Brought vehicle in three times, airbag was nothing at time, now the airbag lights all the time

There was a recall in 2015 and 2019 for airbags on my model of Toyota. I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla CE. I was sent a letter from Toyota to go into a local dealership to get this done. There's only one dealership in our tri-city area. I took it into our local dealership called Findlay Toyota in Prescott, Arizona. I will say ahead of time that they have over 50 - one star reviews on Yelp.com From the moment I left the dealership in December of 2019 my airbag light was on in the dash area and it’s still there. When i went in and told Brian at the time he said it will go away. It never has. This warning was never on my dash prior to this recall. I’ve filed a complaint with the Attorney general’s office of Arizona and Findlay have no recollection of me ever going into their dealership. I've sent documentation of my visit on to the Attorney Generals Office and I’ve never heard back from Findlay Toyota. I've spoken to a Mike in July at Findlay and he was willing to waive the $130 or $150 fee only though if nothing is found wrong. I don't trust dealerships and if there's anything wrong then it was more than likely due to their workmanship back in 2019 that created this issue to begin with. I’ve also filed a complaint with the Attorney general’s offic of Texas against the Toyota headquarters because they in my opinion have caused this issue because I never had this problem prior to the work that was done at Findlay Toyota. All Toyota USA did was give me a case number and send me right back to Findlay Toyota who don't want to help me in the slightest. It’s just a conundrum. The sad thing is I think Toyota is a great company but the way that I’ve been treated in this matter is beyond appalling. I've also written to the headquarters of Toyota in Japan, explaining he above story. They never replied either. I've also called the general manager, a Mr. McCoy at Findlay Toyota and he hasn't called me back.

Inflator Rupture - front passenger inflator. A vehicle collision at Alma School and 8th Avenue where one vehicle turned left in front of the oncoming involved 2006 Toyota Corolla resulting in the Corolla striking the right side of the other vehicle. During the collision the airbags were commanded to deploy and the passenger inflator had a significant rupture/failure which sent shrapnel out of the dash, striking the passenger. Our unit has investigated two confirmed Takata inflator fatalities and after a brief visual inspection it was confirmed the passenger inflator is in several pieces. The appearance of the inflator is consistent with prior observed passenger side Takata inflators. The car has been preserved in our parking lot and the passenger side airbag, with related tears and shrapnel holes, was obtained and preserved as well. The crash was filmed on intersection CCTV and the inflator can be seen expelling fragments outwards. A Dropbox file has been created to exchange photos and video upon request. Thank you. I am a Detective with the Mesa Police Department Vehicular Crimes Unit and was made aware of NHTSA's interest in identifying inflator related cases.

On March 17, 2023 at approximately 4:12 PM on Hwy 288 northbound just south of Southmore Boulevard I was struck from behind by a Blue Jetta. Skidding into me I think he was still going about 30 miles per hour if not a little more based on the violence of the crash. My vehicle was pushed forward into the car ahead of me damaging the front of my vehicle as well. Despite the impact, my air bags did NOT deploy. I had taken the vehicle in to the Toyota shop here in Humble, TX and had the "final fix" done on the airbags. I have been physically injured as a result of this automobile accident. I have filed with my Progressive Claim Adjuster and they are talking about totaling the vehicle. Policy Number 46753320. My concern is, despite the vehicle air bags being replaced, they did not deploy. The force of the impact should have been sufficient to activate them. It could of course be a defective switch given her age, but I'd rather let science do the talking.

The car went to replace the air bag with a hood and everything seemed fine but the SRS light activated every so often. this is happening since they changed the air bag and it turns it on and off whenever it wants for seconds the car has barely 22,000 miles and has not been crashed this has been happening since they changed the car's air bag air bag in the authorized toyota dealer of santana puerto rico

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla Matrix. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the check engine warning light and the battery warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and pull over on the side of the road safely where the vehicle shut off again and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the vehicle had experienced a similar failure as in NHTSA Campaign Number: 10V384000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 200,025.

TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN INDICATING THAT THE A/C CONDENSER IS NOT PROPERLY PROTECTED, CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE CONDENSER UNIT. THE NUMBER FOR THIS REPORT IS AC002-06. MY A/C CONDENSER HAS FAILED DUE TO THE FAULTS IN THIS CONDENSER UNIT. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331, AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE PART IS FAULTY, BUT REFUSE TO COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS FAULTY UNIT AS PART OF A RECALL. ON MAY 19, 2013 MY HUSBAND AND CHILDREN WERE AT A REST STOP...OUR 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA WAS PARKED ENGINE ON WITH THE AIR CONDITION ON AS WELL WHEN THEY HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR THE REAR WINDSHIELD HAD SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES. IT IS STILL BEING HELD UP BY THE TINT. WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO ATKINS KROLL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY JUST KEPT TELLING US THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE IT WASN'T A RECALL. AC CONDENSER STATED LEAKING ON 12/18/2011. STEAM WAS COMING OUT OF FRONT OF THE CAR AS IT WAS PARKED AT A STORE. I NOTICED THIS WHEN I WAS EXITING THE STORE. TWO GARAGES CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE CONDENSER. I WENT TO DO RESEARCH ON THE CONDENSER ONLINE AND THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT DEFECTIVE CONDENSERS ON THE 2005 AND 2006 COROLLA APPEARED ON THE WEB. PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED ON THE 2007 AND AFTER COROLLA. CONDENSER HAS TO PROTECTION. COULD HAVE THE CONDENSER REPLACED TODAY AND BECAUSE OF NO PROTECTION, THE PROBLEM COULD HAPPEN AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THE WIRING WAS BURNED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT, AND TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DID NOT REPORT TO THE SCENE AND THE FIRE WENT OUT ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND SEAT. THE WIRING IN THE DOOR WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE EXACT REPAIR HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE TOYOTA 2006 COROLLA WHEN THE WINDOWS STOP WORKING, THEN THE LIGHTS BEGIN STOP WORKING SO SHE PARKED THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN SO SHE WAS ABLE TO GET SOMEONE WITH JUMPER CABLES TO START THE CAR. SHE CONTACTED PERFORMANCE TOYOTA WHO INSTRUCTED HER TO BRING THE CAR TO TOYOTA. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE CAR COMPUTER'S ECU UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY REPLACED THE ECU WITH NO CHARGE SINCE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY CHARGED ME $257.99 FOR A WIRE THAT HAD SHORTENED BEHIND THE DASH CAUSING THE FUSES TO BLOW. I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE COMPUTER FAILURE BUT THEY DISAGREED. THEN ON JUNE 20, 2012 WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED BY PERFORMANCE COLLISION BODY SHOP THEY CONTACTED ME TO INFORM ME THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I JUST BOUGHT A 2006 MATRIX (TOYOTA). IT ONLY HAS 88,000 MILES ON IT (OCTOBER, 2020). THE CAR IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF. I'VE TAKEN IT TO 2 SEPARATE QUALIFIED MECHANICS. THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WHEN THE LIGHT IS OFF THE CAR RUNS PERFECT. WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THE GAS PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL ON A STRAIGHT AWAY FLAT ROAD. I WAS DRIVING 30MPH LEAVING TOWN. THE SPEED LIMIT INCREASED TO 40MPH BEFORE FURTHER INCREASING TO 65MPH HIGHWAY. IT'S A STRAIGHT FLAT ROAD. I COULD NOT GET THE CAR OVER 55MPH. WHEN I GOT TO A SMALL HILL THE CAR FINALLY MADE IT TO THE TOP 45 MPH WITH THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DEPRESSED. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GET THE CAR UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED AS I WAS COMING DOWN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL WITH THE GAS PEDAL STILL DEPRESSED COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I USED A HALF OF A TANK OF GAS TO DRIVE 15 MILES. I AM WRITING THIS AS I AM CONCERNED. WHEN I LOOKED ONLINE I FOUND THE PROBLEM I AM DESCRIBING WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONGST OTHER MATRIX OWNERS. I WAS SLOWLY PULLING UP THE DRIVEWAY TO PARK BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN THE COROLLA SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD. IT ACCELERATED QUICKLY AND I COULDN'T STOP IT. IT CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF THE OTHER VEHICLEWAAQ. BOTH VEHICLES SUSTAINED DAMAGE BUT THE COROLLA'S IS SIGNIFICANT.

ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. VEHICLE EACH TIME WAS AT VERY LOW SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR PARK TO REVERSE, WITH LIGHT PRESSURE APPLIED TO BRAKES. ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE AND ACCELERATE, BRAKING HARDER HAD NO EFFECT, AND VEHICLE STOPPED ONLY WHEN SHIFTED TO PARK. INSTANCES OCCURRED WHILE PARALLEL PARKING OR COMING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY ONTO A BUSY STREET. ACCELERATOR WAS NOT STUCK IN DOWN POSITION, BUT ENGINE ROARED AND RACED ON ITS OWN POWER. I HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE DURING THE FOUR OR FIVE SECONDS IT TOOK ME TO SHIFT INTO PARK. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER ON NOVEMBER 17, 2017 AFTER FIRST THREE INCIDENTS, WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT FINDING NO PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER AGAIN ON FEBRUARY 14, 2018, AFTER TWO MORE INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY SUGGESTED USER ERROR, MY CONFUSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT WAS NOT USER ERROR AND NOT FLOOR MATS STUCK UNDER GAS PEDAL. IT HAPPENED FIVE TIMES AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. THE CAUSE WAS DEFINITELY UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND IS THE SECOND SUCH INCIDENT WITH THIS CAR SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED USED IN DECEMBER 2015.

MY CAR MADE A SOUND LIKE ROCKS IN A BLENDER AND STOPPED MOVING FORWARD. I SHIFTED IN TO NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO A STOP. THE SOUND WAS FROM THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.I TRIED TO SHIFT BACK INTO GEAR (DRIVE) BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET IT TO GO INTO DRIVE AND THE SOUND THE TRANS WAS MAKING WAS TO SAY THE LEAST HORRIBLE . AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS HEADING FOR THE ON RAMP TO INTERSTATE 90. I HAD FOUR CHILDREN IN THIS CAR AND CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ONE MINUTE LATER!!! I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND DID NOT RESTART IT.I HAD TOWED TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED!! $3600.00 FOR A TRANSMISSION AND MY CAR HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 53000 MILES! THIS IS MY 8TH TOYOTA AND POSSIBLY LAST!! I WILL SEE WHAT TOYOTA HAS TO SAY. SO FAR ,THEIR ONLY OFFER(YOUR TRANSMISSION IS BAD). NO REASON WHY!! I WAS RETURNING HOME LAST WEEK ON I-40 IN TN. I WAS GOING UP A GRADE WITH VEHICLES ALL AROUND ME WHEN MY TRANSMISSION BLEW. I INSTANTLY LOST POWER AND WENT FROM 70 TO 50 IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE. LUCKILY I WASN'T HIT AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. AFTER TOWING THE CAR HOME I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR OF MANY SIMILAR ACCOUNTS FROM OTHER MATRIX OWNERS. APPARENTLY THERE ARE FAULTY BEARINGS TO BLAME FOR COUNTLESS TRANSMISSION FAILURES ON CARS WITH ALARMINGLY LOW MILEAGE. Air bag light has been on for awhile and now the horn is not working. When the horn stopped working I took it in for repair again. Toyota repair department says it's a failure of the spiral cable. I found there was a recall to replace the spiral cable in Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles but 2009 - 2010 year models, not my year of 2006. The documentation I found was very clear in stating it was going to do a recall not because of a manufacturing defect but because of a design issue. I think my vehicle should have been included in the recall because it probably has the same or similar design.

