Rust! Frame completely rusted, even though the CRC was applied back in 2013.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while completing an inspection and emissions test on the vehicle, the mechanic informed the contact that there was severe rust on the rear subframe of the vehicle, near the control arm, and several other areas on the subframe. The contact stated that there were several holes on the subframe caused by the extreme rust. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 203,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA, AND IT BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE LEFT TO RIGHT WHILE BRAKING. IT ALSO STARTED MAKING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE, AND FELT AS IF THE TRUCK WAS LOOSING ACCELERATION. THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD SOMETIMES WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, AND IT IS A BAD UNSAFE FEELING WHILE DRIVING. I DRIVE THE CITY STREETS DAILY AND OCCASIONALLY USE THE FREEWAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK HAS A DEFECTIVE SKID CONTROL ECU. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL FOR CONSUMERS SEEING THAT THIS CAN CAUSE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS VERY ISSUE. I ALSO SEE THAT 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD HAVE EXTENDED TO LATER MODELS OF SEQUOIAS AS WELL. I DEFINITELY THINK A RECALL SHOULD OCCUR, AND CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF IN A DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS DEFECT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT.

I HAVE TO ADD MY VOICE TO THE CROWD. THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, AND ABS BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. LOSES POWER. TOYOTA WANTS $1500+ TO REPLACE A COMPUTER AND THEY DON'T GUARANTEE A FIX. I WAS SIMPLY PARKING MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IN PARKING LOT SPACE. LEFT FRONT TIRE FELL COMPLETELY OFF THE CAR WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS WARNING OF PENDING PROBLEMS! BALL JOINT CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED! PRIOR RECENT NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT SHOWED NO PENDING PROBLEMS. DID A CHECK AND FOUND MANY PRIOR BALL JOINT ISSUES FOR THIS CAR AND A PRIOR RECALL YEARS AGO. TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN CAPITOLA CA. THEY REPLACED BALL JOINT AND RELATED PARTS. THEY CHARGED ME LOTS OF MONEY CLAIMING THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD "PREVIOUSLY BEEN RECALLED AND REPAIRED IN 2007 SO NO LIABILITY ON THEIR PART. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND COMPLAINED AND WAS BOUNCED AROUND UNTIL A FELLOW NAMED "GARRET" TOLD ME THE BALL JOINTS HAD BEEN "FIXED" IN 2007 DURING A RECALL. GREAT. THEN WHY DO THESE ISSUES CONTINUE? MY CAR IS DRIVEN ONLY ON PUBLIC STREETS AND THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THIS IMPENDING FAILURE. THE BALL JOINT AND RELATED SIMPLY FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY. I TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF THIS VEHICLE AS I INTENDED ON KEEPING IT REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. WHAT BS IS TOYOTA PULLING WHEN THEIR SEQUOIA (AND OTHER SIMILAR TOYOTA VEHICLES) CONTINUE TO CATASTROPHICALLY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING? I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE DIED ON THE FREEWAY ETC BECAUSE OF THIS? I HAVE PERSONALLY OWNED AND/OR FAMILY, FRIENDS ETC. MANY CARS, TRUCKS ETC. BALL JOINTS LIKE BRAKES, TIRES HOSES ETC WEAR OUT SLOWLY AND GIVE AMPLE WARNING WHEN THEY NEED REPLACEMENT IE TIRE WEAR IS INCREASED, STEERING DIFFICULTY ETC. NOT IN TOYOTA'S CASE. THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL BEFORE THE WHEEL JUST FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. THESE CATASTROPHIC FAILURES OF WHEELS FALLING OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT ANY MOMENT ARE HORRIBLY DANGEROUS AND YET COMMON KNOWLEDGE INCLUDING PRIOR RECALL(S) AND YET THEY STILL ARE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE. I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF WITH NUMEROUS RECEIPTS TO PROVE IT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, I HAVE OBSERVED A 'ROT' HOLE IN THE REAR PART OF THE FRAME. THE WHOLE IN THE FRAME IS APPROXIMATELY THE SIZE OF A DOLLAR BILL AND SPREADING. THERE ARE OTHER PARTS OF THE FRAME THAT WILL NEED ATTENTION IN THE FUTURE. TOYOTA HAS RECALLED SEQUOIA MODEL YEARS 2005 AND UP AND HAVE NEGLECTED TO INCLUDE THE 2004. IT IS APPARENT THAT THE 2004 SEQUOIA IS SUBJECT TO THE SAME FAULTY FRAME MANUFACTURING AS OTHER MODELS/ YEARS OF NUMEROUS TOYOTA'S. MY VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 137,600 MILES ON IT. I HAVE MAINTAINED VEHICLES FROM FROM THE 90S THAT HAVE BETTER FRAME CONSTRUCTION THAN MY TOYOTA. I BELIEVE THAT THE FRAME ON MY 2004 SEQUOIA WILL NEED FRAME PATCHES IN THE FUTURE AS WELL AS MANY OTHER METAL COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO THE FRAME REPLACED.

OUR SITUATION IS VIRTUALLY THE SAME AS MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS IN YOUR SYSTEM. NAMELY THAT TOYOTA HAD OUR DEALER APPLY UNDERCOAT TO THE FRAME OF OUR 2004 SEQUOIA IN JULY OF 2013. ON SEPT. 5 THIS YEAR WENT TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION AND AFTER WAITING A FEW HOURS WAS INFORMED THEY DID NOT PERFORM THE SERVICE AS THE FRAME WAS SO BAD. KNOWING THAT A NEIGHBOR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND TOYOTA BOUGHT IT BACK I ASKED ABOUT IT AND WAS TOLD "THAT PROGRAM WAS OVER" THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND UPON CALLING TOYOTA USA WAS TOLD THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS ON THE NHTS WEBSITE. WHY ISN'T ANYTHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH OVER A MANHOLE, THERE WAS A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL FOLDED UNDER THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A DITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT KNEE AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V013000 (SUSPENSION). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 175,000.

I'VE BEEN DEALING FOR SEVERAL YEARS HAVING AIR-BAGS BEING REPLACED. WHEN AN APPOINTMENT IS GIVEN, I GO TO DEALERSHIP AND AM TOLD NO ONE HAS PLACED AN ORDER FOR THE PARTS.MS DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION CONTACTED ME AND SAID THEY HAVE MADE THE REQUEST FOR REPAIR AND ESTABRROOK TOYOTA OF PASCAGOULA HAS SAID THERE IS NO RECORD OF ANY CORRESPONDENCE.

