging and the holes in my sleeve, but believed that it was a result of the airbag hitting my arm and causing essentially a bad carpet burn. However, this caused second degree burns to the bottom side of my arm near my arm pit. I discovered after the incident that airbag deployment is assisted by gunpowder. I am not sure if this is what caused my hoodie to catch fire. I also discovered that 2021-2022 Rams recently had a recall on Side Airbags due to improperly compressed air. My truck is a 2019 however, so I'm not sure if that recall should be expanded to include additional years.

In August 2020, while I was driving my vehicle at approximately 15 mph, with approximately 13,500 miles on the odometer, I noticed that the vehicle's transmission gauge was about 230-240 degrees. I pulled over and smelled smoke. Luckily, my passengers and I were able to get out of the vehicle. The vehicle was completely destroyed. I have video showing flames coming out of the passenger side engine compartment. I had previously taken my vehicle in for repair for recall W03 to have the transmission valve body replaced so the transmission wouldn't cause an engine fire. FCA had an expert inspect the vehicle and he found that "fire progression appears to be from engine compartment thru entire vehicle terminating at rear truck bed," that "possible source of ignition is hot surface of turbocharger/exhaust components. - Most likely method of ignition is transmission fluid expelled from dipstick tube," "origin appears to be in the engine compartment," and "possible cause appears to be transmission fluid expelled from dipstick tube onto turbocharger/exhaust components. The determination of possible cause is based on: 1. Owner/driver's description of events. 2. Transmission of dipstick is extended ~ 27.0 inch from the fill tube." Despite this, FCA refused to pay me for my destroyed vehicle (or the trailer that it destroyed) because: "After the inspection of your vehicle, the information at hand would not permit us to associate the fire with a manufacturing or assembly error. We are sure you will understand fires of this nature can and do occur for a number of reasons not associated with the manufacturing process. Therefore, we must respectfully decline any assistance associated with this matter. Based on this, we suggest that you refer this matter to your insurance carrier . . ." I already had the transmission fire recall performed and my truck still blew up. Luckily, I was not injured. I am worried that if FCA does not do another recall, other trucks will blow up too.

I PURCHASED A 2019 RAM 2500 TRUCK, AND BEGAN HAVING ISSUE WITH THE TRUCK DROPPING INTO NEUTRAL AT JUST OVER 1000 MILES. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED CODES, BUT I DIDN'T MAKE SURE THEY DOCUMENTED IT. IT SEEMED TO ONLY HAPPEN WHEN GOING IN REVERSE AND TURNING, SO I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT. THEN AT 6670 MILES IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND IN AN INTERSECTION. I HAD COME TO A STOP AT A LIGHT, THEN WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PROCEEDED TO TURN RIGHT. I GOT ABOUT 10 FEET INTO THE TURN AND THE TRUCK ACTED LIKE IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE MESSAGE THAT WAS ON THE DASH STATED SHIFT INTO PARK, THEN INTO DESIRED GEAR. I DID AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A PARKING SPOT OF A NEARBY BUSINESS. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN AND THEY OPENED A STAR CASE. EVENTUALLY THEY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY AND REPROGRAMMED SEVERAL THINGS. THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. AT 9059 MILES IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS BACKING INTO A DRIVEWAY SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT MY PHONE AND TAKE A VIDEO OF THE FLASHING LIGHT OVER THE SHIFTER AND IN THE CLUSTER. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 1/13/2020 WITH 1520 MILES ON VEHICLE. THE INCIDENT IN THE INTERSECTION HAPPENED ON 5/21/2020 WITH 6670 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE LAST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 7/7/2020 WITH 9059 MILES ON THE ODOMETER.

The tailgate has issues closing and the supports meaning the wire that supports the tailgates when it is deployed one will have tension on it and the other is loose. The tailgate support cables are the same length. I think it has to do with the bed being worked. I have reported it to Huffines dodge dealer and they said there is no fix. The tale gate has opened when in use due to the latch / tail gate not closing correctly because of the out of square bed.

