The contact owns a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The contact stated that while her son was attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, no cause for the failure was found. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the undercarriage and subframe were severely corroded. The contact was informed that the vehicle should not be driven because the wheels might detach from the vehicle. The vehicle remained with the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 185,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The contact stated that after it had rained, the front driver's side seat belt was wet, even though the windows were rolled up and the doors were closed securely. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 00707 (Structure); however, the vehicle was not included in the TSB. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

-Toyota recalled the vehicles using the same/similar frame has the same rusty issues, like Tacoma. This recalled made me pay attention on this issue and I found the my FJ cruiser is no longer 100% safe while driving. -The frame of the body is very rusty after years which is not normal. I believe most owners of this model having the same issue. There are rust everywhere under the body, when change some parts, it was really hard to do so, need the fire gun to burn all the screws. And the exhaust system all rusty and leaked as well, cost me a lot of money to fix. -The frame may broken anytime while driving which is risky to me and my passengers. -No dealers would like to fix that frame for me unless to pay a huge amount of Labour costs, which is higher than the value of the car. -it has been inspected by more than 5 car specialists and body shop workers, saying that frame is dying and won’t last for long, maybe will completely broken in a few years. -There is no issues on mechanics, just the under body rust. It happened a lot of years maybe 5-7 years before. -I’m from Canada.

I own a 2007 FJ Cruiser with very low mileage (below 80,000). It has a terrible carriage rust problem. I thought I'd had it remediated, finally, after endlessly searching for someone to address it. Dry ice treatment and undercoating were applied recently. I replaced the wheels and tires, as well. All seemed well and it passed inspection. But, then the power steering started stiffening. So I had that attended to. The mechanic then told me the rack and pinion and a plethora of other issues were happening due to rust and corrosion - at an additional $$$$$$ cost. So far, this summer, I have spent close to $5,000 to resurrect this vehicle. I can't afford to invest anymore or justify doing so. I am looking to sell. But first I am investigating the FJ class-action against Toyota. I understand this class-action was denied in part last year in California. I plan to check any legal status that might still exist. My hope is that Toyota will acknowledge the problem with the FJs, recall and FIX the problem or at least reimburse me all my repair/remediation expenses. I know they won't do anything unless there is a lot of pressure and outcry to do so. Although, my FJ spent the first 16 years of its life in NJ (which many claim is the cause and of course is plausible - I don't disagree but not to this degree), it was not driven that much, garaged and well cared for. I did not really notice the rust issue until January 2021 when I took it to the local Toyota dealership. I think I was taking it there for an oil change. They were surprised that I'd driven it there because the brakes were so bad. I had it towed home and spent the next many months searching for someone to fix it. No one wanted to touch it until this summer 2023. The gentleman who dry iced and coated informed me about the lawsuit. I never received any kind of notice (thus far) from Toyota about any recall. took the vehicle to a toyota dealership which stated the frame is dangerous and rusted very badly. they told me to file a complaint since the delaer was not covered under the lemon law

I OWN TWO 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISERS, AND BOTH OF THE WINDSHIELDS HAVE CRACKED. I'VE LOOKED UP ON SEVERAL FORUMS, BLOGS, ETC..., IN REGARDS TO THIS PROBLEM AND IT SEEM THAT MANY OTHER TOYOTA FJ CRUISER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THE DESIGN AND THE QUALITY OF THE WINDSHIELDS THEY INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES ARE SUB STANDARD AND HINDER THE SAFETY OF THESE VEHICLES IN AN ACCIDENTAL ROLLOVER. TOYOTA FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM AND BLAMES ROAD DEBRIS FOR THIS PROBLEM. ROAD DEBRIS DURING NORMAL COMMUTE HIGHWAY DRIVING HAS RESULTED IN MULTIPLE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL CRACKS IN THE WINDSHIELD. TOYOTA FJ CRUISER WINDSHIELD CRACKS AND CHIPS EASILY. WE'VE HAD OUR FJ FOR TWO YEARS AND ARE ON OUR 4TH WINDSHIELD. THE SMALLEST BIT OF DEBRIS CREATES A CHIP AND SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO BEGIN TO CRACK AT THE DRIVERS SIDE FOR NO REASON. DEALER OFFERS NO SOLUTION EXCEPT TO CHARGE $500 A POP TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AS IT IS MENTIONED ON NUMEROUS WEB BLOGS AND FORUMS. While towing my boat, the rear frame to which the trailer hitch is a part of, ripped down both side of the frame. Basically, the rear frame of the truck is barley holding on by rust. The hitch and frame section are dangling down. Rust has completely eaten through the entire frame after closer inspection.

The frame on my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser has severe corrosion, compromising it's roadworthiness and the safety of occupants. It is available for inspection. Frame would not protect occupants during a crash, and may fail during normal operation. The problem has been confirmed by two independent mechanics. It has not been further inspected. There were no warning lamps or symptoms until discovered by mechanic. Anecdotal information seems to indicate broad and serious corrosion problems with FJ Cruiser frames, but no warnings, recalls, or service bulletins have been issued.

This is a 2007 vehicle I have owned since 2009. One of the two Fuel Tank straps broke in April of 2021. This left one strap holding the tank in place. This happened while driving allowing the tank to drag on ground. I stopped before it became a more serious problem. The strap was completely rusted through. Both straps were replaced. The remaining strap had serious rust as well.

I was hauling a hitch hauler in my hitch which was carrying a portable fish house that weighed approximately 80 lb. As I was leaving the parking lot, I heard a loud clunk noise in which when I look back the hitch hauler and my fish house were laying on the road. The vehicle behind me had to swerve out of the way. I had to haul the fish house to the side of the road and as I was inspecting my vehicle realized the hitch and the frame were cracked and not usable. I had to leave my equipment there because I had no way of hauling it back. I brought the truck to an auto body repair shop and there he told me that I have extensive damage and my frame was rotten. I paid him to repair the damage to the best of his ability. He said that the frame was too bad and that I would have to bring it to another specialist. Since then the front body mounts have rotted off.