I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT WAS INVOLVED IN THE ECM RECALL CAMPAIGN, IN 2011 I TOOK MY TOYOTA TO MY LOCAL DEALER (BAYSIDE TOYOTA) AND THEY INSPECTED THE ECM UNIT AND DEEMED IT OK, NOT IN THE RECALL SERIAL NUMBERS. IN 2018 MY TOYOTA FAILED STATE EMISSIONS (NO OBD-2 PORT COMMUNICATION) AND BEGAN STALLING AND DIFFICULT STARTING. I REMOVED THE ECM UNIT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE SERIAL NUMBERS ARE WITHIN THE 2011 RECALL PARAMETERS. I BROUGHT THE TOYOTA BACK TO MY LOCAL DEALER, THEY INSPECTED THE ECM AND AGREE THAT IT WAS WITHIN THE RECALL SERIAL NUMBERS. MY TOYOTA HAS BEEN AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (BAYSIDE) SINCE THURSDAY, JANUARY 8 2019. THE DEALER HAS INDICATED THAT TOYOTA CORP. HAS NOT APPROVED THE ECM REPLACEMENT. WE HAD OUR CAR SERVICED JUST PRIOR TO HITTING 300,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AFTER A WEEK OR SO WE OBSERVED THAT THE ODOMETER HAD NOW STUCK ON 299,999 AND FAILED TO MOVE FORWARD AFTERWARDS. 11-16-18 CALLED AND TALKED TO RICARDO AT THERE NATIONWIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER. THEY STATED TO CONTACT OUR LOCAL CUSTOMER RELATIONS MGR IN VENTURA, CA. I PLACED A CALL AND RELAYED MY PROBLEM TO PATRICIA (XXXXX). SHE PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH RICHARD IN THEIR OFFICE WHO CTC THE REGIONAL PARTS MGR TO SEE IF THEY WERE COVERING PARTS WITH THIS PROBLEM I HEARD BACK TODAY THEY WERE NOT. MENTIONED IF YOU GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM THERE WERE NUMEROUS REPORTS IN THE PAST INCLUDING ONE BY NBC LOS ANGELES OCTOBER 1, 2014. I MENTIONED THIS AS WELL, BUT THEY STATED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT AREN'T COVERING BECAUSE THEY ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. ENGINE CUTS OUT UNDER ACCELERATION. ON HOTTER THAT 80 DEGREE DAYS IT WILL NOT RUN UP OVER 3000 RPMS. CUTS OUT AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE TO SPEED UNLESS VERY SLOWLY ACCELERATING. HAVE HAD TO DEALER AND THEY TELL ME IT'S THE ECM, BUT YEARS AGO THAT WAS REPLACED UNDER A RECALL FOR THE SAME REASON. 'SUPPOSEDLY'. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN INDICATING THAT THE A/C CONDENSER IS NOT PROPERLY PROTECTED THE NUMBER FOR THIS REPORT IS AC002-06. HOWEVER, TOYOTA HAS REDESIGNED THE COROLLA TO CORRECT THIS IN 2007 BY PROPERLY PROTECTING THE A/C CONDENSER LEAVING THE 2005-2006 CUSTOMERS IN THE DUST. TOYOTA COROLLA AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEMS ALL MODELS 2005-2006. I HAVE A 2006 AND A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. BOTH OF THEM HAVE SIMILAR HANDLING ISSUES, SPECIFICALLY A TENDENCY TO UNPREDICTABLY DART TO THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT. IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE (YES, EVEN ON STRAIGHT ROADS!). I HAVE HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED ON BOTH CARS, AND REPLACED TIRES. NEITHER OF THESE ACTIONS HAS HAD A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE HANDLING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON WET, SNOWY OR SLICK ROADS. BACK IN OCTOBER, 2009, A TOYOTA TECHNICIAN CHECKED OUT MY 2010 COROLLA, AND TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A HANDLING CHARACTERISTIC OF COROLLAS. HE SAID THAT TOYOTA WANTED TO MAKE THE CAR HANDLE QUICKER, SO THEY SET THE CAMBER (OR CASTER--I FORGET WHICH) AT THE FACTORY SO THAT IT HANDLES QUICKER IN TURNS BUT IT ALSO IS NOT AS STABLE WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT. ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN, IT CAN'T BE ADJUSTED. I'M GOING TO GET RID OF THE 2006 COROLLA SHORTLY BECAUSE I THINK IT'S A DEATH TRAP AND I DON'T WANT MY FAMILY IN IT. HOWEVER, AFTER REACHING THE CREST AND STARTING DOWNHILL, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT AGAIN TO THE PROPER GEAR. THE ENGINE WOULD RACE AND FINALLY A PROPER SHIFT WOULD OCCUR. THEN AT 86,870 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND IT WOULD SUDDENLY SHIFT WITH A STRONG JERK. THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH WHICH STATED TO SEEK SERVICE. I DROVE MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA AND THE BRAKE NOT WORKING WHEN I TRIED TO MAKE A TURN ON A SNOWY AND ICY ROAD AND ALMOST HIT BY INCOMING CARS. WE FOUND OUT THE BRAKES MAY HAVE ISSUES ESP IN THE WINTER AFTER WE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 2006. THE CONTACT STATED HE REPLACED THE BUSHING ON HIS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 239,450.

