The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 MPH a second vehicle crashed into the front driver's side of the vehicle. During the crash, the front driver's side air bag deployed and the contact sustained multiple fractured ribs and a left ankle injury which required medical treatment. The contact indicated that upon the vehicle's impact, the air bag did not immediately deploy and was delayed contributing to the rib injuries sustained. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 168,841.

MY COROLLA'S ACCELERATOR STICKS FROM TIME TO TIME. THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM WAS FOR 2009 AND LATER MODEL YEARS BUT STILL AFFECTS THE 2008 MODEL. TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE ANY ACTION SHORT OF CHARGING TO FIX THIS ISSUE EVEN THOUGH DEATHS HAVE BEEN REPORTED FOR THIS PROBLEM.

WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE TO GO SHOPPING AROUND 1 PM. IT WAS CLEAR AND SUNNY AT THE TIME OF ACCIDENT. THERE WAS A SPEED BUMP RIGHT BEFORE THE PARKING SPOT SO THE CAR WAS GOING SLOW AND AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING THE SPOT THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED CAUSING US TO HIT A BRICK WALL. I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO THE PARKING SPOT. CAR WAS DAMAGED TO THE FRONT END AND THE WALL TO THE STRIP CENTER. MY MOM WAS 89 YEARS OLD WAS SHAKEN UP AND CHECKED OUT IN THE HOSPITAL. THANKFULLY SHE WAS OK. MY HUSBAND CAME TO CHECK THE CAR AND IT WAS DRIVABLE SO HE TOOK IT TO FRED HASS TOYOTA IN SPRING, TEXAS. THEY TOLD US IT COULD BE UP TO 2 WEEKS BEFORE THEY SHOW UP TO CHECK THE CAR. HE CALLED TOYOTA AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THEY GAVE US A CLAIM NUMBER AND TOLD US THEY WOULD CALL US SATURDAY BEFORE NOON. WE NEVER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL AND I HOPE THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF OUR CLAIM. I WILL NOT BE DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN. 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE CONTROL MODULE RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. HOWEVER, WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THE SERIAL NUMBER WAS NOT ON THE LIST, TO HAVE THE ECM REPLACED. ON APRIL 26, 2013, WHILE THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. SHE WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. WHEN THEY ENTERED THE VIN NUMBER INTO THE COMPUTER, IT SHOWED THE ECM HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT WAS INCORRECT, AS HE HAD THE RECEIPTS AND RECALL NOTICE. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM SHOWED THE SAME INFORMATION. IT WAS DISCOVERED THE FIRST DEALER, ENTERED THE INFORMATION INCORRECTLY. THE DEALER STATED THE ECM WAS COVERED BY TOYOTA. HOWEVER, THE PART HAD TO ORDERED. THE CONSUMER FINALLY RECEIVED A CALL, FROM THE DEALER, THAT THE PART HAD ARRIVED AND HAD BEEN REPLACED.

WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE FAILED AGAIN AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH. THE CRASH OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. WITH THE LAST INCIDENT BEING 2 DAYS AGO, I FINALLY HAD A CHANCE TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE SHOP TODAY. THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD ABOUT 5 INCIDENTS OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHEN MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. ONE TIME RECENTLY IT HAPPENED ON A FLAT ROAD AS I WAS APPROACHING A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO TURN INTO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC, CUTTING SOME ONE OFF BUT NO COLLISION TOOK PLACE. TWO DAYS AGO IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED ON A HILL FACING DOWN THE HILL. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE IT DID NOT BRAKE THE CAR, INSTEAD I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REV UP AND PULL FORWARD. THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED ALSO ON THE PREVIOUS 3 TIMES. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW. I AM SINGLE AND DISABLED AND JUST FINISHED PAYING OFF THIS CAR. I DON'T WANT TO SELL THE CAR AND HAVE SOMEONE DIE BECAUSE I SOLD IT TO THEM. I BOUGHT A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA CE BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER. ONLY A FEW MONTHS AFTER, I STARTED HEARING A VERY LOUD CLUNKING SOUND IN THE BRAKES WHEN I BACKUP AND BRAKE AND THEN WHEN I PULL FORWARD AND BRAKE. IT IS AN ALARMING SOUND SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IT WAS PURCHASED FROM AT LEAST THREE TIMES SINCE AND THEY SAY IT'S THE BRAKE PADS SLIDING WHEN I BRAKE. THEY SAY THE ONLY THING THEY CAN DO FOR ME IS GREASE THEM, WHICH THEY HAVE DONE EACH TIME BUT IT KEEPS RETURNING. I CALLED ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT IT AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING DOWN AN INCLINE APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 40-45 ON WET ROAD SURFACES, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AND SUDDENLY THE COMPRESSION BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATED. THE FRONT WHEELS BEGAN TO LOCK RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE TO SKID SIDEWAYS. WHEN THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO THE NEUTRAL POSITION THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GAIN COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN ENCOUNTERING WET, ICY OR SNOW COVERED ROADS THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A PROBLEM AND INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE. AN INCIDENT REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,500.