AT 55 MPH, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND RATHER THAN STOPPING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PAD WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. BY PUMPING THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY AND SLOWING TO A POINT I COULD APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. HAD I NEEDED TO STOP QUICKLY, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO. THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED CAUSING THE BRAKING ISSUE. I HAD THE COMPONENT REPLACED AND HAVE HAD NO BRAKING ISSUES SINCE. THE MASTER CYLINDER HAS BEEN RECALLED ON 740,000 TOYOTA VEHICLES, BUT NOT THE FJ CRUISER. ISSUES WITH BRAKING/MASTER CYLINDER HAVE BEEN REPORTING ON WWW.NHTSA.GOV FOR THE 2007 FJ CRUISER, SO THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN MY 2007 FJ CRUISER STARTS TO SHAKE. ALSO SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT MY VEHICLE, AS I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES WHILE BEING AT A STOP LIGHT, IT WOULD JERK AND FEEL AS IF SOMEONE HAD SLIGHTLY BUMPED INTO ME FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THERE WAS CLEARLY NO ONE BEHIND MY VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS QUITE A BIT. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT AS I WAS DRIVING RECENTLY I COMPRESSED THE BRAKES BEFORE ATTEMPTING A TURN AND ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKING ACTION HAPPENED. I WASN'T GOING FAST ENOUGH TO OVERTURN THE VEHICLE, BUT NONE THE LESS IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS THING FOR A VEHICLE SUCH AS THE FJ CRUISER TO MAKE TURNS AT CERTAIN SPEEDS, SO FOR THE BRAKES NOT TO WORK AT AN IMPORTANT TIME CAN CAUSE A SEVERE, IF NOT FATAL ACCIDENT. AS I MADE THE TURN EFFICIENTLY(BY MAKING A WIDER TURN), I TRIED ONCE AGAIN TO USE MY BRAKES IN WHICH THEY FELT LIKE THEY WERE TRYING TO CATCH AGAIN. AT THIS TIME I FELT UNSAFE AND FELT COMPELLED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO GET LOOKED AT AND THEY HAVE STATED AN ISSUE WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER. I HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO LOOK AT VARIOUS SITES AND FORUMS IN WHICH MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE FOR A VEHICLE THAT ALREADY HAS A CAUTION FOR TURNOVERS. MY VEHICLE IS A 2007 WITH UNDER 39,000 MILES ON IT. I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA FJ, IN VARIOUS OCCASIONS WHEN APPLYING MEDIUM HARD PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, I HAVE TWO DIFFERENT BRAKE REACTIONS: 1. THE TIRES WILL LOCK AND SCREECH FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, MOMENTARILY LOOSING CONTROL, I AUTOMATICALLY LET GO OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUSH AGAIN TO REGAIN CONTROL AND THEN THE CAR JUST KEEPS ROLLING LIKE NO BRAKES WERE APPLIED. OR, 2. IF I HAVE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES AND THE ROAD THE CAR HAPPENS TO BE ON IS A BIT ROUGH, WITH GRAVEL, RIDGES OR POTHOLES OR MAYBE JUST A POORLY PATCHED ASPHALT, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JUST ROLL, LIKE NO BRAKE HAS BEEN APPLIED, EVEN THOUGH I AM PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, LIKE LOOSING MOST OF OR ALL BRAKING POWER. LAST EVENT HAPPENED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO WHERE A CAR CUT ME OFF BY A TOLL PAY AREA, I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES HARD JUST AS THE CAR WAS GOING OVER A ROUGH SECTION OF THE ROAD AND IT KEPT ROLLING AS WITH NO BRAKES, AND LITERALLY JUST BY FRACTIONS OF AN INCH DID NOT HIT THE OTHER CAR. I HAVE GONE TO THE DEALER WITH THE COMPLAIN, THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR CHECKING THE PROBLEM, BUT I AM GOING TO HAVE A TOUGH TIME REPRODUCING THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH IT IS PRETTY CONSISTENT, ITS REALLY NOT SAFE TO TRY TO REPRODUCE. WHEN DIFFERENTIAL FAILS IT CAN LOCK UP BOTH WHEELS AT HIGH SPEEDS THUS LOSING CONTROL. THERE ARE OVER 2000 COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND OVER 10000 COMPLAINTS WITH TOYOTA ALONE. PURCHASED FJ CRUISER IN 2010 WITH APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES ON IT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, UPON ACCELERATION AT LOW SPEED, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE STARTED VIBRATING; HOWEVER, THE VIBRATION STOPPED AS I ACCELERATED TO A HIGHER SPEED. I NOTICED THAT THIS ONLY OCCURRED WHEN I STARTED WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN D(RIVE) BUT NEVER OCCURRED IF I STARTED WITH GEAR SHIFT IN D2. COMPLAINED TO DEALERSHIP(TOYOTA SOUTH IN MORROW, GA) WHILE STILL WITHIN THE 60,000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THEY EVEN SUGGESTED THAT I REPLACE MY U-BOLT. IN 2013, AFTER STARTING MY FJ, I HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND, SO I IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT OFF AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO OIL STARVATION. I PARKED THE VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE UNTIL THIS YEAR(2016). I HAD IT TOWED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSIS. HOWEVER, THIS YEAR I'M FINALLY TOLD THAT MY ENGINE IS FINE, BUT I NEED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. THIS IS THE SAME TRANSMISSION THAT I COMPLAINED ABOUT WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. TO MAKES MATTERS EVEN WORSE, THE SHADY DEALERSHIP KEPT NO RECORD OF MY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA'S CORPORATE OFFICE, BUT OF COURSE, THEY PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE.

My fj cruiser has terrible rust on the frame. It literally looks like it was stored in the ocean for 50 years. This vehicle is from 2007 and should not have this much rust.

the frame and associated components are severly corroded putting the vehicle in danger of the back axel detaching . i was informed of this by a repair shop who were concerned of the safety of operating vehicle. there is some type of coverage for related vehicles but not for this model. i think this is the same platform which was recalled under a truck model. toyota refuses any coverage or help for this problem. the vehicle has 70k miles but is unsafe to operate. photos are available. although the top of the vehicle is what you would expect with 70k miles, it is unsafe to operate because the back axel could fall off at any time

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The contact stated upon inspection, the mechanic discovered that severe corrosion had formed on the entire undercarriage of the vehicle. Prior to the discovery, the contact stated that an unknown part had separated and detached from the vehicle in his driveway due to the corrosion. The dealer then took several pictures of the corrosion on the vehicle. The contact was warned by the dealer to not drive off road or use the vehicle to tow due to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Vin was not available.

Our 2007 FJ Cruiser when brought in for annual inspection has been deemed unsafe for use due to crack in frame due to corrosion. The vehicle has no other mechanical issues and runs as if new. We invested in 5 new tires and now find ourselves possibly having to purchase a new vehicle. We witnessed all the other Toyota vehicles frames being replaced due to the recall regarding insufficient undercoating and excessive rust. We inquired if our vehicle was included and if there was reason for concern and were told No. We also own a 2010 Prius which we purchased new. We had no reason to question the validity of the answer. Years later we are grateful we did not experience any incident and crack was discovered before one happened. We now want to know why we did not get a replacement as did all the other models.