OUR TAILGATE HAS OPENED ON ITS OWN 4 TIMES WHILE WE WERE DRIVING SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. IT ALSO HAS SHOWN A NOTIFICATION ON THE DASH THAT THE TAILGATE IS OPEN, BUT WHEN CHECKED IT IS CLOSED. I HAVE A VIDEO OF THIS, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN UPLOAD IT. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN LATE 2019 AND THE FIRST EVENT WAS IN MARCH 2020, AND IT CAUSED SCRATCHES ON THE PLASTIC TOP PART OF THE TAILGATE, AS IT HIT THE TONGUE JACK OF OUR CAMPER. THE FIRST TIME, WE THOUGHT MAYBE WE HADN'T CLOSED IT HARD ENOUGH, SO WE HAVE ALWAYS MADE A POINT TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SHUT TIGHT. THE SECOND TIME WAS ON MARCH 14, 2020. THE THIRD TIME WAS JUNE 20, 2020 AND IT CAUSED DAMAGE TO OUR TAILGATE. WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT MAKING A TURN AND THE TAILGATE OPENED, HITTING THE PROPANE TANK OF OUR TOW BEHIND CAMPER. IT DENTED THE TAILGATE AND DAMAGED THE PROPANE TANK. I HAPPENED AGAIN ON JULY 18, 2020. IT OPENS ON ITS OWN, AND IT IS INTERMITTENT. I KNOW THAT IT HAPPENED ONCE WHEN WE WERE TURNING AND DRIVING UNDER 10 MPH, BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN/WHY THE BODY DAMAGE HAPPENED. THIS CREATES AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION AS WELL BECAUSE SOMETHING COULD FALL FROM OUR TRUCK BED IF THE TAILGATE OPENS WHILE WE ARE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, POSSIBLY KILLING SOMEONE OR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WE HAVE REPORTED IT TO CHRYSLER TWICE (MOST RECENT CASE NUMBER 76765917). WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN TWICE TO THE DEALER AFTER IT HAPPENED (MOST RECENTLY ON 7/22/2020). AND THEY CANNOT REPLICATE IT SO NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. CHRYSLER ADVISED ME TO CONTACT CORPORATE VIA LETTER.

The touch screen is delaminating. Due to the delaminating the truck randomly calls people, randomly turns functions on/off, it can be very distracting. The only way to solve the issue is to turn off the unit, however half the cars controls and controlled through the unit including some of the safety features so if the head unit is turned off I can’t use some of the safety features.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
2 complaints
The truck was initially brought in on April 10, 2024, for a continuous regeneration issue with the DPF filter, showing codes P242F and P1451. The dealership diagnosed it as requiring a new EGR valve and possibly a DPF filter assembly, under the VB6 emissions recall and extended warranty (XQ1). After replacing the EGR valve, the Y-78 HPFP safety recall was completed. Upon completion, the technician noted multiple fuel-related DTCs, lack of power, and metal debris at the fuel control actuator caused by a failed CP4 pump. At this time, the dealership was unaware of the XQ1 warranty, so instead of replacing the DPF filter, they force regenerated it. Upon picking up the truck, the check engine light came on (April 26, 2024). After reporting it, the dealership stated the DPF filter needed replacement, and on May 26, 2024, it was replaced under XQ1. However, after picking up the truck again, the check engine light came back on, and diagnostics revealed misfires across all six cylinders (codes P0300–P0306) and abnormally high fuel pressure at the wire harness—issues that weren't present before the EGR valve or HPFP recall repairs. The truck has since remained at the dealership, with multiple unsuccessful attempts to fix the issue by replacing the fuel lifter, wire harness, fuel filter, and a second Y-78 recall replacement due to "faulty parts" from the first attempt. The dealership charged a diagnostic fee and suggested replacing rocker arms and push rods, but this did not resolve the problem. The dealership has since recommended replacing the PCM module but then retracted the recommendation and is now requesting a new diagnostic fee to tear down the engine, remove cylinder heads, and inspect for debris, as the misfires and high fuel pressure have persisted since April 26. The safety concern is that the truck behaves as though it is starving for fuel when the engine light reappears, with stored codes showing misfires and high fuel pressure, related to Y-78.