TAKATA RECALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MY LOCAL TOYOTA HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS NOR CAN THEY TELL ME WHEN THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO. MY ANSWER IS ALWAYS, "THE PART IS ON BACKORDER". I WAS ALSO TOLD BY TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AS LONG AS THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THAT THERE WERE SENSORS THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW IT TO DEPLOY IF THERE WAS NO WEIGHT IN THE PASSENGER. I HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS: 1. ARE THERE SENSORS ON A 2004 MODEL 2. IS MY VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE WITH NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT 3. DOES TOYOTA IN FACT HAVE A PRIORITY SYSTEM SET UP FOR OWNERS WHO LIVE IN HIGH MOISTURE AREAS. 4. IF VEHICLES CAN BE TRADED FROM DEALERSHIP TO DEALERSHIP WHY CAN'S PARTS? I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TWICE (CASE # 1604290026) WHO PUT ME IN CONTACT WITH DEALERSHIP CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHICH SIMPLY TRANSFERRED ME BACK TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT, WHO AGAIN TOLD ME PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER, CALL BACK AGAIN. MY FIRST STEP WAS TO CALL THE TOYOTA HOT LINE FOR THE RECALL, CONFIRM DEALERSHIP HAD PART, AND SCHEDULE TO GET IT REPAIRED. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART. SIMPLY PUT, IS MY VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE I HAVE MADE EVERY EFFORT TO GET THE REPAIR ACCOMPLISHED.

TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE AROUND JUNE OR JULY OF THIS YEAR. I SCHEDULED THE REPAIR WITH OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY GAVE US THE DATE TO BRING IT IN. MY WIFE TOOK OFF FROM WORK AND TOOK THE CAR AND THEN THEY DID NOT HAVE THE REPAIR PARTS IN STOCK AND SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO RESCHEDULE. I AM OFF WORK FOR THE REST OF YEAR FOR HOLIDAYS SO THIS MORNING I CALLED TO RESCHEDULE AND NOW THEY TELL ME THEY ONLY HAVE ONE TECH WHO CAN DO THE REPAIR AND HE IS OFF UNTIL JAN 15TH. NOW IF THIS IS AN URGENT SAFETY RECALL AND NO ONE SHOULD RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, PLEASE EXPLAIN TO THE TOYOTA DEALERS WHAT URGENT SAFETY RECALL MEANS.

THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND ADVISED THAT THE SKID CONTROL UNIT WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE SKID CONTROL UNIT WAS RESET AT THE DEALER BUT DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL UNIT AND BELIEVED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY. MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW BACK IN 2004. AROUND 90,000 MILES WE HAD ISSUES WHERE THE BRAKES FAILED. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. FLUID WAS FINE AND PADS WERE FINE. DEALER SAID THE FRONT CALIPER PINS WERE FROZEN. THEY FIXED IT. BUT NOW THE BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON. NOT SURE WHY. FRONT AND REAR BRAKES ARE NEW. WORRIED ABOUT BRAKES FAILING AGAIN WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE CAR. MY WIFE VERY WORRIED AS WELL. WE OWNED A SIENNA IN THE PAST AND NOW A SEQUOIA. MAY NOT PURCHASE A TOYOTA AGAIN FOR SAFETY CONCERNS. Frame has rust issues throughout. Frame not properly treated at the factory and now I am suffering because it has virtually rusted through in front of the drivers side rear wheel which was pointed out to me at Toyota when my car was in for service.

The tail gate will not open. I had the vehicle since 2018 and it was working and now it's not working. I taken it to toyota dealership and the cost is to much for at this point. I was wondering is there anything that can be done?

THE FRAME HAS BEEN RECALLED. AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRAME WOULD NOT BE REPLACED BUT SPRAYED WITH ANTI RUST COATING INSTEAD. THE COATING PEELED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. COMPLAINTS WERE MADE BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE FRAME AT TIME OF RECALL. CURRENTLY THE FRAME IS PRACTICALLY FALLING APART. WE ARE UNABLE TO GET A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE AT THIS TIME NOR CAN WE SELL IT AS IS. WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS AT THIS TIME? THANK-YOU *DT*JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, TRACTION, AND ABS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AT VARIOUS TIMES. DURING ONE OCCURRENCE, THE VEHICLE EMITTED A GRINDING NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THAT WOULD NOT GUARANTEE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AS THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE, IT CURRENTLY HAS 155,600 MILES ON IT. I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH TOYOTA AND THIS VEHICLE UNTIL MY RECENT INCIDENTS INVOLVING INABILITY TO STOP WHILE AT SLOW SPEEDS, FOLLOWED BY A LOUD NOISE AND SHAKING AND THREE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE WHEN THIS OCCURS: BRAKE, VSC, AND TRAC CONTROL. AFTER READING THE MANY REPORTS, I REALIZE THAT THIS IS QUITE COMMON AND AM UPSET THAT TOYOTA HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT! I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT AS IT WAS SO FRIGHTENING THAT I WOULD NOT DRIVE IT. THE SENSORS WERE NO LONGER ON AND TOYOTA TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG (MY FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED BY THEM A FEW MONTHS PRIOR). IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER, THIS TIME I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND GOT THE LIGHTS TO GO OFF, THEN I DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO MY MECHANIC. HE FOUND THREE ERROR CODES ASSOCIATED WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. HE SAID IT'S EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE SO HE RESET THE SYSTEM AND WE DECIDED TO SEE IF THAT WORKS. NOW, A WEEK OR SO AFTER THE RESET, IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN IN TRAFFIC. AFTER READING ALL OF THE OTHER VERY SIMILAR REPORTS, I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE MY CAR! PLEASE MAKE TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE TO THEIR CUSTOMER'S SAFETY! I FOUND REPORTS ON THIS DATING BACK TO 2004 AND I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON THE 2003 MODELS.

THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MAUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

MY 2004 SEQUOIA FAILS TO ACCELERATE FROM A START WHEN ENTERING A TURN AT THE SAME TIME, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS FLASH ON THE DASHBOARD. IT TYPICALLY DOES THIS WHILE TURNING, MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT HAND TURN FROM A STOPPED POSITION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN MADE AN UNINTENDED 80 DEGREE LEFT TURN IN A SWIFT JERKING MOTION AND PROCEEDED TO HIT A CEMENT PIPE IN A DITCH. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE WAS KNOCKED OFF THE VEHICLE. BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AT THE TIME. THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER AWOKE AND THE CRASH WAS STILL OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO PICK UP SPEEDS; HOWEVER THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE THE EXACT SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS ON THREE WHEELS AND CONTINUED TO PROCEED. THE PASSENGER WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS A SECOND TIME. THE PASSENGER AWOKE TO SOMEONE FLASHING LIGHT INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BROKEN TIBIA, SEVEN BROKEN RIBS, FRACTURED STERNUM AND A FRACTURED VERTEBRAE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION, BRUISED FACE AND A SMALL LEFT HAND FRACTURE. BOTH WERE TAKEN TO A NEARBY HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 84,199.

ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS DURING LOW SPEED LEFT TURNS MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS SHUTTERED AND STRUGGLED TO STAY ON THE ROAD, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND BEEPS, AND BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES. VEHICLE ALSO SHUTTERS WHEN BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS. I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC TO REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER, BECAUSE OF TOYOTA'S HIGH PRICE TO REPLACE. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUE WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER AND SUGGESTED IT WAS AN ISSUE CALL A "LOW SPEED DROP" AND WAS PROBABLY RELATED TO THE ABS SYSTEM OR TRAC CONTROL. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND ASKED WHAT TYPE OF DIAGNOSTICS WERE PERFORMED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HOOK UP A COMPUTER WHICH PRODUCED A CODE RELATED TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE COMPUTER GAVE THEM THEMASTER CYLINDER CODE AND DID NOT OFFER TO REINSPECT VEHICLE TO DETERMINE ACTUAL CAUSE. *TR

MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS EXPERIENCING VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL ISSUES THAT I BELIEVE POSE A SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO MY FAMILIES SAFETY. MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE AT 10 MILES PER HOUR. I WAS LOOKING TO MAKE A TURN AT THE LIGHT AND MY VEHICLE GAVE ME A HUGE JERK AND THE BRAKES BEGIN TO GIVE OUT. AFTER THE BRAKE FAILURE THE VS AND BRAKES LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE POSTING THIS PROBLEM WITH THERE VEHICLE. I AM LOOKING FOR HELP SINCE MY CHILDREN DRIVE MY VEHICLE SOMETIMES. HELP!!! I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF IT'S REPUTATION. HOWEVER, AFTER SEEING ALL THE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE AND TOYOTA REFUSAL TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, MY FAMILY WILL BE LOOKING ELSE WHERE.