I AM ONE OF THE ORIGINAL PURCHASERS OF A 2007 FJ CRUISER IN AUGUST OF 2006. I ORDERED MY VEHICLE IN JULY 2006. I RECEIVED A SCALE MODEL OF MY FJ WITH SERIEL NUMBER BELOW 500, WHICH I WAS TOLD INDICATED THAT I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST 500 PURCHASERS OF THE NEW MODEL I HAD READ ON THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED FJCRUISERFORUMS.COM THAT THE NEW FRAMES WHERE ARRIVING WITH RUST ON THE WELDS. WHEN MY VEHICLE ARRIVED I POINTED OUT RUST ON THE FRAME JUST FROM SHIPPING AND TOLD THE DEALER THAT I NEEDED THE FRAME UNDERCOATED. I ALSO SHOWED THE DEALER THE FJ CRUISER FORUM POSTS THEY COMPLIED. I HAVE USED THIS VEHICLE FOR WORK FOR MANY YEARS. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN ALMOST WEEKLY FOR AN UNDERCARRIAGE WASH IF I WAS USING IT WEEKLY. MOST ALL OF MY MILES ARE HIGHWAY. THE RUST HAS NOT ABATED. I HAVE WIRE BRUSHED THE FRAME MULTIPLE TIMES, SPRAYED IT WITH RUST PREVENTIVE PAINT, SQUIRTED OIL INSIDE THE FRAME. IT STILL HAS NOT STOPPED THE RUST. NOW I FINALLY HAVE A HOLE IN THE FRAME. MY TOYOTA FJ CRUISER ACCELERATES BY ITSELF. TYPICALLY, WHEN IT IS STOPPED AND IDLING, LIKE AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT DOES THIS WHEN EITHER I OR MY MOTHER IS DRIVING IT. I was planning on trading in my FJ Cruiser, so I took it to our local mechanic to look it over. After he put it on the lift, he showed me that the frame and gas tank straps were rusted out and that it wasn't safe to drive. I took it to another body repair shop and after putting it up on the lift, he said he has never seen a frame so rusted out in his twenty five years of doing body work. I contacted Toyota and they said they would NOT repair the frame.

Possible structural frame rust. Just like every other FJ cruiser Toyota has built. I’m making this complaint in hopes that the NHTSA will force Toyota to recall FJ cruiser frames due to the amount of FJ cruisers that have the same frame rust issue.

Our 2007n Toyota FJ only has 135, 000 miles on it and runs well. We love the vehicle and have a severely rusted out frame. the truck has been adequately maintained but is now unsafe to drive. There are several large areas of rusted frame that are gone, motor mounts have fallen off the frame, the rear axle is barely hanging on because the rear frame is brittle. on the passenger side almost 3 feet of frame is gone from the underside of the vehicle. There is very little metal left to weld to making repairs not possible. Toyota Corperate refuses to assist us and we are stuck with a vehicle that is near total failure.

Rust is inherently bad on these vehicles. The other day i heard a weird noise under my truck driving down the road. As if I flung a rock up and hit a spring or something. To my dismay, I noticed the fuel tank hanging. One of the straps rusted to the point that it broke allowing the fuel tank to droop.

Serviced 99% of the time at Toyota dealer. Within a week of having the vehicle serviced by the dealer, I noticed a rattling/banging. One gas strap had completely rusted through, and the other was hanging on by about a quarter inch of material. I always ask the dealer to inspect the frame due to the history of rust problems on FJs—they have never flagged anything but I inspect it as I can myself, but have no way to lift the vehicle up thoroughly. I also have the service fluid applied by Rust Check to prevent/inhibit deterioration. On a sidebar, this summer I was traveling on the interstate when the rear-most crossmember rusted out while I was using a hitch haul to move a dresser to South Carolina.

I filled up my truck with gas. Upon driving to work I noticed a loud clank. I looked under the vehicle but it was dark and saw nothing obvious. I continued down the road and heard knocking only when braking hard. When examined in daylight, I could see that the Fuel Tank Support Strap (Rear) rusted thru and the weight of the tank/fuel caused it to shift toward and rub against the Drive Shaft. The loud clank I would hear was caused by the tank being struck by the Drive Shaft balancing weight. The more I research, the more I see others have experienced the same thing. I made it safe until I could procure parts and make the repair. I examined the area and the replaced straps. The rear strap is doomed to fail. The OEM part is painted but exposed in the left rear tire well. Basically, the strap is doomed to be sandblasted by road debris, salt, sand and plain old dirt. Photos and descriptions of others with similar problems are always in the same location. I feel Toyota should make the Straps from a better quality material not as susceptible to corrosive properties of Salt. This is a serious fuel tank issue. If there was a problem with the front strap the rear strap failure could have dropped the tank on the road. Will it take the death(s) of the occupants of affected vehicle should a fire or explosion occur for Toyota to step up and assume responsibility? Or maybe if the tank falls out of the vehicle and car that runs over it then it explodes and kills those occupants will get Toyota's attention? I have retained the failed part should it be needed at a future date for inspection, etc.

IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES SLIGHTLY BETWEEN 55-60 AND 65-70 BUT EXPERIENCES PEAK SHAKE AT ABOUT 62 EXACTLY. I am the owner of a Toyota FJ Cruiser (Year:2007), VIN: [XXX] ]) equipped with the TRD High-Performance Brake Kit, which is under recall campaign C0R / NHTSA 12E046. I recently experienced a serious safety issue involving the front TRD brake crossover tube. While driving, I suddenly noticed a soft brake pedal and significant loss of braking power. I was unable to stop the vehicle properly and nearly crashed into another car at an intersection. I had to swerve at the last moment, which could have caused a more serious accident. Upon inspection, I found that brake fluid was leaking from the crossover tube—exactly the defect described in the TRD brake recall. This failure happened without warning, and my safety and the safety of others was clearly at risk. This is unacceptable for a safety recall. I am requesting immediate investigation, assistance, and a permanent solution. Toyota must ensure this part is properly redesigned and replaced, and that no vehicle is left on the road with this faulty setup. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH WITH A TRAILER ATTACHED TO HIS VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN VEERING TO THE RIGHT DUE TO HIGH WINDS. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE FLIPPED AND ROLLED OVER MULTIPLE TIMES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. BOTH THE CONTACT AND HIS PASSENGER WERE INJURED AT THE SCENE AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. BOTH PARTIES WERE TREATED FOR A CONCUSSION AS WELL AS SEVERAL CUTS AND BRUISES ON VARIOUS PARTS OF THEIR BODIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO DAMAGES TO THE TRAILER WERE REPORTED. My recently purchased Toyota FJ Cruiser was found to have severe rust underneath the car . Nuts and bolts have rotted away with the part now held together by rust weld. New straps are holding up a dented gas tank which my mechanic thinks fell when the original straps failed. Is it a safety issue when a gas tank falls off a traveling vehicle? I don’t know what other problems may arise from this, but I have been online and there seems to be complaints of this nature all over the internet. Toyota ordered a recall on several models for this problem, but not the FJ. This many people can’t be making this stuff up. At some point it is going to lead to a death, if it hasn’t already . Have only had this vehicle 2 weeks, and I find it hard to believe Toyota can’t address this problem like it did with other models of their fleet. One lady’s pickup bed almost separated from the front of the truck. Please use whatever tools you have to see that Toyota does the right thing, and takes care of the customers who are driving their vehicles.