WE GOT THE RECALL NOTICES FOR OUR TWO 2008 COROLLAS.. FOR THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V384000.. THEN WE GOT THE OTHER LETTER SAYING THAT WE CAN GO AND GET OUR CARS SERVICED. WE DID AND THERE THEY TOLD US THAT BOTH OUR CARS WERENT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. YET WHILE WE WHERE WAITING TO BE CALLED UP ONE OF THE MECHANICS TOLD ME THAT BOTH OUR CARS NEEDED TO GET WHATEVER THEY WHERE GOING TO DO TO THEM DONE.. EVER SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, FOR BOTH CARS.. WE HAVE SPENT A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TRYING TO PASS SMOG CHECKS IN CALIFORNIA... ARE THERE ANY I DONT KNOW RECORDS OF WHAT CIRCUIT BOARDS HAD THAT PROBLEM? I WANT FOR MY MECHANIC TO CHECK IF INDEED THE BOARD WE HAVE ON OUR CARS WASNT A PART OF THE RECALL OR IF WE GOT SCREWED... I HAD TO REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT, BECAUSE IT WAS SQUEAKING (DRY AND CRACKED); I COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA ABOUT HAVING TO REPLACE IT AFTER SUCH A SHORT TIME BUT WAS TOLD BASICALLY THAT THEY DIDN'T CARE, SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD ONGOING - AND I THOUGHT UNRELATED - ISSUES WITH THE GEARS SLIPPING BUT COULDN'T IDENTIFY A CAUSE. IN JANUARY 2015, I HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE GEARS SLIPPED. ON JULY 17, 2015, I HAD THE SERPENTINE BELT REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME, BECAUSE IT WAS STARTING TO SQUEAK AGAIN. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THE NEW BELT, NOT MADE BY TOYOTA, SOLVED THE OTHER PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH SHIFTING (MY CAR IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION). IT WAS HIS OPINION THAT THE BELT WAS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE THE TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID IS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY ON THE TRANSMISSION WHICH IS CAUSING THESE ISSUES. THE DRIVER SIDE AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLY UNEXPECTEDLY SNAPPED WHEN I WENT TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO FIRST GEAR WHEN A LIGHT FOR WHICH I WAS STOPPED TURNED GREEN. THERE WAS ENOUGH OF A CONNECTION FOR ME TO GET OFF THE BUSY RUSH HOUR ROAD BEFORE BEING STRUCK AND KILLED OR HURT BY OTHER VEHICLES. IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHERE THEY INDICATED THE SHAFT HAD SNAPPED AND REPLACED IT. THEY DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CLUTCH OR TRANSMISSION (5 SPEED MANUAL). THE SERVICE REP IDENTIFIED THE CAUSE AS A CUT BOOT (SHAFT SEAL) WHICH ALLOWED GREASE TO COME OUT AND DIRT TO GET INTO THE JOINT CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE REP NOTED THIS WAS "COMMON". I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY WARNING FOR THE CONDITION. HE NOTED THERE IS NONE. THE CAR IS REGULARLY SERVICED (THIS WAS NOTED BY THE REP); NO ABNORMAL CONDITIONS WITH THE SHAFT SEAL WERE NOTED IN ANY SERVICE VISIT. A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF A AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLY THAT RENDERS THE CAR IMMOVABLE WITHOUT WARNING IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND IS NOT COMMON. IT RISKS THE LIVES OF ANYONE IN THE CAR OR ON THE ROAD NEAR IT WHEN THE SHAFT FAILS. I HAVE NEVER HAD A AXLE SHAFT FAIL ON ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED AND DRIVEN. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT AND/OR FLAW WITH DESIGN, MATERIAL SPECIFICATION, MANUFACTURING PROCESS, AND/OR THE QUALITY OF THIS COMPONENT. I CONTACTED TOYOTA TO REPORT THE ISSUE. THEY SAID TO WORK WITH THE DEALER ON INSPECTIONS; I NOTED I HAVE. THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE INHERENT LARGE SAFETY CONCERN WITH SUCH A FAILURE. The ODO meter of my Corolla 2008 model has not been functioning since around November 2021 when it stopped at 299,999 mile. Recently in August 2022, I asked a Toyota dealership, named Fox Toyota located in Rochester Hills, MI, to fix the issue, but they told me they couldn't do it and I needed to look for other repair shop. Then I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement Center and requested them to fix because it appeared to be a Toyota manufacturing or design issue. They also refused their responsibility to do the repair. I attach the photos of ODO meter and vehicle. Please have Toyota take corrective actions on this issue. Thank you for your support in advance.