I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN 2008 WITH APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES ON IT. SHORTLY AFTER I GOT IT, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE NO NOTICEABLE REASON. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THROUGHOUT THE TIME I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON PERIODICALLY. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT A FEW TIMES AND THEY ALWAYS SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I BROUGHT IT IN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS AIR IN THE LINE, WHICH THEY FIXED. AFTER THAT TIME MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE FALSE ALARMS THAT I HAD ALWAYS GOTTEN. THEN LAST NIGHT (9/15/2014) I HAD THE PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN WITH THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN I WAS TRYING TO STOP FOR A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP UNTIL I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PUT IT BACK ON. NOW THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS A LEAK IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. ONE OF MY FEARS FROM ALL THESE YEARS OF THE BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON FOR NO REAL REASON WAS THAT ONE DAY IT WOULD COME ON FOR A VALID REASON AND I WOULDN'T KNOW BECAUSE OF ALL THE PREVIOUS FALSE ALARM LIGHTS. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE ABRUPT AND UNEXPECTEDLY STOP, THE BRAKES APPEAR TO REMAINED ENGAGED (VEHICLE IS STOPPED) MOMENTARILY (FOR A FEW SECONDS); ALTHOUGH, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NO LONGER DEPRESSED. IN ORDER TO GET THE SUV MOVING FORWARD AGAIN, ONE MUST PRESS THE GAS PEDAL (MORE THAN USUAL), BECAUSE THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO HESITATE OR BE STUCK/STOPPED. BECAUSE OF THE UNUSUALLY HIGH GAS PEDAL REQUIREMENT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY/DANGEROUSLY LUNGES FORWARD. THIS HOLE UNEXPECTED, ABRUPT STOPPING AND ABRUPT RAPID FORWARD PROCESS IS QUITE UNSETTLING AND SCARY. SEQUOIA VSC TRAC SENSOR LIGHTS TURNING ON AND OFF. THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS TOYOTA SEQUOIA FROM 2003 - 2005. THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2003 MODEL BUT NOT 2004. 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 WITH 4WD WITH ABOUT 113,000 MILES. WE STARTED OUT ON OUR FIRST ROAD TRIP SATURDAY AND WERE HAVING NO ISSUES UNTIL WE STOPPED TO GET GAS AN HOUR AND A HALF INTO THE TRIP. AFTER GETTING GAS WE GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. ONCE WE SPED UP TO ABOUT 70MPH THE VCS LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN ON ITS OWN FROM 70 TO ABOUT 45. WE WOULD TRY TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WITH THE GAS PEDDLE WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING, BUT IT DIDN'T HELP. ONCE THE SPEED DROPPED TO ABOUT 45 THE GAS PEDDLE WOULD RESPOND AND WE COULD SPEED BACK UP TO ABOUT 70 OR 80. THEN THE CYCLE WOULD START ALL OVER AGAIN. OVER THE COURSE OF A 13 HOUR ROAD TRIP THIS HAPPENED OFF AND ON ABOUT HALF OF THE TRIP. WHILE THE CAR SLOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN, PRESSING THE GAS PEDDLE EITHER DOESN'T DO ANYTHING OR AT TIMES IT JUST REVS THE RPM'S WITHOUT INCREASING SPEED. WE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS TO GET THIS PROBLEM TO STOP. WE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO TRY TO RESET THE COMPUTER BUT THAT DID NOT WORK. WE ALSO TRIED TO PUT IT INTO 4WD AND TAKE IT OUT AND IT SEEMED THAT SOMETIMES HELPED AND AT OTHER TIMES IT DIDN'T. SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WILL FLICKER AND DOESN'T SEEM TO REALLY AFFECT THE ACCELERATION AS MUCH. OTHER TIMES IT WILL REALLY ACT UP AND WE HAVE TO PUT ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND FINALLY GET OFF THE HIGHWAY TO TRY SOMETHING OUT OF DESPERATION. ALL OF THIS HAPPENS ON DRY, SMOOTH HIGHWAYS. THIS APPEARS TO BE EXCEPTIONALLY COMMON. THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF AND ABS AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON, THE BRAKES ARE DEGRADED AND THE FRONT END VIBRATES AS THE BRAKES APPEAR TO BE PULSING. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES OVER THE YEARS. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT IT WAS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WE HAD THE TIGHTENED, SINCE IT SEEMED THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING LOOSE AND IT WAS ENGAGING AS WE DROVE. THAT WASN'T IT, OBVIOUSLY AND IT CONTINUES TO OCCUR. WITH SUCH A HEAVY, LARGE CAR, WE HAVE NEARLY REAR-ENDED OTHERS, BUT GOT LUCKY. EACH TIME THE CAR PULLS TO ONE SIDE SHARPLY AND YOU HAVE TO STOP AND RESTART THE CAR TO GET ALL THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF AND COME BACK TO NORMAL. WHILE DECELERATING TOWARDS AN INTERSECTION THAT I HAD TO STOP AT VSC DASH INDICATOR LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, & TRAC LIGHT ALL CAME ON. THEN, AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL I HEARD DEEP CRUNCHING NOISES FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM (SOUNDED LIKE FRONT END). THERE WAS ALSO LOUD "CLANKING" NOISES, AS IF SOMETHING WAS BANGING AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE RIM OR BRAKE ROTOR. ALL THE NOISES WERE ALSO PHYSICALLY FELT ON MY BRAKING FOOT AT THE SAME TIME THEY SOUNDED. MY FOOT WAS BEING DROPPED AND PUSHED NOTICEABLY BY THE BRAKE PEDAL. I ALMOST REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE BRAKING POWER FROM FLUCTUATING INDEPENDENTLY FROM STRONG TO ALMOST NONE WITHIN A MATTER OF A FEW SECONDS. THE SAME DASH WARNING LIGHTS HAVE BEEN CONTINUING TO TURN ON FOR THE LAST 5 OR 6 WEEKS (SOMETIMES ALL OF THEM, SOMETIMES ONE AT A TIME), BUT THE PHYSICAL BRAKING ISSUE HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN TODAY 9-11-13. I WAS ON A BACK STREET SO I TRIED TO VIDEO IT WITH MY PHONE BUT COULDN'T GET THE CAMERA SET TO VIDEO IN TIME; AND IT STOPPED AFTER OCCURRING AT THREE DIFFERENT BRAKING ATTEMPTS. VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, ABS LIGHTS HAVE BEEN COMING ON AND OFF SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2004. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS OVER THE YEARS. LAST WEEK LIGHTS CAME ON AND STAYED ON FULL TIME. ABS SYSTEM SEVERELY SHOOK WHEN BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. DEALERSHIP REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM. COST WAS $1,200. WARNING LIGHTS STILL WERE PRESENT, AND THEY WERE RELUCTANT TO LET ME LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE PROBLEM STILL PRESENT. THEY DECIDED THAT THE BOOSTER WAS AN "AFTER-MARKET" PRODUCT AND NOT PROPERLY COMMUNICATING WITH THE COMPUTER. DEALERSHIP WANTS ANOTHER $600 TO SWAP THE BRAKE BOOSTER, BUT STILL NO ASSURANCES THAT THE WARNING LIGHTS WILL NOT COME BACK ON. THIS HAS BEEN PROBLEMATIC SINCE THE DAY I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH 139K MILES. THIS SUV HAD A FRAME RECALL IN 2014, TOYOTA DEALER APPLIED THE PAINT/EPOXY TO THE RUSTED FRAME INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE RUSTED FRAME. THE PAINT PEELED OFF WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF THE APPLICATION. NOW THE FRAME IS RUSTED VERY BADLY. WHEN DRIVING IT MAKES GRINDING NOISES. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT BECAUSE OF EXTENSIVE FRAME RUST, THE FRAME HAS GOTTEN WEAKER AND IS SLIGHTLY BENT. THIS MAKES THE MOVING PARTS TOUCH THE OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY/FRAME RESULTING IN THE NOISES. FRAME IS RUSTING UNDERNEAYH TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE HAD TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE CONTROL ARM WHICH RUSTED OFF AND BROKE WHILE DRIVING. MY TOW HITCH MOUNT HAS RUSTED OFF. THERE ARE MORE THAN 5 SPOTS ALONG THE FRAME WHERE RUST HAS PERFORATED AND THE FRAME HAS VISIBLE SIGNS OF ROT. I HAD A LICENSED GARAGE INSPECT THE FRAME AND WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS AND THAT THE FRAME SHOULD BE REPLACED. I AM HAVING CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS RUSTING OUT.

*FILED WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL OF NEW YORK* RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THE 2004 SEQUOIA DUE TO CORROSION. ON JULY 25, 2013 WE BROUGHT OUR CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO APPLY A PROTECTIVE COAT AND WAITED A WEEK FOR THE CAR TO BE RETURNED TO US. WE HAD TO RETURN THE VEHICLE, SEPTEMBER, 2014, TO THE DEALER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, THE SPRAY WAS FLAKING OFF EXPOSING THE RUST UNDERNEATH. THE VEHICLE WAS SPRAYED FOR THE SECOND TIME IN ONE DAY AND THAT TIME WE WERE TOLD THE VEHICLE'S REAR AXLE TRAILING ARM MOUNT WAS ALMOST SEPARATED FROM THE REAR AXLE HOUSING DUE TO THE CORROSION AND IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE AXLE. AT THAT TIME WE ASKED IF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN TO THE RECALL OF THE CORROSION, FLAT OUT WE WERE TOLD NO. WE THEN PROCEED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO OUR PERSONAL MECHANIC FOR SECOND OPINION, OCTOBER 27, 2014, AND HE CONFIRMED THE AXLE IS DAMAGE AND THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS IN SUCH POOR CONDITION THAT IT MUST BE FIRST ADDRESSED BEFORE REPLACING THE AXLE; HE ALSO MENTIONED TO US THIS IS THE SECOND SEQUOIA THAT HE HAD SEEN WITH THE SAME ISSUE, ALONG HE TOLD US THE SECOND SPRAYING WAS DONE INCORRECTLY, IT WAS NOT CLEANED OUT THEY JUST SPRAYED OVER THE FLAKING PROTECTIVE COAT AND THE RUST. OUR MECHANIC SAID THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE USED BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE AND HE IS WILLING TO SIGN AN AFFIDAVIT IF NECESSARY.