I have been put off by RAM for 2 years now on three different recalls. I've attempted to get several dealerships to fix them. The most recent dealership, Greenville Tx Dodge RAM, [XXX] @ [XXX] tells me that I am on 'a list' to be called when they have the parts. I've been on 'the list' since Dec 2022, originally committing to a 2-3 month wait. Today I've been told at best, another 2-3 months. AFTER BRAKING AND GETTING THE VEHICLE STOPPED, IT WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THE ETC LIGHT WENT OUT BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND WHILE EN ROUTE TO THE DEALER, THE ETC LIGHT CAME ON, THIS TIME RESULTING IN A POWER LOSS. IT HAPPENED WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY RAMP, AND COULD ONLY GET THE VEHICLE SPEED GRADUALLY UP TO 40. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO CLEAR CODES AND REPAIR, BUT KEPT VEHICLE OVERNIGHT FOR A TEST DRIVE. DURING THE DEALER TEST DRIVE, THE ETC LIGHT CAME ON AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. SO FAR THERE HASN'T BEEN A RESOLUTION, BUT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. The contact owns a 2019 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, there was blue and white smoke coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken back to the residence. The contact saw a cloud of smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact waited to see where the smoke was coming from and attempted to start however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was 110,000.

STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
1 complaint
We took a trip from Daleville, Alabama to Las Vegas, Nevada. Before we left, We took my 2019 RAM 2500 Bighorn diesel pickup to our local Ram dealership, Mitchel Chrysler Dodge in Enterprise, Alabama to have it inspected, to make sure there wouldn't be any problems along the way. They cleared it, and said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. On my way, the steering wheel position started slipping to the left. after that, I received a waning on my dash that said " electronic stability control". So I took it to the closest RAM dealership, in Lawton Oklahoma, and they stated "needs a steering Gearbox replacement" and it would take two weeks to get the part, and then fix it. They told me it would be safe to drive. When I got to Las Vegas, at that point it was at the seven O'clock position. We took it to Chapman RAM dealership and they told me it was a loose jam nut and it had stripped the drag link. During the diagnosis they broke they clockspring on the air bag. They quoted that to fix the vehicle it would cost over three thousand dollars! They said it would not be covered on my mopar extended warranty. So I began researching it and found the recall- V06/NHTSA 19V-021 drag link for 2017-2018 (DJ) RAM 2500 pickup. My RAM was built in June of 2019. How can this still be a problem 6 months later after the recall ended? My safety and the safety of others could have been compromised if the drag link would have completely pulled out. I could have lost control of the vehicle and it could have caused a serious crash ending in injury or death to myself, and others.

Following completion of the Y78 (high-pressure fuel pump) and XQ1 (emissions) recall repairs in April 2024, our 2019 Ram 2500 immediately began experiencing misfires, fuel system issues, and ongoing performance problems. These symptoms have persisted for over a year and have never been resolved despite repeated service visits and escalations. The vehicle suffered multiple HPFP failures, including one that caused fuel to leak into the crankcase, resulting in approximately 19 quarts of fuel-contaminated engine oil. Despite technical service bulletins calling for specific system flushes and tests post-repair, the original dealership did not follow these protocols or provide documentation confirming that the required inspections (fuel pressure, contamination checks, EGR/DPF/DEF system functionality) were ever completed. A new dealership confirmed the presence of metal debris after the fuel filter, suggesting the system was still contaminated even after the prior recall-related flush and HPFP replacements. They also found non-functional emissions components covered under XQ1, including a failed DPF urea pump and a faulty NASA pressure sensor. These failures were not documented or addressed by the original repair facility. Despite these clear safety risks, the recall is considered “completed,” leaving us with a vehicle that is still experiencing symptoms consistent with the original recall condition. The failure to properly inspect, document, and address these defects has placed our safety at risk and caused prolonged loss of vehicle use. The issue, confirmed by a 2nd authorized dealership, identified fuel contamination & failure in multiple components of the emissions systems. The check engine light appeared prior to the initial failure and has recurred each time the vehicle was returned after service. Given the continued presence of recall-related symptoms and the lack of proper inspection & documentation, this unresolved recall should be reopened and investigated