ON NOVEMBER 22, 2017 CLOSE TO 3 P.M., I WAS DRIVING A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA IN THE PASSING LANE ON I-90 EAST NEAR SYRACUSE, NY. THERE WAS A WHITE FORD PICKUP TRUCK DRIVING IN FRONT OF ME. THERE WAS A POLICE CAR'S FLASHING LIGHTS AHEAD OF US IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. BOTH THE PICKUP TRUCK AND I MOVED INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THE FORD PICKUP HIT THEIR BRAKES, AT WHICH POINT I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES. THE COROLLA SLOWED DOWN FOR A SPLIT SECOND, AND THEN THE BRAKES GAVE WAY. I WAS PUSHING DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY THE WHOLE TIME, BUT THE COROLLA CONTINUED TO GO FORWARD AT THE SAME SPEED. THE COROLLA THEN HIT THE REAR OF THE FORD PICKUP TRUCK. MY EYEGLASSES FLEW OFF MY FACE, AND MY DRIVER'S SEATBELT CAUGHT, BUT THE COROLLA FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT, THE COROLLA WAS TOTALED. HAD THE COROLLA'S BRAKES FUNCTIONED PROPERLY, I BELIEVE I WOULD HAVE COME TO A FULL STOP AND NOT HIT THE FORD PICK UP TRUCK.

AFTER PERIODS OF MORE THAN ABOUT 6 HOURS, FIRST ATTEMPT AT BREAKING DOES NOT DECELERATE CAR SUFFICIENTLY TO AVOID ACCIDENT. ON GOING PROBLEM. I DID NOT USE THE CAR THE WHOLE SATURDAY UNTIL 8 PM. IT WAS A VERY COLD DAY IN NY. I STARTED DRIVING AND THE BRAKES WORKED FINE FOR THE FIRST 4 MINUTES, BUT AFTER THAT I WAS GOING DOWNHILL AND THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING (THEY GOT HARD TO PRESS) AND THE MORE THAT I PRESSED THEM THE RPM BECAME LOWER, I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL, PRESSING THE GAS AND THEN THE BRAKES FINALLY WORKED BUT THEN THE CAR TURNED OFF BY ITSELF. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE VALVE STEM HAS NOT YET BEEN NOTIFIED. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,300 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,800.