FJ Cruiser in Tennessee Was filling up gas tank and heard a noise under the car. I looked and noticed that the back of the gas tank was hanging down. After I got it home, I discovered that the rear fuel strap had broken due to rust. The front fuel strap was also extremely rusted and probably would have failed also

THE AMOUNT OF CORROSION AND FRAME FLAKING IS ALARMING AND POSES A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY FAMILY, OTHER DRIVERS AND MYSELF. WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY AND LESS THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR, THANKFULLY ON A REGULAR, PAVED, LOCAL ROAD WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SUSPENSION SPRING SEAT AND STABILIZER BAR ATTACHMENT POINT ON REAR AXLE SUDDENLY, UNEXPECTEDLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING JUST TORE APART AND OFF OF THE AXLE HOUSING TO WHICH IT WAS MOUNTED AND THE RESULTING SHARP AND HEAVY METAL EDGED PARTS COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF A BRAKE LINE RELEASING ALL HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID AND CAUSING THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ALL NORMAL BRAKING ABILITY. THANKFULLY NOBODY WAS INJURED, BUT THE CAR CAN'T BE DRIVEN AT ALL NOW, BECAUSE IT HAS NO BRAKES AT ALL, OTHER THAN THE MECHANICAL EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND BY USING TRANSMISSION "BRAKING." LOTS OF RUST UNDER CAR SINCE WE BOUGHT IT USED FROM DEALER IN MORRISTOWN NJ, APPARENTLY DUE TO LOW QUALITY STEEL USED IN INITIAL CONSTRUCTION AND APPARENT LACK OF ADEQUATE FACTORY ANTI-RUST TREATMENT OF FRAME AND OTHER UNDERCARRIAGE PARTS. INTERIOR AND PAINTED TOP BODY PARTS SHOW NO RUST ISSUES. HOWEVER, THE UNDERSIDE, IS FULL OF LOTS OF RUST. THIS IS APPARENTLY A WELL-KNOWN, VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA FJ MODELS. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND IT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY! I'M MAKING PLANS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND POSSIBLE REPAIRS. SEVERE SUSPENSION BRACKET RUST ON MULTIPLE REAR AND FRONT COMPONENTS. I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WHEN BRAKING BUT MY ENTIRE CAR SWAYED WHEN THE REAR LATERAL SUPPORT BAR BRACKET BROKE RIGHT OFF THE MOUNT THAT IS WELDED TO THE REAR DUE TO RUST. I THEN INSPECTED AND FOUND MULTIPLE RUST AREAS ON FRAME AND OTHER SUSPENSION BRACKETS. MAKING THIS VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM AWARE OF TOYOTA'S ONGOING DILEMMA WITH USING THIS HORRIBLE UNTREATED STEEL AND HOPE THE NHTSA ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL CORROSION THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE NEGLECT IN SAFETY BY NOT HAVING THIS STEEL TREATED ON SUCH CRITICAL COMPONENTS OF A VEHICLES FRAME. HAD THIS INCIDENT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 55 MPH OR GREATER. SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH CAN OCCUR. IF I AM NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER HAVING THIS ISSUE ON TOYOTA FJ CRUSIER VEHICLES. I HOPE THE NHTSA ENFORCES A RECAL ON THESE FRAMES AND/OR CRITICAL SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. MY VEHICLE IS 16 YEARS OLD, I PURCHASED IT FROM A DEALER WHOM RECIEVED IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WITH 57,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 10 MILES, VEHICLE ENGINE STARTED MAKING NOISE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. INSURANCE AND MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY REFUSED TO COVER ENGINE DAMAGE. VEHICLE IS ADVERTISED AS EXTREMELY DURABLE 4X4 WITH PICTURES ON WEBSITE DEMONSTRATING VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN IN ALL TYPES OF TERRAIN SUCH AS MOUNTAINS AND RIVERS. VEHICLE HAS NO COVER PROTECTING BOTTOM FRONT OF RADIATOR AND CROSSMEMBER IS NOT VERY DURABLE. VEHICLE ALSO DOES NOT HAVE A LOW COOLANT DETECTION SYSTEM IN CASE OF COOLANT LOSS. COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER ENGINE OVERHEATING IN CASES OF COOLANT LOSS SO OWNER HAD NO IDEA ENGINE WAS BEING DAMAGED. I'M WRITING TO NOTIFY YOU THAT I AM EXTREMELY UNHAPPY WITH MY SERVICE AND THAT I FEEL UNSAFE IN MY TOYOTA VEHICLE. I RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE MY FJ CRUISER TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE MY FRONT WHEEL NEARLY FELL OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WHEN I INSPECTED THE TIRE IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE WHEEL STUDS HAD BROKEN CLEAN OFF THE BODY. THE TIRE WAS BARELY HANGING ON BY A THREAD. I'D LIKE TO NOTE THAT UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, I PAID A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF EXTRA MONEY TO HAVE IT "CERTIFIED" BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE THE CERTIFICATION AND IT HAS ONLY EVER BEEN WORKED ON BY TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIANS. I NEVER HEARD ABOUT ANY ISSUES WITH WHEELS OR ABOUT WHEEL DEFECTS OR RECALLS. DURING 2019-2020 STATE INSPECTION OF 2007 FJ CRUISER WITH 78000 MILES BY DEALER WAS TOLD THAT FRAME IS SO RUSTED THAT IT PROBABLY WOULD NOT PASS THE NEXT INSPECTION. EXPLANATION GIVEN WAS THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT MAKE THEIR FRAMES AS THICK AS OTHER MAKES. THIS VEHICLE WAS USED AS A DAILY DRIVER, NOT MUCH OFF-ROAD AND NO SERIOUS OFF-ROADING. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE ABS KICKS IN AS YOU CAN FEEL THE "SCRAPING" FEELING THROUGH THE PEDAL. I was driving down the street after filling up my fuel tank. I drove approximately 1/2 mile when I heard a sound, felt a clunk and stopped immediately. My fuel tank was hanging down on the ground. I called AAA and requested a flatbed and to bring a strap. He did not bring a strap and when my truck arrived at the mechanic the fuel tank had completely separated from the vehicle. The other complaint I have is the rusted frame. I purchased this vehicle used. I did not notice that the tube before the rear axle which holds suspension supports to the frame were completely broken off and separated from the rusted out frame that has failed. It has been welding but the rusted frame is very difficult to weld to.