Front parking sensors always being disabled due to something. Keeps saying wipe sensors. Even after going through wash bays. Tailgate has been opening on its own multiple times while driving, while going through car wash, and just sitting still. Try to close it, and it pops back open instantly. Have to do this several times and hope it stays closed. Now the tailgate won't open at all via the handle. You must use the remote or in cab button. What's annoying and dangerous is it opening while hauling items and it opens with out you knowing driving down the road. I have lost items on the highway a few times. Furthermore, the fact that there is no warning device on the dash to indicate it's open is a very serious issue. With these electronic tailgates, it should be a standard that there is a open gate indicator to warn drivers. It's there for every other door, why not the bed door?

While towing a roughly 13k pound camper with my family from Texas to New York and back , I lost trailer brakes, traction control , cruise control and my trailer brakes. The trip included ice, rain, snow. We had a death in the family and the trip did not include the time to take to have this problem troubleshot. Literally one of the scariest trips ever through different elevations and traction levels. These would’ve all been just fine had the systems worked correctly. The truck only had 35,000 miles at the time. Of course by the end of this trip I was now out of warranty. ( so I think) I don’t know. With as common as this issue is , I don’t know what to do. I plan on keeping this truck but I do not anyone else drive it due to the safety concerns. As a combat veteran I’m used to doing sketchy stuff. But it’s not right. It’s dangerous. The issues continue intermittently and never when the diagnostic is available.

Component/System Failed:The stability control system, and subsequently, the cruise control system of my 2019 Ram 2500 malfunctioned. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risks:The malfunction posed a significant safety risk as it occurred multiple times while driving at speeds of 50mph to 74mph. The unexpected failure of the stability control could lead to a loss of vehicle control, especially at high speeds, increasing the risk of an accident. Additionally, the deactivation of cruise control without warning could lead to sudden changes in vehicle speed, potentially surprising the driver and leading to unsafe driving conditions. Reproduction of the Problem & Inspection by Manufacturer/Other Parties: The truck is currently at AutoNation Ram 265 Drivers Way A, Hardeeville, SC 29927 Warning Signs: None Best Assessment of Incident and Cause: Unknown, but this began occurring after the replacement of the recalled high pressure fuel pump.

March 10,2023 2019 Ram 2500 Cummins 6.7L Diesel I picked up my truck from the dealership this morning, after they did the outstanding CP4 fuel pump recall. I drove the vehicle home (approx 20) miles. Parked the car in the driveway for about 3 hours. Then took a short trip to the store. After the store, when leaving the parking lot I noticed an electrical/plastic smell. Within in seconds smoke started to come through the air vents. I pulled the truck over, turned off the truck, open the hood when fire exspelled from the engine compartment. Immediately call the fire department. They arrived in minutes to put out the fire, but at that point the whole front end of the truck was on fire and smoking (dense white/gray smoke). Then there was a loud burst of flame that came from the engine compartment. The fire worked its way into the cab compartment, burned it completely. The truck is totaled.

I was driving home from the market and the truck slowed down to 16 mph. I could not go any faster. I pulled over to the middle of the street and turned the truck off for a minute. I then restarted it and attempted to drive it somewhere safe. The truck finally came to a stop right before an intersection. I had to get out because cars were coming fast. I was afraid someone was going to hit me. I called AAA right away. They told me the tow truck was on the way and that they would send the police. The police never showed up. The tow truck got there in about 15 minutes. The only information i have is the fuel system has a error code of P0087 and reads Fuelrail system pressure-too low. Check engine light is on, It did say something about the fuel system and the truck will not start. No one has looked at the truck yet. I will be calling the dealer this coming week to see about getting it checked out and having recall issues taken care of.

It will just sputter and I have to fight it to about 35mph when I can activate cruise control then am forced to drive only using cruise control no matter what the road or traffic is like which is also not very safe. So far, I am at 3 service appointments over the span of about a month and a half, over $500 invested and the dealer cannot find the culprit or issue causing this. I know that fault code P2121 is set off but it does not lead to much.