The plastic fuel tank has a heat shield below it that keeps the fuel tank from getting too hot, and from debris hitting it. There is a strap that goes around the fuel tank. The heat shield has this plastic piece that holds on to the strap. On my car, this plastic piece snapped off and the heat shield was rattling loose against the exhaust pipe and exposing the fuel tank. I took my car to a Toyota dealer (Glen Mills, PA) and was told the only way to fix that plastic piece is to replace the whole heat shield and fuel tank strap. Even though this was due to their defective piece. I was told it would be $950 for this repair. I was forced to deny the repair due to the obscene price tag and took it to a dealer for a temporary fix until Toyota can be reasonable with their price. Upon further research, this plastic piece is known to break off on this type of car frequently. After watching many videos and going through many forums of people having the same issue, it seems Toyota is known for charging an outrageous price for this. To me, it appears they know this piece is defective and will be recalled at some point, and are trying to make money off of unsuspecting people. I would appreciate this being investigated further.

I SMELL GAS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON THE CAR CUTS OUT THEN ACTS LIKE IT GOES INTO A LOW GEAR. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING. SO FAR NOTHING MAJOR HAS HAPPENED BUT WHO KNOWS WHEN IT COULD CHANGE. THIS STARTED OVER A YEAR AGO. WE HAD IT CHECKED AND IT SHOWED 5 CODES WHICH INDICATED THE CHARCOAL FUEL FILTER CANISTER WAS BAD. WE WAS TOLD THE COST OF THE PART WOULD BE $300.00 AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THEY HAVE HAD A LOT OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH IT AND HAVE REPLACED A LOT IF THEM AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE WHICH IS BETWEEN $300-$500 WITH LABOR COST. TOYOTA HAD RECALLED THIS PART UP TO 2006 BUT NOT BEYOND. WE HAVE CHECKED INTO THIS AND THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WE HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CORP AND HAVE A CASE # 1405291178. WE CONTACTED THEM TODAY AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD HAVE TO JUST LIVE WITH IT. WE FEEL THIS ISN'T RIGHT. WE ARE SENIOR CITIZENS AND ON A FIXED INCOME. WE CAN'T AFFORD THIS. TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THIS PART BUT WE CAN'T GET ANYTHING DONE. ON AUG. 1, 2008 I BOUGHT A CERTIFIED USED 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH 5,420 MILES ON IT FROM MANHATTAN BEACH TOYOTA, IN MANHATTAN BEACH, CA. AFTER DRIVING IT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, I REALIZED THERE WAS SOMETHING TROUBLING ABOUT THE ACCELERATOR. WHENEVER I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO MAKE A STANDING START -- WHEN A TRAFFIC SIGNAL TURNED GREEN, FOR EXAMPLE -- THE CAR WOULD OFTEN LURCH FORWARD IN AN UNCONTROLLABLE MANNER. I SOON TRACED THE PROBLEM TO THE POSITION OF MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. IF MY FOOT WAS IN JUST THE RIGHT POSITION -- LOW TO MIDWAY ON THE PEDAL, WITH MY HEEL CLOSEST TO THE FLOOR -- I HAD COMPLETE CONTROL. I am the original owner of my car since the end of 2007. For some strange reason, my car just suddenly started to show large signs of rust on the roof. This is apparently a very common issue with the similar timeframe of model years. This is a manufacturing defect from the beginning as Toyota did not properly paint the car properly.