I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS, AND PURCHASED A NEW BATTHERY, TESTED THE STARTER,IT WAS FINE, ALTERNATOR WAS FINE. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAW THE PROBLEM AND PULLED UP THE TSB WEBSITE AND IT IS ON THERE OWN SITE. THE TITLE OF THE NOTICE IS 1ZZ-FE ENGINE "NO START" OR EXTENDED CRANK" CONDITION. IT AFFECTS COROLLAS AND MATRIXES. SURPRISE HERE. ANYWAY, IT STATES THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY MANUFACTURING PROCESS HAS BEEN IMPROVED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 60,000 MILES. I HAVE 66,000. I THINK CONSUMERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS SINCE THEY KNOW IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM OR IT WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ON THEIR SITE. NOW THEY WANT 1200.00 TO FIX THIS. OUR 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE ENGINE SHUT-DOWN ON A FREEWAY. THE ENGINE SIMPLY SHUT OFF, WHICH CUT OFF THE POWER STEERING. WE WERE ABLE TO BRING THE CAR SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RE-START. THIS ENGINE STALL COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY SERIOUS CRASH BECAUSE THE CAR QUICKLY LOST SPEED IN FAST-MOVING TRAFFIC, AND THE STEERING BECAME HARD TO TURN. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN 2007, BUT WE NOW UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA AND WE WANT TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT. I HAVE OWNED MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA S WITH A 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION SINCE JULY 2006. IN THAT TIME I HAVE HAD APPROXIMATELY 5 INCIDENCES WHEN THE ENGINE RACED UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS HAS ALWAYS OCCURRED WHEN I HAD THE CLUTCH DEPRESSED AND WAS BRAKING. I HAVE THOUGHT THAT MY RIGHT FOOT, WHICH I INTENDED TO BE ON THE CENTER OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, WAS ACTUALLY ON THE SIDE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL SUCH THAT IT SIMULTANEOUSLY CONTACTED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS EXPLANATION IS PROBLEMATIC IN THAT EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED, IT IS STILL HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE ONLY WAY I COULD BE DEPRESSING BOTH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME IS FOR MY FOOT TO BE TWISTED AND OFF CENTER AT THE SAME TIME. MAYBE THIS IS POSSIBLE, I DON'T KNOW. WHAT USUALLY HAPPENS IS THAT THE ENGINE RACES(MAYBE 4000 TO 5000 RPM) BUT SINCE THE CLUTCH IS ALREADY DEPRESSED AND MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR DOES NOT SPEED UP. NOISE CONTINUED TO GET WORSE SO TOOK IN AGAIN ON JANUARY 17, 2010 - MILEAGE @ 50,496. TENSIONER ASSY. WAS REPLACED (NOT UNDER WARRANTY) @ A COST OF $368.18. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER THE SAME NOISE RETURNED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT INCREASE IN SPEED WITH LIMITED POWER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. ONE WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATED TO 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE YET THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THE ECU WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED LESS THAN A YEAR PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE ECU WAS REPLACED HOWEVER WHILE LEAVING THE DEALER, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE AFTER MARKET SECURITY SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FAILURES WITH THE SECURITY SYSTEM SINCE PURCHASING FIVE YEARS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. PAID $54.66 FOR PARTS, $115 FOR LABOR $1.43 FOR MISC CHARGES AND $4.55 FOR SALES TAX. YESTERDAY, THE BUCKLE THEY REPLACED BROKE AND CANNOT BE BUCKLED. I WILL HAVE TO HAVE IT REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME, 4.5 YEARS AFTER REPLACING THE FIRST SEAT BELT LATCH BUCKLE. I'M NOT CERTAIN REGARDING THE SPECIFICS OF THE GAS LEAK REFERENCED IN THIS ARTICLE, BUT I AM UNABLE TO FILL MY GAS TANK TO FULL CAPACITY AS GAS WILL LEAK FROM THE TANK BECAUSE OF PRESSURE RELIEF OR OVERFLOW HOSE BREAK AT THE TOP OF THE TANK. THE GAS STARTED TO LEAK FROM TOP OF THE FUEL TANK WHEN FILLING TO MAXIMUM LEVEL. THIS FAILURE APPEARED AFTER 5 YEARS USAGE OF THE NEW CAR. DRIVER WHO WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, CAUSED MUTCH FUEL LEAK TO STREETS. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS FOR DRIVERS WHO SMOKE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA S (SPORT) AT AROUND 60 MPH, THE ENGINE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING AND BEGAN RAPIDLY DECREASING TRAVELING SPEED TO 10-15 MILES MPH. THEN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY GAS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED DECLINING IN SPEED. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE CAR STARTED AND BEGAN OPERATION AS IF NOTHING HAD OCCURRED. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED AT AN AUTO PARTS STORE, AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND A PREPONDERANCE OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE EXACT EXPERIENCE TO MINE FROM OWNERS OF (2005-2007). OUTRAGED OWNERS EXPRESSED THAT IT WAS COMMON KNOWLEDGE AMONG DEALERS THAT THERE WAS ENGINE COMPUTER ISSUE, AND A SUBSEQUENT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED WITHOUT NOTIFYING OWNERS OF THIS MATTER. I RELAYED THIS INFORMATION TO THE TOYOTA OF EASLEY DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE MANAGER GAVE ME A LOT OF PUSHBACK ON THE MATTER, SAID I WAS 4,000 MILES OVER THEIR FREE REPLACEMENT PERIOD (8 YRS/80,000 MILES). I RESPONDED THAT THE MILEAGE WASN'T THE CAUSE IT IS COMMONLY KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE. FINALLY, AFTER SPEAKING MY CALL TO THE TOYOTA HELPLINE AND HIS DISTRICT MANAGER, THE PARTS MANAGER AGREED TO CUT THE FEE 50% FROM $724 TO $352. AT THIS POINT, THEY CHARGED ME $85 JUST TO LOOK AT THE CAR SO I HAD NO OTHER RECOURSE BUT TO PAY TO HAVE THEM FIX THIS SINCE THE CAR WAS BEGINNING TO LOSE ENGINE POWER IN THIS MANNER EVERY 10 TO 15 MILES. ONCE FIXED DEALER SAID LIGHT STILL ON BECAUSE THE STEERING SPRING COIL IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAS CUT SOMETHING THAT TURNS THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON, COST TO FIX $500. OUR TOYOTA COROLLA 2006 HAD A SRS AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COME ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER?S AIRBAG MODULE IS ATTACHED TO A SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY WITH ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS THAT HAVE BECOME DAMAGED FROM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DAMAGE TO THE SPINAL WIRE CAUSED THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP TO ILLUMINATE WHICH MEANS THAT THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. THE SPINAL CORD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY I DROVE THE 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA DOWN THE STREET AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK EXTREMELY BADLY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO PRECISION TOYOTA AND ASKED THEM IF IT WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE MECHANICS EXPLAINED THE TOYOTA COROLLA VEHICLES CANNOT BE ALIGNED AND TO GO ON MY MERRY WAY. I THEN CONTINUED DRIVING THE TOYOTA COROLLA AND MADE SEVERAL VISITS TO BRAKE MASTERS AND GOODYEAR TIRE IN PHOENIX AZ TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO BADLY. BRAKE MASTERS AND GOODYEAR TIRE FAILED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE VEHICLE ACCRUED 10,000 MILES THE TIRES WERE BALD! THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AT LEAST 4 TIMES DURING THIS TIME PERIOD AT GOODYEAR TIRES LOCATED IN PHOENIX AZ. I THEN REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES WITH A NEW SET. DURING THIS TIME PERIOD THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO SHAKE. I THEN REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES ON THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN. I THEN WENT BACK TO PRECISION TOYOTA FOR HELP. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT PRECISION TOYOTA TOLD ME TO NEVER RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP OR HE WOULD CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE ME ESCORTED OFF THE LOT. I DROVE AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP VERY CALMLY. I REMEMBER THIS DAY VERY CLEARLY. I THEN WENT HOME AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU IN TUCSON AZ AGAINST PRECISION TOYOTA FOR FAILING TO FIX MY VEHICLE. On my way to work when the I hit the brakes... brakes locked up causing me to be unable to come to a complete stop.. Driver side airbag deployed but the passenger side airbag caused the dash to explode causing a fire in the dash. With the dash exploding and the passenger side airbag not deploying correctly it cause the passenger to hit windshield! Unknown Unknown Just a check engine light for knock sensor.

I purchased a Toyota three years ago, immediately I complained about the brakes scrubbing and squeaky sounds, the dealer denied anything was wrong with the brakes. After paying the last payment the other day, now the brake pedal is stiff as a board and takes alot of pressure to stop, which is a safety hazzard to all. Also there have been no warning lights come on notification of any problems. I've also noticed Electrical problems like the dash lights going off and on the clock works when it takes a notion.