WE HAD A VOLUNTARY RECALL ON OUR SEQUOIA, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WILKESBORO NC AND THEY TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THE TOYOTA AND SAID WE WOULD BE SAFE DRIVING IT IN MARCH OF 2014. THAT WAS WRONG ON MAY 18TH THE SWAY BAR RIPPED FROM THE FRAME CAUSING TOYOTA TO HAVE TO COME GET IT ON A ROLL BACK AND I HAVE BEEN STUCK IN A SMALL CAR WITH THREE KIDS 13, 8, & 3 SINCE THAT DATE. I PERSONALLY DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR EITHER AS OF COURSE THEY SENT ME IN IT. I WOULD LIKE FOR TOYOTA TO SEND OUT A APOLOGY TO OTHERS AS WELL AS MYSELF FOR SENDING VEHICLES OUT WITH A FRAME THAT WOULDN'T LAST. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL BUT THE DEALER WAS CHARGING FOR PARTS BECAUSE THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PART COULD HAVE FRACTURED DURING THE REMEDY REPAIR. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AND SHE HAD NOTICED A BANG OR THUMP COMING FROM THE CAR. SHE HAD NOTICED PRIOR THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT HAD COME SPORADICALLY. I HAVE A 2004 SEQUOIA AT ABOUT 62000 MILES AND HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS LIGHTS. IT COMES ON AND OFF WITHIN THE LAST 15000 MILES. IT WOULD TURNED OFF WHEN I RESTART THE ENGINE. RECENTLY I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND SKID CONTROL ECU. TOTAL ESTIMATED COST WAS ABOUT $2500. THIS WAS ALMOST AN ACCIDENT, I WAS LUCKY NOT TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT. WE BOUGHT IT IN 2014 WITH 76K AND THE FRAME HAD RECENTLY BEEN COATED. SUPPOSEDLY IT WAS FROM TEXAS, AND WE LIVE IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA. THE FRAME LOOKED GOOD AND SEEMED SOLID, BUT WITHIN A YEAR OR TWO ALL OF THE COATING FELL OFF REVEALING VERY RUSTY METAL. BY 3 YEARS (2017) THERE WERE HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME MAINLY BEHIND THE FRONT TIRES AREA, AND THE REST OF THE FRAME IS ALSO QUITE RUSTY. I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT SWAY BAR END LINKS BUT THEY BROKE SOON AFTER AND KEPT BREAKING WITHIN A FEW MONTHS AFTER REPEATED REPLACEMENT DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRAME MOVEMENT. IT FEELS LESS SAFE WITHOUT A FUNCTIONAL SWAY BAR ATTACHED TO THE FRAME AND HAS MORE BODY ROLL WITH MORE RISK OF ROLLOVER. THE FRAME IS ROTTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT, AND THE RUST IS SPREADING LIKE CANCER IN THE SURROUNDING AREAS UNDERNEATH. THE BODY HAS ALMOST NO RUST AT ALL. I PARKED IT IN THE WINTERS TWICE NOW, HOPING TO BUY TIME. BUT I'M COUNTING THE DAYS THAT IT WILL BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ANYMORE. I'M NOT EVEN SURE WHEN TO DETERMINE WHEN THAT WILL BE, AND AM HOPING IT DOESN'T HAVE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS LIKE OTHERS HAVE HAD WITH THE EARLIER SEQUOIAS. I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY WIFE AND PAID $16000 CASH FOR IT. WE'VE PUT ON 60K MILES BUT EXPECTED TO GET MANY MORE YEARS OUT OF IT BEING THAT IT IS SO SOLID AND RELIABLE OTHERWISE. THIS FRAME IS HORRIBLE, AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE SHOWN ITSELF A PROBLEM SOONER, HAD IT NOT BEEN IN TEXAS MOST OF ITS PREVIOUS YEARS. IT IS WRONG THAT THE 01-04 YEARS ARE EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL THAT ONLY COVERED THE 05-08 MODELS, WHEN IT IS OBVIOUS THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTED THEN AS WELL BASED ON SO MANY SIMILAR REPORTS. TOYOTA GOT MONEY FROM THE FRAME MAKERS AND US CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE SEVERELY PREMATURELY RUSTING FRAMES, THAT WILL BE TAKING 10 OR MORE YEARS OFF THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE OTHERWISE. PLEASE ADDRESS AND TAKE THIS PROBLEM SERIOUSLY.

THE CONTACT HAD THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PERFORMED ON THE FRAME IN 2014. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.

TOOK MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA FOR SERVICE AT IRA TOYOTA OF DANVERS MASSACHUSETTS ON 9/13/2012. WAS NOTIFIED THAT A RECALL REGARDING FRAME RUST WAS ALSO AVAILABLE AND THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE INSPECTED. NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL AND THEY INFORMED ME IN PERSON WHILE AT SERVICE THAT THEY WILL COAT THE FRAME IN CRC COMPOUND. NEVER EVEN SAID IF IT WAS BAD ENOUGH (WHICH THE PHOTOS SHOW) THAT THEY WILL REPLACE THE FRAME. THEY DID REPLACE THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER DUE TO RUST. A FEW YEARS PRIOR TO 2012, PAYED 950$ AT A LOCAL BODY SHOP TO HAVE THE VEHICLE COATED IN AN ANTI RUST PROTECTION, STILL DID NOT HELP. HAVE HAD A HUGE ISSUE WITH RUST DEVELOPMENT SINCE BUYING THE CAR BRAND NEW FROM IRA TOYOTA OF DANVERS IN 2004. SINCE THE CRC WAS DONE, IT HAS CHIPPED AWAY, RUST IS STILL VERY PREVALENT ON FRAME/ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. HAVE LOST MY FRONT SKID PLATE WHILE TRAVELING DUE TO RUST, EXHAUST, CATALYTIC CONVERTER, MULTIPLE O2 SENSORS, HEAT SHIELD, BACKING PLATE, FRONT CALIPER, REAR GATE HINGES, ETC. OPENED UP A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE. SAID THAT THEY CAN DO NOTHING AND THE CRC ISN'T NECESSARILY GOING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, ALL OTHER ISSUES MUST BE DEALT WITH DIRECTLY BY THE OWNER. ON 8/4/08, THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE ADDED ELEMENT OF A LOUD NOISE AND THE BRAKES ENGAGING IN A VERY ABRUPT MANNER. THIS SPONTANEOUS BRAKING COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A REAR END OR ROLL OVER SITUATION SHOULD THE WRONG CONDITIONS EXIST. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER. The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The contact stated that the check brakes and a traction control warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent at first but had become a recurring failure. When Toyota issued a recall for the braking issue, the contact did not receive notices, so the contact called them and was told it was a few selected 2004 Toyota Sequoia recalled for those who had complained but, it was not broadcasted like that. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, but the vehicle was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 07E023000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