THE CAR I HAVE REFERENCED HAD A RECALL FOR THE ECM UNIT IN 2011. THE UNIT WAS REPLACED (6/29/2011) FOR CAR NOT STARTING OR STOPPING AND SHUTTING OFF. SOLDERING BAD CAUSING CRACKS IN BOARD. ON 10/3/2011 THE CAR HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD SOMETIMES TURN OVER BUT NOT START, THEN 30 MIN OR SO THE CARD WOULD START. NOW THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING. I HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN IN MY CAR OVER NIGHT. I STOPPED AT A STORE, TURN OFF THE CAR WENT INSIDE FOR 10 MIN. THIS WAS AROUND 6:00 PM CAME BACK OUT CAR WOULD NOT START UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING AROUND 8:15 AM. I SLEPT IN MY CAR SO I DID NOT HAVE TO LEAVE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR IN A PARKING LOT! EVERYONE SEEMS TO IGNORE WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE. THIS IS REPETITIVE FOR THIS CAR. YOU ALREADY HAVE A A COMPLAINT FROM A PERSON DATED 2010 WHERE HIS ECM HAD TO BE REPLACED TWO TO THREE TIMES AND HE IS STILL UNHAPPY. AT LEAST MY CAR HAS GONE A LITTLE LONGER THAN HIS HAD. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT PASSENGER WINDOW HAS BROKEN. THE BREAK IS IN THE GLASS DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT IN HOW THE POWER WINDOW LIFT TRACK ATTACHES TO THE GLASS. THE WINDOW IS DESIGNED WITH TABS THAT FIT INTO THE LIFT MECHANISM. EACH TIME THE WINDOW BREAKS, IT IS THE TAB THAT IS SNAPPING OFF ON ONE SIDE OF THE WINDOW. THIS CAUSES THE WINDOW TO NOT BE OPERATIONAL. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO LOWER THE WINDOW, SINCE IT'S NOT SUPPORTED FULLY BY THE TRACK, IT WILL ANGLE OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND IF YOU CONTINUE TO OPERATE THE OPEN FUNCTION IT WOULD SNAP THE WINDOW. TOYOTA REIMBURSED ME FOR THE 1ST OCCURRENCE AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW WINDOW. NOW IT'S HAPPENED A 2ND TIME. IT WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE NEEDING TO ESCAPE THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY IF THE WINDOW CAN NOT BE ROLLED DOWN. THE WINDOW HAS NOT YET BEEN REPLACED. UPON STARTING MY CAR, ON THIS PARTICULAR MORNING, I NOTICED A REVVING SOUND. IT DIDN'T SOUND LIKE ANYTHING NORMALLY RELATED TO START-UP, BUT I ASSUMED THAT MAYBE IT WAS A MOMENTARY GLITCH. I SWITCHED THE CAR INTO REVERSE AND THE REVVING SOUND INCREASED. IT SOUNDED AS IF SOMEONE HAD FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR. (I WAS LATER ASKED HOW MANY MPH. TO ME, IT SOUNDED AS THOUGH I WERE GOING ABOUT 50 MPH.) WHILE IN REVERSE, AND WITH THE INCREASING REVVING SOUND AND RPM, MY BRAKES LOCKED ON ME AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT BACK INTO PARK AND SHUT OFF THE CAR. I CONTACTED TOYOTA TO INQUIRE ABOUT ANY RECALLS ON MY CAR AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD TAKEN PLACE. I WAS TOLD BY THE CORPORATION THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND TO BRING IT IN FOR SERVICING TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP PULLED UP A SERVICE HISTORY REPORT SHOWING THAT THEY HAD DONE A RECALL REPAIR ON MY CAR SEVERAL YEARS EARLIER. THEY DISMISSED MY CLAIM, SAYING THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THAT IT WAS DRIVER ERROR. THE SERVICE MANAGER REFUSED TO SUBMIT A REPORT FOR INVESTIGATION INTO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, STATING THAT HE BELIEVED THAT AN INCREASE IN RPM IS UNRELATED TO ACCELERATION. SINCE, I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IT WOULD MAKE NOISE RATTLE LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE. A RUN AWAY FULL THROTTLE ENGINE IN A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA (PURCHASED IN FALL OF 2007). I ACCIDENTALLY BACKED UP INTO A TREE AT 2 TO 3 MPH. THE REAR BUMPER OF THE CAR HIT THE TREE SQUARELY CAUSING NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO CAR. THE ENGINE OF THE CAR DID NOT DIE OUT AFTER THE IMPACT. UPON SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE -- THE CAR LURCHED FULL SPEED FORWARD (WITH FULL ACCELERATION) DESPITE FULL APPLICATION OF THE FOOT BRAKE AND NO APPLICATION OF THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS DECELERATING WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. I FOUND OUT THE CAR I PURCHASED FROM A DEALER IS GIVING ME PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES BEAKS AND ALIGNMENT. THE CAR HAD WRONG SIZE TIRES , THE BREAKS WERE UNEVEN ALSO WHEN I WOULD DRIVE OVER A PUDDLE IT WOULD SHAKE. I SPEND MONEY ON GETTING NEW TIRES PAYING FOR ALIGNMENT AND THE PROBLEMS CONTINUES, I FOUND THE AXLE AND POWER STEERING RACK WITH PART PROBLEMS. THAT NEED FIXING ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOT CENTERED AND THE WHEEL HUB HAS BROKEN ITS BOLTS I THINK ITS A FAULTY MANUFACTURE ISSUE. THE TMPS HAS ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH LIGHTING UP ON THE DASH BOARD AND NOT TURNING OFF TMPS I THINK IS THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE WHEELS.

TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE COLLAPSED VIOLENTLY TO THE GROUND. MY CAR HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING AFTER GETTING THE NEW BATTERY LAST MONTH, AND A COUPLE DAYS AGO MY ENGINE STALLED AS I SLOWED IT DOWN TO STOP IN THE BUSY TRAFFIC ROAD WHILE I WAS GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT CHECKED. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP ASSUMING THAT A WRONG BATTERY WAS INSTALLED, BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD ECM. I HAD TO GET IT FIXED BY PAYING OVER $800. THE THING IS THE ECM UNIT IN MY CAR WAS A REPLACED ONE IN THE PAST AS THE TOYOTA RECALLED IT. I WAS DRIVING IN THE COUNTRY WITH MY DAUGHTER. I WAS DRIVING SLOW BECAUSE I HAD NEVER DRIVEN THAT ROAD BEFORE AND THERE WAS A SPEED LIMIT 30 AND THE 45 MPH. THERE WAS A STOP SIGN WHERE I NEEDED TO TURN RIGHT. I STARTED SLOWING DOWN BUT THE CAR WOULD COMPLETE THE STOP. SO, I TURNED RIGHT AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND GOT OUT OF CONTROL. IT WAS ACCELERATING AND MOVING LEFT AND RIGHT LIKE CRAZY. I TRIED TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHT BUT I WASN'T ABLE TO DO THAT BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF CONTROL. THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK EITHER. THERE WERE SMALL HILLS ON THE BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD THAT'S WHY THE CAR KEPT DRIVING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. PROBABLY 3000-4000 FEET FROM THE STOP SIGN THERE WAS A BIG IRON GATE LEADING TO THE PASTURE. RECENTLY, I RECEIVED A NOTICE OF A CIVIL LAWSUIT FROM OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS WITH MY VIN NUMBER ( LAST 4 DIGITS) DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE THAT HAS CAUSED CAR CRASHES DUE INVOLUNTARY ACCELERATION. I HAVE CALLED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IN HOLLYWOOD, FL ON TAFT STREET AND 441, SPOKE WITH AN EMPLOYEE WHO CONFIRMED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR ADJUSTMENT AT NO COST. I TOOK THE CAR IN ON SATURDAY, APRIL 5, SPOKE WITH ANOTHER EMPLOYEE WHO ADVISED THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR MY CAR, WILL HAVE IT CHECKED ANYWAY. I HAD MY TOYOTA COROLLA 08 SERVICED ON 4/5/11 DUE TO A RECALL FOR THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. AFTER THE TOYOTA DEALER LOOKED AT THEY DETERMINED IT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO "LOT #7238" AND ON 8-21-2012 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM JUST CUT OFF. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF HER AT A DISTANCE AND IT STARTED TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTROL IT AND MANAGE TO PARK AT THE MEDIAN. DEALER HAD CAR CHECKED BY A TECHNICIAN, HE COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE & SAID I SHOULD LEAVE IT FOR COMPLETE INSPECTION AT $98/HR. I TOLD CUSTOMER RELATIONS MGR I COULD NOT PAY IT. HE HAD THE CAR INSPECTED AGAIN, THIS TIME BY HEAD MECHANIC AT WORKSHOP ABT 20 MINUTES. HE SAID CAR WAS OK & COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE. 4/28/10 I FAXED ALL IN DETAIL TO TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA INC, TORRANCE, CA, DEPT WC11 (CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER). 