The contact's mother owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while reversing out of a parking space and as she shifted the vehicle into drive, the vehicle surged forward. The contact's mother lost control of the vehicle and crashed into several vehicles and then a curb and turned the vehicle ignition off. The contact's mother stated she had no brakes. The contact sustained bruises to her left and right legs by the knees and both wrists were bruised. Additionally, the contact had pain in her left and right shoulders. The contact did not seek medical attention. The other vehicles were not occupied. The contact stated she did not notice any warning lights were illuminated. The police were on the scene and filed a report. The contact's mother had the vehicle towed to her residence and then later towed to a dealer. The dealer did not inspect the vehicle, however, the manufacturer had an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle brakes. The mechanic determined that there were no mechanical problems with the brakes. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

My mother’s car suddenly went out of control in the parking lot of the local power company. The car was out of control like a wild horse and crashed several cars. This is not a driver error. The car mileage reading is ~40,000. I found that there are recalls on the Toyota cars (with problems such as cars went of control and accelerated uncontrollably), but not this particular car/VIN #. (The car’s airbag was on the recall list, but when we stopped at the local Toyota dealership’s service department, the assistant manager always tell us that they are busy, come back next time. It happened more than 3 times.) After contacting Toyota Corporate, Toyota sent out a third party to do an inspection on the car. The 3rd party inspector downloaded a whole bunch data. Based on the 3rd party’s findings, Toyota Corporate states that no evidence that the incident was the result of the defect in [this] vehicle. My mother maintains the car accordingly to the instructions of the local Toyota dealership’s service department. One strange thing was that the 3rd party inspector told Toyota Corporation that there were a lot fire ants presented in the car at the time of his inspection. This seems impossible. My family members and the tow truck driver did not find any fire ants before and after the 3rd party’s inspection. The vehicle’s parked at the local Toyota dealership’s parking lot at the time of inspection. There must be a problem with car when it went out of control. Please advise, thanks!

TAKATA RECALL- THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL. AT THE TIME THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON CONSTANTLY WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. I ADVISED THE DEALER/REPAIR THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON AND THAT WE HAD RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE RECALL. THE AIRBAG WAS REPAIRED/REPLACED. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON, THEREFORE I CONTACTED THE DEALER. THEY ADVISED ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER. WE HAVE NOW TAKEN IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND NOW THEY SAY IT COST $110 FOR THE ASSESSMENT AND $550 FOR THE SPIRAL CABLE. I FEEL THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE AIRBAG RECALL AND REPAIRED AT THE TIME THE RECALLED PART WAS REPAIRED. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TODAY TO ASK ABOUT THE RECALLED AIR BAG THEY MADE ME FEEL AS IF WE WERE IN THE WRONG BECAUSE WE DID NOT TAKE IT BACK IMMEDIATELY AND THAT THESE WERE TWO SEPARATE ISSUES. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK AT OUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE AND WERE SHOCKED AT THE COST OF REPAIRS AND THAT IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL AND WAS NOT CORRECTED WHEN THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. IN ADDITION, OTHER VEHICLES HAVE RECALLED THIS PART SUCH AS DODGE, VOLKSWAGEN, HYUNDAI, KIA, AND JUST THIS YEAR JEEP ISSUED A RECALL ON THE SAME PART. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE TRANSMISSION COST. FIRESTONE STATED THAT TOYOTA RECOMMENDS A TRANSMISSION SERVICE EVERY 50,000 MILES BUT MY MAINTANCE BOOK SAYS ONLY DO THAT IF YOU EITHER TOW, OFF ROADING, OR DIRT ROADS FOR LONG PERIOD OF THE TIME. I DID NEITHER, SO TOYOTA SAYS NO NEED TO DO SERVICE. I DID CONTACT TOYOTA ADVOCATE AFTER I HAD MY TRASMISSION DONE AT COTTMAN TRANSMISSION AND THEY COULD NOT HELP ME CAUSE I WENT TO AN OUTSIDE VENDOR. MY CAR HAD ONLY 148,745 MILES. TOYOTA SAYS THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR TRANSMISSION UNLESS THERE IS A RECALL. THE ENGINE IS STALLING. I NOTICED THIS AT LEAST A MONTH AGO. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 OR 6 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. IT FIRST OCCURRED WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT AT SCHOOL. IT DID RESTART, BUT IT JERKED ONCE OR TWICE AND KEPT GOING. THE NEXT DAY, I WAS ABLE TO START CAR AND DRIVE A LITTLE FURTHER, MAYBE A MILE AT ABOUT 30 MPH. WHEN I ENTERED AN ENTRANCE RAMP ON THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF ACCELERATION. I HAD TO VEER TO THE SHOULDER. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK,THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE A FEW MILES. THEN, I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO EXIT ON A RAMP WHEN IT STALLED AGAIN. I EXITED FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT TO COMPOSE MYSELF BECAUSE THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE HONKING AND DRIVERS UPSET THAT VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT NOTICE. THE VEHICLE DID CUT OFF AT A HIGHER SPEED AS WELL. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN ADULT PASSENGER SIT IN THE FRONT INSTEAD OF IN THE BACK WITH TWO CAR SEATS. MY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE IN MY DRIVEWAY APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MINUTES AFTER I RETURNED HOME FROM FROM MY JOB, WHICH IS 12 MILES FROM MY HOME. WITHIN MINUTES I HEARD SIRENS, BUT I WASN'T IN A ROOM THAT FACED THE DRIVEWAY AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ALREADY ON SCENE WHEN I REALIZED THE FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS FULLY ENGULFED. THE FIRE TOOK APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES TO FULLY EXTINGUISH AND THE HEAT DAMAGED AN ADJACENT VEHICLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND MY HOME WAS NOT DAMAGED. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED WHEN THE FIRE BROKE OUT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE CAUSE AS MECHANICAL AND THEIR REPORT IS PENDING. A POLICE OFFICER RESPONDED BUT DID NOT FILE A REPORT AFTER RULING OUT CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT SPECIFICALLY CAUSED THE FIRE BUT THE ATTACHED PHOTOS SHOW THE DAMAGE, INCLUDING TO THE ADJACENT CAR.