WAS DRIVING MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA AT 35-40MPHIN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD BANG, A DROP IN THE FRONT LEFT OF THE TRUCK AND THE SOUND OF METAL SCRAPPING THE PAVEMENT. I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND HIT THE BRAKES TO AVOID GOING OVER THE MEDIAN INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. I THEN SKIDDED ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND HIT A CAR TRYING TO ENTER THE PARKWAY. AN EYEWITNESS SAID HE SAW THE WHEEL COME DISLODGED FOR NO REASON. LUCKILY THE LADY WHO WAS IN THE OTHER CAR ONLY HAD MINOR INJURIES AND OTHER THAN A SO FAR MINOR CASE OF WHIP LASH EVERYONE IS OK. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE WITH THE POLICE OFFICER IT LOOKED AS IF THE WHEEL AND AXLE WERE RIPPED FRON THE TRUCK. THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO WAY TO CLOSE THE DOOR ONCE OPENED. THE WIFE HAD TO DRIVE TO DEALERSHIP WITH DOOR STUCK WIDE OPEN IN THE DARK. THIS WAS NOT SAFE FOR VARIOUS REASONS... THE LIFTGATE HANDLE BROKE AND WAS REPLACED WITH AN ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PLASTIC PART. ACCORDING TO OTHER'S COMPLAINTS, I EXPECT IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN VERY SOON. THEN THE HANDLE STOPPED OPENING THE LIFTGATE ALTOGETHER. I FINALLY GOT THE GATE OPEN AND REPLACED THE PULL CABLE BUT IT DID NO GOOD. ONCE WHILE DRIVING, THE GATE OPENED BY ITSELF AND LIFTED UP WHEN I WENT OVER A SMALL BUMP. PROBLEM WITH ECU UNIT, VSC TRAC AND TRAC OFF LIGHT COMING ON IN VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WERE RECENTLY CHANGED AND IT IS NOW MAKING A SCREECHING NOISE. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AND TOOK IT TO TOYOTA FOR SOME OTHER RECALL THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ECU UNIT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. TOOK 2004 SEQUOIA TO KINGS TOYOTA FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL AS WELL AS DIAGNOSTIC EVAL OF VSC ABS LIGHTS ISSUE. RECEIVED A PHONE CALL THAT THE TECH COULD NOT DETERMINE THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM UNLESS WE PAID AN ADDITIONAL $360 FOR MORE TIME TO DIAGNOSE AND THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH WITH LARGE HOLES. WONDERED IF WE WANTED TO PURSUE THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE LARGER SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FRAME. ORIGINAL ISSUE OCCURRED WITH LIGHTS COMING ON (HAD HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES PREVIOUSLY) FOLLOWED BY THE POWER WINDOWS CEASING TO WORK, SEVERAL HOURS LATER THE WIPERS AND WINDOW SEEMED SLUGGISH AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. HAD TO JUMP THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND THEN WHEN JUMPING NO LONGER WORKED, WE HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE INTO A CHURCH PARKING LOT. AFTER BEING TOLD BY MR. HOWARD THAT THEY DON'T SEE VEHICLES COME INTO SERVICE WITH LARGE HOLES IN THE FRAME, I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT 10S OF THOUSANDS OF TOYOTA TRUCKS, INCLUDING 05-08 SEQUOIAS, HAVE BEEN RECALLED - CRC APPLIED AND FRAMES REPLACED AS WELL AS TOYOTA BUYING BACK 95-00 TRUCKS WITH RUSTED FRAMES FOR 1.5 TIMES THE BLUE BOOK VALUE. 04 SEQUOIAS MENTIONED MORE THAN 300 TIMES FOR THE VSC, TAILGATE AND RUSTED FRAME ISSUES THAT ARE PREVALENT IN THIS MODEL - MY VEHICLE HAS ALL 3. SPOKE WITH COLIN, THE SERVICE MANAGER, WHO REITERATED WHAT I FOUND ONLINE. TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING SINCE THE RECALL IS CLOSED AND DID NOT INCLUDE THE 04 MODELS.

AT ON OR ABOUT 7:30 PM ON MAY13TH 2018 OUR SON WAS DRIVING THE FAMILIES 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA NORTHBOUND IN 2 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY AND NO OTHER TRAFFIC PRESENT. WEATHER WAS INCLEMENT, VISIBILITY CLEAR BUT NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY FOR FLORIDA. HE WAS TRAVELING 41 MPH IN A 45 IN THE LEFT LANE. NO SOONER THAN HE WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROLLED, (HE HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY) DID HE GO THROUGH WHAT THE DEPUTY SAID WAS A SLIPPERY SECTION OF THE ROAD WAY COVERED WITH STANDING WATER. HE RELEASED PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR TO DIMINISH HYDROPLANING AND NO SOONER THAN THAT INSTANT THE VSC LIGHTS (VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL) LIGHTS ILLUMINATED IN THE DASH. HE REPORTED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP AND CREATED A PIVOT POINT FOR THE CAR TO SPIN AROUND 180 DEGREES CLOCKWISE, NOW FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS HE WAS NOW IN THE RIGHT LANE. HE WAS FRANTICALLY ATTEMPTING TO REGAIN CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE BY CONSTANTLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLES MOTION HOWEVER UNSUCCESSFUL AS HE WAS PRESSING ON THE BRAKING PEDAL WITH NO RESPONSE, THE CAR NOW STILL IN MOTION, HIT THE CURB, AND LEFT THE ROADWAY BY GOING NOW BACKWARDS DOWN A STEEP EMBANKMENT OF OVER 12 FEET AND CAME TO A HALT. LUCKILY, A SHERIFFS DEPUTY WAS TRAVELING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND HAD WITNESSED THIS AND WAS ABLE TO SAVE MY SONS LIFE BY HIS QUICK RESPONSE. THE CAR HAD TO BE EXTRACTED OUT OF THE CULVERT WITH RECOVERY CRANES. OUR FAMILY IS SO GRATEFUL TO THE DEPUTY AND THAT WE HAVE OUR SON ALIVE AND WITHOUT A SCRATCH. HE IS A BIT WORN FOR WEAR BEING SHOOK UP LIKE THAT. THE SEQUOIA HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY TOYOTA AND WE ENJOYED YEARS OF TROUBLE-FREE OWNERSHIP UNTIL THIS INCIDENT.