SUSPENSION
1 complaint
I HAVE THE FACTORY REAR AIR SUSPENSION, AND FOR THE MOST PART, IT WORKS VERY WELL. THERE ARE A COUPE OF SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES THAT I BELIEVE COULD EASILY BE RESOLVED WITH A LITTLE PROGRAMMING. WITH THE FACTORY AIR SUSPENSION, IT AUTO-LEVELS. THIS MEANS YOU CAN NO LONGER USE HOW MUCH THE TRUCK SUSPENSION SQUATS TO GAUGE THE LOAD THAT THE TRUCK IS CARRYING. IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO GAUGE THE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT THE TRUCK IS CARRYING, ESPECIALLY WHEN LOADING A TRAILER (SUCH AS A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT ON THE TRAILER), SO THAT THE COMBINATION CAN BE SAFELY DRIVEN AND HANDLE WELL. THE ONLY INDICATION OF THE WEIGHT IS WHEN THE TRUCK REPORTS "AIR SUSPENSION DISABLE DUE TO PAYLOAD". THIS ISSUE COULD BE EASILY SOLVED WITH A LITTLE PROGRAMMING TO SHOW THE DRIVER THE PRESSURE IN THE REAR AIR BAGS ON THE UCONNECT/STEERING WHEEL DISPLAY. THE OTHER ISSUES COMES FROM WHEN THE "AIR SUSPENSION DISABLE DUE TO PAYLOAD" MESSAGE HAS BEEN ACTIVATED. ONCE ACTIVATED, THE ONLY WAY TO RESTORE THE AIR SUSPENSION FUNCTION IS TO DRIVE AT OR ABOVE 14MPH. THIS SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE RESET BY THE DRIVER, AND WITH THE VEHICLE STATIONARY. IF YOU TRY TO UNHOOK A TRAILER THAT HAS SET THIS MESSAGE, EVEN AFTER THE LOAD HAS BEEN REMOVED, YOU HAVE TO JACK THE TRAILER EXCESSIVELY HIGH AS THE AIR SUSPENSION DOES NOT AUTO-LEVEL AND WILL KEEP RAISING UNTIL THE AIR BAG TRAVEL MAXES OUT. ONCE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO RESET THE SUSPENSION AND TRYING TO RE-HOOK THE TRAILER, YOU RUN OUT OF JACK BEFORE THE TRAILER SITS ON THE TRUCK BALL AT IT'S NORMAL AUTO-LEVEL RIDE HEIGHT. THIS CAUSES A NUMBER OF SAFETY ISSUES WHEN TRYING TO RE-HITCH. PLEASE LOOK INTO THESE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE AUTO-LEVEL SUSPENSION OF THE RAM, AS I BELIEVE BOTH ARE EASILY SOLVABLE WITH NOTHING MORE THAN A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES, AND IT'S TROUBLING THAT IT CANNOT BE RESET WITH THE TRUCK STATIONARY.

BOTH CRUISE CONTROL AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL FAIL TO MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED OVER FLAT/LEVEL ROADWAYS. WHEN CRUISE CONTROL OR ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ARE ENGAGED THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY DECELERATES AND ACCELERATES TO MAINTAIN SPEED. VEHICLE HVAC SYSTEM IS INADEQUATE, BLOWS COOL, NOT COLD, BLOWS COOLER FROM PASSENGER SIDE VENT IMPACTING OPERATOR COMFORT AND INCREASING FATIGUE. ADDITIONALLY, IT BLOWS COOL AIR THROUGH THE DEFROST PANEL WHEN IT IS NOT NEEDED CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO FOG UP. *TR