DUE TO THE STEEP VERTICAL ANGLE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND THE PLACEMENT OF THE DEFROSTER VENT SEVERAL INCHES BACK FROM THE WINDSHIELD, THE WINDSHIELD CANNOT BE KEPT CLEAR BY THE DEFROSTER. THE AIRSTREAM FROM THE DEFROSTER DOES NOT HIT THE LOWER 1/3 OF THE WINDSHIELD AND THE LEFT HAND DRIVER SIDE AND NO AMOUNT OF AIR EVEN AT MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE WILL KEEP THE WINDSHIELD FROM ICING OVER. THE WIPER BLADES BECOME ENCRUSTED WITH ICE AND FAIL TO KEEP THE WINDSHIELD CLEARED. IN EVEN A MODEST SNOWSTORM, VISIBILITY QUICKLY DROPS TO NEARLY ZERO. MY WIFE NEARLY WRECKED THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. IT APPEARED THE DECISION TO GO WITH A HALF DOOR ON THE VEHICLE WITH A SHORT FRAME WAS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE POOR VISIBILITY. ALSO, THE INABILITY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE BACK SEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WAS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT THE FRONT PASSENGER OPENING THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR FIRST. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED SPACE LEFT BETWEEN THE END OF THE ROOF AND THE BEGINNING OF THE REAR DOOR DRAINED SO POORLY THAT LEAVES AND OTHER NATURAL DEBRIS WOULD BUILD UP TO THE POINT THAT, WHEN IT RAINED, WATER WOULD LEAK INTO THE CARGO AREA. FRAME AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ARE VERY RUSTY TO THE POINT OF A SAFETY CONCERN. I REPLACED THE REAR BUMPER WITH AN AFTERMARKET ONE TO DISCOVER THE REAR BUMPER SUPPORT WAS SO RUSTED IT WOULDN'T BE OF ANY HELP IN THE EVENT OF BEING REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER CAR. ALSO, THE REAR BUMPER COMES STOCK WITH 2 SENSORS SO WHEN BACKING UP WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU GET CLOSE TO SOMETHING. BOTH SENSORS WERE NON-TRANSFERABLE TO THE NEW BUMPER BECAUSE THEY WERE SO RUSTED ON THE INSIDE WHEN YOU TRIED TO REMOVE THEM THEY CRUMBLED INTO BITS, A COMBINATION OF METAL AND PLASTIC. THE RUST WORKED ITS WAY UP THE WIRES AS WELL. NUMEROUS BRACKETS UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK WHICH HOLD WHAT APPEARS TO BE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO OPERATE. I HAD TO PAY FOR NEW TRANSMISSION LINES BECAUSE THE ONES ON THERE WERE SO RUSTED, IN A LUMP SUM I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR. POWER STEERING LINES WERE REPLACED ONCE AND THE POWER STEERING STILL HAS AN ISSUE HOLDING FLUID. I AM GOING TO CHOSE TODAY'S DATE AS THE DATE THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE NOW I AM AT MY WIT'S END WITH THE RUST. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO HAVE THE A/C RECHARGED TO BE TOLD ITS GOING TO BE ABOUT $2000 TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES AND THE CONDENSER THAT IS RUSTED PLUS LABOR. MY VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE WITH FAILING TO QUICKLY RETURN TO IDLE SPEED WHEN I LET OFF THE THROTTLE OR SHIFT GEARS. IT DOES THIS CONSISTENTLY AND REPEATEDLY. THE OTHER DAY IT ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. WHEN I LET OFF THE THROTTLE, THE RPMS WILL CONTINUE AT A RELATIVELY HIGH RPM OR ACTUALLY CLIMB. THEN ABRUPTLY THE THROTTLE WILL "STAIR STEP" DOWN. IN THE SITUATION WHERE IT BECAME VERY DANGEROUS. I AM CRUISING ALONG ABOUT 40-45 MPH IN A DIFFERENT AREA. I POP OVER A LITTLE RISE AND ALL I SEE ARE TAIL LIGHTS AND CARS SPINNING AND SLIDING EVERYWHERE. I EASE OFF THE THROTTLE AND LIKE USUAL, NOTHING HAPPENS IMMEDIATELY. PRECIOUS FEET ARE CHEWED BEFORE THE TRUCK EVEN BEGINS TO SLOW. INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN GRACEFULLY, THE RPM HANG ACTUALLY ACTS ALMOST LIKE A CRUISE CONTROL. AS I JUST START TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE TO ACTUALLY SLOW THE VEHICLE, THE ECU FINALLY DECIDES TO CHOP THE THROTTLE. BY CHOP I MEAN ABRUPTLY CUT OFF FUEL TO THE MOTOR. AT THIS POINT I AM NOTHING BUT GLARE ICE, GOING DOWN HILL ON AN OFF CAMBER TURN. SO INSTEAD OF A GRADUAL REDUCTION AND SMOOTH SHIFT OF WEIGHT, THE CHOPPED THROTTLE ALLOWS THE TAIL TO NOW SLIDE OUT TO THE RIGHT QUITE A BIT. I DON??T DARE TOUCH THE THROTTLE TO TRY AND FINESSE IT A BIT SINCE IT DOESN'T LISTEN TO WHAT I WANT TO DO. THE NON-LINEAR THROTTLE RESPONSE PUT ME IN A SITUATION THAT I ALMOST DIDN'T RECOVER FROM. IT WAS ALMOST AS THOUGH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN, I JAMMED ON THE REAR PARKING BRAKE TO SLIDE THE REAR AROUND. THIS WAS THE EFFECT BECAUSE I WAS GOING DOWN HILL AND TURNING SO THE REAR WHEELS WERE UN-WEIGHTED AND MORE LIKELY TO SLIDE AT THIS POINT. BY SLOWLY LETTING OFF THE THROTTLE I WAS TRYING TO NOT INDUCE ANY ABRUPT WEIGHT TRANSFER TO THE FRONT. I HAD THE RIGHT IDEA, THE ECU DIDN'T! The fj cruiser is a common issue for rot/ rust on the frame of the vehicle, I have clean the frame often during the winter months and my frame is continuously rusting and rotting the frame of the vehicle I have decided to not drive the vehicle till the frame is either replaced or repaired due to the safety concern of driving it on the road, numerous others have same incidents of the holes in the frame due to rust the manufacturer did not put any kind of corrosion treatment on the frame to stop this from happening the frame flexes when accelerating and is not safe for anyone to including my passengers or other people on the road

I recently purchased the used 2007 Toyota FJ with 101,000 miles. During maintenance and inspection, it was found that the fuel tank straps are rusted out and need to be replaced. The rear brake lines are rusted out and need to be replaced. The frame is severely rusted out and failing at the factory welds. I was referred to submit a report and investigate filing a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer for negligence, as this is apparently a known issue. I am hoping that the will reach someone that is able to help all the owners with the same issues as this should be recalled and repaired to prevent unnecessary injury or death. This is a huge financial burden for those expecting a quality vehicle that will be safe. Failing brakes, loose gas tanks and weakened frames are recipe for disaster.