AFTER GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND PARKING, I FOUND IT HARD TO MOVE STEERING WHEEL AND THE CAR BEGAN MAKING LOUD NOISE. WE WERE TOLD THE LIGHTS WERE ON BECAUSE OF A CHARCOAL CANISTER THAT NEEDED REPLACING. WE REPLACED THE CANISTER ON AUG. 8, 2007 (58,184 MI.) AT A COST OF APPROX. $425. WE BELIEVE THIS COST SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE EMISSION SYSTEM'S WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER SAID 'NO' AND WE RELUCTANTLY PAID IT. ON A TRIP TO CA, THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE QUIT WORKING. WE WENT TO A TOYOTA DEALER IN VICTORVILLE, CA ON DEC.3, 2007 (66,587 MI.) WE WERE TOLD THE OIL PRESSURE WAS FINE BUT THE 'COMBO METER' NEEDED REPLACING AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $900. WE DECLINED THE SERVICE. AT SOME POINT AFTER THAT, THE VSC OFF AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. ON APRIL 1, 2009 (87,456 MI.) I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VEHICLE. I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHT INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT COMPLETELY DISENGAGED. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHECKED. THE BRAKE WAS OFF. I STARTED MY CAR AND THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS STILL ILLUMINATED BUT IT EVENTUALLY TURNED OFF SO I ASSUMED THAT MY EMERGENCY BRAKE MAY HAVE BEEN SLIGHTLY ENGAGED WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THESE CODES INDICATED THAT THE ABS SKID CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED WHICH CAUSED MY ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM TO COMPLETELY STOP WORKING. I HAD A NEW ABS SKID CONTROL COMPUTER INSTALLED AT A COST OF $1,035.00. THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE OCCURRED WITH ONLY 39,500 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. I WENT ON LINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL 2003, 2004 AND 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VEHICLES THAT HAD TO HAVE THE ABS SYSTEM REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE BRAKE WAS ENGAGED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND EXHIBITED A LOUD NOISE BEFORE STALLING. THE TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC, LOCATING THE FAILURE AT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, THE ECU, ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND THE ABS CONTROL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,761.

PROBLEM WITH ECU UNIT, VSC TRAC AND TRAC OFF LIGHT COMING ON IN VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WERE RECENTLY CHANGED AND IT IS NOW MAKING A SCREECHING NOISE. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AND TOOK IT TO TOYOTA FOR SOME OTHER RECALL THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ECU UNIT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE ECU UNIT IS NOW ON RECALL BUT THEY ARE RESTRICTING IT TO ONLY 2003 MODEL. I HAVE A 2004 & IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM THE 2003 HAS. I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL THE MONEY THEY HAD TO PAY OUT WITH OTHER DEFECTS BUT I FEEL IF THERE IS A PROBLEM THEN THEY SHOULD OWN UP TO IT AND FIX IT. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I DON'T REPLACE THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER, MY BREAK SYSTEM CAN FAIL AND CONSEQUENTLY LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT SOUNDED LIKE A MAJOR DEFECT AND EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND I WAS PUFFERED AS TO WHY THERE WASN'T ANY RECALL ON SUCH PROBLEM. I REPORTED THIS DIRECTLY TO TOYOTA SINCE THIS IS HAZARDOUS AND IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED WITH MANY OF THE 2003 SEQUOIAS WHICH RESULTED IN A RECALL BEING ISSUED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND ALL LIGHTS WENT OUT AND BRAKE FEEL AND EFFECTIVENESS APPEARS OK. I TOOK THE CAR STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON AND WHEN I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. FOR 2 YEARS MY LOCAL DEALER IN BUTLER, PA COULD NOT GET A FAILURE CODE. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR FOR DIAGNOSTICS, THE CAUSE WAS THE ECM PART NUMBER 89541-OC062 AT A COST OF ABOUT $1377.00. THEY REPLACED IT AT THE GREAT DEALERSHIP IN LANGHORNE,PA. I HAVE 55,659 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. SINCE THE REPAIR THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON ONE TIME AND STAYED ON, WHEN WE RESTARTED THE CAR IT WENT AWAY. I WILL RETURN TO DEALER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED AGAIN NEXT TIME IT COMES ON. ON JULY 6TH AT APPROXIMATELY 2:00 IN THE AFTERNOON MY SON AND I WENT TO PULL OUR BOAT OUT OF THE WATER WITH OUR 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA.(WE BACKED THE TRAILER INTO THE WATER AND LOADED OUR BOAT ONTO THE TRAILER AS WE ALWAYS DO. WE THEN SECURED THE BOAT TO THE TRAILER AND PROCEEDED TO PULL THE TRUCK AND LOADED TRAILER UP THE HILL ABOUT 30 FEET AND PARKED ON THE BOAT LAUNCH RAMP. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND LEFT THE SEQUOIA IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH, IN PARK, WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER, WE HEARD A REPEATED CLICKING SOUND AND THE BOAT AND TRAILER CAME ROLLING BACK DOWN THE LAUNCH RAMP INTO THE WATER NARROWLY MISSING MY SON AND I. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE TRUCK AND TRAILER WAS THE FACT THAT THE BOAT TRAILER JACKKNIFED AGAINST THE LEFT REAR BUMPER OF THE TRUCK. THE REGIONAL INSPECTOR, JIM TEELY FINALLY INSPECTED THE SEQUOIA ON JULY 15TH. ACCORDING TO JIM TEELY, WHOM I HAVE SPOKEN WITH ON THE TELEPHONE, THE INSPECTION FOUND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE INSPECTION THAT WAS DONE WAS CURSORY AT BEST. UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN PHYSICALLY EXAMINED BY TOYOTA I AM NOT COMFORTABLE TOWING MY BOAT AND ESPECIALLY NOT PARKING THE SEQUOIA (TOWING OR NOT) ON AN INCLINE. I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. I TOOK IT IN FOR NEW TIRES,WITH BALANCING AND AN ALIGNMENT. THEY ALSO DID BRAKE WORK ON THE FRONT. IT NEEDED CALIPER PINS AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. IT HAD 47,481 MILES ON IT. WHEN MY WIFE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL) SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM NEVER ONCE BEFORE MALFUNCTIONED UNTIL AFTER THE SERVICE AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE DEALER MESSED SOMETHING UP. THEY CLAIM THEY DID NOTHING TO CAUSE IT. WE TALKED THE HEAD MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP. THE MANAGER DENIED THAT IT COULD BE IN ANY WAY THEIR FAULT. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE SERVICE CAUSED THE FAILURE? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TOYOTA HAS THEIR MECHANICS DO BUT SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO A FULL INVESTIGATION. THE VEHICLE NOW IS A HAZARD TO DRIVE. I CURRENTLY CAN'T AFFORD THE $1500 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER. COULD IT BE RELATED TO THE KIND OF TIRES PUT ON OR DUST OR METAL IN THE SENSORS? FAILURE CODES ARE C0210 (RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL MALFUNCTION, C1223 (ABS CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION) , AND C1310 (ACTIVE BOOSTER SOLENOID). THE SEQUOIA'S VSC LIGHT COMES ON OFTEN AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN THE PEDAL IS PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ABOUT 2 BAD ACCIDENTS. THEY ALSO USE A DIFFERENT SKID CONTROL COMPUTER IN NEWER MODELS. WE NEED A RECALL. I HAVE SEEN MANY REFERENCES TO THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM. FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR DRIVERS PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL. I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA AND THE VSC LIGHT RECENTLY CAME ON. THE DEALER IS STATING THAT THE VSC COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST. THEY EXPLAINED THAT IT IS COMMON ON THE SEQUOIA, BUT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. THE COST IS 1500 + THE DANGER IS LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DURING BRAKE MALFUNCTION. I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATS THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE, BUT 2 TIMES I HAVE LOST ABILITY TO USE BRAKES. ITS NOT UNTIL I RESTART THE CAR THAT THE BRAKES WORK AGAIN. DANGEROUS, VERY DANGEROUS. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS ALL OVER THE INTERNET WITH THIS TRUCK, ITS TIME FOR A RECALL. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BUCKLING THE CHILD IN THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT, THE HARNESS BUCKLE LOCATED BETWEEN THE CHILD'S LEGS DETACHED FROM THE SEAT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED AND THE WRONG REPLACEMENT PART WAS SENT TO THE CONTACT. THE SEAT WAS A COSCO SUMMIT MANUFACTURED DECEMBER 31, 2005.