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
1 complaint
THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH LED HEADLIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS. UNDER WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS (SNOW OR FREEZING RAIN) ICE WILL ACCUMULATE ON THE LENSES OF THESE LIGHTS AND VISIBILITY IS GREATLY REDUCED TO VERY UNSAFE LEVELS. THIS IS SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE ON ANY VEHICLE I OPERATED IN SIMILAR CONDITIONS, USUALLY THE HEADLIGHTS PRODUCE ENOUGH HEAT TO KEEP THE LENSES MELTED AND VISIBILITY IS NOT EFFECTED. I NOTIFIED RAM MUTABLE ABOUT THIS BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO OFFERED ANY SORT OF FIX. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THESE CONDITIONS WHICH ARE NOT UNCOMMON IN THE CLIMATES THESE VEHICLES ARE SOLD. I FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND A FIX NEEDS BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ALL VEHICLES WITH THESE SAME LIGHTS. I AM NO EXPERT BUT KNOW THIS COULD BE EASILY ADDRESSED BY ADDING A HEATING ELEMENT TO THE LENSES. THIS VEHICLE, AS WELL AS ALL OTHERS WITH THESE SAME HEADLIGHTS ARE EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THE WINTER WITH THIS FLAW. *TR

WHILE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAYS AND CITY STREETS, THE UCONNECT 4C NAV SYSTEM WILL FREEZE, REBOOT OR MALFUNCTION PREVENTING CONTROL OF THE STEREO VOLUME (CANNOT TURN DOWN OR OFF), PREVENT MANAGEMENT OF TOWING SETTINGS, DISABLES CONTROLS FOR SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL HEATING (CANNOT TURN OFF OR CHANGE PREFERENCES), OBSTRUCTS BLUETOOTH CALL MANAGEMENT, DISRUPTS VEHICLE NAVIGATION SYSTEMS AND BLOCKS CLIMATE CONTROL MANAGEMENT. IT ALSO VISUALLY DISTRACTS THE DRIVER BY REPEATED FLASHING A LARGE SCREEN ON AND OFF WITH NO ABILITY TO TURN OFF OR DISABLE IT AND CREATES AN INHOSPITABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR SAFE DRIVING. HERE IS A VIDEO THAT SHOWS THIS BEHAVIOR: HTTPS://WWW.DROPBOX.COM/S/MQLIWEXMQQMCSVF/IMG_4208.MOV?DL=0

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 RAM 2500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE RPMS INCREASED AND THE ENGINE REVVED. THE CONTACT RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND MANUALLY SHIFTED THE GEARS IN ORDER TO RETURN TO THE CORRECT READING. IN ADDITION, THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT CONTROLLED THE RADIO AND CAMERA WOULD GLITCH AND HESITATED TO CHANGE VIEWS. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH IN AN INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, DESPITE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHIFTED INTO PARK; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO REV AS IF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WERE DEPRESSED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CROWN MOTORS (LOCATED AT 555 CYPRESS AVE, REDDING, CA 96001, 888-755-5922) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EGR VALVE CLOSED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH UPHILL, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT CAME TO A ROLLING STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT NO CODES WERE FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 64570388. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300.

MY 2019 RAM 2500 LIMITED HAS THE FORWARD COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM, HOWEVER, THE SYSTEM DOES NOT FUNCTION AS SOLD OR INTENDED. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESOLVED THE ISSUE, HOWEVER NEITHER THE DEALERSHIPS NOR FCA HAS ANY IDEA HOW TO RESOLVE. FCA CUSTOMER SERVICE BELIEVES IT MAY BE SOFTWARE RELATED, BUT CURRENTLY HAS NO IDEA WHEN/IF A SOLUTION WILL ARISE. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE SENSORS DO NOT SEEM TO FUNCTION AT ALL, AND THE VEHICLE ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT PREVENT A FORWARD COLLISION IF REQUIRED. ALL ADVERTISING AND OWNER'S MANUAL DOCUMENTATION STATE THE VEHICLE CAN AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO PREVENT A FORWARD COLLISION, AND I BELIEVE THIS MISREPRESENTATION COULD PROVE HAZARDOUS TO BOTH VEHICLE OWNERS AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD IF THE SYSTEM DOES NOT FUNCTION AS ADVERTISED ON BOTH THE INTERNET WEBSITE FOR RAM TRUCKS, OR THE OWNER'S MANUAL PROVIDED WITH THESE VEHICLES.