Backing out of my driveway we heard a slight pop and a dragging feel on the right passengers front.( thought I ran over a landscape brick) Stopped and inspected nothing was under the vehicle starting to leave my complex vehicle started to shake some. When I got up to 20 MPH it was obvious I should not drive. Called tow truck. Thought I needed ball joints or something similar. Mechanic said frame was completely rusted out and unfixable. The Toyota FJ cruiser is suppose to be a tough off road SUV which I never used for off road driving They even advertised how tough the frame is in commercials . I see there has been recalls for other Toyota models of SUV and trucks of the same year and their is a class action lawsuit already started I think in California. If I would have continued to the freeway A serious accident would had happened. I contacted Toyota and opened a case # [XXX] which after two communications they closed because there is no recall on the vehicle. The car is in great condition other wise. A frame should last more than 15 years on a truck \SUV designed for off road driving . her are some details of the pending lawsuit: Plaintiffs allege that a manufacturing defect causes excessive rust and corrosion to the frames of 2007-2014 FJ Cruiser vehicles. The suit claims the defect weakens the structure of the vehicle, therefore posing a serious safety threat to vehicle occupants. In some cases, vehicles failed to pass safety inspection and are no longer safe to drive. As a result, owners find themselves stuck with a vehicle that is no longer legally allowed on the roads with a greatly diminished resale value. Toyota Activity Marketed the FJ Cruiser with Special “Electrocoat Deposition” Rust Protection Coating Despite Toyota’s marketing highlighting the “Electrocoat Deposition” protective coating, plaintiff’s claim FJ Cruiser frames prematurely rust and corrode at an accelerated rate. I purchased the vehicle with a clean carfax on 12/2/2021 Flew from Phoenix to Dallas to pick it up. Drove the vehicle from Dallas to Phoenix. The Brakes malfunctioned on the drive home. Fortunately it was late at night and not many vehicles on the road. Took car to mechanic on 12/4/2021. The frame, brakes, suspension, exhaust and engine mounts had been sprayed over to cover severe rust and rot of the the frame and undercarriage. The vehicle cost 14k The repairs to be done 20k The vehicle is not roadworthy and has not been driven since ai got back to Phoenix. The dealership purposely didn’t disclose the frame or brake damage. The dealership sold this vehicle knowing it was for my daughter and 3 year old granddaughter

recently purchased used from dealership. Excessive rust on lower frame and other components (transmission and power steering lines) as well as suspension. This is not a flood vehicle. Initially took it to Toyota for repairs of the lines and trans. The quote was too high, so I took it to local shops for repair. The local shops were surprised by the amount of rust. Trans was fixed but the shops refused to fix other components that attached to the frame because they fear they will cause more damage. Visited several FJ Cruiser forums and frame rust issues are incredibly common with the FJ, to the point where there are class action lawsuits. Toyota needs to step up and fix this issue for FJ owners!

Due to rust on my 2007 FJ Cruiser, I've had many unexpected expenses. I first was losing brake pressure and my brake lines had to be replaced after breaking when in a mechanic's shop. I've also replaced all four calipers, all the rusted pulleys on the engine, lower control arms that were so rusted that they had to be cut out, and hub assemblies for both front wheels. The hub assembly lead to a failed vehicle inspection for safety concerns. The exhaust pipe literally broke apart near the rear frame crossmember and was sitting on it, so had to be replaced. The exhaust manifold rusted apart and separated from the engine block, leading to dangerous fumes in the engine bay and horrible gas mileage. The O2 sensors were rusted in place and giving poor readings and had to be replaced. Turning the steering wheel became difficult and that was due to being extremely rusty, so it had to be replaced. Shifter cable and PRNDL switch had to be replaced due to not shifting into drive or lower gears. The front differential drain plug was so rusted that the dealership would not attempt to remove it. Now there are holes rusted through the body mount brackets, as well as the passenger side floor. The cargo area's floor where the charcoal EVAP canister connects to the vehicle has completely rusted through, and one of the subframe brackets rusted so badly that it was taken off by hand. Both subframe brackets need to be replaced. The rear control arm mounts are very thin due to extreme rust. My mechanic is now replacing coolant lines because they have rusted through and started to leak, and gas tank straps which were on the verge of failing.

I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AN INDIVIDUAL ON DEC. 12, 2020. LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO. I BROUGHT IT TO THE BODY SHOP TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIX THE RATTLING SOUND THAT CAME FROM WHEN I HIT A BUMP. THE CARS BODY IS IN GREAT CONDITION. THE MILEAGE WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR WAS 183,800. I ASSUMED I MAY NEED TO DO SOME WORK ON THE CAR, BUT THE BODY SHOP TOLD ME THAT THE SOUND I WAS HEARING WAS DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE THAT HAD RUSTED SO BADLY THAT THEY WHERE CLOSE TO FALLING OFF. INCLUDING THE GAS TANK. THEY TOLD ME THAT FJ CRUISERS WHERE KNOWN FOR RUSTY UNDER BOTTOMS AND THAT I WOULD BE A SAFETY RISK TO MYSELF AND OTHERS IF I DROVE THE CAR. THEY ALSO SAID THE CAR WAS BEYOND NORMAL REPAIR. I WILL ATTACHED PHOTOS THEY SENT ME. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR 1,500 MILES AND IT IS CONSIDERED UNDRIVABLE AND UNFIXABLE. I GOT A SECOND OPINION. WITHOUT KNOWING THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST OPINION THEY CAME TO THE EXACT SAME CONCLUSION. EXCEPT THEY TOLD ME TO REACH OUT TO YOU.