CAR HAD HAD ALL APPLICABLE SERVICES AND MAINTENANCE. OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO HIGH MILEAGE. NO PROBLEMS PRIOR. NOTICED NOISE IN FRONT SUSPENSION OF CAR. WHILE DRIVING IN CENTER LANE OF FREEWAY ON THE WAY TO THE MECHANIC, BALL JOINTS FAILED AND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL BUCKLED UNDER THE CAR. MIRACULOUSLY, WE WERE ABLE TO GET CAR OFF OF FREEWAY WITH NO INJURY OR DAMAGE. UNDERSTAND THERE IS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL OF 775,000 VEHICLES INCLUDING SEQUOIA'S OF OUR YEAR FOR THIS PROBLEM. WE CALLED TOYOTA WHO REFUSED TO PAY FOR OUR REPAIRS TWICE BASED ON THE VIN NUMBER OF OUR VEHICLE. WE APPEALED THROUGH OUR DEALER AND WERE REFUSED AGAIN BY TOYOTA. TODAY, OUR MECHANIC INFORMED US THAT HE HAD TWO MORE SEQUOIAS WITH FRONT NOISE THAT HE REFERRED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS. BOTH CARS HAD THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIPS FREE. MEANWHILE, WE HAD TO PAY MORE THAN $2,000 FOR REPAIRS AND HAVE RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM TOYOTA. IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED FOR 775,000 OTHER VEHICLES INCLUDING OUR MAKE AND MODEL, SURELY OUR PROBLEM SHOULD BE INCLUDED. *JB

WE HAVE HAD 2 REAR END COLLISIONS IN OUR 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IN LESS THAN 10 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A REAR END COLLISION IN 12 YEARS OF DRIVING OTHER MODEL SUVS, AND 20+ YEARS OF DRIVING ALL TYPES OF VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SAFETY DESIGN FLAW IN THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS OF THE SEQUOIA. THE LARGE RED LIGHTS ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE OF THE TAILGATE DO NOT FUNCTION AS BRAKE LIGHTS. THEY ONLY LIGHT UP WHEN THE HEADLAMPS ARE ILLUMINATED. THEREFORE, THE LARGEST RED LIGHT SURFACE AREA ON THE BACK OF THE CAR DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I BELIEVE THIS LEADS DRIVERS TO MISS THE FACT THAT THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN APPLIED. THE ONLY DRIVER EYE-LEVEL BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON THE SIDE PANELS AND THE HIGH-MOUNT LIGHT OVER THE TAILGATE, WHICH IS FAIRLY SMALL. THE PROPORTIONAL SIZE OF THE SIDE EYE-LEVEL BRAKE LIGHTS IS SIGNIFICANTLY SMALLER THAN THE RED LENSES ON THE TAILGATE. WE REQUEST THAT NHTSA LOOK INTO THIS MATTER, BECAUSE THE DESIGN DEFIES COMMON SENSE AND WE BELIEVE HAS LED TO TWO REAR-END COLLISIONS IN LESS THAN A YEAR. WE ARE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING SELLING THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE THAT IT IS SAFE FOR MY FAMILY.

WHEN I WAS GOING UP A HILL / DIRT ROAD IN 4WHEEL HIGH, AT THE MIDWAY POINT UP, THE ENGINE LOST POWER, I HAD THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. IT FELT LIKE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED AUTOMATICALLY. I PUT THE GEARSHIFT IN PARK AND NEUTRAL PUT GEAR IN 4 LOW AND 4 HIGH WITH AND WITHOUT CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED AND UNLOCKED WITH NO RESULTS, VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE UPHILL.*AK I THEN HAD TO REVERSE DOWN TO A LEVEL AREA, WHICH WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS THERE WAS NO ROOM TO TURN AROUND, AFTER REACHING A MORE LEVEL AREA, I TURN OFF ENGINE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND WHEN I RESTARTED I WAS ABLE TO GO DOWNHILL AND LEFT EARLY FROM MY TRIP AS I DONT WANT TO BE IN THIS KIND OF DANGEROUS SITUATION AGAIN. ALSO MY AIR CONDITIONER IS PUTTING OUT STRONG PUNGENT SMELLS. I TRIED TO CLEAR THE AIR BY PUTTING LEVER IN FRESH AIR MODE AS SUGGESTED BY YOUR TECH, BUT INTERMITTENTLY THE SMELL