04/29/10, THEY EMAILED "DUE TO HIGH CONTACT VOLUME, WE ARE UNABLE TO RESPOND TO YOUR INQUIRY IN A TIMELY MANNER AND IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE TO YOUR INQUIRY". 4/27/10, I EMAILED "TOYOTA OWNERS MEMBER REGISTRATION" & REGISTERED MYSELF AS TOYOTA MEMBER. THEN, I REPORTED MY PROBLEM. 05/04/10 TOYOTA CALLED, A LADY ASKED ME TO RECOUNT MY STORY, AGAIN & AGAIN, OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO WORN ME OUT. SHE SAID SHE HAD NOT SEEN MY ORIGINAL REPORT, SO I FAXED HER COPY OF MY FAX 5/04/10 & ASKED HER HELP. 05/04/10, SHE EMAILED: I SHOULD CONTACT DEALERSHIP. "IF THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERS A WARRANTY CONCERN, ALL FEES WILL BE COVERED, OTHERWISE YOU WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS RELATED TO THE INSPECTION....." S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING-MEMO TO THE SECRETARY FROM -PETITION FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO TOYOTA'S SAFETY SYSTEM FAILURES (FULL DOCUMENT NOT IMAGED) *TGW THE CONSUMER HIT A LARGE DEAR AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE SAW THE DEER, HE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO SLOW DOWN, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND, SO HE TRIED TO MAINTAIN THE SPEED HE HAD BEEN DRIVING. I HEARD RATTLING WHICH I THOUGHT WAS FROM MY TRUNK. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO LOCATE THE RATTLE, I DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS MY BACK WINDOW. THERE IS A SEAL FAILURE AND YOU CAN LITERALLY LIFT THE REAR WINDOW IN MY 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT I SHOULDN'T WAIT TO GET THIS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP ALSO SAID THEY WOULD REPAIR THE SEAL, BUT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PART THAT GOES AROUND THE REAR WINDOW AND THAT MY 100,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THIS. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT PART DOES NOT GO ALL THE WAY AROUND THE REAR WINDOW, LEAVES THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW EXPOSED AND THUS THE POSSIBILITY FOR THIS TO OCCUR ON ALL OF THESE VEHICLES AS WELL AS REOCCUR ON THIS ONE. YESTERDAY MORNING I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY UP TO A STOP SIGN. I DOWNSHIFTED AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT COME TO A STOP. I HAD TO ROLL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I CONTINUED ON. I WAS DRIVING 30 MPH IN A 40 MPH ZONE. I AGAIN SLOWED DOWN AND DOWNSHIFTED TO TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY. THE BRAKES AGAIN FAILED. IT FELT AS THOUGH I COULD NOT PRESS DOWN HARD ENOUGH ON THE BRAKES TO STOP. I COULD NOT TURN OUT OF THE WAY OF A GARBAGE CAN AND PILE OF ROCKS, JUST MISSING A MAILBOX. THERE IS NOW MINOR, COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAS INCONSISTENTLY OCCURRED OVER THE LAST YEAR. SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, I BROUGHT IT BACK DUE TO THE BRAKES NOT FEELING RIGHT, AND A METAL ON METAL SOUND THAT OCCURRED WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES. TOYOTA LOOKED AT THE BRAKES AND SAID THAT THEY WERE BEHAVING NORMALLY. AGAIN, THIS MORNING I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN BECAUSE I COULD NOT CONTROL IT IN YESTERDAY'S INCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, HE HEARD A WINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. APPROXIMATELY FOUR WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A WINDING SOUND. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WHEELS CAUSED THE INNER WALLS OF THE TIRES TO DISINTEGRATE. IN ADDITION, THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE CONTINUOUS BECAUSE THE TIRES AND WHEELS WERE AFTERMARKET AND THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR AS PART OF THE WARRANTY.