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED (T J TOYOTA INC, 6698 NY-56, POTSDAM, NY 13676, (315) 265-3350). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS NOT DOWN SHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR. SO WHILE STOPPED, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LUNG FORWARD AS IF HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IN FRONT OF THE CAR. THERE IS A VERY REAL POTENTIAL FOR THE CAR TO HIT A PERSON WHEN IT LUNGES FORWARD. SINCE REALIZING THIS PROBLEM, I INTENTIONALLY HOLD DOWN THE BRAKE HARDER THAN I SHOULD HAVE TOO. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION BUT I THOUGH THAT PARTICULAR ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CRACK MOVED SIGNIFICANTLY, TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT OF THE WINDSHIELD MOVING TO COVER THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO PRIOR DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD, THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN TAKEN OFF ROAD. THE CRACK SEEMS TO HAVE DEVELOPED DUE TO PRESSURE STRESS- A DEFECT FROM MANUFACTURING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER REPORTS FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE WITH SIMILAR REPORTS, OFTEN TIMES, EVEN AFTER HAVING THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED. I CAN FEEL THE TRANSMISSION GRABBING AND I HAVE TO KEEP THE BRAKE DEPRESSED TO KEEP FROM TAKING OFF. THE SURGE GENERALLY LASTS FOR LESS THAN 10 SECONDS AND THEN GOES AWAY FOR A SHORT TIME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING AND GAUGES BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE ERRATICALLY AS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AND GAUGES WOULD NOT PROVIDE A READING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND. AFTER SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. SUMMARY: THE PRIMARY SAFETY SYSTEM (BRAKES) IN MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER FAILED TWICE. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP UTILIZING TOYOTA NATIONAL RESOURCES WERE UNABLE TO ISOLATE THE PROBLEM. THE SOLUTION WAS TO COMPLETELY REPLACE BRAKE SYSTEM AND CHARGE IT TO ME. THE LACK OF AVAILABILITY OF PARTS NATIONALLY (BACKORDER) RESULTED IN A COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE REPAIR TIMEFRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF SERVICE FOR 49 DAYS AND COST $2503.99 TO REPAIR. OCTOBER 1, 2010 DRIVING IN TRAFFIC DEPRESS BRAKE. THE PEDAL GOES COMPLETELY TO FLOOR BOARD. NO INDICATION OF PROBLEMS VIA INTERIOR WARNING LIGHTS. OCTOBER 6, 2010 PROBLEM DETERMINED TO BE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. PART ORDERED (47025-35111 CYLINDER SUB-ASSEMBLY) THROUGH INTERNET SITE OF LAKELAND TOYOTA IN FLORIDA. THE COST OF THE PART IS $981.37 AND THE PART IS ON BACKORDER. ESTIMATED DELIVER IS 10/26/10. OCTOBER 26, 2010 PART ARRIVES AND IS INSTALLED. MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ARE INDICATED ON INTERIOR DISPLAY. NOVEMBER 1, 2010 TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DETERMINES THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES COMPUTER IS DEFECTIVE. NOVEMBER 4, 2010 TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REPLACES NEW MASTER CYLINDER COMPUTER WITH MY OLD COMPUTER. THE RESULT IS THE WARNING LIGHTS TURNING OFF AND INDICATES THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED. THE MECHANIC TAKE THE VEHICLE ON A TEST DRIVE ACTIVATES THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WHICH RESULTS IN AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THE SERVICE MANAGER REFUSES TO RETURN THE VEHICLE CLAIMING IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. NO WARNING LIGHTS ARE INDICATED ON THE VEHICLE. NOVEMBER 10, 2010 TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER WITHIN THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES IS FAULTY. BRAKE SOLENOID COMPONENTS ARE ALSO DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY AND A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IN THE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. TOYOTA RECOMMENDS THAT COMPLETE BRAKE ASSEMBLY (47050-35072 $1823.87) BE REPLACED. THIS IS A TOYOTA ECM COMPUTER ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION. I WAS WAITING IN MY 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER AT A TRAFFIC STOP FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE FROM RED TO GREEN. AT THIS TIME, I FELT A HARD "BUMP" AS IF ANOTHER CAR HAD REAR-ENDED MY FJ. THERE WAS THIS REAL HARD "THUMP." THE FJ HAD SHIFTED GEARS ON ITS OWN WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP. EITHER THE TRANSFER CASE DIFFERENTIAL AND/OR THE ELECTRICAL REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED UP. BOTH MY HANDS WERE ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND MY RIGHT FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AT THE TIME. THERE IS NO DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR MAT. THE FJ GOT A STRONG GRIP ON THE ROAD AND IT LURCHED FORWARD. THERE WAS A LOT OF EXTRA POWER AND A LOT MORE TRACTION THAN IN THE NORMAL "D" MODE FOR DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT. INSTINCTIVELY, I PRESSED DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE IN ORDER TO KEEP THE FJ FROM MOVING INTO THE INTERSECTION. TWO SECONDS LATER, THERE WAS ANOTHER "THUMP" AND THE FJ SHIFTED BACK INTO THE NORMAL ROAD GEAR "D." I BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED IS THAT THE ECM COMPUTER SENT A MALFUNCTIONING SIGNAL AND LOCKED UP ONE OR BOTH OF THE DIFFERENTIALS. THIS HAPPENED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON DRY PAVEMENT AND STOP WHEN THERE WAS NO DRIVER COMMAND TO SHIFT GEARS. THE SENSATION I FELT IS SIMILAR TO USING MY FJ FOR OFF-ROAD DRIVING AND SHIFTING INTO 4WD "LOW," BUT THIS WAS MUCH MORE SEVERE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE ECM COMPUTER MIGHT MALFUNCTION HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 70 MPH. IT COULD SEND A SIMILAR COMMAND TO LOCK UP EITHER THE TRANSFER CASE DIFFERENTIAL OR ELECTRIC REAR DIFFERENTIAL. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE FJ BECOMES A 5,000 LB. FLYING MISSILE, BASICALLY OUT OF CONTROL. I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STEER THE FJ OR TO NAVIGATE TURNS PROPERLY. 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. I HAVE THIS SUV SINCE SEP., 2007. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THIS SUV IS THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM, WHICH DOESN'T WORK RIGHT. I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE THROTTLE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE IS A JOKE AT BEST AND DANGEROUS AT WORST. THE VEHICLE ENGINE RPM WILL NOT GO BELOW 12-1800RPM WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING UNLESS THE SPEED IS SOMEWHERE BELOW 5MPH. THIS CAN BE VERY ANNOYING AT TIMES AND DANGEROUS AT OTHERS. DRIVING ON ICE, TOWING A TRAILER, DRIVING IN HILLY TERRAIN. THERE IS NO ENGINE BRAKING AVAILABLE AT ANY SPEED ABOVE 5MPH. WHEN THE SOFTWARE DOES FINALLY CLOSE THE THROTTLE COMPLETELY IT DOES SO ABRUPTLY CAUSING A JERKY CONDITION THAT CAN LEAD TO LOSS OF CONTROL ON ICE. AT 20MPH, FOR INSTANCE DRIVING IN A SCHOOL ZONE, THE THROTTLE CANNOT BE SET TO MAINTAIN A STEADY SPEED. THE VEHICLE ALTERNATES BETWEEN ACCELERATING AND ALMOST COMPLETE THROTTLE SHUT OFF. THERE IS NO IN BETWEEN. I HAVE SEEN THIS SAME BEHAVIOR WHEN DRIVING OFF ROAD IN STEEP TERRAIN. NOT ONLY IS IT ANNOYING BUT IT IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA TWICE AND THEY CLAIM IT IS NORMAL FOR THIS MODEL AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. THE OTHER THING THAT IT DOES IS HOLD THE LAST RPM FOR SEVERAL SECONDS WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS. NOT SO MUCH DANGEROUS AS ANNOYING AND CAUSES EXCESSIVE WEAR ON DRIVELINE COMPONENTS AND IS ALSO EXTREMELY WASTEFUL OF FUEL. *TR