THIS HAPPENED ON I-95 NORTH IN MARYLAND BETWEEN MD-32 AND MD-175. AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION OF MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CAME APART. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED MAKING NOISE AND BEGAN TO SHAKE. I LOST CONTROL FOR A FEW SECONDS FROM THE SHAKING AND THE FEELING AS IF SOMEONE WAS PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I BACKED MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA INTO A FRIEND'S DRIVEWAY, AND THEN PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE TO STRAIGHTEN IT A BIT. THE CAR SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING SHOT ACROSS THE STREET (PERHAPS AT 45-50 MPH), WENT OVER A 6" HIGH CEMENT RETAINING CURBING, AND ACROSS A LAWN INTO ANOTHER DRIVEWAY. ALL THE WHILE I HAD MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE (NOT THE GAS PEDAL). I SWERVED THE WHEEL TO AVOID HITTING A TELEPHONE POLE, AND THE HOUSE. I FINALLY GOT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, AND AT LAST THE BRAKES ENGAGED, AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR AVOIDING A PICK-UP TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY AND A TREE. THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY IS MOUNTED IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK , HANGING DOWN SUBMERGED IN THE GAS. ONE OF THE POWER WIRES FROM THE PUMP ASSY. GOING TO THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AT THE TOP MOUNTING PLATE OF THE PUMP, WAS BADLY BURNED AND MELTED CAUSING THE PUMP NOT TO WORK WHEN IT WARMED UP ALONG WITH THIS ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. REMEMBER THIS IS INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. THIS COULD HAVE CREATED A SERIOUS EXPLOSION ! TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR "ECM" (ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE) PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH STALLING ENGINE, SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE CRANKS AND WILL NOT START. I THINK SOME OF THE "ECM " PROBLEMS COULD HAVE BEEN MIS-DIAGNOSED AND WERE THIS BURNT WIRE AND CONNECTOR FROM THE FUEL PUMP. 1. RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA INDICATING THAT A SAFETY DEFECT EXISTS IN MY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) FOR MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. I TOOK MY CAR TO SPRINGFIELD TOYOTA ON 2/22/2011. THEY REPLACED THE ECM AND NOW THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THEY TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER TO TURN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT OFF , IT WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $300 TO $400. THE DEALERSHIP LEFT THE ECM DISCONNECTED AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. 2. THE SERVICE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. THIS MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. 3. DEALERSHIP DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS I PAY THEM FOR THE DIAGNOSIS TIME. WITH THE OLD ECT I DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES EXHIBITED PREMATURE WEAR AND THE BODY PAINT BEGAN TO PEEL PREMATURELY. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE ALSO DEFECTIVE. LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S ENGINEERS AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES FOUND WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000.

WE BOUGHT A 2006 CERTIFIED COROLLA LE ON JUNE 19, 2010 FROM A DEALERSHIP IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA. ON AUGUST 18, 2010 MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND WHILE AT STOP LIGHT EARLIER THAT DAY HER CAR HESITATED AND DIDN'T WANT TO MOVE. THAT EVENING AROUND 8:30 PM AS SHE WAS DRIVING HER CAR, THE ROAD CURVED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT BUT SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL OR DEPRESS THE BRAKES. I HAD MY MECHANIC GO TO THE YARD WHERE THE CAR WAS STORED AND READ THE COMPUTER AND THIS IS WHAT HE FOUND: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FIND P0430 EVAP SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR HIGH INPUT AND IN THE HISTORY HE FOUND 2 CODES: THE SAME P0430 AND B2799 ENGINE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM FAULT. SO AS IT SEEMS NOW THE CAR DID SHUT OFF AND SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING OR BRAKES DUE TO NOT HAVING POWER. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST REPORT OF THIS HAPPENING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HER. THE CONTACT STATED SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HER WAS FLIPPED AND LANDED UPSIDE DOWN. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. SHE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK WITH ADDITIONAL BRUISING. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR ALL SEASON TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE SITTING IDLE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED RESULTING IN A CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT WAS NOT EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE BODY DAMAGE ONLY. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES WHERE AN UNKNOWN SERVICE WAS PERFORMED ON THE THROTTLE. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR SINCE THE THROTTLE REPAIR. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE WEARING PREMATURELY. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE TIRES EXHIBITED PREMATURE WEAR. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AND THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE AND IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, HE WOULD HAVE TO APPLY STEADY, REPEATED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES BEFORE THEY WOULD ENGAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.

I PRESENTLY OWN A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA AND A 2008 SUBARU OUTBACK . I NOTICED THAT ON BOTH VEHICLES WHEN I START THE ENGINES THE DASH LIGHT COME ON WHICH IS FINE BUT IF ONE GETS OUT AND WALKS AROUND THE VEHICLE ONE SEES THE FRONT DRIVING LIGHTS ARE ON BUT THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I MENTION THIS BECAUSE I LIVE IN NORTH OF SEATTLE AND THE WEATHER IS INCLEMENT MANY DAYS OF THE YEAR. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING ON I-5 AND IT IS RAINING , MANY TIMES I CANNOT SEE THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF MINE DO TO THE RAIN MIST AND MOSTLY BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE REAR OF THEIR VEHICLE. IS A NEWER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF MINE . AS I PASS THEM I CAN SEE THAT THE FRONT RUNNING LIGHT ARE ON BUT NO LIGHTS ARE ON IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD WHICH NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . IT COULD BE CORRECTED THROUGH RECALLS BUT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT THE FACTORY DURING THE DESIGN PROCESS. I HAVE TALKED THIS OVER WITH MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND THEY ALL AGREE THAT I AM RIGHT IN MY ASSESSMENT. MOST OF THE DRIVER THAT I REPORT THIS TO DO ARE NOT AWARE OF THE FACT THAT THEIR TAIL LIGHTS ARE NOT ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THE TAIL LIGHTS ONLY COME ON WHEN THEY ARE MANUALLY TURNED ON WITH THE DASH SWITCH ON THE STALK. I AM NOT SURE OF WHEN THIS DESIGN FLAW WAS CREATED OR WITH WHAT YEAR VEHICLE BUT I WOULD SUSPECT THAT IT IS OCCURRING ON 90% OF THE NEWER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. SOME LIVES COULD CERTAINLY BE SAVED BY HAVING THE TAIL LIGHT COME ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED JUST AS THE DRIVING LIGHTS ARE ACTIVATED WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED. COULD ALSO BE REMEDIED BY NOT HAVING THE DRIVING LIGHTS OR THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON UNTIL THEY ARE MANUALLY ACTIVATED BY THE DRIVER. THANK YOU. *TR

I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA LE. EARLIER THIS MONTH, I LOST ALL BUT AN EXTREMELY MINIMAL AMOUNT OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. I NURSED THE CAR TO MY HOME AND CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BY TELEPHONE AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM. OVER THE PHONE, THE SERVICE PERSON WITH WHOM I SPOKE SAID THAT HE BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH ONE OF THE CAR'S COMPUTERS. HE INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM I DESCRIBED WAS NOT UNIQUE, BUT THAT I SHOULD BRING IT IN FOR FORMAL DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. WHEN I HAD THE CAR TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE PERSONNEL VERIFIED THAT ONE OF THE CAR'S COMPUTERS HAD TO BE REPLACED. I SPOKE WITH TWO OF THE SERVICE PERSONNEL AT THE TIME AND BOTH GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT UNUSUAL FOR THAT YEAR'S COROLLA LE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADDED GLUE TO HOLD THE SOCKET IN PLACE; HOWEVER, IT CAME APART. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED HER THAT THE DESIGN WAS CHANGED. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD NOT ENTERED HIGHWAY IN CENTRAL PA WITH INTERSTATE TRUCKERS USUALLY MOVING AT 80MPH.I WOULD BE DEAD. THE CAR JUST COMPLETELY CAME TO AN IMMEDIATE HALT. MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE WOULD NOT STOP WHEN I EXITED OFF I-5 AT THE 128TH ST EXIT NEAR MILLCREEK WA. THE ENGINE WAS RACING AND I FLOORED THE BRAKE AND THREW THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO AVOID A HUGE CRASH INTO THE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2006 AND THE COMPUTER HAS HAD TO HAVE TWO REPLACEMENTS. THE CAR WOULD NOT RUN WITHOUT WARNING AND HAS HAD TO BE TOWED. I AM FEARFUL OF MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY PASSENGERS IN THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD LITTLE EXPLANATION AT THE DEALERSHIP EXCEPT THAT THIS IS 'RARE'. WAS DRIVING DOWN AN DECLINE IN THE ROAD AND WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE GENTLY DUE TO STOP LIGHT AT THE ONCOMING INTERSECTION, WHICH I SAW THAT WAS RED, BUT IT CHANGED TO GREEN AND I REAPPLIED THE GAS AT THIS TIME. THEN , I HEARD A GREAT LOUD NOISE AND THIS THING WAS IN MY FACE, AND I COULD NOT SEE . I KNEW THAT I NEEDED TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD, BUT I WAS FIGHTING THE AIRBAG TO SEE THE ROAD AND TO PREVENT ME FROM HITTING A CAR IN FRONT, I USED MY RIGHT HAND TO FIGHT THE AIRBAG AND MY LEFT TO STEER THE CAR. AT THIS POINT I WAS THINKING I HAD PASSED THE INTERSECTION WHICH HAD A SMALL AREA FOR FLOWERS OR SIGNS, HAD A 4-6 CURB, BUT WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL TOWARD THE RIGHT TO GET OFF THE ROAD I RAN UPON THE MEDIAN( ACROSS THE CURB WHICH WAS 4-6 INCHES IN HEIGHT, AND THIS DAMAGED THE TIRE RIMS . THEY WERE BEND AND DAMAGED THE TIRES , ALL FOUR WENT FLAT. I STILL MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO SAFETY WITHOUT ANY REAL INJURY TO MYSELF. I AM STILL IN DAZE WITH THIS FREAK OCCURRENCE. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCE D ANYTHING LIKE THIS. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OTHERS., BUT MAINLY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAUSED THIS. I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE ON 06-26-06. ON 02-05-07 VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT STILL DIDN'T START. I CALLED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HE TOLD ME TO GET A JUMP OFF BECAUSE IT WAS THE BATTERY DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER. I GOT A JUMP OFF AND IT STILL WOULD START. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND HE TOLD ME TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I DID THAT AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE NEEDED ALL KEYS TO SEE IF IT WAS THE KEYS AND IT WASN'T. HE THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS AND IT WASN'T. THEN HE SAID IT WAS THE COMPUTER. THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AND I STILL HAVE TROUBLE CRANKING IT NOW. I WOULD TURN THE KEY AND IT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, IT WOULD CRANK. BEFORE THIS INCIDENCE, IN JULY 2006, NOT EVEN A MONTH AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE, MY BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING AND THEY STILL DO NOW. THE ROTOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. EACH TIME I TAKE IT FOR SERVICING, I'M TOLD THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS WITH NO RESPONSE. NOW I'VE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT. *JB