ABS SYSTEM FAILURE IN 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THE ABS, VSC, AND VSC TRAC AND SKIDDING LIGHT CAME ON ON OR ABOUT MARCH 22, 2010. TOYOTA DEALER HAD TROUBLE FINDING "PROBLEM" ALBEIT THEY SAID THE VEHICLE HAD NO BRAKES OR ALMOST NO BRAKES. THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY AND IN AN UNRELATED ISSUE REPLACE ILDLER PULLEYS. PICKED UP VEHICLE THAT WAS ALLEGED REPAIRED AND DRIVEN BY TECHNICIANS TO VERIFY IT WAS REPAIRED AND BRAKES WORKED. WITHIN ABOUT 20 MILES OF DRIVING, BRAKES BECAME VERY SOFT AND CAR WAS HARD TO STOP IN A REASONABLE DISTANCE WITHOUT VEERING. CALLED DEALERSHIP FROM VEHICLE ON MARCH 27, 2010 AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN MONDAY, BUT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNITL MONDAY. I WAS TOLD JAMMING ON THE BRAKES MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SKID UNCONTROLABLE AND THAT THE ABS SYSTEM AND VSC WOULD NOT CAUSE BRAKE FAILURE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 200 MILES ON A TRIP TO SEE MY MOTHER AND FATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP IN A RELIABLE AND SAFE MANNER.

2007 TOYOTA CRUISER TRD - TIE ROD BROKE. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE. ONE TIRE WAS POINTED ONE WAY AND ONE THE OTHER. THERE WEREN'T ANY EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. SHORTLY BEFORE THE TIE ROD BROKE, STEERING FELT AS IF I WAS ON ICE FOR A FEW SHORT MOMENTS. FORTUNATELY, I WASN'T DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE TIE ROD BROKE. VEHICLE WAS UNDRIVEABLE AND TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN EDMONDS, WA. THE TIE ROD WAS REPLACED BY TOYOTA. DEALERSHIP HAD NO INFORMATION AS TO HOW IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. NO REASON WAS GIVEN. CAR WAS 2 WEEKS OUT OF WARRANTY AND DEALERSHIP WASN'T GOING TO COVER THIS SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER APPLYING SOME PRESSURE, THEY DID HANDLE THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE TOYOTA FJ CRUISER DEVELOPS BULGES IN THE ENGINE BAY OVER TIME WITH NORMAL DRIVING. THESE ARE IN THE CRUMPLE ZONES AND EVENTUALLY RIP. TOYOTA FAILS TO FIX THIS TO SPITE HAVING HUNDREDS OF DOCUMENTED CASES. MINE IS ONE OF THEM. VEHICLE: 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER, 4WD AUTOMATIC. 1. EVENTS: ABS SYSTEM FAILURE CAUSED BY UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE (POTHOLE, STEP DOWN, BUMPY ROAD) CAUSING A SINGLE WHEEL TO MOMENTARILY LOSE TRACTION DURING BRAKING. 2. THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES (BRAKE PEDAL CANNOT BE FURTHER DEPRESSED, PULSATING / CLICKING NOISE HEARD) TO STABILIZE THE ERRANT WHEEL, BUT DOES NOT PROCEED WITH STOPPING THE VEHICLE AFTERWARDS, NO MATTER HOW HARD THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ONLY WORKAROUND IS FOR THE DRIVER TO KNOW TO RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RE-APPLY IT. 3. TOYOTA INSISTS THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE ABS SYSTEM DESIGN AND THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM APART FROM APPLYING THE WORKAROUND. I BELIEVE OTHERWISE SINCE I HAVE CONTACTED ONE OTHER FJ CRUISER OWNER WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND HAD HIS MASTER CYLINDER / ACTUATOR REPLACED BY TOYOTA UNDER WARRANTY, AND THIS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH AT AN EXPENSE OF ABOUT $2,000 TO THE DEALERSHIP. I FAXED A DESCRIPTION OF THIS COMPLAINT TO RIGHT TOYOTA IN SCOTTSDALE ON JUNE 11, 2009, VISITED THE DEALERSHIP AS MY ODOMETER ROLLED OVER TO 36,000 MILES AN HOUR AFTER SENDING THE FAX, AND REGISTERED A CASE NUMBER WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER ON JUNE 12, 2009 DESCRIBING THE ISSUE AND HOW THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON JUNE 6, 2009, WHERE I WAS BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER A 3 INCH STEP DOWN IN THE PAVEMENT, AND SUDDENLY I HAD NO BRAKES, WHICH CAUSED ME TO ROLL 20 FEET BEYOND MY INTENDED STOPPING POINT, INTO THE INTERSECTION. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. RELEASING AND RE-APPLYING THE BRAKE FINALLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE, BUT NOT UNTIL IT WAS POTENTIALLY TOO LATE. *TR

REPORTED PROBLEM WITH BACKUP SONAR SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS IGNORED BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT MAKE THE VEHICLE FAIL (THE REAR END NEED TO BE IN THE SUNLIGHT OR ON A REALLY HOT DAY TO FAIL). FINALLY THE LAST TIME I TOOK IT IN IT WAS FAILING ALMOST ALL THE TIME SO AFTER FIGHTING WITH THEM FOR MONTHS IT WAS FIXED. FAIL MILEAGE WAS APPROX. 20,000, CURRENTLY HAS 32,200. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING 80 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS MOVING CONSTANTLY. HE PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM THE BACK SEATS OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 9,800.

ENGINE ACCELERATES TO 1500 RPM WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE THROTTLE WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS (UNDER 1500 RPM). THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) TO SPEED UP INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN, EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF THE "ENGINE BRAKING" THAT ONE WOULD EXPECT. I FEEL THIS PRESENTS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND / OR ICY ROAD CONDITIONS. *JB

WHILE TRAVELING A FREEWAY SPEED THE VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND DISABLED THE POWER BRAKES AND STEERING. I VERIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD 1/4 TANK OF GASOLINE AND ALL OF THE FUSES CHECKED OUT OK. CALLED TOYOTA ROADSIDE SERVICE AND THEY DISPATCHED A TOW TRUCK AND DROPPED OF VEHICLE AT THE NEAREST DEALER. *NM
